Deleted pictures of Teresa Sousa painting and engravings

Hi,

I noticed that you deleted my mother painting "Anunciação" and engravings "Barcos" and "Grupo". The pictures are from unique works I own, and I, my brother and my father gave permission to the pictures to be in Commons. There are no links to the pictures on the internet, as my mothers's webpage is still in construction.

I sent our permission declaration to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. I expected that pictures were authorized by the Commons administrators, but I got no answer to the declaratino mail, and the pictures were deleted. Without pictures, my mother's wiki page doesn't make sense, as she was a respected painter and engraver in her time and the pictures are good examples of her work.

Before you delete the pictures, I should read the text on Wikipedia and see the good references stated there about my mother's work.

Best regards,João Sousa Carvalho (talk) 00:30, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

If you've sent an email to COM:OTRS, the images can be restored once the permission is processed. You can ask about this at Commons:OTRS/Noticeboard. INeverCry 00:46, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

OTRS Ticket # 2012121210000119: Question about two images that were deleted as having no permission

Both File:The Black Falcon Oil Tank.jpg and file:Ian Barry The Falcon Ten Studio.jpeg were deleted by you as having no permission but the uploader cites on the file description pages of both images that they are the author of the image. There is an email filed under ticket # 2012121210000119 that requests undeletion of the image but I am not sure about what information I need to verify before restoring the image. Thank you for your time, MorganKevinJ(talk) 23:35, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

According to the EXIF of File:The Black Falcon Oil Tank.jpg, the author and copyright holder is Case Simmons. This should apply to both images since both were uploaded by the same user and claimed as own work. We need to verify that the uploader is in fact Case Simmons. INeverCry 23:57, 8 February 2013 (UTC)
I have confirmed the the uploder is in fact Case Simmons by matching the email address to the contact address listed on his web site and have restored and tagged the images, Thank you for your help, MorganKevinJ(talk) 01:19, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi INeverCry!

I have seen that you have deleted the file listed above. You are right that the image can be found on the site you have stated. But User:Makele-90 says that he can bring a permission for a free use. I will handle this case and push it to OTRS - if you agree. Regards, High Contrast (talk) 09:06, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

I trust your judgement. INeverCry 21:42, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

File:Topless Barcelona.jpg - request to reconsider your closure

You closed the deletion request for File:Topless Barcelona.jpg as a "keep", citing Russavia's blurring of faces as an acceptable solution to the consent issues arising from the image having been taken in Spain. We do not have the necessary consent from the subjects to use this image as uploaded and I do not believe that blurring faces removes the need for that consent. Lacking consent, we should never have hosted this image in the first place and would not have been able to alter it to its current form. I think this is patently obvious, but before I open a wider discussion, I would like to give you an opportunity to reverse your closure. Thanks. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 18:58, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi DC. I appreciate your concerns, but I made that closure by consensus, and so I have to decline to reverse it. INeverCry 22:13, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Pls remove File mover rights from me

Dear Admin INEverCry,

Thank you for granting me file mover rights. However, a few of my file mover requests in the past have been rejected by other file movers (one or two renamers thought the existing image file title was sufficient apparently)--or they renamed the file to a slighly different image title than I suggested...which is fine with me. I became a trusted user here because I formally applied for this right and everyone agreed that I was up to the task. I feel I need more experience on requesting file renaming rights and when I am ready I will apply for a file renaming right request.

I think it would be unfair to receive this right at present without formally asking for it in the first place since I really need to gain more experience here anyway. So, I kindly ask that you please remove the file mover rights from me at present. I hope that you understand. Thank You from Canada, --Leoboudv (talk) 00:31, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

Why was this deleted? This is my own work which I made myself? Furthermore why wasn't I notified before the deletion? Your summary of "Copyright violation" is false, because again it is my own use! — DivaKnockouts (talk) 01:11, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

Sorry, my mistake. I've restored the file. I've semi-protected the file so that the IP can't re-tag it. INeverCry 01:51, 10 February 2013 (UTC)
Thank you very much!! — DivaKnockouts (talk) 02:34, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

This user actually uploaded a few files before anyone noticed they may be copyvio. I don't think any warnings were sent. You have tagged his talk page indicating that he was warned though.--Canoe1967 (talk) 03:28, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

The tag I used, {{End of copyvios}}, is a standard tag placed on talkpages after several copyvios have been uploaded. The tag doesn't indicate previous warnings, it indicates previous instructions. These instructions are contained in the copyvio tags placed by User:Alanscottwalker and User:Ukexpat prior to my warning. INeverCry 03:57, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks. It makes sense now.--Canoe1967 (talk) 05:24, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

Can you tell me where I can see discussion "Commons:Deletion requests/File:Allied Force header.jpg" ? --Matrek (talk) 03:57, 10 February 2013 (UTC)

I don't quite know what you're asking. I've linked the DR above. This DR was closed/deleted after being uncontested for 1 week. One of the files used in the collage, File:NATO with Kosovo refugees.jpg, was deleted, and so that file must be replaced in the collage in order to have the collage image hosted on Commons. Eduardo Lopes

Hello,
I created a work with paint.net based on a photo of my uncle Eduardo Lopes and you deleted it. Now I can not upload it again. What may I do?
Eduardo Lopes — Preceding unsigned comment added by Seigokanportugal (talk • contribs) 18:35, February 10, 2013‎ (UTC)

The image was deleted as coming from http://ciclismodeportugal.blogspot.de/2012/08/ciclistas-portugueses-de-z-dos-anos.html. You indicate that the photo was taken in 1938. Who was the author? When did he die? Who owns the copyright of the image now? OTRS permission from the author/copyright holder may be needed before the file can be restored. INeverCry 03:35, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
You also have the option of filing an undeletion request concerning this or any other file you don't think should have been deleted. INeverCry 04:13, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Dear NeverCry,
The source of the photo of my uncle, Eduardo Lopes, was the portuguese newspaper "O Século", already closed. And the author is already dead, of course. Even my uncle, is deceased. I have the original one. The photo in the blog you claim (http://ciclismodeportugal.blogspot.de/2012/08/ciclistas-portugueses-de-z-dos-anos.html), is a matter a fact a Copyright Violation of the source, not the mine. I worked the photo on paint.net, because the original was not very good. Wikipedia is a JOKE. Has no credibility. While you delete important files to increase the quality of serious articles, you maintains articles with any credibility. It is a CHILD'S joke.
Thanks.
Best Regards,
Eduardo Lopes

Copyvios

I've marked the last three contribs at http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/Danielpm_87 as copyvios after finding the originals that were published one or two years older on the web. I'm guessing there are more but I'm short on time, so thought I would drop it by for a further look. When I find 3 out of 3, I don't have a lot of hope for the rest. Dennis Brown (talk) 15:10, 9 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks Dennis. I tagged most of the rest as copyvios. INeverCry 22:10, 9 February 2013 (UTC)
I rather like treating you like I get treated at enwp, hit and run errands for the admin. ;-) You might keep an eye on SPI at enwp, btw, as we get some socks that are just uploading images over here. That is one of the ways I think having dual adminship can help both wikis. Obviously, that doesn't require a block here, but it is a good heads up that we might have a shared problem. Even if you don't really get involved there blocking, it is informative. The IRC channel is helpful for that as well, since a bot reports all changes at SPI. Deletion of File:DAS logo.jpg from Commons

Dear Sir/Madam, On 8th Febm you deleted the above image from Commons because I had not supplied necessary documentation of proof of copyright transfer as of 26th Jan. On 7th Feb, I sent a mail to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org with written permission to use File:DAS logo.jpg on Wikipedia. I have tried without success to reupload the image. Could you please provide assistance in un-deleting the image from Commons or allowing me to reupload? I am a new contributor to Wikipedia and am unable to find the correct procedure. Thank you. Files from State of Florida

Hi. You speedy deleted File:FlStMarksRise.jpg and File:FlSunSprings.jpg as copyvios. What about {{PD-FLGov}} that says: "This work was created by a government unit of the U.S. state of Florida and is in the public domain under Florida law."? --MGA73 (talk) 17:45, 3 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi Michael. I've asked Ron, who nominated these, to take a look at this. INeverCry 20:37, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
They come (along with 90 odd others) from en-wiki. I started to delete the ones on en-wiki as "now commons" - however the two I nominated (and others) did not have that template assigned to them - it just said {{PD-author|State of Florida}}, with no link to to any permission, the only link being the source PDF. I downloaded all 677 pages of that PDF, which shows nothing about permission, so I went back to the parent site of the PDF, which gave a page with a copyright link, that gives a copyright notice saying "non-commercial". I've started a discussion on en-wiki (so we can involve the original uploader) at en:Wikipedia:Possibly_unfree_files/2013_February_2#File:FlSilverGlenSprings.jpg - probably best to let that run it's course - if it's decided that the template is wrong and needs to be changed to {{PD-FLGov}}, then we can sort out the commons images in the same way, and properly delete the en-wiki images as "now commons".  Ronhjones  (Talk) 22:42, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
Okay lets see. I guess they should not have been speedy deleted then but send to a DR ;-) --MGA73 (talk) 18:55, 5 February 2013 (UTC)
Result of the deletion request on en-wiki was Delete. All the en-wiki images have been deleted. So I will put up the same deletion request on commons. I'll just nominate one page for now, and add a list of the others. I'll add the page here when I'm done.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 19:38, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

Missing Perm

Hi - just wondering why this one was okay? Seems like it was uploaded from a fully copyrighted page with no evidence of permission. Did I miss something? Thanks.  7  07:05, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

The source website has a free license indicated in the bottom left corner. INeverCry 07:08, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
Thanks - totally missed the CC icon, because I had seen the (c) notice at the bottom right, "© 2008 - 2013 Henry D'Andrea"... how to interpret the conflicting messages?  7  07:12, 12 February 2013 (UTC)
He can assert copyright under the CC license. This just means that re-users have to respect his copyright by complying with the requirements of that license. INeverCry 07:22, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

On 8th Feb 2013 you told me to send permissions to OTRS, which I did immediately. However the file remains deleted - Kindly advise as to reason why ASAP. --Johnvedwards (talk) 09:36, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I notice that you have make a mistake about claiming a copyright violation in this image. The image was upload from an original archive in august 2012 by User:Mabel Velástegui (she is the author). The site NTN24 have copied the image from Wikipedia (they have published the image in february 2013 http://www.ntn24.com/noticias/candidato-de-derecha-pide-que-74867). Please, can you revert the erase of the image? --Sageo (talk) 05:51, 11 February 2013 (UTC)

The original deletion reason was incorrect, but after looking at the image again, I noticed that the EXIF says the author and copyright holder is XAVIER CUESTA, 9/10/2011. We need permission from the copyright holder to be sent to COM:OTRS before the file can be restored. INeverCry 07:30, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
She explain us in the article about the person that Xavier Cuesta was the owner of the camera long time ago, years before the picture was taken by the new owner of the camera (Mabel Velastegui, a journalist) at november 2011. That is the reason she has the original picture as metadata prove (she told us that even she has more graphical material but one of her cameras show the name of Cuesta). What to do in this case of confusion? She has always give original pictures to Commons and I don't have doubts about her honesty. --Sageo (talk) 09:45, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
I've asked an OTRS member/fellow administrator to take a look at this. INeverCry 21:08, 11 February 2013 (UTC)
Update: Can you please have her send an email to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org and have her put "FAO Harry Mitchell" in the subject line? This is the person I asked about it. He'll try to help get this figured out. INeverCry 18:17, 12 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi. I talked with Xavier Cuesta. As he appears as copyrights holder in the metadata, both decided that he'll write to Commons a concede to Public Domain for all the photos that I uploaded. He already send the mail to that direction in OTRS. Is that enough to restore this image? --Mabel Velástegui (talk) 17:20, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

So now, the image will be undeleted? --Sageo (talk) 21:50, 13 February 2013 (UTC)
Hi. As soon as OTRS processes the email, they'll restore the image. @Mabel Velástegui - I noticed that several of your early uploads also have the Xavier Cuesta EXIF. You'll probably want to mention, or have Xavier mention any of your uploads from that camera to OTRS so that you can get an OTRS ticket covering all of them, so no one tags them as copyvios in the future. INeverCry 00:15, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
In the mail Xavier concedes to Public Domain all the photos what I uploaded to Commons. Is possible to know if the mail have been received? Guillermo Lasso is presidential candidate for the elections of this weekend in Ecuador and I'm worried that my graphic work don't be useful for Wikipedia accurately in this time. --Mabel Velástegui (talk) 01:23, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
OTRS is very busy, so it sometimes goes a bit slowly. Did you put "FAO Harry Mitchell" in the subject line of your OTRS email? If not, you might ask User:HJ Mitchell about it and see if he can get it handled quicker. He's the OTRS member/admin I originally asked about this. INeverCry 01:51, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
:Hi. There any news about this? --Mabel Velástegui (talk) 18:56, 17 February 2013 (UTC)
Hi Mabel. I wish I could help further, but it's now a matter of getting the OTRS permission handled, which I have no access to. I see you've asked HJ as well, so hopefully this will get resolved very soon. INeverCry 19:03, 17 February 2013 (UTC)

Take a look at the wiki page, before fixing the page here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:High_Pressure.jpg Thanks.--Earth100 (talk) 05:10, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

The page has been full protected for a year due to edit warring, which you were involved in. I had no problem removing your added text which included your name, but any further changes to the image/description will have to be proposed and discussed on the talk page of the image. Any questions about the protection should be directed to User:Denniss. INeverCry 07:36, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Deleted ALF advertisements part 2

I asked 28 January 2013 if the photos File:ALF Products Rock Star ad.jpg and File:ALF Products Craftsman ad.jpg could be undeleted, and you responded that they would be restored once the COM:OTRS forms I emailed 21 January 2013 were processed, which could take "2 or 3 weeks sometimes". It's been 4 weeks. What does it take to get them undeleted? Differtus (talk) 06:04, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Troll problem

Hello, INeverCry

I hope I am not bothering you but I think we have a troll problem. An IP user is trolling File talk:Windows logo and watermark - 1985.png, File talk:Windows logo and watermark - 1985.svg and Commons talk:Deletion requests/File:Windows logo and watermark - 1985.svg. (Apparently, he is trying to make belief that Windows 1.0 logo is fake, even though I added two sources.) He is probably using a fake signature too.

Is there anything that can be done? Best regards, Codename Lisa (talk) 11:38, 15 February 2013 (UTC)

I've semi-protected the 2 files. The talkpage editing is ok as long as the editor doesn't make personal attacks, etc. Hopefully, this can be talked over and settled on the talkpages. I've left a note on the latest IP's talk. If you have more problems with this user, you might consider posting at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems. INeverCry 19:07, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
Hello
Thanks for locking the files and following the "discuss before change" guideline. However, I find the act of renaming the file somewhat in opposition to this guideline. You see, while I have supplied a source that puts this image a genuine Windows logo (in fact, three) these people propose that it is fake, "proposed but unused", "imaginary/fantasy", "reimagined", etc without providing an evidence. I believe the renaming should have waited until such evidence is supplied. And there is something funny too: An image cannot at the same time be "Proposed but unused" and "reimagined". (This is what the combination of file name plus description page suggesting.)
In fact, it would have been great if you have reverted the rename because of the ripple effect in Wikipedia. People will see the rename as a confirmation of non-genuineness and I will have a hell of time contacting each and telling them the result of the consensus.
Best regards,
Codename Lisa (talk) 22:27, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
I've reverted the rename and switched to full-protection on both files. INeverCry 23:04, 15 February 2013 (UTC)
I am not a troll and if Codename Lisa could have just done a tiny check they would have seen how silly their action is. It is beyond belief that Microsoft hid their logo for Windows for 25 years or noone recorded it. Anyway I await the outcome at the Admin desk. Dmcq (talk) 07:21, 16 February 2013 (UTC)

Codename Lisa, I would like to point out to you that calling people 'Troll' is not polite regardless of whether they are right or wrong in their discussions. In this case, it appears the people calling the logo fake are actually quite correct and you're the one who is mistaken. (update the logo is from the '80s) Penyulap 11:10, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi INeverCry, would you consider unlocking the file now there are proper sources and everyone is happy. The sources are mentioned on the file talkpage, they found some scans of manuals from the period, previously it was put down to some guy's blog, which gave no source. Teresa Sousa

You marked for deletion my mother's (Teresa Sousa) works pictures and they were deleted because there were no permission. I sent the permission almost a month ago (on the 22nd January) to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org and I got no answer. The pictures are new, as they were never realesed in the internet, so there are no links. What must I do to get the pictures back on Teresa Sousa's page in Wikipeida?

Advice on Flickr images

Hi INeverCry, I'm looking for some guidance, and you seem to be a knowledgeable and reputable admin. I found what appear to promotional images on Flickr.com from user AsianIdolsNetwork under a cc license, a handful of which are of en:Akiho Yoshizawa, (she is on the list of adult actress articles needing an image). Is there any way I can find out if they are reputable (i.e. do they have the rights to publish these images or is it just a fan?). I want to figure this out before uploading them, so as to avoid uploading copyvios to the Commons. Any help / guidance / advice would be great, Thank you! Nicoli Maege (talk) 15:51, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi Nicoli. According to this Flickr user's profile, they're the webmaster for http://www.asianidols.net/ which looks to have been dead since 2010. Considering the number of images in that Flickr stream and the webmaster detail, I'd say the account is probably legit, and these are images distributed for promotional purposes. I don't have much experience with Flickr images though, so you might want to get more opinions on this at Commons:Help desk. INeverCry 19:45, 19 February 2013 (UTC)

Wrong deletion of files

With respect to the following deletion request:

Please take a look here:

Deletion log, image of Arup Roy

This picture was taken by me on a digital camera. I suggest a review on this item. I was unable to respond to the deletion request due to time issues. Please do respond.

Deletion log, image of Koneenica Banerjee

This file was taken by me on a mobile camera.

For both the above files, I can produce the original image from which the crop was done. In the second picture, you can find me posing next to the actress in question.

The file:

Deletion log, my image

is my picture and featured only on my talk page. I am okay with this deletion, if this picture violates any wikipedia policy. Since, the image was on my namespace I guess it did not violate any wikipedia policy. The image was taken by me on a cell phone camera.

Again, this picture:

https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Log&type=delete&page=File:John_Abraham_%28actor%29.jpg

was uploaded by me a long time back, as far as I remember, I did not claim this to be my own work. This was licenced with CC, an open source license, on a website, the URL of which, I had provided alongwith. I have other images from the given website.

Unfortunately, your deletion seems to have been "out of process" and without any prior discussion, and it's possible that some of your assumptions were wrong (it's definitely possible to have a depiction of a coat of arms first granted in 1953 without causing any copyright problems). I would be interested in seeing your reasoning explained. AnonMoos (talk) 19:12, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

It wasn't out of process. It was a CSD tagged by another user. The reasoning is in the rationale. If this is wrong, let me know and I can restore it. INeverCry 19:21, 20 February 2013 (UTC)

Mass file deletion

Dear INeverCry,

I am writing to address the issue of User:Takabeg mass-nominating Azerbaijan-related media for deletion, which does not get properly reviewed, as they get deleted based on his clearly nationalist agenda-motivated comments. While I understand that copyright violation is a highly sensitive issue on Commons, I started doubting Takabeg's good faith, when I noticed that he tags everything that is classified under 'Azerbaijan' with the same wording. I was particularly appauled by the deletion of this image, which was a cropped photo that I took personally with my own camera during Chingiz Sadykhov's concert in Toronto, Canada, in August 2006, and I indicated so in the description. This is just one example. I have no means to log into Commons frequently, but I doubt that mass tagging of media from one specific region under the dubious claim of "possible copyright vio" is enough to delete these files. Parishan (talk) 18:25, 24 February 2013 (UTC)

The image you link to above is a very low-quality black and white photo that looks questionable at best. I would suggest uploading it at a higher resolution and with EXIF if possible. As for Takabeg, you should attempt to discuss this issue with him on his talkpage. If that fails, or you've already spoken to him about this, you have the option of taking this to Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems. INeverCry 18:35, 24 February 2013 (UTC)
I am not in the possession of this photo in higher resolution. I took it on a distance and I cropped Mr. Sadykhov out of a group of people who were in it for the purpose of improving the Wikipedia article about him. If something "looks questionable", it does not yet mean that it is copyvio; at least, until the supposedly original source of this image is found. I believe that reporting a picture just because it looks suspicious to someone is rather subjective and bad-faith. As for Takabeg, this user is well-known for his anti-Azerbaijani POV on Wikipedia, for which he has been warned and blocked. [2]. Parishan (talk) 17:37, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
In regard to the image, the burden of proof of free-license is on the uploader, and if an image seems questionable, it can be deleted per COM:PRP. As for Takabeg, I can only repeat my suggestions from above. INeverCry 17:44, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
Then how am I expected to prove that this image only exists on my hard drive? Parishan (talk) 17:48, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
The best way of doing so would be to upload the original uncropped version. If you're telling me you took a high quality photo of a famous person, cropped/reduced it to a very low quality 250 × 284 (14,378 bytes) image, and kept only that, I'd have to say that sounds a bit strange. INeverCry 18:03, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
I never said it was high quality. The photo came out dark because I had not taken it with a professional camera, so I had to spend some time rendering it lighter. I figured that posting the full version of the photo would be unethical, because it depicts other people who would not like to appear on Commons, which is why I only cropped the part that was relevant to the subject of the article. Parishan (talk) 18:08, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
I have my doubts about this image, but you have the option of posting an undeletion request to get other opinions. INeverCry 18:23, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

DELETED PHOTOS FROM ARTICLES SAWANA AND LOMALOMA

I note that you have deleted all photos that were part of two articles Sawana and Lomaloma. The photos taken are not subject to copyright violations as they are photos that I took and no one in this world would claim violation unless it is being mischievously claimed

The photos to the two articles add great value and particularly useful for those who read them and see current context of the messages being told in the article.

The deleted images are lots and I do not know how to link them here other than to identify for you the two articles and my username Trabeta.

When I found out how - I will provide the links to the files

The concern here is that these images are small with no EXIF, leading to doubt of authorship. Can you upload any of the original images in higher-resolution and with the EXIF info intact? I noticed that you've asked EugeneZelenko about this as well, so I'll await his opinion on this before doing anything in relation to these questionable images. INeverCry 05:39, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

Will do but need to note that this article relates to a village and people in the village have donated or sent me photos and updated information to be added to the article. This is a community article that people have contributed to. there have been up to 89 people from the village that have read the article and have seen their contribution - disappointed that you have taken this decision to remove the pictures that add quality to the article. Trabeta

If these images were created by other people you need to ask them to sent permission to Commons:OTRS (example: Commons:Email templates). Anyway, these images are not your own work as you claimed. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 15:43, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

vandalism

Hi, it's katepanomegas. Sorry to see it has come that far. This week, after some problems last month with the same vandals (two temporary blocks due to "complains"), my facebook account got hacked. I cannot access it, and some friends got to phone me after attacks from my profile. Yesterday, I have lost access to my one of my gmails (not the most important, hopefully). Now, it is the commons account (no access + agressive behaviour). Honnestly, I do not know what these people want and where the are going to stop, especially since they seem to have cracked my usual passwords. If is there anything I can do, let me know.

This is being looked into. INeverCry 17:42, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
Update: I've blocked the account. If you need anything, let me know. INeverCry 01:05, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Garry_South.jpg

Hi INeverCry,

I uploaded the jpg Garry_South http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Garry_South.jpg some time ago and I believe it was deleted in error. The image is clearly in the public domain and for use by anyone online. Just to make sure, I emailed Garry South to ask if it was public domain and he said it was. Can you please restore the image? Thank you.

Alex Alexscottthompson (talk) 05:39, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

When you uploaded this you claimed it was your "own work". If this is the case, why would you have to ask Garry if it was public domain? Who is the photographer that took this image? INeverCry 05:47, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

That was a mistake on my part. As you will see from my history, I haven't uploaded many pictures. But Garry South is an acquaintance of mine and he asked if I could upload the picture for him. He said there was no copyright on it and that it was public domain (as evidenced by its prolific use around the web). This was just my inexperience with wikiCommons. Alexscottthompson (talk) 06:36, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

This is a portrait done by a professional photographer. COM:OTRS permission from the author/copyright holder is needed before this image can be restored. INeverCry 17:00, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Image removal on "Ted Malloch" page

Hi INeverCry,

We are a website develoment company and Theodore Roosevelt Malloch is our client. Dr. Malloch provided an photo of him and asked us to add it to his Wiki page below:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Malloch

For some reason you are deleting his photo from his wiki page. We just want to check if we need to do some thing to avoid his photo getting deleted. Please let us know. Here is the reference URL:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Deletion_requests/File:Theodore_Roosevelt_Malloch.jpg

This photo is directly from Dr. Malloch himself. Will it be possible for you to restore it?

Best Regards, -Madhan

In the case of this image, we would need COM:OTRS permission from the photographer in order to host the image on Commons. INeverCry 17:33, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Re-upload of a deleted image?

Hi, you recently deleted File:Vijay Goel.jpg because of a Flickr licensing issue. File:VijayGoel1.jpg has just been uploaded and relates to a Flickr account that purports to be the same name as the Commons-registered user, ie: Tkimtg. While the original image at Flickr "all rights reserved", the new image shows a less restrictive license there.

This could be entirely innocent and it could be that the license has been changed precisely because of our concerns with the original. However, I am a bit concerned. I cannot remember for sure but am reasonably confident that these are the same image. I am also reasonably confident that the original upload came from someone else's Flickr stream. Not being au fait with Flickr, I don't know if usernames can be changed and/or if it is possible to view when an image was uploaded there. Could someone grab an image uploaded by another Flickr user and re-upload it there, making different claims regarding license, origin etc? Can you see the Flickr url that was provided with the original upload to Commons and cross-check to the url of the new upload here? Obviously, if they match then my memory has been playing tricks and the license has been amended. Thanks. - Sitush (talk) 21:30, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Sitush. It's a moot point for now, as I've deleted File:VijayGoel1.jpg too. It was available on Flickr only under a non-commercial license, which is unacceptable on Commons. INeverCry 22:27, 4 March 2013 (UTC)
Ok, thanks. One day I will try to get my head around all these CC variants. From activity on en-Wikipedia, I think there is a fan or associate involved wrt Vijay Goel & so it would not surprise me if another attempt is made. - Sitush (talk) 23:51, 4 March 2013 (UTC)

Query about two Japanese public domain images deleted as copyright violations

Hi. I notice you recently deleted two images I uploaded (File:Bushu-Nagase Station south impression 2012.jpg and File:Bushu-Nagase Station north impression 2012.jpg) as copyright violations. Admittedly, I wasn't 100% sure when I uploaded them, but my understanding was (and is) that because these images were issued by a local city council in Japan, they are exempted from copyright and become public domain, as indicated in the Template:PD-Japan-exempt I used for the license. Is my understanding mistaken? If so, File:Kawagoe Station west exit forecourt artists impression.jpg was also uploaded under the same license and premise, so may need to be removed as well. Sorry to bother you, but I would be grateful if you could clarify the situation so I know whether or not I should continue to upload any more local government-issued images like this again in the future. Thanks. --DAJF (talk) 23:16, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

I personally don't think photos and artist renderings of buildings are covered. Mine isn't the last word on things though, so I would suggest either nominating the above file for deletion and seeing what happens, or filing an undeletion request and seeing what others say. Either decision can then be applied to any other related files. INeverCry 23:58, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Finnish passport image

I was notified that File:Aland passport biodata page.png was deleted as a copyright violation. I agree with Stefan4 that {{PD-FinlandGov}} may apply, but without being able to see the image description I cannot tell for sure.

There are probably two possibly copyrightable elements: the photo and the passport layout and background. The latter are probably determined by a governmental decision and thus without copyright protection. The specimen as a whole is likewise without copyright if it was published as part of a statement by a public authority (which is the most probable source for such a specimen). Independent parts of such a statement can have a copyright, but the threshold for that is high. A simple photograph, possibly specifically made for this use, could hardly reach it.

The user INeverCry deleted almost all my uploaded photos. I don’t know what is his problem with people contributing here. User talk:AnaMariaSmith — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anamariasmith (talk • contribs) 17:17, March 17, 2013‎ (UTC)

Request to UNDELETE Rudolfo A. Fernandez Sr., Rudolfo A. Fernandez Sr2 and Rudolfo A. Fernandez Sr3

Yes, I do own the photos of Rudolfo A. Fernandez and the original owner and photographer is also him my FATHER, Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr. who died last June 9, 1979, it was his camera that was used to take his photos. I am attaching herewith his Death Certficate and MY birth certificate proving to you that I am his daughter... Death Certificate of Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36095247/Rudolfo%20A.%20Fernandez%20Sr.%20Death%20Certificate.jpg and this is my birth certificate http://dl.dropbox.com/u/36095247/Faith%20Fernandez%20Birth%20Certificate.jpg and other than that... what other documents do you need from me in order to prove to you than I AM THE COPYRIGHT owner of those Rudolfo A. Fernandez, Sr. photographs?

Please send an email to COM:OTRS and explain your situation to them. If everything checks out, they will restore the files for you. INeverCry 00:13, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Moar copyvio?

Noticed you added autopatrolled to my account, thanks for that. I ran across these two and pretty sure they are copyvios, but not sure of the ration to use here at commons:

When I'm tied to the phone at work, I find that patrolling here at Commons is fairly easy to do at the same time, so wanting to get better up to speed so I can tag properly. Dennis Brown (talk) 15:59, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Dennis. I've deleted both files. The poster, if it had any educational value, could've been tagged for permission seeing that the uploader had an organization name. It was a pure promo though, and so I deleted it and blocked the acct. The other was copyvio product packaging, and so I deleted it. For a basic guideline, see Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter and COM:SCOPE. I try to keep my reasons for tagging short and sweet, like "album cover", "COM:DW", "complex logo", etc. See User:INeverCry/Stuff#C&P for the most common reasons I use. As for patrolling, there are 20000+ copyvios and out of scope images waiting for you in Category:Media needing categories. I've done quite a bit of work there, up to April 2012. I usually get about 50 DRs/CSDs out of each day's images. You might want to get acquainted with our most powerful patroller's tool, VisualFileChange which you can use to nominate multiple images in mass DRs or to tag multiple images for CSD, permission, etc. INeverCry 16:27, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Excellent, thank you. I've added those links to my user page here. If you think of any other good links, please add them there, if you are inclined. As I said, patrolling here is sometimes much easier than working enwp when I'm riding the phone at work, since it is much smaller chunks of work at a time, researching individual images, etc. The problem with enwp when I'm working is that it usually centers around admin work, which requires more depth, research and follow up than checking out single images here. I love my work there, but each case consumed a great deal of attention. Dennis Brown (talk) 17:05, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
I've added our main navbox to your userpage, which should give you just about all you'd need. If you want to do quick work, you should go for the out of scope stuff and obvious copyvios. Unused personal images, promotional images of non-notable people and bands, unused promo text logos and the like abound in Category:Media needing categories. There are also plenty of images that give a copyrighted internet source or are obvious copyvio screenshots, album covers, complex logos, etc. There are thousands of these easy to tag images, and we get 1000+ new images per day, so you'll never run out of work.
