Hello, Liuxinyu970226!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Pay attention to copyright
File:Aqqac.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. Reminder: Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2016 is open![edit]

You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2016 Picture of the Year contest.

Dear Liuxinyu970226,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2016 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eleventh edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2016) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 2 will end on 20 April 2017, 23:59:59 UTC.

Copyright tags heading[edit]

Hi, I saw you changed the translation in Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Hong Kong/zh of the section name "Copyright tags" from

版权标签

to the traditional form

著作權標籤

That creates a problem with Commons:Copyright tags/Country-specific tags/zh (Commons:著作权标签/具体国家), which transcludes the contents of sections called ==版权标签==. It works for China, Taiwan and other countries where the translation uses the simplified form, but for Hong Kong it just renders 无资料.

The translation extension says for 中文(繁體)"Translation to Traditional Chinese is disabled: Translate in zh please", but obviously it does not prevent a translator from entering the traditional characters. I suppose the reasoning is that far more people recognize the simplified forms than the traditional. Except, of course, in Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Would it be a problem if I returned the title in Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Hong Kong/zh to 版权标签 ? Aymatth2 (talk) 12:01, 27 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I can see a fairly simple way to use lang=zh-hant for Hong Kong and Taiwan in lists that use lang=zh for all other countries. Would that be the right thing to do? If so, and if you could provide zh-hant translations of "Currency", "Freedom of panorama", "Stamps" and "Threshold of originality", I can implement it. Thanks, Aymatth2 (talk) 11:23, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Aymatth2: A better workground: use -{zh-hans:Mainland China translation;zh-hk:Hong Kong translation;zh-tw:Taiwan translation}-. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 11:33, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I will leave zh for simplified, but add zh-hk and zh-tw. It seems a bit awkward, because the transcluded zh lists will show two countries in the traditional character sets, but I suppose it sort of works. Aymatth2 (talk) 11:59, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I have made the change, which seems to work. Now we just need someone to translate 17,900 units into Chinese! Aymatth2 (talk) 12:55, 28 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Traditional PD-Art[edit]

You may have an opinion on this. I just moved Commons:如何使用PD-Art模板 to Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag/zh-hant, then converted it to the translate extension using the migration tool, which seems to have worked fine. But when I tried to restore the original title, I got the message "Translation to Traditional Chinese is disabled: Translate in zh please." The page cannot be edited, so it seems to be frozen forever.

One way around it would be to start a new translation into lang=zh, and just copy-paste (with attribution) from the zh-hant version. That seems a bit odd, and rules out a simplified Chinese translation. I don't know what to do... Aymatth2 (talk) 19:29, 9 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks![edit]

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Regarding your deletion requests of templates created by me[edit]

Hi Liuxinyu970226, First of all, I laud you for opening deletion requests for several templates created by me. Your concern about the integrity of the wiki shows that you are a good citizen, and I am glad that Commons has people like you to ensure that rules are followed. However, I have found some of your posts to be somewhat brash and threatening. I strongly believe that we wiki citizens should always be polite to each other, but if I feel that I am not being treated with proper respect, then I will not hesitate to treat others in a similar manner. As I currently believe your arguments to be baseless, I will use every tool available to mankind to shoot down your arguments, and I will attack your position to the fullest extent of the law. And please remember that since you have decided not to be affable to me, I will not stay mellow with you. With this having been said, I wish you good luck on these deletion requests! —Percival Kestreltail (talk) 02:58, 24 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Kestreltail: Just let you know that many "-nd" templated that you were created, are already deleted, e.g. Commons:Deletion_requests/Template:Cc-by-nc-nd-3.0-layout, please read foundation:Terms of Use again and again before your next commenting-back. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:07, 24 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@Liuxinyu970226: I have read the Terms of Use as well as the Licensing policy, but I did not intend for us to discuss the details of the deletion requests here. I just wanted to let you know how I plan to receive your actions. —Percival Kestreltail (talk) 03:11, 24 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Berne Convention date corrections[edit]

I see you are working through COM:CRT articles correcting information on accession to the Berne convention. This is good. Sometimes WIPO is not consistent. E.g. for the Cook Islands [1] shows the date as August 2, 2017 and [2] shows the date as August 3, 2017. I suggest that it would be best to add a citation to the source with the correct date, rather than change the date but leave the citation to the source with the incorrect date, which is confusing.

To make life easier for translators, the citation details can be hidden using <tvar|ref1> ... </>. Thus:

On pages in languages other than English the translator will just see $ref1 in place of the citation details. Good work! Aymatth2 (talk) 12:46, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thx. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 12:47, 25 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Expanded Chinese FOP: very welcoming indeed[edit]

Hello Liuxinyu970226! Seeing the news about the new copyright law that removes restriction on images of interior works of art in China, indeed that's a very welcoming development. But alas textual works are still not covered by this! But anyway, I hope that one by one, Commons-applicable FOP provisions will be applied in every Asian country soon. Some progress here in the Philippines, but I don't know about other Asian countries (hope that Commons-applicable FOP will be applied soon in Indonesia, South Korea, and Nepal). JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 08:45, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Humm, @JWilz12345: as I've said, it's better to discuss (and eventually, get consensus) on the related matters at Commons:Village_pump#Copyright_law_change_in_Mainland_China? --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 08:47, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, I'm poor in Chinese language (despite that fact that I have Chinese roots). I will leave the matter on other editors. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 08:50, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Please check this[edit]

Hello. If you have time pls. check the wording of this template: PD-Philippines-artistic work and suggest to me what needs to be fixed. I originally created this template as "PD-Philippines-architecture" (on similar pattern as that of PD-US-architecture), but eventually I thought of a template that will be useful not only to Philippine buildings in public domain (as indicated at the Commons-accepted exceptions under COM:CRT/Philippines#Freedom of panorama), but also for Philippine sculptures that are also in public domain. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 02:17, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@JWilz12345: I suggest to ask this problem at COM:VPC. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:55, 21 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

Hello! I get notice of your ping. BTW, I don't how to explain as I am a newcomer to Wikimedia Commons. Could you please advise me any suggestion about the norms of this project? Haoreima (talk) 04:56, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Haoreima: First of all, it's better to leave your comments on which the page you got a ping, not someone's user talk page that pinged you, this can only make a good discussion broken, and a fake "no response" can be given to many users who are focusing the topic. Second, I suggest to send messages like "The images of the snakes are my own work, which after I have drawn done some better art effects, and then printed in the form of a book page, to make it look smooth." to COM:OTRS rather than here (please, use e-mail services, not on its talk page). Third, "And for the Emoinu and Imoinu, they are the public property, paintings of deities which public are given authorized to use in any form." I boldly marked the object as PD-old-100, although this template isn't applied to the United States, you freely licensed your images taken as CC so that may work in US. Fourth, "And for Lailik Leima, it's a drawing I did, after which I put some art effect and then scanned through scanner." if so, then you need to read Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag, and use PD-scan according to that rule. Fifth, about your messages leaved at File talk:Numit Kappa.jpg, IMHO it might be PD-Art, but you should provide evidences per Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag, especially who is the author of that, and when they were died, without these two informations, the deletion is right as it's unlikely that people believe that your files are "more than 100 years old". Finally, please can you tell me why you think File:Inscription at the Konthoujam Tampha Lairembi Sacred Site.jpg should also be kept? Per COM:FOP India, 2D artworks are usually not suitable for uploading here unless for several reasons they're in public domain. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 23:35, 27 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mean I should put the template PD-old-100 in the Imoinu & Emoinu freely? Will that close the deletion nomination? Haoreima (talk) 12:31, 9 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

We need your feedback![edit]

Hello. Apologies if this message is not in your native language: please feel free to respond in the language of your choice. Thank you!

I am writing to you because we are looking for feedback for a new Wikimedia Foundation project, Structured Data Across Wikimedia (SDAW). SDAW is a grant-funded programme that will explore ways to structure content on wikitext pages in a way that will be machine-recognizable and -relatable, in order to make reading, editing, and searching easier and more accessible across projects and on the Internet. We are now focusing on designing and building image suggestion features for experienced users.

We have some questions to ask you about your experience with uploading images here on Wikimedia Commons and then adding them to Wikipedia. You can answer these questions on a specific feedback page on Mediawiki, where we will gather feedback. As I said, these questions are in English, but your answers do not need to be in English! You can also answer in your own language, if you feel more comfortable.

Once the collecting of feedback will be over, we will sum it up and share with you a summary, along with updated mocks that will incorporate your inputs.

Also, if you want to keep in touch with us or you want to know more about the project, you can subscribe to our newsletter.

Hope to hear from you soon! -- Sannita (WMF) (talk to me!) 09:57, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Please use correct tags[edit]

Hi, as a template editor you should take special care when you edit protected files and templates. Adding "|other fields=" as you did in e.g. that file creates just another deprecated entry in the maintenance category Created with Inkscape-default, which has to be corrected by others.
Please do not do that !
The recommended way to insert a correct transclusion of Template:Image generation is to use the script support.
It needs an entry in your User:Liuxinyu970226/common.js which you can copy from another user. If there are any questions, ask me or others. -- sarang사랑 05:38, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for notification, I insterted those codes, the reason I didn't use it before is a bit related to 2017 wikitext editor, which that script isn't working under 2017 editor. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 13:08, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I tried to edit the /zh version because of the new parameter t= but it might be better when you check it. I didn't do for zh-hans and zh-hant because I do not know about Chinese languages - but when you want to do it: thanx. -- sarang사랑 13:35, 8 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Adding category before creating it[edit]

Hi! I think it’s more logical and leads to less misunderstandings and unnecessary reverts if you create the category before you add pages to it, and not hours after. Do you have a reason to do this the other way round? Even if you have, please at least indicate in the edit summary that you’re about to create the category so that others can be more patient. (You can click the (++) link and then Save to go to the edit form instead of immediately saving the category change.) —Tacsipacsi (talk) 16:54, 29 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

File:HarmonyOS Home Preview.jpg[edit]

it is not possible to say that you cannot take screenshots in harmonyOS when there are already files in Wikipedia that nobody has deleted and with information or posts as their own work.

Look up HarmonyOS on the Chinese Wikipedia, you will see the same image that I have uploaded, even with more information.

In the English Wikipedia of HarmonyOS

The problem I think has to do with the description, but as I said, everything is usable and free to use.

More information I have also replied to someone: ..but really as I said, it is a theme design, and the theme is in .hwt format, I can send you the download link, they are just previews of the themes, not the theme. It's a style anyone can use, That's why I asked because it's very complicated, even so, he asked me if the problem could be that I put the description wrong or selected something wrong Here is an example download link for a theme: https://www.huaweicentral.com/download-huawei-harmonyos-theme-link/

There are pages dedicated to themes and that have that style, like emuitheme . Com

Also in the Chinese HarmonyOS Wikipedia they have the same image, with more things. It is not possible that they do not allow it here, there are also iOS and Android. I'm not getting it. Ezequiel 449 (talk) 03:40, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

In this case, do you have evidences Huawei has free-licensed their UI under a Commons-acceptable license ((A/L)GPL? Apache? BSD? WTFPL? Or if they have their own license, start discussing it via COM:VPC)? If not, then such screenshots should be uploaded locally, according to their non-free image usage policies, in your case, use zhwiki upload form. Also for huawei central, according to their Copyright Policy:

What am I not permitted to do with HC Newsroom content?

By way of example only, this means that you cannot: Create derivative works from our content, unless you are creating summaries as described above.
This means that contents from HC website are not Commons-acceptable. Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 03:47, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

that's why I asked, the form of wikiepdia is somewhat complex, but if I have evidence, anyone can modify them, because they are only previews for all the topics that Huawei creates or the ones that the user wants, That's why I doubted, everything seems to indicate that it is for free use. That is the only evidence, do you think I have to modify the description or change something? Ezequiel 449 (talk) 05:26, 22 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Template:FoP-Myanmar has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this template, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
