All of these images come from Joe Moore who is a public official and has given me explicit permission to upload these photos to wikipedia. If you could please explain where I can go to demonstrate that I have this authority I would much appreciate it. As I wrote in the description, the picture was made by myself and it is a vector render of a poster from 1913. The file "Arnstein Aassve.jpg" which has been marked as a possible copyright violation by you is actually a picture of Prof. Arnstein Aassve taken from Aassve's secretary in the Grafton Building of Bocconi University. Originally the picture was taken for the IFAMID's website which is managed by Prof. Aassve [1]. I talked to both him and her to ask if I could use this picture and upload it on wikimedia. She told me to do it and that she did not want to have any claim to the picture. What can I do to ensure that the picture can be used? Hi Patrick, As I 'm beginner, I don't know how to send the written declaration as an author for this pictures. I took this pictures when Sarah Cohen Scali come in my Middle school to speak to my pupils about her book "Max". The background of the picture is still the same in the school library. And I can show another picture with S. Cohen Scali and the pupils but it's not the place to show this kind of pic in Wikipedia. What do I do ? I don't understand the problem : Sarah Cohen-Scali is a public people and the picture was taken during a professional activity. She knows we made photos. Pas du tout, la vidéo a été publiée par la chaîne youtube de France 3 Grand Est, dans laquelle il est bien précisé que les images filmées au Mali viennent d'un reportage. La vidéo a été importée sur youtube avec la licence Creative Commons CC BY. Ces images peuvent donc parfaitement être importées sur Wikimedia Commons avec la même licence. Non, une demande de suppression immédiate n'est pas acceptable, je n'ai pas envie tout recommencer parce qu'un admin aura supprimé le fichier sans vérifier (comme il arrive parfois). Wrong use of the {{No source since}} template

Please do not use {{No source since}} if a file clearly has a source, like you did here and in other cases. Use {{Speedy}} in case of clear copyright violations (which this wasn't) or regular deletion requests in other cases. See also this discussion. As for this image, it is basically an ownership of the Saudi Ministry of Media and it is not an ownership of that site, which you have mentioned, however this image is under the ownership of official Saudi government authority. The article the photo is going into, w:Mandore (instrument), is an appropriate place. Once she added the photo to commons, I would have placed the photo in that article myself, if it wasn't already done. Hi Patrick, I saw you tagged my new photo -which is my own work- for quick deletion, because you apparently found a similar (NOT THE SAME) photo on https://www.mireya.nl/?p=50# Folder : Media then Fotoshoot. I have seen a similar (but not the same) photo there. That is very well possible as I am her photographer and copyright owner / intellectual owner of this particular photo series (in the green dress and with a castle in the background). I made a series of photos, sent her one to put on her own web site (and it'll be probably somewhere on her Facebook or Instagram too), and we agreed to use one (from the same series) for a Wiki page. I don't think it is copyright violation if I (copyright owner, owner of the intellectual property) and the lady in the picture (owner of her web site) agree that she can use my photos AND we agree to use one photo from the series on Wiki. That's our business decision.

What do you want me to do? I need this photo online to start creating a Wiki page. - Should I send over my camera so you can check the pictures are still on there? - Can you also please describe the steps you followed and what you investigated before concluding that MY OWN WORK is violating anyone's copyright? Did you -for example- send an email / contact form to www.mireya.nl and ask if Deeben Media & Services is the photographer of the work, and if it was agreed to post the work to Wikimedia Commons?

I'm looking forward to your reply. In the mean time I have asked Miréya to remove the photo you referred to, but I feel this is the other way around as I am basically required to upload a unique, yet unpublished picture so anyone can start using it and spread it all across the Internet.

I shoot my own photos, I edit them, I upload them and yet it's not good. It's getting kind of frustrating to spend 2 evenings on this.

Hello Patrick. I have seen you are taking the time to look at the files that are being uploaded in the context of the GLAM-Wiki Initiative with the Brazilian National Archives. I am actually learning as we go, as I am mostly familiar with Brazilian law, and the decisions that are being made on files this cultural institution has sent us is actually helpful. At the same time, I am sorry this is taking so much of your time. The goal of this initiative is of course to contribute meaningfully and positively. From what I am learning as we go, I have been taking out from the upload set from 15% to 20% of the images I receive. I was wondering if you'd have time to check before I run the upload what images you feel might be problematic. I could contact you through here and share with you available metadata (normally metadata will look something like [5]. The yellow cells indicate images that were possibly problematic). The French site that's making use of the William Boyle press photo appears to be a secondary user, not a copyright holder. Looking at booknode.com, anyone can freely add to or delete pictures from that site. There are no copyright provisions or licensing procedures involved, unlike Wikimedia Commons. The actual copyright holder appears to be the one who did the upload to Wikimedia Commons. My suggestion is that the deletion request be withdrawn until the uploader's contribution is duly recognized by the Commons process. Your flag came almost immediately after the upload. I originally thought you had tagged multiple images however I've found out you've only tagged one which could easily be considered a mistake (and had I known it was one image I would've suggested the thread be closed),
The lack of sleep has certainly played a huge part in today's comments although that's still no justification,

@Jcb: Wrong. While that is the purpose of a license review, Patrick Rogel is not a license reviewer and shouldn't make that judgment when a review was requested in good faith. It doesn't even matter if he was right in this case, you don't want me to randomly start closing DRs, even if I did it flawless. On some sites the license can be very hard to spot. That's why we have license reviewers. This actually makes it worse: Patrick tagged File:Daniele Ganser 4.jpg as "no permission" when it already had a license review. This is completely unacceptable and Patrick Rogel should explain this.

@Jeff G.: "no permission" or a DR could be acceptable (when you do it, because you are a license reviewer). But since some have a license review, it'll have to be a DR.

I left them for a while (actually over 6 hours - rather long for a speedy), no one changed it to a DR - the speedy template clearly says "Appeal: If you think that the file does not meet the criteria for speedy deletion, please open a regular deletion request and remove this template." In my opinion, if sombody write, you could use picture a picture without, paying and only say, you must attribute the author, this must include the commercial use, because for the legal text of the of CC BY 4.0 include in no way the word "commercial", but it allow commercial use if conditions are accepted (like CC BY-NC allows all commercial uses if all conditiond are accepted --> If you use it in non-commercial way). Also I thing use, means use. If use, means you couldn't make deratives of this work, you could use it in no way, because making deratives of the work is only one way use of much. Like reproduce is only one way of use. So if somebody say, you could use a work with the only condition, that you must attribute the author, this means you could use in all ways, if you be sure, that the author always will be attributed. • it's unique as it is a Polaroid image,
• it hasn't been previously published,
• she is the sole owner of its copyright.
• on the file page she has licensed it under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license.

Files of Brazilian Army

Hello, Patrick! I really uploaded some photos very similar of ones that are deleted recently. In my understanding, they are in public domain. They belong to the List of Commanders of Regimento Deodoro, a Brazilian Army military unit. They can be found at http://www.2gacl.eb.mil.br/index.php/comando/ex-comandantes. I made some changes to prepare then better for visualisation.

There are no indications of authory in the site. The other time I uploaded then, I made a mistake by supposing that there was an author and you deleted then.

Therefore, she has an article on Serbian Wikipedia, where these images are used. The File:2017 European Athletics Indoor Championships - awards ceremony.jpg is used on Serbian and German Wikipedia. So, the images definitely are not out of scope. I’ve left work for the day and am typing on an iPod from home. Unfortunately I don’t have my password handy so I cannot log in to my Wikipedia account from home.

The three pictures flagged as possible copyright violations (photos of Ian Goldberg, Lila Kari and Srinivasan Keshav) were all taken by me. I took the pictures for announcements that I posted on the David R. Cheriton School of Computer Science’s website. I used the same pictures for their respective info-boxes on Wikipedia.

I did check the box that I am the owner of the works. Is something else required?

Regarding deletion of the image

Thank you for bringing in notice regarding the painting images https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Painting_of_Gopabandhu_Das.jpg. I have tried to reach the museum and get the copyright owner of the images. But the images are no more at the museum and they are not sure about where the paintings are.

What do you suggest? I have currently put delete tags on the similar images. These are very old images not very old to got to public license though and it is hard to race the owner. According to his/her flickr statement, everything on his/her site is posted under a free license or cc-zero. An earlier version of the image is available here; I've added this source information to the file description. Hello Patrick, I noticed that you marked as unsourced this file. That caused the file to be deleted by @Jcb: . But, actually, a simple search on Flickr would be sufficient to find out that the file was licenced with cc-by-sa-2.0 (here) by its legitimate owner Roz Galloway and wasn't to be deleted. A little bit of more carefulness would prevents us from doing some extra work. I know that it's easy to report as unsourced a file, but in my opinion is "better to light a candle than to curse the darkness" meaning that is better to look for a valid source rather than give in soon withouth looking for it. What I know about Iranian law is here: the 30 years period is for work published so you must find evidence that this work has been published more than 30 years ago (The BBC article dates back of 2018). Second Commons doesn't accept permission from third parties so at least a permission from the heirs of Ali Mohammad Khademi is needed although, idealy, a permission from the photographer(s) is needed. Deletion requests for these files

Dear Patrick, I'm working as Wikipedian in Residence as a part of GLAM project until the end of January in the Theatre Museum of Vojvodina and they have released their photos under free license. When I upload all of the photos they will sign an official licence and that is why I put template:OTRS pending on every photo. As user Корак по корак explained, she is working as Wikipedian in residence in this institution, under the supervision of Wikimedia Serbia. This museum is releasing the photos from their archive, which is a slow process, but in 30 days top, permission arrives. Like in 14 residences realized by now (without a single Commons or OTRS issue). Besides that, this is a project of Wikimedia Serbia - we would never let someone to upload files without permission. One more thing. Can you please point me to the page where is written the rule that OTRS pendig can use only administrators? And finally, why the images are deleted, if they had an OTRS pending template, witch can stay for 193 days? Please, bring back files on Commons. They are personal photos of my late father and I do hve all hard copies of such pics. As you know photos in the 70s were only hard ones. I scanned them and in all of them my father is part of the picture. none of these have any copy write privilege. they are more than 40 years old and considered as for public use. hope this closes the subject and my photos are back on. regards, mohfouadeg

@1989: Patrick does a lot of good work and I have the sense he improved his work after some initial errors were pointed out, but I think administrators need to communicate more with users. Oh, I only deleted NP with makes an auto-delete after 7 days. So an administrator can not close the debate, as no debate exists. Unless a DR is filed. Since you have not read the info regarding the file you tag, and not investigated, you miss vital information. I have marked that info in the Discussion comment. You should probably have files a DR insetad (of NP or ND). Please feel free to file a DR, I included enough basis and comments for you to file a substantiated DR. I am not going to file a DR. hello again! I saw you deleted the WFUNA 70 logo in the end. I was saying (here) that the logo is exaclty the same as It just has a 70 added to it. If the main logo is not under copyright it is difficult to say this one is. Let say you add that "70" to a coca cola logo for example. Will coca cola consider it is a different logo? I'm a little new with this and It's not clear to me what I should add to what I already specified (I took the picture myself, and it's my own portrait in fact). You mention that Institut Cochin used this picture, and I agree since I gave them this picture for the annoucement of a seminar of me I did a few months ago, but I do have all copyrights of this picture, I just lended it to them.

Hai Here you mentioned about the lack of permission. I fail to understand the deletion tag for not providing the permission. Hello. Why i have a warning on my talk page? Indeed, It doesn't have a permission to upload, but uploading it for the elections is a different matter. Anyways, the author is the one who created the images, and it was spread on all or Marilao. That means it is a pre-campaign, and it was in public domain. Hi Patrick,

Nice to meet you. I'm writing about two files I recently uploaded of Mariana Bandhold, a portuguese singer:

Both files were taken from her instagram. I received a notification that these files are "missing evidence of permission", but the sources of both files, which are instagram posts, both contain explicit captions saying: "This photo is free to share and adapt with the requirement of attribution under a Creative Commons license (CC BY S.A. 20)". This is the first time I've come into this situation so I wondered if you might help me in telling me what to do next to ensure these files are not deleted. Their sources explicitly state their free Commons licenses, so should I just remove the deletion templates? Or is there another procedure to follow? I appreciate any help you can offer.
