Chicken birds (Galliformes) are an order of birds that includes a diverse group of terrestrial, ground-dwelling species. They are characterised by strong bodies, short legs and usually well-developed wings. Many chicken bird species are known for their colourful plumage and flamboyant courtship rituals. These birds are found worldwide in a variety of habitats, from forests to grasslands to mountainous regions, and play an important role in the ecosystems in which they live. Some well-known representatives of this order are chickens, pheasants, partridges, turkeys and peacocks. |
