Thank you for helping me out! Could you please point me to a tutorial, that will lead me through how to provide an attribution for an image taken from a newspaper microfilm reel?

I did follow the first obvious link, but it took me to some code that was, by itself, indecipherable, with no help link easy at hand. Many thanks. Dw861 (talk) 17:01, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

If you didn’t take the photo yourself but instead got it from some other source, there’s a good chance that the image is protected by copyright. So, if the image came from a newspaper, then you will need to provide as much information about the source as possible to help establish whether (1) the image has been released by its copyright holder under a license Commons accepts or (2) the image was never protected by copyright or is no longer protected by copyright (i.e. it’s considered to be with in the public domain for some reason). See COM:L, COM:HIRTLE and COM:OTRS#If you are NOT the copyright holder for more details on the kinds of file Commons accepts. — Marchjuly (talk) 22:10, 23 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
