Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!

I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.

We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.

Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.

Request renaming reasons

Hi, @Richardkiwi: , I had requested the change of name of File:Cocacola lime logo.png because there is a non-free file with the same name at the en.wiki and the site doesn't allow me to replace that file with the commons free image.

That's the reason because I asked for the name change. Isn't there an exemption for cases like this? Fma12 (talk) 20:22, 25 August 2021 (UTC)

Wijzigen bestandsnaam

Beste Richardkiwi, jij wijzigt bestandsnamen. Ik kwam verschillende bestandsnamen tegen met fouten.

Moet zijn ... Visser Neerlandiaprijs

• Een hele serie van een begrafenis in Indonesië wordt genoteerd in Bandoeng (moet Menteng Poeloe zijn) met nog meer fouten in teksten. Ook de chronologie klopte niet. Ik heb ze in een lijst gezet

Richardkiwi, ik had wel eens gekeken hoe je moet vragen voor een herbenoeming. Dat is zo voor mij abracadabra.

Er was er een fout File:Menteng Poeloe 1947, Reburial H.L. la Lau 12, Bestanddeelnr 222-5-4.jpg moet zijn File:Menteng Poeloe 1947, Reburial H.L. la Lau 28, Bestanddeelnr 222-5-4.jpg

Ik snap niet dat het laatste nummer wel correct is en het tussen nummer niet. Ik zal je in het vervolg niet meer met dit soort dingen storen.

Ik zal me niet meer gaan storen wanneer er fouten in commons staan, en zo wel zet ik het wel in een lijstje voor iemand anders. (Het beste is gewoon iets anders te gaan doen.) Lidewij (talk) 23:24, 21 November 2021 (UTC)

Er staan wel een miljoen+ fouten op Commons. Ik stoor me er niet aan. Je mag best wat doorgeven, maar dit was een erg grote lijst, zeker als je het los moet hernoemen i.p.v. via de tool. Ik weet ook niet meer hoe een hernoeming aan te vragen. Ik zal even met mijn andere account kijken morgen (ma.). @Lidewij C J.: Heb al gekeken met mijn andere account, met dit account kan dat niet. Naast 'Geschiedenis weergeven' en dat sterretje van de volglijst staat 'meer' of meteen 'hernoemen'. Dan krijg je al een bijna kant-en-klaar formulier, je moet dan de gewenste titel kiezen en over de titel heenschrijven (staat erbij als het goed is). Criterion 2 was hier het geval, omdat het grotendeels niet klopte (hoewel het een serie/set bestanden is, had Crit. 4 ook gekund). Voor kleinere wijzigingen Crit. 3, b.v. een taalfout of een verkeerd huisnummer en voor eigen (zelf opgeladen) bestanden (vooral recent) Crit. 1 (dan wordt er evt. geen redirect achtergelaten, indien mogelijk).

Hele kleine wijzigingen (lichte verbeteringen) zijn niet toegestaan (b.v. "File:Gouda, de kaasmarkt.jpg" naar "De Kaasmarkt in Gouda.jpg") en voor 'a set of files' gelden alleen echte sets (Crit. 4), niet een category, zoals veel mensen denken, tenzij die categorie ook daadwerkelijk toevallig een set is. If it's copyright violation, you have to nominate it for deletion. {{Delete}} and follow the instructions. But I see the earlier version is from 2019, so why is it copyrighted now? Or was it already the case? I have no time now, I'll be back later in the evening. You can write here and I read it later, or you can ask it on Commons:Village pump. Hi Richardkiwi, that file was moved to File:Flag of South Korea (1949-1997).svg (notice the hyphen) twice as some people spotted the problem before. But the original uploader (Illegitimate Barrister), who was also a file mover, moved it back to the current name each time. That user claimed that File:Flag of South Korea (1949–1984).svg/File:Flag of South Korea (1949–1984).png were the flag of South Korea in 1949–1984 without any reliable source. However according to the 1949 flag law, the 1984 flag law and the current flag law, the construction of the flag has not been changed since 1949. And File:Flag of South Korea (1984–1997).svg, File:Flag of South Korea (1997–2011).svg and File:Flag of South Korea.svg have the correct construction. If I have to correct File:Flag of South Korea (1949–1984).svg according to the 1949 law, it would look the same as File:Flag of South Korea (1984–1997).svg. About these edits. There are no two files. There is a file and a redirect to it. I mistakenly uploaded a duplicate file. Then I put it up for deletion - a redirect appeared (no two files! file & redirect!). Now need to rename the file (by the name of the existing redirect), since it is part of a series of postcards. Op 14 augustus 2021 zie ik twee gebruikersnamen die dit doen, echter niet met een bestand van jou. Ik heb niet zo'n geduld met zoeken, met andere dingen soms weer wel, zie: Commons:Deletion_requests/Archive/2021/08#August_14. Als je nog een nominatie ziet, wil ik de aanvraag wel doen voor een blokkade. Alleen verwijderverzoeken doe ik niet, maar dat is hier niet van toepassing, behalve het behouden ervan. :-) Er valt geen link te maken, want is ingelogd en 7 maanden terug en dat is te lang voor een checkuser, bovendien weet ik niet welk hoofdaccount er dan achter zit, niet die paar losse accounts, met 5-25 bijdragen. Hi Richardkiwi! Thank you for performing the rename operation on the images from these categories, Category:House, Ismail, 44, Chișinău and Category:Former vocational school, Ismail, 46, Chișinău. Can I ask you to delete the leftover redirects as well? This redirect, for example, – File:MD.C.C - str. Ismail, 46 - Clădirea fostei școli de meserii⁠ - oct 2021 - 01.jpg → File:MD.C.C - str. Hi Gikü, it's not allowed to not leave a redirect, if a file is not recent/new. Afterwards, I can't delete the redirects. You can ask an administrator, but it's possible they won't do that, because if someone (doesn't matter who) kept the link of a file, and it gets renamed without a redirect, they probably can't find it anymore. It seems that instead you renamed File:Lucie Cousturier, Homme noir écrivant.jpg into File:Alice Bailly, Baigneuses aux oiseaux.jpg, although the author of the current file File:Alice Bailly, Baigneuses aux oiseaux.jpg is not Alice Bailly but Lucie Cousturier and the name of the watercolor painting is Homme noir écrivant and not Baigneuses aux oiseaux.

Would it be possible to please correct both (I guess you'll first have to rename the second file back to Lucie Cousturier, Homme noir écrivant.jpg before renaming the first one into Alice Bailly, Baigneuses aux oiseaux.jpg; again, sorry for my initial mistake)?

Hi, I remember there were two files with the same name, I had to decline the second. I couldn't see that before I tried to rename the other file. So you did something wrong and (maybe) did a wrong rename request and requested the same name for two files. It's too late at the moment (midnight), I will look in the morning or afternoon. Hello. I noticed that you renamed the file according to Pofka's request. Unfortunately, this user has misled you. There is no obvious error in the original filename, but such error appears in the new name. According to the reliable source provided in the information template (book issued by the recognized specialist in heraldry), this image depicts the emblem of the Grand Dutchy of Lithuania, which is called Pahonia (Пагоня, Pahonia in Belarusian, in language of the original filename). And there are no any reliable source that this flag is anyhow related to the Slonim County. Moreover, this is not first misleading by Pofka. The previous one was discussed here: User talk:Elli#Changing the Belarusian filenames to English and here is the conclusion of the filemover: So for my comment here, I don't really care about what these files are named, but I'd like to express that I am very disappointed in Pofka for misleading me (Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/Archive 85#Files named with meaningless/disruptive names (motivated renaming was reverted without any valid reason)). Just renamed it back to the old name. I had no good feeling over this, and I saw another rename, that I didn't do. It's better that admins or other users, take action quicker, because I've seen this before and the user (someone else) just continued requesting file renames, and file movers can't know or see everything. Sometimes I see that something is not right, and I decline it, but it's more difficult if the name of the user is very familiar, I have seen the name Pofka many times. Wrong file renaming

On August 20, I uploaded files from an old Roll of arms Armorial Lyncenich, 1430–1440 – 01, 02, 03, 04, 05, 06. Many coats of arms are signed in Middle Dutch. I found it possible to keep the original names in the filenames. However, some files have been renamed because "they are Russian propaganda".

Above the coat of arms is written "onde von rusen", which is part of the full phrase "[hertoghe von lettouwen] onde von rusen" – Grand Duchy of Lithuania and Ruthenia coat of arms. There is nothing wrong with the new file names that currently are absolutely correct. If the obvious propaganda that the Coat of arms of Lithuania is a "Russian Coat of arms" will be restored, I will initiate a process with administrators. This aggressive Russian internet troll is simply going too far. The initial naming purposefully omitted Lithuania's name and these files descriptions included phrase "Russian coat of arms" (1). Pure trolling. Russia is a 16th century state and it did not exist when this CoA was created and used (15th century). Ruthenia and Russia are absolutely different things. By the way, the last word is not RUSEN as the third letter clearly is not S and the fourth letter is O (not E). -- Pofka (talk) 20:29, 21 August 2022 (UTC)
