Robert Aldrich, American film director[edit]

Why was the infobox image of Robert Aldrich (Wikipedia article) removed? You posted "has been deleted from Commons by Jcb because." and no further link I could locate. CerroFerro (talk) 16:38, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The file was nominated for deletion with this comment: "Links doesn't prove files have been published in the United States between 1923 and 1977 without a copyright notice. - Missing permission." - Jcb (talk) 16:42, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Does this image provide the required proof? https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Grant,_Cary_(Suspicion)_01_Crisco_edit.jpg CerroFerro (talk) 19:08, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Maybe. You could file an undeletion request and somebody will have a look. I myself normally skip undeletion requests in this specific area, there are people around with way more knowledge about US copyright. Jcb (talk) 21:24, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You tagged the files as {OTRS received}, although you are not an OTRS agent. Don't do that again. Jcb (talk) 23:11, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Look at these advice that I have received. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ID007NS (talk • contribs) 23:56, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately that advice was erroneous. Jcb (talk) 23:59, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
So undelete all files that you have deleted. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ID007NS (talk • contribs) 00:03, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
As soon as an OTRS agent handles a valid permission, they will take care of undeletion. Jcb (talk) 00:05, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
When will it be? Deleting files as punishment is not advised by Wikipedia rules ID007NS (talk) 00:08, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
File:Драго Дивљак.jpg [Ticket#2018102610006036] was released by OTRS agent
and File:Милана Писарић.jpg [Ticket#: 2018102410006049] also. ID007NS (talk) 00:20, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I did not remove the files as 'punishment'. I remove files with fraudulous permission templates because they cause legal risk to our project. Reusers must be able to trust that a trusted OTRS agent has looked at the situation if they see an official OTRS template. I don't know when an OTRS agent will handle the ticket. Hello. Yesterday you deleted the file File:Shoukyokusai teniti itiza.jpg. Deleted image[edit]

Hello, my picture of red.prof.dr.sc.Vlado Pandžić was deleted by you even though I explained I have the rights to use that picture. The man portrayed personally gave me the right to post his picture and Filozofski fakultet sveučilišta u Zagrebu (his image was already on their website because he gave them his permission) doesn't hold any rights to his picture. Prof.dr.sc. Vlado Pandžić even gave his permission for public use of that picture long ago.My explanation was ignored and I waited three days to find no response. I am asking you to publish it back, I also don't know the procedure so all I want is help. I hope you will not ignore me like others and I fully understand this was your job so no hard feelings. I just want to know the details of the procedure to take back his image. ~ Vijavica (talk) 08:11, 3 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Permission in principle has to come from the photographer, not from the depicted person. Please ask the photographer to contact OTRS to provide permission. Jcb (talk) 09:55, 3 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

PromFest images[edit]

Hi! What is the meaning of "no permission" for the following images? Google cache shows that they all have reference to an OTRS ticket. It seems that all uploads of given user were tagged as "no permission" while earlier uploads actually have a permission. Here the nominator admits that one made a mistake regarding one image. It seems that the same applys to the following images. In this case please restore them. Otherwise, if there are actual concerns about OTRS tickets, then I believe this should be clarified in a regular deletion request.

I couldn't check the following image, but it likely has a permission as two other images uploaded on the same day by the same user do have a permission:

--Pikne 08:45, 3 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I checked the OTRS tickets of several of the files and I concluded that these tickets should never have been accepted. Apparently the organizer of the event thinks that they are the copyright holder of any picture taken at the event. Jcb (talk) 10:08, 3 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough, but since permissions were initially accepted then I assume the uploader isn't aware of this problem, right? As an OTRS agent, could you please follow up the OTRS correspondence and write about it to the uploader, so that one could seek for proper permissions? Pikne 11:45, 3 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That would be a large task, because they produced a separate ticket for each file. And the chances for success are small, combined with a high risk for false authorship claims. Involved uploader uploaded several more copyright violations without even a ticket. Jcb (talk) 15:12, 3 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Original Work[edit]

You recently blanked all images I have ever uploaded, including multiple original photos of firearms. Two examples have since been reuploaded, as I continue to search for others that may have been lost. Please do not so carelessly do that, as they were being used on their wikipedia pages. Thank you. Drassow (talk) 20:35, 4 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The result of a simple reverse image search tells that there is no reason to believe that these pictures are your own work. Don't reupload deleted files! Jcb (talk) 21:27, 4 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@JCB: I have multiple image of the precise firearms, as they are mine, including the licence for the Star BM. I find it offensive that you accuse my own work of not being as such. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Drassow (talk • contribs) 21:41, 4 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I gave Jcb a hint. Jcb didn't take it, instead he reverted my edit saying "removing nonsense comment". Well, I'll bite. What exactly did that reverse image search of yours turn up Jcb? Don't be selfish, share some results. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 21:45, 4 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Almost all uploads of this user where easy detectable copyright violations. Of the two files they clandestinely reuploaded, one gave dozens of hits, including several at full resolution predating upload here. Both files lack camera exif. If the files are really own work, they can contact OTRS and send the original file from their camera for verification. Jcb (talk) 21:54, 4 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Happily rolling back I see. You didn't give any link. I can understand, there aren't any, so how could you provide one? - Alexis Jazz ping plz 22:25, 4 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You think I'm bullying you. All I asked for is a single link, and if you would have provided one, I would apologize to you and tell Drassow to never upload copyvios again and how disappointed I am. I would even call for a block if it would appear they have been lying about all this. But.. you don't have a link. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 22:42, 4 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
He won't post a link because he doesn't have one. It should be very obvious that Jcb just wants to abuse his power, as I have already pointed out he has been blatantly lying. Drassow (talk) 22:46, 4 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

All the videos on this channel have a cc license. At the time of upload video2commons generated the wikitext with the cc information. Vera (talk) 05:19, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The source video of this one has no CC license. The file had a failed license review. Jcb (talk) 06:56, 26 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is a clear reason the license for the video changed: the producers had used a copyrighted version of the US anthem in the end part of the video. As you can see in its the description Epidemic Sound Publishing made a copyright claim against that recording. The publication here on Commons I recut with a different recording of the national anthem that does have a free license. Vera (talk) 12:06, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That may be or may not be the case, but without a successful license review I don't know. Jcb (talk) 15:40, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Category:1940 in Champagne-Ardenne[edit]

Bonjour Jcb, pourquoi supprimer Category:1940 in Champagne-Ardenne ? Cordialement Garitan (talk) 14:01, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Olybrius: Can you answer this question? Jcb (talk) 15:46, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
These cats are anachronisms created by Garitan. 'Champagne-Ardenne' is a recent administrative region that was created only in 1956, just Like 'Marne' department that was created after the French Revolution, so stuff like '1553 in Marne' is anachronistic as well and should be deleted. We discussed the matter on the French Bistro and others agreed with me but Garitan doesn't seem to understand and/or care and stubbornly wants to stick with these anachronisms. - Olybrius (talk) 17:47, 7 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Tram in Arnhem 1922[edit]

Question about deleting my files without copyright[edit]

Good day! You deleted files that are my property and to which I did not impose copyright restrictions. Here are the files File:Kostanchuk_and_Semenchenko.jpg and File:Kostanchuk_Taras_Dmitrovych.jpg One photo is an official photo session for the press. To post it do not need permission. The second photo is also a photo for the press and I did not impose copyright on it. How can I return photos for pages? Best regards, Pa30T (talk) 10:16, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This is some kind of mistake. Even if you try to find these photos in search engines, you can only find them in the cache of Wikipedia pages. This is my property, on which I do not put restrictions. Let everyone who needs it use it. I can send the original images to your email for you can make sure that I am the creator and owner of this content. Best regards, Pa30T (talk) 10:54, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you are the photographer, why is the camera metadata missing? Jcb (talk) 11:10, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Absence of embedded metadata is no policy-based reason for deletion. Especially not when you don't seem to have raised this as an issue before their deletion. Andy Dingley (talk) 13:59, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the help in the situation. I've been trying to find photos with metadata for several hours. Can I upload a photo again? For me it is very important, because I am waiting for the approval of the page in English (it has already been approved in Ukrainian). I would like my pages to be beautiful and useful, so I never violate anyone's rights and Wikipedia rules. Best regards, Pa30T (talk) 15:43, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Andy is just confusing the case. Absence of EXIF is an indication that uploader is not the author, especially when, like in this case, there is also the name of the copyright holder in the small part of EXIF that remained. In this case you have admitted explicitly that you are not the author, so that verification via OTRS is required anyway. Jcb (talk) 16:10, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am not a photographer. I work in the press center. I am the customer of many photos, some of which I use in my Wikipedia articles. The photographer is not the copyright holder of the photo, if it is made to order was paid. Therefore, the technical characteristics of the photo, I can not tell you, unfortunately. As I understand, there are no complaints about ownership. Can I recover data files in my article? As I understand, they were deleted by mistake and there was no reason to delete them. Best regards, Pa30T (talk) 11:45, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please contact OTRS to provide evidence of permission. Jcb (talk) 11:50, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I apologize. I first encounter such a problem. Photos are specially made for placement on the Internet, so I can not understand what the problem is? I assure you that no one will complain about ownership. I take all the responsibility. Is it possible to simplify this procedure? Best regards, Pa30T (talk) 12:04, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, it's not possible to shortcut the procedure. This must go via OTRS. Jcb (talk) 12:39, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I did not find the reasons for contacting OTRS. None of the reasons on the OTRS page coincides with my case. Licensing images: when do I contact OTRS? I have received permission from the original author (not me) to upload the file to Commons. I am the copyright owner but my file has been previously published without a free license on a medium I can't alter. I regularly publish my work elsewhere and want to avoid the hassle of sending permission statements for every upload I make. I am the copyright owner and my file is being hosted on Commons without permission. Please reconsider your decision to delete my photos. You are the administrator of OTRS. My photos do not violate any rights. Please help me solve this problem or let me upload a photo again. Best regards, Pa30T (talk) 15:50, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have to send an email to permissions-ru@wikimedia.org with a request to post my files again, right? Best regards, Pa30T (talk) 12:44, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
"I have received permission from the original author (not me) to upload the file to Commons." is what applies here. permissions-ru is fine if the permission is in Russian, this queue is managed by people who speak Russian. If everything is in English, permissions-commons @ wikimedia.org is probably faster. Jcb (talk) 16:15, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
One of the photos was taken more than four years ago. I do not remember being a photographer that day. I can not physically contact the author. How can I prove that I am the copyright holder? Best regards, Pa30T (talk) 16:28, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
By sending the document to us in which the photographer agreed to transfer the copyright to you (often an invoice). Jcb (talk) 16:42, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have nothing like that. I can try to find a flash card with photos with all the saved metadata. Will this be enough to re-upload photos? I have no other option. Best regards, Pa30T (talk) 16:49, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If there is no document, then there is no transfer of copyright. Finding the author will be the only option then. Jcb (talk) 16:55, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
This is unfair. These photos are not copyrighted and can be used anywhere. I paid for this job, but I cannot use it now. Nobody had any complaints, but you deleted my content for no reason. It is a pity that you did not help me. I work with hundreds of photographers. There must be another way. Best regards, Pa30T (talk) 17:07, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There is no other way, I am sorry. If you don't have the proper paperwork, we cannot do anything. Jcb (talk) 17:09, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
What were your reasons for deleting these photos? Best regards, Pa30T (talk) 17:19, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No evidence of permission. You next step now should not be continuing to edit my talk page hoping for a different answer. Your next step should be getting a written transfer of copyright from the photographers. Jcb (talk) 17:22, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Object deleted[edit]

Hi JCB. You very recently deleted a image I uploaded (Joshua_Pulumo_Mohapeloa,_circa_1930s.jpg). This photo taken in the 1930s are found in a number of printed and online works. Furthermore not one of these sources claim copyright to this work. According to DALRO (Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisaton of South Africa), if no evidence of ownership can be determined, the work (especially considering the age and the fact that the object predates our copyright laws) can be considered in the public domain until claim is made by teh creator. Due to my work I have access to thousands of images dating from the late 1800s to mid-1900s. None with copyright statements etc. How do you suggest I (we) deal with this if these images are of value to the public, yet 'ownership' is indeterminable.

Wynand User:Wynlib40

Copyright information was completely missing. If a file has no license and has an external link in the source field, it gets usually deleted instantly, because 99% of such uploads turn out to be copyright violations. Is this picture taken in South Africa? If so, it can be undeleted because of the third point of {{PD-South-Africa}}. If a picture meets the criteria for PD-South-Africa, please add {{PD-South-Africa}} as a license on upload and everything will be fine. Jcb (talk) 10:41, 11 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Jcb (talk) 15:57, 13 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Undo deletion of Peter_N_STEINMETZ.JPG ?[edit]

I am wondering if this deletion can be undone. I had responded to [Ticket#2018061210009755 release of PETER_N_STEINMETZ.JPG] via email on June 13, 2018 as follows via email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Kyi Pho Htet never responded on that ticket.

"The copyright was transferred to me as part of the contract which was signed to perform the photo session. Thus I am the copyright holder and the subject.

Please advise how best to proceed.

Thanks, Peter "

I am new at this, can you please advise steps needed to upload that image, whose copyright I own, to Wikimedia Commons?

Undo Deletion of Carter Cruise.jpg[edit]

My name is Daniel Adams, I uploaded a photo of Carter Cruise to add to her wikipedia page at her request and you deleted it. I received permission to use the photo by the photographer who took the photo and owner of the copyright Simplyyy G (Which you can find here https://twitter.com/simplyyyG/status/1055629914974543872). Appeal for the deletion of images[edit]

Deletion tags were added to nine images that were uploaded by me. I added the source and the author of the derivative work last week but still, they were still deleted by the admin. I'm here to appeal for the deletion of the images.

Images deleted include: File:Peak tram hk map.png, File:Hong Kong Tramways.png, File:XRL Map.png, File:XRL and Intercity Map.png, File:High speed rail map.png, File:Wo hop shek.png, File:Port rail line 01.png, File:Whampoa railway.png, File:Humen Bus 846.png.

Thank you.

Permission from the original authors is required. E.g. if you use a base map, you need to show evidence that this base map has a valid permission or that it is somehow in the Public Domain. Jcb (talk) 17:24, 17 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

You left me a message about Laia Aleixandri.jpg file asking about copyright permissions. Please note information has been submitted via email and has been reviewed by another OTRS Member. The message in the file says: "Wikimedia has received an e-mail confirming that the copyright holder has approved publication under the terms mentioned on this page. This correspondence has been reviewed by an OTRS member and stored in our permission archive. The correspondence is available to trusted volunteers as ticket #2018112210006505."

Deleted images in the category "KUNSTradln in Millstatt"[edit]

@Jcb: Hello, On Nov 22 2018 17.08/09 you deleted a number of files in the category "KUNSTradln in Millstatt", which I have uploaded. The deletion was due to lacking OTRS informations (the files are : File:Veronika Dirnhofer Gemälde KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Swoboda Helmut Gemälde KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Robert Oltay Gemälde1 KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Robert Kabas Skulptur KUNSTradl in Millstatt.jpg; File:Oswald Oberhuber Installation1 KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Nemanja Cvijanovic Skulptur KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Markus Wilfling Skulptur1 KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Manfred Wakolbinger Skulptur2 KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Manfred Wakolbinger Skulptur1 KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Lore Heuermann Batikkunst KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Johann Weyringer Skulptur KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Herbert Golser Skulptur KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Helmut Machhammer Skulptur KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Gabriele Schöne Gemälde3 KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Franz Kaindl Gemälde2 KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Clemens Heinl Skulptur2 KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Arnez.jpg; File:Brigitte Kowanz Lichtinstallation1 KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Bettina Patermo Gemälde KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg; File:Amy Brier Skulptur KUNSTradln in Millstatt.jpg)

All files are images of art works, which were exhibited in the public space in Millstatt during the art event "Art cycling in Millstatt" (see the entry in the English Wikipedia). According to the "freedom of panorama" within the Austrian copyright law all these art objects can be photgraphed and the photos then be used freely. They were photographed by the manager of the event, Petra Weissenböck, which gave me the permission to upload them in Wikimedia Commons. She also promised me to send a message with that permission to the German OTRS team.

I got no notification by the OTRS team the any of the files mentioned above should be be deleted because of a missing OTRS permission, so I thought that everything was ok, until I now found out, that they were deleted. Something obviously went wrong with the permission mail by Petra Weissenböck.

So what can we do to undelete the files mentioned above? Can you undelete the files upon receiving a mail by Petra Weissenböck with the information the the art works were exhibited in public space and that she as photographer gave the pernmissen to use the photos under a creative commons license? Or do we have to contact the German OTRS team with these informations, and it is their task to undelete the photos?Leontari1 (talk) 19:11, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Apart from the fact that as far as I can see we never received anything from Petra Weissenböck, also permission from the artists is required. Freedom of panorama does not apply to works that are temporarily in public space. Jcb (talk) 21:07, 27 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr image licenses[edit]

Hello, many of the images I have uploaded to Commons have been deleted due to copyright. Is there any way to reverse the removals? All these images originated from Flickr with a compatible license, and was marked so during the upload process to Commons. Links to images below. Sauer202 (talk) 17:28, 28 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi JCB, out of curiosity, I looked and some or all of these images come from https://www.flickr.com/photos/54688470@N02/, is that correct? This Flickr user has uploaded a number of images over several years with the public domain mark and, from spot-checking, all of them that I saw were taken with the Olympus E-M5. It seems like {{PD-author}} would be the correct answer - this is someone publishing their own work and proclaiming it to be in the public domain. --B (talk) 17:26, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

May be, but as long as they do not state such a thing at Flickr it has no value. PD-Mark is not a release and not legally binding. Jcb (talk) 17:36, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

How to approach an OTRS ticket[edit]

Hello, thanks for your hard work keeping Wikipedia clean. I was the uploader for an image that I think was recently deleted due to passing a 30 day time deadline. Does that look correct? I had sent a ticket to OTRS to confirm the license. The photographer was kind enough to re-license the photo under CC-BY-SA so it can be used on Wikipedia. However, I am guessing no one had made it through the OTRS queue to my ticket yet.

Is there a best way to proceed? Should I simply wait for the OTRS queue and for the photo to be restored? Is it better if I contact someone? I posted a note on the OTRS Noticeboard here to ask. I just wanted to ask and let you know since it looks like you were the person who took care of the image.

Thanks for your time. Let me know what's best. --Culix (talk) 03:48, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please just wait. The ticket is still open. It should be handled one day. Unfortunately we have a huge backlog. Jcb (talk) 15:30, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the reply. On the OTRS Noticeboard they said "Since the source is now licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0, OTRS isn't required. An admin should just undelete the file and mark it as license reviewed". An admin has now restored the photo. Is this okay to now re-add it to the article? --Culix (talk) 06:02, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, no problem. As soon as a file is back online, it can be used. Jcb (talk) 10:06, 30 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Querying deletion of photo Melinda Szymanik Author[edit]

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Melinda_Szymanik,_NZ_Children%27s_Author.jpg This has been deleted, citing no permission since Nov 11, however the licence holder emailed their permission November 12th/13th as per the advice I received. Her email was acknowledged but there has been no correspondence since and the photo has been removed. Should I resend the permission form she completed or is there some other process I should follow to undo the deletion? Thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by MelSzymanik (talk • contribs) 21:14, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pdf-files[edit]

Could you explain please what is the exact licence problem with files like

File:Grundkurs Mathematik (Osnabrück 2018-2019)Teil IVorlesung7.pdf

or

File:Grundkurs Mathematik (Osnabrück 2018-2019)Teil IVorlesung20.pdf

I am professor of mathematics and am the author of these files writing it on german wikiversity, hence CC-by-sa 3.0. The uploaded version is the pdf-version (more beautiful). For used images from Commons all licences are given explicitly in the appendix of the file. The licensing statement expresses this and links to the wikiversity file. So please tell me what else I have to do in order to make the licencing satisfactory. Thank you, Holger. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bocardodarapti (talk • contribs) 21:54, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please make sure the license is in the document, adequat source information of included third party works (pictures) is given and a proper license has been applied. Jcb (talk) 22:01, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The used third party picture from commons are listed with their licences in an appendix in each file (Abbildungsverzeichnis). Do you mean that the pdf-file itself should contain a licensing statement saying that I have written it and that it is under CC-by-sa 3.0. My understanding was so far that the picture itself does not contain the licensing statement, but the info contains it, and I consider the pdf-version as a whole as a picture.Bocardodarapti (talk) 22:09, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
In case of the deleted file, there was no license in the file and no license at the file description page and source information was completely missing. So there was no indication at all that this file would have a free license. And no, a text document is not a picture. Jcb (talk) 22:13, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It might be that the uploader, my secretary, forgot to include the Abbildungsverzeichnis. Sorry about that. It might also be that at the time of uploading she had not immediately included our template :{{Wikiversitydedruckversion}}. What I see is that the pdf-versions do not themselves contain a copyright statement and a link to the source file on wikiversity. That is something we could do in the appendix.Bocardodarapti (talk) 22:33, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
That template was indeed missing. And yes, it's definitely a good idea to include the information in the PDF file as well. Jcb (talk) 22:39, 29 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please leave a quick user-friendly note on the uploader's talk page regarding permission? Given that the uploader is notable, it seems plausible that the permission was transferred to her as a work for hire. Regardless, I'd hate to lose a valuable photograph because the user didn't dot the i's and cross the t's. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 17:12, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Magog the Ogre: I suppose this message was meant for @JuTa: ? Anyway, I disagree with you. It does not seem plausible at all that the copyright was transferred to the depicted person, such a claim will need verification via OTRS. In most cases I have seen in OTRS over the past ten years, it turned out that the photographer granted a usage right, often even for a limited period of time, to their client. People mistakenly tend to interpret such a permission as a transfer of copyright, which it is obviously not. Jcb (talk) 17:29, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
No, I meant to as you for a favor because you speak Dutch. Anyway, I didn't say probable, I said plausible. My reasoning is that celebrities often get a release from the photographer. We don't know though unless she sends in the documentation. I'd rather you tried since you speak her language. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 20:05, 2 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please see DW. There is not evidence of permission for the depicted work. Jcb (talk) 22:20, 4 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Now files are deleted without any proof? Yann didnt show a single image that was a copyright violation, only links with suspicions and nothing of evidence.
  • On the contrary i´ve shown that this photographer was the same. Need to read again some of the evidence? Dan Rocha, aka Dan Bowen, aka Dan Mullan/Pinnacle, is the same as the photographer "Lies thru a lens" or the Narratographer
  • This site http://liesthrualens.com was the website of Dan Rocha, aka Dan Bowen. The fact that this is the same photographer can be confirmed in the internet archive, where he says "Ive recently become a Getty Artist and have started licensing images through there".

Another proof that image File:WTF (8439080666).jpg, taken with a Nikon D3s, with metadata of authorship Dan Mullan/Pinnacle, is attributed to Dan Bowen Photography in https://www.gettyimages.pt/detail/foto/coming-at-you-imagem-royalty-free/167436138.

  • See all the archived pages in the Internet Archive and you will only see images taken by him, as he says several times.
  • Images, of the same person, in Getty Images and in Commons, with metadata
  • So as i´ve shown, by crossing this images with Getty Images is that Dan Mullan/Pinnacle is the same Dan Bowen Photography. As i´ve shown that the photographer in Getty is the same as in liesthrualens.com. If you see the url "Portfolio" in https://web.archive.org/web/20130902213017/http://liesthrualens.com:80/blog/?page_id=38, you will see that it links to http://ww1.danbowenphotography.com/.
  • Cameras
  • As i said before by Yann that said "have found at least a dozen different cameras, all high-end gears, and from different brands*Also why he used several cameras", dont you know that professional photographers change gear periodically, and as i said before he changed from cameras from time to time, always from medium ones to better ones.

Except for four images, one a family photo of 1914, three of Cameras (two where sourced from Sony with free licenses, and one from Nikon, albeit the three were without attribution), show in the first links of photographers sites were are the copyright violations. "Dan Bowen from Dalton, GA, USA (see also [2]" was an completly different style of shooting and models. https://www.instagram.com/danbo1946 and http://www.pictame.com/user/danbo1946/1259935847/1477806513251096546_1259935847 has zero images that were uploaded to Commons. The same with the websites of Daniel Rocha https://500px.com/monochromatique and https://www.flickr.com/photos/79376323@N03/ that has zero images.

So, why in the hell did you deleted this images? Where are the "convincing arguments (...) why files from this Flickr stream cannot be trusted. Unlike Yann that links to sites of photographers that have nothing to do with this photographer, claiming that the images come from there, but shows zero proofs of any copyright violation on that sites, i´vw shown that this files are properly licensed and by the author of the images. Can a Wikimedia Commons account have above 500 uploads? HutheMeow

Yes, there is no maximum. Jcb (talk) 15:32, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NOAA photos[edit]

Why did you delete all the PMNM photos I uploaded? They're clearly marked in the description as works of NOAA, viz, the US government. I might not have got to adding the PD-USGov tag to all but I think you deleted some I did tag. —innotata 17:26, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The files I deleted were tagged with PDM, which is not a valid license. It's your responsibility as uploader to establish a valid copyright situation. Jcb (talk) 17:29, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Can you undelete all of these, I can add the license to them (they can't be reuploaded, and PD files shouldn't be kept of Commons because of my "failure" - didn't realize these would be deleted rather than reviewed by people and thought I got to manyof them):

OK actually, yes I tagged these all with PD-USGov in addition to the Flickr tagging since I checked and they were all works of the US govet though two different agencies; this has been done before with mass uploads though maybe a bot then removed the PD-Mark tags. Still, none of these should have been deleted. —innotata 17:40, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(after multiple ECs) ✓ Done - please be aware that we get flooded with PDM files. Some uploaders like to do easy mass transfers, often hundreds at a time, without any intention to do some after care. That's why files with PDM get deleted by default if not fixed. Jcb (talk) 17:43, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
You should still check if they have some copyright status tagging added in addition to the PDM tag: I've been uploading stuff for a long time, I didn't figure out that you had to remove every instance of the PDM tag. I wasn't even sure uploaders were encouraged to, since isn't possible for uploaders to remove the tag with one click/visually, suggesting they shouldn't and should leave it to manual review by other users. —innotata 17:51, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It is encouraged to view every page after you edit it. If you would have done this, you would have noticed that you left the page tagged for deletion. Jcb (talk) 21:51, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mass deletion request[edit]

I'm rather confused looking at the 2 pages: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Mass_deletion_request https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/Listing_a_request_manually how do I nomination multi file or all files from 1 user? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Brinn.raisa (talk • contribs) 23:41, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

all Files_of_User:Dpvt1204 were taken from weibo (with watermark) claiming to be his "Own work"!--Brinn.raisa (talk) 23:40, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Both pages seem to be outdated. The easiest way is to go to the contributions of that user and then to press 'Perform batch task' from the tools menu on the left. (I have nuked the uploads of this user in the meantime). Jcb (talk) 23:45, 6 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Seems like I, standard user doesn't have such function. But I now knew that a single file can be Nominate for deletion from the left...--Brinn.raisa (talk) 00:59, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I think it should be available, but you may have to turn it on. In your Preferences go to the Gadgets tab. Then under Maintenance tools you should be able to turn on VisualFileChange. Jcb (talk) 10:25, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mycorrhizal network diagram deletion[edit]

Why did you delete this diagram : Réseau_mycorhizien_schéma.png it's all made by myself, except for the trees that i took from a royalty-free database (which i'd filled in in the image sources) ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Parasquive Vlad (talk • contribs) 20:17, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

'Royalty-free' does not mean CC or PD. And do not reupload deleted content. Jcb (talk) 23:52, 7 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, my mistake, my traduction was wrong, i meant to say a copyright free database ! I reuploaded it just because I wanted to see if I hadn't made a mistake by loading it the first time and that the deletion came from there ! User: Parasquive vlad

Ok. Just don't do it again and everything will be fine. Jcb (talk) 12:03, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, sorry again ! So, the diagram could be restored or not ? User: Parasquive vlad — Preceding unsigned comment added by Parasquive Vlad (talk • contribs) 15:59, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

No, 123RF is definitely copyrighted. At the bottom of the page you can read 'all rights reserved'. Jcb (talk) 17:23, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Can you fix this Category:Photos from indiannavy.nic.in, please? Thanks in advance :-) Wieralee (talk) 18:35, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done - may take a few hours until everything displays in the correct category. Jcb (talk) 22:11, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

As this was not a clear copyright violation, could you please restore the image and go through the normal DR process? Thanks. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:01, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Taken from here, which is not a US government website and where the file was not attributed to the US government, so yes, this is within our definition of copyright violation. Please note that the user keeps doing their transfers without proper after care even when they were clearly told not to do that. Jcb (talk) 22:14, 8 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Most of the images on that site are taken by US servicemen. And, if you are going to throw shade on a user for being lazy with transfers, maybe you could be arsed to nominate the file for deletion on English Wikipedia. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:15, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The files at EN wiki is their problem, I am not an active member of the EN wiki community. What is our business is that people only transfer files from EN to Commons if they are clean and do proper after care after transfer. If they don't do that, their transfers are counter productive and should stop. Jcb (talk) 00:18, 9 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Brown dog deletion[edit]

Hi Jcb, regarding the recent deletion of File:Brown Dog on plinth - Battersea Park - 2008-04-09.jpg, as I recall that was uploaded and released by the editor who took it. It was being used in a featured article. Can you say what the problem was? SarahSV (talk) 05:09, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A valid permission was not established in the OTRS ticket and the file was deleted 30 days after our first response. Jcb (talk) 15:50, 10 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

my SimonKiselicki.jpg image was deleted among other pictures, all the pictures I uploaded are mine and I don't know how to reupload them as they seem to be deleted again for no particular reason or explanation why they shouldn't be there. How can I solve this problem? Thanks 12:43, 10/12/2018

License reviewer rechten[edit]

Jcb (talk) 15:58, 11 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Predrag Keros.jpg[edit]

Hello. My image was deleted by you. I understand that I made some mistake, but can you help. The owner of the image is a son of a subject (who died earlier this year). He gave me that image. What do I really have to do to proof that he is the owner of that image and that he is giving me perrmission to publish? Please help. Dmajdic (talk) 11:48, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In principle permission has to come from the (heirs of the) photographer, not from the (heirs of the) depicted person. Jcb (talk) 15:39, 12 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Permission request for Photo of Emil Michael[edit]

Hi, I am not sure of the procedure here, but I submitted a picture of Emil Michael with (I hope) all the needed documents to get permission to use the photo on Emil Michael's page on Wikipedia, but the process of getting that permission has been quite lengthy. I am wondering if there is anything I can do to help move the process along so the photo does not get deleted after the 30-day time limit has been reached. I really appreciate your helpfulness, and hope I dont seem like too much of a "nudge." Thanks so much. Melissastevens (talk) 08:15, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS has a backlog, but the ticket is already in progress. We have told the sender what we need to compleet the permission. Nothing more can be done at this stage. Jcb (talk) 16:37, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Johan, I remember that the file Coa fam ITA albergati2.jpg was uploaded by user Massimop as his own work. Why was it deleted? --Antonio1952 (talk) 20:26, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't have any notice on this deletion. This is a new procedure ? --Massimop (talk) 21:20, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know why you did not receive a notification of this tagging, several other taggings of your files by @Castillo blanco: did generate the automated notification. Anyway, given this discussion, seems to be DW of non-free material rather than own work. Jcb (talk) 22:15, 13 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Navy of Brasil[edit]

Hello JCB, we are starting a GLAM project with the Navy of Brasil. We started a pilot project importing all pictures from the official flickr repository, where they published all content under publick domain mark 1. I noted that you are removing all content uploaded, how can we fix that since it's under an official partnership? Rodrigo Padula (talk) 00:34, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

'Public Domain Mark' is not a valid license, it's actually not a license at all. Please do not transfer files with 'Public Domain Mark' from Flickr to Commons. Jcb (talk) 00:39, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Jcb is correct, 'Public Domain Mark' (PDM) isn't a license (See the Creative Commons FAQ) and even then I do not trust that it means the photographs are in the public domain, you will need to research who photographed it, where it was photographed, who owns the copyright ect before you can add a PD license tag (such as {{PD-BrazilGov}}, {{PD-Brazil-URAA}} or {{PD-Brazil-media}}). Bidgee (talk) 01:10, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
So, if a person or organization publish a content online and clearly say "All content here is under public domain" for commons it's isnt acceptable? In this case all content is property of the Navy of Brasil with who we are starting a GLAM partnership. Rodrigo Padula (talk) 01:21, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It (‘Public Domain Mark’) isn’t a license, as I said it needs to be researched to ensure that it is in the public domain and what license tag will apply. Bidgee (talk) 01:28, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm in touch with the Navy of Brasil, we are formalizing a GLAM partnership, so, the best way will be to request them to update the license informed in the flickr repository or send a message to OTRS informing that all content is under PD? I imported the content to avoid more bureaucracy, it's always complicated to get formal contacts from them based on the militar hierarchy. Rodrigo Padula (talk) 02:13, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, but it's also important to know why the navy is the copyright holder in the first place. In principle the photographer as a person is the copyright holder, unless they are e.g. an official photographer for the navy. Jcb (talk) 09:45, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Cordialement. --Pierre-Dominique 07:52, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

Pouvez-vous contacter OTRS avec cette information? Jcb (talk) 09:47, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! On 13 November 2018, OTRS was received:

"Dear Esowteric,

For all changes since your last visit, see https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Tahir_Shah_Author.tif&diff=0&oldid=327223017

Editor's summary: adding OTRS received"

However today, 14 December 2018, the file was deleted:

"Dear Esowteric,

The Wikimedia Commons page File:Tahir Shah Author.tif has been deleted on 14 December 2018 by Jcb, see https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Tahir_Shah_Author.tif.

Editor's summary: No OTRS permission for 30 days".

Could you please clarify what happened here, and restore the file?

Many thanks, Esowteric (talk) 16:01, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the uploaded file was .tiff and the system changed it to .tif. Esowteric (talk) 16:06, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
We responded to the ticket 13 November, because we needed additional information. We never heared back, so that the file was deleted 30 days after our response. Jcb (talk) 16:19, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Ah! Thanks. I'll contact the subject/copyright holder again. Esowteric (talk) 16:22, 14 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Please delete it, because I have not a permission to upload this phot. many thx K@rl (talk) 16:36, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

What do you mean 'not a permission'? Are you saying that you are not the photographer? Do you somehow think that you cannot take pictures in public places without permission from the depicted person? You cannot revoke your contributions after years. Jcb (talk) 16:39, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I was the photographer inside of the TV-offices - and I had only a general permission, not especially for this photo. And so, if it's her wish, (I think, the IP is from herself), I would like, that you delete it. --thx K@rl (talk) 18:26, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
If she thinks she has a legally valid point, she can contact OTRS. If not, we are not going to pose possible reusers at risk. Jcb (talk) 21:42, 19 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
okay, it's a way. regards K@rl (talk) 09:25, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Appealing deletion of government image[edit]

Hi Jcb,

I noticed you deleted a recent upload of mine called File:Lagon Compassion in Action Roundtable on Human Trafficking.jpg. This photo was uploaded from a government archive (link). One of the accepted sources of photos for Wikimedia is "This work was made by the United States government," as this was.

Please let me know if anything is unclear, and if not, I would greatly appreciate this photo restored.

Best, Rachel — Preceding unsigned comment added by R sadoff (talk • contribs) 07:15, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the images you uploaded were copyright violations. In such a case we normally flush everything to be sure. Next time do not reupload yourself or you will get blocked. Jcb (talk) 10:39, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Deletion of TSA org chart[edit]

I would like some clarification on why Commons:Deletion requests/File:TSA Senior Leadership Organizational Chart - June 29 2018.pdf happened? It appears that user User:Flee c (who only created an account yesterday I might add and whose only edits are related to this file) nominated it under the guise of "Author or uploader request deletion". I was the uploader and did not request deletion, in fact, that file was being used a source of a citation on the w:Transportation Security Administration page. I am totally baffled. --TUFKAAP (talk) 07:57, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I merely closed the DR to not leave it open over deletion of the file. I found the file in the maintenance category for files without license and I saw that it had never been sourced and was likely a copyright violation, a DW of many pictures with unknown copyright situation at least. This file would be problematic even if you would have properly sourced it to a government website. Jcb (talk) 10:44, 21 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jcb, I thought the license of these files was fixed. Please see in Commons:Deletion requests/File:Bodice Designed by House of Worth and Worn by Julia Dent Grant.jpg and Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Clothing in the collections of the Missouri History Museum. Thanks to PKM we now have {{Attribution-MissouriHistoricalSociety}}.

I would like thank you very much for having accepted the deletion request of the files that I have uploaded from Flickr (Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by User:Civitas13). As I pointed out in the deletion request the privacy concerns about the young people in the photos made me fell very uncomfortable in having uploaded; in the future I shall pay more attention to iusses like that. Anyway thank you (for the second time) for sensitivity and for the work of deletion; greetings from me and I wish you a happy new year, --Civitas13 (talk) 13:46, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome! Jcb (talk) 13:59, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unbalanced discussion on Sirlanz files[edit]

Hi. I'm contacting you about your decision today to confirm deletion of the AsNTM participant photos (Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Sirlanz). Regrettably, I was unaware of the debate going on and that's my fault for not establishing a user page here. I am a very active WP editor but not experienced (or particularly interested) in this Commons side of things. I am certainly inexpert over here but upload when something comes up related to my article editing and I think I can enhance things there. What I regret is that you made your decision without my offer to upload files with the EXIF data in them so as to establish provenance. The reason the uploaded ones did not comes down to my inexperience: firstly, I did not even know what EXIF means (you giggle!); secondly, the software I used to crop the original images apparently strips all the EXIF off them when that process is performed. I simply had no clue that was happening. The result I can now see is that that gave rise to all sorts of suspicions. Interestingly, an observation in the discussion about me being a Hongkonger as some sort of justification for suspicion has not led to any challenge to my Haba Snow Mountain shot; I simply don't see the logic of the idea.

I can upload the original images but they are not cropped appropriately. So I am asking for your advice on how I can approach this, i.e. can I upload the originals with EXIF and then have the cropped ones reactivated (how, by whom?) or do I have to find a way of cropping the originals in such a way as to leave them with the EXIF data intact. At the same time, I note one editor mentions "OTRS" and I am happy to point out that I have no clue at all what that is (I could research and find out, I suppose, but, as I said, I'm not looking to get too deeply into Commons); if it's relevant, then we'd better deal with that, too. I apologise for calling upon you for all this advice but I'm looking for a fair outcome to this. (PS: I suppose my English is comprehensible? I have no connection to PV_sindhu; I'm not a professional photographer, I use my real name on WP - see my user page there) sirlanz 16:38, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS is our email system. If you send your story there and attach the original files with EXIF to that email message, an OTRS agent will be able to undelete the cropped files. Please be aware that this may take some time, OTRS has a backlog. Jcb (talk) 17:28, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Creating license template[edit]

Hi Jcb, I saw that you checked the license on my mother's photo of an AirAsia interior, thank you. We had also requested to have a licensing template made for her photos, as she does not edit Wikipedia but is happy to let me upload whatever I see fit to use. This would protect her files in the future, and allow her to keep sharing her photos without having to do it herself. Thanks, mr.choppers (talk)-en- 17:26, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Could you ask this at Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard? I am not so familiar with the creation of such templates, the last time I created such a thing is probably more than 5 years ago. Jcb (talk) 17:32, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I did, thank you. Best, mr.choppers (talk)-en- 21:10, 30 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Wappen SG Harsefeld[edit]

Please help us to rescue the Coa and try to find sources! Its sometimes very easy with google :)--Jürgen Krause (talk) 14:37, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I closed the DR and kept the official version (the only version for which the license can be valid). Jcb (talk) 14:46, 31 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]
