Dear ~riley,

There was permission under ticket number 2019092710004895, before or on 17 October 2019 it seems. Thank you, Hansmuller (talk) 10:48, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

PS Anyway, the photographer has sent his permission (again?), so OTRS is pending as you indicated. Thanks, Hansmuller (talk) 11:31, 10 December 2019 (UTC)
  • @Hansmuller: I am reading the ticket now. I was sitting here wondering how you managed to get permission for a bunch of files but not have any of them tagged. OTRS emailed you on October 15, 2019 asking for the category so they can put the ticket on each file. You did not respond until today, so they were never tagged. Please be careful, you are creating more work for others and putting good files at risk of deletion. ~riley (talk) 18:20, 10 December 2019 (UTC)

About your temporarily undeletions

Two days ago, I started focusing on your restoring of these 3 templates:

As suggested by that template, if the reason of restoring was to allow transfer to any projects that allow Fair use, then today those 3 templates should be speedy deleted again, but if that was to allow continuing of related discussions, then we may keep them for a maximum of 28 days, so I wonder which case, that restoring of those 3 templates were? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 06:53, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

  • @Liuxinyu970226: The temp. undeletion template is too specific, as you can see, it only relates to files. There are numerous other reasons for temporary undeletion and that template is the most applicable one to use at this point in time. The templates you are referencing were restored, temporarily, per an onwiki request and will be deleted when the needs of the request have been confirmed as met. Thanks, ~riley (talk) 07:08, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

I see. But couldn't it just be cropped instead of completely deleted?--Reseletti (talk) 11:28, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

@Reseletti: It does not appear there would be much value in the image due to the amount of crop needed. ~riley (talk) 16:02, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

I have removed the notices on the top of my user page

I agreed to recieve the autopatrol right, but it didn't solve all problems simultaneously. Alexis Jazz thinks I should use "more advanced tool", otherwise, he said: "I will every once in a while complete whatever task you are working on." I must learn how to use the more advanced tool to help with take care of the patrolling backlog, but I don't know how to use it.--Kai3952 (talk) 06:03, 11 December 2019 (UTC)

@Kai3952: I already said this, I will repeat: you are autopatrolled now. I will no longer see you in the patrol log. I have no incentive to follow you around. I will not follow you around. You can resume your work any way you please, with advanced tools or not. - Alexis Jazz ping plz 21:05, 11 December 2019 (UTC)
@Alexis Jazz: No, the real problem is not I am autopatrolled now, but you! I will not resume work until the problem is solved.--Kai3952 (talk) 08:55, 13 December 2019 (UTC)

User rights

Hi ~riley, on 15 November you appointed me as the temporary FM for 1 month here. Since that date I have renamed many files. My membership as FM is going to expire tomorrow. Please take a look at my renames and take a decision on my permanent membership as FM. Thanks.--@Tæ 15:08, 14 December 2019 (UTC)

Thank You very much.--@Tæ 05:42, 15 December 2019 (UTC)

Question?

Dear ~riley, I would like to know, as per your previous advice, am I eligible to apply for File-mover user rights now? kind regardsDéjà vu 17:46, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

Harrywhitakerr

Harrywhitakerr (talk · contribs) has uploaded a number of images which appear to be copyright violations. The King Edward image appears to be from here, the Samsung image appears to be directly from Samsung with no indication of the uploaders relation to Samsung (simply search for the model number listed in the filename and you'll find the image and more like it). The AirPods Pro image appears to be an edit of this official Apple image. —Locke Coletc 02:03, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

re: deleted image for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taha_Heydari I have uploaded a new picture in place of the deleted one and tagged it {{OTRS pending}} as apparently the artist sent the permission for the 1st image to the wrong address. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Slipandslide (talk • contribs) 19:09, 16 December 2019 (UTC)

Request

Hi ~riley, first of all I am very thankful to you for the autopatroller and filemover rights that you have granted me earlier. Today I want to request one more right from you i.e. Patroller rights. Please grant me the rights. I think my work as autopatroller is good enough here to take the patroller rights. Please see further reason at here. Thank You.-- 16:21, 1 January 2020 (UTC)

Apologies again

I am still very sorry for the quarrel with someone else on your talk page some weeks ago. My sincere apologies again! Hansmuller (talk) 10:44, 3 January 2020 (UTC)

Error for the Flag of Morocco

Hello,

The actual flag of Morocco uploaded (and fixed by you ? I saw your name in the page) is wrong, the size of the star is not correct and must be biggest.

This is the link of the flag : https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Flag_of_Morocco.svg&lang=fr&uselang=fr

Here you have a link of the correct proportions of the flag :

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Flag_of_Morocco_(GOST_construction).jpg

Can you please correct it ?

Thank you--Tehenu (talk) 00:51, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

Recovery of van Achterberg collection

Dear ~riley,

All's well that ends well. Some problems remain.

  1. after undeletion a new effect appears in all the files, for instance in the very first File:ASC Leiden - van Achterberg Collection - 01 - 01 - Un désert avec quatre dromadaires et un homme touareg - Biroten, Algérie, février 1985.tif, there is a self-referential mention of the usage of this file, perhaps because the .tif container has more pages? Is this a serious complication?
  2. during the deletion period, images from this collection where removed from Wikipedia pages in a few languages. (My goal is to promote the usage (by myself and others) of at least 5% of a collection.) * Is there a way to get a practical list of all prior usages of this collection on Wikipedia pages for restoration purposes?
  3. although the images are undeleted, thumbnails do not appear for all of them in their category overview. Is this is a temporary problem (thumbnails have to be generated first?)?
  4. another problem which had nothing to do with the deletion, appears again after undeletion. All images in subcategories appear automatically also in the higher main category, this I did not expect. (E.g., File:ASC Leiden - van Achterberg Collection - 01 - 01 - Un désert avec quatre dromadaires et un homme touareg - Biroten, Algérie, février 1985.tif resides in its own category Category:A. A. van Achterberg Collection Achterberg-01 but also unintended in the main category Category:A. A. van Achterberg Collection, which seems unpractical.) Normally, i would create an Media donated by .. (as for Naturalis Leiden) or Images of ... (as for Coutinho Collection) for an overview. So how can i prevent this spurious double occurrence?

Thank you! Hansmuller (talk) 06:32, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

@Hansmuller: Hey Hans, let's work through this!
  1. Are you referring to it self-referencing itself under "File usage"? Let's give it 24 hours to see if it works itself out. :)
  2. I believe there isn't, but there may be a log if it was removed by CommonsDelinker.
  3. Thumbnails have generated by the time I have looked at it, however, some disappeared after I edited them. Let's give it 24 hours to let the database work itself out - .tif[f] files are weird.
  4. The overcategorization was caused by your change on the transcluded template in this edit. I have removed the template to resolve this. I recommend you make an additional question as you mentioned (preference for "Files" rather than "images") and add it to the creator template, as long as it doesn't cause overcategorization.

Thoughts? ~riley (talk) 06:55, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

Thanks, i asked for a CommonsDelinker log. By the way, i still see an ominous message on for example File:ASC Leiden - van Achterberg Collection - 2 - 090 - La façade de l'institut espagnol - Al Hoceïma, Maroc - mai 1997.tif - deletion is impending? (archaic?) Hansmuller (talk) 09:48, 10 January 2020 (UTC)
@Hansmuller: Archaic notice - found on 5 of the 650ish files, now removed. Check them all, all others are good now. ~riley (talk) 20:17, 10 January 2020 (UTC)

Question

Thank you for voting in the RfA. I have a question about your comment about CSD. How did you come to that conclusion? I am certain I have nominated more than that for CSD. Is there an automated system similar to Twinkle on en.wiki. Because I have been adding {{SD}} manually. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 14:35, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

Nevermind. I found it. Sorry. --- C&C (Coffeeandcrumbs) 14:56, 12 January 2020 (UTC)
@Coffeeandcrumbs: I was just going off of Special:DeletedContributions/Coffeeandcrumbs (admin only) and reviewing edit summaries. Tons of DRs, very little CSD work. Please don't be discouraged and keep on working towards adminship. ~riley (talk) 14:59, 12 January 2020 (UTC)

License CC-BY-SA-4.0 on Van Achterberg collection?

Dear _riley, van Achterberg collection still lacks the license CC-BY-SA-4.0 on all present photographs. Shall i put it on? {{CC-BY-SA-4.0}}{{attribution|nolink=A. A. van Achterberg}} Carpe diem, Hansmuller (talk) 10:13, 14 January 2020 (UTC)

Hi Hans, as the uploader, it's your responsibility to provide the licence. Best is to do this immediately with the upload. A missing licence can be a reason to delete a file within 7 days. Ciell (talk) 15:12, 14 January 2020 (UTC)

Please reconsider autopatrol

Hi ~riley. Maybe the autopatrol you granted to User:Broichmore was a bit hasty. Please look at his talk page concerning removal of active categories without prior discussion. Cheers --Rsteen (talk) 05:11, 1 February 2020 (UTC)

  • @Rsteen: Hi Rsteen, thanks for the message. When granting user rights, we only see a snapshot of how appropriate/constructive edits are at that moment in time, it can easily change for the worse. While Broichmore doesn't have the cleanest history (see talk page), there has been improvement over time and they have become an established user in the community. I appreciate you opening up a discussion regarding his most recent edits, and will follow this discussion. While autopatroller can be removed as easily as it is given, I am not yet going to act on removing their autopatroller. Let's see where the discussion goes, and if they ignore it, raise a discussion at COM:AN/U. Thanks! ~riley (talk) 05:22, 1 February 2020 (UTC)
Found no intent of User:Broichmore to follow the rules. So how goes? Cheers --Rsteen (talk) 03:22, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
Revoked. Further discussion to COM:AN/U. ~riley (talk) 03:25, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
Thanks ~riley. I have no experience with COM:AN/U. I feel no urge to hang him out to dry, just to make him revert his edits - or do it for him. I think he is just too enthusiastic and has a hard time following all the rules, and he needs to be told to do so. By revoking his rights you have sent a clear signal, and I hope it would be all right for me now to revert those edits, so peace can be restored and the category discussions can be taken in the proper places? Cheers --Rsteen (talk) 04:30, 2 February 2020 (UTC)
I support reverting the edits to allow proper discussion. ~riley (talk) 04:31, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Requesting license reviewing rights personally

Hi, @~riley: I would like to request right so that I could help you all in reviewing images. Well, frankly speaking I'm aware that I'm too new user that definitely may be a concern to you before granting the user right to me. I think I've reached that point where you can consider me a trustworthy editor (I now have over 1000+ edits, 100+ uploads and have done a little bit of editing work at the english wikipedia). I know, and I accept my mistake that just being a user without rights I tried to review three image, which is a violations of Wikimedia policy. But I corrected my mistake and reverted those edit, and I'm not going to do so ever again. Thanks, and if I'm granted the right I can confidently review images, do consider my request ¶@N$¥¶IT@t@lk 02:06, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Blocked user Joachim von Hein in de.wikipedia

Hello ~riley, recently you blocked this user because of alleged spamming. He is a new user and I supported him a bit at Wikipedia Hannover to write his first own article, which is still at his wikipedia user site. I think there was a misunderstanding blocking him. Please check it and unblock him. Thank you. Greetings. --Onkel Tomm (talk) 08:14, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

Verifying the identity of Allan Gluck

Hi, Riley! I am attempting to assist Allan Gluck in his efforts to contribute a massive archive of images to Wikimedia Commons. He received a communication from you requesting him to verify his official email account. His original communication Ticket#2019102210009673 was sent from his official email account (Redacted). To my knowledge (Mr. Gluck and I are personally acquainted), Mr. Gluck does not maintain a personal website but does have a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/allan.gluck. I am a little confused at this point as to what additional documentation you require. I will be the official Wikimedia Commons uploader of the images and I have been a contributor to both the Commons and Wikipedia itself since 2007. As you noted in your discussions with Arthur Crbs, I am presently attempting to have Arthur undelete Mr. Gluck's images that I have already uploaded and apologize for not knowing that he would be expected to confirm his permission for each and every URL. This process is rather ponderous as he has given me hard drives with thousands of his images and would like me to upload them to the Commons as my schedule permits. I asked Arthur if there is a way to obtain an archive certificate that I could reference in the File Description section each time I upload a file so Mr. Gluck does not have to resend permissions each time. Do you know how to accomplish this task in a more expeditious manner? Most of my contributions have been my own work or work that is unquestionably in the public domain so I am unfamiliar with current OTRS policy. It would be really helpful, especially for those of us inexperienced with the OTRS process, to have a simple "cheat sheet" explaining each step of the process without redirecting us to multiple linked pages with way more information than we require to accomplish a very straightforward task. Mharrsch (talk) 16:39, 5 February 2020 (UTC)

  • @Mharrsch: Hi Mharrsch, the attempt to verify his identity is to ensure that someone else is not being fraudulent and impersonating him. As his email account is from gmail, anyone could make an email address with his name and attempt to verify his identity - it is our job to try to protect it. We need to be able to say in a court of law that we without a reasonable doubt are communicating with the actual copyright holder. If he has no website, (facebook page gives no context that assists us), he can scan in a picture of identification. As for the URLs, this is not needed - the original OTRS agent was trying to get an idea of which files Mr. Gluck was talking about - as you had not yet uploaded any of his files, they requested URLs as an option. I have no concern with the open blanket permission as he has listed you as the uploader. When permission is verified, we can give you an OTRS number that can be used on all future files. I agree, an OTRS cheat sheet would be smart. I will note down your feedback. ~riley (talk) 16:53, 5 February 2020 (UTC)
  • Riley, Allan sent me a copy of his Getty Museum docent badge but I instructed him just to resend his permissions letter to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org and attach the image of his badge to that. I hope that will be sufficient. Mharrsch (talk) 23:16, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
  • @Mharrsch: Identity and permission verified. ~riley (talk) 02:22, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

Hi ~riley, please undo your deletion of these three files. As I already have stated in the deletion request there is no copyright violation. Chaddy (talk) 14:08, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

  • @Chaddy: I am sorry, but I am unable to process undeletion of these files at this point in time. There are significant copyright concerns and there is not strong enough evidence or precedence at this point in time to keep these files. The evidence provided in the OTRS ticket is legitimate and AntiCompositeNumber's comments accurately summarize the copyright concern. ~riley (talk) 20:53, 9 February 2020 (UTC)

Hey riley, thanks for taking care of the DR above. Unfortunately you deleted some originals that I uploaded, since the copies had been processed as duplicates and been converted to redirects in the meantime. I am restoring the originals, hope that is okay. (Example: File:Cerberus bei Nacht.jpg and File:Cerberus bei Nacht 20140926 9.jpg). Sebari – aka Srittau (talk) 09:38, 10 February 2020 (UTC)

Future uploads for Allan Gluck

Riley, can I now refer to the ticket number for Gluck's permission in the file description of any future uploads of Allan Gluck's images or does each one require a consent form? Mharrsch (talk) 14:39, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

@Mharrsch: The ticket number allows for blanket permission of Allan Gluck's uploads, an additional consent form is not required. The abusefilter will prevent you from adding the ticket number yourself as your not an OTRS agent, but if you ping me, I can come along and tag them with the ticket number. ~riley (talk) 14:43, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Motoki Kurabayashi

Many thanks -- I hope that adding the OTRS tag was part of your mass process -- that you didn't have to do 130 of them one at a time.... .     Jim . . . (Jameslwoodward) (talk to me) 17:50, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

  • Glad to be of help, Jameslwoodward - it was part of the mass process, only about 5 minutes of work on my end for the undeletion/tagging and thats mainly just double checking the OTRS ticket and building the list into a format that my script accepts. ~riley (talk) 17:51, 13 February 2020 (UTC)

Could you consider reversing your speedy delete of these files while the DR is being discussed? A DR close within minutes of creation does not seem appropriate for any uploads unless there are external factors, such as copyright or harassment. Due to edit conflict, I have made my !vote at the same time as your close. Thanks -- (talk) 18:07, 14 February 2020 (UTC)

DR "admin comment section"

Hi, could you point to where in the deletion policy or guidelines, there is an "admin comment section" where non-sysops like myself are not allowed to add a helpful reference, but sysops are allowed to have a discussion after a DR closure? Thanks -- (talk) 19:24, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

  • @: Hi, could you point me to where it says in policy or guidelines that non-sysops modify a discussion closed with the following notice "This deletion debate is now closed. Please do not make any edits to this archive."? ~riley (talk) 20:10, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
The policy is COM:Administrators. The policy is explicit that sysops do not enjoy special privileges to have discussions and block out non-sysops from expressing opinions or providing evidence as was the case here. Given that deletion requests do have non-admin closures (per policy "Of course, some of these tasks can be done by non-admins as well"), it is wrong to claim that there is an "admin comment section" in a DR. Your comment in reverting my edit was therefore factually incorrect.
Please either make the choice to remove all comments post-closure, in accordance with your apparent concern to arbitrarily and literally follow the current template wording (not, in reality, a DR policy, or a norm for all deletion requests as it happens), or re-add both mine and User:Marcus Cyron's to demonstrate that you are not arbitrarily granting Marcus Cyron special rights as a current sysop not included in the community agreed definitions at COM:Administrators and an act this is specifically against the requirement that governs your actions "Apart from roles which require use of the admin tools, administrators have no special editorial authority by virtue of their position, and in discussions and public votes their contributions are treated in the same way as any ordinary editor."
Thanks -- (talk) 20:23, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
  • Hi Fae, I am not sure why you are asking me to extend a courtesy to you that you have not extended to me when you removed my closure in its entirety? MediaWiki has edit conflict warnings to ensure this doesn't happen, did you override the warning and you acknowledge that you knew a closure was made. You can't have it both ways; you can't set the precedence that it is acceptable to remove comments, and then expect your comment in a closed discussion to be maintained. There are no special privileges given to administrators, however, It is quite clear there is are different expectations as set by guidelines/policies surrounding deletion discussions. It is clearly stated on Commons:Deletion_requests#Closing_discussions that administrators have a different role in deletion discussions than non-admins. You have still yet to answer where it says in policy or guidelines that you are permitted to edit a closed discussion; this is not the role of an ordinary user nor the role of a voter. ~riley (talk) 20:36, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
Comply with COM:Administrators please. You asked me a question about your action and I correctly and fully answered it.
If Marcus Cyron can ask questions after a DR close, as is demonstrated by the fact that you have left their question in place and given a response, then that same privilege to ask and respond to questions in that same place must apply to me.
If you wish to continue arguing that Marcus Cyron has a special privilege to ask questions after a DR closure, but if I do the same thing you will continue to revert my comment because "admin comment section", then we need to have a proposal to gain a community consensus to explicitly change the DR policy and COM:Administrators so that all administrators treat each other differently to non-sysops. At the same time, we will have to gain a consensus to stop non-admins closing DRs (we could not have non-sysops creating an "admin comment section", that makes zero sense). This way it is not just about you proving a point to stop me providing a perfectly good reference to Marcus Cyron in a neutral way.
Thanks -- (talk) 20:53, 15 February 2020 (UTC)
I will not continue to respond if you continue to pose questions/statements about my actions when you won't respond to my own questions. Why do you think it is acceptable to remove a discussion closure? Why do you think it is acceptable to edit a closed discussion? Marcus as a patrolling admin identified a file that looked like it was missed. He directly inquired in the closing comments to myself as the closing admin and I responded. Why you seeing the need to answer a question directed at the closing admin, I do not understand. I have moved Marcus' comment and my answer to the talk page per your concern of special privileges. ~riley (talk) 21:06, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

You have asked three questions, one without a question mark. In light of your ultimatum, here are my answers:

Why do you think it is acceptable to remove a discussion closure?
I do not. I left a note on your talk page, as I have linked to twice before, to alert you to the edit conflict.
Why do you think it is acceptable to edit a closed discussion?
I do not. MC could and should have asked questions on your talk page as the most obvious place to go, indeed that's precisely what I did above. My clarification in the same place as MC edited was simply because they wrote there post-closure. DR policy does not actually spell this out, just because the template has some wording about it, does not eliminate this practice. Personally, I don't see some flexibility as an issue so long as it's not disruptive, especially if that means links to related UNDELs, other DRs etc. that may be useful for later readers.
He directly inquired in the closing comments to myself as the closing admin and I responded. Why you seeing the need to answer a question directed at the closing admin, I do not understand.
I gave a neutral link, absolutely no comment text, as I knew the answer. You closed the DR but that does not mean you will be watching it or would respond to questions like theirs, there's no requirement on you as the DR closer to do so.

-- (talk) 21:27, 15 February 2020 (UTC)

  • Thank you for responding. I know you are an experienced user, but have you read en:Help:Edit_conflict#Resolving_an_edit_conflict (Common's help page redirects to enwiki)? As an experienced user and bot operator (someone who understands the technical aspects of MediaWiki, you should understand how to resolve an edit conflict - it is not acceptable to overwrite another user's edit, especially in a discussion.
  • You closed the DR but that does not mean you will be watching it or would respond to questions like theirs, there's no requirement on you as the DR closer to do so. There is no assumption I watch over it, however, I was directly notified through a ping to respond to his question - there is no reason to assume I would not respond. ~riley (talk)

Fæ, your behaviour in this case is unbeleavable. You actually lose my trust with every edit. As Admin on a Wikimedia Project you have responsibility for a lot of things. One of those is to take care of minors (especially with such images, who also did not match with american law, what's always is one of those we have to respect due to the servers are standing there). On of those is to protect Commons of self promotional content. Both seems not to fit your creterea. This is a problem. But it's your problem, you don't fit with your opinion not into our rules and values. So stop annoy ~riley, he made everything right. You are the one on the false line! -- Marcus Cyron (talk) 03:30, 16 February 2020 (UTC)

Bureaucrat

Hi riley, As I told you on Meta[1] one month ago, I believe you will make a good candidate for bureaucratship. As Green Giant told here, Commons needs more bureaucrats now. Are you willing to serve as a 'crat here? If so, do you want me to nominate you? 4nn1l2 (talk) 18:13, 8 April 2020 (UTC)

@4nn1l2: While I think your proposal is of greater importance now than one month ago, it still carries significant weight requiring substantial consideration. Here are some things that immediately come to mind:
  • The bureaucrat team has put themselves in a tight situation based on the reason incidents. Prior to this, they were not looking to grow this team but due to the lack of response or unwillingness to respond, they need to be willing to bring on additional 'crats. I do not feel they are willing to do this, however, it is a discussion that needs to be opened up.
  • I am willing to serve in whatever role the community needs. I think its important to recognize that I may not be the person for that role. I should probably note though that my interests primarily are in checkuser and oversight roles due to the technical elements. Green Giant has encouraged more people to stand as candidates for all three roles, and I think a technical role would be most fitting.
I appreciate and value your offer to nominate me for candidacy. ~riley (talk) 18:50, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
This is highly encouraging - please ask as many suitable people as you can to become candidates. I have to admit I’ve been distracted over the last couple of years and not looked for candidates. Riley, if you’re happier trying for CU or OS, please go for it. Unless there is some deep dark secret I’ve not heard of, I think you’ll be an excellent candidate.
@4nn1l2: what about you? Would you consider standing for one of these permissions?
Just to be fair to the bureaucrats, we cannot expect them to be available all the time and I don’t think they’ve deliberately avoided getting involved. My concern is that in such a crucial wiki, we simply don’t have enough people to do the necessary tasks. I know some people would prefer we got rid of things like CU and OS but without these tools we would be overrun by vandals and sockpuppetry. -Green Giant (talk) 22:25, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
@Green Giant: Thanks for the offer. Unlike Riley, I am not interested in the slightest in CU/OS roles. I would like to become a 'crat some day, but that is not today, maybe one or two years later. 4nn1l2 (talk) 23:32, 8 April 2020 (UTC)
As someone active on a project with no functionaries, yes, it is very important to have them locally. GMGtalk 16:20, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
  • I just want to say I would support riley if he will run for CU or OS. We definitely need more new CUs and OSes, and he surely fits either role. For crat though, well I'm not yet fully sure, but he has shown interest in bot requests, so he could help Krd there. I don't know though if it's okay to run for two roles at the same time. pandakekok9 02:38, 10 April 2020 (UTC)

Hi riley, could you consider downgrading the protection level of that template to TE? It's counterpart, {{Vote delete}} is currently TE, same with {{Vote speedy}}. I think it would make sense to have the protection settings match for all those templates used in deletion requests (and maybe CfDs). Thanks, pandakekok9 09:27, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

That was quick. Thanks! :) pandakekok9 09:30, 12 April 2020 (UTC)

Problematic tagging

Riley, I keep getting notified that I need to approve tags for the following image File:House of the Prince of Naples Pompeii Plate 160 Exedra Venus MH.jpg. But when I click on the message it shows me no tags pending approval. I added metadata when I uploaded it anyway. I had photographed the image in a book with my iPhone and I noticed an error message about the Location coordinates so I deleted them but it is still bugging me to approve tags. Could you check and see what the real problem is? Thanks! Mharrsch (talk) 20:38, 14 April 2020 (UTC)

  • @Mharrsch: Hey Mary; this whole "tag" thing was rolled out by the development team and us admins, and the rest of the community, have been given very little information on the system. It is probably experiencing bugs. The most important thing to recognize is that tags are optional, they are non-essential and your file isn't at risk of deletion or anything. I would ignore the notifications for now as annoying as they may be - it should go away or start to work properly. I checked the file but it's nothing I can see or fix on my side. ~riley (talk) 22:07, 14 April 2020 (UTC)
Thanks, Riley. It's just an irritation as it keeps popping up as a new message. I wish they had left tags more open ended like they are in Flickr. Having to pick tags from a list of existing tags is time consuming and quite restrictive. I'm used to tagging on Flickr and can easily apply multiple tags there but with Wikipedia's implementation it's like trying to work with a straight jacket. If you don't mind I have one more question. These past two months I have been working on translating a German excavation report about the House of the Prince of Naples in Pompeii. I requested permission from the original copyright holder, Professor Volker Michael Strocka and received his permission via email. One of the executive directors of Italian Wikipedia has asked if I could upload my translation to WikiSource in epub format. Is the permission email I received from Professor Stroka in which I explained that I wished to make the now out-of-print text freely available on the internet enough documentation? I also have an email from the German Archaeological Institute (the original publisher) saying they have no copyright claim and only the editor (Professor Strocka) now holds any copyright (the work was published in 1984). Watchlist notice

Hi, it would be great if you consider making this watchlist notice visible to all. After all, all users would be affected here, since it's about blocking. Thanks, pandakekok9 03:21, 20 April 2020 (UTC)

@Pandakekok9: Sorry, late reply - things are picking up here. I think its a conflict of interest for me to do that as a proposer. We don't have precedence for doing it for non-RfCs hence it being a bit bold for me to do it and makes it more controversial if I am the proposer. I recommend you make an edit request for another to do. ~riley (talk) 10:36, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
I see. The proposal is getting some attention it seems from non-admins, so I guess there's no need to make the notice visible to all. Stay safe there by the way. pandakekok9 10:39, 21 April 2020 (UTC)
Sorry for any bureaucracy/red tape - recent events make it quite clear that we should tread carefully with our actions. Thanks for the kind ntoe. ~riley (talk) 10:41, 21 April 2020 (UTC)

Delete

hi I want all my uploads to be deleted. can you help me Perencal (talk) 13:40, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

(talk page stalker) Perencal, per the notice on their use page, Riley is currently away from their computer.
As your images are older than a week, you would need a good reason for them to be deleted, as CC licenses are irrevocable. If you have a good reason, you can open a deletion request by following the instructions at Commons:Deletion requests/Mass deletion request.

Hi Riley, I'm wondering about this project. Apparently it never really gained track and seems to be quite dead now. This is unfortunate since we could need some more input at this discussion. De728631 (talk) 23:12, 24 April 2020 (UTC)

Pixabay

Hi, ~riley,

I have downloaded 2 images off of pixabay (https://pixabay.com/) File:Interior of Cardiff Castle - Mosaic-3144585.jpg and File:Sphere-304160 640.png. Can you possibly check that I have done everything correct, as these are the first that I have downloaded off the site. I normally just download off of Flickr, geograph.org.uk or my own images. @~riley: I know I did alot of mistakes, I accept all of it. And I know I should have been blocked till now. I feel obliged towards the community that I have given chances to correct myself. I'm not saying this because I want rights (Autopatrol or File mover). I know I don't qualify, and my request will be declined soon. I pinged to thanks you for motivating and cheering me up. OTRS but no license

Hi! I noticed some files like File:ASC Leiden - van Achterberg Collection - 1 - 036 - Angèle, propriétaire de la Cafétéria Chez Angèle. Menu. I can look too but if you know the permission it would be easier. --MGA73 (talk) 16:25, 12 June 2020 (UTC)

Commons:Requests for rights

Hello @~riley: I got pinged that you approve my request at Commons:Rfr. But I see that my request is still open.
