The translation of the file name is "No Name". You said that you can't change it because Commons:File_renaming#Which_files_should_not_be_renamed?. Is it? I don't think so. (See also: w:he:שיחת קובץ:ללא שם.JPG) Euro know (talk) 13:24, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know and care what the translation is. The guidelines says that you have to respect the uploaders choice, which language they used. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 14:29, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
This is what it 'must' be like: rename - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 14:33, 29 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Action is required

Hello @Richardkiwi. Sorry, my fault. I wanted to upload a separate version of the original file File:OPCAB.png with Russian captions, so I used the Upload a new version of this file option. This has led to an unwanted result: the Russian version became the new version, which I was unable to revert. Then I requested renaming this file to File:OPCAB ru.png, which you did, but the problem remains. There must be two separate versions of the file: File:OPCAB.png with English captions and File:OPCAB ru.png with the Russian ones. Please help. Now I understand that I must have used just the Upload file button and then add the new version to the original file. Doctor Gregory (talk) 17:23, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Doctor Gregory: , I don't see an English version. I can overwrite a redirect (mostly), if you have the English version for me. Grtz. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 20:37, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It is on the same page, see the File history. Doctor Gregory (talk) 20:45, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I restored the English version. I can't rename the other version. Maybe you can upload it again, I don't know if it can have the same name as OPCAB ru.PNG, I hope so. Otherwise, one of the two Russian versions has to be deleted. I can do a deletion request, if you can't upload under the same name, if you (maybe) don't know how to. Grtz. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 20:54, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I think now I will have to upload the Russian version under a different name using Upload file button. Doctor Gregory (talk) 20:57, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Is that right? Then OPCAB ru.PNG may be deleted. Doctor Gregory (talk) 21:03, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, under a different name, using Upload file! - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 21:06, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! Please request deletion afterwards. Doctor Gregory (talk) 21:08, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's good like this, no action required.. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 22:03, 6 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again. Doctor Gregory (talk) 10:35, 7 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Temple of Preah Vihear

Thanks for the rename, there are a number of other images of the temple that have the same issue. Can you take care of them or do I need to make the same rename request on each one? regards Mztourist (talk) 13:27, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I have already done them. In the category there are a lot more. Shall I do them myself? The only thing is that I don't know specific names/words for the files, so it probably will be something like 'panorama', accept if I know a better name. :) - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 14:11, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Bad criterion 3 move

Hi, I've requested a revert of this move you made. I fail to see any error with "Flag of the Taliban"—this is their flag. Please stick to only moving files that satisfy criterion 3: "To correct obvious errors in filenames, including misspelled proper nouns, incorrect dates, and misidentified objects or organisms." Additionally, you introduced an error in the move which falsely suggests the flag was introduced in 2021. It has been in use since 1997, and was the country's official flag until 2001. ― Tartan357 Talk 21:16, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I checked a few Wikipedia's for it and although the request was different, I choose the name you mention based on the information I found. Yeah, I admit I doubted a little, but it's the flag of Afghanistan, maybe the year is not correct, as you say. Didn't know it was their flag before things changed (badly) there. I can't know everything. Mostly I avoid renames that change more than twenty pages, these are probably more than a hundred, at least. (I'm too tired now to check, it's late here). The best, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 22:52, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I already changed it back. Sometimes I make a bad decision, I admit, but not very often, high trees catch a lot of wind. Regards, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 22:56, 10 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Schule Frohmestrae

Hello Richardkiwi, you have reverted one out of five renaming requests I made concerning pictures in Category:Schule Frohmestraße. I have uploaded a couple of thousand images of Hamburg architecture, in particular educational facilities. So I think I know what I am doing. You could have asked instead of reverting. I will upload 16 more images for this set, and then I will re-revert your edit. --Minderbinder (talk) 10:58, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi/hello, when I handled this request, the other four requests were not visible yet, so at that moment I made the right decision. Now I see CAPTAIN RAJU renamed the others, I moved the other too, but at the moment I saw your request, it was the only one, and my decision was right at THAT moment. Regards, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 11:19, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Life is about being right in the moment, so there. --Minderbinder (talk) 13:39, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Afbeelding draaien

Ik kijk straks even, moet even een break nemen hier. Groet, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 13:49, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'll give it a try ;) - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 14:34, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Even afwachten maar. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 14:44, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

- Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 15:05, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Dank je wel.--Agaath (talk) 17:31, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for moving files from the khteWisconsin Flickr stream!

These files had really bad names which polluted a lot of searches. Giving them better names was a major effort involving at least 7 file movers. Together you moved more than a thousand files. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 14:14, 24 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Title change

Dear Richardwiki,

Can you change a title of one image. It is about Лакочереј (04).jpg which should be titled (22).jpg. MariceskiIvanco (talk) 12:02, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MariceskiIvanco: . That's not possible, the file File:Горно Лакочереј, Охридско (22).jpg already exists. Regards, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 12:13, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Richardwiki, my bad. (21).jpg. MariceskiIvanco (talk) 12:35, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It's not possible, mostly I can overwrite a redirect, but this time it's not possible. You have to do a normal request (criterion 1 I think) and say that an administrator possibly has to move it. Regards, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 15:05, 26 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Declined rename request

Hello! I'm writing to ask about why my rename request was declined. I'm pretty sure it meets criterion 4. Take a look here, most of the images' names meet the scheme of "POL <gmina name> flag". Filipny (talk) 12:48, 2 November 2022 (UTC) ː@Filipny: - Hello, when a file has a request for permission, I'm not allowed to rename it. Has nothing to do with other reasons. I've done a little more research and from what it seems the gmina has no official flag. It's important, because flags of Polish gminas aren't copyrighted. I'll message you if I find some more info about it. Filipny (talk) 13:18, 2 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Titelwijziging Binas

Groet, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 22:35, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

File talk:UTC hue4map KAZ.png

Could you move File talk:UTC map KAZ national colours.png to its original location File talk:UTC hue4map KAZ.png? There could be others splits at "UTC map KAZ national colours.png" or other color problems at "UTC hue4map KAZ.png", so best to have the color problems at the talk location where they were a problem, as a warning/notice for other users in the future. Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#Misuse of the move/rename flag. This is in relation to an issue with which you may have been involved.

-- Tuválkin 02:58, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Tuvalkin: - You are the one that is rude here. Just talk normal to me and don't say DON't DO (in a caption) and then 'this' (see history) in a link. In that case I talk to you like that too. I do a lot of good work here. It's possible that I don't see that a new file is uploaded, it's not possible to do everything (100%) correct. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 11:31, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I don’t care much about rudeness or lack thereof, within some limits; matters for me much more whether one’s right or wrong (or anything in between). I don’t agree that my warning was rude (the exact wording I used is the prefered form of address of many users, incl. even some admins), although it certainly could have been mellow. I was not in the mood for being mellow after having to clean up two files that got messed up only because you greenlighted a clearly incorrect FR request. If you had reverted or ignored my warning in a mellow manner yourself, I’d still had raised the matter in AN/U. I appreciate you do a lot of good work here, as I do too — but if I had ever fall in the trap of doing such a mistake myself too (which is likely), then I expect someone else to bring the matter to AN/U if it seems that I’m not aware of the matter and refuse to acknowledge a warning about it, no matter how rudely it is worded. Meanwhile I added a thought in the AN/U thread, where I expect your good work will stand for itself. -- Tuválkin 13:29, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hello, it's not '..and refuse to acknowledge a warning about it', I just don't like it when people talk to me like that. If you talked to me in a normal way, I would have responded different. You say 'no matter how rudely'. I'm a volunteer here (just like you are) and I do this as a hobby. I'm not an employee and you're not my boss. Have a nice one. (that means: have a good day) - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 14:27, 10 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Humble advice

Dear Richardwiki,

I don't want to look harsh, but let me put a gentle request, actually simple to answer: when you renamed File:L'Anticristo.djvu you created a breaking between the index file and all the pages created on Wikisource from that index: those pages lost their link to the index page of the source. It's nothing that cannot be repaired, but I stumbled upon your move only by chance and such damage on many pages could have lasted unnoticed for a long time. My piece of advice is the following: when renaming djvu or pdf files, please check wheteher they are linked to Wikisource books: if they are please leave a message in the local village pump to notify the move: it will let users know that there is work to be done quickly. Thank you for your collaboration. εΔω 12:27, 24 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi, I renamed it back, but I can't look if something is on Wikisource, when I rename something. I only have to follow the guidelines. I hope the reverting helps and wish you a Merry Christmas too. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 15:09, 24 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It helped. Thank you for your reply. Merry Christmas to you and your dear ones! εΔω 07:35, 26 December 2022 (UTC)

PLEASE NO MESSAGES WITH CHRISTMAS (25 + 26 DECEMBER) (or I delete them)

Hi Richardkiwi, could you please explain why you have renamed this file? It is by no means an obvious error, it is an alternative spelling (see uk:Брідщина) and I don't see a reason why we should not use the author's one. I know that you did not initiate the request, but given Albedo's talk page I have little hope he will change his mind. Thanks — NickK (talk) 20:52, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I reverted the rename. You didn't see my message to not send me a message with Christmas (25 + 26 dec). But by exception I reverted the rename. Greetz. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 21:12, 26 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Richardkiwi Please I wanted to rename this File:Outreachy internship application from an applicant point of view to File:Country Ambassadors Call (African Wikimedia Technical Community) not to create a redirect link that will automatically send a user to a page that has the name File:Country Ambassadors Call (African Wikimedia Technical Community) with only another redirect link to the same old page. Please if that can be resolved i will be very glad since I have to share that with the African Wikimedia technical community. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 22:38, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I can't help you, I can't delete the redirect. You can do a request, because the file is new. In most cases a redirect must be left, so people can always find a file. You can do it with {{delete}} and a good reason. Saying it's a new file is important. Good luck, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 22:52, 29 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Questionable move

Hello! Why did you do this? The English-language name of the file was accurate and correct. Now the name is in a language which very few people worldwide know. SergeWoodzing (talk) 10:30, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, you're right, I didn't see it well, I thought it was the other way around. I reverted it. Thanks for the message. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 12:05, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Please contact the requester about it, User:PancoPinco I think they changed the information too. Normally the requests of this user are good (mostly). - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 12:08, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I apologize if I was wrong, I found the collection and the portrait from which this image derives so I thought it was more appropriate to write it in the language in which it is named, i.e. Norwegian since the portrait belongs to the Norwegian royal collection PancoPinco (talk) 16:32, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the link where the image is https://www.kongehuset.no/artikkel.html?tid=27425&sek=27067. If you like you can change the name in English. I suggest "Friedrich Dürck - Portrait of Queen Joséphine (1807-76), married to King Oscar I" PancoPinco (talk) 16:42, 5 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

February 2023

Hello! You did it again here. The move was far from controversial, as should have been evident from the file info. The alleged identifier has been involved in several fake identifications before, based solely on POV with no further evidence. H/s finds paintings in museums and thinks it's So-and-so and name-changes it at will. This should not have neen moved without discussion. SergeWoodzing (talk) 14:20, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

PS Where is your "Archive 2" with my last recent complaint? --SergeWoodzing (talk) 14:22, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Really? I'm very busy, there was a huge backlog, I renamed 200+ files yesterday and the days before (so did a few others). Not only busy here. You can find the archive at User talk:Richardkiwi/Archive 2. Better talk to the requester, I can't see everything, literally and figuratively, but I try my best. I will revert it. Why do you see it when it's renamed and not when it is requested? - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 14:33, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

✓ Done reverted by request - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 14:37, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, I'm a bit stressed. People always complain when it's a file they uploaded, gets renamed, without they gave the request. I do this voluntary for hours a day (yesterday: 8 hours) and all I get is a complaint. Mostly I see the wrong request, but not always. With this: "The move was far from controversial, as should have been evident from the file info. The alleged identifier has been involved in several fake identifications before, based solely on POV with no further evidence. H/s finds paintings in museums and thinks it's So-and-so and name-changes it at will." you better take action against them. Have a good one. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 14:57, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Your work is highly appreciated. Slow down though! I cannot answer your question why the move requests do not show up on my watchlist. I don't know. I have taken action against the identifier in the past. It was very unpleasant but h disruption was stopped on that occasion. --SergeWoodzing (talk) 15:39, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks. I see that you think he changed his name, while he is blocked (probably a sock puppet?). That's not good. I try to look better and slow down a bit, but I can't see everything. I already quit renaming files that are requested by certain requesters, because it's gives trouble. Sometimes I decline it, but there are some admins that decline a lot, so that's a good thing. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 15:48, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Moving files

Hi Richardkiwi, I noticed that you have moved files to new names upon my request a number of times. Thank you for your efforts. I do not want to be a burden, so I was wondering whether I could get file moving rights myself. I am a sysop on the German language Wikipedia, if that helps any. I think I have a fair grasp of the Commons file naming principles, but if I need to read more policy, bring it on. Can you point me in the right direction for getting file moving (renaming) rights please? Is there a voting process? Again, thank you for your time and diligence. --Minderbinder (talk) 10:45, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Minderbinder, nice that you wanna become a file mover. The only thing that I see is, that we can handle your requests. So it's not really necessary, in my point of view. There was a Dutch user who didn't like my name is his lists on nl.wikipedia and asked to be a file mover for that reason (but didn't say that, I already knew that). If you really want it, read further; it's not so strict as becoming an administrator. If you really want to be a file mover (renamer), see Commons:Requests_for_rights. If nobody has a problem, and you qualify (I think/know you do), the chance you get the rename bit, is big. It depends on what you request also. There are a lot of files that are requested and actually don't have to be moved, but it depends on the file mover who handles it. So good luck, I'm not at my best now, so my text is probably not at it's best, but I know you understand it :-). Greetz. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 14:18, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Minderbinder: What I mean, just read the guidelines and go for it! Your own uploaded files you can always change under Criterion 1. Commons:Requests_for_rights - Good luck - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 16:11, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Richardkiwi, thank you for your feedback. I've put my hat in the ring: Commons:Requests for rights#Minderbinder. --Minderbinder (talk) 16:39, 17 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Richardkiwi

I had rejected this renaming several times because:

  • the map shows much more than the territories of present-day Algeria (Morocco, Tunisia, Libya,...). So no reason to mention Algeria as the only name in the title.
  • The name "Algeria" is a recent name that appeared around the beginning of the 19th century. Its territory was previously ruled by the Ottomans (under the name of the "Regenced d'Alger"). It is anachronistic to use the term "Algeria" before this time.
  • This user (@Takiva: ) is a problematic user who wants to use the word Algeria in as many filenames as possible where it doesn't make historical sense (POV). I have rejected many of his request.

Could you please rename back this file. Thx. Brgds. --Poudou99 (talk) 15:26, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I renamed it back, thanks. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 16:41, 18 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Towers in Casale Monferrato

Hi Richardwiki. I have a little question about the renaming of some files about Casale Monferrato. I'm talking about this

Yesterday I asked to move them because the original name was wrong, but only today I realized that the building is the Category:Torre Civica di Casale Monferrato, so the name it's still wrong. I write to you because you moved them. Could you please move them again? Thank you for it and for all the moves you made on my request! Bye. P.s. If I have to ask with the normal request, just tell me it, I'll do it. MrKeefeJohn (talk) 17:32, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MrKeefeJohn: , you can choose to make new requests, or place the right names here, on my talk page. If you request to rename a file shortly after it's renamed, some file movers or admins, decline it, but not all. - Grtz. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 20:21, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Or does "Santo Stefano" only have to be replaced by "Torre Civica"? I can do that for you, if you mean that? - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 20:21, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I checked on the municipality website : it's called Torre Civica, but I read somewhere also Torre di Santo Stefano. Maybe just remove the word church it's the easiest waty;-) If you can do it, I think it's better to get the right name!MrKeefeJohn (talk) 20:26, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Allrightiethen.. Is easier. Ok, I will rename them and remove the word 'church' - Regards, - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 20:30, 24 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, good job. But one word "church" still remains in "File:Church tower of Santo Stefano, of Casale Monferrato, Italy.jpg". Can you fix it? Thank you MrKeefeJohn (talk) 06:56, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see, 'church' was two times in the name, so I only saw one. Now it's fixed. :) ✓ Done - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 09:30, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong renaming

Such renaming is forbidden. Odessa and Odesa are alternative spelling of one city, and it is not obvious error. Anatoliy 🇺🇦 (talk) 12:29, 14 December 2023 (UTC) [reply]

This is being renamed for weeks now, not only by me. I will not rename them again, and let others take the decision. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 12:32, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Commons is multilingual project, and we should not use only Ukrainan spelling of city. All languages are allowed. And COM:FR forbids renaming to different language.--Anatoliy 🇺🇦 (talk) 12:36, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't know that it was another language, I just thought it was a typo. I rename here for years, so I know what the guideliness are, but I can't know all things. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 12:38, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Open en:Odesa, and read first row: Odesa (also spelled Odessa).--Anatoliy 🇺🇦 (talk) 12:40, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks! - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 12:42, 14 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, {Ahonc}}, [1] this doesn't help too. I saw this talk a few days ago. I couldn't find it, but I found the user who does the most request for Odesa. So, a user gives compliments to another user for requesting this renames. / If I do something wrong, it's normal that somebody says that, but as one of the most active file movers (of all time), this feels like I did something bad. I don't like that, doing so much work here, and then get such messages. Be more polite, like saying 'hi' or 'hello' (or whatever), when talking to me. There is a huge backlog. But forget it, I will stop talking about it. Have a good one. - Richardkiwi (talk) (talk) 13:13, 14 December 2023 (UTC)</>[reply]

Not used talk

Hello, I actually never heard of a deadname. I.m.o. the name changes after they actually changed their name and/or made it public. Older pics than keep the 'old' name, but now you talk about the deadname, I'm not sure. I will ask someone else for more information. In the meantime, you can ask for a second opinion by requesting them for renaming again. Sorry if that takes some work. Another filemover will take a look at the files, I can't predict how long that takes. If I'll find the answer, I will let you know here (with a ping), on my talk page. Thanks and regards, - Inertia6084 (talk) (talk) 10:57, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
PS I'm also a bit careful with renaming files like this. For example: on nl.wikipedia, an article got changed because someone publicly said that they wanted to be called different. What happened is that multiple users changed the article from 'she' to 'he' (or they (in Dutch: 'hun'), but they also changed the name of the discography. The vocalist was a he, but the album was recorded years before that, and that kind of information they can't change, if you know what I mean. So, decisions like this are always difficult. So please be patient, or request them again and refer to the deadname, as you did here (en:deadname). Thanks, - Inertia6084 (talk) (talk) 10:57, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
