Sri Lankan election maps[edit]

Hello Obi2canibe, I have seen that you have uploaded quite a lot of fine election maps depicting the results of presidential and parliamentary elections in Sri Lanka. Have the boundaries of the election districts and constituencies been unchanged since 1989 ?

@Furfur: - The answer to your question is no. The boundaries of the 22 electoral districts have not changed since they were delimitated in 1981 (they were first used at the 1989 parliamentary election). Similarly, the boundaries of the 160 polling divisions have not changed since they were delimitated in the mid 1970s (they were first used at the 1977 parliamentary election). Since the introduction of PR in 1978 the polling divisions are only used for administrative purposes, not for electing MPs.--Obi2canibe (talk) 11:22, 13 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for these explanations. I still have to read more about the Sri Lankan electoral system ... In fact I meant the polling divisions and not constituencies. These polling divisions have no other function, e.g., in normal administration ? So, electoral districts have been unchanged since the 1989 election and polling divisions have been unchanged since the 1977 election (PR = proportional representation ?). Yes, PR = proportional representation. The polling divisions are used for administration e.g. registering electors, holding elections and of course collating results. Since the introduction of PR MPs are not elected at the polling division level, they are elected at the electoral district level. Each electoral district contains several polling divisions. It would be great if you could create svg maps which could be used across Wiki projects - my maps are rather amateurish, created using Microsoft Paint!--Obi2canibe (talk) 17:17, 14 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
