Cthulhu[edit]

Hi, I noticed that you nominated two images I uploaded for deletion.

https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Todos_teman_al_todopoderoso_Cthulhu.jpg

https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Sailor_Moon_fighting_against_Cthulhu.jpg

I understand that they are of low quality and that they do not serve very well to represent the subject of artificial intelligence, but I think they deserve to continue in Commons as two images that represent the character Cthulhu Strange Anomaly (talk) 23:30, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Strange Anomaly: I've put my thoughts at Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Craiyon, where I was writing about a lot of unused Craiyon images on Commons rather than just these two of Cthulhu. Would be useful to get your input there if you have some thoughts on how these images are useful and should be kept. Lord Belbury (talk) 09:06, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Craiyon images[edit]

Some dozen or so of these images were specifically created as illustrations for the July 31 Signpost, which is due to publish in three hours. As such, I am currently editing the issue and preparing it for publication, and do not have the time to properly articulate myself here. The ones I have made are not being put into file categories for their subjects (i.e. "Dalmatian bench" is not in any categories for benches or Dalmatians). I will respond to the nomination in more detail later, but for the time being, I can assure you that many of these are directly relevant to a project. JPxG (talk) 19:36, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@JPxG: From your talk page, it looks like only three of them were your uploads, and those three aren't in use on any Signpost drafts? I didn't nominate images any that were in use on any project. --Lord Belbury (talk) 19:49, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I don't know, I just got the notification when I was popping in to check something. I will have to take a closer look later. JPxG (talk) 21:06, 31 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

hi[edit]

i dont konw much about copyright. how can i delete my files? Crenshaw1912 (talk) 10:20, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Crenshaw1912: They'll be deleted automatically, soon, don't worry about it. --Lord Belbury (talk) 10:26, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Ok thanks
Will my account be blocked after files are deleted? Crenshaw1912 (talk) 10:29, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Crenshaw1912: No, you're okay, Commons only blocks people if they carry on doing something after they were asked to stop. If you have questions about copyright of future uploads you can ask them at Commons:Village pump/Copyright, but basically if you've found an image online, then the site you're taking it from has to very clearly say that the image has been released as public domain (or some similar licence), you can't just upload pictures from newspapers here. --Lord Belbury (talk) 10:35, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you very much Crenshaw1912 (talk) 10:37, 3 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

File:Sasa_Mirkovic_u_2021.jpeg[edit]

Hello, please undelete this image, Sasa_Mirkovic_u_2021.jpeg, it is not copyright. If you check the email of wikipedia commons you will see that the image is uploaded in march of 2021. Since that news article is after in that year, it can only mean that the image was taken from wikipedia. The images in its first, is the owners sole ownership, taken from private archive, which was also confirmed in the email for copyright commons.

Please do not go arround and verify something that is not correct, just to do something in a day. Please be thorough, because this errors create a lot of problems for this kind of edits.. Regards,

Spawnjfk (talk) 17:00, 12 August 2022 (UTC)Dj[reply]

@Spawnjfk: Thanks for your response. You uploaded the image in October 2021, and the news article image is from March and at a higher resolution. I don't know what email you mean, the file didn't have an OTRS email verification template on it at the time of deletion. You can click the "you may request request undeletion" link on your talk page if you wish to the image to be restored. --Lord Belbury (talk) 17:13, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright Image Notice[edit]

According to Google, I am allowed to include an attributed Google Earth Screen shot, as long as it is attributed and meets their required. This is their commentary on it. Please, what is the issue with my image?

https://about.google/brand-resource-center/products-and-services/geo-guidelines/#required-attribution CALAYUGAN (talk) 20:43, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@CALAYUGAN: Google's general guidelines for Google Earth output (https://about.google/brand-resource-center/products-and-services/geo-guidelines/#general-guidelines) are that "you’re welcome to export and use a handful of static images, with proper attribution, for non-commercial purposes such as news, blogs, educational, recreational, or instructional use."
The "non-commercial purposes" requirement is not compatible with Commons:Licensing. It's incorrect for you to upload such an image claiming it to be CC-Attribution, allowing commercial reuse. --Lord Belbury (talk) 20:55, 11 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Angus Gill performance (cropped).jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Angus Gill performance (cropped).jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:21, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@EugeneZelenko: Not sure what you're asking for here. It's a crop of a photo that the original uploader claims to be their own picture, presumably taken from a seat in the audience at a performance. --Lord Belbury (talk) 14:25, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I tagged both original and cropped version. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:29, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@EugeneZelenko: And what do you want me to do? --Lord Belbury (talk) 14:45, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is how deletion widget works. By the way, in future you could also try to match user name and credits in EXIF before making derivative works. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:48, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@EugeneZelenko: Will do, I didn't think to look there, as the photograph seemed quite a mundane one. Out of interest, is EXIF generally considered sufficient for tagging no-permission? I'd usually put that kind of file up for a formal deletion discussion, on the grounds that if it was just tagged no-permission a closing admin might not realise what I was getting at and close it as keep based on the summary box claiming own work. --Lord Belbury (talk) 15:02, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Two other uploads on this user were album covers. User name and credit in EXIF didn't correlate in this photo. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:04, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@EugeneZelenko: A deletion verdict depending on other uploads seems like more reason to use a formal deletion discussion, not less! I didn't think admins were required to do that much research to close an expired no-permission, but I'm not an admin so don't fully understand the process. --Lord Belbury (talk) 15:08, 29 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Crungus Images 3x3 uploaded by me[edit]

Dear Lord Belburry,

I appreciate it that you keep an eye on the uploads and so you nominated my images File:Crungus.jpg, File:Chrungus.jpg, File:Krungus.jpg, File:Grungus.jpg and File:Qrungus.jpg to be deleted because it should be Commons:Derivative works. I can assure you, it is not! I need those images to make a point inside my article draft https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Crungus So please could you revert your decision? Thanks a lot!

IOOI (talk) 16:14, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@IOOI: Hi there. The problem is just that we don't know where you got the images from! You only say "AI generated image", which isn't specific enough: we need to be able to check that the software you used doesn't have a restrictive licence about reusing its output. If you update the file description to include the software, you can remove the {{Dw no source since}} templates. --Lord Belbury (talk) 16:18, 30 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Lord Belbury would it be enough if I mention the app that imagery was created with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.womboai.wombodream&hl=en&gl=US enough? I can't find any legal stuff on their website https://www.wombo.art/
IOOI (talk) 03:09, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@IOOI: Yes, that's all it needs. Other users can decide whether the content counts as public domain or not. --Lord Belbury (talk) 09:27, 1 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Dear @Lord Belbury,
you've tagged another image as derivative work, because this image contains multiple images at once. I can assure you, that the composite image was not derived but created as it is at once, you can try this on your own, just download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.womboai.wombodream&hl=en&gl=US or https://apps.apple.com/de/app/dream-by-wombo-ai-art-tool/id1586366816 and try yourself, just select the "Meme"-art-style for this type of multiple image and generate your own images without "deriving" work. Could you please be so kind and retract your deletion request? Thank you very much, IOOI (talk) 21:00, 27 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@IOOI: Hi again, I didn't make the link to this earlier conversation, I was just reading the article over at Wikipedia, wondered where the image was taken from and saw that the Commons page failed to specify, so flagged it up.
I see now that you tried to add a source, but in a way that didn't show up on the page in any way (the "other fields" option doesn't exist, and the {{Image generation}} template isn't meant to be used like that). I'll fix that up. --Belbury (talk) 12:58, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bement Crest[edit]

Hi there - you marked an upload of a school crest (File:Bement School Crest.png) for deletion as copyright violation. My question is how do other schools have theirs on their pages? Umass Amherst has their seal loaded up and below it says fair use. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Massachusetts_Amherst#/media/File:University_of_Massachusetts_Amherst_seal.svg I'm new to this. Do I just have the school email permission? Thanks Ktmacc2 (talk) 20:28, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Ktmacc2: Fair use is absolutely the key. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:University_of_Massachusetts_Amherst_seal.svg is a file hosted on Wikipedia itself, and Wikipedia has a fair use policy. Over here at Wikimedia Commons we don't allow fair use uploads (see COM:FAIRUSE for an explanation why).
So you can upload it to Wikipedia as fair use. Just go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:File_Upload_Wizard. --Lord Belbury (talk) 20:31, 13 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of File:Screenshot-of-an-app-on-kaios.png[edit]

Hello. I've noticed the photo I just uploaded has become subject to deletion due to copyright issues. This screenshot is taken from a FOSS app. So I think its screenshot can be free as the app is? Perhaps I have to prove something? I am new to uploading anyway. --Farooqkz (talk) 16:57, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Farooqkz: Hello, and thanks for clarifying. The description just says "a chat app on KaiOS". I'll take the deletion template off, but you should update the file description to be clearer about what the app is and (if possible) a link to its licence in the permission= field. Belbury (talk) 17:10, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It has been done. Please let me know if any other change must be done as well. --Farooqkz (talk) 17:24, 25 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Images copyright[edit]

Deanston OS map extract[edit]

Hi Belbury

You flagged up that you thought the Licence attribution on my use of an OS map extract from the NLS was not correct.

I replied as follows:

"This is part of an Ordnance Survey map from circa 1900, and as such it is in the Public Domain, as long out of Copyright. However it is extracted from the National Library of Scotland website, who allow reuse of material under the CC-BY licence, as long as an acknowledgement is made of the source. As such, I believe I could have put the image up simply as 'Public Domain', but as a courtesy to the NLS source it seems more correct to acknowledge them, which I have. If someone thinks the CC-BY-4.0 licence is wrong, perhaps they would like to change it? Thanks ArchaicW (talk) 17:43, 5 January 2023 (UTC)"

But I've not heard back from you to see if you agree with this wording?

Seems to me that either the CC-BY licence or Public Domain could be correct? NLS allow reuse of their marvellous online collection of maps, as long as acknowledgment is made, but if you put it up as 'Public Domain', then a source attribution is maybe not correct!

Would be good to hear fom you, as I don't want to go ahead and use the map without being sure that the Licence attribution is OK. Thanks ArchaicW (talk) 17:25, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@ArchaicW: Hello, afraid I didn't see your reply, the image wasn't on my watchlist. If the National Library of Scotland says it's CC-BY then that sounds fine, feel free to remove the problem template. Maybe add a link to the relevant page of their website in the Example text field of the Information template to make it clear. --Belbury (talk) 18:14, 7 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks very much, Belbury ArchaicW (talk) 15:29, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ArchaicW: No problem. And I don't know why that came out as Example text, I meant "permission="... --Belbury (talk) 15:31, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Belbury Thanks, I've added a link to the NLS website. I've also extended a sentence to make it clearer that the letters are added by me, the uploader, and not by the NLS. I'd quite like to remove the 'Copyright' template - but I can't see how to do it! As always, it seems with Wikipedia, there are pages and pages of "Help", but I can never find the right bit! Is it possible you could do it, or tell me what to do? I'd be very grateful. Best wishes ArchaicW (talk) 16:44, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@ArchaicW: All done! Templates are the sections of the page between double curly braces, in this case it was just a matter of removing the {{Wrong licence}} from the top of the file page. Belbury (talk) 16:52, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! So simple! Must be my brain . . Many thanks! ArchaicW (talk) 17:29, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Question[edit]

Thanks for tagging my uploads for WP:CSD. Could you check whether any of my other uploads need deletion (I've tagged G7 for one of the files) due to copyvios? File:RNC de Boumort.jpg[edit]

Recently you advised me about some files may be deleted (maps derivate from the Catalan ICGC repository, under CC BY 4.0 license).

It was true that I didn’t mention the origin of the map (assuming that it was under CC BY 4.0 license) and, following the advice, I added the information about “Permission (Reusing the file)”, from where the base map was taken, and the webpage that says we are free to reuse these works under CC BY 4.0.

Also I posted a note, in my discussion, explaining my steps for arrange the mistake. Then, I was confident that I did the right things and the files may not be deleted. But finally I seen that these files are deleted by User: Krd (don't care about the explanations I gave).

In my upload page I uploaded another maps, similar to the ones deleted, writing now the attribution of the base map from the beginning. I use them in the catalan Wikipedia to explain how different layers of natural protected areas can overlap between them. In order to no repeat the mistakes that I did it, the question is:

  • Can I upload again files like the deleted ones if I put the attribution that way?
  • Must be they deleted too?
  • Why the other files were deleted if I added the attribution of the previous work?

Thank you in advace for your attention. Gerarcalis (talk) 14:34, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Gerarcalis: Hello. Sorry to say I can't see the permission statements on the deleted files, so I can't advise on whether they were correctly stated or not, or what the problem might have been. I'd suggest taking it up with the admin who deleted them on the 13th. Belbury (talk) 14:53, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the answer, the permision are exactly the same that now I put en the other maps, currently available in my upload page: for example File:Rnc cerdanya urgell cadi.jpg, like this:
|permission=Map derived from the topographical map of Catalonia 1:25,000 from l’ (ICGC), under license CC BY 4.0”. https://www.icgc.cat/en/The-ICGC/Public-Information/Transparency/Re-use-of-the-information |Institut Cartogràfic i Geològic de Catalunya
It's enough with this attribution to avoid future deletions? Gerarcalis (talk) 15:02, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Gerarcalis: Looks okay to me. But if the other images were deleted, there may be a problem with it, I'd check with the admin. --Belbury (talk) 15:13, 27 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Croatia 925: You should always specify the source. In the case of a photo of a TV show it would presumably have to be deleted as a copyright violation, though. --Belbury (talk) 14:26, 21 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

How useful?[edit]

Hi, how usefull you think is it, to marking a file twice as copyright infrigement? Lukas Beck (talk) 15:12, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@L. Beck: Hi. Quite useful, I think? You marked it as lacking essential source material, giving the uploader a seven day grace period to identify the copyright holder and confirm that they had released it under the CC-Attribution licence that's being claimed. I could see it was a Coldplay album cover and marked it as an obvious copyright violation, so that it could instead be deleted immediately. This user has clearly just uploaded a lot of 2000s album sleeves which are obviously copyrighted. Belbury (talk) 15:20, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong deletion[edit]

Dear Belbury!

He deleted the old logos of Misi YT Music and Misi YT Logo Evolution without prior notice, thereby undermining the past of Mihály Tirpák and its predecessor, the Misi YT channel family. Please take this into consideration because you do not know the channel's family history.

I apologize for the copyright violations[edit]

Hi! I'm new to Wikipedia. I am not professional or skilled and I don't know much. I am still learning how to use wikis. Recently, I got some alerts about some copyright violations which I accidently committed. I did not commit any of these copyright violations intentionally. I'm still new and I didn't know how to use Wikipedia commons properly. I have since learned and tried to fix most of the copyright violations which I accidently committed. I hope you will pardon me for my mistakes and unprofessionalism. Asaduzzaman Khan Shahriar (talk) 16:54, 23 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Asaduzzaman Khan Shahriar: Mistakes are understandable! The main problem here is not that you failed to specify which websites you downloaded the pictures from, it's that these images are copyrighted. You can't upload them to Commons and state that they are CC-Attribution licenced, when the websites have not licenced them in this way. Belbury (talk) 07:49, 24 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Beetle pitfall trap with stones.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Fritz Feigl and Johanna Döbereiner[edit]

Hello, I've recently uploaded headshots for Fritz Feigl and Johanna Döbereiner that I found at https://www.pas.va/en/academicians/deceased/feigl.html and https://www.pas.va/en/academicians/deceased/doebereiner.html. You've tagged these two images with a "This media file is missing evidence of permission" tag. If you check those two links and scroll to the very bottom of the page, you can see that they are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International License. I've tried to make this clear in the Fritz Feigl talk page, but I guess that isn't the right place to put that. Is this the right place to "provide evidence of permission by either providing a link to a site with an explicit release under a free license" or should I direct this statement elsewhere? Hi Belbury! I am new here and try to make close study of Wikipedia's rules. If i understand correct i must ask special letter-promission from the owner for all files? Thanks in advance for help! I've got this letter from you:

Thanks for uploading File:Пятерка бубен Погонщики туч.jpg. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{Permission pending}} on file description page. Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you. Pshesha (talk) 08:10, 6 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Yeeno (talk) 16:25, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Yeeno: Was that initial deletion correct? Wouldn't a no-permission need some implication that the image might e somebody else's work, such as it showing up on other, older websites? I thought we took selfies at face value rather than requiring the subject to send an email confirming that it was them. Belbury (talk) 17:15, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Pay attention to copyright
File:Mary Trump.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added may soon be deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please replace the copyvio tag with {{subst:OP}} and have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you disagree that the file is a copyright violation for any other reason, please replace the copyvio tag with a regular deletion request.

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Permission to use you Emoji representation of the Wong-Baker scale at my facility?[edit]

Hello, and Good Morning,

I very much like your rendition of the scale over the traditional faces. Would I be able to use your Emoji representation on a introductory form in my medical facility? I unfortunately cannot give credit on the form since it will be presented to patients and distributed in the facility, but I obviously would NOT be taking credit for it either as the drawing is not my work. If this is not okay with you, I understand and please let me know. I am not opposed to creating a design myself but I rather do like your rendition. 76.75.16.80 18:04, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Marchjuly: You can click the "More" link where it says "5 years ago | More" under the title, to see the licence. Thanks for checking! Belbury (talk) 08:51, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I found it. Perhaps you should add that to the file's description in case anyone tries to find the license. -- Marchjuly (talk) 10:40, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's not an unusual Vimeo page, they're all like that. Belbury (talk) 11:56, 6 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

PierreCollet-1966-Italie.png[edit]

Hello Belbury,

Hope you have a nice day. As I wrote about this file, I ony use Photoshop and its filters to correct or modify the pictures. I never use an A.I. application.

Best regards. Tisourcier (talk) 17:11, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Tisourcier: Thank you for clarifying! I was in two minds about the Collet photo and couldn't find the exact frame to compare it to, but after seeing File:YvesMourousi-Toulouse-1983.png (and knowing that AI often has some difficulty with eyeglasses) I assumed you must have used some kind of AI that had taken a low resolution source and increased both image size and visible detail.
I'm not too familiar with Photoshop's available filters - is it possible that you've used the AI "neural filter" or anything like that, on these images, when increasing their resolution? Belbury (talk) 19:26, 21 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Tisourcier: And to you! Also, do let me know what you think about the AI question above. --Belbury (talk) 09:22, 4 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

New Article, New Editor...[edit]

@Belbury, Your input regarding the use of one of my photo's was a big help. Do you do any "mentor" work here on wiki? Wdallen49 (talk) 18:12, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Wdallen49: I'm not aware of any formal mentorship system here, but if you've got any questions, feel free to ask them! Belbury (talk) 18:13, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Belbury Thanks. The article is User:Wdallen49/Bobbie_R._Allen but I'm still working (struggling) on citations. BTW, you likely can tell from the article links but the subject is my father... Wdallen49 (talk) 18:19, 5 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Wdallen49: I just took a look at it and fixed the two citations that weren't working with this edit: [4]
You can see from the edit that you just basically had the brackets wrong, and were missing "cite web". Hope that helps! Belbury (talk) 17:00, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

RE: File:Playa Popular y Rambla, Mar del Plata, 1969.jpg[edit]

Hi, Belbury. I don't know what kind of authorization I'm supposed to send via OTRS. Those pictures are from my personal archive, since they belong to my family, as well as the people who appear in them and who shot the camera. They are a family heirloom, which, to the extent they fall within the scope of Commons, I am gradually uploading. Regards, Banfield - Amenazas aquí 20:09, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Banfield: Ah! If they're family that sounds fine, it was just that you'd described them as "Unknown author". I read that as meaning you'd acquired the photos perhaps second-hand and didn't know who took them, but were uploading them to illustrate the location. I'll revert the permission notices, but feel free to update the descriptions. Belbury (talk) 20:20, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your answer, I' ll try to be more specific with the descriptions. --Banfield - Amenazas aquí 21:11, 15 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tomahawks and War bonnets[edit]

Hi. Why did you cancel two of my edits? I will inform you beforehand that I am the author of the fundamental articles "Crown of Feathers" (that is, warbonnet) and "Tomahawk" in the Russian-language Wikipedia. That's why I know what I'm doing. In addition, it was I who put things in order (although I was sometimes interrupted) on Wikimedia Commons on the topic of crafts and household items of North American Indians (I'm not talking about anything else). Now about these two pictures. That axe is not a tomahawk from any side. This is a modern product that modern blacksmiths produce by the thousands. If you put them on Wikimedia Commons, they will completely overwhelm it. Moreover, they will fill up with their number of images of real Indian tomahawks, of which there are not so many. The author himself called his product at once a francisca, a tomahawk, a throwing axe, and a battle axe. But in reality it's just a souvenir item. At best, a tourist axe. That is, it has nothing to do with Indian tomahawks. About the headdress on a European girl with tattooed legs and lace panties. Will you not claim that this is an Indian chief, an honored warrior, or just a modern Indian? So the hat on her head is not an Indian honorary regalia, but a Chinese mass souvenir. In China and Thailand, thousands of them are produced and sold in any country. They are easily recognizable by the stripe of crosses above the forehead and by the feathers from a wide variety of local birds available to Asian producers. So think about whether you did the right thing… Сергей 6662 (talk) 21:14, 16 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Your deletion nomination of motion blur photos[edit]

You nominated some photos from the Category:Intentional camera movement for deletion but you limited the files for deletion to the photos of User:XRay. Can you explain why you are nominating all photos of one photographer on one topic for deletion but no photos of other photographers on the same topic? GPSLeo (talk) 16:15, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@GPSLeo: Easily! I didn't start from that category.
I was looking through recent uploads, saw what seemed like an unusably blurred photo in there and checked the users uploads. It looked like a minority of their recent uploads had such camera movement (some alongside entirely unblurred photos of the same subject), and the older ones didn't, so I just flagged those ones for deletion. Belbury (talk) 16:23, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If you checked for the users uploads you also might have seen that he is one of the most active photographers on Commons and within the ones with the most featured pictures. Why did you not ask the user on the talk page before starting a deletion request? Deletion requests for scope reasons within the most active users without prior discussion are very uncommon. GPSLeo (talk) 16:29, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I hadn't encountered that etiquette on Commons before, I'll bear it in mind. Belbury (talk) 16:45, 10 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, I see you did not have any bad intentions. Do you want to keep your deletion request? If not you can just write that you want to withdraw the request on the request page. GPSLeo (talk) 16:21, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
You really should have started with the assumption that I didn't have any bad intentions. I want to keep the request open, thanks. Belbury (talk) 16:35, 11 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Observance of Labour Day in UK[edit]

Hey, you changed the UK on File:Observance of International Workers' Day RGBY.svg from yellow to green, and I just wanted to check on that - we don't have any public holiday named Labour Day, but the early May bank holiday can fall on 1st May depending on the day of the week, so we should be yellow on there?
