Work of plagiarism selected as MOTD

As it was said before, it would help if you explained the issue in a bit of detail back then. A youtube video alleging another video is a copyright violation of a third video is not clear to everyone. Either way, the media of the day has passed. Why not report the actual file as a copyright violation? Also, I don't think you have a copyright claim on a storyline, it's not like the actual animation was passed off as theirs. It's obvious there is not much review done here if any at all. Conflict with en Wikipedia motd templates

Don't work on en Wikipedia due to a conflict with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Motd. Any use of the above templates will either render the Wikipedia Motto of the day or a redlink. All templates only work at the wiki where their code is saved. Sometimes some other wikis have saved a copy of a template, or a variation of the template, or have made an unrelated template with the same name. This is not considered a "conflict" since Commons templates never work at other wikis. There are around 320 Wikipedia languages. wikidata:Q14334596 shows 67 with a variant of {{POTD}}. I guess most or all of them show the wiki's own selected picture of the day and don't copy the Commons picture of the day. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:35, 21 May 2023 (UTC)
I was partially wrong. Wikis cannot read templates or data from Commons but they can read some data from Wikidata. wikidata:Q14334596 contains the name of the Commons picture of the day. It's updated every day with a bot edit of the Wikidata page since Wikidata is also unable to read from Commons. Many wikis have made a picture of the day template which reads the file name from Wikidata so they do display the Commons picture of the day although they don't get it from Commons but rely on the daily Wikidata update. I'm mostly familiar with the English Wikipedia which has its own picture of the day process and doesn't get it from Commons/Wikidata. PrimeHunter (talk) 03:05, 21 May 2023 (UTC)

en:User talk:Huggums537 uses en:Wikipedia:Wikimedia Commons/POTD so at the English Wikipedia there is both a way to display the local picture of the day and the Commons picture of the day. The page history of wikidata:Q14334596 shows that the update bot misses some days like 1 May 2023 so sometimes you will get the Commons picture from an earlier day. wikidata:Q16939274 shows 12 Wikipedia languages with a version of Commons:Media of the day but wikidata:Q16938957 only shows two with a version of Template:Motd. Maybe there are others which haven't been added to the Wikidata item but in any case, there are apparently few wikis with a Media of the day concept. The English Wikipedia isn't one of them as far as I know and renaming en:Template:Motd (Motto of the day) wouldn't make a difference. You would still have to create a template at the English Wikipedia to do something there, and the template could have any name. It doesn't have to be the same name as the Commons version. It may be different from versions at other wikis. en:Wikipedia:Wikimedia Commons/POTD does not read from Wikidata but from en:User:JJMC89 bot/Commons picture of the day which is updated daily by a different bot and looks more reliable than the Wikidata bot, at least in the limited period I examined. Contrary to pictures, there is no functioning contest for videos and other media files, and there is not enough people taking care of this (proposing media, choosing media, adding description into various languages, etc.) So I suggest you start by uploading high quality media suitable for MoTD, and propose them on this talk page like mentioned above with description in several languages. Nice, two comments:
  • Having the legend when there are no indicators (all templates exist) is IMO confusing.
  • The “Today” link at the end is not intuitive for me. Making today’s number bold would be better.
