2 images

Dear Christian,

If you can, please review these 2 images below:

What I find annoying with M.O. is that the image description is sometimes wrong. The copyright owner called it "Xerocomus bubalinus" but when I was about to upload a third image, I found it was already uploaded on Wikicommons under the correct title of Category:Hortiboletus bubalinus So, I ordered a rename of these 2 images from Xerocomus to Hortiboletus. This is the right species since the author is given as Oolbekk. & Duin in the category.

As an aside, if you wish, you can upload this quality image to Commons. but its right name is actually "Boletus rhodoxanthus" since most of the mushrooms in this category: Category:Rubroboletus rhodoxanthus are called by this Boletus name. I found a separate image here in this category: File:2015-06-21 Rubroboletus rhodoxanthus (Krombh.) Kuan Zhao et Zhu L. Yang 530218.jpg which was not renamed Boletus rhodoxanthus.

Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:17, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

Other M.O. members like R. Halling are hostile to wikipedia today but strangely he agreed to license this single image nelow as CC BY SA for me (his E-mail address is on his personal website in NY)

But when I asked if he would license a second image with the same license, he cut off all contact with me and All his other pictures are CC BY NC SA 3.0. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 10:20, 1 March 2018 (UTC)

it's done, I uploaded File:Rubroboletus rhodoxanthus (578794).jpg, I kept the name Rubroboletus because the wikipedia article says that Boletus is the former name but not the current name. Christian Ferrer (talk) 13:03, 1 March 2018 (UTC)
No I found him again, its Alan Rockefeller who is very likely User:Alan Rockefeller currently active here. He seems to have many very good images in MO but apparently with NC licenses. I did not try to contact him because I did not want to bother him. Christian Ferrer (talk) 05:26, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

A Rockefeller

Yes I know about A. Rockefeller's account. Unfortunately, sometimes he link his pictures to his M.O. photos which have a NC restriction which causes some of them to face DR's. As an Aside, someone came back to Wikicommons and created all the categories I mentioned on his talkpage. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:45, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

If you can, please review these 10 images below:

They come from this broad Category but most of these species don't exist on Commons--so they have no specific category. Thiotrix would know how to categorise them I guess. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:23, 2 March 2018 (UTC)

Dear Christian,

If you can, please review these 10 images of Isaria here. When I upload images from M.O., I usually upload images that Wikicommons has little or no images of and Isaria is quite rare on Wikicommons. I will be uploading fewer images from M.O. by the end of mid-March 2018 since I have to work.

Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:42, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

It seems that you deleted File:Genesis Logo.png, the logo for the Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps of Austin, Texas because of a claimed Copyright violation. I would be interested to know who claimed said violation existed, since the version displayed was uploaded by the corps staff (read: uploaded by the copyright holder...). GWFrog (talk) 22:51, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

First, to be eligible for hosting on Wikimedia Commons, all files and other content, included logos, must fall within the Commons scope.

Secondly, logos and trademarks are accepted in Wikimedia Commons only if

  1. they are in public domain (help) for a specific reason; or
  2. they are freely licensed by their owner, in such case please include a web link; or
  3. they are below the threshold of originality; or
  4. the copyright holder sends directly a permission to OTRS, where you can read how to do it. Note that even if it is you who are the copyright holder, you must send this permission.

Note also that the permissions system (OTRS) is run by volunteers and there is a queue, if your image has been deleted, and you have sent a permission (before or after deletion), do not re-upload again the erased image yourself, it's forbidden. If the permission is valid and the image meets the criteria of our project scope, then it will be automatically restored.

If the logo does not fit in the categories above, you may upload the file directly into Wikipedia under the "fair use rationale". But I'm not a specialist, you'll have to ask there. You can read en:Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline. Christian Ferrer (talk) 05:27, 5 March 2018 (UTC)

Merci, Cordialement,

Christophe Andréani — Preceding unsigned comment added by Christjeudi10 (talk • contribs) 09:05, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

Pint of Science

Hi Christian, I recently updated the Pint of Science wiki page with our new logo (AI-POS-2016-Logo-simplified.png), which was very similar to our previous logo that I added in 2016. However I have received a notification that it has been removed due to a copyright violation. I am the comms manager at Pint of Science, updating the logo as per request from the founders of Pint of Science, having been told that the correct option was CC license attribution 4. Could you please let me know the reason for removing the new logo was so that I can make amends and upload again? Thank you, Sarah 7th March 2018 --S.Hoey (talk) 22:48, 7 March 2018 (UTC)

In case you upload here content that have been already published elsewhere, our policies requires that the first publication, made by the legitimate copyright holder, be explicitly freely licensed, or that the copyright holder send a permission to OTRS. Even if it is you the copyright holder. Complex logos are subject to the same procedure, you can read this. Christian Ferrer (talk) 12:15, 13 March 2018 (UTC)

My Final 19 images..Now 20 images

Dear Christian,

I am stopping mass upload from M. after today. Here are my last batch of images.

One point: M.O. has a PD license which is CC0 when I clicked on the license there but the M.O. uploader tool does not allow uploads with images that have this license. (only CC BY 3.0) So, the US Forest Service has images on M.O. with a PD (ie. CC0) license and the only way to upload them right now is manually by hand--like I did for this one yesterday--which you marked...although that was from a private account. I hope that you can review the images above. Thank You for your time and your help. Secondly, I uploaded the last image because it was judged a quality image and the other photos in its Category were few and much lower resolution. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 23:02, 13 March 2018 (UTC)

  •  Comment: The M.O. tool occasionally refuses to allow me to automatically upload this image which is CC0 PD. So, I manually had to do it by hand here since Commons has no examples of this Alpova species. The image is below.
  • File:Alpova olivaceotinctus 229141.jpg
  • Altogether I uploaded 832 images from M.O. since December 25, 2017...and this is sufficient. This Federal US site on M.O. is a good site for free images on M.O. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 23:07, 13 March 2018 (UTC)
  • ✓ Done good images, thanks for the link. When using the MO tool we have to remove the header because it is also added by the upload form, I do it at the begining, it is more easy than to do it once it is uploaded. It's likely because the tool have been written before that the upload form add also it. If I find the time I will try to contact a user with the ability to fix that. Christian Ferrer (talk) 06:00, 14 March 2018 (UTC)
  • Thank You Christian. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 06:09, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

Helen Brown (Author) page edits and image

Hi Christian, Very new to Wikipedia and must admit it is extremely overwhelming at the moment. I looked to change the image in the profile that was originally posted, however as it was marked for deletion I am not sure what to do next. The photo that was deleted is a true photo of Helen Brown (Author). I fixed some grammar and then added a bit a short sentence about the book Cleo in the Personal life section and am concerned that any change / update made will impact the integrity of the Helen Brown (Author) page.

Is there a link you can send me where I can send information about requested updates to the trusted Contributors who can at their discretion implement the changes - images and content? — Preceding unsigned comment added by HelenBrownAuthor (talk • contribs) 03:03, 17 March 2018 (UTC)

  • Hi, the image was deleted because it have been previously published on the web, and this publication was not explicitly freely licensed. Read our policies com:Licensing and com:scope in order to understand what kind of content you can upload in Wikimedia Commons. In summary if you want to upload here a photo taken from the web, then this photo must have an explicitly free license, or the copyright holder, usually the photographer, must send a permission to OTRS. Many thanks

Dear Mr.Ferrer

Thank you for your letter and feedback! As you can see in my user profile, I am a newbie on Wikipedia and Wikimedia. I am practising on editing and uploading documents into my Wikipedia article at the moment. At first, I thought that if I had uploaded a printed screen photo from an official website, it would have belonged to me. However, Now I realized after your consideration that it must have been created by myself. From now on, I decide to use all uploading documents and pictures which I own.

Once again many thanks for your detailed feedback!

Dear Christian,

There are suddenly....mostly good or great images below. I hope you have the time to mark them all. Most of them come from the Marasmius category which is partly out of date since it is missing several species here. So I had to enter their last names in this category.

After today, I will definitely stop...as I uploaded about 928 or 929 images from M.O. From December 25 until today...but this Category says there 8589 images from M.O. here. So, I uploaded slightly more than 10% in less than 3 months. I just picked the best photos of the Marasmius lot. Kind Regards Christian, --Leoboudv (talk) 07:06, 20 March 2018 (UTC)

request

I'm writing to you because you're a sysop on commons. Can you please PLEASE take care of this report in "Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Vandalism"? I opened the same request in "Commons:Administrators' noticeboard" (Other) but it's been ignored for so long by sysops that a bot archieved it and the vandal I'd reported has waited for that to restart editing. I'm waiting for your intervention, thank you in advance! 2A01:7C8:AAAE:2B3:49DF:8C78:3C94:3FB 08:39, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

I'm afraid I can do nothing, I have no knowledge of Italian and any decision/action from me will not be made in a sufficiently informed way. And I'm not able to determine if there is indeed vandalism and even less if there is cross-wiki vandalism. You should try to find, as interlocutors, users who speak Italian. Christian Ferrer (talk) 12:55, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for your kind answer! Well, this isn't in first place a "language" issue, it's about a user (blocked permanently in it.wikipedia and lately anonymising himself as an IP) who made a massive renaming of categories and files that had always had one name (which corresponds to the name used in every single wiki project) without asking anyone and without consensus. About the linguistic issue, you don't have to know Italian language, Wikipedians aren't experts redacting the encyclopedy with their knowledge but volunteers reporting what primary sources report, so you just have to look at what sources say about this issue: the municipal site of Cirié is the Sito istituzionale della Città di Cirié, while the official statute is the Statuto del Comune di Cirié. But if you don't fee like dealing with this issue anyway, I won't insist.
2A01:7C8:AAAE:2B3:49DF:8C78:3C94:3FB 13:05, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
Indeed I'll pass, category naming is not in my usual field of action, and even less categories that concerns names in languages I do not know. If the correct name is the one you say then experimented users with Italian knowledge will eventually end up correcting that. And if you can not wait then look for these users. Anyway that is not me, sorry. Christian Ferrer (talk) 18:36, 21 March 2018 (UTC)
Okay, I'll look for other users, thank you anyway!

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Hello Christian,

Thank you for your contact and prompt attention to the images uploaded. Sincere apologies if I am doing something I shouldn't. I will try to explain as best I can the purpose for these images. I am currently composing a biographical article about Dr. Gerald Murray, who is a karate master, entrepreneur, a talent manager and talent agent, based in Muscle Shoals, Alabama. The article will soon be published on Wikipedia, and this will be my first time contributing an article.

The images in question are suppose to accompany the article. They were initially uploaded to use in the sandbox for adjusting the placement of gallery images within the layout of the article. All images were given to me by Dr. Murray himself, to include his book cover. Dr. Murray gave his permission to upload to WikiMedia, his personal images, certificates of achievement, newspaper articles and other items, for myself and others to freely use. The last file in the image list above named, (Dr Gerald Murray.jpg), is the profile image for the infobox, necessary to the article. Any help or suggestions as to how to proceed will be sincerely appreciated.

With kind regards, Mediaman770 (talk) 22:05, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

  • Hello Mediaman770, the copyright of diplomas are usually owned by the remitants and not by the graduates. A photo of a diploma is a derivative work of this diploma and the copyright holder of the diploma has some rights on the photo showing his work. It is the same thing for the photos showing articles, or showing other photos; They are also derivative works, and in order to keep this kind of images we need the permissions from the various copyright holders of the depicted artworks. This can be done by mails sends by them to our permission system. Christian Ferrer (talk) 05:38, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Deletion notice of "building of wisdom city"

Hello Christian Ferrer, I already received your notice and appreciated that your information on that.I agree the deletion if the file doest not abide by the copyright policy of wikipedia or its sister programmes. However, may I know where did you check the source of the file? I just want to make sure I won't make such mistake next time. If there is somewhere or some reference I can learn from about the definition of free files or if there are some wiki tools can check out that. Thanks very much and sorry for the mistake as I am new and not completely know the rules or guides as you did.

Best regards, Kylielai (talk) 03:59, 22 March 2018 (UTC)

Hello Kylielai, the image were deleted because it can be found in many places in the web. In such cases our policies requires that a link to a legitimate source with an explicit free license has to be given, or that the copyright holder of the image send a permission to our permission system. I noticed you tagged my Rangemaster rifle image for deletion. The thing is,the image itself is in the public domain, thus not requiring permission from a particular person. — Preceding unsigned comment added by MORNINGSIDE (talk • contribs) 07:13, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

  • Why is it in public domain? this is a photo of a rifle, and the photo is protected by copyright law. Only the copyright holder of this photo, usually it's the photographer, can give a free license for his photo. Christian Ferrer (talk) 11:51, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Flamant rose bagué

Bonjour !

Christian Ferrer (talk) 21:08, 23 March 2018 (UTC)

Dear Christian,

I don't like breaking my word on not uploading any more images from M.O. but I encountered the same situation as before. FAT UNASAM ESCUDO Logo 2015.png

This logo was made by me and it was submited as a free content that can be used by anyone, for any purpose

it can be found in www.fatunasam.com from www.unasam.edu.pe in Huaraz, Peru.

I will appreciate to be restored, please.

I indeed see the logo at http://fatunasam.com/ , in summary in order to restore the logo an officer of the Facultad de Administración y Turismo must send a permission to our permission system, or an explicit free license must be added into the website. Dear Christian,

If you have time, please help review these 12 quality images.

As an aside, If you are brave enough to upload This image please feel free to do so. Unfortunately, you would have to categorise it as Category:Hymenotorrendiella clelandii since the Hymenotorrendiella category doesn't even exist on Wikicommons. But the M.O. contributor knows what he is doing and MycoBank proves it exists under this current name. Thiotrix would know what to do but for me this species is a puzzle. That is what is good about M.O.--there are so many species which exist there which aren't even mentioned on Wikicommons.

Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:25, 31 March 2018 (UTC)

14 images

Dear Christian,

If you have time this Easter Sunday, please help review these 13 images below.

As an aside, I had a target of 10-14 images...and I have reached that target as I intend to stop by April 1 or 2 my uploads from M.O. BUT if you have time, consider uploading This image And This image for Wikicommons....as Wikicommons has few examples of such species.

L. Popich and Niekirk are from S. Africa...unlike most M.O. contributors who live in North America. Their images are high resolution too. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:03, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

A tip on M.O. best images

Dear Christian,

This is just a tip for finding a contributor's best images. On M.O. there is this list of Contributors

  • Say you click on No.21 for Pastorino and you get this page Pastorino.
  • Next click on the Images link and you get this page.
  • Finally click on Image Quality and you get this large page where this person's top images are ranked usually in the top 1 to 10 pages.

You can repeat the process on other Contributors too but A. Rockefeller, D. Newman , G. Koller, O & A Ceska, D. Deshazer D. Smith , A. Khitsun, M. Lizevey are Not Free. The other problem is most contributors live in N. America. So, this person is different since he is in Australia. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 19:50, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

  • Thanks you, I already noticed those links, except the user list. Thanks you for that, I will take a look at the user from Australia. Christian Ferrer (talk) 19:57, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
  • No problem. I had checked the best images of Popich and Niekirk from S. Africa...but NOT Pastorino's account at all. So you can check there if you wish too. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 22:40, 1 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Just to note, I never checked Pastorino's account for quality photos. Since he has MANY top images, his list could be from the top 1 to 15 or 18 pages. As an example, on page 9 of his best images if you check, there is an image of an Usnea intermedia (301181). Well no one ever uploaded it to Commons....and yet it is very highly rated. Secondly, on page 12 if you cheque there is a photo of a Stereum ochraceoflavum (604475). Well MycoBank names this species under this 'current name' but it Does Not exist on Commons. I could go on and on but this contributor is a quality contributor. I just retired from M.O. but I tell you many categories for species on Wikicommons are out of date. That is why I do a second check on MycoBank. Hopefully someone will have time to check this person's quality photos. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 01:45, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
  • PS: On page 11 this contributor has a highly rated image of a Ramaria_araiospora (821823). Commons already has a category Ramaria_araiospora but there are few images in it. If there were 20 or more photos, I wouldn't bother uploading the image. But since there are few images and this is a high quality and high resolution photo, you might consider uploading it. Cheers, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:14, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
  • Thanks you, I will follow you advice and will checks Pastorino's account. I already uploaded the Ramaria_araiospora image. Christian Ferrer (talk) 08:39, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

A few images suggestions

Dear Christian,

If you have time, I could offer a few suggestions of needed images for Commons from Dodd's M.O. account.

These 2 images: http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/625627?q=IUUP & http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/625625?obs=241516&q=IUUP may be needed since there is only 1 other image in Common's Mycena_clarkeana Category

Secondly, this quality image: http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/843093?q=IUUP may be needed since Commons has only 5 images of a Clavulinopsis_sulcata

Fourthly these 2 quality images are probably necessary for Commons here: http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/625627?q=IUUP & http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/625625?obs=241516&q=IUUP since there is only 1 other image in its Common's Category

Finally, my last suggestion is this http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/565526?q=IUUP or this http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/580305?q=IUWv or http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/30123?q=IUWv image may be important because there is only 1 other image in Common’s Category here and it is low resolution.

help restore

good morning administrator Christian Ferrer, I'm writing to ask you if you could do me a favor of restoring some files that have been blocked by June and since then I have not managed to get a spider out of the hole, even though I know about the administrators on facebook; so my request is this you could restore the files you find at this link: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Log/L%C3%BBgn%C3%BBg the caricatures are mainly portraits of European cardinals and noblemen and paintings by the most famous painters in the world. --82.50.35.201 08:53, 7 April 2018 (UTC)

  • Good morning, no sorry, this is too much work for me to check if the works are indeed in the public domain, I'm not specialist. Furthermore I usually, if not always, only restore files that I myself deleted, in the case that I made a mistake or that the permission for the file has been provided. Deleted screenshot

Hello! Excuse me, if I made something that is not permitted by the rules of the Wikimedia Commons. I just uploaded my first file in the Wikipedia (the screenshot of the site page, which is public). Firstly I mixed up the type of the license, but then I pointed the author (the company that developes that site). Could you explain me what is the reason that you deleted my upload? There are a lot of screenshots of public pages in the Wikipedia. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vladok99 (talk • contribs) 07:25, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

As you can see, the screenshot is the main page of the service. This accident is like someone uploaded the screenshot of the main page of Wikipedia's site and it was deleted because "it is not free". I repeat, excuse me, because I have not much experience, that picture was my first file in the Wikipedia. Maybe you are right. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vladok99 (talk • contribs) 20:09, 9 April 2018 (UTC)

I restored the image, because it seems we already have similar screenshots from mail.ru, see Category:Mail.ru services because they give a free license. However maybe someone will think that there are derivative work issues, indeed the license may apply to the material owned by mail.re however the small thumbnails of images that we see may not be covered by this license. Christian Ferrer (talk) 04:56, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

  •  Comment: Please fail the 2 PD images as they are licensed as PDM and not CC0. I did not know this until someone filed a DR. On second thoughts Never Mind...as Majora has marked them but if it wasn't for her I would not know that M.O. had PDM images on its site. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:27, 10 April 2018 (UTC)

File:Thiombaye1.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation.

Hi. Regarding the above, this is my first time in creating an article and to be truthful, I'm finding it quite difficult and learning as I go along. However, I am contacting you regarding the 'possible copyright violation' regarding the image I uploaded. The image was the album cover relating to the first cassette i refer to in the article 'Rimbax' and I have permission from the owner Thio Mbaye to use this. Is it possible to reinstate it please? I look forward to hearing from you. Best wishes, J9M — Preceding unsigned comment added by J9M (talk • contribs) 18:51, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

  • Hello, the visual of an album cover is protected by the copyright law. A publication here includes the acceptance to publish under licenses with specific conditions, read com:Licensing. In order to upload, or to reinstate, this kind of content the actual copyright holder must send a permission by mail to our permission system. Note that for an album cover the copyright holder is likely the company that published the album. Christian Ferrer (talk) 19:07, 12 April 2018 (UTC)

  •  Oppose This image has (or these images have) appeared on the Internet without a free license prior to being uploaded here (or appear(s) to have based on the small size and lack of EXIF metadata), and was (or were) thus deleted by an Administrator. Policy requires that the actual copyright holder, which is almost always the photographer or image designer, must send a free license directly using VRTS. Also, please note that it is a serious violation of Commons rules to upload an image a second time after deletion as you did here. It wastes your time and that of other Commons editors. If you do it again, you may be blocked from editing on Commons.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 04:10, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

Logos and trademarks are accepted in Wikimedia Commons only if

  1. they are in public domain (help) for a specific reason; or
  2. they are freely licensed by their owner, in such case please include a web link; or
  3. they are below the threshold of originality; or
  4. the copyright holder sends directly a permission to OTRS, where you can read how to do it. Note that even if it is you who are the copyright holder, you must send this permission.

You give this link " https://antoniolirio.blogspot.pe/2018/03/logotipo-de-la-facultad-de.html ", that have indeed a CC BY 4.0 however the issue is that we can accept a license coming only from the copyright holder http://fatunasam.com/ thefore an acceptable permission/license can only come from this web site, and not from your personal blog, or an officer of the Facultad de Administración y Turismo must send a permission to OTRS, where you can read how to do so.

Another solution for you is, if the logo met the criteria, to upload it directly in Wikipedia for fair use, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Logos Christian Ferrer (talk) 06:35, 14 April 2018 (UTC)

This Person (Walt S)

Dear Christian,

If you have time, you should check the account above which has 12000 images. WS has a quality images of an Mitrula elegans here: http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/740600?q=JKam which does not appear in this category:

I also saw another quality image of this species here...if you wish to upload it but it is by another person: http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/741107?q=JKbV

In short, I checked on Commons and there is 249 images from WS's acount here. Some of his quality images are already on Commons. But since WS has so many images, it is worth it to check his account like Pastorino's for any more good images. I uploaded a few images from WS's account in the past...but it was nothing systematic at all.

This is another possible good image for this category: Category:Baeospora myosura

OR this Set of Aureoboletus innixus which is missing from Category:Aureoboletus

Deletion requests on Japanese logos

Hi, thank you for your work on DRs. it seems to me that your closure of these two might be premature, seeing that the logos were on the borderline: Commons:Deletion requests/File:Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z logo.svg and Commons:Deletion requests/File:Dragon Ball Super logo.svg. The overall discussion was rather short and we could use stronger arguments from both side. (You might have thought it was clear cut, but if you take into account that File:Cup_Noodles.jpg's logo was not copyrightable by the judgment of the Supreme Court, I hope you will understand their treatment should be more nuanced.)

You cited COM:TOO#Japan (which I wrote, by the way) - since it comes from the wording of legal precedents in Japan, I don't think we should rely on our own judgment solely on how we interpret the (English) words 'artistic appreciation'. I think we should look at what were and were not considered as such by the court. Would you perhaps changing your closure to one vote of yours and reopen the cases? I'd suggest elaborating your comment after that - I'd like to elaborate my own, if I may. Thanks for your consideration! --whym (talk) 07:53, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

  • Hi, thank you for having share your concerns.

Regarding File:Demashita! Powerpuff Girls Z logo.svg, that can be seen there [1] for the non admin watchers, I disagree to change my closure. If I would have find it "not nominated for deletion" I would have very likely speedy deleted it as it is obvious to me that there is a will and an artistic result.

Regarding File:Dragon Ball Super logo.svg, it's indeed a bit more questionable. I'm a bit busy, just 30 minutes break this lunch today, but I will think about the question. I promise to keep you informed as soon as possible. Christian Ferrer (talk) 11:45, 19 April 2018 (UTC)

Do you have some time to review these 18 images please?

The truth is many of these images are good images but no one uploaded them to Commons from M.O (until I did today sadly). I checked the Category:Parasola category and P. lactea, P. schroeteri, P. miser and P. hercules are totally missing ut the images are of these species are freely licensed in M.O. There is no schroeteri or Mycenella lasiosperma either. Finally, there was only one single image of Tricholoma ustaloides on Commons here: Category:Tricholoma ustaloides. So, I uploaded two more in case of an emergency. I hope you can review them. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:15, 22 April 2018 (UTC)

6 images & a Question

Dear Christian,

Could you review these 6 images below please?

Secondly, am I correct in guessing that I probably cannot upload this image from A. Rockefeller's account: http://mushroomobserver.org/image/show_image/9941?q=JzkG since the image was actually taken by farmer88--as it says in the observation page. The picture says Copyright farmer88. Just curious. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 09:30, 23 April 2018 (UTC)

Cordialement, --Poudou99 (talk) 16:29, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
Bien cordialement, --Poudou99 (talk) 20:25, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
Poudou99, il vient d'etre bloqué indéfiniment, voir Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/ThomasClerc. Christian Ferrer (talk) 20:28, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

Getting images correctly approved and un-deleted

Christian,

First, my apologies for my confusion of this process. I haven't uploaded images to wikipedia in quite a while and much has changed and become much more complex from what I remember. You had first mentioned that my file: File:Paul Akers speaker.jpg didn't have the correct license.

I tried to fix that with a new completely open license for the following three pictures. Then they too were deleted.

File:2 Second Lean - Paul A. Akers.jpg File:Akers-ironman-680x450.jpg File:Paul A. Akers headshot.jpg

I had spoken directly with the owners of the content and they gave me full permission to use it and license it myself... though it doesn't look like I jumped through the hoops correctly and these were also deleted.

I followed links and read several articles on the topic that quite confusingly contradict each other. I'm really looking for the most simple and efficient way to rectify this.

Is this article accurate and what I'm supposed to do. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Declaration_of_consent_for_all_enquiries

It too is a very convoluted process... but if that's what's required to reinstate these pictures (and add future pictures) I will jump through those hoops. I just want to be sure I honor your time and mine by doing it right the first time from here on out.

Thank you so much!

Sincerely,

Greg

PS: This is the article that made it seem really simple to get permission to use images. Perhaps it could use more clarity: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Finding_images_tutorial — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hookandpan (talk • contribs) 17:29, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

  • Hello, first Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons are two different things with different policies. The links that you gave above regards the functioning of Wikipedia and I'm not a connoisseur. Here, in Wikimedia Commons, the relevant policy is com:Licensing where you can read among others : "Wikimedia Commons only accepts media that are explicitly freely licensed, or that are in the public domain in at least the United States and in the source country of the work." That include the acceptance of a publication of the media files under specific conditions, this acceptance can only come from the copyright holder of the media file. Example if you take a photo of a cat, you are the copyright holder of this photo and that is you, and only you, who can say "I publish it in Wikimedia Commons". Therefore when someone upload the content of which he is not the copyright holder we requires an evidence of the copyright holder acceptance. This evidence can be a publication explicitly freely licensed, in that case you must include a link to the web page that contains the media file. If a free license is not available in the web site then, as evidence, we need a direct permission by mail from the copyright holder to our permission system, where you can read how to do it. You must not re-upload the content that has been deleted. Hope this help. Christian Ferrer (talk) 18:54, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

Ibrahimiyya.jpg

Hi, I have uploaded a logo file by name ibrahimiyya.jpg and you have deleted it for copyright violation. I don't see any copyright violation with that file can you please point out where exactly it violated Wikipedia's copyright policies. Wasifwasif (talk) 23:32, 26 April 2018 (UTC)

  1. they are in public domain (help) for a specific reason; or
  2. they are freely licensed by their owner, in such case please include a web link; or
  3. they are below the threshold of originality; or
  4. the copyright holder sends directly a permission to OTRS, where you can read how to do it.

Dear Christian,

Please take your time to review this large batch of images.

Some are new Cortinarius species which I asked Thiotrix here to categorize. He is happy and does a good job in categorizing them....but I have to find and upload the images. I have marked your Podaxis images which I missed earlier. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:35, 27 April 2018 (UTC)

Thank You for your help. But the image below was missed.

29 Final images

Dear Christian,

I checked through the Cortinarius category--mostly for images of species that don't exist on Commons. A few are better images for existing categories. This is the final time I will ask you to mark so many images. So, please take your time to review them. I calculate I have uploaded 1457 images from M.O. and that is enough for me.

Thanks for all your help. Soon, Thiotrix here can rest also. Now, I will have to review images on Commons. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 02:05, 30 April 2018 (UTC)

No problem, I remain at your disposal. Christian Ferrer (talk) 20:19, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
