Thank you for providing images to Wikimedia Commons. Please keep in mind that images and other files on Commons must be under a free license and should be useful to the Wikimedia projects. To allow others to use your files, some additional information must be given on the description page. Most importantly:
 • Describe what it is about in a short sentence. (What does the image show?)
 • State the author and the date of creation. If you made it yourself, say so explicitly. If it is from another Wikimedia user, link to the person's local user page. Best to use CommonsHelper.
 • If you did not create the file yourself, state the source you got it from.
 • Add a copyright tag - images without an appropriate license tag will be deleted.
 • Add the image to one or more gallery pages and/or appropriate categories, so it can be found by others. To find out where an image belongs, you can use CommonsSense.

If you copied the file from another wiki, please copy all information given there and say who uploaded it to that wiki. Use CommonsHelper.

It is recommended to use Template:Information to put that information on the description page. Have a look at Template talk:Information for details of the use of this template.

You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file.

Please add as much information as possible. If there is not sufficient information, the file may have to be deleted. For more information, follow the Commons:First steps guide. If you need help or have questions, please ask at the Help desk.

Thank you.

Good question, before it displaied the image's name :S now I'll try to find out how to do. For the let me a note thing, I'm not english (as you've seen) and I had not better ideas.. would you like to correct that page? I would really thank you.. :-) (if yes, tell me that I unprotect the page ;-)). I'll let you know for the template problem. --Filnik\b[Rr]ock\b!? 16:02, 13 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image renaming[edit]

I saw that you tagged a image for rename but your not on the checkpage for the bot (Commons:MediaMoveBot/CheckPage) Please go to the the talk page and put your name up for approval so that the bot can automatically rename your request instead of waiting for someone else on that list to confirm for you. From Eric de Kolb[edit]

By the way, your User Talk doesn't have a "new section" tab. Your comment that ArtInternational is dubious. Well perhaps I will delete it. There is a picture of Eric de Kolb there at a Bodley Gallery Show. Why is it dubious, please explain. I will gladly delete it if I cannot use it.

So how do I change the licensing? What do I do. It was in an art periodical and Eric de Kolb is there. Is there something I can do to change this so it is correct?

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Hello, AnonMoos!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

I'm afraid I missed your recent comments here, only noticing them today when the page popped up on my watchlist again as the deletion request was closed.

In response to the first of your comments, the project scope already makes it clear that images "Must be realistically useful for an educational purpose" so no policy change is required. An exemption for user page images also already exists; "the uploading of small numbers of images (eg of yourself) for use on a personal user page of another project is allowed".

I'm not sure why you mention File:No Israel.svg and Image:Israel flag crossed.png though, the implication seemed to be that I've previously suggested they have educational value but that is completely false. If I recall correctly, I didn't take part in the deletion discussions about those images. I also recall later expressing my opinion that they lack any real value and should probably be deleted though you'll have to trust me on that because I've no idea where and when I made that comment.

Regarding Commons:Deletion requests/File:Fighting Israel for dummies.png, I clearly explained at the time the reason for removing your comments. You are welcome to ask any question you like provided you do so at an appropriate venue, a closed deletion request doesn't count as such and I am confident that would be the consensus of the rest of the community if it was debated. Your assertion that I have a "passionate eager anxious avid desire to prevent me from even asking such questions" is therefore complete nonsense.

If you have concerns about File:No Israel.svg, Image:Israel flag crossed.png, or my behaviour in relation to Commons:Deletion requests/File:Fighting Israel for dummies.png then please raise them at an appropriate venue. Do not continue to make potentially misleading comments about me in only tenuously related discussions. If you would like to nominate File:No Israel.svg or Image:Israel flag crossed.png for deletion then I will happily support you though I don't it is possible to be confident the deletion request would be successful, hence why I've not nominated them myself. Jersey Tourism[edit]

Thanks for the question. Jersey Tourism, an agency of the Jersey government, have placed a selection from their advertising archive online at Flickr under CC licences : http://www.flickr.com/photos/15715403@N03. They further state there: "Jersey Tourism is part of the States of Jersey. These images are provided freely, without copyright restrictions and no royalties are payable." They may, of course, be mistaken about the status of images and text commissioned by themselves as a government agency, but for now I suggest we can rely on their statements. I'll add an explanatory text to the images I'm uploading from Flickr to clarify. Thanks! Man vyi (talk) 09:44, 14 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If the copyright has expired, that would leave the image in the public domain, not released under a random CC license. Why do you believe it public domain? Could you please tag it with the correct copyright tag? J Milburn (talk) 18:11, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If you are claiming that the flag is under a Creative Commons license, then the image should have evidence of permission from the copyright holder. If you are claiming that the flag is in the public domain, it should be tagged with the appropriate license. It cannot be both. Therefore, my tagging is correct- you are welcome to remove the tag after providing permission, or remove the tag if you are going to instead claim that image is in the public domain (once you have provided some evidence). J Milburn (talk) 01:16, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If the flag is public domain, provide some evidence and tag it as such. If not, stop removing the deletion notice. J Milburn (talk) 22:26, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If a design is out of copyright, a simple reproduction of said design is also out of copyright. This is cited no end on Wikipedia and on Commons, and is the very reason templates like PD-old exist (as, let's be fair, there are not going to be any files on the Internet that old, only what they show). The burden of proof lies with those wishing to demonstrate that an image is free- this is why we require OTRS permission, rather than just taking someone's word for it. As such, if the original design is public domain, so is this file (in the eyes of US law and the Wikimedia Foundation) and should be tagged as such. If not, only the copyright holder of the design of the flag (probably the original author or his decendants) have the right to release it under a free license- for which we would need to see some OTRS permission. I would appreciate it if you dropped the personal comments- I'm being perfectly civil with you despite your edit-warring and refusal to attempt to rectify the situation. J Milburn (talk) 22:52, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Note that the latest reversion was not by me, so I am not the only one who believes my position is consistent with Wikimedia copyright policy. J Milburn (talk) 23:27, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
That's rubbish. I tag lots of images and there is very little controversy- your edit warring is the only thing creating a problem here. If, rather than spouting nonsense and abuse, you actually provided some evidence of PD/CC licensing, as would be required if you were going to remove a deletion notice, there would be no problem. J Milburn (talk) 23:44, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category:女[edit]

Sorry, I did not realize that I fought an edit war against you - my fault, I did not look into the history, I only mentioned that there was an extraneous category. And I did not remember that I had put it off before. All the pictures in 女 are contained in Radical 038; therefore pictures, if catagorized in both, are over-categorized. Within the last time I am doing a lot of categorizing work in the commons (they are in need of!). The last weeks I am on the traditional radicals, and there ist still work for some days. Once I asked at Commons_talk:Stroke_Order_Project#Catgorization_problems about a proper way for good categorization, intending that we need a decision about a system. IMHO I think that you did an overcategorization, and I cannot see why it should be an advantage. But, if you either have a rational reason, or you are just wanting it that way, I will not worry about.

In the future I will look not to de-edit any more your edits. Greetings from --Sarang (talk) 14:50, 24 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Grape pressing[edit]

Hi AnonMoos - I moved it because Commons uses normal standard English for categories, not slang; just as it is e.g. Category:Children, not Category:Kiddies. Grape pressing is the best and most comprehensive term for the activity, as it allows for greater inclusiveness than e.g. Category:Grape treading would. But if one eventually wants a category restricted to only pressing by human feet, then Category:Grape treading would be the name to use. Hope this helps! - MPF (talk) 08:17, 31 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I've investigated and conclude a separation from pressing is justified, so I've moved the pics to Cat:Grape treading and placed it as a subcat of Cat:Wine presses; there was also a pic already in Cat:Wine presses that categorises better in Cat:Grape treading too. Treading is the term used by Johnson's authoritative World Atlas of Wine; he doesn't use slang terms like 'stomp'. - MPF (talk) 08:13, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks; "However, for the record, stomping is not "slang"..." - looked it up, 'American dialect' is perhaps more accurate than 'slang', the dictionaries that mentioned it at all cite it as a USA variant of 'stamping'. Either way, not really regular English appropriate for a category name in an international context. - MPF (talk) 11:02, 2 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Resizing issue[edit]

Thank you very much for correcting File:Greek temples.svg. We really needed a better version of that important illustration. But like this I get a bit put off vectorising things from Commons in fear that the same might happen and I wouldn't know how to deal with it. I know nothing about SVG coding and also suppose that something as simple as page resizing should work for anyone straight on the interface, without coding knowledge. Can you tell me what actually went wrong, so that I know when I resize in future? Cheers. --B. Jankuloski (talk) 07:47, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While that's the literal translation from the French, the English equivalent of the term is "don't overlook". The French isn't saying "catch it before it's gone" but rather "make sure you pay attention", or "don't overlook". I didn't want to end up in an edit war so thought I'd talk it through instead ;) Cheers, -- Editor at Largetalk 14:15, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your help fixing this problem, but annotation to the image without the image is of not much use. I was really hoping for a change of Commons software to allow this king of proper SVG files, and before ImmageAnnotator tool came along I was hoping this could be a good way to annotate some of our images. So I preferred the file as it was and even if Commons thumbnail tools could not display it, it was useful as a raw format of some of PNG maps we have. I hope you do not mind if I bring the image back. --Jarekt (talk) 02:26, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Nordic Cross flags[edit]

Yeah, I know it kinda looks like that, but what I was doing was sorting the catagory. I removed PNG versions when there was an SVG available, as well as removing duplicates. I also had to removed them all and re-insert them by country so that I could make sure I got every one and put them in alphabetically, so it's easier to find the ones you want by scrolling to the letter you want, instead of having to go here and there to find all the ones from one country. Also a few didn't belong, like the flag of Cornwall, which isn't a Nordic Cross at all. Fry1989 (talk) 21:04, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Flags with Cantons[edit]

As I explained with the nordic cross flags issue, I remove them all first, and then re-insert them nation by nation to make sure none are missed, and so I can do it alphabetically. Right now I'm only on Fiji, I'm getting there, just be pation and the catagorey will have the ones I removed back in, and in proper order.

Regarding the Chinese Soviet flag, not in the stricter form, but the Hammer and Sickle and well as the star are in Canton position. Just chill, I am doing this nation by nation, it takes time!

Flags with Cantons[edit]

I know exactly what a catagorey is for, as you said every image containing that characteristic. As I SAID, I am adding them all nation by nation, I started in the A's, and have only gotten to F. The reason I removed them all first, is so that as I go through each nation, I can re-add ALL of them, making sure none are missed, and so they can be done alphabetically, so that when someone wants to go in gthe catagorey, they can juust scroll to a certain letter, instead of having to go here and there for certain ones they're looking for. Just chill, seriously, this takes me a bit of time, but when I am done, they will all be there and in ORDER. Look at my past work, such as Civil Air Ensigns, or Red Ensigns, where it is all in order.

You are the one with the rude and arrogant behaviour. I have explained my intentions to you several times, as well as my method. I will tell you one more time but if you're too thick to understand it, that's your propblem. FIRST, I purge the catagorey. Second, I go through EACH nation one by one starting at A and ending at Z, adding the flags from that nation into the catagorey, alphabettically and in order. There is nothing random about what I am doing, and it DOES serve other people quite well. I told you to stop spamming me, I am working on Civil and Merchant ensigns, and adding flags that are CIVIL ENSIGNS. I forgot to sign my last comments, and that's the only thing I will appologize for. Now, stop bother me unless you have something constructive to say, or I will make a formal complaint against you Fry1989 (talk) 23:18, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File:Flag of Nairobi.svg[edit]

Since I created the new version from scratch I don't consider it necessary to keep authorship information for a long-gone version. Besides, the author of the original file is still visible in the File history. So nothing is lost, actually. The original version was of very poor quality, though—it looked rather like an automatic vectorization of the PNG version. If the file wouldn't have been named like WikiProject Flags suggests I wouldn't have hesitated to just mark it as superseded, though. —Johannes Rössel (talk) 02:11, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Trefoils[edit]

As you have now twice changed the category I had added to File:Sayneinen vaakuna.svg, I have now moved also all the rest of Finnish coat of arms blazoned as trefoiled under Category:Trefoils. Honesty speaking I am not happy of this change as trefoiled in Finnish heraldry refers to the shape of plant (clover), and they are now under Christian symbols - which they are not, but maybe this could be fixed by adding Trifoils under Category:Plants in heraldry? --Care (talk) 18:24, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

In this particular case the shape is especially blazoned to be a clover (or trefoil as plant). Further explanation of symbolism behind the motive says that the S-shape of line refers to the name of the municipality. Then clover leaves are referring to agriculture, which was important source of livelihood locally. While the shape may be close of that of Christian symbol, it has nothing to do with that. --Care (talk) 20:37, 31 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I will take a look on this a little bit later. As drawing should follow blazon and not vice versa - which is the reason why there can be slightly different looking versions of the same CoA - I am pretty much in favor of following blazon for categorizing as well. --Care (talk) 09:35, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Patroller and/or Rollbacker ?[edit]

Hi AnonMoos,

I've seen some of your edits and see that you are also active in Undo'ing bad edits. If you are interested, I would like you to request the Patroller right and/or the Rollback right. By then marking the edits you have reverted as [patrolled], you will save us 1 additional edit to check. Since you're a long-time user and already are Autopatrolled, you can simply leave a message here and it will be taken care of shortly. –Krinkletalk 09:29, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you don't have to be able to say everything perfect and diplomatic. Even an administrator doesn't have to (and shouldn't in my opinion) always be diplomatic about stuff. Though there are pages written about the rights (Commons:Patrol and Commons:Rollback). I'll quickly summarise what they are and what it means for the project.
Being a patroller means when viewing the diff-screen ("green/yelloe before-after view") you'll see an extra link you didn't have before, called [mark as patrolled]. Clicking that link will remove it from the 'unpatrolled edits queue'. Though both registered users' edits and anonymous edits, the latter ones are the one we (try to) systematicly and fully patrol. For more on that see COM:ANO where there are checklists by day, in timeframes. The goal is to have every timeframe patrolled.
Being a Rollbacker means you see yet another extra link in the diff-view. This time a link called, [rollback]. It works lot like (Undo) but here are two differences: 1) You don't need to click 'Save page' in between. 2) It doesn't undo the latest edits perse, but it reverts the page back to the last version before the last author edited the page. So if a vandal edits the page twice or more times you can click [rollback] on the latest one and revert it all the way back to where it was.
Again requests for either or both go here. –Krinkletalk 10:36, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, AnonMoos. I agree that this file (and its companion File:Orthodox Jews protest against Israel 2.jpg) should be renamed. Irish Air Corps roundel[edit]

IDK if your computer screen isn't displaying it right or what else, but I didn't make it black, I made the green darker, as per all the pics I could find of the Roundel itself applied on aircraft, including the pic I sourced to the file. Fry1989 (talk) 15:25, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please do not change the roundel back again. I will look into the matter, as I agree it can look almost blackish depending on illumination, but for now, it should stay at the accurate green used by the Irish Air Corps when applied to fuselage. Fry1989 (talk) 22:29, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
And what Government Source claims have I made about the Irish Roundel???? None. I have made observational claims, based on dozens of photos of the Roundel in application. I will try and find a better green, however the olive green you keep reverting to is TOO light. Please give me time to find a better green, it wont take much time, I'm looking into it right now. If I can give a suggestion, why not use the colors that are used on the Irish flag image. I know for some roundels, like Cuba, you wanted to match the flag color. Let's try it in that case. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 04:28, 14 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No clue. It works at every smaller dimension, so I think it's just a temporary glitch. If it doesn't resolve by tomorrow, I'll resave and upload again. It'll get bigger, of course, as I'll want to use maximum quality, instead of the standard 98%. Adam Cuerden (talk) 01:45, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Saving multiple times degrades it, though. Adam Cuerden (talk) 05:52, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
YEs. Which doesn't help much when I've been unable to GET the source file. I asked Durova for it repeatedly , but was just encouraged to make the edits, with the parts asking for the source ignored. Adam Cuerden (talk) 11:38, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, it looks right now like the genius[1] developers set a limit of 1 MP on the thumbnailer, which affects all new uploads. I've bugrepped it, we'll see what happens. Adam Cuerden (talk) 11:39, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Flag of Bolnisi.svg[edit]

Thanks - criticism from a professional is always acceptable and even pleasant. I have corrected the size of the flag, is it ok now? Thank's again!

P.S. Do you like drawing such files? If you do, I have some from Georgian temples... It would be wonderful if you have drawn them...--George M. (talk) 04:12, 17 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for slimming my code down - I forgot to save it out as a Plain SVG, and it threw all the Inkscape rubbish in there! I'm still very new to this :o) Serenthia 22:50, 8 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File:Mack, Ludwig, Die Auferstehung.jpg, English capture[edit]

Arms of PEI[edit]

No, I will not upload it under a different name. This file was previously named as "Coa ca Prince Edward Island", and I requested it's renaming under the current name, to standardize the names for all the Provincial Shields of Canada. The version I have uploaded is how it is depicted and used by the Government of PEI and therefore it will remain under this name. If you want the other version, upload it yourself under a new name. Fry1989 (talk) 02:18, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

And regarding your comment about Blazons, yes, they are open to free heraldric interpretation. But the file, AS used by the Government, should be under the proper name. I've already had this discussion with other users and an Admin regarding other arms. Fry1989 (talk) 02:20, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You may or may::I not be stupid, but a government, as supreme head and armiger of the Arms themselves, has a right to say how they are to look. Atleast have respect for that. Fry1989 (talk) 02:29, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have given you the option to re-upload the other version yourself under the name of Blazon. No, we are not requiired to depict as such, but we are obliged to, in the spirit that we are using the emblem in reference to the Province and any article relating to it on here and other language wikipedias. You are ignorant of that fact. My basis for this version is not only from the Governmnet websites, but from the Standard of the Lieutant Governor, who uses the arms in Chief for his office. You have absolutely no respect for the fact that a Government has the right to describe and depict it's own Arms, outside of any free interpretation of it's blazon, and how that government choses and uses it's appearance, THAT is the official version. Fry1989 (talk) 02:38, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You aren't even giving me time to do anything about this matter because you are so pushy and stuck in your head. Therefore I am requred to contact an Admin about this. Leave the file alone, while I contact the Original uploader. It is his decision if the work can be over-written(which I might add is done quite regularily on here by everyone, and I don't see you complaining about that with THEM!) NOT YOU. If he so wishes, he and I can work together to upload his Blazon on here, but stop acting like you speak for him. Fry1989 (talk) 02:50, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have contacted the User regarding the Arms. If he does not reply within a few days, I will move the comment to his talk page on the French Wikipedia. Please await a reply. Fry1989 (talk) 02:56, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The views of the original uploader are no more determinative than any other Commons uploader; (s)he does not "own" the file. In any case, I have posted my thoughts on Fry1989's talk page. Regards,--Skeezix1000 (talk) 17:55, 15 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I noticed that a lot of the emblems of Canada were uploaded based from users from the French Wikipedia (and the names reflect that). I am not worried about the names now since both Canada uses English and French. As Fry can attest (and a few others) I do try and follow government specifications when it comes to symbols, especially flags. Coat of arms is something I have not have real expertise in, but I can bug the same people about sources and also images. User:Zscout370 (Return fire) 04:16, 16 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

"Category:Ethnographic female toplessness"[edit]

An element of the popularizing of many old ethnographic works was the emphasis on the fascination about how different mores were in other cultures. Perhaps you are right, it is difficult to draw the line and tell when some pictures were not intended to be "ethnographic" in the scientific sense. Although I reckon that some of them ended up serving the same purpose. Xufanc (talk) 21:56, 18 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki is a hell-hole.[edit]

In this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections,_2010

While I appreciate your efforts to improve the SVG image that I was having trouble with, in the end you introduced some errors as well. So it's like one step forward, two steps back.

Unfortunately, Wikipedia and Wikimedia is such a bug-ridden hell-hole I've just about given up.

I would have appreciated some guidance about why the preferred SVG files have so many problems. I've spent many hours over several days trying to hammer a simple chart into a format compatible with the WikiMess.

I've had to modify fonts in the original to the ones licensed by Wiki. I've had to go thru a lengthy pipeline to get from Excel to Wiki, and frankly it's just not worth it.

I'm astonished at how much computer code crap is thrown at the user. Python scripts? Manually editing XML? Asking the user (article writer) to do that reflects badly on the Wiki's really lousy user interface and no doubt, underlying code.

Wiki "bots" constantly suggest that I do things (like catalog images) yet either don't tell you how to do it. If they provide a link at all, it will likely be a dead link. There are too many alternate (but subtly different) views of ones user account, that makes it all but impossible to properly organize and maintain ones content.

Editing on Wiki is similar to creating web pages 20 YEARS ago. Directly edit HTML was fine then, but sheesh, it's the 21st Century.

Wiki is a frustrating mess. -- 17:34, 29 September 2010 User:NateOceanside
