Thanks for uploading Image:Russell_Peters_-_Toronto_-_July_2007.JPG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multilicense GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. Thanks for uploading File:Mariana Atencio - 2016.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Mariana Atencio - 2016.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

An unfree Flickr license has been found on File:Giorgio Mammoliti - 2013.jpg

Deutsch  English  español  فارسی  français  hrvatski  italiano  日本語  മലയാളം  Nederlands  sicilianu  Tiếng Việt  +/−

A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons from Flickr, File:Giorgio Mammoliti - 2013.jpg, has been reviewed by an administrator or reviewer and found available on Flickr under the license Noncommercial (NC), No derivative works (ND), or All Rights Reserved (Copyright), which isn't compatible with Wikimedia Commons, per the licensing policy. Unless the Flickr user changes the license to one that Wikimedia Commons accepts, the file will be speedily deleted. Commons:Flickr files/Appeal for license change has information about sending the Flickr user an appeal asking for the license to be changed. Only Flickr images tagged as BY (CC BY), BY SA (CC BY-SA), CC0 (CC0) and PDM (PDM) are allowed on Wikimedia Commons. Once the license on Flickr is changed, you may replace the {{Unfree Flickr file}} tag with {{Flickrreview}} so that an administrator or reviewer can review the image again.

Elisfkc (talk) 18:09, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

The provided email is not enough for Commons, and the license on the Flickr file has not changed. Please see OTRS for the correct procedures on how to prove a license via email. Elisfkc (talk) 18:11, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
File:Billie Flynn - Hamshire - England - July 2014.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Flickr2Commons

I have just come across a few images you have recently uploaded from Flickr. I would appreciate it if in the future, you used the Flickr2Commons tool. This tool allows images to be moved to Commons from Flickr without having to download the images to your own computer. It also brings in the largest resolution of the image, as well making sure to list the correct license and url, making it easy for the automated Flickr Review system. Also, it is fairly easy to categorize images with this tool. Elisfkc (talk) 18:15, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Hello Sikander/Archive 1, the following content you uploaded violates one or more of our policies and therefore has been or will soon be deleted:

File:Hedi007.png

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Again, please read through Commons:Licensing, which is quite crucial, to understanding how Wikimedia Commons works. Thanks for your contribution, and please do leave me a message if you have further questions.

Yours sincerely, Hedwig in Washington (mail?) 01:27, 15 October 2017 (UTC)

@Hedwig in Washington: , I had cropped this file from an existing file on Commons. It appears the original file had licensing issues and now both have been deleted, as they should. Regards, @sikander (talk) 12:05, 16 October 2017 (UTC)

Descriptions

Hi! Thanks for adding the description to the Head of Sphinx and changing the name. In case you'll be willing to add more descriptions, feel free to use the mass description tool that makes everything in this regard much easier. It was developed a fortnight ago, it is still in the testing phase but it has some potential ;-) Aktron (talk) 09:46, 27 December 2017 (UTC)

@Aktron: Thanks, that's an interesting tool and it definitely has potential. I think it needs to display more data from the source file to make it easier to add a description and figure out what the image is of. I'll check if it's open source and if I can contribute there. Cheers! @sikander (talk) 13:48, 27 December 2017 (UTC)
Sure. The problem as of now is that it can anylze only first 500 images from a category. But more data - absolutely yes! The source is available here: [1] Aktron (talk) 09:06, 28 December 2017 (UTC)

Hello again. I appreciate your efforts to prove the public domain status of the portrait. However, the screenshot you used as one of proofs (File:City of Toronto Archives - June Rowlands Portrait Photo Information.png) came from the copyrighted website; the bottom of the https://toronta.ca website says "© City of Toronto 1998 - 2017". May you please speedydelete it? Thanks.

By the way, I changed the info to the exact citation that holds a record of the portrait on your behalf. George Ho (talk) 07:02, 30 December 2017 (UTC)

@AntonierCH: No problem at all. It was my mistake in adding the OTRS tags without proper auth and I learned later on that I should not do so. Cheers! // @sikander (talk) 21:41, 3 January 2018 (UTC)

Notification about possible deletion

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Thanks for uploading File:Carsten Linnemann 2013.jpg.

Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded ([[:File:Carsten Linnemann 2013.jpg]]) and the above demanded information in your request.

Radical crop

Dear user Sikander, please read COM:CROP. Cutting small fragment from the picture not always can be justified, even for the illustrative purposes. Photograph, even the occasional one, always is kind of artwork with its own composition and "story". You cut from the bigger picture a "portrait" of Arif Virani with eyes down, which is absolutely not good for an "avatar" picture. Please don't do that. All the best, Mykola Swarnyk (talk) 05:15, 9 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi Mykola Swarnyk, I think you're referring to my crop of Virani from your source photo uploaded in 2015. At the time of the crop this was the only photo of Virani available on Commons and I completely agree with you that this is not an ideal image, but I figured it is better than no image at all. Please note that per COM:CROP I did not overwrite your photo and added this one as a separate and new upload. Also, I see that you have uploaded more images of Virani and that's great. The new portrait image is much, much better. Thank you. // sikander { talk } 16:02, 9 December 2018 (UTC)

Thank you for your message, and thank you for taking care of copyvios on Commons, we need help on that point! Payette's picture is not a copyvio, you have my word on this.

Thanks for uploading File:Imran Khan at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in 2019 (portrait cropped).jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Hi Magog the Ogre, the footer for kremlin.ru says "All content on this site is licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International" and these photos are from this page. There are 19,154 photos from kremlin.ru on Commons using {{kremlin.ru}} as the license. Am I missing something? // sikander { talk } 🦖 23:41, 16 June 2019 (UTC)
Kremlin.ru is a source tag only because the Kremlin changed its license. Please add the cc-by-4.0 tag to those images as well so that they have a license tag as well. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:08, 17 June 2019 (UTC)

Email

Hi Sikander. I believe you recently sent me an email. Unfortunately, I cannot currently access that account and was soon going to update my Wikimedia accounts with a new email address. In the meantime, you can leave a message on my talk page.

I can see only the first line (and a bit of the next one) of your email, which shows up on my Commons alerts. I generally prefer discussions in the open on Wikimedia projects (ie - user talk pages), but if you'd prefer to keep the details private, I'll let you know when I've set up the new email address. Canada photographs

Hi, thank you for categorizing and organizing photo uploads by location. Wondering what your process is. Are you creating the yyyy-mm-dd category manually or do you have a script that takes care of it?

I can start categorizing my uploads myself but thought the process of creating a new category for a few images only might not be worth the time/effort: 20190931 has 2 photos, 20190906 has 4, 20190910 has 3 (and all are my uploads).

// sikander { talk } 🦖 12:10, 12 September 2019 (UTC)

Hi Sikander, I use the template Date= Taken on|2019-09-12|location=Canada, with braces ({{) at either end, and alter the date accordingly and then create the Day/date/country category using, Canada photographs taken on navbox|2019|09|12, with braces ({{) at either end, and once again altering the date accordingly. Hope this is of Help. Kolforn (talk) 13:12, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
@Kolforn: Ah OK, so it is a 2 step process. I wondered if the {{Taken on|2019-09-12|location=Canada}} automatically created the category (which would've been nice) // sikander { talk } 🦖 13:38, 12 September 2019 (UTC)
@sikander: Yes that template creates the Canada day/date but it will be in red until you include it in photographs taken on day/date taken category using {{Canada photographs taken on navbox|2019|09|10}}

Wiki Loves Monuments France 2019

Bonjour,
