Deleting images

Hi there,

Thanks for helping me categorise some of the Flickr images within Category:Photographs by NZ Car Freak. I have just spoken to the author on Flickr, and he has asked that some files of his private vehicle be deleted because he did not wish for those to be on Wikimedia. Are you able to facilitate this? It is just a handful of images out of the 2,000 uploaded, specifically:

Oh, I see, but I'm not an administrator at Commons, so I can't delete files over here. But what is more important is the fact that the photographer has released all those images under a Creative Commons licence. This is irrevocable and permits anyone to use the files anywhere — in short, he has no legal basis for claiming a removal of his photos. So anything we do would be a courtesy (and frankly if he doesn't want these particular images to be spread around he shouldn't have released them under a free licence in the first place). That aside, I don't see any difference between storing the files at Flickr or here. We could, however, blur the number plates and ask an admin to delete the previous upload or some such. If you think all these should be deleted please file a massed deletion discussion for them. De728631 (talk) 22:39, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
Ooops, sorry I saw the admin tag on your Commons page but didn't read the text properly about it being for Wikipedia. I understand that the licesning is irrevocable, but I emailed the Flickr user to relicense and he did, so I think a courtesy deletion of just those files above would be the right thing to do. Well, technically a relicensing won't work either because once you've released your photos on a CC licence this licence will remain valid for all times so any other licences applied afterwards are ineffective. Anyhow, a changing to (c) All rights reserved at Flickr might at least reduce the chance of these photos being spread any further. De728631 (talk) 22:54, 14 March 2015 (UTC)
I've just had a look at Commons:Courtesy deletions. You may tag these for speedy deletion and provide a reason like "Both original uploader and photographer request deletion". I'm sorry but Commons does not accept this kind of copyrighted non-free album artwork. You may upload it at certain local Wikipedias that allow for fair use, but Commons cannot host this file. Only the original artist and/or the record label can release this image under a free licence. Please note also that e.g. the English Wikipedia does already have a local copy. As far as I can see the Simple English Wikipedia does not allow fair use. I looked it up and I found a number of proposals there to introduce fair use but they were turned down because the concept is too complicated for its purpose or there was no manpower to review such uploads. That is not possible. "Wikipedia" comes in a variety of languages but not based on geography. Also, the very concept of Wikipedia is to provide as much information about as many topics as possible, and not limit itself to a special region. Apart from that, the Wikipedia subdomains are created by the Wikimedia Foundation and cannot be set up by users on their own.
You could of course create your own Wiki website using the Wikimedia software, but someone is even now using the name UKpedia for their blog, so that's already occupied either. De728631 (talk) 17:53, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Umm, you linked to the date page instead of any discussion, but I suppose you were referring to Commons:Deletion requests/File:Lighthouse big.jpg. I see that you have now deleted the file but I can still view the original upload log and the image in order to transfer it to the English Wikipedia. But please note also that there are still File:Lighthouse .jpg and File:2008-05-18 08 59 24 Iceland-Hvammstangi.jpg which were part of the same discussion. SC Group images permission

Hi. Sorry for my inexperience with publishing images! I was recently informed of several permission errors with images I have published.

I have been in contact with the image owners and they are more than happy to work with me to grant permission on all the images I've used. I will be submitting an email consent form to the SC Group tonight. In which case the consent form with all the images I've published, including the logo, should be emailed to Wikimedia tomorrow.

I got a bit confused as to when I should add the OTRS pending link. Sorry if I was a bit premature!

Hi there. Once you have sent the email to Wikimedia, please add the OTRS pending template to any file for which you requested a license from the SC Group. Their logo may even be too simple to be copyrighted but the threshold of originality is fairly low in the UK, so we might as well need SC's permission to use the logotype too.    The tins i upload are before 1930 and as i understood it therefore have no copyright anymore.    By the way, there is also the trademark added in case there should be a problem there, and multiple people who do deletion requests, generally told me that when it is trademarked, people who use this pictures for commercial purposes are warned to first make contact with the company if it still exists. It was not my intention to suggest i created the depicted picture, but that i took the foto.
Maybe i should have added that the object in question was puclished before 1923 and the author is unknown?
The companies themselfs do not excist anymore and the product is not produced anymore and i have consulted different collectors of which no one knows who created the image itself. For certainty i have added the trademark licence as well, just in case some licences may have been sold to other companies, so if someone wants to exploit the picture with the immage, he has to contact the companie in question anyway so Commons is not at risk her! If you think i need to add another licence, please let me know. If you want to delete the picture in question, please do so. I will upload it to Flickr then, so Commons is not at risk at all.

Das habe ich erst realisiert nachdem ich ersteren für 3 Tage gesperrt hatte. Thank you for your considerable help with regards to coats of arms & I am pleased we have reached accord and hope that at least some! of the information I provided is of future help to Commons. So as to avoid such licensing problems, it has been mentioned that requests for the drawing of coats of arms for Wiki purposes can be made. This sounds like a fail-safe way to proceed.

What I have in mind is whether the family arms of the Barons Mountevans qv. www.cracroftspeerage.co.uk could be drawn up? The 4th Lord Mountevans is of course the present Lord Mayor of London. Would this be possible and, if so, I suggest that only the shield needs depiction, namely: Argent two Bars wavy Azure between three Boars' Heads Sable; how to go about this? Many thanks.

@De728631: it is a joy to liaise with someone such as you who understands heraldry & your creation of the Campbell-Bannerman COA image is much appreciated. In the case of Andrew Bonar Law, although the peerage title of Baron Coleraine was created in his son's favour, I believe the former PM was armigerous so am looking to see if evidence of this can be evidenced from the internet, meantime qv. www.gov.uk indicating he didn't come from nothing (just died prematurely). There is a third file, the Star of Fëanor, that is a derivative a non-free work of Tolkien, by the same user. I'm not aware of the system of deletion of Commons, so I ask you directly. Hi Druth, I am aware of this file but in my opinion it is sufficiently different from Tolkien's original and also simple enough so that might not even by copyrightable. Oh, vielen Dank. Frankfurt-Bornheim hattest du übrigens in den Dateinamen geschrieben. Was mich allerdings gewundert hat, ist dieser noch in Berlin registrierte Bus, der dort in Frankfurt offenbar öfters unterwegs ist (Werbung). Hat man den in Berlin ausgeliehen? Stimmt, jetzt wo du es sagst ... Der Bus war vom 14.12. bis zum 19.12.2015 probeweise in Franfurt unterwegs (Pressemitteilung der Verkehrsgesellschaft traffiQ [[3]]). Er wurde am 20.12.2015 nach Aussage des Berliner Fahrers wieder nach Berlin überführt. Dort wird er von einem Verein betreut. Der Typ wurde von der BVG 2010 ausgemustert. Aha. Diese Doppeldecker sind zum Beispiel in der Altstadt wahrscheinlich auch einfacher zu handhaben als lange Gelenkbusse. De728631 (talk) 23:22, 26 December 2015 (UTC)
In der Altstadt verkehrt die Linie 34 nicht, wo dieser Test stattfand. Es handelt sich mehr um eine Ringbuslinie in den Außenbezirken. Allerdings gibt es dort enge Kurven, die nicht für längere Fahrzeuge geeignet sind und Haltestellen, die nicht für längere Fahrzeuge umgebaut werden können. At the English Wikipedia you can upload some low-resolution files locally with a fair use rationale. I.e. you need to explain why the particular image helps people understand a Wikipedia article and why it cannot be replaced with a free alternative. There is also a en:Template:Non-free use rationale video game screenshot which you can fill out and use on the file page at Wikipedia. Commons, however, does not accept fair use material.
