Things I do around here:
[edit]Trustee
[edit]I am a current member of the Board of Trustees of the Wikimedia Foundation. I served one term from 2010-2012 as selected by the chapters, and then was re-elected by the community to a second term from 2013-2015.
The Board is responsible for governing the Wikimedia Foundation, which in turn is responsible for providing the infrastructure to keep Commons and other Wikimedia wikis running.
Unless explicitly stated otherwise, I make edits on this wiki and on Wikipedia as a regular community member, rather than as a trustee.
Community member
[edit]- Editor on en.wp (and sometimes es.wp) since August 2003
- Occasional editor on Commons, as well as Wikidata and Wikivoyage, and sometimes other projects
- sometimes I add photos, but more often I categorize them :) I am not a terribly visual person, but I do like to be organized.
Researcher and educator
[edit]- I am interested in Wikipedia research, and I often give talks about the Wikimedia projects. See en.wp for more.
Conferences
[edit]- I have been very involved in Wikimania, and other events, for a long time. See en.wp for more.
Author
[edit]- With Charles Matthews and Ben Yates, I am the author of the book How Wikipedia Works, published by No Starch Press in September 2008. Find out more at the publisher's website or find the (GFDL/CC) text of the book at http://howwikipediaworks.net or on Wikisource: How Wikipedia Works
And the rest of the time...
[edit]In my day job, I am a physical sciences and engineering librarian at UC Davis. I am excited for the possibilities of collaborations between GLAMs, especially libraries and archives, and Commons.
Some things I care about:
[edit]- Community governance
- Meetups
- free content
- good references
