PS: the specs I've used are at File:United Kingdom Flag Specifications.svg. --F l a n k e r (talk) 17:38, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Your file have not aligned cross (horizontal bar are not aligned). A SVG file should be graphically corrected before else... If you need a more elegant code, you are welcome to correct mine. And last but not list, ask before modify a simple page like this one, is not in the wiki philosophy. --F l a n k e r (talk) 17:46, 28 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
LOL, I don't rely on anyone, is You that seems to be unconfortable witha a 4kb SVG... Please, can I rely on you to make the George cross horizontal? Also the St. Patrick's Cross seems to be too close to the St Andrew's borders. --F l a n k e r (talk) 20:23, 29 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, the cross of St. George seemed to me to have the horizontal arms not perfectly horizontal, I've checked it and they are correct instead.
About the St. Patrick's Cross: it seems to me to be too large (according to United Kingdom Flag Specifications.svg it must be 2/6 of the St Andrew's) and too close to the St Andrew's borders. What's the measure have you adopted (and why) for all the crosses? (I do not want to sound stickler, but since it's not me that have started the discussion and since we're talking about a flag...) --F l a n k e r (talk) 10:55, 30 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
File:Brasão Eugene George.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. Re:Heterosexual flag[edit]

I'm deeply sorry if the picture offended anyone. I would like them to have a different flag from the "prison stripes", yes, but this page seems to say that it is popular and proposed. So, again, I'm sorry about it, and the "contrast with the rainbow flag"-well, the webpage seems to say that this is what it was for. But, now that I see it, it looks more like it was made to be for heteronormativity, not heterosexuality, and the design was most likely for the purpose of taking the colour out of the rainbow flag. Personally, your flag makes much more sense, except, I think all the sexuality flags should have stripes because I just have this perfectionist thing. You can delete mine if you want, because I certainly won't be using it on the Internet anymore, and it may be a little offensive. Again, sorry. Please do not be offended. Shikku27316 (talk) 23:16, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I understand. The thing is, I'm not trying to give it "worldwide acceptance", I just thought that it was a little popular or something, so I figured it must be on here. Maybe it should be renamed to "Heterosexism_flag" or "Heteronormativity_flag" because, you're right, it does take the colour out of the rainbow flag. I honestly hate heterosexism (the belief that heterosexuality is the best thing and anyone else is an abhorrence or something), so that is not what I was going for. On the page I linked, they said it could also represent the yin-yang, and anyone who is heterosexual and knows about the yin-yang would most likely see that first. I saw a picture once with 4 of the sexual orientation flags, the trans* flag, and the flag I uploaded and it showed cartoon people thinking all the flags were pretty, except this "heterosexual" flag, so I guess it could have negative connotations. Of course, I am asexual so I might be too biased to see any offense with any of them (given that I am also strongly antisexual), so I'm sorry to anyone who was offended (not saying you were, but anyone else who was). And, I believe it was you who, on Sexual identity symbols, captioned the romantic asexual heart with "demisexual" and the AVEN triangle as "asexual triangle". Well, the problem with these symbols was that the heart represented romantic asexuals alone, and the AVEN triangle was only for AVEN, so we had to create a flag (which I personally think is not very inclusive, but I use it nonetheless). Please, don't caption them as "demisexual" or "asexual triangle" because that is simply not accurate. Sorry if my tone was not very nice, I didn't want to be not nice here. Also, do I still have the rights to upload pictures, like flags, and put them on that page? Shikku27316 (talk) 17:10, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. Well, as for romantic asexuality and demisexuality, romantic asexuality is when one is not attracted to people sexually, but does desire romantic relationships with them. Demisexuality is when somebody cannot experience sexual attraction to someone until they have formed a romantic relationship with that person. For more information, please go to www.asexuality.org , as I'm sure I did a terrible explanation. Well, there are some flags that are not yet on here (even some proposed ones), so I'll work on them. --Shikku27316 (talk) 03:41, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You know, I hate to ask this after everything, but could you change the canton to 3:5? It looks too long compared to the photo as is. The cross is still Scandinavian-style shifted leftwards so that the fly is longer then the hoist. If you want, I can do half the work and re-construct the flag using File:Flag of Scotland.svg which is 3:5, I just can't do the red saltire and letters. Fry1989 eh? 22:21, 26 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm really really realllllllllly sorry but the canton wasn't 3:5, and the fly got way too long. I fixed it how I want it now, but you'll have to do the saltire and letters one last time. I swear this is the last time and you've been so generous. Fry1989 eh? 05:07, 27 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wavy stripes[edit]

You made them from scratch on File:Flag of the West Indies Federation.svg, could you teach me how to make a similar one, or by any chance make one for me (I'll attribute you in what I need it for)? I want a vertical wavy stripe that is inkscape compatible. The dimensions are 300 high, and 10 thick, with two bends leftwards and one bend rightwards, so that the position of the front of the stripe meets the back of the stripe half way down like in this drawing. Can you help? Fry1989 eh? 21:57, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry, my math was wrong. The width needs to be 20, not 10. Everything else you did was perfect, if you could just increase the width and re-align the curve so the front still meets the back half-way down, I'd be so thankful. I don't think I know how to do it in a text editor. Fry1989 eh? 20:36, 1 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Math was never my friend. Thanks so much. Fry1989 eh? 00:53, 2 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Great coincidence.[edit]

It has long had in mind to make the coat of arms of each cardinal alive, but postponed it due to time. But finally I decided to make them in November, I started from scratch, I made my own tassels, galero, and different types of processional crosses. I also made different types of croziers. Interestingly, I had much desire to finish before the new year. I have yet to do 44 coats of cardinals. Not everyone is happy with the new versions, the authors of previous versions and other users do not like to replace them, at first, did not want to make the shields that were already made in SVG format, but I saw that they had serious errors heraldic, and aesthetic shortcomings, I decided to make them too.

Do you speak Spanish?. for the message I used a translator online, sorry for the errors.--SajoR (talk) 23:04, 12 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This image may change your mind who shows that the Palestinian flag was used long before it was adopted officially.--Uishaki (talk) 20:24, 5 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why do you defend the map of "Israel" so clearly and working on historical revisionism on everything regard Palestine? Every person with a conscience knows that the "Israeli" entity was established on vanity with a major conspiration by colonial states, at the expense of the innocent Palestinian people.--Uishaki (talk) 15:03, 9 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Attributed arms[edit]

While I was browsing through Special or Fictional arms for this deletion request, I stumbled on the quarrel we had back in 2010 with Ssire on attributed arms. The "solution" thought up back then was very confusing, and really messy. Could we perhaps fix it by renaming Category:Attributed arms to Category:Arms attributed to historical or mythical figures? Oh, and involve others this time. Lemmens, Tom (talk) 09:28, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I guess we could discuss him, but his behaviour did indeed seem quite POINTy, and he's probably still angry at me. I did some really stupid things when was a new member, ignorant of the policies, trespassing on the territory of his heraldry project. Perhaps Dunkerqueenflandre knows the current situation. He was harassed back in 2012 for adding coats of arms in my style to the French Wikipedia. But in any case, a consensus is what's needed. We could approach other users, or an administrator, for advice. Oh, and Category:Arms attributed to historical, biblical and mythical figures perhaps?Lemmens, Tom (talk) 10:52, 6 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Watermarks[edit]

I find with these that images without watermarks show up eventually. These are nice because they prove all versions of the same photo are PD. SVG defects[edit]

Thanks for the message -- I've been trying to figure out what was going wrong for at least an hour now. Someone on IRC suggested http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:SVG_help#Missing_objects_or_black_boxes a couple of minutes earlier and that solved the artifacting. But I'm still running into issues with how the text looks -- compare this with this. Any ideas to that end of things?   — C M B J   06:11, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I can see now by comparing them side by side that it's just a font rendering difference - it's defined as Sans, though.   — C M B J   06:13, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi AnonMoos[edit]

There is not much point in indenting to speak with me at ANU, as there was very damaging-to-the-project discussion here where, well, a cat can understand it really, too many trolls spoil the broth. So there are trigger happy tools with tools who itch to click the block button with their tool.

So I don't feel the overwhelming need to do what I am always good at, which is opening dialogue with difficult to talk to people and bringing them into the community. I guess we can all look forward to the replacement of wikipedia with something that actually works properly, the 'new editor' figures literally halved in about the last 5 years.

If you personally want my help with someone or something, feel free to use my talkpage, many people prefer that to the drama boards. (sorry for the adult/coarse concepts on your tp) Penyulap 15:28, 28 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#Knot theory. This is in relation to an issue with which you may have been involved.

Dear AnonMoos, I think you're right. I admire always your perfect (technical) drawings. I admit that I was not overly perfect. When the line-width is different, then the resulting slight 3D effect. If you mean this with "superficial appearance". I see now that the cross should not touch the escutcheon. I had seen that you yourself involve already more in Heraldry (with Sarang). It is really a kind of beautiful science. Unfortunately I have no experience with scripting drawing, but I could imagine it very interesting. I want to also use your French coat of arms shape templates.Perhelion (talk) 21:28, 2 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes that looks fine and yes I mean this shields. Inkscape has direct not such function. But standard extensions with /Render/Functionsplotter But I only changed the stroke-width of the clone wich has the same result!?-- Perhelion (talk) 15:50, 3 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'see you on going improving to perfection. Let say I'm wondering that you use a not perfect round shield. Here I've added some of your stuff (but I mean you 've seen it). Best regards-- Perhelion (talk) 14:12, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File:ESCUDO SAN JUAN DE LA RAMBLA.svg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Thanks for uploading File:Ling 001 jpg.JPG. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with GFDL to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with PD-self to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

They have done it again with both File:Hoa Hao flag.svg and File:Flag of South Vietnam.svg. That coupled with the questionable and possibly copyrighted photos they've been uploading, I would fully support you in a request for sanctions. Fry1989 eh? 19:02, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thanks for uploading "Chaplin West Virginia 1938.jpg", and for answering my question on the help board. When I upload photos from Flickr, I use the [2] tool and it picks up all the info. As you said, there doesn't seem to be a similar tool for Library of Congress. But when I see many photos in the commons that are from the Library of Congress, they have their own unique template (which I also found). What I was looking for was a tool to fill in all the details. Thanks for you help. Cheers. Richard apple (talk) 03:05, 3 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

upload question[edit]

Hello -

Thanks for being a guardian angel when I made my first GLAM uploads last year. I'll be uploading a few images as part of today's Edit-a-thon, and it occurs to me that this GLAM institution has no source website for their historic images. Rather, the images were scanned onto the volunteer-curator's personal laptop.

How do I license these images (fewer than 10 today)? Own? Yes, they will be pre-1923 and published. We were hoping to create a Commons project in the near future - is that advisable without an institutional website? We could create a website fairly quickly =/ but for sure uploading to Commons will get the images more play sooner than any boring ol'archival website. Hello, sorry to bother you, I just saw that you change the margins of the Swedish coat of arms that I asked Leonid 2

Could you do me a favor please, because I think it n 'is not well understood (my english is basic) I asked him to put the vases on the crown of the same color as the coat of arms and the crown on the blue cap. Like that

It is a forgotten painter who make the table that often I can give two examples

File:Armoiries d'Eugène de Suède.jpgFile:Armoiries du Prince Guillaume de Suède.jpg

For the second shield (Estelle Sweden) is the same.

could you please make the change and make the second coat of arms, it is only to change Part 3

Greetings and salutations, my good sire. I come to the court of the most exalted and gracious AnonMoos on this blessed day to bring you good tidings that hath require the utmost of urgencies. Through the course of the standard events of normalcy, it hath come to the attention of yours truly that when you hath simplify'd the scalable vector graphics file File:Serapis Flag.svg on the thirty-ninth minute of the eighth hour of the twentieth day of the month of March, in the year of our Lord twenty hundred and thirteen, you inadvertently removed one of the stripes, causing a transparency layer to be formed where there shant be one. I thought it was of my duty as a Wikimedian-Commoner of equal standing, to bring this to thy attention. Now, I must regret that I must bid you adieu. I trust and hope that our brief communiqué has been informative and one of sincerity. complaint[edit]

Hello how are you? I have a complaint relating to the user:Ich Pilot or user:B88 and his Sock puppetry (user:B88, user:Khny ,user:Zwanzig 20) he mad many of new uploads, which are not based on sources or in which the selection of sources, I asked him (user:Ich Pilot) to debate before doing any change, and I brought a variety of sources in order to debate, but he refuses to debate and even attack me.

Here is example for one of his personal attacks directed for me:by user:B88 attack my personal page and putting pictures calling me fascists and another picture as: If Jesus came kill him again! even he went to en and arwiki using low level of word, using low level of word in my Arabic page which called me a Christians Monkey!!! here you can also see some of his assaults on multiple articles as here, and here.

I open a discussion in these files: File:Christian Majority Countries-ar.png, File:Catholic Majority Countries.PNG and asking about the sources that he made, but user:B88 just keeping attacks and he never discuss. and he still create different accounts (user:B88, user:Khny ,user:Zwanzig 20) to uploads the same files without discussion the sources of his new file

user:Ich Pilot, user:Ich Pilot (create these accounts: (user:B88, user:Khny ,user:Zwanzig 20), which are his Sock puppetry because They have the same orientation, the same language in attacking, and more importantly, the same contributions ) had made many of new Contributions, which are not based on sources or selecting the sources that are compatible with his couches, I asked him (user:Ich Pilot) to discussed before making any changes to find a common solution (especially that there are many different Statistics which gives different data in the files you can see in the file Discussion page), and I brought a variety of sources in order to debate, and I asked him to debate before doing any modification until we get to the result of inappropriate but he refuses to debate and even attack me, I'll be grateful if you can stop that harassment, and I added here Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/Ich Pilot but no respond and user:B88 or user:Ich Pilot still doing Personal attack.

  • A note when I was new here every time I uploaded a picture and I log out I forget the password so that why when I upload the next file I do it in anther account. after that when user:martin H. explain to me the rules and explain to me to make this this account user:jobas I never did anther account and you can check even if you want, and after user:Martin H. help how the project work here and I reared the rules an after he warned me in 20 December 2012 I had only one account and never did new account, and all these accounts have nothing to do with my last uploads, so the previous accounts have noting to do with this problem as User:B88 claims you can also chick these file and see I only upload with this account. so have a nice day :D--Jobas (talk) 16:56, 16 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Those numbers and letters ("J.Mandel 104" etc. etc.) were on the physical postcards as originally printed, and are essential to verifying the original author (and thus copyright status), and for grouping related images together, among other uses. There have been discussions before, and the basic consensus is to leave the series IDs in place on images of old French postcards... AnonMoos (talk) 03:28, 23 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

dear AnonMoos, 26th March you adjusted the flag by removing a "mysterious" white stripe. Maybe your "mystery" can be cleared away by checking Flags of the World, Tanzania, Zanzibar, People's Republic of Zanzibar flag - variant. Or Wikipedia Flag of Zanzibar-site under Historical Flags: qte On 29 January, the flag was changed to a blue-black-green tricolour with a thin white stripe at the hoist.[1] This design, which was based on the flag of the Afro-Shirazi Party, was the longest-lived of the post-independence flags and eventually formed the basis for the current flag. unqte Please consider to undo your adjustment Regards / JanJC JanJC (talk) 17:20, 29 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Middleton arms[edit]

It was brought up as a copyvio before, you stated heraldry is somehow exempt. The guy who vectorized the image, Sodacan, even stated that he "Unilaterally uploaded another version, with more obvious differences, no longer based on a copyrightable work." He stated this image was vectorized from a "copyrightable work", and that in response to the original request for deletion he created a separate and unique version for your website. It's a copyvio.

  • The nonheraldic border isn't in the blazon. It's seen in the original painting, and seen in this copy.
  • The pinhole is not in the blazon. It is also found as artistic license in the original painting and found in the copy.
  • The nonheraldic border around the pinhole. In the original, here in the copy.
  • The lozenge is an unusual shape, an oval like thing with eight points. From the original, found in the copy.
  • The bow is not in the blazon. It's in the original, and in the copy. Hell, the bow is traced even.

There is another version done for this website that isn't a copyvio. Use that one.

Oh, and there are no legalities that allow someone to violate a copyright just because it's heraldic in nature, copyright laws make no special provisions for a coat of arms. Even if there was, it doesn't matter, the servers of this website are hosted in Florida and thus subject to Florida and United States law. In America, this is a copyright violation. -- 16:42, 6 September 2014 50.82.40.97

Original artwork issue[edit]

Your uploads are fabulous examples of original art, by an otherwise "nonnotable" artist (i assume you are not a famous designer), that bring solid value to this project. so please understand, my passion on this one uploaders crude images is based on my desire to get rid of poorly done work by nonnotable artists, as we are not a webhosting service. I am not trying to annoy admins. if that were true, i would be haranguing admins for all of my CFD's i have listed that have gone nowhere:) I am ok with my deletion requests being kept, i just want to know the basis for that keep. none has been presented, aside from the "in use" argument, which i am sorry to say i missed the files usage, and which i apologize for.Mercurywoodrose (int:Talkpagelinktext) 17:06, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but what about the merits of my arguments. none of them were ever addressed. I dont understand why process in this case should take priority over the arguments themselves. do YOU think this file should be kept? and if so, why? and i do see that a lot of your artwork is cleaning up historic images, which i recognize some of. again, then, why are you so interested in defending this file, which is the exact opposite of what you do so well? If being an admin was all about making sure all processes are followed precisely (which are all just conventions, not binding policy like at a corporation), then why would anyone want that "job"?Mercurywoodrose (int:Talkpagelinktext) 18:20, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

About the Teutonic Cross[edit]

Good day to you. I have recently uploaded a version of the Template:F, that I removed the white edge to improve the look of the image after its bordered. I cannot understand why you removed it. Pktlaurence (int:Talkpagelinktext) 06:45, 22 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I see your second and third reason being strong and valid, and therefore I apologise for my image editing techniques. However I consider that the long history of the file does not make a valid reason for not to reupload a new image. My reupload is absolutely necessary as the margin would be very obvious while I am using the file as a bordered icon, and the necessity exists no matter how long the file exists. Still, thank you for your advice and I will do my best to ensure the pixels are at 540x540 and the file size as small as possible. Thank you for your notice. Pktlaurence (int:Talkpagelinktext) 08:41, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
First of all, I am doing my comments right if my comments fits the format of talk page messages, and it is your very own responsibility to edit if you want to put my message at a different sequence in your user talk page. After that, you still have not explained why my second upload is problematic, and thus you are not qualified to remove my uploads. You are not a administrator, not even a rollbacker or page inspector, but just another ordinary Wikimedia user like me, so stop talking as if you are an administrator. Are you threatening me? I can't feel any needs to be scared. According to the official Wikipedia policies, editing wars are not vandalism as both sides have got decent reasons, so they can have the dispute to be settled down by an administrator and obeying to their final decisions. Pktlaurence (int:Talkpagelinktext) 15:21, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sarcastically, while you are accusing me of editing your messages on my talk page, you are removing my last message at the same time. Apart from this line, you are also 'skirting unnecessarily close' to the line of violating others' personal privacy, as what I am telling Steve is completely none of your business, unless you knows Steve personally and he tells you about this. If you would like to know the reason anyway, the lines depends on the person, 'DUDE'. As I have recently noticed, you may be an autopatroller or something, but it still does not change your arrogant and threatening attitude. I found being humble as a decent virtue, but it is exactly the case like in the famous quote of Thomas Mann, 'Tolerance becomes a crime when it's applied to evil.' Besides, I have taken a look into the com:overwrite page you have given, that it says 'minor cropping' would be allowed to replace but 'radical cropping' would not. I would be very disappointed to your sense of judgement if you consider a blank margin of 60 pixels 'radical'. I admit the image size may be problematic, but is not focusing on the difference of one to two pixels too petty? Maybe you are an autopatroller, may be I am just an ignorant new user but I am willing to read and learn, but it seems that you are too arrogant to do so. Re:Radium cosmetics[edit]

I ran into the ad while looking for something else. It's interesting because at the time, there was no thought about radioactive substances being able to harm you. Marie Curie, who eventually died from the effects of radium, carried it in her pocket many times. Many women were employed at various watch and clock companies to paint radium on the hands and numbers of watches and clocks so they could be seen in the dark. en:Radium Girls Had read about and seen photos of some of the women, who were told to wet the paint brush between their lips to make a fine point. Later, they were either dying or severely handicapped as a result of this "work".

If you take a look through old copies of the mail-order catalogs like Sears, you'll see things like arsenic wafers being sold to women to whiten their complexions. And people always talk about the "good old days". We hope (int:Talkpagelinktext) 20:11, 17 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My family knew someone who served in the army in WWI. In those days, the army not only issued you things like uniforms, they also gave the servicemen watches. The person said the numbers on the watches glowed so much at night, it made the men easy to spot in trenches. The army made the soldiers scrape the radium off the faces. Since it is apparently okay by Peaceworld111 to add Ahmadiyya to this map which is a small, obscure and what is widely viewed as a heretic sect to a map about Islam, why not add more established sects such as Muwahhidism/Salafism (who form a majority in the Nejd region of Saudi Arabia), and nondenominational Muslims (who form a majority in Kazakhstan)? Salafism and Muwahhidism are sometimes lumped in with Sunnism, but in reality there is no consensus by the ulema on whether they are Sunni or not. Secondly Nondenominational Muslims form 74% of Kazakhstan. These two are arguably more important and widespread than Ahmadis who are almost universally regarded as non-Muslim. Why should movements accepted as Muslim be shunned but movements disregarded as nonmuslim be sided alongside Ibadis, Shias and Sunnis on Muslim maps? Doesn't make sense does it? Therefpre I would appeciate it if you could add to that map, or teach me how to do so. I appreciate your help. Thanks 92.25.95.249 23:31, 11 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Assistance[edit]

If I gave you the dimensions, would you be able to create an exact equilateral triangle with rounded corners for me? Fry1989 eh? 18:28, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wonderful, thank you. These are the dimensions. As you can see each side has a length of 600 with each corner having a radius of 32. The inner white triangle is 28 in on each side of the red triangle, with each corner having a radius of 4. I appreciate this very much. Fry1989 eh? 16:18, 23 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Please don't hate me for this, but is there any way you can do both layers as paths and with the exact dimensions? The problem for me is that I'm working on the Philippine road signs, but the PDF just has the drawings in a grid like this, so in order for me to draw the symbols all the dimensions have to be the same as in the PDF. I really wish I could do it myself but with these angles and stuff I'm just not confident I could make the triangle properly. Fry1989 eh? 19:07, 26 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have no problem creating the grid and the symbols, but when I open your file in inkscape the length of each side of the red triangle is not 600 so it's not in the same proportion as the PDF drawings. What I was hoping for was for the red triangle to be a path, with the white triangle as a path on top of it, matching the proportions in my first link. This is how I do my stop signs, but as an octagon that's easier for me to do by myself. With the triangle and these rounded edges, I could maybe do it if I focus hard enough but it would be messy. I generated it in inkscape, unflowed the text and saved it as plain svg, then uploaded here and to my dismay the head of the arrow is now pointing the wrong way. I wanted it to point left and that is also how it appears in inkscape. Any idea how to fix that?

CoAs as logos[edit]

Concerning what you said here, well, CoAs are a specific type of emblems, while logos are a general type of emblems — it could be said that logos are emblems in general sense and therefore that CoAs, badges, monograms, (most) flags, etc., are all also logos. And, of course, an emblem is a symbol that expresses identity. So, by moving a CoA from among so-and-so logos back to among so-and-so symbols, you reduced the usefulness and accuracy of that categorization. -- Tuválkin 20:09, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I would say that logos are a particular sub-class of emblems or symbols. Logos in the specific sense (commercial printing "logotypes" or brand symbols) only have a small overlap with traditional heraldry. AnonMoos (int:Talkpagelinktext) 17:20, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
“Commercial logotypes”, even in its narrowest sense, overlap with coats-of-arms in such way that separating them is unproductive — unless a really detailed analysis is made and many subcategories are created: I’m not against that, but splitting logos and CoAs in two blocks just doesn’t work.
However, you insist on clumping «emblems or symbols», as if these were interchangeable. They are not: As I said above, «an emblem is a symbol that expresses identity» (therefore, symbols includes emblems which in turn include «CoAs, badges, monograms, (most) flags, etc.», but not, say, traffic signs). We seem to be using the term "logo" in Commons’ categories as a sloppy surogate for "emblem" (instead of using it for the much stricter commercial/corporate identity item you refer to). Maybe clean up work should be started by fixing that. -- Tuválkin 20:03, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You say "Commercial logotypes, even in its narrowest sense, overlap with coats-of-arms in such way that separating them is unproductive" but unfortunately that's simply not true. Heraldry is its own domain, with its own terminology and rules (governing which things are seen as "same" and "different", among many other matters). Traditional European heraldry dates from centuries before printing, and the textual "blazon" is authoritative (many different artistic depictions could all equally correspond to a single textual blazon). By contrast, commercial logotypes are a product of metal printing technology, and have a fixed artistic depiction which does not obey rigid rules of blazoning etc. A few companies have coats of arms as parts of logos, but usually in a rather ugly form (showing that the commercial logo artists have little real understanding or concern for heraldic traditions). AnonMoos (int:Talkpagelinktext) 09:27, 10 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for teaching me about Heraldry. Maybe you should look my name up online and find out that maybe you're preaching the choir. I suggest you try to adress the points I actually raised and not what you hastilty are assuming I did. Then, we can talk. Arms of John Hall[edit]

Hello, I noticed you made a very attractive rendition of the arms of William Shakespeare. Would you be able to do those of his son-in-law, John Hall? There is an illustration here, but it is in black and white and of very poor quality. I'm not 100% sure about the tinctures of the Hall half, but Burke in his General Armory names several families by the name Hall who bore argent, three talbots' heads erased sable, so I would go with that. Deletion discussion[edit]

Obviously I've irritated you and I apologize for that. I honestly do not understand how your comments reflect and edits I have made, and am hoping this is just a misunderstanding. I was not trying to clarify any situation, I was not trying to intervene in anything; if that was your impression I apologize. I created an image (which was in no way a personal message to any editors, and in no way reflects any personal belief) and uploaded it. If I am misinterpreting any part of your response I apologize. Obviously you are under no obligation to respond to any part of this, but it really bothers me that I would act in any way that someone could interpret as POINTed and disruptive; again that was not the intention. ▫ JohnnyMrNinja (talk / en) 00:48, 16 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Why does the thumbnail of your version look significantly different (lighter) than the thumbnail of the original file version? AnonMoos (int:Talkpagelinktext) 01:54, 26 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That's a good question. I don't know why, but it appears to be an issue specific to the thumbnailer. If you look at both full-size images, you can see that they appear identical in the browser. I was worried for a bit that the compressors I was using might be discarding unused PNG chunks, but when I ran both images through pngcheck, you can see that both of them have the same gAMA and cHRM chunks (saying what the gamma and chromaticity of the image is), however the new image was converted to greyscale because the pixel data for the R,G,B channels was always identical.
File: old.png (348422 bytes)
chunk IHDR at offset 0x0000c, length 13

chunk gAMA at offset 0x0003a, length 4: 0.45454
chunk cHRM at offset 0x0004a, length 32
    White x = 0.31269 y = 0.32899, Red x = 0.63999 y = 0.33001
    Green x = 0.3 y = 0.6, Blue x = 0.15 y = 0.05999
chunk IDAT at offset 0x00076, length 348284
zlib: deflated, 32K window, maximum compression
chunk IEND at offset 0x550fe, length 0
No errors detected in old.png (6 chunks, 69.6% compression).

Friendly request[edit]

Might you be able to construct this arrow for me? The curves are beyond my abilities. Fry1989 eh? 00:58, 31 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry about that. I'm redoing File:New South Wales R5-400.svg, and there is this PDF from NSW Roads & Maritime. The main sign is 450 units by 225 units. There are a few other arrows from Australian and Philippine signs I gotta do in the future, I really should learn how to be able to make them with the curved ends myself, but I appreciate your assistance very much. Fry1989 eh? 00:11, 2 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry to bug you, but is the new source helpful? Fry1989 eh? 22:13, 13 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I see know what you're wanting. That page just doesn't have it, I'll try searching some of the other signs to see if they do. Fry1989 eh? 18:34, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
None of the diagrams with the rounded arrows have the measurement, which is annoying, so what I did was download the PDF, take out the arrow and try my best to measure it. You can do that as well by going here and scrolling down to the design plan. The PDFs are very low-quality, the arrow is in pieces, but my best measurement guess would be a horizontal width being 25.6 units with the 32 unit height. Fry1989 eh? 21:17, 15 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Haha, I guess you've taken a look at the Philippine signs manual then? And yes it is annoying. The construction sheet for this sign has the height and width of the arrow you desire, but it is missing the radius for the arrow on the forward point. The construction sheet for the turn symbol on File:Australia road sign R2-6-RTA (R).svg also doesn't quite make sense either, some things from NSW are just off. I just do the best I can in those cases. Thanks for helping me though. Fry1989 eh? 03:24, 16 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
This is terribly annoying. I'm trying to find other manuals with similar arrows, maybe a different Australian state or something (I can access SA, WA, NT and Vic as well), but not really much luck. Fry1989 eh? 19:23, 20 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I guess we should scratch that arrow, eh? I'll try and borrow a similar arrow from somewhere else. I do have another one though with all the measurements you would need. Can also create the give way sign too? I can make the rest of the sign, but I need those two parts. If you can make them according to the W3-2A measurements please? You can just upload them over File:Test.svg and I can attribute you on File:Australia W3-2.svg when I put them all together. Fry1989 eh? 17:54, 6 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just a heads up, you can forget the arrow. I was able to figure that one out. The Give Way sign though is still beyond my abilities, when you have spare time. No rush. Fry1989 eh? 02:51, 17 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I uploaded it over File:Australia road sign W3-2.svg since the file already existed. It's up to you if you want File:Triangle and arrow for Yield Ahead sign.svg to stay or not, I see no harm in it staying and it may even be useful in the future. Right. I'm just trying to think of a name that doesn't suggest a level of officiality, since it is not a real road sign and just created for use in article dead end templates. I generally start uploading my restoration work at the point it's better than what's here. The border (a backing card) will get cropped as the restoration's LAST step.
