That’s not true, the permission is not from a third party, it is from the owner of the photo himself, he gave the right to move the photo to the public domain, this would mean anyone could use it for whatever purposes they needed, I also specified the license which would be used to the owner. I really appreciate the followup replies from you to make the JPG upload right.

I noticed the pictures are now removed due to the copy right issues. My apologies on uploading the pictures; though Carl Demaio has free use of the JPGs for his web pages did not know on free use policy for Wikipedia.

Carl Demaio plans on uploading a brand new personal picture of an upcoming press conference to me next week so that I may upload it for the Wikipedia page. Please let me know procedures on the copyright procedure. A concern of providing proof of personal Email due to privacy issues, so I am unclear how to submit proof copy right for a personal picture. Carl Demaio and the person holding his cell phone taking the picture has authorized me to upload the upcoming JPG.

Hi Patrick,

Someone twice has gone in and edited in political opinion statements into the "California Proposition 6 (2018)" Wikipedia Page.

I removed the political opinion statements and any personal view points even if from a politician. This to prevent others from the public from also adding personal view narrative to the page.

My creation of the California Proposition 6 (2018) is to stick to factual information only. I believe this is the intent of Wikipedia as a look up reference of facts and leaving opinions to blog posts.

Please let me know if my removal of the political quote opinions is okay and if a public contributor or an official Wikipedia Editor Employee is causing this. I do not want to overstep my bounds by deleting any Wikipedia Editor Employee edits.

If the political opinion is not allowed, perhaps a notice sent out to whoever is adding opinions in to the page?

The California Proposition 6 (2018) Wikipedia page was edited again by a user adding in political opinion once again. I reverted the page back removing the opinions that placed a negative on the proposition bill before noticing a message from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Narayansg. I left a message to Narayansg why I reverted the page back. The first major edit removed the Car Registration Fee Tax reference and replaced with political opinion denouncing the proposition bill. I removed the opinions only to find the opinions again edited back in the next day.

Please let me know how I should proceed should the other user add in political opinion again. I feel Wikipedia pages should be reference facts only and not opinions to affect an election vote against or for any Proposition.

Servus Patrick Rogel, nach dem die Fotos innerhalb von 7 Tagen entfernt wurden, was eindeutig ein zu kurzes Zeitfenster ist und die OTRS-Tickets angeführt wurden, wäre es wünschenswert, wenn du dich wie in der Schnellikeit des Löschens, auch um die Wiederherstellung annehmen würdest. Man dankt für Korrekturen und Verbesserungsvorschläge, aber dieses Vorgehen mit dem zu kurzen Zeitraum ist konterproduktiv im Ablauf.

Rachel K Collier photo part 2[edit]

Hi Patrick -thanks for the reply -ok, I will send an email to that address if that is what is requried. However, the reason given for the copyright violation (based on usage here: https://twitter.com/BeatsByGirlz/status/975756995473977344) is not a valid reason for the image to be removed, as the image is clearly in general use at the following places by the artist, who has requested that I add this image to her wikipedia page:-

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

J'ai posté sur une page à propos d'André Fertré (https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9_Fertr%C3%A9) deux photos de bois gravés dont il est l'auteur (L'Abbaye de l'Épau, et La Chapelle Saint André). Ces photos sont maintenant sous le coup d'une demande de suppression pour des raisons de copyright, pourtant, je suis l'auteur des images que je souhaite importer et elle n'ont jamais été publiées auparavant. J'ai suivi toute les demandes de wikipédia, la photo a été posté à la demande du comédien lui-même et l'auteur de la photo a donné sa permission avec la licence et tout ce qui est demandé par wikipedia, la photo peut-être utilisé par n'importe qui et pourtant elle est sans arrêt effacé sans aucune raison véritable. Donc, notez bien que si la bande-annonce d'un film américain publiée entre 1923 et 1977 ne comporte pas de mention de copyright, toute image qui en est extraite peut être publiée sur commons avec le bandeau de licence approprié (PD-US-no notice) que j'ai utilisé, même si, et j'insiste bien sur ce point, le film est lui-même sous copyright. This legal file is deleted now because of your action, in spite of the fact that I gave you the explanation that it is a cropped version of a file that has been OTRS approved. If the original has been approved to be CC-BY-SA than the cropped version has this license as well. When you see "(cropped)" in the title, the chance is 99,9% that the file is created with the local Commons:CropTool. That should have alarmed you as well. 1. L'utilisateur charge l'image pour obtenir le lien du commons.

2. Il envoie le lien à la personne qui doit envoyer l'approbation.

3. Celui-ci répond après avoir lu l'e-mail. Les institutions ont une période de réponse de 30 jours.

4. Le volontaire OTRS traite le ticket quand son tour arrive. Cela peut prendre quelques mois dans la queue d'attente anglaise. Dans la queue d'attente roumaine, cela peut prendre jusqu'à ce que les volontaires viennent d'une éventuelle fête, peut-être un mois.

Making deletion requests[edit]

First of all, thank you for contributing to the project.

Second, a few things. When reporting a copyvio (with the "Report copyright violation" link), make sure the rationale you enter is a good one that can't possible be something that actually originates from Commons. This means that deeplinking (like directly to a .jpg) is generally not useful as this often doesn't prove when something was uploaded. The context (like photo credit) can also not be seen on a deeplink. Linking a lower quality image is in general not a good idea either, but may be acceptable when the source is reliable and has a clear date. (like a newspaper)

When it seems like it is possible the user who uploaded the image actually is the copyright owner (bands that are not very famous, things like that), use "No permission" instead. This will not accuse the user of a copyright violation but instead just ask them to send OTRS permission. (and delete the image after 7 days) The user name can be a clue for this.

When you have found a bad Flickr user, be sure to report them to an administrator so they can be added to the blacklist. By searching for "insource:flickrname" you can find all contributions they made and report them, like Commons:Deletion requests/undefinedinsource:barbarabrannon. - Alexis Jazz 21:02, 14 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, Patrick, I´m surprised you say "it's very unlikely that you are the photographer since you are the model" I usually take pictures for my professional book by using a remote control. It's been a long time since I take my own pictures, as I don't like to pose in front of a professional photographer. It's very simple: I turn the display to me, see if I am in the frame and press the button in the remote control. The metadata are missing because I process the photo to take out some objects that are in the background, as you see this method needs some reframing. And also because I want to avoid the thumbnail view which appears in the exif information. Deletion requests of William Conger images[edit]

Hi Patrick - this is in reference to these images: File:William Conger Trolley 2007.jpg and File:William Conger Say When 2017 30x28.jpg. I had contacted the artist and he designated the images for the public domain as shown on his 500px.com pages for each. I didn't realize they were shown elsewhere with copyrights. The file is the exactly the way it was uploaded on flicker, without any edits and the likes. Whenever a file is uploaded online, it gets a somewhat lower resolution from the original. Likewise, it gets a different resolution when it was uploaded here in the wiki. Furthermore, I, on the the other hand, was the one who downloaded the file itself in flicker as Juliochesare. I have the original copy of the file and I'm allowing that this file could be used for free purposes. Okay, aside from the obvious reason that I was there when I took them, I've acquired the photos by using my phone and I intend to only use them for entertainment purposes and as such share them. Hello sorry, do you follow? There are a lot of cases and instances that whenever I, and anybody for that matter, upload images to flickr, our photos lose both chroma saturation and contrast. Likewise, upon uploading the images here and somebody checks, they appear different to them and assume that they may be flickrwashed if that's the term. And as aforementioned above, these were around for almost entirely a year and some did reach that extent because they were already reviewed and approved. This does not make a lot of sense and this was only brought up when an anonymous user allegedly said that the previous image that is now deleted was flickrwashed. I was indeed aware of his allegations; however, I had no time before to defend my side and explain everything, and maybe that's why the photo was even deleted since no defense was provided for the uploader. I'm just so surprised with all these notifications taking up my inbox when in fact prior to making rash actions such as nominating them for deletion, this should have been discussed properly. Wrongful deletion[edit]

You made a pretty big mistake when you deleted my File:GorillaBourban.jpg claiming it was a copyvio. You should have checked Commons first - the file you deleted comprises public domain images and was properly licensed - including :File:WesternLowlandGorillaP2.jpeg which is not a derivative from the blog you cited. Nevertheless the file "found everywhere" was a picture without the signature on the bottom left and has appeared on the Internet without a free license prior to being uploaded here. I don't see why it's irrelevant to mention it here."

CC BY-SA is the default selected by the upload wizard. They probably don't even know what ND means and thought all CC BY licenses are the same or they would all be accepted here. Any other place on the internet where the image shows up is irrelevant, they may well be using it legitimately (albeit perhaps without proper attribution, which is not uncommon) using that CC BY-ND license. If the source as provided by the uploader doesn't provide a valid license, that's all we need to know.

It could also go the other way: if the source does provide a valid license but you would overlook it (I wouldn't blame you, some sites do not put it in obvious places) it still won't matter the image is all over the internet. File:180602 J-Hope Sangam Fansign (1).jpg for example, I wouldn't blame anyone for overlooking the CC-BY icon. It doesn't matter if the image is all over Facebook/Twitter/etc.

The image being all over the internet only matters if the uploader is claiming "own work". If they provide a link to the source, that source should be examined for validity. Either tag it with {{LicenseReview}} if you're not sure, nominate for deletion if you suspect the source may not have a valid license or tag as copyvio if the source is obviously not the real source. This would generally be the case if the source is both unofficial and the image has been published elsewhere before it was published at the source. thanks for letting my know I did not enter the image info correctly. I always seem to do that. Both images that I have worked on in the past, I ha permission from the owner (Julie K. Stein--owner gave permissoin) and Christina Warinnner (existing wikicommons photo that I wanted to crop for her Wikipedia biography, and came from Flickr--owner gave permission Attribute 2.0)

Bonjour, la photo est une photo d'identité fait dans un magasin de photographie lambda, il n'y a donc pas de violation de droit d'auteur. Ensuite c'est la famille qui est détentrice actuelle de la phot et c'st sur son accord unanime que j'ai mis la photo.Je suis sa fille en l’occurrence. C'est la seule photo dont je dispose pour compléter sa page wikipédia. Je note par avance que cette photo a été accordé par le défunt et par la famille après son décès à la presse pour leur permettre de l'utiliser, ce pourquoi on peut la trouver dans plusieurs article de presse. Au delà de ça je me suis trompé, dans la description de la photo j'ai mis le commentaire qui était destiné à Commons qui expliquait cette situation pour que la photo soit accepter. Si vous pouviez modifier cela je vous en serai reconnaissante.Pareillement je ne savais pas quoi rempli au niveau des licences, pourriez vous rectifier mes erreurs svp afin que les info soient bien saisis et permettent sa publication en bonne et du forme. California Prop 6 (2018)[edit]

Dear Patrick, I have been in an edit war with CRTGAMER over an article on California Proposition 6 (2018). I don't want to spend more time on this edit war, but I also don't want it to be biased in favor of Proposition 6. CRTGAMER made claims in the article that are factually incorrect, and used grammatically incorrect English. I removed those claims, and put in additional information about the background of the proposition (which is properly sourced). For those reasons, I believe that my version is better.

Can you please take charge of this article as a neutral third p arty, and make sure that this article adheres to Wikipedia's standards?

The silverscreen version, while slightly smaller, does have a copyright tag in the EXIF data. This is not necessarily proof that they are the original owners of the file, since anyone can add such a tag to a photo, along with a watermark. I am not convinced that this is what happened though. Is there some form of image sharing agreement between the two sites, maybe? Photos about Rafael Caldera[edit]

Hi Patrick, the photos that I uploaded for the page of Rafael Caldera are free to use. Are not from newspapers, are part of the private archive of the former President and some of them were never used in the Internet. The images about the first and second government are property of Caldera-Pietri family, the Oficina Central de Información doesn't exist and they have been used by the family to illustrate some books about Caldera.

Please, this addition of images is important for Venezuelan history in Wikipedia.

Tout simplement, un bandeau est apparu depuis quelques jours sur ma page wikipedia indiquant q'une photo serait la bienvenue. Après avoir parcouru les recommandations de Wikipedia, j'ai, hier après-midi, envoyé à Wikimedia commons un selfy que j'ai fait le 4 juin 2018 avec mon propre smartphone (LG2). Cette photo étant la plus récente, c'est celle que j'adresse systématiquement aux revues littéraires qui me demandent une photo pour accompagner ma biobibliographie. Le revue en ligne italienne Corso Italia a en effet publié cette photo en juin dernier, puisque c'est moi-même qui l'ai envoyée. J'ignore par contre la date exacte de sa mise en ligne. A noter que j'ai mis également cette photo sur mon profil facebook. Je certifie donc sur l'honneur que cette photo ne viole en rien le droit d'auteur...puisque j'en suis l'auteur. The original file is an image that I captured and uploaded to Wikipedia in 2016. This website: https://www.geni.com/people/Ronald-WILLIAMS/6000000069972466084 clearly took the image from the Wikipedia page and even links directly to the Wikipedia page I had created.

The newest version of the image (which you have filed the violation notice against) is simply the same image that has already been uploaded to Wikipedia, but with smaller dimensions. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to rectify this or if it is possible for me to directly crop the image that already exists in Wikipedia's database.

Why did you put no source/author template here? The same goes for other pictures uploaded by this user. Both source and author are given.
