I have received your note

- - - - - - - - - - -

Hello Christian Ferrer this is PhotographerNina I have received your note. I think there must be a mistake since I did not receive any instructions, the file was just deleted due to a "possible" copyright infringement, I left a note here letting you know that the photo was taken by myself at a red carpet, which is a public event, so I own the photo and I am authorized to give the rights to wikipedia. I work red carpets and I have colleagues of mine that have uploaded their red carpet photos on wikipedia before. Did you want me to email you? what instructions are you referring to? I am happy to do the steps necessary, just let me know please. Also please note the article does not have any images at the moment so the article is missing a photo, and I have one, I think is a good addition to wikipedia. Let me know and thank you very much for your review. Nina Prommer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Photographernina (talk • contribs) 17:49, 01 September 2016 (UTC)

5 deleted photos of ukrainian opera singer

Dear sir,

06:30, 3 May 2016 (UTC) you are deleted 5 photos https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:%D0%92%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%B8%D0%BB%D1%8C_%D0%9F%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%B8%D1%87,_%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B0%D1%82%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%B9_%D0%BE%D0%BF%D0%B5%D1%80%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%B9_%D1%81%D0%BF%D1%96%D0%B2%D0%B0%D0%BA.jpg of ukrainian opera singer Vasyl Pazych which were used in my article about him. https://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9F%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%B8%D1%87_%D0%92%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%B8%D0%BB%D1%8C_%D0%86%D0%BB%D0%B0%D1%80%D1%96%D0%BE%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%87

Deletion request was wrote by russian named Dogad75 who copied to russian wiki storage the photo which deletion he requested afterwards: https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A4%D0%B0%D0%B9%D0%BB:%D0%92%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%B8%D0%BB%D0%B8%D0%B9_%D0%98%D0%BB%D0%BB%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%BE%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%87_%D0%9F%D0%B0%D0%B7%D0%B8%D1%87.jpg and used it for russian wiki article: https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%9F%D0%B0%D0%B7%D1%8B%D1%87,_%D0%92%D0%B0%D1%81%D0%B8%D0%BB%D0%B8%D0%B9_%D0%98%D0%BB%D0%BB%D0%B0%D1%80%D0%B8%D0%BE%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%87

So this photos was good for russian wiki but has "an unclear copyright statut" for ukrainian? I do not agree with this russian logic. I know the dother of Vasyl Pazych. She is the owner of the uploaded photos and if it needs I can get a permition from her for using them. But from another hand it would be right to ask russians to show permission for using photos of ukrainian singer. Isn' t it?

Is it possible anyhow to restore the photos you are deleted, please? I have these photos but why to uploaded what were uploaded already? It is not reasonable.

Sincerely yours,

--67maximov (talk) 22:09, 3 September 2016 (UTC)

  • Dear 67maximov, to care about local Russian or Ukrainian Wikipedias is not in my assignment nor it is a center of interest for me. We are on Wikimedia Commons here. It is true that Wikipedia in some langages allows to use material protected by copyright for fair use. A user of Russian Wikipedia may have the right to upload a non free image in his Wikipedia for fair use in the extend the image meet the criteria, I've nothing to do with that, feel free for you to do the same in every other Wikipedias that allows the use of fair use content. The copyright holder is generally the photographer, and if it's not the photographer then we must know why. Who is the photographer? is there one different photographer for each deleted images? what are the dates of the photos? they have already been published? when? where? To determine copyright statut of an image is a serious matter of concern, and our policies are very clear, when there is a signifiant doubt the image are deleted. Vasyl Pazych was likely not the owner of the photos (unless they are selfies), nor his daughter is likely not the copyright owner now. If you know the copyright owner, you must follow the instructions written at OTRS. And if the OTRS volunteer accepts your statement the file(s) will be restored. Or if the images are old enough to be in public domain, you have to provide evidences and informations for why they are in public domain (author, date, country...). Best regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 07:57, 4 September 2016 (UTC)

This content is licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license."...

MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 12:52, 18 September 2016 (UTC))

Question

There's a discussion taking place on en.Wikipedia regarding COI. The COI guideline regarding images currently states:
Supplying photographs and media files
Editors with a COI are encouraged to upload high-quality media files that are appropriately licensed for Wikipedia and that improve our coverage of a subject. For more information, follow the instructions at Commons. In some cases, the addition of media files to an article may be an uncontroversial edit that editors with a COI can make directly, but editors should exercise discretion and rely on talk pages when images may be controversial or promotional. If the addition of an image is challenged by another editor, it is not uncontroversial.

See the COI Talk Page for the ongoing discussion. Can you tell me if there is a Commons Project page or community noticeboard where other Commons users/media uploaders can participate in this discussion? Atsme 📞 02:17, 19 September 2016 (UTC)

Copyright image

For the image recently deleted, it was spread through social media quickly and picked up by others. A friend of mine took it and allowed me to use it as if it were my own (I'm not exactly sure about what policy there is for this, but no bad intentions here). I like to add images to articles as much as I can since they are valuable to those reading Wikipedia articles. Saša M.Savić, artist

Dear Mr Ferrer, These files are scanned .jpg files from the newspapers and magazines, simply here as a reference to the interview which Mr Robert Sinclair has published. They also serve as additional info about the themes they represent. Since there are no digital versions of these articles available on the Net, this was the only way they could be shown to the public. So referencing from the web pages is allowed and from the scanned docs is not? Nevertheless, I sent letters to the editors of most of these newspapers (many of them do not exist anymore) and all of them replied that I could use those articles as I wish. And to resume, The scanned articles are references to my own artworks and interviews I gave in the past, and Mr Sinclair put in his own interview and published here in Wiki as additional information and he is not violating any copyrights whatsoever. You will agree with me that Puritanism can be great danger to free journalism as well as to Encyclopedic information. So please Mr Ferrer, I kindly ask you to revise your decision and let these files be treated as public documents to serve their historic purpose. • File:WITHIN-WITHOUT in Paphos, catalogue.jpg • File:Politika, 12. april 1992.jpg • File:Sphere-of-trash.jpg • File:Ha Galil,13.03.92.a.jpg • File:Ha Galil,13.03.92.b.jpg • File:Filelefteros,-Nicosia.jpg • File:Politika, 12. jul 1997.b.jpg • File:Politika, 12. jul 1997.a.jpg • File:Sphere,C.M.jpg • File:Sea@net, C.W.jpg • File:Sasa, USA, C.W. 2.jpg • File:Sasa USA, C.W. 1.jpg • File:Praxis Sphere.jpg • File:Millidgeville 2.jpg • File:Millidgeville 1.jpg • File:Ha Eretz,20.12.91.jpg • File:Kegham.jpg • File:Cyprus Mail copy.jpg • File:Cyprus Mail 2 copy.jpg • File:Artist, C.W.jpg • File:Artist, C.W.2.jpg • File:Jewel.tif Newspapers and magazines are copyrighted material, the right to freely license such works belong to their owners. • The following files represent my own works of art. All of them! So please, reconsider your decision and either undo the deletion, or let me publish them again. It is a lot of work involved in naming, dating, describing, copy and pasting of these photographs. So please save us some trouble of doing the same thing allover again. If you can, of course. I am not blaming you, because you are doing your job. You can not possibly read all these documents and tribute them to the right owner. • Hello Saša M.Savić. By publishing an image here, you do it by putting a licence that allow commercial reuse. Images and texts in newspapers are subjected to copyright, and only the copyright owners have the rights to add such license to their works. These images are copyright violations until they are free for some reasons (old enough to be in public domain, a permission to OTRS was sent by the copyright owner or an evidence the newspaper have been firstly published under a free license...). Sorry no, the images of magazines and newspaper can not be restored.
Artworks like painting, sculpures ... are subjected to copyright and once again we need the permission from the creator(s) of the artworks (painter, sculptor...). Here too a permission must be send to OTRS, and if you'are the artist so it belong to you to send this permission. And to publish a photo (also subjected to copyright) here, you must be the photographer or an evidence for why the photo is free must be provided, or again the permission must be sent. requesting instruction

Dear Mr. Ferrer! These all licencing policy and editors of Wikipedia look more like licencing and editorial police. It is equally difficult to make and edit a good article in Wikipedia as to make a PHD. I can tell you one thing, the simpler you make it the better Wikipedia would become. At this moment it is not good at all. I will be patient though. Please can you instruct me how to licence my own artworks. Do I need to apply for the patent? I can do that. I need to send a permission to OTRS? How do I do that. Then I make photographs my own works and again I need the licence for a single photograph? Are you people nuts? Please tell me Mr. Ferrer what is ART? I will tell you! IT IS A FREEDOM OF CREATION! And you licencing people are killing it! Big time!

Derivative modern art? Notification about possible deletion! Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing! This is ART POLICE! People new to editing make mistakes. Instead of instructing them you are scaring them, you are threatening them, offending them! Please!

Look at my case, please. I sent photographs of my artworks and magazine articles to Mr Sinclair, who made an article about me. He published it. Then he wanted to publish the photos as my artworks. He needed a permission. OK, I sent him an email stating that he has a permission. He submits it. Not good enough. Deleted. Everything. Then I myself upload the photos of my own artworks. Notification about possible deletion, follows. Explanation > someone, some monster individual (my words), is trying to upload already deleted photographs. Than the horror message comes... Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing! Come on! And the cherry: ...contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you! Really Thank you!

And lets talk about copyrighted newspaper articles. Who owns them? The article written about me, my thoughts, my art, my opinion, my life! Who owns them Mr. Ferrer? I have to humiliate myself to ask an editor to give ME a permission to show it to the public (thousands of people already seen it). They printed those papers to have financial gains. I gave my interviews for free! I gave THEM a permission to print these articles! Who owns them, Mr Ferrer. I certainly don't want to reprint them and sell them again. Thank you for your time Saša Savić Eccesale (talk) 16:29, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

OK, OK. The sting was towards the general rules and policies. I just poetically impersonated the tone of the discussion. No offence to you. I will come back in a little while... Eccesale (talk) 17:42, 1 October 2016 (UTC)

Question

--Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 12:44, 3 October 2016 (UTC)

My Files

Hello Mr. Christian. thanks for sending a message about deleting some of the my files. I added correct licensing of JA, H.M and HM. Hossein Mirkhani was born 1907 and Jamshid Amini was born 1903. But about NJ which isn't an old photo, one of the my friends named Ali Yarraasti took it and he sent me his photo for adding on commenswiki. Actually NJ is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. But i am sorry for adding rest of them (EK, GHA and HMO) on commenswiki. please delete them in the short time. Thanks. Farhad.2119. 06:32, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

  • Hello @Farhad.2119: the issue is the links provided by you in the fields "source" lead to images on the web, but this must lead to the web pages where you found the images. Regarding the photo not yet in public domain, the author must send a permission to OTRS where you can read the instructions on how to do so. Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 06:37, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Are you talking specifically about NJ? Because I think new licensing of JA, H.M and HM don't have any problem. Thanks. Farhad.2119. 06:50, 4 October 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for your explaining. i added the link of the web pages. Thanks. Farhad.2119. 05:55, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

Thank you so much dear Christian Ferrer. But one thing about GHA: It releasd on Aks.Roshd for the first time. This line is in page of About Us: دانش‌آموزان می توانند از اين تصاویر در نشریه‌ها، وبلاگ‌ها یا وب‌سایت‌های خود استفاده کنند (Translation: The Students can use photos in their Newspapers, Weblogs and Websites). It doesn't mean we can use photos of Aks.Roshd on CommonsWiki? Thanks. Farhad.2119. 12:04, 5 October 2016 (UTC)

Thank you so much for information about deleting my file https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Nagual-band.jpg, i changed information about liсensing, but i'm not sure it's ok. It's my first media-file on WIKI and i have some difficulties. =( Can you help me?

  • Hello, I removed the tag because now the file have a source, however "own work" is mainly if you have taken the photo, or created the artwork, yourself. So it is ok if you're the photographer. But if you're are not the photographer and/or the copyright owner, the file is copyright violation until we have a permission from the owner, and in case of copyright violation the file must be deleted. Featured pictures/Places/Natural

I think that those "...more featured pictures" links on that page don't stand out enough. Would it be ok to add that kind of "other galleries" section in the top of the page like for example in here? Kruusamägi (talk) 10:29, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

Are there any limitations on images been listed into several FP categories (example)? Kruusamägi (talk) 14:34, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
  • It's done, I made "other galleries" sections, thanks for the suggestion. No I see no limitations if an image met the criteria for several categories, there are several pictures already on two different galleries, some put by myself. Feel free to change the storage or the formating in galleries as you wish. Christian Ferrer (talk) 14:45, 15 October 2016 (UTC)
Ok. I'll then take a look into where are the Estonian images classified and add them to this newly created page if appropriate. Kruusamägi (talk) 15:12, 15 October 2016 (UTC)

A cup of tea for you!

Hi Christian. I wanted to apologize for the way I treated you last night. I was confrontational and disrespectful. There's no excuse for how I behaved toward you. We've always gotten along really well. I hope I didn't mess that up. My embarrassingly immature behavior of last night certainly won't be repeated. Take care. lNeverCry 10:01, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
  • Hi @INeverCry: , no problem, thank you, although there was no need to apologize from my point of view, as I did not feel hurt or attacked. I have learned in life, the art of compromise, and I accept people with whom I disagree. Compromise is essential for teamwork. Furthermore, when there is a disagreement, strong is the one who can really say who was right at 100% and who was wrong at 100%, and finaly who can say this kind of disagreement is not helpful in a community? Christian Ferrer (talk) 11:32, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
Well, I'm glad you're not annoyed with me. The main thing for me was that I know I could and should have discussed the issue more calmly and constructively. I've got to stop staying on Commons for 12+ hours per day as Colin rightly pointed out. It's difficult to discuss things productively when you're tired and short-tempered after a long day of editing. lNeverCry 20:15, 22 October 2016 (UTC)
