Update to CommonsApi

Hi Magnus, Did you recently update the CommonsApi (https://magnus-toolserver.toolforge.org/commonsapi.php)? My bot was using this API to extract data from files. Staring approximately 1-2 days ago, the post-processing of this data fails on my end. So I'm wondering if the input has changed, or if something on my end broke down. Hi, the API works fine, as far as I can tell, but the URL changed; you have given the new URL, but maybe your code still has the old one, and doesn't follow the redirect? --Magnus Manske (talk) 17:19, 23 June 2020 (UTC)

Get a bot flag in Japanese Wikipedia

Hi there. In Japanese Wikipedia we recently changed the WP:SOCK policy so it now allows a bot with multiple operators. Since CommonsDelinker has been operating in jawiki for long time with no big issues, would you consider requesting a bot flag in w:ja:Wikipedia:Bot/使用申請? ネイ (talk) 17:44, 1 July 2020 (UTC)

@ネイ: Magnus doesn't really operate CDL any more, you can see the current owners. Maybe ask Steinsplitter, though I wonder whether anyone at jaWP would just submit an application as it is now everywhere in its places and type of operations.  — billinghurst sDrewth 06:44, 12 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi Magnus. PITA here again. I am not able to get the script to identify that I am authorised. Landing at a delete page it already states "Checking OAuth..." rather than the usual LOGIN request. Anyway, I reauthorised using the direct link from the script, and I still cannot progress, it is caught in the checking phase. The landing pages seem okay. Parliament building of Benin

Greetings,

I saw the picture mentionned in the subject on the Benin page as well as Porto-Novo page. And it is written that it is the siege of Benin Parliament. Please, note that this is wrong. The building name in French is Palais des Congrès which can be litteraly translated as Palace of Congress, but its purpose is just to host events like seminars, conference and meeting. Benin Parliament siege is the "Palais des Gouverneurs" in French. And it is located in Porto-Novo, not Cotonou. Since i'm not used to editing wikipedia articles, I think i might let you know so you can correct this.

We’d like to use some of your pictures for a book that will be publish next fall. On the Internet site that we consulted, it says that the pictures are copyright free.

The title of the book is Secrets de plantes 2 and the name of the author is Fabien Girard. The intial print run will be 1000 copies.

The Vernaccia pic

Hi, my name is Marco. I just would like to tell that the pic uploaded in the Vernaccia article it is not a Vernaccia from Sardinia, but (as stated on the label on the bottle) is a Vernaccia di San Gimignano. @Brycehughes: I wanted to do the same thing. The source code for the commonsapi is here. That implies the appropriate place to log issues for it is here. Indeed, I already can see a couple there. As to your issue, it appears to match an existing issue; from which issue I discover that Sebastian Kürten has a forked version which doesn't seem to have this bug. Hallo Magnus Manske,

gern verwende ich lange beschreibende Dateinamen. Gestern hatte ich es das erste Mal wohl übertrieben und Schierigkeit beim Hochladen, so dass ich die Datei umbenennen (kürzen) lassen musste.

Leider finde ich nirgends eine Angabe, wie lang ein Dateinamen maximal sein darf.

Kannst Du mir mitteilen, wie groß die maximale Länge (Zeichenzahl incl. Erweiterung) für Dateinamen auf Wikimedia Commons sein darf?

In the future, please provide a link to the file in question; otherwise, it is very hard to find out what you are talking about. It is very likely that the file was just uploaded by the bot Magnus operates, not Magnus himself, so he is very likely to have no information about the photograph (see also the red box at the top of this page). Hi Magnus I have written a book on the 1777 battles of Saratoga, which will be published by Oxford University Press next year. Simon Fraser of Balnain was mortally wounded in the second battle (about 3 PM on Oct. 7, 1777) at the moment that the battle and thus the entire American War of Independence reached its tipping point. It is, of course, important for us to include the image you uploaded, the only good one of Fraser. Flickr2Commons has been downed for more than a week, which is probably the longest malfunction I have seen when using the too. After submitting the link, the tool stuck at "Running...". Petscan and the new search filter...

Thanks for the update in the Github. I had some problems finding it in the live version..

I was attempting to do something like the search in this query https://petscan.wmflabs.org/?psid=18633354 but using the PETSCAN category combination logic to do the incategory:X -incategory:Y logic rather than as a text query.

Bot only doing half a job

As seen here The bot is only removing part of the image link, not all of it, leaving a mess visible on the article page.

To take one of these three removals - it was [[File:Madhuri_dixit.jpg|thumb|upright|[[Madhuri Dixit]]]] the bot removed File:Madhuri_dixit.jpg leaving [[|thumb|upright|[[Madhuri Dixit]]]] which appears on the article page - I have cleaned up that page, but presumably there are more - if not many more - Arjayay (talk) 10:14, 27 June 2021 (UTC)

JS help needed

Hi Magnus, there are many "Users with script experience that may help" mentioned and also Commons JavaScript coders - but almost all of them seem to be inactive, since days, months and (many) years. So I ask you:
Leider kann ich kein JavaScript, und stümpere an einem verwaisten script rum weil sich niemand anderer der Sache annimmt. Nun habe ich ein Problem das ich nicht lösen kann. In meiner sandbox habe ich eine Funktion zum Laufen gebracht; als ich jedoch den Code dorthin stellte, wo viele andere damit arbeiten, erhielt ich vom CommonsMaintenanceBot eine kryptische Meldung "ERROR: Cannot parse line 642 column 115: Unexpected token =".

Auf Zeile 642 stand

Da ich nicht weiss, wie der bot die column 115 berechnet weiss ich nicht welches token unexpected ist. Ich weiss auch nicht wie gravierend der error ist, ob die Gesamtfunktionalität des script beeinträchtigt wird; zur Sicherheit habe ich mal die gesamte Funktion desaktiviert. Bei mir in der sandbox arbeitet das script richtig und der bot sagt nichts abfälliges.

These unique resources place recordings from the Smithsonian Folkways collection at the center of the learning experience. These will be FREE resources for all educators, everywhere. Each learning pathway is a curated musical journey through a historical, cultural, or musical theme (e.g. Music of the Chicano Movement; Sounds of the Civil Rights Movement; Cajun & Zydeco Music; etc...).

As part of these learning pathways, we are creating interactive student slideshows that will help teachers facilitate learning experiences in any educational environment both in-person or online. We wanted to let you know that we will be using the 'Louisiana crawfish' image seen on your Wikimedia Commons webpage. We are planning to use the image for our 'Cajun and Zydeco' learning pathway. È da un po' di tempo che ho notato un bug nel bot: quando le immagini che vengono rinominate hanno un numero come primo carattere, il bot non sostituisce correttamente il nome "dimenticando" il primo carattere. Ad esempio qui, ma l'aveva fatto diverse volte in passato, ad esempio per le immagini delle bandierine che cominciano con "600".

Erroneous image of Microseris nutans

I noticed that the image of Microseris nutans used on page https://species.wikimedia.org/wiki/Microseris is wrong for this species. The author (Matt Lavin) called it as Agoseris glauca (likely updated after your bot grabbed the image). I communicated with the author and he confirmed that this is Agoseris glauca, indeed. NOT a picture of the first SD&A train east after completion of the line.

This print and original negative is held by the San Diego History Center, and it's metadata notes the image was taken by Ralph P. Stineman between 1911 to 1915, in Needles, California on the AT&SF line in front of the El Garces Hotel. Furthermore, the El Garces sits on the South side of the tracks, thus this train is eastbound - going away from San Diego. Note the 1915 Panama-California Expo logo on banner. The last car of this train is a Lake series Pullman, assigned to the Santa Fe. The SD&A line was not completed till Nov of 1919. This image has nothing to do with the SD&A.

The picture of the Headquarters for the Bureau of Automotive Repair is incorrect because the Bureau moved in May 2012.

Manhattan (cocktail)

   The picture that is used for "Manhattan (cocktail)" is incorrect.  The link is here.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manhattan_(cocktail)  It depicts a cocktail shaker which is NEVER to be used when making a Manhattan.  They are always to be stirred and never shaken.  In general, whiskey and gin are two spirits that should never be shaken.  The actual cocktail in that picture it accurate and you can tell it has been properly stirred as there is no foam and it has a dark amber color to it.  Shaken Manhattans are foamy, light in color due to the melted ice dilution, and typically do not taste great.
