Hi Patrick! I made a mistake while specifying the license and author of the file, now I've updated the informations. --Pottercomuneo (talk) 23:01, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pottercomuneo: . Hi. These informations were in the EXIF already so it doesn't change anything. You must obtain Javier Bernal Revert permission to be sent via COM:OTRS. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 23:05, 24 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I based myself on this file, which is in a similar situation; is the difference the publishment on Flickr? Thanks! --Pottercomuneo (talk) 16:03, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, could I have any news about this? :) --Pottercomuneo (talk) 17:07, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Pottercomuneo: The difference is the image you are refering to is from a certified Flickr account from the European Union and your file not. Besides we are still waiting for Javier Bernal Revert permission. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 21:21, 2 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Patrick, The picture is a PR photo owned by Dutch company FrieslandCampina, which Cees 't Hart headed until 2015. This is also stated in the copyrights under the picture in the artcle you refer to. It's actually stated very clearly under the picture in the article. It specifically says 'PR photo'.

Category: 2020 Mexico City ePrix[edit]

Hi there! Two days back, the files in this gallery were nominated by you for deletion. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:2020_Mexico_City_ePrix

I have asked the original photographer to send an OTRS e-mail, which he did and the files are now fully valid with a proper license and a permission from the copyright owner. Is it possible to remove this nomination, or will it disappear automatically as the files are now valid? Can I do anything to stop the deletion as I already fixed the licensing problem? Any answer will be appreciated, thank you. :) CrashmasterSOAD (talk) 12:09, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@CrashmasterSOAD: Permissions have been received and photos are OK. Deletion template will disappear. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 12:45, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:Nadine Tanega, Miss Hawaii USA 1994.jpg[edit]

Hello, you had recently added a tag to a photo I had uploaded (photo title in the subject title) and had stated that this photo does not have permission to be used on Wikipedia; however, this photo is in the public domain and thus does not require permission from the original copyright holder to be uploaded. IZ041 (talk) 07:19, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@IZ041: Please explain after reading Commons:Copyright rules by territory/United States and adding the correct license tag why image is public domain in the U.S.A. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 19:45, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:Gautam Gambhir - LS MP.jpg[edit]

You marked File:Gautam Gambhir - LS MP.jpg for speedy deletion. Can you point to the exact discussion through which this image was deleted earlier? Bharatiya29 (talk) 22:17, 25 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

OK, done. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 16:56, 26 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Hi Patrick, can I send one permission e-mail for multiple files from the same author? Or do I mandatorily need to send 1 e-mail per each file even if they are all from the same author?

Thank you --Pottercomuneo (talk) 15:53, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pottercomuneo: Hi. It's not up to you to send permission(s) but each photographer. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 16:09, 27 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yes of course I know, but does each photographer have to send 1 single e-mail per each file? --Pottercomuneo (talk) 16:03, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Pottercomuneo: One permission per author even if there's several photographies. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 16:13, 28 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect thank you, I've contacted the photographers, they will send the email on Monday --Pottercomuneo (talk) 00:09, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rahul Ahuja.jpg recovery[edit]

Hi Patrick, I would like to inform you that all the Images uploaded are mine and hence available on my facebook page. request you to please help me with the same. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Papasrosie (talk • contribs)

@Papasrosie: Hi. The fact that you are pictured in doesn't make them "yours"; on the contrary the copyright is almost always hold by the photographer, not the subject. Besides Commons doesn't allow Facebook images: it makes 2 reasons why these images won't be recovered. So either reupload them at full resolution directly from your camera (not the Internet) or have the photographer sending a permission via COM:OTRS. Please note too regarding your pages on English Wikipedia that one page is enough and that users are discouraged to write about them so please read en:Conflict-of-interest editing on Wikipedia. Nevertheless since draft about you has been deleted once I suggest you to solve this notability problem at Wikipedia first before thinking of uploading more pictures here. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 16:35, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for being so clear. If I upload the same images right from the camera memory I hope there will be no issues.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Papasrosie (talk • contribs)
@Papasrosie: You should care about the Wikipedia draft before uploading pictures here because if the draft is not accepted images will be deleted. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 17:32, 1 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

BORRADO FOTO Gustavo Matos[edit]

About your reviews[edit]

I noticed that you tagged my uploads as deletion. May you explain me what kind of license I should use when upload free images from internet? MrInfo2012 (talk) 12:37, 7 March 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by MrInfo2012 (talk • contribs) [reply]

@MrInfo2012: First, don't link to the image itself but the page containing the image: you will find out that content is Copyright© 2020 FIVB - All rights reserved so not a free license. Please have someone at FIVB to send a permission via COM:OTRS. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 14:04, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick Rogel: Thanks for your guidance. I hadn't seen FIVB copyright text. I uploaded another photo of Sajad Dehnavi. May you see its copyright status. I think there isn't any problem.
@MrInfo2012: No this is not OK. Indeed almost everything you find on the Internet is copyrighted by default, even if "Copyright©" is not mentionned. Please re-read COM:Copyright. The only free files you can upload here are 1) your own pictures 2) pictures published under a valid license 3) pictures old enough in the country of first publication to be public domain. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 22:28, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick Rogel: I can find so many images that don't pass your criteria but they haven't deleted yet such as 1. About second image I uploaded, that site gathers images of Instagram and publishes on its site. MrInfo2012 (talk) 22:38, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@MrInfo2012: Instagram images are not free. If you think some image is a copyright violation you can propose it to deletion... after you have understood what is a free image, which seems not quite very clear in your mind. So please read the links mentionned above before uploading new files. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 22:51, 7 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Old postcards[edit]

Dear User talk:Patrick Rogel I have noticed your request to delete the 1900s postcards I have uploaded and I thank you for your remarks. I already answered that there are thousands of such postcards loaded, that mine obviously date before 1910, plus other remarks and therefore your chances to have deleted are extremely scarce. Why not answering to my points instead of adding dozens of new files to be deleted, without discussion ? This made me very sad by thinking you I was not listed to. Also, it implies a lot of work for the Administrators, so we should be reasonably sure of the result before asking for a deletion requests, which are a very important thing and should not be taken too lightly. By the way, are you please the same Patrick with which we discussed about on Wikipedia https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discussion_utilisateur:Patrick_Rogel ? Many thanks in advance. Rc1959 (talk) 09:04, 16 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

User talk:Patrick Rogel About hundreds of old postcards that you wanted to be deleted finally are, although you never gave any help and valid suggestion to keep them, just as there are thousands of similar ones in Commons Wikimedia, and despite the efforts I sincerely provided to document them as precisely as possible. I cannot understand this attitude which I believe is purely negativefor Commons. Regards. Rc1959 (talk) 08:00, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Cordialement, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 15:46, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick Rogel: Please let's stay calm and avoid personal attacks ("fainéantise", "vous n'avez cessé de nous embrouiller") that I believe are unfounded, and blaming me for "a month of work" is exaggerated: I provided efforts, possibly useless and clumsy, but efforts, of reviewing and editing of each image, trying to do what you told me to do. I did my best according to my modest skills: @Taivo: very kindly helped me but unfortunately some key examples I wanted to discuss about (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Files_uploaded_by_Rc1959) did not get a definitive answer. So, I was back to indeed imitate examples in good faith, whose majority are not more documented than my imports. I explored on the internet, on Commons examples, on various forums and Q&A what was the right approach: I could not find any clear information except that the important details were authors and dates, and the only way I could find was investigating the images themselves, using the few information I had: stamps indeed (and why this irony ?), googling with the editor and photograph name (this gave nothing) etc... Living abroad, I had absolutely no idea that "Archives departementales" can provide such information. I would have liked to find proof of my error, and would have immediately agreed with the lack of a valid license. As everyone can see, I did this in good faith from the start, and tried to understand what it was all about. Now, I accept @Didym: decision unreservedly. But after all, this is a collaborative project, I do my best to make Wikipedia and Commons richer and more interesting, and I would have greatly appreciated a warmer and more cordial approach. Rc1959 (talk) 19:10, 25 March 2020 (UTC). Rc1959 (talk) 19:10, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
If there are similar postcards on Commons, that might be a reason to also nominate them for deletion."

I can't take you seriously Patrick, If you're going to tag and nominate something for deletion, then delete it. Otherwise you're just a tagger. And tagging indiscriminately is just vandalism. CatCafe (talk) 13:38, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@CatCafe: Hi. First please say Hello and Goodbye when you are talking to me: we are not in an instant messenger here. The person which put a file on deletion is never the one who erase it: it's an Administrator who will decide if these two images should be kept or deleted (please re-read our Help). In the meantime please do not remove deletion request tags from images before an administrator has closed the debate. If you do not agree that the image should be deleted, you can express your opinion on the deletion request page. You can find this page via a link in the deletion request tag or at Commons:Deletion requests. REgarding your accusation of "vandalism" you should stop right away if you don't want to be reported to the Administrators. Kind regards, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 13:47, 23 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You're a tagger Patrick Rogel. Your attempt to have my image deleted has failed, so give it a rest. Don't post on my talk page, it's counterproductive. Please act civil in these matters and your tagging multiple times is considered a hostile stance on your part. If your deletion requests has support I would take you more seriously. All of My Uploads in the Past 2 Weeks[edit]

Hello, I am not clear as to why you are flagging the follwing images for deletion related to Connie Smith, Patsy Cline and Jan Howard. All these images are promotional photographs taken before 1977 and do not have a copyright notice. What do you need me to add for these to be considered up to par?

In regards to my uploads from today: I received permission from the person who owns the photos via email. Explain to me how I add that because the directions are rather confusing. Thanks. ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 23:56, 24 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@ChrisTofu11961: Hi. Regarding your upload of today photographer must send a permission via COM:OTRS. Regarding the other uploads there's no evidence that these pictures have been published (not taken) in the U.S.A. before 1977, the websites you provide as sources being much more recent than 1977. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 00:02, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
With the exception of the 1977 photo, what is considered a credible website to verify they were taken before 1977? I assumed that one would simply be able to look at the photos and know just from looking at them they were taken before 1977...ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 00:09, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
"Published", not taken. The vast majority of users who upload such photos on Commons make it from an eBay link where the item is an original paper picture and the back is available too so you can verify if there's a copyright notice or not. You can upload from scanned archives from periodicals too. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 00:15, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I used eBay as a source for this photo: File:Jan Howard--Capitol Records.jpg. Why is this being flagged? Cleary it is a promotional photograph from Capitol Records and it has a back to the image as well: Link ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 00:24, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I am comparing my uploads to this photo: link. What makes my photos capable of deletion versus this photo taken from eBay that has not been deleted? ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 00:32, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As I've told you above the photo you are refering to has a "Pre-1978, no mark" indication which can be verified by the back image with no copyright mark enclosed in the upload. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 00:36, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I found the back cover. I added some more details to the table as well for this photo: Link does this work? ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 01:01, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It's not the back; it's a close-up of the front (her signature). --Patrick Rogel (talk) 11:40, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Jan Howard new photo[edit]

Hello Patrick. This new photo that you have tagged is part of my own personal collection of Jan Howard's photos. These are home photos of her that were passed down to me, not professional photos. Why do they still need permission? ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 17:50, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@ChrisTofu11961: Hi. "personal collection" does mean nothing for Commons. Commons is only interested in who the photographer is or, depending on the different countries copyright laws, when and where it has been first published. Since it's obviously not your "own work" you have to choose a license among those if picture falls under U.S. law. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 17:58, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick Rogel: This photograph was never published anywhere, so I am confused. What should my next steps be? ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 18:02, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@ChrisTofu11961: As I've already told you a license has to be choosen among those listed at Commons:Copyright rules by territory/United States but in this case if never published, it's quite simple: file is still under copyright. It you want that image is correctly reviewed by an Administrator you must change source for a valid one and author for the name of the photographer. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 22:25, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick Rogel: Message received, thanks. I will find a way to correctly license this photo and will try my best to keep the dialogue open with other administrators willing to help me. Please understand that I am not as familiar with these rules that you know by heart. It is more challenging for me to understand them as I do not upload images to the commons regularly. So your patience and understanding would be appreciated. Until next time, ChrisTofu11961 (talk) 02:53, 28 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! On the Flickr page, the person who created the file released it as public domain. Shouldn't that be enough? Thanks! Megalibrarygirl (talk) 21:16, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Megalibrarygirl: Unfortunately CC Public Domain Mark 1.0 is not a license. Please read Flickr and PD images - Status of PD Mark 1.0 and COM:L to know the valid licenses and eventually ask the Flickr owner to change it. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 22:25, 27 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

All images of personalities are freely accessible to anyone interested, including copies already made in books. The Masonic Lodge Fidelidade Mineira provides the images even so that these people do not disappear from history. Many of the old Venerables do not have photos because they have no living relatives or their descendants do not have such old photos. Maintaining these photos on Wikipedia will serve to immortalize them for future stories of Freemasonry in Brazil. Documents posted as the Foundation Minutes are also freely accessible. The documents like "File: Motion of Applause from the Municipal Chamber for the 150th anniversary of Fidelidade Mineira.png" and others are also in the public domain, easily accessible and I made the link available on the page I am creating. If I need to send you a copy of the authorization of the images, all made available by Loja Maçônica Fidelidade Mineira. I only ask for a few days due to the advent of the Coronavirus that caused the Lodge to be closed by quarantine, as most Masons are part of the risk group. It should be noted that I am part of the board, so I have the endorsement of the store for this. If the above is not enough, I ask you to kindly guide me on how to proceed to make the images acceptable on Wikipedia. I'm really looking to be active and contribute with articles, and I wouldn't want to be making mistakes. Grateful. Leandro de Lemos (talk) 01:17, 2 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Problemi con l'immagine: File:Fòto do Carlini.jpg[edit]

Hi, Mr. Enrico Carlini has already sent Wikimedia Commons a declaration about giving up his rights. I wonder why his photo was canceled. Anyway, I have uploaded his picture again and he will send a new declaration in English again. He is well over 80 and has some difficulties with computers. Please consider the age of elderly people and also the fact that it is a great joy for them, after spending a lifetime translating like Mr. Carlini did, to see a recognition on Wikimedia. All the best, --Luensu1959 (talk) 15:45, 3 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Luensu1959: Hi. I suppose the OTRS has not received his authorization or it's because you haven't added {{subst:OP}} on the file description page. Photo Copyright[edit]

Dear Patrick Thanks for your attention. You mentiod that File:Javid Nikpour.jpg is marked for the copyright violation. Please be noted that this picture has been taken by myself and I am the photographer, and the right holder. Regards --AgentBarsam (talk) 11:13, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@AgentBarsam: Hi. Commons policy requires that, for files previously published under an unfree license (like here), copyright holder, who is almost always the photographer and not the person pictured, must send a permission via COM:OTRS. Besides writing on yourself is generally discouraged on the various Wikipedias so please check if the Wikipedia in Farsi has the same rules. Furthermore, the European Parliament maintains a flickr account which releases everything under usable Creative Commons licenses, futher suggesting that this is the European Parliament's policy across the board: https://www.flickr.com/photos/european_parliament/. MichaelBachPortraitCropped.jpg[edit]

Dear Patrick, Thank you for your message. Did you notice in the e-mails I provided in the Permissions section that the photographer agreed "to put [the photograph] into the public domain”? This is a far-less restrictive licence than the one I gave it ("the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 or any later version published by the Free Software Foundation”). I did so to preserve my role in the authorship of the photograph (its selection and cropping) and to record the photographer's work. In any case, if I honour what the photographer originally agreed to, I imagine I will have the same problem in establishing that the photograph is in the public domain. I would like to spare the photographer from the necessity to send e-mails to Wikimedia. What do you think?Robert P. O'Shea (talk) 06:01, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Robert P. O'Shea: Hi Robert. Unfortunatelly COM:OTRS doesn't accept forwarded messages and I'm afraid copyright holder has to sent a COM:CONSENT directly to them. Kind regards, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 08:09, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick Rogel: Thanks. I've sent a message to the photographer to send the e-mail. Once that comes through, will the text of the e-mails in the permissions section of the page disappear? (I realise I inadvertently left one example of the photographer's e-mail address in that text.)Robert P. O'Shea (talk) 09:23, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Robert P. O'Shea: Hi again. You are right. You should ask an Administrator or ask the OTRS agent to ask an Administrator to hide these personal informations. Just not delete them by yourself: they'll be still available through History. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 09:27, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings! You did not provide a reason for deleting the following files:

Владислав Мордасов в суде.jpg Ян Сидоров на суде.jpg Фото из материалов уголовного дела "Ростовского дела".jpg Монумент Первоконникам, он же «конь с яйцами».jpg Всадник с телефоном.png

I ask you to remove the mark about being put up for deletion or provide a meaningful justification for this action. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Andreiyw (talk • contribs) 13:33, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Andreiyw: Hi. I do provide a reason for these files to be put on deletion: they are all missing evidence of permission, as stated on your Talk page (and displayed in your language). Indeed these images have been copied from copyrighted websites. Please provide evidence of permission by either providing a link to a site with an explicit release under a free license or by sending a declaration of consent to confirm copyright ownership by email at permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 15:05, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick Rogel: the files are distributed under the OVD-info license (ovdinfo.org) licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Unported License and this was indicated by me in the licensing. Do I need anything else to confirm? --Andreiyw (talk) 16:13, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi again. It seems you don't understand that you can't license images that are not yours. For example, the first one on the batch File:Вячеслав Шашмин на суде.jpg is credited Vasily Deryugin / Kommersant so you must obtain Deryugin's permission which he sends himself at the requested e-mail and so on for each photographer. File:To Every Non-Communist Full-Page Ad.jpg[edit]

Hello Patrick Rogel,
You recently reversed my change on the above-mentioned page whereas, on 20 February 2020, I notified the following on the appropriate discussion page : " I have now found the appropriate copyright rule, which is that works published in the U.S. without a valid copyright notice before 1978 automatically fall into the public domain. This is promotional material entirely provided by MRA as a full-page ad. The copyright notice should then be {{PD-US-no-notice}}. " You did not object then, and I changed the copyright notice accordingly. So why this revert now? With due respect I don't understand.
Yours sincerely, Pensées de Pascal (talk) 18:41, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Pensées de Pascal: You are not authorized to remove a deletion template until an Administrator closes the discussion. Besides doing so doesn't closes the discussion because it's indexed elsewhere. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 21:36, 10 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick Rogel: , what must then be done? There was no reaction to the copyright notice change back in February. Pensées de Pascal (talk) 23:39, 12 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Pensées de Pascal: Wait an Administrator closes this request but it may be long or ask to an Administrator of your choice to take a look at it. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 09:46, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion of my pictures[edit]

Hello Patrick Rogel, I am posting an article about honorable author Andrey Kulagin, and I have upload some of his pictures. I am representing him and he gave me all rights to post his works. I know about licensing rights. They are saved. I just don't know which evidence do you need to confirm them? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fingertipsandcompany (talk • contribs)

Files with "Protestas Plaza de la Bandera día uno" and others[edit]

The photographer has sent the drive via email OTR giving me permissions to user all his pictures.

File:Protestas Plaza de la Bandera día uno.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

hank you for your comments in relation to the images that I uploaded. I have am email from a duly authorised representative of that agency providing me with approval to upload the images to Wikimedia. However, the email is not in the form and does not use the precise wording of the approval email required by Wikipedia. I have requested the representative to either use your interactive release generator or to send an appropriate email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. I understand that if you do not receive approval from them within a reasonable time then the images should be deleted.

With respect to the image File:Cherub Sailing 01.jpg I am the holder of the copyright and I have requested that it be restored. The image was published on the site sail-world.com as part of an article I authored. I provided the image to them under a free licence. Sail-world.com at no time held the copyright for the image. If you need me to provide a release for the image I assume that I need to have it restored to use the interactive release generator. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fivestar3145 (talk • contribs)

@Derbake: Obviously it was a bad Flickr account hence the deletion of the picture by an Administrator. You can contact him/her for further enquiries. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 16:51, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Patrick, I wanted to share that Gary Friedman, who owns the copypright on the Puppets Against AIDS photos and took the color photo (with the mannequin) himself, has sent in the release/permission under Creative Commons form via the template(s) for the color and black and white photos and was told he needed to get the photographer (who is no longer alive) to send in a release, as well. When Gary informed Wikipedia that the photographer had passed, he was told he needed to get an heir to use the OTRS template, too--which Gary did, the only thing is the heir, Mark Turpin, had trouble with the technology, so he forwarded a letter (generated by the template from Wikipedia)that grants permission, which I then forwarded to Wikipedia photo submissions several hours ago. Re: the teacher strike photos you nominated for deletion on the UTLA page, I took one of them (pre-strike rally) and own the copyright, though the photo submissions editor said she can't authenticate that. I've sent in a few emails attesting to the fact that I took the photo and own the copyright. Re: the other strike photos, my husband Ira Gottlieb took two of them (in the tunnel and umbrellas in the rain, gray sky) and just uploaded them to Wikimedia yesterday via the template. Re: the other strike photos, the photographer Mike Chickey also sent in a release, but was told he needed to do a few other things and I'm unclear as to whether he followed up. Re: the photos on the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions page, the owner of the copyright Jeff Halper also sent in a release, but the Wikipedia submissions editor told him he needed to do some other things, and I'm unclear as to whether he did or did not follow up. In short, however, all who own copryights have submitted written release/permission letters. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. Best wishes, MarcyMarcywinograd (talk) 15:14, 20 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to copyright
File:DaddyYankee Alex J Luis Fonsi.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

File:Sean Friday with Rikki Jai.jpg - Request to remove (no permission granted from Rikki Jai) File:Friday's Music Mill Studio and Bandroom Rehearsal.jpg - This is my work and my photo. @MUSICMAN.ME: Hi. {{Own}} supposes that "you personally created the entire original image by yourself" which is highly unlikely since these images are not selfies. Then the photographer(s) has(have) to send a(their) permission(s) via COM:OTRS and, if as you claimed that you were the owner of them, you have to explain how do you acquire rights on them. Besides I've seen you have created one day after this deletion request a draft on yourself but English Wikipedia has strict rules which prohibit your writing your own article -- any contributions you make to it are subject to immediate deletion there. I strongly recommend you to quickly disclose this conflict on interest on English Wikipedia and to submit your draft for review, as it has already suggested to you. Please note that if your draft were to be rejected the images will be deleted automatically for being not COM:INUSE. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 22:09, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi friend Patrick, I don't understand why you nominated to delete this image The file File:Aziza Jalal عزيزة جلال2.jpg resized from File:Aziza Jalal عزيزة جلال.jpg

Let me tell you that lately I am realizing that you are exceeding your functions. You only chase what you don't like. Perhaps you are the only revistor of all Wiki Commons that always nominates all my images? I don't think so. I have talked to administrators and reviewing users and nobody helps by uploading an image to illustrate a biography. They only respond by deleting the image. Wiki Commons has been transformed into a personal page managed by a group of users who do not allow this project to expand. I understand the copyright policies registered for "mickey mouse" now I think they should be revised for historical images of public people. Your friend --Derbake (talk) 16:43, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Derbake: Hi. First File:Aziza Jalal عزيزة جلال2.jpg seems OK. I've no special "functions" on Commons, just like you. Unfortunately it appears while reviewing EVERY single upload of the past 24hrs your uploads often flashes red. You can easily check my contributions to find out that I'm not "chasing" you. It's not my fault if you have so many files put on deletion (or already deleted) but a misunderstanding by you of the copyright policies (which are decided by the legislators of each country, not by us) or the goal of the project: Commons doesn't need to be "expanded" by more copyright violations. Kind regards, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 17:42, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick Rogel: Dear Patrick, I have been on Wikipedia for 13 years. I am not interested in the commons project at all, I just use it to illustrate some Wikipedia posts. As you said, I see that you are not interested in the project expanding with images without copyright, but I do see a lot of images with copyright that are useless. As you will see, in 13 years I have not uploaded as many great images as you. Unfortunately in my case, I can't take my camera and go to an airport to take an original photograph of an airplane that I like to share in the commons, if you have the way to take an original photograph of a personality who died 30 or 40 years ago. without having to resort to a public archive tell me. Regards.--Derbake (talk) 20:26, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
You are of course allowed to illustrate Wikipedia articles with images but with images which are free, which means 1) images you have created yourself 2) images found on websites with a valid license 3) images old enough to be public domain in the country of first publication. I insist on the last point because it's the type of images you usually upload and because there's a confusion in your practice (since 13 years) between shooting date and publication date. So please re-read the copyright laws of Lebanon, Syria and Egypt until you understand them or focus on more simple tasks like uploading (very) old images. Kind regards, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 22:24, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I will take your findings into account. The next time I will consult you before. Thank you for reversing the deletion of the file File:Aziza Jalal عزيزة جلال2.jpg. Regards--Derbake (talk) 23:01, 1 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pierre-Yves Soucy[edit]

Bonjour,

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Saul Zart (talk • contribs) 15:27, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

License question[edit]

Hi Patrick, I've come to ask about some images since you've done some good reviews on my uploads. I found an album on Flickr that has the CC-BY little man icon attached, but after uploading it looks like a lot of the images individually have a CC0 license. Now, while it's clear that the uploader took them, is it right that this isn't allowed? Kingsif (talk) 19:43, 8 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Kingsif: Hi. Please read COM:L; CC0 is OK. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 06:27, 9 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Hello dear Patrick, I want to use this image on Arabic Wikipedia :Amaar_Elsheree.jpg. I can and with what license? regards--Derbake (talk) 16:50, 15 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. This image has been posted under fair use on Arabic Wikipedia and is tolerated there only because it's a low-resolution image. But there's no fair use on Commons and, by the way, what make you think this image is free? As I've explained to you there's only 3 reasons for an image to be free:

So, definitively not free. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 16:45, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply. But if this image is published by an official page of the government of Egypt [2]. Couldn't I be licensed {PD-EGY}?--Derbake (talk) 17:42, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Derbake: A copyrighted work doesn't become uncopyrighted just because of another publication. A copyrighted work may become uncopyrighted only because of its age in entering the public domain or if his author (the photographer) and only him decides to abandon his rights on it. In the particular case you are talking of the Egyptian government (or anybody else) can't license this work simply because he is not the author of it. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 20:20, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:Mark Levine Alexandria VA.jpg[edit]

Hello: you just marked the photo File:Mark Levine Alexandria VA.jpg as a copyright violation of a SHRM conference page at https://conferences.shrm.org/session-type/general-session?page=4. However, the photo in question was actually provided to SHRM by the aforementioned individual. I have full ownership and permission to use this photo. Please remove the copyright tag at your earliest convenience. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Campboypr (talk • contribs)

@Campboypr: Hi. The informations you provide are rather contradictory: you say photo was provided by Mark Levine and at the same time claim {{Own}}. So are you Mark Levine? --Patrick Rogel (talk) 16:30, 16 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Patrick, you marked both the above mentioned images: G9KN6072 for possible copyright violation and DhunnAlbumCover for fair use. I am Ankur Bhasin and I own these images and give to Wikipedia hence there is no copyright violation and issue of fair use. I apologies for for violating the copyright rules by uploading three movie posters without permission[edit]

I am writing this to say I apologize for violating the copyright rules for uploading three movie posters without permission because I cannot find the original owners of the posters and uploading them on Wikipedia proves to be difficult with the copyright rules and doing that will ban me from editing on Wikipedia

So with that I apologize for my action and kindly don't ban me.I promise I will no longer edit pictures on Wikipedia and decided to ask you in email to post them instead

So kindly delete file:Highlander 1986.jpg and File:God told me to black and white poster.jpg and you upload the posters on Wikipedia by yourself

The Highlander poster I found : http://saturdaysleepovers.podwits.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/01/Highlander86.jpg comes from saturdaysleepovers : http://saturdaysleepovers.podwits.com/category/sci-fi/page/2/ The god told me to poster https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075930/mediaviewer/rm891422720 comes from imdb : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0075930/mediaindex?ref_=tt_mv_close

Multiple files missing permission information[edit]

Hi Patrick Rogel! All the photos were self-scanned and were originaly taken before july 1970. I uploaded them under this license:

Public domain
This work is in the public domain both in Portugal and in the United States because it was first published in Portugal (and not published in the U.S. within 30 days) and it was first published before 1 March 1989 without complying with U.S. copyright formalities, such as copyright notice and it is one of the following:

  • A photographic work, work deemed to be a photographic work or work of applied art created before 1 July 1970 (more info here); or
  • Another type of work whose author died before 1946; or
  • An anonymous work or a work deemed to be anonymous, or a work by a collective person whose authors were not individually identified, published or disclosed before 1946.

For background information, see the explanations on Non-U.S. copyrights.
As of 1 January 1996, the following were in the public domain in Portugal: works whose author died before 1946; anonymous works, works deemed to be anonymous, or works by a collective person whose authors were not individually identified, first published or disclosed before 1946; photographic works, works deemed to be photographic works or works of applied art created before 1 July 1970; news articles or economic, political or religious articles, published or disclosed before 1996, provided that rights have not been specifically reserved and mentions, wherever possible, the name of the author and of the publisher, of the title of the work and other elements enabling it to be identified.

That puts them in the public domain without the need for a permission, no? JonJon86 (talk) 17:04, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Raul Mestre.png[edit]

Hi Patrick,

You tagged Raúl Mestre.png for speedy deletion because is copyryghted material. Of course it is, i personally took that picture last september on Malaga (Spain) during EducaPoker 10th Aniversary. So, i am the owner of the picture and i want to crop the image from the original for Wikimedia Commons for make the zoom. What's the problem? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adri1704 (talk • contribs) 20:46, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Adri1704: Hi. This file has been tagged for being a screenshot, not a copyright violation. You said it's a picture which is unlikely because cameras doesn't make .png files making believe it's rather a screenshot from a video. Besides it has been published before your upload on an unfree site. In such cases the photographer is requested to send a permission via COM:OTRS. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 21:00, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
A png file doesn't imply anything except it is a specific format. Jeblad (talk) 21:03, 19 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
That's not a screenshot, please, at least don't lie. Here you can find the original photo. https://www.flickr.com/photos/184756718@N06/albums/72157711143260002 Do you know how i know it? Because i am the one who took the photo! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Adri1704 (talk • contribs)
@Adri1704: First please sign your postings: as you can see I receive a lot of messages and I've a lot of conversation to handle. We are not clairvoyants here so if you don't indicate the Flickr account as source we can't know the image comes from it. Besides it doesn't come from it since you file is a lower resolution than the images posted on Flickr and the website I mentionned. Why remains a mystery. Nevertheless the Flickr account is not under a valid license so either you modify it or the photographer sends a permission via COM:OTRS. File:Tommy_Lee_Jones_in_the_SSPF.jpg[edit]

Hi Patrick, I tried multiple times to get you to respond to my messages on this file's deletion request discussion page but no reply, so I assumed you've concluded the conversation. I need to know exactly what licensing tag is needed for that image, as I couldn't find any template (and I find thw whole wikipeia licensing world very complex and confusing, despite my presence on the site for over five years). Also my statement for keep is there. Thanks, User:Raphael.concorde - 09:37 am UTC, May 22, 2020

@Raphael.concorde: Hi. First please sign your postings by using ~~~~. There's no need of any more templates since file seems OK now. You have simply to wait an Administrator (not me neither you) closes the request without removing the deletion template (you can read "Do not remove this tag until the deletion nomination is closed." on it). Kind regards, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 10:53, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick Rogel: Ok now I know. Thanks. Last question before I go: is there a way to put in the discussion any recent updates indicating its ready to be closed to aministrators? Thanks --User:Raphael.concorde (talk) 13:20, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Raphael.concorde: No. you may ask an Administrator of your choice to close it but there's no hurry. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 14:18, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Patrick. I do not understand why you removed this picture of my sister from wikimedia commons. I took it some time ago with my camera and I also put it in the web page I had made for her (http://echarmandari.gr/en/cv.php). I noticed that someone had made an entry in wikidata for her (Q44406215) and I thought it would have been a good idea to also include a picture of her. Thanks in advance Vassilis Charmandaris Vcharmandaris (talk) 14:05, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Vcharmandaris: Hi. I haven't remove anything; an Administrator has. Please click on the image name to know who he/she is and the reason for the deletion and, eventually, contact him/her for further enquiries. Typically you are not authorized to copy anything from the web since almost everything on the Internet is copyrighted moreover if it's explicit, like here (© 2020 All Rights Reserved). Besides Commons is looking for the highest resolution pictures so you can reupload it at full resolution with intact EXIFs directly from your camera. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 14:18, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Eugeniusz Kupski[edit]

It was taken from the archives of en:Institute of National Remembrance. I can publish any document from the IPN everywhere (perhaps Commons in only one place where it is not possible). I do not understand your problem. I gave the source (IPN). Leszek Jańczuk (talk) 13:49, 1 June 2020 (UTC) These two photos were taken from the national archives. Leszek Jańczuk (talk) 14:10, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Leszek Jańczuk: Hi and welcome too. The field Source in the file description page must link to a website containing the image then the patrollers might verify if the picture is under a valid license, not a Wikipedia page. Please note too {{PD-PolishGov}} is unvalid because this license tag is not about images. Nevertheless please reply in the two discussion pages (not here) if you want that your point of view is read by the closing Administrator. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 14:12, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
There is no website with these photos. I have received permission from the IPN, and other governmental archives for publishing. I publish them in other places and there is no problem. Note "archives of IPN" is enough. Or "archives of AAN". They do not demand anything else. Leszek Jańczuk (talk) 14:19, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Leszek Jańczuk: Hi and welcome too (bis). Then a representative from the IPN must send a permission via COM:OTRS but, once again, please reply on the discussion pages. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 14:25, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
It is not possible, I asked several years ago. It does not work at that way. Not everybody can use sources of the IPN, only small number of peoples, but who received it, he can publish. Leszek Jańczuk (talk) 14:34, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Clearly erroneous CSD[edit]

@RandomCanadian: HI and welcome too. What kind of regular? You have cropped two files here. If you were a regular you should know that removing deletion templates is not allowed and that there's a "Challenge speedy deletion" button for such cases. Besides the "known behaviour of Getty" is a slogan, not a valid reason for keeping a file. Nevertheless please reply directly in the DR if you want that the closing Administrator reads your arguments. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 14:57, 1 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Possible copyright violation (John Prentice)[edit]

The website doesn't own the copyright of the photo. My family does. We've allowed the website and others like it to use it publicly, and we have every right to allow Wikimedia to use it, as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Packer1028 (talk • contribs) 06:00, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Packer1028: Hi and welcome too. Commons policy requires that, for files previously published under unfree license, copyright holder (who is almost always the photographer so one person only, not "a family") must send a permission via COM:OTRS. Alternatively photographer may reupload file at full resolution with intact EXIFs directly from his (her) camera. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 07:34, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
What if the original photographer is an elderly woman who doesn't know how to use the Internet? Is there some way I can do this process for her? Also, sorry, forgot to sign the last post, am a little frustrated at this whole process. The original photographer is a relative, but there's no way she knows how to do any of this. Packer1028 (talk) 14:02, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Packer1028: It's as easy as she did the first time with the website. Of course you may assist her in filling the declaration of consent and in posting it to OTRS mail but have you requested their help to solve the problem? You should. In the meantime you should too search for the original high-resolution version of this image (on a camera or computer hardrive or on a print perhaps ) because you will have hard times to convince them your file is the original because it's lower resolution (150 x 188) than the one on the the Internet (252 x 274). Long LIST of long-time-ago uploads[edit]

Hi, yesterday (4 hours ago) you marked for deletion a dozen or so images =some of which have resided in COMMONS for a long time= ALL OF WHICH ARE OF MY OWN AUTHORSHIP and for sure will not be contested for copyright. I cannot imagine why = is it something about Relevance? Then there is nothing I can do, alas. Well, in my view all these are valuable and deserve to remain in Wiki - but again, you know better. Please, leave them in place! Thx, rgds,--Ecce Ego (talk) 15:00, 2 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Patrick,

You marked the image I uploaded of B. Brice for speedy deletion for copyright infringement. This is actually my work that was requested by NewsNY and a number of other publishers. I have record of correspondence with NewsNY for the image handover for news media and feature purposes and the required sign off to use this image. If you cannot rectify this issue, please feel free to remove the image and I will upload original content that has not been featured online before that I and only I own full copyright privilege to. Will this solve the issue? Guidance would be appreciated.

Hi Patrick[edit]

Kindly be informed that the picture marked for deletion is done by a paid painter in old market of Kuwait back in 1985 and he was freelance. The picture is for my grand father and kept with me all this time. Thanks for understanding. Alduaij65 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alduaij65 (talk • contribs)

If anonym work is protected 50 years after it has been unveiled so until 2035 (1985 ̟ 50). Please read Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Kuwait. Nevertheless the problem with these files is that they appear out of COM:SCOPE because ːarːSheikh Ali bin Muhammad bin Abdul Mohsen bin Ahmed Al-Duaij has been deleted already. Please note that albums covers or other images falling under fair use are not accepted here. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 09:11, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Tomás Ferretiz: Hi and welcome (again). Perhaps you have agreed something with her; I'm just telling you how it works on Commonsː images won't be kept unless a permission of the photographer(s) (or their heirs) is sent. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 14:39, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:President Kalam presenting the 'colours' to the J&K Police.jpg[edit]

The author of this file, Mr. Kushal Kumar Sinha is my friend and he permitted me to use the file on Wikimedia and Wikipedia. I provided the adequate information that you asked. So, please remove the tag of deletion. Thank You. Mangalam Agrawal (talk) 07:26, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Mangalam Agrawal: Hi and welcome. First, Commons doesn't accept low-resolution Facebook or Twitter images. Second, it doesn't rely on oral permissions neither; it's why the message sent to you asks the copyright holder (Kushal Kumar Sinha) to send a permission via COM:OTRS. To end please don't add nonsense templates like {{FoP-India}} or {{QualityImage}}. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 09:28, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
He provide me permission through direct message from twitter, not orally Mangalam Agrawal (talk) 09:42, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Mangalam Agrawal: Hi and welcome (again). He must send personally his permissionː OTRS is unable to accept forwarded permission statements or proxy statements for legal reasons. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 09:47, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Educational Content from Social Media.[edit]

Can I not upload the educational contents from the social media (Facebook, Twitter, etc.)? Mangalam Agrawal (talk) 15:02, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Mangalam Agrawal: Hi again. A "hello" and "thank you" is welcome here even if it's not the first message you try to send me hereː nobody will be aware of the messages let to someone else on your talk page if you don't notify that person by using {{ping|user name}}. To reply to you I've already told you that social media content is not allowed here. More generally almost everything you find on the Internet is copyrighted and can not be copied here unless exceptions. I see you are a new user so I suggest you to re-read the Help pages linked at the top of your talk page and to come back if you need a reply at a question which is not already answered in these Help pages. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 15:22, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
But sir I am talking about the education Content and not about any good morning messages, etc. If I add the link of that social media page (where I found the image) in the source, then would it be accepted? Mangalam Agrawal (talk) 16:00, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Example if the Indian Army post an image of its social media accounts and also mention that images in their website, then would that image with {{Indian Army}} license would be acceptable or not on Wikimedia? Mangalam Agrawal (talk) 16:04, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your concerns about social media files. So, I am proposing that I will change the source of all my social media files and marked them as 'own work' and mail all the permission for using those files on Wikimedia Commons. So, please remove the tag of deletion. Thank You. Mangalam Agrawal (talk) 13:51, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Photographer himself (Niko Abbasov) send me this image to upload. What should I do? I have permission EyyubVEVO (talk) 15:59, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@EyyubVEVO: Photographer has to send a permission via COM:OTRS. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 19:43, 14 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:Kaushik Basu - Festival Economia 2013.JPG[edit]

Hi Patrick, regarding this: I am the author and uploader. I prefer the photo to be attributed to my name and not to my nickname, but my name links to my user page, so I do not understand what doubts can there be. --Jaqen (talk) 06:12, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Jaqen: File is OK and sorry for my mistakeːI've been fooled by the name Kaushik Basu1952 (who is probably the person pictured in) since this image didn't look like a selfie. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 22:15, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, he overwrote my file with his, and then reverted back to mine. No problem! --Jaqen (talk) 06:40, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Public Domain files.[edit]

File:PM Nehru presenting the 'colours' to the UP PAC.jpg This file is in Public Domain because of the Indian Law of Public Domain.

File:The Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Patel presenting the colours to the CRPF.jpg This file is in Public Domain. So, please review before the deletion.

I changed the source for File:The Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Patel presenting the colours to the CRPF.jpg and File:PM Nehru presenting the 'colours' to the UP PAC.jpg and tagged as own work. I will send you the permissions via email. So, please remove the tag of the deletion. Thank You. Mangalam Agrawal (talk) 13:46, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Mangalam Agrawal: It doesn't work like that. Only an Administrator can close the discussions (it needs that you copy your arguments from here to there) so please wait for their decision. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 21:19, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Samuel Meisels Photo removed because of copyright violation (COM.CSD#F1)[edit]

Hello Patrick, I would like to re-upload the Samuel Meisels image with the appropriate permissions in place. The Buffett Institute where Samuel Meisels is Executive Director purchased the photo portrait from a freelance photographer. Should I have the Institute, Meisels, or the photographer fill out the Interactive Release Generator (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Email_templates/Consent)? Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lizin402 (talk • contribs) 16:06, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Lizin402: Ideally the photographer himself must send the permission. In the case of a work for hire a representative from the Buffett Institute must send the permission with a copy of the transfert of rights from the photographer to the Institute enclosed. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 21:23, 15 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Patrick Rogel: Thank you, I appreciate the information. Just to be clear, after they have submitted the permissions information will they receive confirmation of some kind that gives approval to upload the image to use in the Samuel Meisels article?

Photos by AntonyZ[edit]

Hello Patrick,
I checked the photos, which you placed for deletion on my page and all are from Naval Herritage History Center. I already checked their privacy policy in the past and found out, that these photo are allowed to be publish under public domain and there should be credits of each photo, which I believe I put in the source field. Please check the link here: Privacy Policy of Naval Herritage History Center and let me know, If you get it wrong. Also on your link is mentioned Official government photographs and documents are in the public domain and may be scanned and reproduced in print or online. They may be cropped or resized, but their content may not be altered.
I apologize for inconvenience, but I would like to maintain these photos on Commons, check the privacy policy and then let me know, what I can do different.
Thank you so much for your cooperation AntonyZ (talk)
@AntonyZ: Hi. It seems this Privacy policy has nothing to do with copyright while Scanning, Copyright & Citation Information has but feel free to discuss directly on the discussion page. Note that Commons doesn't allow files which can't be modified (no Non-Derivative restrictionː please read COM:L). Kind regards, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 17:28, 17 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, but what now? I have to admit that I am little bit confused now, because from my point of view, I had uploaded the photos with descriptions, source, author if possible and If I check rules from Navy Herritage History Center's section "Copyright and Citation", I fulfilled their rules. In short, what I have to do with these photos to keep them uploaded? Because I spent many hours on articles with these photos. Thank you for your time AntonyZ (talk)

Hi Patrick About this pic, I just wanted to say that when I uploaded the pic 8 years ago, it had free Commons permission. I see that author has changed idea. Best regards. --Cvbr (talk) 15:57, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Cvbr: Hi. I'm afraid the author has not changed anything in the license. You extract an image from this video just two years ago and even at the time it wasn't under a free Creative Commons license. --Patrick Rogel (talk) 16:09, 18 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:VISHAAL.jpg and File:SAB-81-VK-5G.jpg[edit]

Hi Patrick, I am an editor on enwp and noticed you nominated File:SAB-82-ML-4G.jpg for deletion so thought I would alert you to these as well. It's the same user who has created a few sock accounts on enwp. You can view the enwp SPI report here. So far, 4 accounts have been identified. Note, they used File:SAB-82-ML-4G.jpg to replace the image in an existing article about an unrelated Vishal Kumar here. S0091 (talk) 20:21, 21 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Robert Fico June 2020[edit]

It's just your guess and it doesn't mean anything. The truth is that it is my work, a photo from a press conference. Completely unnecessary nomination based only on presumption without any proof. --178.143.105.117 12:14, 22 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Elżbieta Kossecka[edit]

Bienvenue. --Gruzin (talk) 15:46, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Wegeta[edit]

Regarding Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Wegeta, I was going to open a deletion request until I saw this discussion. What evidence do we have that these sockpuppet users are the artist himself? Is it not customary to have a COM:OTRS request for copyright release, to prove ownership and licensability? Elizium23 (talk) 11:54, 4 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Patrick, maybe you can help me:
The photographer of this picture sent his release weeks too late, so it got deleted. After he finally sent the release, OTRS asked him to provide the original picture including metadata, in order to prove that he is the author. Alberto doesn't know how to do this, as the original file ist too big to send via E-Mail. He asked OTRS on July 10 what to do, but did not get a reply until now. I asked on his behalf yesterday but did not get a reply neither (well, maybe I'm to impatient here). In my undeletion request from July 6 I got the answer that undeleting would be out-of-process. Can you give me a hint to solve this problem? Thanks, Kaethe17 (talk) 13:37, 16 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

(talk page stalker) (sorry Patrick) @Kaethe17: If the photographer has a website, he could post it there with a notice stating that "This photo has been published under the Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 4.0 license" (or a less restrictive license) and reply to the email with a link to the page.
Does this website belong to the photographer in question?
As a last resort, he could perform copyright registration of the content at an official registration agency and then send it to us with the registration document attached as a PDF. Green Giant (talk) 00:31, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Green Giant. Putting the image on the website sounds like a good idea.--Kaethe17 (talk) 11:15, 18 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean "no evidence of publication" ? There's no reason to delete the image. — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 80.225.1.130 (talk) 00:00, 31 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

File:ТПК.jpg[edit]

Good Day, most likely this is a false operation of Your1 system, because there is one "BUT". This photo is from North Korea, and they also have laws aimed at protecting copyright, but the North Koreans have never banned or asked for their material to be removed. So this is a mistake. Either the person who asked You to delete it is deceiving You about the rights to this photo, because all media in North Korea is the property of the Korean people

Copyright violations[edit]

Good afternoon, you deleted almost all the files that I uploaded and sent me the last warning, BUT You were wrong, because all these photos are from North Korea, and they also have laws aimed at protecting copyright, but the North Koreans have never forbidden or asked to delete their materials. So this is a mistake. Either the person who asked You to delete it is deceiving You about the rights to this photo, because all media in North Korea is the property of the Korean people. I have added recovery requests to almost every file I have and I also ask you to remove Your warning from me --Danil236 (talk) 09:06, 21 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Snn.ir[edit]

Hello. Looks like we've been cleaning up some of the same problematic images. I've started a thread at Commons:Village_pump/Copyright#Snn.ir_watermarks asking whether the SNN.ir template should carry the same caveat about unwatermarked images probably not being CC-licenced, if you can offer a voice of experience there. --Lord Belbury (talk) 10:53, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

What's your take on what's going on with MrInfo2012, by the way? An enthusiastic Iranian sports fan who's uploading whatever pictures they can find, or a paid editor who's being given "sure, take any photo from my instagram / this news article" instructions from clients? It looks like they've also created biography articles for a lot of these people over at the English Wikipedia. --Lord Belbury (talk) 11:16, 20 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvios. I am sorry.[edit]

Hello. since you have notified me of copyvios committed by me, I want to apologize and notify that I am trying to solve other copyvios (1, 2). I have request the deletion of some of my uploads per no permission. Dont block me, please. I promise not to upload more images that are not my own. I have upload photos of my own work, like these ones. Again, I am sorry.--Malvinero10 (talk) 20:09, 8 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Patrick Rogel, could you help me? I have uploaded the following File: Uxía Tizón.jpg and I consider that the rights are clear. Thanks a lot. --Borjaseob (talk) 17:01, 2 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Shezhou patches[edit]

Hello Patrick, how are you?

I saw or argument on Commons:Deletion requests/File:Shenzhou 9 mission patch.png and I'd like to know: if this is valid for Shenzhou 9 patch, could it be a valid reason to delete all of these: Shenzhou 5, Shenzhou 6, Shenzhou 7, Shenzhou 10 and Shenzhou 11? Thanks, Erick Soares3 (talk) 01:59, 19 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
