WLM 2013 in Thailand

[edit]

Hi Hdamm,

Thank you for signing up to help organise "Wiki loves monuments 2013 in Thailand." We are only one week away from the competition but we haven't had any confirmed juries or awards from any external partners we contacted.

There are several aspects that non-Thai speakers like you can help. w:th:วิกิพีเดีย:ศาลาชุมชน/อภิปราย/Wiki loves monuments 2013 in Thailand

  1. If you think you can be a jury or know someone who is willing to do the task, please let us know by signing up to be a jury section of the page.
  2. There is a ongoing discussion about jury tool on wikilovesmonuments@lists.wikimedia.org. If you know well about technical stuff and could help jury make use of it, that would be great. There are a number of other technical issues discussed in the list. We might have only a short period of time to get the Thai WLM up to date with the technology there.
  3. If you can provide some awards or know someone who is willing to do so, please put let us know in Prizes section of the page.

Hello Khun Taweetham. I don't know, what a jury would have to do. You know, I have only a limited knowledge of Thai language, so I don't know if I really could be a help in that section... --hdamm (talk) 08:24, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A jury = judge for the competition. The jury team will process all photos submitted and come up with 10 winning photos. There are three categories of judges (1) Photography experts (2) Monument experts and (3) Experienced Wikimedia volunteers. I haven't got anyone from the first two yet but for the third one I am inclined to fill the positions by non-Thai volunteers. --taweethaも (talk) 23:29, 25 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Khun Taweetham, so I understand that you would prefer Thai people for the judges???
If not – I would be interested to be a Monument judge (I'm just a hobby photographer, and I am a Wikimeda user but not a really experienced one). Maybe you want to have a look at my Thailand library or part of the pictures that I uploaded to Wikimedia - if that qualifies me for that position.

Sorry for late reply. As you have uploaded photos, our CoI policy prevents you from becoming a judge. But it's fine, you are eligible to win as a participant plus I will give some souvenirs as you have volunteered your time to create the map.
Can you tell us how did you add {{Cultural Heritage Thailand}} to your submissions? It is under {{Information}} template rather than in the description field of {{Information}}. This might be a bug that needs to be fixed... --taweethaも (talk) 08:00, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Khun Taweetham. I added {{Cultural Heritage Thailand}} manually, because the upload "wizard" didn't tell were it had to go. I shall move it to the right place now, so don't worry: no bug. --hdamm (talk) 09:05, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the information. --taweethaも (talk) 10:18, 3 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Renames need an evidence base

[edit]

You have a swag of rename requests, eg. File:Wat_Phra_Kaew_02.JPG for which you make claims without presenting evidence. So at this point in time, we have one person's suggestion (opinion) against the uploaders' opinions. Not a good basis on which to base a rename. Please explain the basis of the source for your rename requests. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 10:03, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I already changed the catogories for these files to Category:Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. If you compare e.g. File:Wat Phra Kaew 18.JPG with others within this cat., you'll see that its ok. Many of the depicted buildings, statues or plaques are unique to Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. If you can read Thai script, have a look at File:Wat Phra Kaew 4.JPG, there's even the name stated. (I must admit, though, that I had to make a guess at two of them.) --hdamm (talk) 10:31, 22 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Interwiki

[edit]

Hello. The interwikis directing to Wikipedias in categories are made simply with codes like this: [[en:NAME OF THE CATEGORY]]. We do not have to write sentences. Please have a look at this category for example. Best regards. BrightRaven (talk) 13:44, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is also mentioned here. Best regards, BrightRaven (talk) 13:49, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm fully aware of this fact. But a sentence just on top of the category page makes it easier for users to find additional information. Why, then, can you add a description to a category page? --hdamm (talk) 16:32, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Interwikis without sentences can be easily updated by bots. It is not the case of sentences. BrightRaven (talk) 07:46, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wat Ratchaburana

[edit]

Hello. Yes you are right: it is Wat Ratchaburana. I was misled by Google Maps, where this temple is named Wat Rat Praditthan (it can be an error of Google Maps or it can be an alternative name for the same temple). Thank you for noticing. Best regards, BrightRaven (talk) 07:16, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
