Hi Orchi, bei dieser JPEG->TIFF Duplikat-Löschung File:A whitehouse orchid LCCN2003666318.jpg habe ich mich erinnert, dass wir - zumindest früher - eigentlich beide Format belassen haben, weil die unkomprimierte TIFF-Fassung ja sehr viel voluminöser (hier 90 MB) ist als die JPEG-Fassung (3 MB), was Benutzern mit geringer Internet-Bandbreite Probleme bereiten kann. Bin mir aber nicht sicher, ob das heute noch so gehandhabt wird. --Túrelio (talk) 20:41, 5 April 2020 (UTC)

Guten Tag Túrelio, ...wo Du mich an die Frage zu .tif Bildern erinnerst, dämmert bei mir auch irgendetwas. Danke für den Hinweis. Nerviger zu bearbeiten sind auf jeden Fall die Duplikate, die von Robotern in verschieden guten Scan-Qualitatäten :hochgeladen werden und dann viele Kataegorien vermüllen. Beste Grüße. @Túrelio: Guten Tag Túrelio, vielen Dank für Deinen hilfreichen Hinweis. Ich habe gestern versucht, in Flickr wenigstens ein Bild zu finden. Leider vergebens. Ich habe die Daten des Artikels vorsichtshalber in der Kategorie unsichtbar gesichert, um bei neuen Bildern den Artikel nicht neu schreiben zu müssen. Ich werde aber mit Badlydrawnboy22 sprechen. Er findet oft seltene Bilder.

Gerade noch ein weiterer Punkt: Könntest Du bitte User:BeautifulMedia freischalten. Von ihm stammen tausende der besten Orchideenbilder in Commons Category:Photographs by Motohiro Sunouchi.

infoboxes and galleries

Hi Orchi!

I have almost finished putting "the album" on wikidata. I have to clean something up on all of them before I am completely finished (with the basic structure) and I don't know what to do about one thing....

That "thing" is: to put {{Wikidata Infobox}} on the gallery or not. I think that something more suitable can be constructed, as getting the information from wikidata is not as difficult as applying the style to it is.

On the otherhand, the info boxes exist and look okay. I would prefer that you make the decisions about galleries....--RaboKarbakian (talk) 16:35, 29 December 2020 (UTC)

Wikisource uses {{Authority control}} for its authors see s:en:Author:Asa Gray. I kind of like it. It is unobtrusive but there if you wa nt to check one of the various databases. It works for books also, but I might be the only of the sourcerers to use it for that. It doesn't "work" here yet but I put it R. Warner & B.S. Williams - The Orchid Album - volume XI (1897) to see.

The album is not such a good example for publication structure because there is only one scan. It is like the genus with only one species. I used to become irked when the species cat wasn't there and also irked when I had to jump through an empty genus cat to get to a single species. No help for me! I have both minds! I think the link to Wikidata for categories is standard and ok. I don't know any examples or rules for galleries. Not positive for me.

By the way, the pdf - files should be given a correct name and placed at the beginning of the category.

I tried to get a name change for a pdf. They said no, perhaps their bots are stupid and need the filename and the 'assension number' and the link to the source. Also, there is a person at wikisource who likes the scan files to appear last in the cat. I believe this preference is due to google scans having a google cover, but its a habit I have, particularly for the cats containing my image work. Great pains were taken at wikisource to remove the first pages of scans. I had one problem with messed up ocr and quit trying that. I think only a combination of options... I am straying.
