Amides and category names[edit]

Leaving aside [[the question of whether the amides are primary, secondary, or tertiary, please note that the category name is misspelled: it should be "substituted", not "substitued" (which feels like a compromise between the English and French spellings: ("substitué" + "substituted") / 2 = substitued?))

I've spoken to an admin, who says that he's not willing to implement the automatic changing of all relevant category tags to correct that error for as long as the issue may be controversial.

I politely request that you post on that discussion page and assent to at least having the spelling error corrected. DS (talk) 14:01, 25 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Chemical structure and Organic compounds[edit]

I see from your contributions that you moved a lot of images from Category:Chemical structures to Category:Organic compounds (example [1]). It is fine to put these files in Category:Organic compounds, but you have to leave them in Category:Chemical structures, too, because these two categories are independent. --Daniele Pugliesi (talk) 02:47, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Chemical structures should only contain subcategories, not files. --Leyo 20:33, 27 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I strongly agree with Leyo. Category:Chemical structures is a supercategory that should only contain subcategories. Rhadamante (talk) 04:46, 28 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oxazolidinones as carbamates[edit]

Looks like I was too focused on the oxazolidin-2-one‎ isomer:( Should Category:Oxazolidinones be diffused into -2- (subcat of Category:Carbamates), -4- (subcat of Category:Gamma-lactams), and -5- (subcat of Category:Gamma-lactones) subcats? That is, split it up among the various isomers File:Oxazolidinones.png of the general ring. DMacks (talk) 12:49, 13 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@DMacks: That's one solution, and probably, on the long term, the best. Another would be to let all these files in Oxazolidinones, and cross-categorize in the pertinent categories (carbamates/gamma-lactones) the adequate files, independently. But I have the feeling the first solution fits best the "Common's categorization optics", meaning multiple ultra-specialized sub-categories instead of cross-categorization. Former states and their successors[edit]

Hi. Thanks for creating the Category:Ambassadors of the Ottoman Empire to France. It attracted my attention how you constructed it, by using a red link to Category:Relations of France and the Ottoman Empire instead of Category:Relations of France and Turkey. I think the "former country" is valid only for Turks but not for the French who have set up various kingdoms, empires and republics in the same time period; they are always "France" (?). If you make a visit to Ankara I may show you many state institutions (of the Republic of Turkey) with sign boards on their entrance saying "Established in 1866" etc. Also you can see how many institutions of Turkey celebrate their 150th anniversary, etc, while the Turkish Republic is not yet 100 years old. (See, for instance, https://www.sayistay.gov.tr/en/?p=2&CategoryId=10) I'm sure you understand me. Cheers. --E4024 (talk) 08:41, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@E4024: Hi, it's always tricky dealing with ancient countries, or countries which existed under different names/forms in the history. You point the fact of how are treated differently France in Turkey on the matter. Not necessarily. I mean, in this situation, the one with the different treatment here is France, because France is maybe one of the few exception in the world (with some countries like Japan) with some sort of continuum (in name/territory, etc) for at least a thousand years (maybe less for France, it officially exists on the paper since 843, but in the reality, as a country of the whole, probably not before the end of the Hundred Years' War). England exists since the ~1000s, but changed to become the Kingdom of Great Britain (1707) when it "merged" with Scotland, and then the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1801. Germany, as a country, didn't exist before 1870. Italy before 1860. Spain before the ~15th century. Russia existed as a country since the ~16th century, but disappeared in the Soviet Union in 1917, an reappeared as Russia in 1991. Long story short, I try to respect this historic reality and avoid anachronisms as much as I can (but it's always tricky). On the matter of Turkey/Ottoman Empire, I don't pretend to be a specialist, and I may be wrong, but Turkey is not the Ottoman Empire. It's a big part of it, its major heir, but not it. And on this point, it seems the difference between the two entities as been placed in 1919 (as much for the difference between Austria and the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918), as the empire ceased to exist as this date, and was broken up in several countries, one of them being Turkey (and again, the same happened to the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1918).
And back to the categories, you can see that I did the same thing with the OE/Turkey than with England/Great Britain/UK. Rhadamante (talk) 18:37, 26 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
When you have a chance to visit Vienna go to see the Turkish Embassy, which is a palace. At the outer gate you will see a sign board (plaquette) saying it was bought during the reign of Sultan Mehmed V (Reshad) in 1915. This signboard was hanged there in late Republican (Turkish Republic) times. You can see at the Ambassador's office walls the pictures of all "Turkish" Ambassadors to Austria (Austrian Empire, Austria-Hungary whatsoever) from the very first Ottoman envoy to current days. The same is valid for our Embassy residence, a palacette (Hôtel de Lamballe) in Paris. Been there, seen that. Let me also give you an "official" link for the list of Turkish Ambassadors to Paris since 1797, as our case was Turco-French relations. Best. --E4024 (talk) 07:36, 27 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Sportspeople by continent[edit]

Hi. I believe continent templates you add to sportspeople cats should consider the "Federation" to which the country belongs and not the geographical facts. For example Cyprus is an island belonging to Asia Minor but they participate in European Federations and their activities. IMHO, either we should limit these continent templates to Federation affiliation as I suggest above, or add all transcontinental countries to more than one continent, so there will not be a double standard. For example, You should add Spain cats to Africa, as only the Canary Islands have an area of 7.493 km² on that continent, even if you ignore the two cities of Spain in Northern Africa. (Of course we can ignore the small islands there which do not have permanent civilian settlement.) If you make a comparison with the area of the Canary Islands to smaller countries from Africa or Europe you will be surprised that they are larger than many countries in one or the other continent. All the best. --E4024 (talk) 07:18, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@E4024: The problem is, I use what already exists (I try to avoid as much as possible to put my hands inside templates on Commons). And for instance, for now, the few templates available are mostly the geographical ones; templates such as Template:UEFA member associations are fairly recent and 1) have the disadvantage to not be auto-translated, as Template:Countries of Europe is, 2) are currently only available for Europe (UEFA), Asia (AFC) and South America (CONMEBOL) 3) for as far as I know, only work for football (soccer). So for now, I will keep using the geographical templates, for lack of a proper alternative (and honestly, it is far less annoying to use the same template everywhere). Regarding the multi-continent countries, I think we agree the problem is not Spain, or Cyprus (which is geographically in Asia Minor, but politically, economically and many other -ly in Europe, as a member of the EU for instance) - or even France, which has literately territories on all the continents, expect Asia - but countries at (or considered at) the edge of Asia/Europe (Turkey, Georgia, Russia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, etc.). For those, I have no problem on just keeping the geographical template relative to their actual sportive federation (ie Europe); but the problem will arise specifically for Israel, which is not on the European geographical template, but is European for sport relative matters (at least for soccer). (TPS) Yesterday I was going to write at that CfD "close this discussion if consensus have been reached at etc" but some browser problem impeded me and I avoided insisting. Now that I see what you say, I'm afraid we don't use well enough the discussion method in Commons. Some discussions continue forever without reaching a common point and others just wait for participants... Sorry to interrupt. Best. --E4024 (talk) 09:52, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@E4024: I agree that discussions could be managed better and that there often aren't enough participants. I have no objection to the cfd being closed if you think there's been enough discussion, I just think it shouldn't be acted on until it closes. --Auntof6 (talk) 17:49, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Auntof6 and E4024: Well 1) it was something I was waiting for a long time, ie correcting the discrepancy between men/male and women/female categories (~95% of "men categories" were "male sportspeople", almost 100% "women categories" were "sportswomen") and something that pissed me off when I created new categories (but I followed that implicit rule) 2) I saw some re-namings in my watchlist, a few days old 3) I looked to see if there was a discussion about it a found the CfD 4) I saw everyone there agreed and no one posted anything in the last 4 days 5) this + the already existent renamings = I've been bold, even if it is not a guideline here. And when I see CFDs were everyone agreed 1 year ago and nothing has been done yet, sometimes I wish it was... Rhadamante (talk) 19:25, 24 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Auntof, no, I did not think that the discussion was enough. You did not see the "etc" part I had in mind. I was also caught between using my lousy English or my worse Nabolidano in the discussion. Frankly I wish we had only a women cat for all "human females" (sic). Imagine some guy disturbing an attractive woman whose age he cannot imagine: "What a charming human female you are!" :) In this sense I like the use of Spanish I've seen in some countries: "Escuela de mujeres"; and you look into the backyard, the average age of the students playing there is 8 or 9... On the other hand, just as we have Category:Businesswomen I would like to have a "Category:Businessmen" and keep Category:Businesspeople only as a "common ceiling". (Thank God we don't have Category:Business girls or Category:Business old women, or do we? I'm afraid to use the brackets and see we might really have them! :) Take care, both. --E4024 (talk) 06:58, 25 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Xavier Dugoin[edit]

Bonjour

Cordialement, --Poudou99 (talk) 01:57, 26 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Volcanoes by country category hierarchy[edit]

Hello Rhadamante,
you appear to have recently moved many volcanoe categories from a name with "Volcanoes of..." to "Volcanoes in...". For me it seems to be more appropriate to name the categories "Volcanoes of ...". This naming scheme is quite common for categories regarding geographical objects. For example: Category:Landforms of the United States‎, Category:Shorelines of the United States‎, Category:Mountains of the United States and many more. It also makes sense for me since such landforms are quite unlikely to change their location. However, if there was a community discussion with an agreement prior to this mass rename operation I would agree with that but I can't find one. Can you help me on that? Yours sincerely --Zaccarias (talk) 09:43, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Döderlein portrait[edit]

Hi Rhadamante, when I uploaded Döderlein's portrait, I gave that file a name that explicitely mentioned the source of the portrait, and the date it was published. I'm quite convinced this is not only relevant information, but it will surely help when more portraits of Döderlein will become available in the public domain, to distinguish between them. I cannot see a single reason why this file would have to be renamed, and yet this is what you did today.

Information on the subject of a file should not only be hidden in the description page: file names should be as descriptive as possible too, especially when one can expect more files of the same kind to exist or to be uploaded in the near future. I therefore undid your edit, and reverted the file name to the one I originally very deliberately gave. I expect you to leave the name as it is now. categories for deaths in US states by county[edit]

Would you please explain your recent changes to these categories, such as this one? You removed the metacat template, but these categories are metacats and should have the template. Thanks. --Auntof6 (talk) 20:09, 29 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This template is absurdly large and ugly, for an almost zero added value (wah, this is a meta category, thanks for stating the obvious. And given that you put categories on another category or file, you'll never see the big ugly warning sign saying that you should only put the designated subcats in this cat. The only extra added is the automatic addition of the hidden "meta categories", a +100k category. So useful.). Rhadamante (talk) 00:08, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That's a discussion that should take place at a higher level. The categories do get added to that big category, but they also get added so smaller categories such as Category:Categories by county (flat list), which some people presumably find useful. It's one thing not to put the template on a category, but quite another to remove it when it's already there. You might not like it, but that's a procedure here. I put the metacat back on the ones for births and deaths. Please don't remove any more. --Auntof6 (talk) 00:46, 30 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removing links and sort[edit]

Was this an accident? —Justin (koavf)TCM 20:00, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Koavf: Nope. All these functions are taken care of by the Wikidata Infobox. Links are already there via the interwikis and the link in the box (automatically to the article of the wikipedia in the language chosen in the commons interface, by default to the english wikipedia). Models with static links are therefore useless, and outdated (as no bot updates them anymore, any change change in any project will not be reflected here, and thus can make them obsolete). In this very example, there are only 6 links in the static box (en:, de:, es:, fr:, ja:, and hi:), while it exists 10 versions in the different wp, as there are now also articles in he:, it:, ru: and zh:. These 10 links are already generated via the interwiki, and will always be automatically updated.
The same goes for the sort function, it's already taken care of by the box & Wikidata (sometimes with a small delay). Rhadamante (talk) 20:09, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, the same goes also for some regular categories (people by name, men/women by name, years of birth/death, given name/surname (if the categories exist)). Rhadamante (talk) 20:35, 13 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox Wikidata[edit]

Bonjour Rhadamante,
Cf.
Cordialement, Jgui (talk) 09:24, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Paul Bennet[edit]

I see that you have extracted an image File:Paul Bennett. 2016.JPG from File:Ruder-EM 2016 66.JPG. I suspect that he not Paul Bennett but Andrew Triggs Hodge. Paul Bennett is the very tall person (six feet nine) who tied his hair in a top knot as can be seen here - [4]. Hzh (talk) 12:21, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yep. Corrected. Thanks. Rhadamante (talk) 17:52, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Filter[edit]

Hi! Your filter trouble earlier was my fault. One of the abuse filters didn't work correctly. Should work now. Sorry! --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 07:50, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Hedwig in Washington: Thank for dealing he matter so quickly. But please be extremely careful when dealing with filters 1) blocking 2) private. At the very lest, discriminate so it only works on namespace 0 , 6 and 14, if it is aimed to block common vandalism. Rhadamante (talk) 18:41, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I watched the filter for two+ hours after it went live, no problems. When I go to sleep the filter throws a tantrum. How could it be any different? I will have the filter logging only for some time. Again, my apologies and thanks for being so nice about it. --Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 22:59, 19 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, would you please be so kind to add new categories not here but to Category:Male names or Category:Female names or even both. Thx. --JuTa 01:14, 22 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Rhadamante: since you were the uploader of this file, I was wondering if you could take a closer look at it and add the infobox. Thank you for your time. Lotje (talk) 07:47, 24 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

category edit warring[edit]

please do not edit war with me. further diffusion of categories with respect to gender, does not have a consensus. see also Commons:Village_pump/Archive/2018/11#Gender. Slowking4 § Sander.v.Ginkel's revenge 22:44, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Slowking4: then don't remove pertinent categories at the same time. That's just vandalism. Rhadamante (talk) 22:48, 25 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Slowking4: by the way, if you're not happy with "splitters" as you call them, you've got a tool : cfd on the gendered categories. Rollbacking without giving any reason (it took at least 3 reverts from you to just getting anything else than revert without any comment, and "else" is just pointing a vague discussion between four persons 6 months ago), as you did, is, again, just plain vandalism. Noms des sous-catégories des dèmes[edit]

Salut.

Donc, soit "Populated places in the municipality of Nafplio", soit "Populated places in Nafplio municipality". Qu'en penses-tu?--Phso2 (talk) 09:27, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Rhadamante (talk) 16:05, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
OK si c'est que ça je vais m'en charger.--Phso2 (talk) 18:31, 5 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Gendering, and mis-gendering[edit]

This is a perfect example of why I don't like people breaking down categories by gender. I am 100% sure this person does not identify as male, 99% sure she identifies as female. What is your basis to say "male"? That she doesn't look feminine? - Jmabel ! talk 03:09, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, how did you make this assumption, only based on looks? I'm asking to double-check whether the person is for some reason marked as male somewhere – that would need to be fixed. Gikü (talk) 09:05, 30 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Important message for file movers[edit]

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Mendoza[edit]

-- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 17:03, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

-- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 18:04, 11 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks![edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Hi[edit]

Thanks for your contr's to Category:Births in (Turkish cities). I have no idea if you are already doing that, but, if not, can you also give a hand at WD so that when we link people there, their birth places also appear here... Thanks a lot and in advance. --E4024 (talk) 23:05, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@E4024: Hi, what do you mean exactly by "at WD"? For now I link the new categories - and the few one that were not connected - to their equivalents on wikpedias (fr: being quite exhaustive on the matter - seems ru: also is, but if I can decipher Cyrillic alphabet, I don't really speak russian...-, but that's about it. I could add the wikidata infobox, but I think a bot already does that. Rhadamante (talk) 23:30, 25 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmm. I see that you know less about these things than me. :) Now going over Category:Births in Kars that you just edited: Take Category:Kelime Çetinkaya, she appears in Category:Births in Kars because I added it to her cat. OTOH (On the other hand) her birth year is there without anyone adding it by hand. Because that cat comes from WD while "Births in Kars" does not. To see this better you should touch the "edit" button on her cat; you will see that her birth year category is NOT there. Look at many people cats, they seem to have given and surname cats, but if you touch the "edit" thingy, you will not see those cats, because they all come from WD. (A good number of them made by me, only today I made a few dozens. :) I was asking you if you knew how to do the same (not here but in WD) about birth places. Thanks anyway and take care. --E4024 (talk) 01:52, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@E4024: ah, that. No, I'm well aware about that. It's the Wikidata Infobox that transfer various information (date of birth/deaths, gender - under the form of "men/women by name -, first/last name (it also use it as sorting key), and some awards), but not the place of birth/death, yet. I guess that's because before I started to wildly expand these categories three years ago (and some others after that), they were practically nonexistent, or extremely limited, to some countries (e.g. France, Iran, Turkey, Ukraine, Poland...). To add it, I guess you have to ask the creator on the template talk page. In the mean time, if you want to import en masse these categories from WD, you can use tools such as quickcategories. Rhadamante (talk) 02:47, 26 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Deadstar: That's usually what is done (delete empty categories). But for the matter, it's a category of an alive person with an article on en.wp. I'm not hopeless that one can find free license picture of him, for instance on some flickr channel. In that eventuality, the category is all set and ready. Rhadamante (talk) 16:50, 20 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
So leave it for the moment? (TBH, I normally don't hesitate nominating empty cats for deletion, but in this case I thought it maybe wiser to ask.) There is a Richard Greene disambiguation that can signpost it. -- Deadstar (msg) 08:32, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

United States Senators[edit]

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:Democratic%20Party%20United_States_Senators&action=history: was there any discussion of this? As a native English speaker and U.S. citizen, I'd usually consider "United States Senator" a proper-noun phrase, not a common-noun phrase, and therefore capitalized throughout. I know there is not 100% agreement on this in different style guides, but I think it runs over 75% to the way it was, not the way you just made it. At a quick glance, a Google search on "United States Senator" seems to confirm my impression. - Jmabel ! talk 04:12, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmabel: Well, this is the choice the English-speaking Wikipedia made (e.g. List of current United States senators, or Category:United States senators and all its subcategories) ; and I don't see how "senator" can't be precisely a common noun, as we talk as senators in the very general sense, not one in particular who we would address through their title. Rhadamante (talk) 04:32, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Then I think en-wiki made a poor choice, but I will accept that as at least strongly suggestive for Commons (unless this was a recent change by a non-native speaker, or an arbitrary recent choice against a longstanding consensus). Of course "senator" is a common noun, but as I said anove, I consider "United States Senator" a proper-noun phrase, just like "state" is a common noun, but "United States" is proper-noun phrase. No one would write "United states" (lower-case 's'): it is totally normal for a proper-noun phrase to be made up of a series of adjectives and common nouns, which are capitalized within the proper-noun phrase. - Jmabel ! talk 04:48, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We need your feedback![edit]

Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!

I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.

We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.

Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.

Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.

Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:56, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:Robin Swann in Stormont (cropped).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Emer Costello, Member of European Parliament for Labour and the Socialists and Democrats.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Original uploader's crop[edit]

Hello,

About File:Gérard Meister 1912.jpg, I cropped the HD image by reproducing the dimensions of the original uploader's crop. -- Le Petit Chat (talk) 13:59, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

No, you cropped to reproduce the dimensions of the file the original uploader cropped himself, in a second time, after uplaoding the orignal file. We need to keep the original file that is nowhere else on Commons, and have the cropped file in a different file. Rhadamante (talk) 14:02, 23 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Faculty of the Faculté des sciences de Paris: Revision history[edit]

Hi, (first thought) please put in that page a simple explanation of what a "Faculté de la Faculté des sciences" can possibly mean - because at first glance it just looks like total gobbledygook.

Same goes for Category:Faculty of the Faculté des sciences pharmaceutiques et biologiques (Paris-Descartes) (yours) and several others I've just seen passing by (probably yours too because I can't imagine anyone else coming up with such complicated set-up, haven't seen that sort so far anyway). Have no time to check that but I'd easily think that you're the only one using these - or at least surely not many others do.

I had started cancelling them all, and half-way thru I thought s/he may possibly mean something by that. So I've cancelled my cancellings but (second thought) in fact, rather than explaining what you actually mean by those, it would make a lot more sense creating the appropriate category, like, I don't know, possibly "Faculté de médecine" or "Faculté de pharmacie" or whatever. These would be much more likely to be used by others.

Thanks. Pueblo89 (talk) 16:28, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Rhadamante (talk) 22:02, 2 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The category "Men's baseball players from Taiwan" means Taiwanese men who plays games of baseball. However, we have baseball players between the ages of 13 and 17, so I want to know which category they should be in? 125.230.89.39 15:20, 22 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

That category will do. Most of the categories for sportspeople are simply named "Male/Female [sportspeople] from X", and include teenagers as well as adults. They are few categories, for reasons I don't know (Association football/soccer, rugby, baseball, etc) that are named "Men/Women's [sportspeople] from X", and so new categories of the same are named similarly, but they function traditionally as the first ones, including all people of a certain gender, no matter the age. As far as I know, there are almost no categories here for junior sportspeople, excepted maybe some rare categories about the Youth Olympics and such, but no systemic categorization by country and gender.
