Sure. under the last photo, on the right, there's the small icon of the license. --Chiyako92 (talk) 15:35, 2 July 2014 (UTC)

OTRS permissions queues

Hello Rrburke. You are receiving this message as a license reviewer. As you know, OTRS processes a large amount of tickets relating to image releases (called "permissions"). As a license reviewer, you may have the skills necessary to contribute to this team. If you are interested in learning more about OTRS or to volunteer please visit Meta-Wiki. Tell your friends! Thank you. Rjd0060 18:52, 1 March 2015 (UTC)

OTRS needed?

You passed this image as freely licensed but it is from a Flickr user who happens to have the same name as the subject of the image and they has just one upload. I really think this is a case of needing an COM:OTRS verification. Your thoughts? Ww2censor (talk) 16:39, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi there. I presumed it was the uploader's Flickr account and that he was possible noteworthy and had uploaded a picture of himself. I can tag it OTRS if you think there's a problem -- or you can if you want. Rrburke (talk) 18:00, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
Thanks, I'm just not sure, but it looks a bit suspicious to me. I'll tag for deletion but requesting an OTRS for it to be kept. Ww2censor (talk) 18:26, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

File source is not properly indicated: File:05-7254-1 (Portraits) Lillian Dunlap, cropped.jpg

This image was cropped from another image : File:05-7254-1_(Portraits).jpg, which was confirmed by the bot FlickreviewR, it's under licence cc-by-2.0. Maybe I missed something but I don't understand why there is a problem. Best regards --Cbyd (talk) 20:57, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Hi there. When I viewed it, the image had no source information. The tag asserted the file was from Flickr, but there was no link and so no way to verify the source. The only source information was a link to a redlinked file. Rrburke (talk) 15:26, 13 March 2016 (UTC)

Ticket links

Hey, keep up the awesome work with OTRS!! We need more users like you. Could you do me a favor and use internal links for tickets instead of external? [[ticket:12345678910]] is preferred over [https://ticket.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketZoom;TicketID=123456 OTRS ticket 12345678910]. Just a friendly request, thanks again! Riley Huntley (talk) 04:23, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

Hi, @Riley Huntley: Thanks! And thanks for the pointer: I didn't know there was a way to use internal links to link to tickets. Cheers. --Rrburke (talk) 10:01, 28 April 2016 (UTC)

American Horse Shows et al

I'm on the road limited to cell phone and just saw your notices about the articles I uploaded (scans) from the AHS magazine and American Saddlebred Horse Magazine. I hope you'll take the time to check with permissions because as noted on the uploads the copyright holders have given permission under the proper licenses. I don't practice copy vio and always provide text permission with my uploads so please revert the notices. Atsme 📞 17:37, 1 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, @Atsme: I have now located the permission ticket for these files and have tagged them {{OTRS permission}}. However, the {{No permission}} tags weren't incorrect: the files had no evidence of permission and it's not really kosher to remove {{No permission}} tags when the issue is not resolved: a better approach is to tag the file {{subst:OP}} as soon as you have sent an email to OTRS. This will add a dated {{OTRS pending}} tag to the file so it won't be tagged {{No permission}}.
Incidentally, I noticed that File:1994ASHA-Article-Cover.jpg and File:1994ASHA-Article-Cover (cropped).jpg had no file descriptions, so I added an {{Information}} template to each so they won't be tagged {{nsd}} for lacking a source. --Rrburke (talk) 10:42, 2 May 2016 (UTC)

THANK YOU!! Atsme 📞 19:25, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi Rrburke, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

OTRS-related question

Hi Rrburke, I hope you are well. This is just a request, please feel free to say no! No pressure at all... I am asking you because you seem to be pretty thorough and patient with tickets, and are often willing to go the extra mile. I dealt with this ticket last year, and we were able to mostly satisfy the customer, but they have now come back with more. It is likely that a few more back and forths will be necessary, and the investment of time may not pay off... but that said, if I could ask you to look over ticket:2015092010009614 and tell me if you'd be willing to take it over, I'd be grateful. I don't have the time at the moment, and feel guilty just letting the ticket languish, or just releasing it since I'd prefer if it was dealt with by someone who has already demonstrated patience. Storkk (talk) 13:27, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, @Storkk: Thanks for your kind words. Undead zombie ticket alert! I read the ticket and presume the current issue is that the correspondent has forwarded the permission of the subject of the image and thinks this is sufficient, whereas we need either the permission of the photographer or evidence that the copyright was transferred to the State of Pennsylvania and of their willingness to publish it under a free license -- and there's little chance of obtaining either. The correspondent makes reference to the photo's being "cleared for publication" and appears to think that this resolves the copyright issue. What I'd plan to tell him is a) that "cleared for publication" ≠ PD and b) that the permission of the subject isn't material. He seems already to understand that we can't have fair use photos of living people.
There's also the issue of the scan's quality, which is pretty poor: it's dark, oversaturated and not centred, and poor Gov. Schweiker's right ear has been partly chopped off. But I suppose this is unnecessary to mention as it's mooted by the copyright issue.
Anyway, if you think I'm on the right track, go ahead and unlock the ticket and I'll respond to him, telling him you're currently unavailable. --Rrburke (talk) 14:28, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Thank you! I think it should probably be treated as a "permission from subject" issue, yes... although it seems possible that the subject owns the copyright (if it was a campaign photo done as a work for hire, for example), but it would need an explanation. Storkk (talk) 14:35, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
The correspondent thinks it was taken when the subject was Lieutenant Governor. It looks like an official portrait, and I found it on the web credited to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. --Rrburke (talk) 14:40, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
You're right (I didn't read the newest tickets attentively enough). Storkk (talk) 14:53, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Hi, @Storkk: Could you unlock the ticket so I can reply? Cheers. --Rrburke (talk) 10:34, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
Done. Thank you. Storkk (talk) 12:57, 14 May 2016 (UTC)
And done. No problem. --Rrburke (talk) 13:22, 14 May 2016 (UTC)

This file has two different sets of information and two different copyright tags. Which set of information is the correct one? --Stefan2 (talk) 11:21, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, @Stefan2: fixed. Thanks for the heads-up. --Rrburke (talk) 11:32, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

AWB for category changes

Hi, looking at diff, the edit comment is unenlightening, just saying 'adding cat using AWB'. Is there a way of getting a more meaningful edit comment, at least adding the name of the category? At the moment it's not possible to see what is happening via watchlists without clicking on links and leaving the watchlist. Thanks -- (talk) 16:08, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi, @: . I'm adding the category Category:Images by Ryan Hagerty and adding the license Template:FWS. I'll add that to the edit summary. --Rrburke (talk) 16:13, 22 May 2016 (UTC)
Thanks. I haven't used AWB for several years, so could not remember if this was an easy thing to do or not. -- (talk) 16:14, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Ein Herzliches Dankeschön für Deinen WLE-Beitrag 2016

Hallo Rrburke,

( Bernd Gross, 20:11, 23 July 2016 (UTC))

photos for John Burke (American Pianist)

Yes! I own those photos and hired the photographer myself. Taken in the summer of 2016 in Atlanta, GA. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Keys1cats (talk • contribs) 13:56, 09 December 2016 (UTC)

But do you own the reproduction rights to the photographs? Usually copyright remains with the photographer unless it has been transferred to someone else by operation of law or contract. Did you purchase the copyright at the time you commissioned the photographs?
Wikimedia Commons has to be extremely careful about copyright, and typically requires proof in the case of professional photos that an uploader owns the rights to the photo as well as the digital copy of the image itself. Please have a look at Commons:OTRS to see what is required in such cases. If there's anything you don't understand, drop me a note here so I can help. --Rrburke (talk) 14:10, 9 December 2016 (UTC)

How can you prove its your photo ? 124.189.229.239 23:58, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi. Is that you, Key1cats? At any rate, you can prove you own the rights to a photo a few ways. If you took the photo yourself, you simply state that in the file's information template. If it's by someone else, you either have that person contact us at permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with a release or, if you own the rights, scan a copy of the contract that signed over the rights to you and send it to us, also at permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. There's more detailed information at Commons:OTRS. Let me know if you need any more help. --Rrburke (talk) 11:16, 11 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi, Rebecca. I'm sorry the process is so cumbersome. Wikimedia Commons has to be extremely careful about copyright. Could you have your son send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with a statement of permission similar to the one set out at Commons:OTRS#Declaration of consent for all enquiries or composed using the interactive release generator at https://tools.wmflabs.org/relgen ? Please have him include the link https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:RB_in_Paris.jpg in the email so the reviewing agent will be able to locate the image in question.
If he also took the following images:
please include a mention of them in the email. Thanks very much! --Rrburke (talk) 14:32, 14 December 2016 (UTC)

Hello . I am so sorry to bother you yet again but I just cant understand any of this wiki commons thing at all . Im trying to get license for a photo as there is no photo at all now on my wiki page but finding it impossible . Again sorry to bother you but i need to get a photo up there . Cheers Rebecca

Hi, Rebecca. It's no bother. I'm happy to help. The next step is to have the author send an email with a statement of consent to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. The statement of consent should resemble the one set out at Commons:OTRS#Declaration of consent for all enquiries. Easier still is to use our interactive release generator at https://tools.wmflabs.org/relgen . This next step is important: make sure the author includes the text Ticket#2016121410004819 in the subject line of his or her email so it will be filed with your open ticket.
If there's anything you don't understand or if you run into difficulties, please let me know and I will sort it out. You can contact me here or by email. To send me an email, click the "Email this user" link on the left hand side of the page. --Rrburke (talk) 11:27, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Hello Rrburke, we are aware that using the old installation method of VFC (via common.js, which you are using) may not work reliably anymore and can break other scripts as well. A detailed explanation can be found here. Important: To prevent problems please remove the old VFC installation code from your common.js and instead enable the VFC gadget in your preferences. @Doctorsu: The copyright for the cover design/artwork of a book is owned by the publisher, not by the author. Additionally, you uploaded a scan of a copyrighted newspaper story claiming yourself as the copyright-holder, and when it was deleted as a copyright violation, you simply uploaded it again. Are you the owner of the Bangkok Post? As for the File:สนั่น ธรรมธิ.png, the photograph is obviously professionally produced and has no EXIF data. In light of your previous uploading of copyrighted material, I have sufficient doubt about its copyright status to recommend that it be deleted in accordance with the precautionary principle. --Rrburke (talk) 15:06, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Code issues in User:Rrburke/common.js

Hi Rrburke, I am a bored bot (this is kind of a computer program) that is watching the recent changes and tapping buttons like I did now.

Curious about the reason? Possibly not but I will tell you anyway:

  1. You edited User:Rrburke/common.js. Glad to see you coding in javascript! Have you ever considered becoming a MediaWiki hacker?
  2. Though, that change appears to introduce 1 new jshint issue — the page's status is now having warnings. Note that invalid or ambiguous code often has unwanted side effects like breaking other tools for you. If you cannot find out how to fix it, I suggest blanking the page for now.
  3. To help you understanding where the issues are, I have aggregated a report here and now. If you have questions, don't hesitate to ask users experienced in javascript writing for help. But do not ask the bot's operators (chronically overwrought) unless you suspect an error of mine. If you prefer not getting spammed by me, you can opt-out reports by adding {{ValidationOptOut|type=all}} to your user page or cmb-opt-out anywhere on your your global user page on Meta. Good luck at Wikimedia Commons and happy hacking!
  1. ISSUE: line 1 character 91: Script URL. - Evidence: mw.util.addPortletLink('p-tb', 'javascript:importScript("MediaWiki:VisualFileChange.js");', 'Perform batch task', 't-AjaxQuickDeleteOnDemand');

Cleveland Museum of Art

My first thought would be to do some complex searches and use Cat-a-lot.

For example, if you use the search string "egyptian" incategory:"Cleveland Museum of Art", you can then use Cat-a-lot to bulk-add items to Category:Egyptian antiquities in the Cleveland Museum of Art and remove them from category:Cleveland Museum of Art. If there are similar kinds of items, you can select again and add then add them to whatever category is appropiate. It might save you a lot of one-off work in Hot Cat. But this is going to be a lot of work anyway you slice it. Kudos for taking this on.

If I think of any other clever hacks for this, I'll let you know. - PKM (talk) 00:39, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi Rrburke, thanks for helping out with the Cleveland Museum of Art. I did a bit of clean up for the Cleveland Museum of Art:
Now Category:Collections of the Cleveland Museum of Art is somewhat overflowing. I'll use a robot to move some of the big chunks, but could use a hand sorting it out. Multichill (talk) 14:40, 17 February 2019 (UTC)
Hi, @Multichill: . Sure thing! Thanks for all your work! Rrburke (talk) 17:56, 17 February 2019 (UTC)

Status of the uploaded photos

Hello Rrburke,

Recently you wrote on my page that the pictures that I uploaded may be deleted due to uncertain copyright status of them. I can say with 100% certainty that there are no copyright issues with them. I've downloaded them from various Russian WW2 websites that are available to the user and allows to download pictures from their site under free licence. Therefore, there are no copyright issues related to those pictures and they should be kept. If no, then what's the point in uploading pictures that are under free license if everything is listed as copyright violation?

Sincerely,

tai3chinirv7ana — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tai3chinirv7ana (talk • contribs) 17:39, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

@Tai3chinirv7ana: When you uploaded each of these photos, you identified them as your own work. "Own work" means pretty much what it sounds like, namely that you are the photographer. Now you’re telling me you downloaded them from various websites. Which is it? And if you’re not claiming to be the photographer, why would you choose the option that identifies the photos as your own work?
And by the way, the fact that they are hosted by a bunch of random Russian websites tells us absolutely nothing about their copyright status. Please see Commons:Licensing for more information about the suitability of files uploaded to Commons. —Rrburke (talk) 18:38, 6 May 2019 (UTC)

Wikimedia Commons solo acepta obras libres.
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wolfine_saludos.jpg
—Rrburke (talk) 18:26, 13 May 2019 (UTC)
Hola, Rrburke.
--Gusama Romero </talk> 08:17, 15 May 2019 (UTC)

@Xoaw: Paciencia por favor. —Rrburke (talk) 23:56, 21 May 2019 (UTC)

—Rrburke (talk) 20:01, 22 May 2019 (UTC)

Cal Barnes related photos clearance

Hi, Rrburke. I contacted all three parties -- Melissa Diaz, Dillard Okray, and Magic Hour Press -- and they all agreed to provide clearance and said they sent clearance emails to the wikipedia commons email listed above. Please let me know if you can connects the dots and can stop the deletion process and keep the photos in the commons. Thank you. CalBarnes1 (talk) 9 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi, @CalBarnes1: Looks like someone has already handled the novel cover, but I retagged the other two. Like the rest of Commons, OTRS is run by volunteers, and the backlog can be quite long. Don’t fret if you don’t see progress. The files should be safe now. —Rrburke (talk) 01:21, 10 September 2019 (UTC)

Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

File:Bright Light at Russell's Corners by George Ault (1946).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

September 2021: it's Wiki Loves Monuments time again!

Hi

You're receiving this message because you've previously contributed to the annual Wiki Loves Monuments contest in Ireland. We'd be delighted if you would enter again this year, and continue to build on the image archive of Ireland's built heritage.

You can find more details at the Wiki Loves Monuments Ireland website. If you have images taken in other countries, you can check the international options. Once again, this year's contest runs until 30 September 2021.

Thanks again for your help and enthusiasm! Smirkybec (talk) 04:40, 11 September 2021 (UTC)

I am sorry that I am having trouble communicating with you in an efficient way. You contacted me because a photo on my page is nominated for deletion as it is suspected as copyrighted. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. But there are no copyright issues. I own the photo and it is housed on my website. I use the photos on my website for social media and they are available to the media. Please email me if there are any further questions. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 100.14.220.89 (talk) 19:46, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

I am reading some of the other talk topics and it looks like more info might be needed: I took this photo (among others) with the help of a tripod and a handy neighbor (who also did my hair). Then, I have a small village that helps me photoshop. Does this help? — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 100.14.220.89 (talk) 19:48, 22 December 2016 (UTC)

Photo permit

Dear Rrburke,

The photos sources are come from HKJC.com, basically I am on behalf of HKJC to upload those visuals to wikipedia under free license. About this issue, I have already told to one of wikipedia representative, he named Chris Brown. And he helped to made the necessary adjustments to all the files. So there are no license problems here, I could share the relevant documents or email if needed.

Thanks, Chris — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chriskichau (talk • contribs)

Wiki Loves Earth 2017

Hallo Rrburke,

Cal Barnes related photos clearance

Hi, Rrburke. Thanks for the response. I can clear this up. For File:Barnes attends the Adolescence Premiere.jpg I purchased this photo from Melissa Diaz for use. I, Cal Barnes, am also the subject of the photo and I release my name and likeness for this photo for wikipedia creative commons use for my wikipedia page.

For File:True Grandeur Original Novel Cover.jpg I am the author and own the copyrights to the book and cover art for the novel. I published with Magic Hour Press, but the copyrights with my creative work stays with me. As the publisher, if you need Magic Hour Press to sign off on this image I can easily contact them and they will do it.

For File:Cal Barnes in Hollywood, CA.jpg I am the copyright holder of this image. I am the subject of the image and paid for the equipment the image was shot on. I just had my friend, Dillard Okray, shoot it for me. He's not a professional photographer. Please let me know if you can clear these images with the above information. Thank you.
