No Kerala or other Indian states[edit]

There needs to be a place for Kerala or other Indian states or do you use Indiana thing if your from India as I saw this on Wikipedia English — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.71.210.35 (talk) 11:10, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. Each participating country runs their own Wiki Loves Monuments contests - you'll want to visit Commons:Wiki_Loves_Monuments_2018_in_India. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 17:39, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Language[edit]

What would happen if you would translate this banner in French or Mandarin and then broadcast that on each and every wiki I wonder. Particularly the Engliah wiki?

Mayhem I think.

But do you really expect people to love your action if you misbehave this way?

Again and again and again? Jcwf (talk) 12:48, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Jcwf: Hi there - could you explain the issue you're experiencing a bit more? Details on the languages we display in the CentralNotice are available here. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 18:05, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Liberty Cap[edit]

Ok - according to the NRHP, Mammoth Hot Springs is listed in the register, so would photographs of landmarks such as the Liberty Cap and the hot springs terraces be eligible for this contest? Atsme 📞 14:03, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Atsme: Good question! Unfortunately not. The Mammoth Hot Springs Historic District is the NRHP part of the park, which encompasses the administrative center for the park (the buildings, infrastructure, etc.) - and photos of this area would be eligible. The actual hot springs and natural sites aren't a part of the historic district. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 17:54, 1 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

México[edit]

Pictures[edit]

Am I looking for places that have no pictures yet or updated ones already there Baylea2003 (talk) 17:06, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Baylea2003: Both! The former is a priority, as one of our top goals is to have photos for all registered historical sites. However, we also value photos of sites that are already illustrated. If you can show new views of a place, show more details, provide higher-quality photos than what we already have, etc., those are all great ways to contribute. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 17:16, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Submission Limit[edit]

Can we submit photos of multiple sites? Is there a limit? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thompsonn126 (talk • contribs) 22:00, 4 September 2018‎ (UTC) (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Thompsonn126: No limit on the number of sites or number of photographs you can submit :) ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 22:26, 4 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Estimated Amount of Entries[edit]

I'm wondering what the estimated amount of entries will be? I would think it would be very high. How can the judges possibly go through all the entries to narrow it down to ten? — Preceding unsigned comment added by KrakenSeas (talk • contribs) 23:07, 5 September 2018 (UTC) (UTC)[reply]

@KrakenSeas: Yes, it's quite the undertaking! Last year we had over 8,000 photos. It's a month-long process that involves multiple rounds of judging, including a pre-jury process sorts through entries to find low-quality images, ineligible entries, etc., which reduces the number by several thousand. While we haven't announced the judging process for 2018 yet, you can learn about last year's here (2018 will be similar). ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 01:29, 6 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Historic Places and Monuments[edit]

I just uploaded a group of photos I took this summer in Arizona, New Mexico and Utah. The locations were Meteor Crater, Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park, Canyon de Chelly and Chaco Culture National Historic Park. None of these has IDs for the National Register of Historic places, but all are either National Parks or National Monuments. Do I need an ID for these locations?

Also, one photo failed to upload a thumbnail. Is that a problem? I don't know why it would not upload a thumbnail.

Thanks Sarunfeldt (talk) 23:59, 13 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Sarunfeldt: What great photos - thank you for uploading! Looking through them, Chaco Culture National Historical Park is on the National Register of Historic Places (66000895), so that's good to go for the contest. The rest seem to qualify more as natural protected areas and wouldn't be in the scope of Wiki Loves Monuments, but I'll take a closer look and see what I can find. They'd fit better under our Wiki Loves Earth contest in May, though the US has not participated in Wiki Loves Earth yet - it may or may not happen in 2019. Thanks, ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 04:54, 20 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a way we can confirm submissions?[edit]

— Preceding unsigned comment added by Clynnwersch (talk • contribs) 23:18, 15 September 2018 (UTC) (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Clynnwersch: You can view your uploads at Special:ListFiles/Clynnwersch. If you click an image you'll be take to its file page. If you scroll down and see the gray box that says "This image was uploaded as part of Wiki Loves Monuments 2018.", you're good to go! I've looked through your images (they're great!) and everything seems to be in order. Thanks for your participation this year. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 00:34, 16 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Ideal image size[edit]

Is there an ideal size (dimensions) you'd like submitted images to be? — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 174.80.134.188 (talk) 01:29, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello! The bigger, the better :) As the Wikimedia Commons is a host of educational content, we appreciate the highest resolution of photographs available. For the sake of the contest, we have no minimum resolution, but photos under 3 megapixels will be flagged for manual review at the beginning of our judging process, with only exceptional photos moving on into the later jury rounds (this review is to help us filter out very low resolution photographs from the later rounds). ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 06:07, 21 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmation for contest entry[edit]

Hello, I was wondering if you could check if the two photos I uploaded were properly entered for the contest? Thank you in advance! K. P. Reed (talk) 18:11, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@K. P. Reed: Yep, perfect! Thank you for participating this year :) ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 20:41, 22 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Confirmation a photo entry[edit]

Same question wondering if my photo that I entered this evening of Saint Martin’s Church was entered properly thank you very much John Rencher Jcrencher (talk) 23:32, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Jcrencher: Looks good! The one thing we needed was its NRHP ID number, to show that it is a registered historic site, but I went ahead and added it myself. Thank you for your contribution! ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 23:42, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Monument picture submittal[edit]

Can you confirm that my pictures were submitted? When I got done publishing them, it asked me to confirm my email but I've already done that. I can't tell if my pictures were accepted or not. Thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Acastro26 (talk • contribs) 23:48, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Acastro26: Yep, you're all good to go! That email confirmation message unfortunately pops up for everyone, we're trying to work with our developers to improve that message. Thank you for contributing! ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 23:56, 30 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Pictures[edit]

I was just wondering if my pictures were entered. Thanks you Bbliss95 BBliss95 (talk) 02:38, 1 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @BBliss95: Thanks for your contributions! They're successfully uploaded - however, I will note that I don't see anything in the image descriptions that explain what historical registries your photographed sites are under, and many of them appear to be natural parks. Wiki Loves Monuments accepts photos of sites registered as a historical or cultural site by some authoritative organization, such as the National Register of Historic Places or your state's historical society. However, even if not eligible for the contest, contributions to the Wikimedia Commons outside of the contest are always appreciated. ~Kevin Payravi (talk) 03:23, 1 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

1st elimination round[edit]

Checking to see if my submission of the Cardinal Mine made it past the 1st round elimination ? Thanks dlhampton Dlhampton (talk) 03:30, 8 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Wiki Loves" name[edit]

Wikipedia should stop the "Wiki Loves" at the beginning of these otherwise wonderful drives because it clearly violates NPOV. There is a lot of controversy surrounding monuments in various parts of the world. For example, look at the articles: Removal_of_Confederate_monuments_and_memorials, Statue_of_Joseph_Stalin,_Berlin, Statue_of_Peace. These are highly charged issues, and at the very top of the page is a banner blasting the words, "Wiki Loves Monuments"! This is NOT the NPOV message Wikipedia should be sending. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Epachamo (talk • contribs) 12:55, 5 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
