Thanks for uploading File:Uzbin valley ambush-map 2.svg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Compte officiel malheureusement bloqué

Bonjour Rama,

Rama (talk) 10:57, 12 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Affiche Qu arrive t il a la peche-IMG 9656.JPG. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Affiche Qu arrive t il a la peche-IMG 9656.JPG]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Images of UNIL - Genopode

Rama (talk) 10:02, 22 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Quality Image Promotion

Your image has been reviewed and promoted

Congratulations! Arlette Laguiller mp3h9252.jpg, which was produced by you, was reviewed and has now been promoted to Quality Image status.

If you would like to nominate another image, please do so at Quality images candidates.

We also invite you to take part in the categorization of recently promoted quality images.
Comments Quality is good enough for QI, in my opinion: Although the left side of her face (viewer's right) is not as sharp as the right side (a) that's OK and (b) capturing that expression and the angle of her head makes this a very good portrait. I checked fr.wikipedia, and there's no article about the Hortefeux law, so it would help viewers if that law could be very briefly described in the file description. -- Ikan Kekek 02:07, 23 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

When this says Place de Nations, I figured that means the UN Headquarters in Geneva, but... it's got a French CC license, which makes me think it was taken in France. So I guess I'm just a bit confused. TimothyJosephWood 16:16, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Place des Nations is in Geneva; I chose the licence to inherit from the French legal framework, as opposed to the US one, but this is not connected to where the images were taken. Rama (talk) 22:35, 13 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Skhul 5 skull

I just noticed your excellent pictures of a hominin, many thanks these are very helpful. The cast is of Skhul 5 (see Google images). It would appear, however, as if the museum information is outdated. It was found not in modern Palestine but in British Mandatory Palestine in the early 1930s in what is now Israel. Although considered a Neanderthal at the time, it is today classified as an early anatomically modern human, Homo sapiens (see Skhul and Qafzeh hominins#Skhul). Lunar meteorite-MGL 90980

Hi! I noticed the category:Lunar meteorite-MGL 90980 and I'm a bit confused. "MGL 90980" is not the name of a meteorite. As you can see here the official name for it is "Dar al Gani 400" or "DaG 400". Perhaps "MGL 90980" is the inventory number for that specific fragment at the Musée cantonal de géologie de Lausanne. For that reason I believe that we could delete category:Lunar meteorite-MGL 90980 and just keep category:Dar al Gani 400. -- Basilicofresco (msg) 17:38, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
"MGL 90980" is definitly an inventory number for the fragment, as you say. I as not aware of Category:Dar al Gani 400. I would suggest making category:Lunar meteorite-MGL 90980 a sub-category of category:Dar al Gani 400, what do you think?
Thank you for noticing this! Rama (talk) 17:58, 2 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Merci, Gonzolito (talk) 11:07, 17 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

   {{Institution:{{#property:P1612|from= {{#invoke:Wikidata|formatStatementsE|item={{{1}}}|property=p195|displayformat=raw}} }} }}
plutôt que
   {{Institution:{{#property:P1612|from={{{1}}} }} }}

Cdlt, VIGNERON (talk) 19:10, 16 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Salut,
A bientôt ! Rama (talk) 08:09, 17 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Category discussion warning

Compartmented seal-AO 26190 has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Welcome to the Structured Commons focus group!

Hello! Thank you very much for signing up to the community focus group for Structured Commons :-)

How to organize ourselves?

This focus group is new and experimental, and I welcome your tips and thoughts on how we can organize this in the most convenient and productive way. For now, I have posted a few separate topics on the focus group's talk page. Please add your questions there too! If we all add that page to our watchlist, that's probably a good way to stay up to date with current discussions. Steinsplitter has also initiated a brand new IRC channel specifically for Structured Commons: wikimedia-commons-sd (webchat) which we invite you to join. Please let me know if you have other ideas on how to work together.

Structured Commons focus group update, December 11, 2017

Hello! You are receiving this message because you signed up for the community focus group for Structured Commons :-)

Later this week, a full newsletter will be distributed, but you are the first to receive an update on new requests for feedback.

Three requests for feedback
  1. We received many additions to the spreadsheet that collects important Commons and Wikidata tools. Thank you! Now, you can participate in a survey that helps us understand and prioritize which tools and functionalities are most important for the Wikimedia Commons and Wikidata communities. The survey runs until December 22. Here's some background.
  2. Help the team decide on better names for 'captions' and 'descriptions'. You can provide input until January 3, 2018.
  3. Help collect interesting Commons files, to prepare for the data modelling challenges ahead! Continuous input is welcome there.

Suppression

Bonne continuation ! Rama (talk) 10:39, 29 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Commons - Design feedback request: Multilingual Captions

Hello! You are receiving this message because you signed up for the the community focus group for Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons.

The Structured Data on Commons team has a new design feedback request up for Multilingual Captions support in the Upload Wizard. Visit the page for more information about the potential designs. Discussion and feedback is welcome there.

On a personal note, you'll see me posting many of these communications going forward for the Structured Data project, as SandraF transitions into working on the GLAM side of things for Structured Data on Commons full time. Self-categorized categories

Hello Rama,
Many of your contributions just appeared in Commons:Database reports/Self-categorized categories.
For example Category:Terrestrial globe-MHS 753.
I fear a simple bug in User:Rama/Catdef.
Cheers Liné1 (talk) 14:50, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, sounds quite likely to be a snag in {{Rama/Catdef}}, but it could be somewhere upstream: I see that Category:Reduction compass-MHS 1939, which uses {{Artwork}}, exhibits the same behaviour. I'll look into this, thank you for the notification and good continuation! Rama (talk) 14:54, 25 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

You can find more information and examples to help find properties in a workshop on Commons. Please participate and help fill in the list, and let me know if you have any questions. Thanks! -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:53, 28 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

reduce the use of {{Object photo}} and {{Category definition: Object}} templates

Could you look at Category:Prasiolite quartz-MCG 90942 and the files inside. I was thinking about doing similar conversions to reduce the use of {{Object photo}} and {{Category definition: Object}} templates and transclusion of categories. I was thinking about starting with files using User:Rama/Catdef. What do you think about such conversion? --Jarekt (talk) 03:18, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, that decouples the description of the images from that of the category, excellent!
Do feel free to experiment on files that I have uploaded and that use User:Rama/Catdef, that was pretty much the point (well, aside from provided the images; there are a few people who have been using User:Rama/Catdef back from the time when it was the only Wikidata-powered template I knew of, for these people it might be less unsettling to convert their templates when we have a stable version, so they don't fear they are doing something wrong with their images).
By the way, do let me know if I can help in any way. I don't write you messages everything I feel grateful for your work, because it would clog your talk page, but be sure the sentiment it there — I was especially delighted when I saw the "Reference URL" field appear.
Best wishes and good continuation! Rama (talk) 07:42, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
PS: Also, your new solution does not have the bug in which photographs are put in the category of the object AND all of the category to which the object belongs, so we can dispense with the "onlyinclude" tags, which is much more elegant. Rama (talk) 08:32, 6 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I changed all uses of User:Rama/Catdef to {tl|{Art Photo}} templates when used in files and replaced them with {{Wikidata Infobox}} when used in Categories. Some categories still need to be added as sitelinks to wikidata but I will fix then on Monday. --Jarekt (talk) 02:11, 8 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Data - upcoming changes to viewing old file page revisions

How old revisions of file pages work are likely going to have to change for structured data. There is information about the change on the SDC hub talk page, please read it over and leave feedback if you have any. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 15:30, 28 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Error in image colour

Hi Rama,

While reading this article - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Fight_Between_Carnival_and_Lent - I noticed your contribution, The figure of Carnival (detail), has not rendered the colour properly.

The article says, "The man behind the barrel is dressed in yellow, which is connected with deceit, and he is followed by a female figure who is carrying on her head a table with bread and waffles on it. "

But in your image, he is dressed in white.

Even in the full painting on the page, he is in yellow. Could you rectify it?

Regards, Shakescube. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shakescube (talk • contribs) 02:31, 29 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,
Fascinating! I am colour-blind, and I have been known occasionally creative rendering of important paintings, so put it charitably. In this case, I have just changed the white balance of the image to alleviate the problem somewhat, but I fear that some areas of the image have had their colours blown to the extent that information has been lost. Do not hesitate to make a crop from a correct, high-resolution image of the whole painting to replace my image should it be needed.
Thank you again and congratulations for spotting this snag, and good continuation! Rama (talk) 06:52, 29 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

File:Mirror-MG 15014-IMG 9556-gradient.jpg

There is a conflict on the page Mirror-MG 15014-IMG 9556-gradient.jpg /Commons, between the date : "IIIe siècle av. J.-C. " and the period : "Six Dynasties" (220-589 ). Is it possible to solve the problem ? Thank you for your work. (Ismoon (talk) 22:30, 10 October 2018 (UTC)).[reply]

Bonjour,
Bonne continuation ! Rama (talk) 08:58, 11 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Structured Data - IRC office hour today, 1 November

The above message says 1 October in the body when it should say 1 November, as the subject line says. Apologies for making a new section by mass message, it's the only way to get this out quickly. See you in twenty minutes! -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 16:37, 1 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've posted a second round of designs for modeling copyright and licensing in structured data. These redesigns are based off the feedback received in the first round of designs, and the development team is looking for more discussion. These designs are extremely important for the Commons community to review, as they deal with how copyright and licensing is translated from templates into structured form. I look forward to seeing you over there. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 16:25, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Use of the photo about the painting Battle of Grand Port

Our translation company is considering to use your photo https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Grand_Port_mg6971.jpg in the cover of the translation of Alexandre Dumas's book Georges to Finnish. We will include the following info in the title pages of the book

Name date of the painting and the painter Photograph by Rama, Wikimedia Commons, Cc-by-sa-2.0-fr

Is that acceptable? — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 212.149.193.50 (talk) 12:48, 15 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

This media was probably deleted.
Thanks for uploading File:PIEM,Futuroscop.jpg.

Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:PIEM,Futuroscop.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

File:Jonas Kress-IMG 2325.JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Multilingual captions beta testing

The Structured Data on Commons team has begun beta testing of the first feature, multilingual file captions, and all community members are invited to test it out. Captions is based on designs discussed with the community[3][4] and the team is looking forward to hearing about testing. If all goes well during testing, captions will be turned on for Commons around the second week of January, 2019.

Multilingual captions are plain text fields that provide brief, easily translatable details of a file in a way that is easy to create, edit, and curate. Captions are added during the upload process using the UploadWizard, or they can be added directly on any file page on Commons. Adding captions in multiple languages is a simple process that requires only a few steps.

The details:

  • There is a help page available on how to use multilingual file captions.
  • Testing will take place on Beta Commons. If you don’t yet have an account set up there, you’ll need one.
  • Beta Commons is a testbed, and not configured exactly like the real Commons site, so expect to see some discrepancies with user interface (UI) elements like search.
  • Structured Data introduces the potential for many important page changes to happen at once, which could flood the recent changes list. Because of this, Enhanced Recent Changes is enabled as it currently is at Commons, but with some UI changes.
  • Feedback and commentary on the file caption functionality are welcome and encouraged on the discussion page for this post.
  • Some testing has already taken place and the team are aware of some issues. A list of known issues can be seen below.
  • If you discover a bug/issue that is not covered in the known issues, please file a ticket on Phabricator and tag it with the “Multimedia” tag. Use this link to file a new task already tagged with "Multimedia."

Known issues:

Thanks!
