How we will see unregistered users[edit]

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Hi, Infrogmation, Do you know of any photographs of the Free Church of the Annunciation that are in the public domain? This church is located at 4505 South Claiborne Avenue in New Orleans. Thanks! Nolabob (talk) 14:57, 9 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Top secret.png[edit]

Dear Infrogmation,

You deleted "Top secret.png" which has been in use on Dutch wiktionary for over 5 years. It is really difficult to discuss the arguments for deletion or find suitable replacements when the picture itself is no longer visible. If a picture is in use on a project it seems proper procedure to follow the normal request for deletion process. Would you be so kind as to undo the removal of this picture so we can have a look at it again? --MarcoSwart (talk) 13:17, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Proper procedure was followed. Deleted per Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Top_secret.png, listed for almost 2 months with no objection to deletion. Per linked listing at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Top secret.jpg, the images was apparently on Commons under false license claim. See Commons:Undeletion requests if you think the deletion was in error and have an argument why it should be restored. Thanks for your attention. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 16:44, 12 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

File help[edit]

Hi Infrogmation - I have a somewhat disruptive editor who keeps over writing this file with a completely different one. Nonexistent category[edit]

Not sure what you are up to here, but you added a nonexistent category. Is this part of some larger plan? - Jmabel ! talk 00:41, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I think I just added it to match similar "in Chicago", but you're right no such category tree is set up, and no, I wasn't in process of creating such. If you wish remove the vacant cat or substitute something more relevant as you see fit, all fine by me. Done. - Jmabel ! talk 02:19, 31 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I received a message from User:Pi.1415926535 saying that NARA TIF files should go into the above category. Apparently this is not a policy, but having done a great deal of categorizing I see the point of this "rule" now that my attention has been drawn to it. I noticed that you are not doing this (e.g. File:LAND DEVELOPMENT AT CUDJOE KEY, ONE OF A CLUSTER OF SMALL ISLANDS NEAR THE WESTERN TIP OF THE FLORIDA KEYS - NARA - 548631.tif) so I am consulting you about the issue. How do you feel? Best, Krok6kola (talk) 01:14, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I periodically look for uncategorized images of places and subjects I work on categorizing. I've noticed the "Category:NARA TIF images with categorized JPGs"; in principle I am neutral as to if this a good idea or not. However the NARA images I edited were also marked as uncategorized, so I categorized them. I was simply putting various uncategorized images into relevant categories. Hm, is "Category:NARA TIF images with categorized JPGs" considered an invalid category as to if an image is flagged as uncategorized? -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 03:33, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Because I was categorizing so many uncategorized images, User:Pi.1415926535 alerted me to that category which at the time was a hidden; now it is no longer hidden. The problems are various. One is that people often crop the Tif images; also the Tif and jpg images can end up in different categories. Also, some very large categories can be reduced by half or more by using this category, e.g. Category:World War II posters from the United States was reduced considerably. Category:Kings Canyon National Park as photographed by Ansel Adams could be cut in half as it contains both Tif and jpg, side by side. I'm just wondering if you have an objection to this. Krok6kola (talk) 20:22, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As I've said, I'm basically neutral about use of that category; I see advantages and disadvantages of doing it that way. However if images show up as "uncategorized", and they appear to be in-scope, I feel strongly that they should be categorized. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 20:38, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. And you wouldn't mind if I recategorized them then, I assume, as in the file memtioned above. That is the reason for my posting here. Thanks, Krok6kola (talk) 22:03, 6 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

New Orleans Arena → Smoothie King Center[edit]

Hello, I see the edits you are reverting. However, within conventional naming of sports arenas categories, the former name of the arena, in this case "New Orleans Arena", is not kept in tact and everything is transitioned over to the new name of the arena. The "New Orleans Arena" category should have been entirely merged with "Smoothie King Center" several years ago.--Astros4477 (talk) 02:38, 16 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rene Louapre Society Orchestra[edit]

Do you know of any photographs of the René Louapre Society Orchestra of New Orleans that are in the public domain? Or of Louapre himself? Also, recordings of the orchestra that are in the public domain would also be useful and interesting. The orchestra was for many years a really big deal in the Mardi Gras tradition. Hosting promotional content[edit]

Looking for images to illustrate "disinformation" articles, I keep getting offered File:Fake News (48708611322).jpg, which illustrates zero Wikipedia articles.

Wikimedia is not censored for naughty pictures but someone seems to be using it as free hosting and promotion. I removed some promo from a category but would welcome your advice if I did right or wrong here. Thanks! HouseOfChange (talk) 15:30, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

OK. Not sure why you're bringing that up on my talk page. I'm fine with your removal of the over long descriptive on that category. I suspect that was added since the whole category in addition to subsets and individual images were listed for deletion multiple times. Might (or might not) be relevant on talk page, but I agree it seemed overly promotional on the category page. Cheers. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:38, 8 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and sorry to bother you--I asked you because you have advised me in the past. Could you tell me how exactly is it a waste of wiki-resources?[edit]

I just prefer that you tell me how exactly is it a waste of wiki-resources when categorizing files or nominating problematic file (especially uploader's pattern is to use material he finds on facebook, news report online, government website, etc.) to COM:DR, and then I'll see where I doing something wrong.--Kai3952 (talk) 21:18, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I don't understand what you are asking. Categorizing in-scope files, and nominating for deletion copyright violations or clearly far out of scope media, are valuable tasks in Commons. Perhaps you can give me examples of what you're asking about? Wondering, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 21:26, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Possibly you misunderstood my reply at Commons:Help_desk#Do_you_think_categorizing_files_is_a_"waste_of_wiki-resources"? where I said "As to the heading question, I consider correctly categorizing files to be one of the most important and high value tasks on Wikimedia." To put put it more simply, no, I do not think categorizing files is a 'waste of wiki-resources'. I think it is valuable. Is that clearer? Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 21:43, 16 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Someone warned me early on that do not engage in a variety of behaviors that violated social norms in order to avoid being sanctioned by the Universal Code of Conduct (UCoC). Yevgeny vs Yegveny: Commons category has a typo, I think[edit]

"Yevgeny Prigozhin" is Russian; his first name Евгений is also sometimes spelled "Yevgeniy." The Wikimedia category about him, however, is Category:Yegveny Prigozhin. How to make dates for images[edit]

Hello,

I have tried and tried to copy the method of making dates for images, as you just did for July 1973 in Chicago. When I copy what others have done, it always turns out slightly wrong, sort of semi-right. Also, editors seem to use different ways to accomplish this. I see what you did for Chicago. What if the date is not a city? Krok6kola (talk) 00:29, 2 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't invent any of the original templates, I've just copied what others have done and changed the date and/or name as appropriate. For Category:July 1973 in Chicago if you look at the edit you'll see I used the "minx" template, useful for many things. For some events by year, for example Category:New_Orleans_Mardi_Gras_1999, look at the edit and you'll see I used the "decade years navbox" template. Those are both easy useful ones. Some editors make special templates for particular subjects, which is extra work, but some think it useful if one is going to be using it lots (for example Category:2020 in theatre uses a special template, which can be seen at the edits of Template:Theatreyear). Basically look to see how other categories are set up to see if you can adapt what is done to something you think would be useful. If in doubt, look at a model template history and ask the user who created or significantly modified the template for suggestions. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 01:19, 2 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for answering. As you can see, I'm not a technical person. I will try to study up on it more. It is helpful to learn there are many ways to accomplish the same thing. Just one more question, what does the "minx" template do here on the Commons? Krok6kola (talk) 19:08, 2 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Would you be willing to fix Category:February 1973 in Louisiana? Krok6kola (talk) 05:49, 6 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Changing license information without author's permission[edit]

Re [1] I ask you to please not change my licensing information without my explicit permission. I object to this very strongly. Thank you for your attention. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:12, 7 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, in preview "Warning: File:BigAlMichaelWhiteWaldenberb91.jpg (edit) is calling Template:Self with more than one value for the "migration" parameter. Only the last value provided will be used.". You will see that the license has not changed, "migration=opt-out" is duplicated. Gzen92 [discuter] 06:00, 8 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Again [2] DO NOT CHANGE MY LICENSE WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. I fought like hell long and hard for that "opt-out". As I've said repeatedly, I am often very happy to provide alternative licensing for my work IF ASKED. I do NOT consent to any changes made by third parties who do not ask. I object to this very strongly. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:17, 4 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I take files from Category:Pages using duplicate arguments in template calls in order. As I said before, if the argument is duplicated, only the second one is used (internal operation of the wiki). "{{self|GFDL|migration="opt-out"|cc-by-sa-3.0,2.5,2.0,1.0|migration=not-eligible}}" does not give the same display that "{{self|GFDL |migration="opt-out"|cc-by-sa-3.0,2.5,2.0,1.0}}". Try with "Show preview". The rendering is not the same. Gzen92 [discuter] 06:59, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
[3] indicate twice migration=opt-out is useless. And be careful, the result is different from migration="opt-out", what i find strange. Gzen92 [discuter] 08:17, 5 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Category:Postcards of Louisiana[edit]

Hello Infrogmation, yesterday you delete my little work at this postcard File:Sabine Pass Lighthouse postcard.jpg. I work for c:COM:WPPC. I create in the last days the subcategories under c:Category:Postcards of Texas by county and sort there all postcards. In this Texas-category I found also this lighthouse postcard. And create fast this Category:Postcards of Cameron Parish, Louisiana. Later I see there are no counties in Louisiana. Sorry, I live in Germany and I don't know this.. So now I will create c:Category:Postcards of Louisiana by parish‎ and sort all postcards from Louisiana. Is this ok for you? --sk (talk) 08:18, 14 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Good day. I didn't see much point in having a category for a single postcard while the rest of the category tree didn't exist. If you wish to categorize Louisiana postcards by parish (while I don't see a *need* for parishes with only one or two postcards), I have no objection, go ahead if you wish. Useful to know: Orleans Parish and the City of New Orleans are legally the same, so no need to make a separate category for Orleans Parish (though you could make a redirect to Postcards of New Orleans if you wanted). Thanks for your work and attention. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 16:42, 18 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your info. I will create the categories in the next days. At the moment I am a little busy. Yes at the moment we have sometimes only one image in a category, but in the future we will have more postcards of Louisiana and then we can better find this images. --sk (talk) 17:24, 19 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? The idea is to let the public judge the sound logo contestants based on the merit of the logo, not the person or people who made it. Again, any feedback is appreciated.

Deleted image of Leslie Hendricks[edit]

Hello, I uploaded a photo of the Quintana Roo politician Leslie Hendricks Rubio and this was deleted despite her campaing giving me permission to use it for articles via Twitter and this being uploaded before its use in the preliminary results (https://prep2022qroo.mx/escritorio/gubernatura/evd), I'd like to know the real reason this image was deleted and if you could either recover it or give me permission to repost it for new articles. Hello. Pardon, I did not see permission information on the photo page. (Note that we unfortunately have new users who improperly upload images from Twitter without permission of the copyright holder.) To avoid such problems please be sure to include information of free license permission from the copyright holder when uploading any photo you did not photograph yourself. If there is not a web link explicitly stating permission, see Commons:VRT for information on emailing 3rd party permission so it will be on record. I'll take another look at your previous upload shortly. Thanks for your attention. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 21:22, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Looking more: The image you uploaded which I deleted did not have any information about permission. Thank you for contacting them for permission, but note that the copyright holder needs to agree not just to allow reuse, but to some specific free license, for example cc-by-sa-4.0 which you tagged the photo with but was not specified in your conversation. That needs to be specified, as Wikimedia Commons requires free licenses. I hope this helps you going forward. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 21:27, 18 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I have deleted the discussion images - having read them. As you said they were not for article use. If you have gotten permission from the copyright holder for the Leslie Hendricks Rubio photo to be free licensed, do send it to VRT. About the mass deletion: FSL files uploaded by Yug[edit]

This is regarding to the files that you deleted on the following link: Commons:Deletion requests/FSL files uploaded by Yug.
The point is that on the following link: Commons:Deletion requests/Files uploaded by Yug, there is another mass deletion of files which present a similar problem. So could you delete them too? or else please left your vote, thank you. FanNihongo (talk) 03:36, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

🙁, It seems you won't intervene, well thank you anyway, have a nice day. FanNihongo (talk) 04:11, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
If there is open deletion discussion, and the image is not a blatant copyright violation requiring deletion as soon as possible, I seldom see need to rush. It looks like discussion is already in the appropriate place where if can get attion, and if admin action is needed, any of the aprox 200 admins on Commons can take it. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 16:20, 22 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

McKenna Museums, NOLA[edit]

Hi, Infrogmation. I'm continuing to work on various New Orleans-related projects for the Wikipedia and its sister projects. Do you know of any photos in the public domain related to the McKenna Museums? These include the McKenna Museum of African-American Art, located at 2003 Carondelet Street, and the Museum of Free People of Color, located at 2336 Esplanade Avenue? Both of these are in New Orleans. Unfortunately, I won't be traveling to NOLA anytime soon. Nolabob (talk) 21:25, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, no I haven't photographed either of them as such, and from a quick look don't seem to have any views of them in general streetscape pix. I'll see if I can get by them sometime in the next couple weeks, circumstances permitting; I'll let you know if I do. Thanks for your great work on articles! Red beans & ricely, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 22:49, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, Infrogmation, as long as you are going out to that neck of the woods to take photographs, I'd like to add one other request - 820 Elysian Fields Avenue. This is a creole townhouse designed and built by creole architect Jean-Louis Dolliole. I currently have a Wikipedia article in my sandbox about Dolliole, and I think a photograph of that townhouse would add to the article. Thank you as always. Nolabob (talk) 11:37, 30 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I was able to take some shots of all 3 today. I expect to be able to have them uploaded within a day or two if not sooner; I'll let you know. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 21:34, 8 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Kindly change the name (move) of the file.[edit]

Hi buddy, I would request you to kindly change the name of File:Governor of Jharkhand Draupadi Murmu in December 2016.jpg to Draupadi Murmu or President Murmu or something relatable. Because she is now the President Of The Republic Of India. I have changed the image to the official portrait of the President and have also made the changes in the info of the page. Kindly change the title/name of the page to make it clear to the larger audience. I shall be highly obliged. JaggaDaaku (talk) 06:00, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Infrogmation JaggaDaaku (talk) 06:01, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You seem to have more knowledge as to what an appropriate name would be - But I will suggest leaving out a title, since those change with time, maybe the person's name and the date of the photo. Please tag the photo with {{Rename}}, including what you think should be the appropriate new name. Then I or any other admin could approve the name move. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 14:53, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@JaggaDaaku: It also looks like you uploaded a different photo over the existing photo - Don't do that. If it is a different photo, upload it under a new name. Thanks. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 18:18, 28 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Infrogmation, Thank you for correcting me. I won't upload a different photo over an existing one from now. On the other hand, Don't you think you sound a little rude/authoritative with the very first line of your reply. (You seem to have.......). I just made a request which you could have turned down with a valid reason as you did in the later part of your reply. Just told what I felt. No grudges. Cheers, JaggaDaaku (talk) 17:36, 4 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • No rudeness intended, sorry if it sounded that way. As to "authoritative"... Well, I'm an admin and long time active user - I make no pretense to be some ultimate authority, but I generally do have a better grasp of Wikimedia Commons policies and procedures than most newer users. Always a learning experience for all of us in this project! If you have questions, Commons:Welcome has some good info and links, and if you can't find the answer there, ask! • Not off hand. Note that US publications from before 1927 are public domain, so if primary sources are identified there should be some. (I have a few other things I'm working on now - I can add that on my list to hunt for, but you're researching him, you might find some sooner.) Please allow some time for discussion before you rush to deletion. You state that "With a few exceptions (eg early work created in and published in USA in 1910s) Duchamp's works remain under copyright until 70 years after his death." This is a vast over-simplification not founded on facts. Duchamp lived in New York for much of his life, including when Tu m' was created in 1918. Many of his works could have been first published in the U.S., and I doubt anyone has facts immediately on hand to determine that. For example, the first publication of this painting that I've found so far was in the La Boîte-en-valise, and the readily available sources are unclear as to whether it was published in Paris or New York. More research is needed before jumping to conclusions. Toohool (talk) 02:33, 27 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I got my hands on some more sources, including a catalogue raisonne of Duchamp's work that lists 2 earlier publications that reproduced this painting, both published in France (an article in Minotaure magazine in 1934 and the Dictionnaire abrégé du surréalisme in 1938), so it seems that France really is the country of origin for this particular work. So deletion is the right outcome. Toohool (talk) 03:48, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

LaPlace, Louisiana[edit]

Thank you for thinking of me in advance of your outing to LaPlace and for your positive feedback about my Wikipedia writing. I don't have any specific projects in mind related to LaPlace. One thing that comes to mind has to do with nearby Norco, Louisiana. Its Wikipedia page has not much photographs. Maybe a few photos related to Norco, if that's not inconvenient? Thanks! Nolabob (talk) 10:47, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion. I see I took 2 of the 4 photos we have of Norco, back in 2009. Time and circumstances permitting, I'll try to take a drive around Norco on my way back from LaPlace - with luck I might be able to more than double our media collection. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 17:40, 28 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Got a few good pics of LaPlace. Some uploaded, more to come. Alas there was a very unpleasant odor as we passed through Norco, and my traveling companion said we shouldn't linger, to which I agreed. Some other time perhaps. -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 16:00, 1 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Mount Olivet Cemetery question[edit]

Infrogmation, I believe you uploaded most if not all of the photographs of the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Gentilly. I have learned that the "Arabian Plot" tomb in that cemetery is particularly distinctive. Do you know if any of the photos in the Commons are of that particular plot. You can read a description at this link. Thank you! Nolabob (talk) 21:00, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry I don't know. I'm not very familiar with the cemetery, other than that one day when an appointment nearby was rescheduled I decided to fill time by taking a bunch of photos. I thought I covered the cemetery fairly well, but as I was strolling at random may well have missed something important. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 21:11, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ozanam Inn[edit]

Infrogmation, Do you know of any public domain photographs of NOLA's Ozanam Inn? I'm working on a couple of Wikimedia projects pertaining to the Ozanam Inn and its one-time director Deacon Rudy Rayfield, and I'd like to have suitable photographs for those. Many thanks as always for all you've done documenting NOLA's people, history, and culture. Nolabob (talk) 11:08, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

We have three pix of the old facilities on Camp Street - may not have shown up on your search since, oops, I misspelled as "Oznam" (which is how it often sounds when spoken). File:CampStOznamInnSept2008.jpg, File:CampStOznamInnSept2008B.jpg, File:Camp St NOLACBD Oznam Inn.JPG. I don't have any of their new facilities on Poydras; I'll try to take a couple (looks like I'd have to go to Old Poydas and photograph it from across the lot). -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 15:27, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Great! Thank you! I might create a new Commons category for these and any new uploads you do of Ozanam in the coming weeks as this mini-project continues. Nolabob (talk) 16:54, 20 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Files for Wikisource[edit]

Hi Infrogmation, I'd like to ask for your help. I have found that illustrations from a donated book (volumes 1, 2, 3, 4) were being deleted. You can see the file names at Wikisource. Is it possible to restore these? Thanks, Joofjoof (talk) 05:05, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I am not an admin on Wikisource (and have not participated there much, so I'm not very familiar with their procedures). Looking at the list, it seems the files were deleted as copyright violations. Most of the deletions I see were done by User:Ellin Beltz and User:Fastily. You might ask them. If you think the deletions for copyright violation were incorrect, or if the copyright has expired between when the files were deleted and now, you could list them at Commons:Undeletion requests. I hope this is of at least some help in pointing you in useful directions. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 17:12, 27 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Gatorland Zoo alligator statue, Route 1, St. Augustine, Florida (LOC).jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

U.S. Route 1 vs. U.S. Business Route 1 in St. Augustine, Florida[edit]

Many of the images that I categorized as being along Category:U.S. Route 1 in St. Johns County, Florida approaching Category:U.S. Route 1 Business (St. Augustine, Florida), were actually taken along US 1. and not the Business Route, which is why I had to revert your edits to those images. ----DanTD (talk) 04:28, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

About one of your images.[edit]

Hi, @Infrogmation: . Please be civil. In this revision, (https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Lakeview16May06G.jpg&oldid=698884184), you got a bit angry about the automatic relicensing procedure. You licensed your image under GFDL-1.2 or any later version. The reason images you are automatically being switched to cc by sa 3.0 is that when GFDL-1.3 was released, it had a clause (clause 11) that stated that any MMC (Which is what all Wikipedia projects are; "Massive Multiauthor Collaboration Site") could relicense any GFDL work under cc by sa 3.0 . Therefore, it was legally allowed to re-license your image under cc by sa 3.0 .

Of course, you opted out, which is totally fair and allowed. But I'm just saying; it was legally allowed for your image to be relicensed under cc by sa 3.0, and it's not "fraud". Also, please avoid writing your edit summaries/edits in full caps.

Thank you, Matr1x-101 (talk) 21:16, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your comments. Yes, I lost my temper a bit as I thought this issue was resolved years ago (after long frustrating struggle on my end). As I've said in earlier discussion, if it is "legal", it is so only by a technicality - rather like fine print in a contract being used by one party to get an outcome completely contrary to what the other party was quite sure they were agreeing to. I consider any changing of licenses on my works which I did not agree to as dishonest and fraudulent - if not the latter in actual legal terms, at the very least extremely disrespectful to authors who have contributed work and effort to the project. I'll also take this chance to yet again repeat what I've said many times: I'm generally amenable to expanding license options for my work IF ASKED. (In my aprox 18 years on Commons I've only been asked a few times, regarding individual images by 3rd party potential reusers, never by anyone in Wikimedia.) I DO NOT give permission for anyone to reuse my work under terms that I have not personally agreed to. Some earlier discussion here. If there is anything you think needs more discussion or clarifying on my part, feel free to ask. Cheers, -- Infrogmation of New Orleans (talk) 21:42, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2 Pictures from User:Jjjmmm5151[edit]

Hello, I'm staff of Wikimedia Taiwan. Thank you for deleted File:陽明山上的海芋.jpg. However, the user had another two deletion request with similar reason,Commons:Deletion_requests/File:陽明山.jpg & Commons:Deletion_requests/File:陽明山擎天崗.jpg ,are ignored. Would you please delete these two picture also?

These three pictures were uploaded via upload wizard of Wiki loves Earth in Taiwan this year. File:陽明山.jpg had won the competition, but be withdrawn because the picture is printed on some other website with a different name of author. The user explained that these three pictures are not what they really want to upload; this might be some technical error. It does not sound like a reasonable explanation, but based on the user's active pursuit of solutions, I chose to believe.

So please delete the other two pictures and let the mistake be fixed. Thank you. Reke (talk) 04:13, 8 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
