OTRS again

Sorry to bother you again, Krd, but I'm just curious to follow up about User_talk:Krd/archive/2020#OTRS_permissions_for_Images_from_Khalili_Collections_partnership. I'm just looking for any information on what may be holding up those tickets. Thanks in advance for any help, MartinPoulter (talk) 16:24, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

There are no open tickets on this issue, so it is either resolved as the permission was received, of the sender failed to answer our followup questions. Do you know the ticket number? --Krd 16:29, 6 January 2021 (UTC)

User:Alec Smithson

Hello, since you're a check user, here we found another SP IP of that user. I've added it to the related category. -- SERGIO (aka the Blackcat) 20:57, 7 January 2021 (UTC)

Ok, thank you. Is there anything more to do on Commons related to this? --Krd 17:37, 9 January 2021 (UTC)

--Krd 06:38, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
Hallo Krd, herzlichen Dank.

Please participate in the Universal Code of Conduct consultation on Wikimedia Commons!

Dear Krd

Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.

After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a policy (available in many languages) that has been ratified by the Board of Trustees. We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. As a member of the functionary team of Wikimedia Commons, your opinion on enforcement is of great value. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so. There are a few enforcement questions so you can easily outline your answers based on them. Please do not hesitate to bring any more questions/challenges you think are not yet discussed.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. You can also share your thoughts by replying to this message (Please ping me so I get notified), posting your message on my talk page. I am aware that some thoughts cannot be expressed publicly, so you can always share your opinion by emailing me as well.

As a valued member of the Commons community, please share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences that relate to UCoC. Let us know what needs to be improved so we can build a more friendly and cooperative space to increase editor engagement and retention of new users.

Wikimedia projects are governed by you. So, it is you who needs to step up to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant working environment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! Wikitanvir (WMF) (talk) 10:18, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Explanation

Both Edgar181 and Sealle have been the same situation, but yet you choose to block one but not the another, even giving them user rights despite their deception. Also, you failed to address the votes that called for a block as well in your closing note. Why is that? 1989 (talk) 17:28, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

At very first, this is the wrong tone here. Please try again. --Krd 17:29, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Excuse me? 1989 (talk) 17:29, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
WP:AGF against me, ever heard of that? --Krd 17:30, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
All I asked was to explain your actions. It should be quite simple Krd, come on. 1989 (talk) 17:31, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
All I asked for is being asked in an at least somewhat polite way, in the time I need to make myself familiar again with the Edgar181 case. I hope that's not asked too much. --Krd 17:36, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
In what way was I not polite? Please, tell me. 1989 (talk) 17:43, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
I have either the time nor the crayons to explain politeness. --Krd 17:57, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Of course you won't explain your issue with me and yet I'm the problem here? Look in a mirror. 1989 (talk) 18:02, 16 January 2021 (UTC)
Edgar181 was blocked by me in my function as checkuser who handled the CU request. Edgar181 edited the day before the block. His admin status was removed by stewards after he retired during the desysop request, in which I've not been involved at all. Other user rights were likely not restored be cause he was blocked anyway.
Sealle got his admin bit removed by me as closing crat after the desysop request. I restored previous minor rights per common practice in the same step. I made absolutely no call about whether he shall be or shall not be blocked. The desysop request was not a vote to block or not to block, but if you like to have that, I'm not opposed.
As I now feel involved in the case, I choose to leave this decision to any other Commons admin. I suggest to put that on the admin noticeboard. --Krd 17:57, 16 January 2021 (UTC)

Fehlerhafter Upload

Hallo Krd, weißt Du, was mit File:Schwarzenborn (Cölbe) Ev.

VG, --Wikiwal (talk) 08:07, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Kirche Orgel.jpg. Nochmals herzlichen Dank für Deine Mühe! VG, --Wikiwal (talk) 09:47, 25 January 2021 (UTC)

Please take a short survey regarding UCoC

Hello Krd,

I would like to inform you that we now have a survey in place to take part in the UCoC consultation. It is not a long one and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. You can take the survey even if you have already participated in the on-wiki consultation. It has a different set of questions and allows you to participate anonymously and privately.

As a member of the Commons functionaries, your opinion is especially essential. Please click here to participate in the survey.

You are still welcome to participate in the on-wiki discussions. If you prefer you can have your say by sending me an email. You can also drop me an email if you want to have a one-to-one chat.

Template help

Hi Krd,

I have submitted OTRS Ticket#: 2021031010000104, with signed public domain permission from a photographer named A.S. Thanumaleayan for Project #4. A modified version of this template would be helpful, as it will likely save OTRS volunteers and me some time and effort.

Additionally I received another 1000 or so photos of remote pre-12th century historic monuments for Project #5 last week, from a different photographer, under the ongoing heritage digitization project. I hope to find time to review that collection of photographs, select the useful/good quality ones, and then upload the select ones to commons later this month. Would need another template for that one. I will submit the signed public domain permissions form for Project #5 separately. Just a heads up.

Thank you for all your past help, Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 11:21, 10 March 2021 (UTC)

Changed license

Dear Krd, On 11 March User:Bmwz3hm (active since 2014) added this image to Commons, under a CC-zero license. On 18 March you added OTRS-permission to this nice photo, but also changed the license from CC-zero to CC-BY-SA-4.0. That might have been on special request from the uploader or photographer, but aren't CC-licenses irrevocable? Vysotsky (talk) 11:17, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

Hello. CC licenses are irrevocable, but if no license has been validly granted, there is no revocation happening. We could discuss how this case may have been, but I don't think this is of much relevance. If I'm mistaken, please advise. --Krd 12:16, 20 March 2021 (UTC)

OTRS received: just wondering

Hi Krd,

Just wondering: I just processed a ticket in OTRS and wanted to add the OTRS-received template to the images concerned, but your bot added these two weeks ago already. According to the template (and our policy), the images will be deleted if after the first response by an agent there is no response of the uploader.

How can we make this visible for the "normal" Commons user? They might think that the images I am working on now can be deleted in 16 days, but instead the uploader still has 30 days from today. Should I replace the OTRS-received tag with yet another template, should I (manually?) change the date in the template? This seems to be to be an new step in our process, how do I proceed? Ciell (talk) 12:29, 24 March 2021 (UTC)

Please provide a link the the ticket or the files. --Krd 12:31, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
I'm talking about these kind of edits by your bot: [1] Ciell (talk) 18:27, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
What is for me, as the OTRS agent, the next step to confirm I've responded to the email sent, and the 30 day period starts from today onward? Ciell (talk) 18:29, 24 March 2021 (UTC)
I think in most cases as soon as the OTRS user has replied the first time, the solution of the ticket happens quickly, so no additional action is required. Of course you can always renew the OTRS-received template manually.
I you think the bot should act different or not at all, please suggest. --Krd 07:12, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
I wonder: would it be an option to use the op-template, or even creating a whole new template that says "email received but not yet processed"? Or maybe adding the OTRS-received after the first response is sent from OTRS? Ciell (talk) 16:30, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
One intention of the current bot job is to avoid deletion after 7 days when the file is tagged no-permission or has a deletion request. If we try to add after the first OTRS response, this would be pointless for most cases, as the file then is already removed.
I also think the the current template says exactly what you propose, so I'm still unsure if I get your point correctly. --Krd 16:37, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
The bot confirms receiving the email in the queue, but we only (should only) start the 30 days when the first response by an OTRS-agent is send. So either your bot could maybe do a second run for changing the date, or it needs to get it's own template imho. We sometimes have 7-14 days backlog, depending on the complexity of the older tickets in the queue. This should not have consequences for tickets that are still waiting, so a restart of the clock sounds most reasonable to me. Ciell (talk) 18:54, 25 March 2021 (UTC)
I still think we don't talk about the same thing, as I don't get the point. Does it help regarding your workflow if we disable this bot for permissions-nl? --Krd 07:54, 26 March 2021 (UTC)
Hi, the other queues have a backlog sometimes as well, right? So it could be a broader problem? What triggers your bot to place the OP on the file page? Ciell (talk) 19:25, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
I have disabled the part of the bot that edits any files. --Krd 19:31, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Okay. You've already done that? Forever? Or just temporarily? Do we still need to find some kind of solution for this? Ciell (talk) 20:00, 30 March 2021 (UTC)
Not forever, but at least until anybody requests different. If it causes any pain, it should be disabled. I'd be happy to help to find any solution, but that is difficult as long as I don't see or don't understand the problem. --Krd 20:07, 30 March 2021 (UTC)

Ticket 2021032210011026

Strange, I remember something about this ticket, my user name is shown as owner, but all the correspondence is yours. My 1st question is did you accept the uploader's representation as legal representative? Any idea what I might have done for my name to be on the ticket as owner? Atsme Talk 📧 13:09, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

I cannot discuss content of the ticket on a public wiki. Please ask in a private place, perhaps OTRS wiki. --Krd 17:12, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I understand about non-disclosure and didn't expect you to say anything beyond what is included on the Otrs permission template that we attach to a file. But to be on the safe side, I'll ping you at OTRS wiki. Atsme Talk 📧 18:41, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
What I can answer here would be „No.“ and „Owners are irrelevant.“ but I‘m not sure if that would be polite and/or helpful. For anything more a nonpublic discussion makes more sense to me. --Krd 21:17, 5 April 2021 (UTC)
I don't have a problem with that - you answered what I needed to know, thank you. I just didn't want you to think I imposed on a ticket you were already handling. I'm not even sure how my name got there, but like you said, it's irrelevant. Cheers! Atsme Talk 📧 23:03, 5 April 2021 (UTC)

My bad - I simply didn't pay attention to the url, I just clicked on the links provided in the list emails. Now I know, and apparently, the answer to my original question is be patient. Alrighty then, I'll just sit tight. Ironically, all of this back and forth could have been avoided with a simple, "we're working on it, be patient" but then I would not have become aware of the otrs-wiki url, which will probably be changed, anyway. The good news is that it has made me more diligent in checking actual urls rather than simply taking links for granted. Enjoy the upcoming weekend and try not to work too hard. Interview for Commons APIs

Hi Krd! My name is Seve and I am the Product Manager for the Platform engineering team at WMF. I am currently taking an audit of our different APIs to better understand how they are being used and the challenges and issues that these interfaces currently present. OTRS Volunteer Co-working Session

Hi @Krd, It's good to see you being so active on the OTRS platform and I was wondering if we could organize a Meet and Co-working session for OTRS volunteers to get together on a Google Meet/Zoom call where we can close some tickets together and share expertise with each other. Would you be interested in something like this? Satdeep Gill (talk) 14:50, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

I'm be available to support that, but it is beyond my limits to organise it. As this appears to be an internal matter, please move discussion to OTRS wiki. --Krd 14:56, 23 May 2021 (UTC)

Permission query

Hi Krd, just a query in regards to the OTSR ticket for File:Seagulls at Dusk, St Kilda Beach Water’s Edge, Archival Poster, (102.41cm x 76.81cm).jpg. Is this ticket for just that image or all by the uploader? I'm asking because I just tagged File:The Boardwalk, St Kilda Beach Water’s Edge, Archival Print Poster.jpg, File:Lighthouse View at Nearly Night, St Kilda Beach Water’s Edge, Archival Print Poster.jpg and File:Boardwalk Palms at Dusk, St Kilda Beach Water’s Edge, Archival Print Poster.jpg by the same uploader for deletion but I'm happy to remove the tag if the images have the proper permission. Calistemon (talk) 04:20, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Sadly it's even worse, I have revoked the permission now for the file as our e-mail answer to the sender appeared to bounce, so we have to consider the permission to be invalid at all. --Krd 06:13, 29 May 2021 (UTC)

Krdbot timestamps

Hi again. Would you please configure Krdbot to use English month names when closing DRs on Commons, according to the default locale convention (language, script, date and time format) on Commons? It appears to be using month names in another language instead, for example in this edit.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:50, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

Template permission, Project 7, ticket:2021052710009142

Hi, I submitted a signed permissions form to OTRS about a week ago, seeking permission to use the template. I am still working through the previous Project 6, hoping to finish it soon. Then I will like to review and upload the hundreds of photos of historic/archaeological sites from Project 7, once I have your/OTRS okay to use the template. Please see OTRS ticket 2021052710009142 when you have a moment. Thank you for your help on Project 1 through 6 so far, Ms Sarah Welch (talk) 11:09, 3 June 2021 (UTC)

Please take a look at these two IP accounts:

The person behind the account claims to be "User:吹笛牧童." Please see my warning on 吹笛牧童's talk page. I tried to warn him before reporting here but he seemed to ignore it. Because another IP (2402:7500:4DC:A091:7470:C6E7:889F:D1F6) did the same to me. I don't know what their intentions are. It's really annoying to talk to someone I don't like very much—especially people hiding behind IP addresses. However, I can see no evidence that they are the same person. Should this issue go here or to a request for checkuser first?--Kai3952 (talk) 07:04, 20 May 2021 (UTC)

Hello. Ich cannot read the language, so I have some difficulties to understand the situation. Maybe it better to involve another admin who has understanding of the language? --Krd 07:07, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
Trust me, it didn't work out for a reason. Because they all ignored me. I do not know why. As long as it involves the Chinese language, I'll ask them (eg. King of Hearts, Minorax, Shizhao, Mys 721tx, etc) for help. However, the question is whether they'll help me.--Kai3952 (talk) 12:33, 20 May 2021 (UTC)
Is there any misuse from the account or the IPs? I cannot make a call about this when unable to read the language. Please alaborate. --Krd 11:09, 21 May 2021 (UTC)

Batch editing protected files (continuation)

Hi Krd, thanks for your proposal to help. To be able to edit SDC components of protected files, we would need the following:

 1. You would need to get oAuth login details for your account. This can be done by m:Special:OAuthConsumerRegistration/propose (using an owner-only consumers). In this step you can restrict the rights; as far as I see only basic rights and edit protected files is needed.
 2. Please save the python script from User:SchlurcherBot/commonsapiaddclaimsoauth in a file (please note that the line breaks are only properly preserved in the source code view). Please name the file commonsapiaddclaimsoauth.py
 3. Add your oAuth login details generated in step 1 to line 60.
 4. Please make sure you have the dependencies installed from line 37-40.

The python script will contact the API and perform the SDC edit. I perform a lot of pre-processing and post-processing outside of python. We can skip these and I can send you directly self-containing commands as follows. I think one can quess what is happening, but they are not directly human readable. Note that these are one-liner python calls:

python3 commonsapiaddclaimsoauth.py -i "M3942539" -o "automatically modify structured data based on file information: date copyright license" -v "{\"claims\":[{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P571\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"time\":\"+2008-04-25T00:00:00Z\",\"timezone\":0,\"before\":0,\"after\":0,\"precision\":11,\"calendarmodel\":\"http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q1985727\"},\"type\":\"time\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"},{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P6216\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"entity-type\":\"item\",\"numeric-id\":50423863,\"id\":\"Q50423863\"},\"type\":\"wikibase-entityid\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"},{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P275\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"entity-type\":\"item\",\"numeric-id\":50829104,\"id\":\"Q50829104\"},\"type\":\"wikibase-entityid\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"},{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P275\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"entity-type\":\"item\",\"numeric-id\":14946043,\"id\":\"Q14946043\"},\"type\":\"wikibase-entityid\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"}]}"
python3 commonsapiaddclaimsoauth.py -i "M207328" -o "automatically modify structured data based on file information: date copyright license" -v "{\"claims\":[{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P571\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"time\":\"+2011-07-05T00:00:00Z\",\"timezone\":0,\"before\":0,\"after\":0,\"precision\":11,\"calendarmodel\":\"http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q1985727\"},\"type\":\"time\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"},{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P6216\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"entity-type\":\"item\",\"numeric-id\":50423863,\"id\":\"Q50423863\"},\"type\":\"wikibase-entityid\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"},{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P275\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"entity-type\":\"item\",\"numeric-id\":50829104,\"id\":\"Q50829104\"},\"type\":\"wikibase-entityid\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"},{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P275\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"entity-type\":\"item\",\"numeric-id\":14946043,\"id\":\"Q14946043\"},\"type\":\"wikibase-entityid\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"}]}"

Please let me know if we can proceed this way. If this test is successful, I would send you a complete list of commands for all files. Thanks again for your proposal to help. --Schlurcher (talk) 12:01, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

bots

gudn tach!

-- seth (talk) 06:49, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Moin.
--Krd 09:11, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

An issue on Permissions gadget

Hi, before all i want to thank you for undeleting all files due to my requests on VRT-wiki. I found that there is an issue on MediaWiki:Gadget-PermissionOTRS.js, because when i try to validate a permission on a file that has already a OTRS received with a ticket number, the gadget don't autofill with the ticket number the field on the gadgets window, so i have to fill it manually again. П.jpg you can see this behaviour. Can you fix this issue?--Andriy.v (talk) 16:47, 25 July 2021 (UTC)

Please test now. --Krd 05:05, 26 July 2021 (UTC)
Unfortunatly the issue isn't fixed. The curious thing that is working when the gadget is used in edit action, but not when it used in view action. I think this because the variable editform is null when the gadget is used in view action. Looking in the history i hadn't see any changes other than otrs → vrts, so this behaviour is very strange.--Andriy.v (talk) 08:02, 26 July 2021 (UTC)

Yesterday I added the image 'Gana_Fuerteventura_Logo.png' to the page | Gana Fuerteventura, which is a political party, and as far as I knew, political party logos are in the public domain, as is the logo for the PSOE or for Canarian Coalition. Hi, Krd - I didn't want to do something you might have to undo, so I thought it best to ask first. Should the following 3 VRT tickets be merged: 2021080210006758, 2021080210001191, and 2021080210001235? All are from the same person. Atsme Talk 📧 17:43, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

Hi,

I noticed you left a message on my talk page about File:Official portrait of General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed.jpg. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any additional information on the website I retrieved the image from. I have attempted to contact the copyright holders (the Bangladesh Army) through use of the system on their website which was fruitless. The image had a passage of text attached beneath it which states "copyright under fear usage policy" is this not sufficient enough? Please can you advise me on what to do next.

KRD bot on DR

Hi KRD, your usually very helpful archiving bot seems not to archive a large part of Commons:Deletion requests/2021/01/08, e.g. the sections about the Louvre pyramid, wich appear all handled. This is the transcluded file: Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Louvre Pyramid Can you find out what goes wrong? Perhaps it is the top section with NOTOC and a template:Cot. Rudraksha adverts

 • You closed Commons:Deletion requests/Rudraksha adverts ruling to keep the files for reasons which were not discussed. My understanding is that the decision should reflect the outcome of the discussion, not overrule it. Your decision does not reflect the consensus of the discussion; my request received no objections prior to closure. Had you replied with your reasons, I would have responded but you instead closed the discussion immediately without allowing for a reply. Scyrme (talk) 15:33, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
There was no discussion but only the original nomination, and the closing admin has discretion and obligation to take obvious arguments into account. If the images are widely used in Wikipedia articles and contain no advertising themselves, and no other strong reason for deletion exists, they have to be kept. File pages can be redacted if required, but I don't even see that here. --Krd 15:42, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
An unopposed nomination should still count for something, and it wouldn't have been any trouble to let me at least respond to your arguments before closing. I wasn't even given the chance to reply.
As for the arguments: The files were created as adverts, which qualifies them for speedy deletion. The only reason there even was a discussion was because I was unaware of the process and started the normal process first. The files being in use is meaningless here, because they were distributed to make the ads easier to find. The photographs themselves are literally products of stock for sale taken from selling page. It's not even clear that the Creative Commons license they were uploaded under is valid, given their commercial origin. I would be very surprised if Wikimedia Commons policy permits such images to remain if their source is obscured. There are plenty of alternative photographs available which were not created as ads which could replace these particular files where they are used. Scyrme (talk) 16:09, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
I fail to see how this can be considered an advert. Images require a source. Shall we discourage all images previously found on any commercial website? --Krd 16:35, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
My understanding is that all non-free images are already discouraged. Additionally, these images aren't random stock photos someone merely found but are photos of products for sale uploaded with the intention of linking to a shopping page. That images require a source is exactly why these files should be deleted rather than only edited to delete the source attribution and obscure the source. I know that to you these may as well just be generic pictures of walnuts and therefore they don't look like ads, but you may be missing the context. To the intended market, the images are sufficient to entice clickthrough because these items are revered objects. For example, the "13-mukhi-rudraksha" is on sale for ₹9599.99 (~€110 for 1) with the page claiming all sorts of nonsense like that wearing the product can cure arthritis and grants you superior leadership abilities. Attempts to advertise these items on Wikipedia goes beyond just uploading these images. The Rudraksha article on the English-language Wikipedia page, for example, has recently had its protection escalated in response to repeated incidents of more blatant advertising/spam, but those protections don't prevent ads being quietly uploaded to Wikimedia Commons so they've been left unchallenged until now. Scyrme (talk) 23:23, 4 October 2021 (UTC)
I cannot follow at all, but just in case I am completely missing something I have reverted the DR closure. --Krd 03:37, 5 October 2021 (UTC)

Krdbot MediaWiki::Bot version

Hey!

It seems Krdbot is using an ooold (from 2010) version of MediaWiki::Bot (3.2.6), which is meaning it's still doing some long deprecated calls to the MW API to request tokens, see phab:T280806.

At some point in the near future, that's probably going to be broken (as it's been deprecated for nearly 7 years). Looking at the changelog, you need to be on >= 5.006000 from 2014-09-01.

Any chance you can look at updating the version of the library you use?

Thanks!

Reedy (talk) 14:40, 8 July 2021 (UTC)

It can of course be done, but that will mean rewriting all scripts nearly from scratch. Maybe with a scale of end of 2021, as there are too many concurrent issues at the moment. --Krd 16:37, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
Just be aware that your bot may break at some point in the future until its updated. Reedy (talk) 17:10, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
Thank you for the note, but I currently see no way to expedite this, so we sadly will have to live with it. --Krd 17:12, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
I looked over the stuff a bit, and I think it is possible to port the relevant changes into my modified old version. It's nothing I'd like to do without need, but it's not a showstopper and can be done with not too much pain when the deprecated calls are removed. --Krd 11:16, 21 July 2021 (UTC)
It'd be appreciated if you can fix them before we turn them off... It makes the tracking the improvement easier, especially if it's fairly easy. Reedy (talk) 15:07, 31 July 2021 (UTC)
Following up from IRC... You will need to change your code and/or the library you're using. The change in MW is https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/c/mediawiki/core/+/153110 from November 2014. The two queries I see KrdBot making at action=query&prop=info&intoken and action=query&prop=revisions&rvtoken.
You can probably just look for intoken and rvtoken in your code.
A query like https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&prop=revisions&rvtoken=rollback&titles=User:Reedy needs replacing with https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&prop=revisions&meta=tokens&type=rollback&titles=User:Reedy. The position of the token in the output may vary.
A query like https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&prop=info&intoken=edit&titles=User:Reedy becomes https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&prop=info&meta=tokens&type=csrf&titles=User:Reedy
Note, a few of the intoken token types have been changed/condensed. intoken was one of block, delete, edit, email, import, move, protect, unblock, watch as per https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=help&modules=query%2Binfo, but now it's createaccount, csrf, deleteglobalaccount, login, patrol, rollback, setglobalaccountstatus, userrights, watch; many of them have just become csrf as per https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=help&modules=query%2Btokens
In most cases, you just need to swapout the intoken=foo and rvtoken=foo for a meta=tokens&type=foo type call.
HTH. Reedy (talk) 22:51, 1 August 2021 (UTC)
Thank you. Will have a look. --Krd 05:37, 2 August 2021 (UTC)
Regarding login sessions, unless they're explicitly invalidated, most should in theory last a year. The MediaWiki API has an assert framework, where you can pass assert=user or assert=bot... Or even assertuser=USERNAME to confirm you're logged in and such. As for reusing tokens, I think it may depend on the type of token... Reedy (talk) 15:57, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
hi and gudn tach!
as a side note: i'm now helping to maintain MediaWiki::Bot.
recently i released a new version 5.006004, where i fixed some bugs. if you need more adaption/improvements, i could try to help. furthermore i could try to help you in updating/migrating your scripts.
imho it might make sense if we put important and often used functions into MediaWiki::Bot. this would keep our bot code a bit cleaner and more maintainable. -- seth (talk) 21:40, 20 September 2021 (UTC)
This is good to know, but I fear I have to fix this now keeping the complete mess I have, and make the rewrite of everything a separate step. I get back to you as soon as possible. --Krd 08:14, 21 September 2021 (UTC)

Before being trigger happy and marking an image for deletion, maybe check the time stamp as to when it was uploaded. Copyright permission was already sent to permissions-commons 48 hours ago but its the weekend and they haven't had a chance to see it. The image hasn't even been used yet. Hi. Would you be amenable to coding a method of archiving COM:UDR if it were split into subpages? Please see the subject section.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:15, 4 August 2021 (UTC)

Yes. Perhaps not from one to to the next, but in general I think this will be possible. --Krd 16:05, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
That's great, but what do you mean by "from one to to the next"? I envision the subpages to be like DRs, but for undeletion.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 22:47, 4 August 2021 (UTC)
I mean even if may take only an hour to build that, it may be a week or two required to get a timeslot for that. Although I have very some active days currently, this changes from day to day for my current personal situation, and I cannot say in advance when I will have time and when not. Please let me know here as soon as this is ready for implementing and testing. --Krd 05:48, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
I envision individual requests of the form Commons:Undeletion requests/Example.jpg being transcluded into existing Commons:Undeletion requests/Current requests, and those transclusions being archived into the existing structure under Commons:Undeletion requests/Archive.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 08:44, 18 September 2021 (UTC)

Hi Krd!

A photo of the book cover itself does not have copyright due to TOO. The photographer cannot license it in the first place. Mys_721tx (talk) 19:09, 11 November 2021 (UTC)

Hello. I cannot follow. A photograph is a photograph and therefore copyrighted. The book cover is copyrighted, too. Am I mistaken? --Krd 19:46, 11 November 2021 (UTC)
No, any works below the threshold of originality do not have copyright on their own. The photographer cannot claim copyright for that photo precisely because the book cover is indeed copyrighted. . Mys_721tx (talk) 01:44, 12 November 2021 (UTC)

Would be happy to know why did you cancel ALL (yes, all) my photos that illustrated Gianni A. Sarcone work since he gave me the permission to use them for educational purpose. So that in the future I can be more aware what I should write or post on WP. It appears that Sarcone is the only visual artist without a portrait and without illustrations of his work. Do you think it is normal? Please, respond me in a calm and responsible manner. Thank you.

The permission sender clearly said that no commercial use will be allowed, so there was no permission achievable. It now appears they may have changed their mind, which is still under discussion. --Krd 08:29, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
The artist Gianni A. Sarcone (permission sender) never said that no commercial use will be allowed to WP, he just said that I (me) shouldn't sell the pictures of his work. That's a big difference. The odd thing is that these photos have been uploaded to wikimedia for years without creating any problem, quite the contrary. Some of the gif's you cancelled (Dynamic Müller Lyer, for instance) are of scientific interest and have been shown in many scientific magazines and social media. I just thought your readers / visitors would appreciate such an educational material. But apparently you have some obscure reasons to cancel in just one click (sic!) all the work I did to illustrate Sarcone's work. Reasons that apparently have little to do with copyrights and permission releases. Sarcone didn't deserve that, I am really sorry for him. Thank you --Ruotailfoglio 20:48, 18 December 2021 (UTC)
The options have been outlined to the permission sender, if they confirm the release the files will be restored. Absolutely no reason for any drama. --Krd 08:23, 19 December 2021 (UTC)
Please, keep cool, there is no drama at all! The world goes on with or without my pictures on WP. I was just surprised by your sibylline sentence dated December 17th : "NO (sic!) permission to be expected", which made me suspect that you have decided in advance that whatever I (or the permission sender) do, the images will not be restored. That's all... But maybe I misunderstood and you have an explanation for this strong unequivocal sentence. Thank you. Ruotailfoglio (talk) 15:09, 21 December 2021 (UTC)
I cannot follow at all where I have not been calm, but this doesn't have to be clarified. --Krd 15

I didn't ask you to clarify your mood, but your sentence "NO (sic!) permission to be expected". We (the permission sender and I) sent again all the permissions you requested dully certified and signed, still waiting an answer from you. Ruotailfoglio (talk) 00:09, 22 December 2021 (UTC)

Batch editing protected files (from 2021 archive)

I think one can guess what is happening, but they are not directly human readable. Note that these are one-liner python calls:

python3 commonsapiaddclaimsoauth.py -i "M3942539" -o "automatically modify structured data based on file information: date copyright license" -v "{\"claims\":[{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P571\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"time\":\"+2008-04-25T00:00:00Z\",\"timezone\":0,\"before\":0,\"after\":0,\"precision\":11,\"calendarmodel\":\"http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q1985727\"},\"type\":\"time\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"},{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P6216\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"entity-type\":\"item\",\"numeric-id\":50423863,\"id\":\"Q50423863\"},\"type\":\"wikibase-entityid\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"},{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P275\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"entity-type\":\"item\",\"numeric-id\":50829104,\"id\":\"Q50829104\"},\"type\":\"wikibase-entityid\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"},{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P275\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"entity-type\":\"item\",\"numeric-id\":14946043,\"id\":\"Q14946043\"},\"type\":\"wikibase-entityid\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"}]}"
python3 commonsapiaddclaimsoauth.py -i "M207328" -o "automatically modify structured data based on file information: date copyright license" -v "{\"claims\":[{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P571\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"time\":\"+2011-07-05T00:00:00Z\",\"timezone\":0,\"before\":0,\"after\":0,\"precision\":11,\"calendarmodel\":\"http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q1985727\"},\"type\":\"time\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"},{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P6216\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"entity-type\":\"item\",\"numeric-id\":50423863,\"id\":\"Q50423863\"},\"type\":\"wikibase-entityid\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"},{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P275\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"entity-type\":\"item\",\"numeric-id\":50829104,\"id\":\"Q50829104\"},\"type\":\"wikibase-entityid\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"},{\"mainsnak\":{\"snaktype\":\"value\",\"property\":\"P275\",\"datavalue\":{\"value\":{\"entity-type\":\"item\",\"numeric-id\":14946043,\"id\":\"Q14946043\"},\"type\":\"wikibase-entityid\"}},\"type\":\"statement\",\"rank\":\"normal\"}]}"

Please let me know if we can proceed this way. If this test is successful, I would send you a complete list of commands for all files. Thanks again for your proposal to help. --Schlurcher (talk) 12:01, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

First one finished, please check. Second one does not work, sadly without error message. Is there any way to make it more verbose? --Krd 12:31, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
Exit code 150. Interesting. Any idea what right is missing? --Krd 12:35, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
Ok, got it, please check. --Krd 12:45, 5 June 2021 (UTC)
Thanks for looking into this. The script is intentionally quiet, as I do the post-processing in a different language (I'm not very good in python). 600 more commands are here User:SchlurcherBot/Blocked if you may. I also added a sleep command after each one to space them out a bit. --Schlurcher (talk) 05:33, 6 June 2021 (UTC)
--Schlurcher (talk) 07:13, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
Perfekt. Krd 13:22, 8 June 2023 (UTC)
Hi, ich hab es gestern Abend doch geschafft knapp 50 weitere voll geschützte Dateien zusammenzustellen.
Der ganze Prozess wäre ähnlich wie zuvor:
 1. You would need to get oAuth login details for your account. This can be done by m:Special:OAuthConsumerRegistration/propose (using an owner-only consumers). In this step you can restrict the rights; as far as I see only basic rights and edit protected files is needed.
 2. Please save the python script from User:SchlurcherBot/commonsapiaddclaimsoauth in a file and please name the file to commonsapiaddclaimsoauth.py
 3. Add your oAuth login details generated in step 1 to Step 1: Login details from OAuth in the python script.
 4. Seach and replace each instance of "assert" : "bot" to "assert" : "user"
 5. Please make sure you have the dependencies installed from line 37-40.
The python script will contact the API and perform the SDC edit. All calls are given here: User:SchlurcherBot/Blocked
Krd 08:00, 10 June 2023 (UTC)
Alles klar, Danke nochmals.
--Schlurcher (talk) 12:11, 16 June 2023 (UTC)

Template:OTRS ticket

Hi, this template was under the radar! Template:OTRS ticket should be renamed Template:Ticket reference (or something like that), but modified as well, in order to have the ticket number as sole parameter (see talk page). it is possible to modify all the existent ticket by bot (replacing the ticket number, and using only the second parameter)? --Ruthven (msg) 15:19, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

I think we should replace most of them with Template:PermissionTicket at first and then see what remains. I think this template can perhaps be completely removed. --Krd 15:34, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
Or simply by the ticket:xxx link. --Krd 15:40, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
Mostly ✓ Done, but there are still a few transclusions that should or should not get fixed. --Krd 22:09, 14 December 2021 (UTC)
