Christian book

I have written a Christian book to publish, and would love to use one of your printables. Even though it said on the internet, it can be used for private or commercial use, my publisher says I still need your permission. Om Christ Always! Rev. Lloyd E. Stinnett D. Living person portrait photo with residential location information

I have found a photo of a living person on Commons (it is used on several pages on several Wikipedia projects) for which the extended metadata includes latitude and longitude information pointing to a unique, apparently residential street address. Is that okay? If not, what is the procedure for having that information securely removed? --Frans Fowler (talk) 10:11, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

You could re-upload image without coordinates and request oversight of old version. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:24, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
Which you should do, if you think this is a problem. On the other hand, I would remind you that this is almost exactly what a phone book or city directory provides. - Jmabel ! talk 16:27, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Thanks EugeneZelenko and Jmabel. I didn't know about oversight. I have checked the policy and it includes removal of non-public personal information such as (...) home addresses, so I have contacted someone on the Oversight team. Of course, what constitutes non-public personal information varies from country to country. Cheers, Frans Fowler (talk) 16:53, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

I agree with Jmabel. However, rather than remove the coördinates I would just degrade their precision, say to the nearest arc-minute (perhaps more if the location is very sparsely populated). For example my telling you that I’m at 53°35′ N 113°29′ W would scarcely help find my house; I estimate that there are some 3000 residential buildings ‘here’ with only 1′ of precision.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 17:16, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
The {{Location withheld}} and {{Location rounded}} templates are also useful for this purpose. clpo13(talk) 23:36, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

Thanks all of you. An oversighter was grateful for the report and has removed the coordinates. Concerning the suggestions above: (a) If an ordinary editor had made the change, the information would presumably still be visible in the history; (b) The purpose of a picture of the subject in a Wikipedia article is not to help people discover where the subject lives, even approximately. Cheers ---Frans Fowler (talk) 21:01, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

@Frans Fowler: regarding (a), one can edit a page or re-upload a file with altered metadata and then request that previous revisions or versions be hidden. As for (b), although other WMF projects are our principal ‘clientele’, we also seek to serve any & all other potential reusers, who might be interested in other aspects of a picture than its principal subject. Of course I have no idea whether or not there’s anything else of note in this particular photo, but in general I believe in being as ‘conservative’ as possible because we can’t anticipate every educational purpose a given item may serve.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 23:14, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

This flower looks ultra pink color, but it also looks like pale purple color. If anyone can help me check it out, I would really appreciate it!--Kai3952 (talk) 18:15, 1 September 2018 (UTC)

The scope of colour names is rather subjective, and often varies to a surprising degree between languages, so I wouldn’t generally try to specify them very narrowly: someone looking for red things might be annoyed having also to look under scarlet, vermilion, crimson, burgundy, &c. That said, we do already have Mauve flowers, which might be a better fit.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 23:27, 1 September 2018 (UTC) P.S. Our Pale purple flowers category seems to belong to a more organized system; the mauve cat might be anomalous. (03:22, 2 September 2018 (UTC))
I wouldn’t generally try to specify them very narrowly? Are you talking about this edit of mine: "[1]"?--Kai3952 (talk) 03:49, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
No, just the first thing that came to mind on the topic … I had only looked at the above image. I came across the cats with the floral colour palette, {{Navigation Flowers by color}}, after my first reply.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 04:13, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

SVG slightly cut off

I have noticed that some SVG images (particularly logos) are slightly cut off and have a small section missing on one side, when viewed on Wikipeida, but when the same image is viewed using editing software such as InkScape they appear fine. For example:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Supreme_court_crest_(official).svg is very slightly cut off on the right hand side of the "circle"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Guy%27s_and_St_Thomas%27_NHS_Foundation_Trust_logo.svg has the text on the bottom line cut off as well

ElshadK (talk) 13:58, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

@ElshadK: Both appear to be cut off in the source svg files, according to multiple browsers.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 14:19, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
If you look in Inkscape the page size (Ctrl-Shift-D) is 110.40 pixels wide and is right tight on the edge of the circle. Suspect therefore some rounding is taking place as a display cannot have a fraction of a pixel. Ideally the page size should be slightly bigger (say 112) and the image re-centred. Problem with a pdf file

Hi. I would like to ask about the problem with file:Philosophical Transaction vol LIV.pdf: it seems broken in some way, but when I try to upload it again as a new version, the software writes to me that the file already exists and cannot be uploaded again. I have no problems to open the pdf file in my computer so I am not sure why it has been uploaded so broken. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 18:13, 31 August 2018 (UTC)

@Jan.Kamenicek: The file is fine, I downloaded it OK. It looks like the wiki software cannot render a thumbnail due to the large size. There are file limits (Commons:Maximum file size), but PDF is not listed. That page has suggestions about making a separate thumbnail and linking. Ronhjones  (Talk) 23:41, 1 September 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: I think the problem must be deeper because it does not display the scanned pages in Wikisource either. It should not be because of the file size, as it is only 26.88 MB, while much bigger File:Časopis Vlasteneckého spolku muzejního v Olomouci, issue 112.pdf is 109.99 MB and is displayed without any problem both here and at Wikisource. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 08:41, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
@Jan.Kamenicek: . Hmm, then maybe something went wrong at the thumbnail generation? I'm virtually out of ideas, maybe someone else can chip in. Final suggestions... (a) I can delete it and you upload again. (b) Use the "Upload a new version of this file" under the file history section. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:00, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: I tried to use "upload a new version" before, but the software gave warning that the file already existed and did not proceed uploading. It probably uploads only files which differ at least slightly.
Meanwhile I also found out that Wikisource pages do not display the scans of individual pages of this file too, so the problem must be deeper than just thumbnail generation :-( Jan Kameníček (talk) 15:12, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
However, it would be great if you tried to delete it and upload again. We would see if it helps. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 15:14, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
@Jan.Kamenicek: Deleted - try again. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:38, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: Meanwhile I uploaded another book, File:Czech Folk Tales.pdf, which i downloaded from archive.org/stream/czechfolktales00bauduoft#page/n9, and the result is the same :-( It seems there must be something wrong with the pdf files generated by archive.org. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 15:44, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
@Jan.Kamenicek: Maybe a PDF version that wiki does not understand. I tried to "compress" the first one with Nuance Power PDF - it ended up as 50% bigger! Let me have a play for a while - maybe an export and re-PDF might work (at least I can delete my test uploads at will!) Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:51, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
@Jan.Kamenicek: See File:Philosophical Transactions - Volume 054.pdf (might have to refresh browser) That has worked. Exported all pages as TIFF, and then made new PDF (made sure that "optimised for web view" was checked). The file ended up at 114,794,496 bytes - too big to upload, had to increase compression a bit and now at 102,442,602 bytes. My Power PDF is good, but I would guess that a full Acrobat Pro would be better. Also changing the tiffs to black and white will save space - depends if you like the old yellow paper or not. Do you want File:Czech Folk Tales.pdf done as well? Ronhjones  (Talk) 16:51, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: That is excellent, thanks very much! I would be really grateful if you could help me with the Folk Tales as well, as I have no elaborate software for pdf files and rely just on the files as they are directly downloaded. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 17:42, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
@Jan.Kamenicek: ✓ Done File size has gone way up, but at least you can see the pages! Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:16, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
@Ronhjones: Magnificent! Thanks very much for all the help. --Jan Kameníček (talk) 18:35, 2 September 2018 (UTC)
@Jan.Kamenicek: No problem. I know someone else with a proper Acrobat - I'll try tomorrow and see if it can be smaller file - I'm curious to know why it gets so big! But at least you have a working PDF now. Ronhjones  (Talk) 18:46, 2 September 2018 (UTC)

@Jan.Kamenicek: . Well, Acrobat made a smaller file as expected (about half the size I achieved). Changing to black and white did not help much - unless one turns the contrast right up to remove the "grey blotches". Acrobat reports that the original is a PDF/A format (sort of read-only), however removing that attribute did not make for a viewing document on commons. It's plain that the original file is very highly compressed - maybe wiki can't handle such high compression, no idea. I think that the only (current) cure for these files is what we have already done - export and re-make. I've raised it as a bug - https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T203402. Ronhjones  (Talk) 15:36, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

Thank you very much for all the effort! However, it seems they did not understand the problem in the phabricator :-) --Jan Kameníček (talk) 16:33, 3 September 2018 (UTC)

School e-News Photo without Copyright Notice or Photographer

I have a photo published by a public high school e-newspaper from 2017, but there aren't any copyright notices or photographers listed. Would this count as public domain?

Unlikely. In most jurisdictions copyright arises by default and local laws determine how long that copyright subsists, so it's unsafe to assume public domain unless it's explicitly stated for an image. Rodhullandemu (talk) 23:38, 3 September 2018 (UTC)
Following up on what Rodhullandemu said: under the Berne Convention, if work is copyrightable, then it is copyrighted by default. The U.S. and UK were late to implementing that, but since 1989 it's almost universal. - Jmabel ! talk 00:22, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

@StontEmpire: Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons are generally bad places to promote a brand. To have a Wikipedia article, one must already have significant coverage in reliable sources, such as books, scientific journals, and newspapers. Wikipedia regularly deletes articles which do not meet their criteria. Likewise, Wikimedia Commons has a policy of deleting content which is created for the purpose of advertisement.
We do welcome you to Wikimedia Commons, and I hope you decide to contribute, keeping in mind our project scope. For some general information on how you can help, see Commons:First steps. Also, if you tell us a bit more about your business, there may be specialized ways you can help. Please let us know if this interests you, or if you have any more questions. Incorrect location coords

Is there a template to mark a (latitude & longitude) location as wrong? I see templates to mark it as malformed, but not as incorrect. - Jmabel ! talk 04:05, 4 September 2018 (UTC)

If location data are arguably and grossly irrelevant to the media, then why on Earth should the template remain machine readable? Wrap it to {{Tlp}}. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 06:28, 4 September 2018 (UTC)
{{Tlp}} is a good idea.

What should I do?

Please look at User_talk:Kai3952#Flickr2Commons and User_talk:Kai3952#Reply. He opposed the way that to download the images from Flickr to my own computer before upload it. Because he think that I should check the images that are within the FoP (of Taiwan). You can see the reason for deletion request at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Entrance sign at Datun Nature Park in Sanzhi.jpg. That really is a difficult problem for me! What should I do?--Kai3952 (talk) 12:31, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

  • The FoP issue and the Flickr2Commons issue are two separate issues. I have no knowledge of Taiwanese law, so I know nothing about the FoP issue but, yes, I would strongly recommend using Flickr2Commons for such transfers (with the possible exception that if it's your own work, and you've been clear that the accounts are the same person, you can upload separately on Commons). Flickr2Commons allows a bot to confirm the license on Commons is correct. This is important because the license on Flickr could be changed later, and we need the confirmation that it was correct at time of upload. You can make any edits you like afterward. For an example of editing afterward, see what I did with File:Mayor Uhlman at Bumbershoot, 1974 (43479308855).jpg - Jmabel ! talk 15:47, 5 September 2018 (UTC)

1940 'Illustrated War' photo

Hi - I have an old 1940 paper 'Illustrated War' magazine. In it (among other interesting things) is a photo of a Viscount Madeville OBE who was awarded honours for bravery etc. Out of interest I looked this chap up in Google, coming to a Wikipedia entry for him. There's no picture of the fellow and I wanted to upload this picture before the paper copy disappears forever and with it any digital record of his face.

So as far as I can see, having been taken in 1940, this picture would have fallen into the public domain in 1990 (50 years period). Mind you I could be wrong about that.

When I look at the options to upload to Wikipedia, I don't seem to find any possibility for uploading images that have entered the public domain (due to expired relevant period reference their creation date).

Any straightforward advice please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sam Deeks (talk • contribs) 12:17, 6 September 2018 (UTC) (UTC)

@Sam Deeks: Hi,
Any mention of the photographer in the magazine? Regards, Yann (talk) 12:17, 6 September 2018 (UTC)
Yann is right, the photographer is actually important because the copyright term in the UK is not determined by the date of first publication but by the lifetime of the author. If there is no attribution in the magazine, you could use {{PD-UK-unknown}} though to upload the photo at Commons. De728631 (talk) 13:56, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

I stopped uploading any image with a date before 1900 at that point. After the first pass is over I'll have to do a second pass and manually upload those with the correct authors. (2) The other ("B") should send email as described at COM:OTRS indicating that "A" is authorized to upload on "B's" behalf. (3) There might be a problem using the collective blog name as author in {{Information}}: in most countries, unless that blog is a legal entity, it can't hold copyright, and in some countries copyright isn't transferable, and in others -- including the U.S. -- it can be transferred only in writing. But, really, a blog name is not much different than using an account name as author. I personally think it should be fine; someone may disagree. Does someone want to weigh in on this? In any case, though, if you are using (for example) a CC-BY-SA license, you can specify how you want the work attributed. E.g. {{self|cc-by-sa-4.0}}. - Jmabel ! talk 04:36, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the info, Jmabel! We determined that she was the one who actually shot the photo, so it's probably best to have her create a Commons account and upload the photo herself.

Underline?

If the word was underlined in the message(like this: All I ask is attribution, nothing more.), then what does the underline(This ___ is what I am talking about) means?--Kai3952 (talk) 12:28, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

This is usually done to stress the word, i.e. to put additional weight on it. It would be helpful though if you could provide a link to the original text, because context may be needed. De728631 (talk) 12:36, 10 September 2018 (UTC)
In typescripts (documents composed on a typewriter), traditional proof-reader’s marks, and some other contexts, an underline has conventionally been used to stand for italics. Nowadays, where italic fonts are available they’re usually preferred, because (like CAPITALS, also deprecated) underlined text can be hard to read and makes for a more distracting variegation in the “colour” (density & texture) of a text-block. I agree it’s probably intended for emphasis, or perhaps to highlight attribution as a technical (legal) term.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 21:26, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Given that you have had your talk page access revoked, you will need to submit a request with the Unblock Ticket Request System. Given that you've had four accounts blocked in the past 48 hours, you are unlikely to be unblocked, and your better option is to wait six months with no sock puppetry, and ask for the standard offer. uploading photos (loves heritage Belgium 2018)

Hi,

What is the minimum size required for one photo to be uploaded on your website ? How many photos one can upload ? Or how many Mo ?

@Sebopi: I don't know that there is a minimum--there are SVG files that are only a few kilobytes. There is no restriction on uploads as such but new users may be throttled in how many they can upload at one time. —Justin (koavf)TCM 20:58, 10 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello. Is it allowed to upload a still image coming from a movie and containing only its credits? Is it copyrighted? Here is an example:

I work for a company that wants to update our Wikipedia page

Hello, I've tried to upload a logo for a game system my company produces and it has been deleted, would you be able to inform me of the best way of going about uploading the image?

Regards Zak — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wraithbrood (talk • contribs) 15:38, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Hey Wraithbrood. Either you can convince the company to license the logo for unrestricted public use, including commercial reuse, and provide verification of that according to the directions at COM:CONSENT, or you can upload the file locally on the English Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. This can be done using the upload wizard there, and filling out the questions presented in the form it provides. You should also review the English Wikipedia's policies on conflicts of interest and be careful to abide by them, else you are liable to attract a lot of unwanted attention, especially if any content you add may be seen as using Wikipedia for promotion or advertising. GMGtalk 15:45, 11 September 2018 (UTC)
I would point out, though, in this case there are very few copyrightable elements in the logo. As long as your company holds on to trademark, they really shouldn't have much problem with free-licensing the copyright. Upload on Behalf of Museum

Hello there!

I have a quick question. I am affiliated with the New Orleans Jazz Museum Last year, I was asked to improve their Wikipedia page by uploading pictures from their social media accounts (particularly Flickr) to supplement the page's information. I received notification that the photos have since been deleted. The museum would like the photos to appear on the page. What is the best method to upload these photos?

Many thanks!

Quick edit: These images were also used on the French, German, Spanish, and Russian translations of the English page. DNMaurer (talk) 17:20, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

Hey DNMaurer. In order to qualify for upload to Wikimedia commons, media needs to be licensed for free public use. If this is an official Flickr account, and the Museum is the sole owner of the copyright for these photos, they can update the images on Flickr to license them for free under a Share Alike License or a Public Domain Dedication, and they may then be transferred to Commons and used on Wikipedia. See also this guide from Flickr on how to do this. GMGtalk 17:32, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

photo was deleted wrongly - it is a public image.

I have been the admin on Brigid Harrington's wikipedia page. Yesterday, I updated her photo, which is her official, public headshot and appears on her website, on her facebook page and more. It was removed wrongly, with the person stating it was a copyright violation. This is not correct. This is used on other public websites. I uploaded the photo again with a different name since it appears on Brigid Harrington's other official public pages. It was deleted again. I do not understand how to get it undeleted, and I feel that it should be restored right away as it is not a copyright violation of any kind. The users that deleted it claim they may not respond if I don't reply exactly the way they specify but their instructions are quite confusing. Please help me, thank you — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mywiki2664 (talk • contribs) 20:52, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

  • "official, public headshot...used on other public websites" has nothing to do with copyright or licensing status. What is the free license under which it is available?
  • Please don't just re-upload after something you upload is deleted. That can be a pretty direct route to being blocked or banned.
  • If you control her web site, you could indicate the license on her web site and then bring the matter to Commons:Undeletion requests.
  • Otherwise, COM:OTRS explains how to send appropriate evidence of permission. - Jmabel ! talk 22:25, 11 September 2018 (UTC)

@Thylacoop5: if you click “Tools” under the search field, you should see a sub-menu headed “Usage rights”, under which choose “Labeled for reuse with modification” to filter the results. The license of any image appearing there should still be checked at the source before uploading it here, but at least the filter will help narrow the choices. Foto uploaden

Dag,

What happened to image annotations?

Hello, when I look at at image there no longer seems to be the option of adding an image annotation, e.g. File:Kot Diji from Sheesh Mahal.jpg. Is this me and my computer, or has this option been removed, or is this a problem with some images only? Thanks, Kalbbes (talk) 17:08, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

@Kalbbes: the "Add a note" button is still available to me and I'm not aware of that functionality being removed on particular images. You should make sure that JavaScript is enabled in your browser and that you haven't accidentally checked the "Disable the ImageAnnotator" gadget in your preferences. clpo13(talk) 17:35, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
@Clpo13: On another image File:Fortfromtown.jpg I was able to add an annotation. Is there a way of adding that functionality if the image doesn't have it? Kalbbes (talk) 17:52, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
@Kalbbes: the gadget uses the template {{ImageNote}} to create the annotations (as seen in the wikitext of an image page with annotations), so you could add the templates manually, but I'd recommend clearing your browser cache or trying another browser before going that route. It could also have just been a one-time issue on that page. There's more information at Help:Gadget-ImageAnnotator and you can leave a note at MediaWiki talk:Gadget-ImageAnnotator.js if you continue to have problems. clpo13(talk) 18:08, 13 September 2018 (UTC)

Someone has uploaded an image of Najmieh Batmanglij on her wiki page. We would like to replace it with an image we've uploaded but don't know how to do so. The image is https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Najmieh-Batmanglij_2985.jpg Also do we have to create a thumbnail as well or will wiki size it as necessary? If you would like to change the image at en:Najmieh Batmanglij, please click the "edit" button on top of the article. You will see a line of code reading | image = Najmieh Batmanglij - 2015 National Book Festival (2).jpg. This should be changed to | image = Najmieh-Batmanglij_2985.jpg That is all you need to do as the thumbnail will be generated automatically by the Wiki software. If you are referring to Wikipedia in another language though, the image would have to be changed at her Wikidata entry which needs a different approach. De728631 (talk) 19:41, 13 September 2018 (UTC)
Hi Gordyeh. I also added her picture to the Persian Wikipedia. You may look at this edit to learn the syntax: fa:special:diff/24503029.
However, the image will be deleted in 7 days unless you have the rights holder (who is in most cases the photographer) send a permission statement to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Full instructions are given at COM:OTRS. 4nn1l2 (talk) 07:00, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello, I am a beginner in "Wikipedia" and I ask you in my language why my documents would be excluded?

The documents that I have loaded into the site are all from my works of the last 54 years of advertising.

It would be useful for me to know the reasons for the exclusions that you decided to select the works that I realized, that I consider useful for the community "WIKI"!

As I do not know the criteria you have chosen to exclude my work, I respect your decision, of course, but I consider myself entitled to know the cause of your choice.

Thank you for informing me.

This media may be deleted. A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:28 Royaume unis.jpg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work. While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you! You don't say what license you have in mind, but we typically recommend Cc-by-sa-4.0. Make sure you understand what that means before granting a license to your work! If you want to apply that license to your own work, you would put {{self|Cc-by-sa-4.0}} on the page in question. If you want to be credited in a particular way you can indicate that by an "author" parameter, e.g. {{self|Cc-by-sa-4.0}}.
For photos where you inherited the intellectual property rights, use {{Cc-by-sa-4.0-heirs}}.
If it is not your own work, and you don't hold the intellectual property rights, then you are not in a position to offer a license. - Jmabel ! talk 18:47, 14 September 2018 (UTC)

Rules about non-free logos unclear

Hello, A film festival logo I uploaded got deleted recently. It concerns File:Holebifilmfestival_Logo.png (original here: https://www.holebifilmfestival.be/logo/holebifilmfestival2015_logo_large.png)

I'm sure I read somewhere on a wikipedia or wikimedia help article that there was an exception in the policy for usage of a logo only in the infobox of the organization itself. Probably I was mistaken, or the page was outdated (unfortunately I can't seem to find it again - there is a lot that is written about the topic and it's difficult to distinguish the good from the bad).

On the other hand, there's also a rule that allows logos that do not meet the threshold of originality needed for copyright protection. Considering there are logos like File:Nielsen_logo.svg and File:Steinberg_logo.png, I wonder if (why) the removed logo does not meet these criteria.

(On a related note: would a photograph of a logo appearing in a public place, like on a flag or banner, be considered disallowed as well, like a picture of a work of art ?) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kwakeroni (talk • contribs) 10:48, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

@Kwakeroni: The distinction between Wikimedia Commons (where this page is) and English Wikipedia is important here. Commons is shared across all Wikipedias and mony other projects. All pictures on Commons must be free, and one way they can be free is if they're so unoriginal as not to be eligible for copyright at all (i.e. below the threshold of originality). If you think your logo qualifies, I think the correct procedure is to request that it be undeleted following the instructions on COM:UDR. You can also upload pictures specifically to English Wikipedia, and English Wikipedia permits non-free content under its non-free content criteria. That's the policy you mentioned at the start of your question.
Finally, a photo of a banner with a logo on will generally be subject to the same restrictions as the logo. Exceptions are if the photo was taken in a country with particularly generous freedom of panorama, or if the logo only forms a minor part of the picture. --bjh21 (talk) 12:14, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
@BevinKacon: @Bjh21: Thanks for the response, I contacted the admin for his/her opinion about it being PD-textlogo, let's see what that brings. —Kwakeroni (talk) 13:13, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

I asked Solomon203 about this photo "File:Keelung City Athletic Meeting award platform 20160521.jpg" earlier, and he told me that he photographed a podium(see: [4], [5]). I don't see any podium, but what I saw was that there were many trophies on the table. If there is no problem with my eyes, then I don't understand why he added Category:Podiums in athletics?--Kai3952 (talk) 13:20, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

@Kai3952: Behind the three tables is a platform flanked by a set of speakers. That platform appears intended to serve as a podium for use by an official for announcing and handing out the awards, and by the recipients for receiving them. So yes, I think Category:Podiums in athletics was added correctly.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 03:20, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: The problem is that I can't see a podium!--Kai3952 (talk) 04:11, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

I want to ask another question: I can't see a podium, but I'm not so clear why you think Category:Podiums in athletics was added correctly. Can anyone explain to me why?--Kai3952 (talk) 13:44, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

@Kai3952: I write of wikt:podium, English, Noun, sense 1: "A platform on which to stand, as when conducting an orchestra or preaching at a pulpit." You are probably looking for a lectern, which is not pictured.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 14:20, 16 September 2018 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: I know what is "podium", but what I saw was that there were many trophies on the table. Do you want to tell me that the table is a podium, or the trophy?--Kai3952 (talk) 15:12, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

Image Fix Request

This is in regards to the boy and dog going doing a water slide image named, File:Collier'sSlide.jpg. (A picture of same originally appeared atop this box, but I mistakenly blanked out that tag, and can't figure out how to put it back in place. I'm a first timer on this type of request.)

Hello. I uploaded the image ("Collier'sSlide"), earlier this year. It replaced one that I uploaded a few years back. The quality is much better, but the major defect is the brightness going straight down the center-fourth portion of the image. I don't have an ability to make this correction with my basic desktop image editor. I thought that maybe "Commons" would have the ability to improve the whitish backdrop, so that bright streak is not so noticeable. This picture is currently just referred to in the Wikipedia article "Paul Martin (illustrator)." RE reference 220. (I might like to change that though.) Thanks. uploading a photograph from the subject of an article

I want to add a picture to the entry "Ruth C. Duck". I have a picture provided by Ruth C. Duck taken by a friend of hers on Ruth's phone. Do copyright rules apply or can I just upload the picture. Does Ruth C. Duck need to upload the photograph to Wikimedia Commons herself? Can I do upload the photo myself. Or does the friend need to upload the photo?--Dzingle1 (talk) 17:46, 17 September 2018 (UTC)

Hey Dzingle1. The copyright for the photo belongs with the friend, because they were the one who legally "created the work". This is generally true of any photograph unless there is some contractual agreement transferring ownership of the intellectual property rights. The friend would therefore need to be the one to upload the image and license it for free public use, since licensing an image can only be done by the owner. GMGtalk 17:49, 17 September 2018 (UTC)
Or the friend can send email as described at COM:OTRS, granting a specific license. - Jmabel ! talk 00:08, 18 September 2018 (UTC)

copyright infringement on my pic uploads

I have been changing the page of Diane Anderson-Minshall's page. I am her assistant, as well as a writer for the advocate, hivplus, out traveler, and chill magazines. she is the editor of these magazines. the pics I uploaded were screen shots of the magazines where she works or has worked in the past (e.g. chill and girlfriends, respectively), or pics that she took herself. there is one pic I uploaded to commons but have not used where I think I made an error on crediting (it appears in the description but not the title). however, I do have authorization for use of all pics. please let me know if I have made mistakes in labeling or identifying copyright owners.

@I. De728631 (talk) 19:21, 19 September 2018 (UTC)

Using files

When I access images I usually get link to "Use this file", example:

File:Ferenc JOACHIM (1882-1964) Hungarian (Magyar) artist painter, his wife born Margit GRAF (1892-1965) and their first of three children daughter Piroska, circa 1916, Szeged, Hungary..jpg

BUT, I frequently do not, example:

File:Ferenc JOACHIM (1882-1964) Hungarian (Magyar) artist painter, his wife born Margit GRAF (1892-1965), and their second of three children Ferenc G. JOACHIM (1920-1989)..jpg

What is the cause/reason? —— User-duck (talk) 16:48, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

@User-duck: This is because the latter file does not use an Infobox template like {{Information}}, so it has no machine-readable data that the Stockphoto gadget can use. --bjh21 (talk) 17:47, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Spam filter hit on a USGov-PD image upload

So I just tried to upload the new flag of the TSA that was released on 9/11. Using the Wizard and all was good until I hit the Describe page where I get the "The text you wanted to save was blocked by the spam filter. This is probably caused by a link to a blacklisted external site." text when using the file title box. I'm totally at a lost because any variation of "TSA flag", "Flag of the Transportation Security Administration", "Transportation Security Administration flag" seems to trigger it. The only URL I used in the entire was the source URL of the YouTube video I got it from since right now the screenshot I took is the highest quality of said flag until TSA releases a more high quality version or someone here on Commons makes a nice vector of it. --TUFKAAP (talk) 18:23, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

@Gousinsaang and Jeff G.: It looks similar to many other files like File:HMS Unbroken.jpg (this one by the same photographer) which are considered public domain because the Crown Copyright has expired. --ghouston (talk) 07:04, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
@Gousinsaang and Ghouston: I suppose {{PD-UKGov}} would apply then, and IWM is perpetrating copyfraud.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:17, 24 September 2018 (UTC)
Yes it's copyfraud and the IWM is one of the most famous and shameless copyfraud institutions in the UK, even refusing to correct highly misleading claims of ownership over USA PD photographs published by the Library of Congress. Refer to User:Fæ/email/IWM for some background. -- (talk) 11:24, 24 September 2018 (UTC)

Wikidata notifications

I've created large numbers of geo-categories, e.g. Category:Hopewell Township, Perry County, Ohio, and as they're constantly getting added to Wikidata, I'm often getting double-digit numbers of notifications every day. How do I disable them? In my preferences' Notifications section, I've already un-ticked both "Web" and "Email" boxes for Connection with Wikidata, and I've disabled Show notifications from other wikis, but the notifications keep coming. How to make a disambiguation page?

Hello, I find that many many images that belong in Category:Balochistan (Pakistan) wrongly end up in Category:Balochistan in Afganistan. How do I make a disambig page? Thanks, Kalbbes (talk) 18:43, 15 September 2018 (UTC)

@Kalbbes: like any other category, but the only content should be {{Disambig}} followed by links to the possible target cats (with minimal descriptions sufficient to distinguish them, and sometimes subheads). Galicia might make a good model for a Balochistan disambiguator, being another name shared by two different regions.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 20:21, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello! Since I checked up with the copyright help desk and got help about a photograph I had uploaded and wasn't sure of after-the-fact, I wanted to ask about this image I had taken and uploaded on 22 September 2018 at SeaWorld Orlando. The image is of the train of a roller coaster with riders on it. Although not facially identifiable, I wanted to double check if this image was OK with photographs of identifiable people standards that Wikimedia Commons has before I posted it again on the articles page. Additional information if applicable, I didn't ask for consent, and wondering the setting I was in a public place? If the image is not good, I would be ok with its deletion. Thank you! Adog104 (talk) 23:06, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

@Adog104: What is it a screenshot of?   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 23:20, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
Jeff G.; Ah, I had taken a horizontal and vertical screenshot from the horizontal slow motion video that I had recorded on an iPhone while the train was going through its final turn. Though, when uploading to the Upload Wizard it wouldn't show the image file (possibly because it was .PNG? I'm not good with photos clearly), so in concern I toke another vertical and horizontal screenshot of the pre-existing image I toke before and cropped it accordingly so its black borders wouldn't show (sorry this is awkward). Adog104 (talk) 23:35, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
@Adog104: this photo was taken in the United States, so consent is not needed to take or publish photographs of identifiable people in public places. I looked around a bit online and people are somewhat divided over whether amusement parks count as public places for the purposes of personality rights, since they're private property and you need to pay a fee to enter ([6], [7]). IANAL, but in my opinion, as long as the park does not forbid photography, parkgoers have no reasonable expectation of privacy in public areas of the park, so photographs like this (not focused on an individual person) should be okay.
Additionally, there may be commercial restrictions depending on which state the photograph was taken in. An overview of the right of publicity law in Florida can be found here. Florida's law protects against unauthorized commercial use of a person's name or likeness, though that protection doesn't apply to [t]he publication, printing, display, or use of the name or likeness of any person in any newspaper, magazine, book, news broadcast or telecast, or other news medium or publication as part of any bona fide news report or presentation having a current and legitimate public interest and where such name or likeness is not used for advertising purposes (which I would think includes Wikipedia) or [a]ny photograph of a person solely as a member of the public and where such person is not named or otherwise identified in or in connection with the use of such photograph. [8] It may not be necessary in this case, but you could add {{personality rights}} or {{consent|public}} to the image description page to alert reusers that there may be restrictions on how they can use the photo. clpo13(talk) 16:59, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
@Clpo13: Thank you very much for the resources and in-depth analysis, I'll do such with consent-public template to be safe, and I guess the worst would be that it's requested to be deleted. Who knew this could be so confusing. :P Adog104 (talk) 01:57, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Hello there!

I'd like to make a deletion request for multiple photos. Is there a easy automated way to do this? Thanks,--I eat bananas 101🍌 (talk) 00:33, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Monuments

Hi there! Not sure I uploaded my pictures correctly for the contest. I admit I'm a photographer....not computer savvy at all. Is there a way to check to see if I've done it correctly, and if I've enetered the contest? Thank you! Shannon L. Dykstra. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shannondykstra (talk • contribs) 01:22, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

@Shannondykstra: I see two versions of a lighthouse picture, one with your name on the image and the other without. Please see COM:WATERMARK; we prefer to avoid visible credits on images (and we don’t keep duplicates). As for the contest, the unmarked one doesn’t appear to have been uploaded through the campaign wizard, as I don’t see any WLM templates or categories on it. I’m quite confident File:Lime Kiln Lightstation.jpg can still be entered, though I’m not sure exactly how. Please post at Commons talk:Wiki Loves Monuments 2018 in the United States, where one of the organizers can probably fix it. Meantime I’ll add the appropriate category, in case that will do it.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 02:23, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Is an affidavit in public domain?

Hi! I found an affidavit in the Commons Law Publications category that explains "This work is in the public domain in the United States because it is a work prepared by an officer or employee of the United States Government as part of that person’s official duties under the terms of Title 17, Chapter 1, Section 105 of the US Code." Does this also apply to any affidavit? I wanted to upload one that was published on a website but not as a part of a court record. — Preceding unsigned comment added by IrComm (talk • contribs) 19:56, 23 September 2018 (UTC)

@IrComm: Where exactly did you find it?   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 20:09, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
If it is really a USA government affidavit prepared by a lawyer who was a government employee that it is, of course, in public domain. Ruslik (talk) 20:41, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks! It has a regular stamp "Notary Public, State of NY, Reg Number (so-and-so), Commission Expires (date)" - does this indicate that this lawyer is a government employee? I am really not well up on legal, sorry. IrComm (talk) 21:09, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
@IrComm: I don't think Notaries are government employees.   — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 22:55, 23 September 2018 (UTC)
Presumably some notaries are government employees, but they definitely aren't all (my bank has someone who's a notary, for example), and anyway being a New York state employee doesn't make you a federal employee. Nyttend (talk) 03:11, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Thanks. And if a notarized statement is submitted as a part of a court procedure, does it become a "Public court document"? IrComm (talk) 11:50, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
The wording of the stamp suggests to me that the State of New York has licenced the individual concerned to practice as a notary public. Martinvl (talk) 12:25, 25 September 2018 (UTC)
Also, while most attorneys are notaries or have one in their office, most notaries are not attorneys. - Jmabel ! talk 16:28, 25 September 2018 (UTC)

Self image by using timer mode or selfie mode

Can I upload Self image by using timer mode or selfie mode on Commons? What are the special templates or licenses used for this? --सुबोध कुलकर्णी (talk) 05:34, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

  • Nothing special at all, but it should be within scope (either educationally useful, used on the user page of an active editor, or both), and it's a good idea to indicate in the description that it is a selfie, or that it is taken with a timer. - Jmabel ! talk 15:54, 26 September 2018 (UTC)
  • In other words, the basic concept is perfectly acceptable. Jmabel's point about "indicate in the description" is a copyright issue, since otherwise an editor might think that the picture was taken by someone else (and thus not yours to release), but if you use a timer or selfie mode, there is no copyright issue. And his point about scope is that something not useful (in the ways he mentions) isn't accepted at Commons, but if it is one of those ways he mentions, we'd appreciate having the picture uploaded. Homepage image

Good afternoon,

Your service is incredibly helpful. I really enjoy using it.

However, today's homepage image (of a topless woman) seems incredibly tone deaf considering the cultural moment occurring in the United States this morning.

While I understand the point of the service and appreciate the care and artistic quality of the image, I just had to let you know how off base this seemed coming from what I consider a generally attuned portal.

Thanks, Lauren — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 170.63.67.35 (talk) 17:35, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Hey Lauren. Wikimedia Commons is not censored for things like nudity, and featured pictures are chosen because they are educationally valuable, and also exceptionally high quality. These cover a broad range of topics including the human body, which as I'm sure your aware, has been a subject for artists throughout time. Modern photographers are no different, which is why you will occasionally see an image on the main page that includes nudity, although the vast majority of then do not, because the range of topics covered is again quite large. I am thinking to upload a videos from YouTube which are under Creative Commons license. Before I start, just as an example, can we upload this video? Thanks for help. --Tito Dutta (talk) 00:34, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

  • That's under CC-BY, so as long as its content doesn't violate anyone else's copyrights, it should be fine. It's nearly half an hour long, so I'm not going to vet it, but an example of a possible problem would be if they played a copyrighted film clip. - Jmabel ! talk 04:48, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

Advanced templating help needed

Per Template_talk:NRHP#NRHP_id_number_format_has_changed: up to now, the acceptable value for an NRHP ID has been simply an 8-digit number. Now they've changed their system, and we are likely to see new NRHP ID that prefix two letters before that number. We believe that the prefixes that are legitimate for our purposes are 'SG', 'MP' and 'NL'; there may turn out to be a couple of others, and we'll see by what we encounter over time, but presumably if we code to allow these prefixes for 8-digit numbers (as well as the bare 8-digit numbers we already allow), then adding a few more prefixes later won't be too hard. Anyway, we definitely need someone with more template experience than I to take this on. Any volunteers, or anywhere else we should ask for help?

Down the road, we might want to compare the bare numbers to the new system, but since they may variously get any of these three prefixes, and possibly a couple of others, we don't want to mess with that yet. - Jmabel ! talk 06:39, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

I can't upload files anymore (Internet Explorer Mobile)

What is the best practice for instances where I know a year that something was published but not a date? How can I insert incomplete dates into the upload form? Thanks. —Justin (koavf)TCM 23:13, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

@Koavf: you can use the template {{Other date}} for approximate dates or date ranges. If you're using the upload wizard, select the pencil icon in the date section and paste in the template, or you can just put the year by itself if that's all the information you have. clpo13(talk) 23:19, 26 September 2018 (UTC)

Image Licensing

I uploaded a cover art image through the Upload Wizard, but I got a message that I didn't get the licensing quite right. The author has given me permission to use the image, but I'm confused as to how to go back and edit the licensing, and which license criteria I should use. Help, please...I feel very dumb right now... ARynan (talk) 02:19, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

  • @ARynan: I'm guessing this is about File:The Green Woman Cover.jpg. Two problems there. (1) "Used with permission of the author(s)" is not (nearly) enough. We need a specific free license, or the image can't be hosted on Commons. See Commons:Project scope#Must be freely licensed or public domain. (2) Because this is something previously published, we need evidence of the license release. Either the license can be explicitly granted on a site obviously controlled by the copyright holder of the work in question, or you can go through the process described at COM:OTRS. For the latter, please note that email must come from the copyright holder, not someone saying "the copyright holder said this is OK." - Jmabel ! talk 04:50, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

@Jmabel: I'm really sorry to be obtuse, but I'm still unclear about my options, and that CommonsOTRS page just confused me. What I'm able to glean is that I need to get a statement of permission from the authors, using the email template narrative, and send it to Commons? Is that correct? Apologies again. Just trying to do this properly and with a minimum of screwups. ARynan (talk) 17:00, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

  • @ARynan: Yes, that is basically correct if you are going the OTRS route. Sending to the OTRS/permissions team is not exactly sending to Commons, but that's almost a quibble. The main difference is that only a small number of trusted individuals will see the actual email. - Jmabel ! talk —Preceding undated comment was added at 22:45, 28 September 2018 (UTC)

Similar to my post above, however this concerns the Surfy Browser, a web-browser advertised as the "#1 web browser for Windows Phone" in the Windows Phone Store, the issue for this web-browser is completely different from the one I am experiencing with Microsoft's Internet Explorer Mobile browser, in the screenshot you can see the state of affairs, whenever I select a file for uploading (which is only one at a time) I see the name of the file... • Signing your posts on talk pages is required and it is a Commons guideline to sign your posts on deletion requests, undeletion requests, and noticeboards. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and a timestamp will then automatically be added when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). adding a new Monument to map

Hello Wiki Commons, As I travel through Poland I have photographed the Monument to the Battle of Olszynka Grochowska, in Grochow, Warsaw, pL. How do I get it to show on maps of monuments in Poland? @MickG-Art: , did your camera register the geographical location when you took the photograph? --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 12:25, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

Upload an image under copyright

Good Afternoon, I found an image on a website for a page I'm creating and I wrote an email to the owners asking for their permission to use it on Wikipedia. I received their answer and they said it was okay, but just if I credited them for the photo. Now I'm trying to upload it on WikiCommons but I don't know what option I should choose when the I'm asked which type of license allows me to upload it. Thank you in advance for you attention. sencerely, DD99LIUC (talk) 15:10, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

@DD99LIUC: Please ask them to post permission on their website or send it via OTRS with a copy to you.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:04, 29 September 2018 (UTC)
And please ask them to be specific about the free license they are offering, which must conform to Commons:Project scope#Must be freely licensed or public domain. - Jmabel ! talk 17:17, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

Posting a Yearbook Photo to Wikipedia

I was trying to post a photo of a formner Revere High School teacher, John Miller, to a Wikipedia page regarding him. He was better known as a lineman for the GreenBay Packers. The software of the webnsite stopped me from posting it citing "possible copyright violations". I was one of 6 authorized photographers for our high school yearbook at Revere High School Revere, Massachusetts, When I was one of about 6 photographers, anyone could take photos of whatever pertained to Revere High School whether it be students, teachers or school administrators as well as the grounds of the school as well as activities of students during the years our class attended, which was between 1977-1981. At no time were professional photograhers taking general photos, EXCEPT FOR THE ACTUAL PORTRAITS OF THE STUDENTS, which was done sometime in November 1980. Students were authorized to undertake formal assignments, which included taking photographs of the teachers whenever it would be most convenient for thise teachers, but before a certain deadline established by the yearbook's printing firm who would be considered "the publisher".I am mot a copyright attorney by any means but from my understanding, the copyright would be shared by all staffers and all are free to reproduce the works thereof, except for the possible exclusion of students, which, howefver, seem to be universally utilizeas the identifying general media in case there are no other photographs available, in the case of a significant life event or in case of a death. Here, the teacher passed awayin 2015, the photography studio Baileys' is owned and operated by the Bailey family, but the photographer-owner at the time is deceased along with our yearbook advisor. It would be nearly impossible to obtain permission from deceased persons. Furthermore, in the case where there are no other media available, even football cards. posting a mere photo would not initiate a lawsuit, but would honor this fine man who was loved and respected by many at our high school, but for fear of prospective legal action cannot be honored by posting his photo! My name, once again, is Larry Greenstein, former student and yearbook photographer at Revere, High School, Rever, MA, and my email is LBgreen777@gmail.com. I am also an amin for several Facebook pages which preserve the history of Revere, and significant contributor to another, which is where the photo I am trying to pst on Wikipedia. The facebook Group name is Remember In Revere, at https://www.facebook.com/groups/RevereRocks/ and the link to the photo in question, that I wanted to post is at https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10216868731853630&set=oa.2070096199689519&type=3&theater — Preceding unsigned comment added by LBgreen777 (talk • contribs) 23:59, 29 September 2018 (UTC)

  • (Not sure if this applies here or not but...) Orphaned copyrights are a bitch, but it doesn't mean Commons will accept the copyrighted content just because we won't get sued. Deceased persons have heirs. Yes, this is a pain. - Jmabel ! talk 02:34, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
User:LBgreen777: Most likely, the copyright is held by the photographer or the photographer's heirs, so unless you did create the photo yourself, the filter you encountered was right to prevent you from uploading the photo while claiming that it was your own work that you hold the copyright to. If you cannot obtain an appropriate permission from the legitimate copyright holder, and your intent is to use the photograph on the English edition of Wikipedia, you may be able to upload it locally to that project following their non-free content guidelines. Photo challange partially grayed out photos

Hello,

I have added 4 photos to the photo challange for September https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Photo_challenge/2018_-_September_-_Emotions#Entries

Only one of them seems to be uploaded properly https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lost_in_thoughts_in_midst_of_everyone.jpg

The other ones are somehow partially grayed out like this one https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amazed_by_magnificence.jpg

Can you please help me with the problem and what I might be doing wrong?

Thank you.

Nuncfluens: It looks like the upload was interrupted about two thirds of the way through. (The upload process really shouldn't be allowed to proceed to publication when that happens, but bugs happen, I guess.) If you go to File:Amazed by magnificence.jpg and look at the "File history" section, there is a link where you can "Upload a new version of this file". Click on that, then click on "Browse...", select the file on your computer and click on "Upload file" to upload it again. You may have to bypass your browser's cache to see the new version after it's uploaded. LX (talk, contribs) 11:19, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
LX: Hi, thanks a lot for the help, but somehow even after uploading it again I still have the exact same result. So that bug seems to remain for this case I guess.
LX: I've checked it once again and now only the thumbnail looks like the old version, the actual photo has been updated. Thanks again. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nuncfluens (talk • contribs) 19:10, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

I uploaded a photo to Wiki loves monuments 2018, and I can't find it among submissions. (Paula Borkovic (talk) 17:25, 30 September 2018 (UTC))

You added you file: File:Gibon_jos_jedan-MONO_blur_headshot.jpg to Commons:Photo_challenge but to a wrong place. I moved it to the correct place and now it shows up. Ruslik (talk) 19:23, 30 September 2018 (UTC)
