Valued Image Promotion
Congratulations! The image you nominated was reviewed and has now been promoted as a valued image. It is considered to be the most valued image on Commons within the scope:
Silver Freya (ship, 2011).
If you would like to nominate another image, please do so at Valued images candidates.
Dear Christian,
Can you kindly review just the top 7 images by Lymantria. I always review his other images but I think a second reviewer is preferable too--just in case--for a precaution. I don't feel comfortable being the only reviewer here. Thank You, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:50, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Once someone filed a DR on an account with youtube clips and I marked most of the images but luckily there was a second reviewer of one of the images too...and he supported me. If not, I could not say that someone else also reviewed an image from the youtube account thereby proving it was once free before the license was changed. Best, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:53, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Done No problems. Christian Ferrer (talk) 04:03, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Comment: Thanks for your help here. It is not good to just have one reviewer of images from one account in most cases. Best Regards, --Leoboudv (talk) 05:35, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
Structured Data - copyright and licensing statements
Could you undelete this file? The license was valid. The photo was taken in 2007 and the licensor's license terms for photos from MON were changed in September 2013. There's more photos taken by MON on Commons (the ones i mentioned in the deletion request: File:Czołg lekki PL-01 (01).jpg, File:Czołg lekki PL-01 (02).jpg, File:Gen. Marek Dukaczewski.JPG, File:Jarosław Kraszewski.JPG). There's even an entire category of them. ElCet (talk) 22:29, 2 November 2018 (UTC)
- Not sure that I can undelete it, I remember to have hesitated. The template {{MONCopyright}} is explicit "this template is no longer usable for uploads after this date" (September 2013) however the deleted file was uploaded here the 3 August 2018. While it's true that the photo was maybe available at source before September 2007, it does not really matter because now your source is not free, and I guess that what matter for the validity of this kind of source is the license at the time of the upload. This is not a CC license, and nothing say us that such conditions were irrevocable, see User:Nemo5576/MON. Sorry from my point of view your source is not OK. Christian Ferrer (talk) 07:21, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- What about the files i mentioned? File:Gen. Marek Dukaczewski.JPG and File:Jarosław Kraszewski.JPG were uploaded in January 2018. File:Czołg lekki PL-01 (01).jpg and File:Czołg lekki PL-01 (02).jpg were uploaded in 20 September 2013. The license was changed before 14th of September. Also, User:Nemo5576/MON doesn't specify if the license is valid for files uploaded to Commons or MON. Photos taken by MON before September 2013 don't mention their authors. ElCet (talk) 09:54, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- I don't know about the other files, I closed one DR, the other DR Commons:Deletion requests/File:Jarosław Kraszewski.JPG was closed with the rationale "files from the Ministry of National Defence of Poland", but IMO if this rationale is good/ok then a relevant license tag should be used instead of the ambiguous {{MONCopyright}}. Really sorry, but I'm not going to undelete this image, if another administrator wants to take responsibility for restoring it, then it's fine for me. Maybe you should make a request at Commons:Undeletion requests. Sorry again. Christian Ferrer (talk) 10:37, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
Unjustified deletion of useful file
"Thank you" for your efforts to diminish wiki. I'll definitely never work to enrich the project by third party photos... I'll never convince them to share their photos here again. --Ⴂ. ႡႠႪႠႾႠႻႤ★ 21:01, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
- You should have been advised to get the copyright holders to contact us with permission by OTRS, or you could have asked for guidance. You left it for six weeks. I'd advise going the OTRS route, then once that has arrived, request undeletion. Cheers. Rodhullandemu (talk) 21:26, 3 November 2018 (UTC)
The page you linked as source has a clear "All right reserved" at bottom. The other page you quoted have indeed a CC-BY license, but sorry, at first view this license seems to applies only to that web page. They have to replace the "all right reserved" by the CC-By license on the page(s) that you use as source, or they have to remove the "all right reserved" from the bottom of their pages and then to create a term of use page with a clear lisencing statement. Otherwise indeed as pointed by Rodhullandemu we need a permission via OTRS. Sorry if I damaged your enthusiasm, it's clearly not my goal. But you can not expect to upload a file whose source is " all right reserved" and that this file be reviewed and kept, can you? Christian Ferrer (talk) 05:46, 4 November 2018 (UTC)

- People have hard understanding of our rules. I tried to explain to them that it is necessary to replace the "all right reserved" by CC-By license but they failed, instead they placed it in every article separately. I am disappointed because there in no one who is against to use the photos under free license but because of "bureaucracy" we are damaging wiki. --Ⴂ. ႡႠႪႠႾႠႻႤ★ 11:42, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

As you can see on the copyright status, I am the artist for the picture. I would like to know how to make my copyright status better so that I can avoid deletion request? Question technique
Bonjour Christian.
- soit les photos on été prises dans un cadre professionnel et dans ce cas les photos appartiennent de facto au ministère, et je ne pense pas qu'un service particulier puisse se substituer au ministère pour publier de telles photos;

Encore merci, --Domenjod (talk) 18:22, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

deleted images
Hello Christian Ferrer.
I just read the message about the images that were deleted. I do not think there is a reason for this, because:
a) Yesterday I started the creation of a page in wikipedia about the "Ephemera Archive" (of which I am a member), which, because it is still incipient, has not yet been published (https://pt.wikipedia.org/w/index.php ? title = Ephemera & action = submit).
b) The edited images are the covers of the Ephemera Collection books (our property), published by Editora Tinta da china.
c) I am also co-author of two books.
d) The covers of these books are published on various websites, particularly in online bookstores.
From what I have just described I think there is no reason why the covers can not illustrate the entry in wikipedia on the Ephemera Archive, so I ask you to revert the delete done.
I am available for any additional clarification.
best regards
Júlio Sequeira

- Hello, for every thing that have been already published somewhere we requires that this publication was explicitly published under a compatible license, otherwise the copyright holder (even if it is you) have to send a permission to our permission system. In case of book covers the publishers usually also have some (if not the full) rights over the covers of the books that they publish. E.g. Stephen King himself can not give to us the permission to use one of his book covers, the permission must come from the publisher, but anyway even for the exceptional cases the copyright holder, whoever he is, must send a permission by email. Wikidata Gallery update
Just as a heads-up, I rewrote {{Wikidata Gallery}} (or more precisely, created {{Wikidata list/Gallery item}}) so that it now uses Module:WikidataIB and should be multilingual in the same way as the infobox is. Existing galleries won't have been updated, though, you can update them by making this change (or using {{Wikidata Gallery}} to recreate it). Let me know if you spot any problems with the new version. Thanks. Mike Peel (talk) 23:00, 23 November 2018 (UTC)

Hi Christian,
Thanks for your message regarding File:OlgaGarcia.jpg tagging. To be honest I need some help. License from author was provided via email and it is documented in this ticket - https://ticket.wikimedia.org/otrs/index.pl?Action=AgentTicketZoom&TicketNumber=2018112210006505
The license is provided to all the pictures in the folder mentioned in my upload. I wanted to refer to this ticket when I uploaded this specific picture but if I chose the license I didnt find a place to add comments and if I chose other source license type was nowhere to be selected.
I am planning to upload more pictures from this folder, what is the best option to use to avoid creating more admin work for you and the other volunteers?
Thanks Junta (talk) 20:49, 28 November 2018 (UTC)
- Hello, there is a backlog for the permission system and there is a queue, before someone looks and confirm the permission. I don't have access myself to that system neither to your ticket above. You have to wait that an authorized user do it. I'm not a specialist about the permission system of Wikimedia Commons, but I guess you have to use {{OTRS pending}} with the right parameters, for the file mentioned above as well as for all the others potentially to come. If you have still difficulties I think that Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard is the right place to ask questions. Sorry for not being able to help you more. Note that if this is the same permission than for File:Laia Aleixandri.jpg, then the permission seems to have been already checked and maybe you should ask directly in Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard what to do for this file and for the other you want to upload. Borrado de Fotos
Dear Cristian
I get in touch with you because image and video files of articles that were already published and others that I was preparing have been erased. All photos and videos are my property or I have authorization to use them. It is possible that being a novice has made some mistake when documenting them.
For all this I ask you to reconsider your decision or that you are so kind to indicate me what is the error so that I can solve it.
The deleted files are the following:

- Hello, the images were deleted because they have been previously published in the Web. Example File:Barco de artes menores de Pescaturismo.jpg can be seen in [1] that is "all right reserved". As per our policies com:Licensing and com:Scope we accept only free content. There is two way to upload this photo here, 1/a free compatible license is added at the bottom of the website instead of the "All right reserved", or 2/ the copyright holder, even if it is you, must send a permission to our permission system. - Partners and allies
- The info portal on Structured Commons now includes a section on GLAM (Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums).
- We are currently planning the first GLAM pilot projects that will use structured data on Wikimedia Commons. One project has already started: the Swedish Heritage Board researches and develops a prototype tool to provide improved metadata (translations, data additions...) from Wikimedia Commons back to the source institution. Read the project brief.
- The documentation for batch uploads of files to Wikimedia Commons will be improved in 2019, as part of preparing for Structured Data on Wikimedia Commons. To prepare, the GLAM team at the Wikimedia Foundation wants to understand better which types of documentation you already use, and how you like to learn new GLAM-Wiki skills and knowledge. Fill in a short survey to provide input!

I took these photos. This is not a scanned image of some book or DVD cover, but a photo of the product and a collage created by me personally.
According to the laws of the United States of America, reproductions of two-dimensional objects of art (paintings, photographs, book illustrations) cannot be subject to copyright, unless the creation of a reproduction has made some creative contribution (for example, retouching effects). For example, if you take a photo of Dzhokondu from a direct perspective, your photo will not create a new copyright, and it can be used as a public domain (see the information about the trial Bridgeman Art Library against Corel).
Corel). - No this material is not free, see Commons:Derivative works and com:Licensing. Seeing your comment above, the question is more "how much is there of copyright infringement on this file alone?" rather than "is this file a copyright violation?". - You can not take the little part of the USA copyright law that suits you, and then apply it to everything else. The allowed reproductions of two-dimensional objects of art are strictly for 2D objects (a DvD or a disc are not 2D objects) and strictly for Public Domain material. Multilingual captions beta testing
The Structured Data on Commons team has begun beta testing of the first feature, multilingual file captions, and all community members are invited to test it out. Captions is based on designs discussed with the community[2][3] and the team is looking forward to hearing about testing. If all goes well during testing, captions will be turned on for Commons around the second week of January, 2019.
Multilingual captions are plain text fields that provide brief, easily translatable details of a file in a way that is easy to create, edit, and curate. Captions are added during the upload process using the UploadWizard, or they can be added directly on any file page on Commons. Adding captions in multiple languages is a simple process that requires only a few steps.
The details:
- There is a help page available on how to use multilingual file captions.
- Testing will take place on Beta Commons. If you don’t yet have an account set up there, you’ll need one.
- Beta Commons is a testbed, and not configured exactly like the real Commons site, so expect to see some discrepancies with user interface (UI) elements like search.
- Structured Data introduces the potential for many important page changes to happen at once, which could flood the recent changes list. Because of this, Enhanced Recent Changes is enabled as it currently is at Commons, but with some UI changes.
- Feedback and commentary on the file caption functionality are welcome and encouraged on the discussion page for this post.
- Some testing has already taken place and the team are aware of some issues. A list of known issues can be seen below.
- If you discover a bug/issue that is not covered in the known issues, please file a ticket on Phabricator and tag it with the “Multimedia” tag. Use this link to file a new task already tagged with "Multimedia."
Known issues:
- Search is not currently working on Beta Commons. Search is not needed for testing captions, but service should be restored soon.
- Language name display inconsistencies in multilingual file captions
- Language names for multilingual File captions can run into the caption value in the mobile view
- Deleting a caption field that has text that exceeds the limit does not re-enable the "publish" button
- "Edit" tab for past revisions should be "restore"
- When using the back button, recently added captions sometimes don't display in Chrome
- File Captions can't be edited on mobile browsers
- Wrong font weight for some language labels on SDC captions box
Thanks!

Image deleted on Cynthia Nielsen's page
Hi Christian, I own the image that I posted of Cynthia Nielsen. However, I am new to Wikipedia, so perhaps I did not follow protocol. I did read an entry and uploaded the image first to Wiki Commons. Can you help me as to what I should do to correct any errors so that I can reload the image? Thank you! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kzolatova (talk • contribs) 16:40, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
What's different? That file is not free to use but nobody deleted the file. Geniusjun (talk) 16:53, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
- The file will be deleted if no permission is given. And yes, there is a lot of copyright violations and/or of inappropriate content in Wikimedia Commons. A significant part of the job of the volunteers here, is to find those files. Christian Ferrer (talk) 20:00, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
image deletion question
Hi Christian, I own the image that I posted for Cynthia Nielsen's page. The image was also used for her Academia.edu website and PhilPeople website. Since I own it, I simply retrieved it from Internet. However, I can provide the original photograph. Should I reload the original photograph to Wiki Commons? If not, how should I proceed? Thank you very much for your help. --Kzolatova (talk) 17:09, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
- Hello Kzolatova, if you own an image that have been previously published somewhere where you can not change a restrictive license towards a license compatible within our policies, then the right way to proceed is to contact our permission system. Deleting my photos
I noticed that you are trying to delete the photos that I took at the Bears game. I downloaded the photos on my computer and used the scissor tool to zoom in on individual players. Do you want me to send you all the original sized photos that I took at the game as proof? — Preceding unsigned comment added by LaDanian1000000 (talk • contribs) 06:47, 25 December 2018 (UTC)
- I'm not trying to delete yours photos, otherwise, as I am an administrator, I would have managed to do it. The photos are nominated for deletion in this page. All the comments you have to make about it, should be placed directly in the page, in order to help the closing administrator if they have to keep or to delete the files. I do not want you to send me photos, however if you indeed upload the original photos in Wikimedia Commons with the full resolution, and with EXIFs, that would make it very credible that the photos are "own works". Why was my content deleted
Christian, I am the Digital Marketing Manager for Sentry Air Systems, and I am confused as to why we cannot use our photos and logo for our Wikidata page — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jaidlebird (talk • contribs) 18:36, 26 December 2018 (UTC)
- Hi,
First, to be eligible for hosting on Wikimedia Commons, all files and other content, included logos, must fall within the Commons scope.
Secondly, logos and trademarks are accepted in Wikimedia Commons only if
- they are in public domain (help) for a specific reason; or
- they are freely licensed by their owner, in such case please include a web link; or
- they are below the threshold of originality; or
- the copyright holder sends directly a permission to OTRS, where you can read how to do it. Note that even if it is you who are the copyright holder, you must send this permission.
Note also that the permissions system (OTRS) is run by volunteers and there is a queue, if your image has been deleted, and you have sent a permission (before or after deletion), do not re-upload again the erased image yourself, it's forbidden. If the permission is valid and the image meets the criteria of our project scope, then it will be automatically restored.
