The mantled baboon (Papio hamadryas) is a primate species of the guenon family. It lives in north-east Africa and parts of the Arabian Peninsula. These monkeys have striking males with long, silver-grey hairs that form a "mantle". Mantled baboons live in complex social groups called harems. They are omnivorous and skilled climbers. Although their populations are stable in some areas, they are nevertheless threatened by habitat loss and human impacts. |
