Request

Hi sir, can you please review my last uploads. this is my first time uploading from YouTube and i want to make sure i didn't make any mistake, Thank you.--Mojackjutaily (talk) 15:51, 18 December 2017 (UTC)

I checked one of your uploads from YouTube but it seems that all the others have already been checked by another reviewer Ibrahim.ID. De728631 (talk) 18:44, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
Not all of them, here the one he didn't check, 1 - 2 - 3 - 4. Do i have to ask reviewer to check my work every time i upload?. usually when i upload from Flicker, a bot automatically confirmed if it licensed under the terms.--Mojackjutaily (talk) 00:15, 31 December 2017 (UTC)
If you are uploading from YouTube, it is recommended that you use the LicenseReview template to have you uploads checked. Generally, when it is obvious that there is a free licence on the source page, you don't need to have your uploads checked, but if you have to click around or search the source website in order to find the licence statement, then it is a good idea to get a review for the upload. Request

Cany put in the Wikipedia articles the up to date file File:DEC31 World Time Zones.png whose title is not restricted according to a certain year, because many Wikipedia articles are using files that are restricted to a certain year and therefore are obsolete (unless these articles indicate the year of these files).

Here are the files that need to be replaced with the above mentioned file:

The reason I requested this because I live in Turkey, and Wikipedia is completely banned and blocked in Turkey by the Turkish government. If I lived in another country I could have replaced these files myself.

Thank you.

31.200.22.112 15:49, 1 January 2018 (UTC)

The pictures that are used on any Wikipedia version need to be discussed at that respective Wikipedia before they get replaced. So if a Wikipedia article is using an obsolete image file, it is the local community's task to replace the file. They may even decided not to do this, so I would rather not go ahead and single-handedly replace all these images. De728631 (talk) 15:42, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Files Deleted, although it was decided to be kept

Hello, could you help me please: a few days ago, all of my pictures have been deleted, although it was decided to be kept: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_Sunshine76

What went wrong?

Thank you, Claudia

Sunshine76 (talk) 05:52, 8 January 2018 (UTC)

Hello.

If you know how to edit and update SVG files, could you update the File:Daylight saving time in Asia.svg by coloring the whole of Cyprus in blue (because Northern Cyprus started to use DST again in November, after abolishing it for one year)? Could you also color all the islands of Russia, Japan and the Philippines in orange and all the islands of Indonesia in red (because they have been forgotten and appear in gray)? I don't know how to edit and upload SVG files myself. Source: https://www.timeanddate.com/news/time/

Kindest regards.

Maphobbyist (talk) 00:15, 5 January 2018 (UTC)

Done. That map needed a general overhaul anyway, and the recent change in Northern Cyprus now made the entire island a DST zone. De728631 (talk) 16:06, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
Thank you for your contribution. Maphobbyist (talk) 17:54, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
Hello. Forgive my impertinence, but all the Asian islands of Russia (east to the large Novaya Zemlya archipelago which is considered in Europe) on its north coast still appear in gray and need to be colored in orange. Can you color them please? Kindest regards. Maphobbyist (talk) 22:33, 8 January 2018 (UTC)
No problem, I've fixed this too. Since the continental European part of Russia (and Turkey for that matter) is also coloured I just coloured all the Russian islands. De728631 (talk) 16:53, 10 January 2018 (UTC)
Thank you. Maphobbyist (talk) 22:36, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

Hello.

Can you color all the ex-Soviet states in the same color as Russia (except the Baltic states and Moldova which were annexed by the Soviet Union in 1940 and were metricated in different years and which also need to be colored according to the year of metrication), because they were metricated in 1925 at the same time when they were part of the Soviet Union? Moldova was metricated in 1918 when it became part of Romania which was metricated in 1864, Estonia was metricated in 1929. I have not found the years of metrication for Latvia and Lithuania. Namibia needs to be colored the same as South Africa becasue it was metricated simultaneously with South Africa in 1971 when it was under its administration until 1990. South Sudan which is still missing in both maps needs to be included, and colored the same as Sudan, because it was metricated in 1954 when it was part of Sudan.

Thank you.

31.200.14.100 01:29, 19 December 2017 (UTC)

I'm sorry but there are so many update request for these maps that they need to be sorted one by one. The best way is to discuss such changes at the file talk page and provide reliable evidence for the year of metrication. De728631 (talk) 18:38, 29 December 2017 (UTC)
Hello.
Here is a source in Russian which I think is credible and which can be translated by a Google translator: http://www.krotov.info/history/11/1/kamenzeva_05.htm
Taking this source into account, can you color the ex-Soviet states (except Moldova and the Baltic states which were annexed in 1940) the same color as Russia, because the metric system was introduced by a decree of the Council of People’s Commissars of the RSFSR (which included the current ex-Soviet states except Moldova and Baltic states) on Sept. 14, 1918? The RSFSR was renamed the USSR in 1923 and the RSFSR became one of its members as a Union Republic. It was made mandatory for the USSR by a resolution of the Council of People’s Commissars of the USSR on July 21, 1925. And on April 16, 1927 other systems of measurements were prohibited for parallel usage, and the metric system became the sole system of measurement. When the metric reform in the USSR was completed, the Commission was abolished by the Decree of the Council of People's Commissars on March 15, 1928
Sources, let alone credible ones, are very difficult to find for individual countries about this topic. If you don't object, can I continue to request on this, if I manage to find any credible source about individual countries?
Thank you.
31.200.9.7 00:41, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
I see, thank you for providing the sources. However, this particular map has a very intricate colourbar, and I don't know how to pick the right shade of colour for the respective Baltic countries. I think your request would better be made at Commons:Graphic Lab/Map workshop where there are more experts around. De728631 (talk) 16:14, 6 January 2018 (UTC)
In File:World metrication.svg could you add a color bar, just like a registered user did in File:SI-metrication-world.png and uploaded a new version which he or she obviously copied from File:World metrication.svg? 31.200.22.139 11:15, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
I'm sorry but I don't know how to add this in SVG. De728631 (talk) 12:55, 27 January 2018 (UTC)
I understand. Thank you for your reply. 31.200.22.139 21:47, 27 January 2018 (UTC)

Help request

Hi dear administrator. Owing to some threatening messages I've just received recently. I would like to delete my own personal portrait from wikicommons. It would be nice of you if you do it for me. Thanks. TheStrayDog (talk) 20:35, 19 January 2018 (UTC)

COM:AN#DR closes

Hi De728631. I saw that you closed COM:AN#DR closes. I'm not saying the discussion shouldn't be closed, but I don't understand the reason you gave for closing it. The DR closes were reverted by Yann, but Fhsig13 then reverted Yann. Jcb then reverted Fhsig13 edits, and warned by them not to do such a thing again. Fhsig13 then began reverting Jcb and received a one week block as a result. An unblock request was subsequently made, but was declined by Magog the Ogre. So, that is where things stand at the moment, and I'm not sure what the connection of any of this is with Commons talk:WikiProject Heraldry. -- Marchjuly (talk) 23:35, 3 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi Marchjuly,
The DRs are not closed, and Fhsig13 is blocked. For me, the issue is closed. What reasons do you want? Regards, Yann (talk) 04:21, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
I was only asking why the close for Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive 67#DR closes by De728631 states "Since this is not an administrative issue,I have referred your request to Commons talk:WikiProject Heraldry." I'm not sure what WikiProject Heraldry has to do with with th AN discussion, Commons:Deletion requests/File:British Columbia Yellowhead Highway 16 3.png or Commons:Deletion requests/File:MSgt3.png. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:36, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
@Marchjuly: It looks like something got mangled there. Most likely because there was some footer or header template missing at AN during some archiving round. Actually my closing comments were made at the "Massively used coat of arms that is wrong" thread: [1] De728631 (talk) 12:41, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
I have fixed the closing comment in the archives and reposted the "DR closes" discussion at AN so it can be closed regularily. De728631 (talk) 13:04, 4 February 2018 (UTC)
Thanks for checking. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:29, 4 February 2018 (UTC)

Hello why all images deleted?

Hello, can you please restore all the files? I own 100 percent rights of all pictures. I took them myself. I have previously sent an email with owning rights to wiki.

All these mages have been published before without a free licence, and there is no obvious connection between your account at Wikimedia Commons and these photographs at other websites. E.g. File:Arsi Nami tux.png was published at Flickr with "all rights reserved" by a user called "Arsi Nami Fan Flickr page". In such cases we need a confirmation by email coming from the original photographer. Please see COM:OTRS for instructions. De728631 (talk) 04:53, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
Hello an email was sent with the ticket number : [Ticket#2018020810002062] please restore all the pics asap. Thank you (talk) 05:02, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
Thank you. If a free license has been sent to OTRS, then the image will be restored automatically when and if the e-mail is received, processed, and approved. Note that OTRS, like Commons, is entirely staffed by volunteers, and, also like Commons, is shorthanded, so it may be close to 29 days before the e-mail is processed and the image is restored. De728631 (talk) 05:04, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

How can I upload a temporary profile picture on the page without having it being deleted? 29 days is a long time and a permission was already sent a while ago. Can you please speed this up as the pictures shouldn't have been deleted (talk) 05:37, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

I'm sorry but you will have to wait like all other users at this project. I can't speed this up because these emails are being dealt with by a small team of volunteers with special confidential permissions. The queue there is already long enough, so even if you asked at the Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard‎, you would only be told to be patient. De728631 (talk) 05:43, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Can you at least help me/ allow me to upload a temporary headshot of Arsi Nami without it being deleted? (talk) 05:47, 8 February 2018 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Easyheartforyou (talk • contribs) 05:47, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

If you sent a permission email already a while ago, why did you not mark the relevant files with OTRS pending as is explained in the OTRS manual? Honestly, restoring your images right now would be unfair to all other uploaders who are waiting for their permission to be processed. So I'm not going to undelete any files where I don't even have proof that your email ticket is valid for them. As I wrote above, you may try to convince an OTRS agent at their noticeboard to speed things up, but I'm the wrong addressee in this matter. De728631 (talk) 05:55, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

I just uploaded a new one and marked it with OTRS pending as you stated. I have problems finding a way to add OTRS pending on the deleted pictures. Do I go to the talk page and click on the file names and add OTRS pending there? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Easyheartforyou (talk • contribs) 06:30, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Do not upload any of these images again! Doing so is a serious breach of our policy. They will be undeleted in due time if the permission email is valid. If you keep re-uploading any of these images your account will be blocked. As to the deleted images, you cannot add OTRS pending afterward. They have been deleted and the ticket will be assessed by our email team. So please drop the stick now and wait. De728631 (talk) 06:41, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Image deletion

Those are free videos at YouTube and do not hold any copyrights. U1Quattro (talk) 05:13, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

No, not at all. Just because they are at YouTube does not mean that these videos are not copyrighted. To the contrary: The "Standard YouTube License" indicated in the video description does not allow any free use of the video without consent from the copyright holder. Please see COM:WHERE#YouTube how to identify YouTube videos with a free licence. De728631 (talk) 05:17, 8 February 2018 (UTC)

Trainpix

I have undone the hiding of the Trainpix bucket category. If you insist on hiding it, I will not revert you twice as you are an administrator. I would instead have to create another bucket category that can stay unhidden as a bucket category with exactly the same contents, though you would probably want to hide that for the same (non-policy) reasons. If you can think of a way of stopping bots unnecessarily flagging the images as having no categories if this bucket category gets hidden, I would appreciate it. Thanks -- (talk) 17:54, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

@: No problem. I for one though would be happy for the bots flagging all these pics. "Category:Images from somepage" and the like are non-topical categories that do not provide any assistance to a specific search and do not aid navigation as categories should do – which makes them hideable in my book. As to policies, there is no requirement to hide bucket categories, but Commons:HIDDENCAT at least acknowledges it as a common practice. Apart from that, it is a long-standing practice for aircraft and ship categories at least to regard images as "unidentified" as long as the type or, even better, the name haven't been categorised. I'm not going to hide the category again, but I'd appreciate it if you at least added a default Category:Unidentified rail vehicles to your trainpix.org upload script. De728631 (talk) 18:10, 20 February 2018 (UTC)
That particular category would be incorrect as the photographs of trains have very good identification information, most of which I doubt we have specific categories for. The bucket category is already in a topical category. -- (talk) 18:16, 20 February 2018 (UTC)

The original source - http://bioguide.congress.gov/biosearch/biosearch.asp - I guess you mean this - does not show any image. Or which other source do you mean? --JuTa 01:36, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

De728631 (talk) 14:05, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
Das hat ich doch glatt übersehen. Dann sorry for the trouble. --JuTa 17:46, 26 February 2018 (UTC)
Geschenkt. De728631 (talk) 17:48, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

Again on PD-1996

Hi! I was wondering when URAA date applies. For instance, in Italy holds for works created by the Italian Government the Open by Default, i.e. applying by default CC BY license. In this case, URAA date doesn't matter, right? --Ruthven (msg) 09:16, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

@Ruthven: URAA applies only to works that were already in the public domain in their country of origin before 1996, but then got copyrighted retroactively in the US in 1996. So you're right that it has nothing to do with open government data where a free licence has been granted for using this data. De728631 (talk) 15:54, 4 March 2018 (UTC)

Annamaria Parente

Hi, De728631 (talk). I've received an informal authorization from the image owner to use on WikimediaCommon, how can I manage to include it in his wiki page?. Thaks for your support. --Nicola Caione (talk) 21:29, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

@Nicola Caione: Owning a physical copy of the image does not automatically transfer copyright to whoever owns the image. We need a permission sent by email coming directly from the copyright holder. In most cases this is the photographer, but if Mrs Parente has acquired the copyright along with the image we need a verification for this. Please see COM:OTRS for more information. De728631 (talk) 22:46, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi, De728631 (talk), I'll contact the image owner and ask for the written authorization. --Nicola Caione (talk) 11:03, 16 March 2018 (UTC)
@De728631: Hi, De728631 (talk), I've sent the permission request via the release generator found on the COM:OTRS web page. I hope now the copyright issue is solved and soon the image will be visible again --Nicola Caione (talk) 16:03, 16 March 2018 (UTC)

Work Life Balance

Hi, De728631 (talk). I've upladed a file 2 taken from from a website wich allow the redistribution via the CC-BY-SA 3.0 licence. I would avoid any issue, so please tell me, how can I manage to include it in lavoro agile wiki page?. Thaks for your support. --Nicola Caione (talk) 21:49, 14 March 2018 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but this seems to be a non-free image which does not fall under the generic CC-BY-SA-3.0 licence of the website. A larger non-free graphic was available online already in 2015, and I don't see how Pongovernance1420 would have gotten a free licence for anyone else to use this image. De728631 (talk) 23:07, 15 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi De728631 (talk), tahnks for the info I'll remove the image now. I've spoken to a pixabay admin that told me I can upload on commons.wikimedia.org pictures from that site because they are released as Public Domain under Creative Commons CC0. The picture I would use is: https://pixabay.com/it/portatile-caff%C3%A8-braccio-uomo-1205256/. --Nicola Caione (talk) 11:03, 16 March 2018 (UTC)
@Nicola Caione: Good idea. CC-0 from Pixabay is alright. De728631 (talk) 21:44, 18 March 2018 (UTC)

Arbalete

I'm writing to you because you're a sysop on commons. Can you please PLEASE take care of this report in "Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Vandalism"? I opened the same request in "Commons:Administrators' noticeboard" (Other) but it's been ignored for so long by sysops that a bot archieved it and the vandal I'd reported has waited for that to restart editing. I'm waiting for your intervention, thank you in advance! 2A01:7C8:AAAE:2B3:49DF:8C78:3C94:3FB 08:39, 21 March 2018 (UTC)

Notification of suspension

For overuse of deletions, you have made admin policy useful. Your access to administrator tools have been suspended for the 1st of April.

Best regards, Artix Kreiger (talk) 14:47, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

@Artix Kreiger: Oh dear, how am I supposed to delete all the April Fools Day jokes? As everybody knows, admins are notoriously grumpy and despise any form of humor, so jokes are considered vandalism. De728631 (talk) 16:25, 1 April 2018 (UTC)

De Havilland Canada DHC-8-400

I see that on a large number of these files you have deleted Category:Aircraft by registration and replaced it with Category:De Havilland Canada DHC-8-400 by registration (using tag-a-lot). This is not in line with normal practice. These files should in fact have both categories in place. This is the norm for every other aircraft type, as I understand it, to preserve Category:Aircraft by registration as a complete list of aircraft. Could you please revert your changes or preferably re-insert Category:Aircraft by registration in the files. Ardfern (talk) 09:53, 2 April 2018 (UTC)

@Ardfern: I'm sorry but you're wrong on this. Category:Aircraft by registration urgently needs some diffusion because it is overpopulated, and Category:De Havilland Canada DHC-8-400 by registration like other such categories is a subcategory of "Aircraft by registration". Per our category policy, overcategorisation occurs when an item is categorised into one category and one of its parent categories at the same time. This has to be avoided, and therefore aircraft should never be in the general "by registration" category and in a category for registration by type, too. De728631 (talk) 13:40, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
In the normal course of categorisation I would agree with you, but Category:Aircraft by registration (now with some 77k files), seems to have been deliberately left like this (at least over the 10 years I have been doing aircraft categorisation) so that you can see just how many aircraft registrations have been accumulated in total. I would suggest you take this up with the WikiProject Aviation people for discussion. I think it would need some agreement before such a long-standing category is diffused. Ardfern (talk) 16:23, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
The diffusion started the day the first subcategories by type were created. And I don't see how local consensus could possibly trump a Commons policy. If an exception to the rule were to be allowed it should be discussed at Commons talk:Categories. De728631 (talk) 16:28, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
I have now started a discussion at Commons talk:Categories and also notified the aviation project of it. De728631 (talk) 16:47, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
File:Bundesstraße 400 number.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

RegiowikiAT

De728631 (talk) 18:51, 1 May 2018 (UTC)

Die Argumente des Benutzers sind: "You cant be more knowledgeable then me about my own country." und "...just google world map in 1385." (Siehe: User talk:MateoKatanaCRO)

MFG, MateoKatanaCRO (talk) 16:19, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Hallo, MateoKatanaCRO. MFG, De728631 (talk) 16:40, 3 May 2018 (UTC)

Vielen Dank fuers lesen! --MateoKatanaCRO (talk) 11:38, 4 May 2018 (UTC)

Artix Kreiger

Hi, You where right with your initial block (which you self-reverted), see SPI case at enwiki. He edited commons with multiple ACC's. His current and active acc seems to be MechQuester. Looking at the block log, a indef. block is imho needed (playing the system). CC: @~riley: , Best --Steinsplitter (talk) 14:30, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) @Steinsplitter and ~riley: Your opinions are welcome at m:srg#Global lock for MechQuester.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 14:53, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
@Steinsplitter, ~riley, and Jeff G.: Artix Kreiger was locked globally today, so this issue has partly been resolved. Btw, the sockpuppetry of Artix Kreiger aka Winterysteppe is not logged in the SPI archive but I had to check Kreiger's block log at enwiki. De728631 (talk) 15:17, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
He has been locked upon self request, so he can tecnically request unlock (really unusual to luck users upon request). I don't like the fact, that the guy is abusing commons as his personal playground. :-) --Steinsplitter (talk) 15:20, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
Neither do I, but can we block MechQuester locally as a sockpuppet? A self-imposed block by Artix Kreiger would technically not be subject to sockpuppetry, or am I missing something? De728631 (talk) 15:26, 19 May 2018 (UTC)

Vorlage inlcoord

— Speravir – 18:56, 21 June 2018 (UTC)

Bengt Nyman

Hi De728631, Category:Ships by BN is supposed to be a user subcategory of Category:Photographs by Bengt Nyman. Maybe you can help me fix it. Bengt Nyman (talk) 14:53, 30 June 2018 (UTC)

Hi Bengt, it is already a subcategory but because "Category:Photographs by Bengt Nyman" is "hidden", the name at the bottom of the page is in small font unlike the regular categories. I just added a "hiddencat" template too for Ships by BN, so everything should be fine now. De728631 (talk) 14:58, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
Hi again. Unfortunately you have messed up hundreds of my files by removing Category:Photographs by Bengt Nyman. I want Photographs by Bengt Nyman as well as the subcategory under it to show under user categories. Please restore all. Bengt Nyman (talk) 15:11, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
I'm sorry but that practice should not be followed at all because it constitutes overcategorisation. Per our policies, files shall always be in the most specific category in a category tree, and not in one category (Ships by BN) and its parent category (Photographs by Bengt Nyman) at the same time. De728631 (talk) 15:20, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
Yes, that applies to general file categories, but need not be applied to hidden user categories which are for the benefit of the user organizing his work. Please leave my hidden user categories alone. Bengt Nyman (talk) 22:40, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
I have to disagree. Commons:Categories applies to all types of categories including user categories. They are explicitely mentioned in the "Major categories" section. Strictly speaking, it is even discouraged to create specific subcategories like "Ships by BN" (see Commons:User-specific galleries, templates and categories#Categories") but in your case I do find it useful and acceptable just because of the large number of ship photographs you use to provide. So, while user-specific categories should not be a part of the regular category tree, it is my understanding that they still need to be organised according to the same rules to avoid confusion by other users. You're welcome though to seek more opinions at the Village Pump or other venues. De728631 (talk) 14:21, 1 July 2018 (UTC)

Pre-uploads

Hi. Thanks for approving the deletions of the "pre-uploaded" files (I received permission to pre-upload historically important files and then immediately nominate them for deletion from another administrator, User:JuTa.). You marked them as deleted, and thank you, but for some reason, the ones marked as deleted are still on Commons, for example File:Мирослав Гермашевский, 1978.jpg from Commons:Deletion requests/File:Мирослав Гермашевский, 1978.jpg. Could you please double-check? Does the file appear deleted on your computer? I've restarted my computer and everthing but it is still there, and for copyright reasons I don't want it to remain there for long after being marked deleted. I appreciate your help since who knows if the everything from the online version of the Museum Catalog of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation or even webarchive will still be there in 2071. (By the way, is there any chance you would be willing to be pinged daily with a list of pre-uploads for deletion? I understand that some admins are quite busy.) Thank you, --PlanespotterA320 (talk) 17:59, 7 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi PlanespotterA320, these do not appear on my computer so I guess they're still in your cache. Try clearing the cache of your browser and the visit the pages again. De728631 (talk) 00:24, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
Nevermind. I recently added a speedydelete tag, and most of them are gone now.--PlanespotterA320 (talk) 00:27, 8 July 2018 (UTC)

Elska Magazine and "‪Copyright violations‬"

Hi there, I keep getting these deletions but I own the copyright of these photos and have repeatedly sent in permissions to use them, such as [Ticket#: 2018070910007118] and [Ticket#: 2018070910007047]. I assume that everything will be ok once these tickets are dealt with. Or is there something wrong with them? I don't get responses to any of the several tickets I've lodged besides the "confirmation of receipt" emails. Liamcampbell (talk) 14:13, 10 July 2018 (UTC)Liamcampbell

@Liamcampbell: Thank you for your response. Please do not reupload these images because they would only be deleted again for procedural reasons. They will eventually be restored automatically once your email tickets have been dealt with. Unfortunately our email department has a huge backlog of some 3 months since it's entirely run by volunteers. De728631 (talk) 14:19, 10 July 2018 (UTC)

User:Varavour mass uploaded many photos taken by Yemane Gebremeskel with false copyright information stating that the photos are in the public domain as their author is dead. This is a lie. I have tried to nominate File:JointDeclaration_2018.jpg for deletion since the photo is not in the public domain of Eritrea. The photo's author, Yemane Gebremeskel, is still alive. File:JointDeclaration_2018.jpg is under some protection and will need an administrator to nominate for deletion. Thank you. Turtlewong (talk) 02:57, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

This didn't work out I think. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 12:26, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

@Alexis Jazz: Yes, it did. This Flickr user was blacklisted for uploading works at Flickr that were clearly not his own. However, this file has the user's name in the exif. The bad author template does not mean that the file needs to get deleted automatically. Rather it is a not for reviewers to be extra careful when assessing the image and licence. See Commons:Questionable Flickr images: "It is not impossible that a Flickr user could have uploaded some images they took that they did have rights to, and some images from another source that they did not." In this case I don't have any doubt that it is an original work by this guy from Flickr. However, if you think it needs more scrutiny, please feel free to nominate the file for deletion. De728631 (talk) 13:18, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
Um, that's not what I meant.. Take a look at the page. You chose the wrong template. I support unblacklisting that Flickr user btw, I'm about to add my view to Commons:Categories for discussion/2017/09/Category:Photographs by Alan Levine. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 13:27, 11 July 2018 (UTC)
Ah, now I got it! Stupid template names... Thanks for pointing this out. De728631 (talk) 13:30, 11 July 2018 (UTC)

Freundliche Grüße --Uli Elch (talk) 10:37, 23 July 2018 (UTC)

Hallo Uli. Du kannst mal folgendes versuchen: Special:WantedCategories → 500 Ergebnisse anzeigen → im Browser suchen nach "aircraft" ohne Klammern → ggf. weiterblättern. Nr. 2492 z.
Special:Categories → 500 Ergebnisse anzeigen → Zeige Kategorien ab: D-
--Uli Elch (talk) 07:40, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

Deletion requests for "red" categories

Good morning again. I'd like to know how to insert a "speedy deletion" request into

Both do not have an "Edit" button. Thanks in advance - Best regards --Uli Elch (talk) 09:09, 24 July 2018 (UTC)

Guten Morgen.

Thanks for transferring my files

Hi, thanks for helping me out and transferring my images over to English wikipedia. I'm still a bit new to editing articles and I have never uploaded a picture on this site until this week. From what I understood from the tutorial I followed is that I had to upload the images here before moving them over to the Wikipedia page I wanted to add them in. Is there a different way to upload images other than having them go through here so that I can avoid this whole copyright ordeal thing again? Also, one of the images I uploaded was already replaced with a different image but with correct context of the image, which I was okay with not re-enabling it, which is I guess why you only had to move two of my images. Thank you again for helping me out. — Preceding unsigned comment added by SixOClockBoos (talk • contribs) 21:42, 26 July 2018 (UTC) -SixOClockBoos — Preceding unsigned comment added by SixOClockBoos (talk • contribs) 21:43, 26 July 2018 (UTC)

Viele Grüße --Uli Elch (talk) 14:31, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

When moving a category, move the content

You moved Category:Low wing monoplanes to Category:Low wing aircraft, but didn't move the content, leaving a bunch of items in a redirected category. Please clean up after a category move. Thanks! Josh (talk) 17:32, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

Well, technically you shouldn't have moved this page in the first place. Recategorising is done by creating a new page and then redirecting the old category. I can't see anything left in Category:Low wing monoplanes so in case you put the items back to Category:Low wing aircraft: thank you. De728631 (talk) 18:58, 31 July 2018 (UTC)

Do you know what you should do next? --Алый Король (talk) 09:05, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Yes, I know what to do. I'm going to point you to COM:UDR. I do see now that the file was actually released under a CC licence at Instagram, but with such snarky remarks as yours I'm not inclined to undelete this myself. We all make mistakes, and if you had simply asked me to restore the file, I would have done it. But this attitude of yours is just inappropriate – even if your upload was deleted. De728631 (talk) 09:51, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
Yes, of course, inappropriate, but is yours appropriate? You didnt spend even one second to open my user page and try to understand I am a vandal or an experienced user, didnt spend even two more seconds to ask me "I see black, but you are saying that is white, what is going on?" You didnt think about my emotions and deleted this file. so I didnt as well. --Алый Король (talk) 10:08, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
I did check your userpage and contributions and it made me wonder why you would upload a seemingly unfree image. Turelio, who tagged the file, is an experienced user and admin as well and I trust his judgement when it comes to copyright violations. Moreover, you could have objected to the speedy deletion by leaving a comment on the file's talk page, or by turning the speedy deletion template into a full deletion discussion. Anyhow, to save us both more bureaucratic acts, I have now restored the file. I really appreciate your contributions, but for such non-obvious licensings as chat streams, I would recommend that you leave a note in the summary where to find the free licence. That would help reviewers to verify the licence. De728631 (talk) 10:22, 9 August 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. Actually this deletion was really FAST (I really didn't have time for any reaction). Anyway, thanks for understanding. I will put a note next time. --Алый Король (talk) 10:57, 9 August 2018 (UTC)

Category:Coats of arms of families of England

Hi, you have moved some images from Category:Coats of arms of families of England to Category:Coats of arms of English nobility (for example Category:Herbert arms). This is a problem: Category:Coats of arms of families of England should be the top category. The nobility category is difficult as English gentry families enter and leave the nobility over time. Nobility may just be a temporary phenomenon for many gentry families. Thus the Category:Coats of arms of English nobility is problematical for English usage. I believe the German nobility is different as titles do not die out so easily as there is a true aristocracy, as opposed to the English system which is not a true aristocracy as only eldest sons are noble, their younger brothers are merely gentry. Therefore I suggest all members of Category:Coats of arms of English nobility should also appear in Category:Coats of arms of families of England. I would ideally like to see Category:Coats of arms of English nobility closed down. We need an all inclusive category which includes ALL English coats of arms. No English reference book of arms categorises by "nobility". Thanks.Lobsterthermidor (talk) 23:07, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

Hi, Lobsterthermidor. Thank you for clarifying this issue. You may want to start a dicussion at Commons talk:WikiProject Heraldry so there can be some sort of consensus on what to do. De728631 (talk) 13:48, 17 August 2018 (UTC)
Before I consider that, what is your opinion on my suggestion? Lobsterthermidor (talk) 11:23, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
Well, I wouldn't mind having only one central category like "Coats of arms of families of England". The nobility category could then be redirected. De728631 (talk) 14:09, 18 August 2018 (UTC)
I agree, I think that would be best. Gentry is the common factor in heraldry and there are hundreds of English gentry families which have had just one member ennobled, who died childless, maybe centuries ago. So which cat would those arms go in? So can we both start work on recategorising images back to the cat "Coats of arms of families of England", then adding a re-direct when completed? I don't think this is a controversial issue. Many thanks.Lobsterthermidor (talk) 11:54, 25 August 2018 (UTC)
Yes, this sounds like a plan. At the moment I'm pretty busy off-Wiki but I'll try to help out with the recatorizing. Let's put them all back to "Coats of arms of families of England". De728631 (talk) 20:32, 25 August 2018 (UTC)

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Un-coordinated category moves again

The very same user who has already been admonished by you not to continue with un-coordinated category moves, renaming and inventing shows being absolutely unimpressed by that. He had been advised "... you had quite a few discussions on this talk page where people complained about your introduction of new categories since they were not regarded as improvements."

For the latest actions like that, please see User talk:Joshbaumgartner, last three items, starting with "Layout clash ...". Additionally, he performed such moves like this one moving "aircraft of the US" to "aircraft from the US", which does not appear to make much sense from a linguistic point of view; it just creates hundreds of moves of connected files and sub-cats. Please be so kind and take care of that ever growing problem. Thank you. --Uli Elch (talk) 11:18, 20 August 2018 (UTC)

However, it is automatically redirecting and showing a weird logo (from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Rashtriya_Military_School_Chail_(crest).jpg) instead of that image. Would you know why? Wieder Ärger um US-Terminologie

Guten Morgen.

Hierzu hattest Du dies schon einmal geschrieben: "And "type" is the official ICAO designation for what may otherwise be called an aircraft model. Using "model" for general aircraft categories is problematic though, because it should only be used for categories of scale models. Hence the "by type" wording of the subcategories that was rightfully introduced by Uli Elch. De728631 (talk) 19:47, 5 April 2018 (UTC)".

Ich hatte ergänzt: See also Category:Models of aircraft sowie jetzt: "Please type in aircraft model in the English Wikipedia - and see what happens."
Viele Grüße --Uli Elch (talk) 10:26, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

While I'm inclined to close this as a keep per your rationale what do we do with the file information page? It can't stay in Category:Unsourced Flickr images checked by trusted user permanently but it also can't "officially" be license reviewed. I know we have flickr related tags when a license is changed but I don't see any if the source is gone. I'm also not really a fan of just removing the Flickr no source without something to put in it's place since that will just open the possibility for a repeat of this. Ideas? --Majora (talk) 17:11, 2 December 2018 (UTC)

@Majora: I think you can easily remove the Flickr no source tag and add a Kept at the talk page instead. This will link to the deletion discussion where points were made for keeping this image. De728631 (talk) 17:13, 2 December 2018 (UTC)
Looks like Jcb was faster. De728631 (talk) 01:23, 4 December 2018 (UTC)

This is how

Commons:Undeletion requests/Archive/2018-10#File:Walt Whitman - George Collins Cox.jpg

"how did it even get into this mass DR in the first place?!"

This is how. Several PD images were mentioned in the DR. The admin didn't do so much as lift a finger to repair any damage. Well I'm sure you remember, it was a big thread. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 08:51, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

While I don't remember the original DR thread, I'd say the damage was partially caused by you, too. Tossing 1.7k files from a broad search result into one DR will inevitably cause collateral damage. I don't agree with a lot of what Jcb is doing at Commons, but in this case I think he can't be blamed. The problem is that it would've taken ages to sift through all these uploads one by one and find any possible PD images. So dumping the whole lot into the waste bin was a practical solution, if not a pretty one. De728631 (talk) 19:09, 8 December 2018 (UTC)
All but 150 were categorized by the time the deletion hammer hit, including some categories for images that had to be deleted. I sank many hours of work into that. There was no reason to delete the whole DR. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 23:11, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

Petre Antonescu

Petre Antonescu died 1965. But here you have rejected me (double standard?). See also Category:Buildings by Petre Antonescu. --Turbojet (talk) 22:45, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

Double standards? Where and why? I don't see why you would reference a thread from half a year ago. Even more so since Jameslwoodward explained the situation there pretty well. De728631 (talk) 01:42, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
Both are about Romanian architects. If the image which was discussing was covered in Romanian legislation, not recognized by Jim, there is no justification for the images in the category Petre Antonescu. Yet they are preserved, and the one I have discussed not. This is the double standard of Commons administrators. --Turbojet (talk) 11:50, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
Then why don't you go ahead and nominate these other images for deletion? At the English Wikipedia there is a very informative essay on what not to do in a deletion discussion: WP:OTHERSTUFF and WP:ALLORNOTHING come to my mind. Moreover, I fail to see why you are now coming up with this argument when the undeletion discussion took place more than half a year ago. Anyhow, I have now started Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Accademia di Romania (Rome). De728631 (talk) 14:39, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
I am a simple user, I have to respect the policies only on the pictures uploaded by me. You are an administrator, you have the duty to enforce policy compliance throughout the whole project. Now that you know the situation with Petre Antonescu, if you do not do everything with your hand, I will maintain the view that you and Jim are applying a double standard. --Turbojet (talk) 15:14, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
Commons lives off its "simple users" as you call them, so yes, you can act here as well. We administrators have to deal with thousands of problematic images every day, and believe it or not, we do have a life outside of Commons. We're not here at a full-time job to fix up anything ar once that the community probably messed up. I only made comments in a case that was handled by another administrator and where several other editors contributed. So, honestly, your allegations of a double standard a few months after the case was decided are just lame. De728631 (talk) 15:23, 17 December 2018 (UTC)
That case was wrongly decided, but this is another discussion that I promised to resume, but the time has not come.
