Help needed on distorted preview

Hello Magog the Ogre,

why is the preview of the PDF Die_kaiserlichen_Privilegien_der_Universit%C3%A4t_Marburg_-_Eine_academische_Rede.pdf distorted the way it is. The original upload is o.k. The File is part of a project on Wikisource. Help and explanation would be appreciated.--Jürgen Nemitz (HSP) (talk) 19:54, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

@Jürgen Nemitz (HSP): can you pose your question at COM:VP/T? Looks like a Mediawiki bug that might need to get reported. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 20:48, 24 January 2021 (UTC)
I will do so. Thank you.--Jürgen Nemitz (HSP) (talk) 21:58, 24 January 2021 (UTC)

Please participate in the Universal Code of Conduct consultation on Wikimedia Commons!

Dear Magog the Ogre

Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.

After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a policy (available in many languages) that has been ratified by the Board of Trustees. We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. As a member of the functionary team of Wikimedia Commons, your opinion on enforcement is of great value. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so. There are a few enforcement questions so you can easily outline your answers based on them. Please do not hesitate to bring any more questions/challenges you think are not yet discussed.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. You can also share your thoughts by replying to this message (Please ping me so I get notified), posting your message on my talk page. I am aware that some thoughts cannot be expressed publicly, so you can always share your opinion by emailing me as well.

As a valued member of the Commons community, please share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences that relate to UCoC. Let us know what needs to be improved so we can build a more friendly and cooperative space to increase editor engagement and retention of new users.

Wikimedia projects are governed by you. So, it is you who needs to step up to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant working environment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! Wikitanvir (WMF) (talk) 10:18, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Where can I say that I think the image must not be deleted ?

Hello. First I'm french and I hope you will understand what I want to say. I think that the files in Commons:Deletion requests/Files found with "Film Star Who's Who must stay on Commons because they were taken in 1938 and the author is unknown. So they are in Public domain as it is stated in this  : A photograph, which was made available to the public (e.g. by publication or display at an exhibition) more than 70 years ago (before 1 January 1951) and the author is unknown. I don't know where I can write my opposition to the delation. Can you help me ? Yours sincerely, --Olivier Tanguy (talk) 21:30, 10 February 2021 (UTC)

@Olivier Tanguy: there is a link in the message I left on your talk page where you can add your opposition. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:09, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Please take a short survey regarding UCoC

Hello Magog the Ogre,

I would like to inform you that we now have a survey in place to take part in the UCoC consultation. It is not a long one and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. You can take the survey even if you have already participated in the on-wiki consultation. It has a different set of questions and allows you to participate anonymously and privately.

As a member of the Commons functionaries, your opinion is especially essential. Please click here to participate in the survey.

You are still welcome to participate in the on-wiki discussions. If you prefer you can have your say by sending me an email. You can also drop me an email if you want to have a one-to-one chat.

Thank you for your participation! Wikitanvir (WMF) 13:54, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

M&T Bank and Huntington National Bank branch map

Not only would I love you to create a new M&T Bank and Huntington National Bank branch map, I'd also love a map of all the branches of both those banks in one! When looking for a home to buy or rent, I'll stay in that multi-jurisdiction area with all those branches. I'd prefer the maps be in 16:9 aspect ratio so they would fit on my PC's screen very well — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thomas J. Seymour (talk • contribs) 19:41, 3 February 2021 (UTC)

locator.mtb.com will help with M&T. Thomas J. Seymour (talk) 18:08, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

I’m also fine with a 1:1 or 3:4 aspect ratio so I can use Zazzle to fit the map of M&T bank branches on custom stuff. Thomas J. Seymour (talk) 18:10, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

Or a 4:3 or 9:5 aspect ratio. Thomas J. Seymour (talk) 18:12, 4 February 2021 (UTC)

I will get to this in a bit. Might take me a few days. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:18, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
Thanks. Take a whole month or two based on your schedule. Thomas J. Seymour (talk) 21:49, 5 February 2021 (UTC)
@Magog the Ogre:, I've completed the [M&T Bank footprint] (sorry, I don't know how to intralink it as ":commons:File:"). Huntington Bank will take another day, or two. The data is stubborn to extract.
btw, as you can see, I simply made a new filename, rather than upload a new image to either "File:M&T footprint 2016.png" or "File:M&T footprint 2011-07.png", so future uploads won't be tethered to a date-specific filename - as I've learned from my own experience. (Previously, I had a lack of foresight on my part with image file naming - something that may need to be fixed in the future.)
I've also been meaning to ask; any chance you'll add Canada to your branchmapper tool?
@Thomas J. Seymour: as to your request of these two banks' maps being overlaid, I'll do that in a separate image that I'll share with you directly.
@Thomas J. Seymour:, check your email. I've made the map you requested, and loaded it off-side. Details are in the e-mail.
@Magog the Ogre:, the aforementioned maps are completed and live.        —  BoringJim (talk) 23:51, 15 February 2021 (UTC)

No source tag

Hi Magog, in the File:ECWHL State Map.svg you have tagged the file as no source. I want to ask you that why have you done this? In that file the author has clearly said that the file is his own work. --Junior Jumper (formerly ) 14:07, 3 March 2021 (UTC)

Please tell--Junior Jumper (formerly ) 04:58, 4 March 2021 (UTC)

@Junior Jumper: if you used a template, you are not the copyright holder of that map. Or did you create the map from bottom up with borders, shading, etc.? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 01:04, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
@Magog the Ogre: I have only transferred the file from en.wiki. The original creator is User:Kkr11222. I think the file is taken from blank map of US.--Junior Jumper (formerly ) 02:41, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
@Junior Jumper: if you don't have the original source, then why are you removing the no source tag? Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 10:44, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
@Magog the Ogre: I am saying that the file is the own work of author at en.wiki. The design is taken from blank political map of US. There are many files on Commons which follow the same procedure. I think we should take this matter to community portal.--Junior Jumper (formerly ) 15:10, 5 March 2021 (UTC)
I'm happy to discuss this in a DR. But it doesn't matter if there is other policy-breaking content. If we don't attribute the other properly, we could be out of compliance. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 05:19, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Thank you

Hello,

Thank you for letting me know I was doing something wrong. I'm contacting every author now and getting them to send the permission template now.

For future reference, how should I establish permission when contacting someone and uploading their work? Should I get them to fill and email that template as soon as possible?

Nexus000 (talk) 23:01, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

@Nexus000: I would, yes. The copyright holder (usually the photographer) must explicitly agree using very specific language for legal reasons. We have a template here: Commons:Email templates. If you'd like information on how to do this for non-email communications (e.g., Facebook), you could start by asking at our noticeboard: COM:OTRSN. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:40, 15 March 2021 (UTC)

(Posting here because the original discussion has been closed and shouldn't be modified).

Can't remember the exact details of what happened, but the first time I tried to upload that image it complained I didn't have the required permission to use a particular tag. It succeeded when I resubmitted it.

Looking at the difference between my submitted version and the original, it might have been {{Flickr-no known copyright restrictions}} that set it off, and was automatically removed (because I definitely didn't remove it personally).

At any rate, what I did originally *was* little more than a modified cut-and-paste of the original description and permissions. If those were legitimate there, it shouldn't have been an issue to reuse them? Ubcule (talk) 16:00, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

@Ubcule: {{Flickr-no known copyright restrictions}} is the license and it is required. Please make sure you include the license in the upload phase. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 22:44, 26 March 2021 (UTC)

Moving old history to Commons

Hi!

When we use oldver.php we get at copy of old versions but they are uploaded using today as date and the upload name is your bot. When we use FilImporter we get a copy with the old dates and the original uploaders name.

Can you think of any way to make oldver import the original version without having to make too much work? And what about importing changes made on the file page?

To make this work you probably have to delete the file on Commons, import the xx.wiki versions, delete the xx.wiki versions and restore all of it again. So it should probably only be an option for admins at least to begin with.

I'm currently working on files from ja.wiki and there are 12k files that have a "NowCommons" and many of them are transferred badly. And it takes a lot of time to fix manually. Especially because ja.wiki policy (that is probably correct if you have to be very strict on GFDL requirements) does not allow to delete the local version unless GFDL and author is mentioned on the first revision on Commons. So if someone uploaded a copy as own work and used a wrong license template then it is not enough just to change the information on Commons. I have to import the file from ja.wiki to make the first version correct.

I do not think you have to worry about converting templates etc. to whatever is used on Commons. That is only needed for files that are not allready on Commons. You only have to make sure that the version on Commons is the latest. So revert to that if the version on xx.wiki is newer. --MGA73 (talk) 09:48, 27 March 2021 (UTC)

@MGA73: what you're proposing is nothing like what my bot currently does. I would recommend you write a new bot or request one. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 23:11, 28 March 2021 (UTC)

E pur si muove

Why do you believe this painting to be by Eugene van Maldeghem? It had been attributed to Bartolomé Esteban Murillo until last year, when this attribution was cast into doubt, and the work was discovered to be almost identical to this one, which is by van Maldeghem. Obviously either one of these is a copy of the other, or both are copies of a yet to be discovered third work, but this article by Mario Livio, who discovered the similarity of the works, indicates that the author of the former remains as yet unknown.
Freda Nurk (talk) 15:43, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

An IP (possibly you?) added this information here. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 12:02, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes, that was me. But that link, under the "other versions" heading of the artwork template, is to the second of the two paintings, which was by Eugene van Maldeghem. According to the documentation of the artwork template, the "other versions" section is for "Links to files with very similar content or derivative files", and I was presuming that it was not necessary for the "very similar content" in such linked files to be necessarily by the same author as that of the file on whose page the link has been placed. If that presumption isn't correct, then the link should be deleted (as should be the corresponding one I inserted in the "other versions" section of the artwork template for the version which is indisputably by van Maldeghem).
Freda Nurk (talk) 13:37, 10 April 2021 (UTC)
Alright, you got me; I did a quick investigation while you did a thorough one. I corrected it because uploaders are usually lazy and type "unknown" as a proxy for "can't be arsed to enter the author." In this case it really is unknown. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 18:16, 10 April 2021 (UTC)

Zip 3 map

There is a map in Wikipedia on 3-digit zip codes that I just absolutely love.

https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:ZIP3_zones.svg

Unfortunately, there are some errors. - 3-digit Zip 235 (Norfolk VA) is missing. I think you just need to complete the polygon across the top.

-SCF 101/102 in Manhattan are missing but the polygons are already so tiny it's probably not reasonable to include them.

- It looks like 3-digit Zip 106 (White Plains NY) has been folded into 105.

- There is a tiny unfilled white space between 107/108. It had three zips within it that should be associated with 105.

- 3-digit Zip 116 (Far Rockaway NY) is missing.

- Zip 089 (New Brunswick NJ) is missing.

- When I click on the polygon for 134 (Utica NY), I also pull up 120 at the same time. Looks like they're compounded. Those should be dissociated.

- There is a blank space in western New York associated with the 5-digit zip 14536 that needs a polygon.

- 3-digit Zip 398 and 317 in southwest Georgia are combined into one polygon when they should be split.

OgreBot replacement

Thank you for all efforts in operation OgreBot! Could you please consider to share bot's code, so it may be adjusted to current API and run by other maintainer? --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:23, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi EugeneZelenko. In an earlier conversation about this, Magog wrote that the code is here: https://bitbucket.org/MagogTheOgre/ogrebot/src/master/. At the time, User:Mdaniels5757 expressed interest in maintaining the code, and he made it part of User:MDanielsBot, but he is now on a wikibreak. So you are probably on your own, if you want a go at updating it. But very good luck. A lot of users are missing their daily updates from the bot, so an effort would be very much appreciated. Delete your pillory pages

I think, the page User:OgreBot/Uploads by new users and subpages are simply a pillory to offend generally new Uploaders by declaring an arbitrary suspicion against them. If you want to work with such lists, it is recommended to save the lists only offline. Therefore you shoudt request deleting them. Antonsusi (talk) 20:19, 15 May 2021 (UTC)

@Antonsusi: the pages are incredibly useful for new file patrol. I don't see a reason to get rid of them. They imply no wrongdoing. Elli (talk) 22:45, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
It's a case of observation of all new uploaders to find only a few, who make errors. Antonsusi (talk) 23:37, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
@Antonsusi: quite a lot of the new uploads are problematic. Without the lists, Commons would be significantly worse off (and indeed, since the bot has stopped, it has been). There is no implication of wrongdoing either. I don't see a problem with this feature. Elli (talk) 02:01, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Dresden-Bot inactive since May 12th

Hi Magog the Ogre. As always: One just starts appreciating things as they are lost. So: Thanks for your great bot work! Unfortunately, the Dresden-Bot stopped working on May 12th. Would you please have a look? Thanks! --Derbrauni (talk) 06:08, 17 May 2021 (UTC)

Hi Magog the Ogre. It's me again. Immediately after my last post I saw the notice about the end of the bot. Sorry for not seeing it earlier. Anyway: I want to leave nothing undone to convince you to repair the bot or to set up a new one. I know from many fan groups (Dresden, trains, ships, ...) that the new image lists were checked daily by many people. This brought two gread advantages for Wikimedia: On the one hand, these experts could categorize the images better than anyone else could. So that the database quality rised. On the other hand, it's nice to read that your image uploads do not somehow disappear but they are seen and bring joy to other users. I for example got sometimes some „thankyou“'s for new ship images and so on. So this might be an extra motivation for uploading new images.

I assume that there are many other reason, why the bot is so useful. So again I'd like to ask you to leap over your own shadow and to overcome the struggle with the new data base structure. Many people from all over the word would appreciate this very much. Greeting from Germany, --Derbrauni (talk) 14:10, 27 May 2021 (UTC)

The problem is I don't have time or emotional energy to spend on maintaining the bot. The database move was announced months ago but I didn't even see it because I haven't been following the emails.
I may be able to turn on the gallery functionality again but then my worry is we'll be back here again in a few years after there's some API or Labs change that I didn't follow. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 12:13, 30 May 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for the feedback! Reactivating the gallery function would be a huge pleasure for many people! The outlook of having this for some years would be much better than the current situation. So if you find some time and energy I'd be more than happy! --Derbrauni (talk) 13:40, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
I certainly understand your "emotional energy" issue. You have done an enormous amount of creative coding, including bots, for the Commons and also all your admin actions, never mind the stuff I do not even know about! Thank you so much for what you have done. And please feel free to just enjoy yourself at this point! Kindest regards, Krok6kola (talk) 14:06, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
Hello Magog the Ogre, many thanks for your service with the OgreBot. I use this for the new images of Dresden, also for Postcards and for Robotron computers. The management of the new images for a category tree was only possible with your daliy lists. Without your very cool work we fall back in the dark middle ages. We have no choise to do our daily volunteer work. - I know it is a bad thing, when the infrastructure change. So I lost many tools with the death of the german toolserver. I had not the time to transfer the old tools to the new toolforge.org infrasturcture. But on the other way I understand the way to change the infrastructure. Now it has a better basic for the future. - I know many of the Wikipedians in Dresden and surounding, and they all use your daily lists. - As "emotional energy" I would like send you an original en:Stollen from Dresden. If you like, then send me an post adress via email. Best regards -- sk (talk) 14:02, 10 June 2021 (UTC)
Oh my gosh, that's a wonderful idea. I'd love to entertain it, but I very much need to keep my anonymity. I will see if I can get it up and running when I go on vacation in a few weeks. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 15:12, 13 June 2021 (UTC)
Dear Magog, I support the above from the bottom of my heart. I value your work and that of your bot immensely and would also contribute something from the Hessian cuisine (like en:Ahle Wurst or a product from en:Rheinhessen (wine region). Of course I can understand your wish for privacy, but a voucher can also be sent by wiki-mail and we never will find out who has redeemed it. Seriously: please do not hesitate to articulate your wishes. --Emha (talk) 13:30, 16 June 2021 (UTC)

File:The Arabic Holy Quran.pdf has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi! I know you retired your bots (and why) but I think I saw a message somewhere that oldver.php would continue. Since it does not work for me today I would like to hear if thats retired too? Daily gallery updater has failed

Hello, Magog the Ogre. My gallery at User:Kober/Georgia has recently been updated after the hiatus of a couple of months, but I received a message saying that further update is impossible due to software limitations. I reviewed the log and I think Category:Qajar Iran is the ultimate culprit. Is it possible to remove it from the update list? Thanks, --Kober (talk) 07:50, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

@Kober: the problem is you don't have subpages. The bot is doing several days at once to catch up. Please let me know how you'd like to proceed. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 13:49, 4 September 2021 (UTC)

Hello Magog the Ogre,

I see that the new file gallery pages are back, even starting right after they ended several months ago. I don't know what happened behind the scenes to make it work again. If it was you, thank you! If someone else was involved, I want to thank them as well. Those galleries were certainly missed. Regards --Rosenzweig τ 17:02, 5 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi, @Magog the Ogre. Do you have plans to restart this robot? I recently wrote another robot, may used as a backup for this robot. Kanashimi (talk) 20:47, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

I recreate code for this task. I think maybe I can take over this task. Kanashimi (talk) 12:42, 11 September 2021 (UTC)
Hi. My code is completed. Maybe I can use it as a backup for this robot? But I do not know the plan of you. Although @Ww2censor says that you perhaps do not have plan to restart this task, but the bot seems still alive. However, everyone will be happy for resurrection of the bot. Please ping me if there are any news, thank you. Kanashimi (talk) 22:40, 22 September 2021 (UTC)
@Kanashimi: the bot is... semi-alive. My work schedule is less hectic. Please make sure you incorporate my latest changes, as there will be important bug fixes and updates. Then eventually I can hand it off. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:41, 28 September 2021 (UTC)

File:Arrowsmith (1925 cover).jpg

Hi, thanks for your working in the cleanup of duplicate files at enwiki! I suppose this edit was done by mistake; maybe the cleanup.js script is doing something that it wasn't expected to do. I bring this to your attention in case you want to check it. Regards, —capmo (talk) 01:59, 1 October 2021 (UTC)

@Capmo: nope, not a bug. It was addressed under FAQ#3 for the bot back when it made automated edits: Special:Permalink/351278805. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:23, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
Ok, I get it. But I don't think leaving those fields blank is the best alternative, though... it makes template {{Information}} look awful. Maybe the bot could get the source and the other information from the original upload's log? In the case it's not possible, I'd prefer to have a warning added to the page asking for fields X and Y to be checked. Regards, —capmo (talk) 04:47, 2 October 2021 (UTC)
If the information isn't provided, and it looks ugly, then the proper action is to take it up on Template:Information. Users don't (and shouldn't) care about which project it was uploaded to, when, and by whom. They care about where it actually comes from, when it was created, and who created it. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 00:06, 4 October 2021 (UTC)

Thank you for the reactivation of OgreBot

Dear Magog the Ogre,

I discovered with pleasure that your Bot has started recently generating again galleries of recent uploads in specific categories. Many thanks to you (and/or others involved, if so) for making this possible. It is a great help to uncover uploads on 'niche' topics, where new illustrations for Wikipedia articles are still needed, but also to help correcting/completing the categories given by uploaders.

Best wishes and greetings, --Zinneke (talk) 08:35, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

I absolutely agree. Thanks Ww2censor (talk) 11:25, 7 October 2021 (UTC)

Image

Hi Magog, Apologies in advance I may be missing something completely obvious but why was File:Bandera del Municipio de "Coronel Francisco Pérez de Uriondo".png undeleted as I believed it was a copyvio ?, Also does the image load fully for you as it doesn't for me, Thanks, Warm Regards, –Davey2010Talk 16:26, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

Nevermind missed your original undeletion comment, Still the image doesn't load fully for me, Tried laptop and mobile and neither load it >, Thanks, –Davey2010Talk 16:31, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

@Davey2010: this one is pretty uncontroversiably below TOO which is why I just went and undeleted. You can see it here. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 17:20, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Ah okay, The image still only half loads for me - tried Edge, Edge incognito and CHrome on mobile and all 3 are only showing half of the image?, Many thanks, –Davey2010Talk 17:30, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
The lower half is white. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 19:32, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Ohhhh I see, Sorry I thought it was an image of something or a logo which is why I was completely lost, You were saying it was below TOO so I was expecting a logo or something, Yeah the title translates as "Flag of the Municipality of "Coronel Francisco Pérez de Uriondo"", Wished I translated that at the start. My apologies Magog. –Davey2010Talk 20:02, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
(talk page stalker) I thought the same thing as Davey. I figured the blue was sky and the lower half of the image was corrupted. I somehow completely missed that it's a flag. clpo13(talk) 19:56, 3 December 2021 (UTC)
Haha clpo13 well I feel very relieved I wasn't the one who thought it was a half corrupted image! :), Honestly couldn't understand why it wasn't working on any of my devices .... yeah because it's a bloody flag, Could scream right now lol –Davey2010Talk 20:04, 3 December 2021 (UTC)

Daily gallery updater has failed on User:Magog the Ogre/Political maps

Hello. This message is to inform you that a daily gallery in your userspace, User:Magog the Ogre/Political maps, has failed. Your gallery has a hard upper-limit of about 8000 files per day, while your gallery would have had 23076 files (including files already on the page).

This usually happens because a gallery is too broad, encompassing too many subcategories. Please review the logs here and request that a subcategory be excluded, or narrow your category choice(s).

Please make your request for removal within 4 days, or your gallery will be subject to removal.

Thank you. Magog the Ogre (via OgreBot (talk) 14:57, 5 December 2021 (UTC))

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Unlicensed tumblr file

Hi. Recently a tumblr image was uploaded to Commons which was unlicensed and which I have listed for deletion as a copy-vio.File:Tommaso de‘ Cavalieri.jpg Initially it was listed without any license as self-created on 10 January 2020; then a CC-by-4.0 license was added, which did not apply. Meanwhile, a properly sourced image file, created in accordance with 2008 WMF rules for Old Masters, was uploaded here.File:Italian Renaissance drawing of young man Bonnat-Helleu Museum.jpg It is cropped and has the maximum possible resolution (there is a zoomable tool, but the image cannot be dezoomified). These are part of Category:Drawings in the Musée Bonnat: almost all of the images have been uploaded using the same webmuseo form. The dating, subject and artist have not so far been determined with any certainty.

Please could the tumblr image be deleted, as the properly sourced high-res cropped image already exists. Thanks, Mathsci (talk) 01:46, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Bust

Can you please explain why the bust of president harry truman gets removed when his creator died more than 70 years ago and if its because its before 1927 then why is the charels curtis bust allowed on there I'm not angry just confused that's all Journey896 (talk) 00:37, 3 February 2022 (UTC)

@Journey896: Explained in the linked deletion rationale: Commons:Deletion requests/Files of User:Ooga32. See also this chart which explains that 70 years ago is irrelevant in modern American contexts. Magog the Ogre (talk) (contribs) 02:39, 3 February 2022 (UTC)
