How do I upload a picture Zeenatzeenat (talk) 21:25, 30 September 2018 (UTC)

Du Pre

Thanks for the help with JDP, but what did you mean about Alt+130?

Sardaka (talk) 11:13, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

@Sardaka: On a 101-key keyboard of a PC running Windows, with number lock in effect, while holding down the "Alt" key, one can type "130" on the numeric keypad and then release the "Alt" key, producing "é".   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:20, 2 October 2018 (UTC)

In fact, it was deleted two hours after you closed the undeletion request. --Discasto talk 22:52, 5 October 2018 (UTC)

@Discasto: Yes, it is a still from an unfree video.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 23:43, 5 October 2018 (UTC)
Sure, but the reason not to undelete was procedural (it hadn't been deleted yet). Thanks --Discasto talk 11:27, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
@Discasto: I will need convincing to change my mind about this, but you are welcome to request undeletion again. Pinging @Moheen as the twice deleting Admin.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:07, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
This video was originally uploaded on YouTube but not under a CC license. So there is no reason to restore. ~Moheen (keep talking) 14:55, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
@Moheen: Thanks.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:17, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

autoconfirmed/confirmation problem

Greetings, Before anything i'm appreciating your immediate response to my previous request. I found out that there is a problem with my account confirmation, i created this account a long ago but still this account is not confirmed, i'm trying to add a informative motion graphic to a page but to do this matter i need a confirmed account. thanks for your time and please respond to this as soon as possible. Raminmorph (talk) 05:48, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

@Raminmorph: As far as I can tell, you must be using Wikipedia Zero on your mobile device. Please try to upload your video files using a metered connection on your mobile device, such as WiFi connected to your home network or that of a store or internet cafe, or using your home computer. I don't think confirmation of your email address is involved. What sounds and images are in your files, and who holds the copyrights?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:30, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: that's weird because i'm uploading it on my PC which is connected to a metered connection and i believe this protocol is not functioning properly at this moment. Raminmorph (talk) 10:45, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
@Zhuyifei1999 and Steinsplitter: Can you shed any light on this in reference to Commons talk:Abuse filter#Raminmorph?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:10, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
The destination article does not exist, is the file in COM:SCOPE and in line with COM:L? Then i can add an expeption to users account. --Steinsplitter (talk) 13:09, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: destination article which i'm trying to upload the mentioned media on is: https://fa.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D8%B5%D8%B1%D8%B9, please send me the place to upload the video in order to check it, because when i try to upload it directly on wikipedia or UploadWizard this will make an error. Raminmorph (talk) 13:21, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) @Steinsplitter: The destination article (with interwiki link fa:صرع) exists, and is the Persian equivalent of en:Epilepsy. I can't comment on whether the file is in scope or properly licensed because I don't have the right to see that information, or even the filter number.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:24, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
That filter is blocking on file types. We can whitelist users with some user groups. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 02:27, 7 October 2018 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Greetings, i'm still having a problem with uploading this video, please inform me about the last status of this problem. Raminmorph (talk) 05:02, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
@Raminmorph: Sorry, according to newer information, you will need an advanced permission flag, such as confirmed, extended uploader, or autopatrolled.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 09:42, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Thanks for sharing this information with me, how can i acquire this permission in order to contributing and improving this wiki? Raminmorph (talk) 09:55, 9 October 2018 (UTC)
@Raminmorph: You could post in the appropriate section at COM:RFR.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 10:00, 9 October 2018 (UTC)

  • @Toufik M. Amara: Signing your posts on talk pages is required and it is a Commons guideline to sign your posts on deletion requests, undeletion requests, and noticeboards. To do so, simply add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your comments. Your user name or IP address (if you are not logged in) and a timestamp will then automatically be added when you save your comment. Signing your comments helps people to find out who said something and provides them with a link to your user/talk page (for further discussion). Thank you.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:21, 10 October 2018 (UTC)

OTRS user template

Hello, Jeff G.

I have a question regarding the following conversation (quote):

"OTRS permission before upload? How would this work? (topic from OTRS noticeboard) One follow up question, if the organisation sent an email to OTRS saying 'everything a specific user uploads from our collection is us uploading it' is that possible? Would you then give an OTRS number which they would add to every upload? John Cummings (talk) 14:26, 22 August 2018 (UTC) @John Cummings: Yes, that is possible, in which case we make a template for them (including PermissionOTRS), and they can then use that template on every applicable upload. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 14:49, 22 August 2018 (UTC)"

I'm planing to upload to Commons on weekly basis in addition to my current [list] and since the 150 day backlog I'm looking for a possible solution, how could I can get a "personal" OTRS template? Vasily Levanov (talk) 22:58, 12 October 2018 (UTC)

@Vasily Levanov: Please request one via OTRS.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 02:25, 13 October 2018 (UTC)

Status of the Wilmon Blackmar image

Hi, Jeff. Just wanted to check in to see whether or not it's possible to close the deletion request for the image of Wilmon W. Blackmar with a ruling that it will be "Kept". The deletion request was posted on September 30, but did not achieve a consensus of support. (My apologies in advance if you're not the correct person for me to contact about this issue, but I've never had to challenge anything like this before. If I should be reaching out to someone else, please advise.) As always, many thanks for the advice you've given over the past several months. Kind Regards. 47thPennVols (talk) 01:31, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

@47thPennVols: You didn't answer @Yann's good question "Why not use File:Civil War veteran Wilmon Whilldin Blackmar, LCCN2017659688 (cropped).jpg instead?", archived at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems/Archive 72#Request help with dispute regarding images of Wilmon W. Blackmar. Of course, the latter file could be cropped further to a bust or head shot, as appropriate.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:05, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
  • My apologies. I thought that @Yann's question was a suggestion, and didn't realize that it needed a reply. I had planned to add additional images to the article, but was waiting to see what happened with the final decision on the Worthington image of Blackmar before proceeding. (I had actually thought about cropping that image that Yann cropped, but Yann beat me to it, and did a better job of it than I likely would have. (Thank you, Yann.) I was thinking I would then replace the English Wikipedia article's current Blackmar head and shoulders image with that cropped image, and would then also retain the Worthington image, even though it's not the best quality, because it does help document the news coverage of his election as head of the Grand Army of the Republic. But, as I indicated above, I was waiting to see what the outcome of the deletion nomination would be.) Thank you for your guidance and help on this. 47thPennVols (talk) 16:18, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
@47thPennVols: Use of any Commons file in mainspace on a sister project over an extended period of time discounts claims of low quality and OOS. This is especially true when the sister project is the flag project English Wikipedia. Therefore, you should not wait to use this file.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:42, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: Thanks so much for the advice. I just revised the photos on the article. Have a great remainder of the week. 47thPennVols (talk) 16:47, 17 October 2018 (UTC)
@47thPennVols: You're welcome. It was kept by Yann at 12:11 UTC.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 17:13, 17 October 2018 (UTC)

Hey Jeff! How are you?

Sorry for the trouble with my signature. Is this one better? If you think the colors still need to be changed, or anything else, please let me know! Best regards, —Tks4Fish! talkcontribs 13:55, 18 October 2018 (UTC)

Film poster

Hello Jeff. I'm trying to upload film poster on wikipedia for an article about a film and i'm getting copyright violation messages. Please guide me on how to go about it. I've also mailed the OTRS to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Regards --Anuragkawatra (talk) 10:47, 24 October 2018 (UTC)Anuragkawatra

  • @Anuragkawatra: The file will be restored automatically when and if the email is received, processed, and approved. Note that OTRS, like Commons, is entirely staffed by volunteers, and, also like Commons, is shorthanded, so it may be close to 7 days before the email is processed and the file is restored.
If the message was sent to the English language version of OTRS and the email has been properly received there the sender will receive an automatic reply with the ticket number. If the sender has not had a reply, please check that it was sent correctly and try again. Other language versions may or may not provide the automatic reply.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:31, 24 October 2018 (UTC)

Hi Jeff G. Thought you might be interested in File:Tokyo 2020.png since it's come up for discussion in en:Wikipedia:Files for discussion/2018 October 25#File:Tokyo 2020.png. Also, if the logo is truly not {{PD-logo}} or PD for some other reason, then File:New 2020 Summer Paralympics Emblem.svg and perhaps even File:Tokyo tour (27344854598).jpg might need to be assessed as well. -- Marchjuly (talk) 07:39, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

@Marchjuly: Thanks for asking. I tagged all three for speedy deletion with explanations including "COM:CSD#G4 Recreation of content previously deleted per community consensus at Commons:Deletion requests/File:2020 Summer Olympics Logo.png."   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 11:03, 25 October 2018 (UTC)

File:Logo de Perú Posible.png

Hi Jeff G. The picture (File:Logo de Perú Posible.png) the copyright is not violated because I am the author of the image. If you look at the link that you put you will see that I am right because the ends of the horizontal line of the (T) in the image you make are closer to the ends and more inclined.
