First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
  • Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

OTRS question[edit]

An administrator restored File:David Gandy with Mercedes Gullwing.jpg under the impression that it might be covered by Template:OTRS ticket. However, that ticket covers File:David Gandy by Conor Clinch (2013).jpg. Do you have a permissions statement for the first image?--Sphilbrick (talk) 13:45, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Digging further, I see that you sent a permission form for the gullwing image to David Gandy, but I haven't seen evidence that it was returned to us. Template:OTRS ticket --Sphilbrick (talk) 13:51, 13 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
One more item. When I read the permissions statement that was covered, it refers to two attached images. That email had only one image attached. However, because there is both File:David Gandy by Conor Clinch (2013).jpg and the cropped version File:David Gandy by Conor Clinch (2013) - cropped.jpg, I thought the reference to two images might refer to the two versions. Hi Sphilbrick, I sent the OTRS permission form to David Gandy on 11 Dec 2012; there were 2 images attached to my original message. He immediately forwarded the permission back to me with both images still attached. I forwarded all of the above to "permissions-commons@wikimedia.org" on 11 Dec 2012. David Gandy[edit]

Hi Laura. I've fixed up the David Gandy gallery, and added a header and 2 sub-headers. I've also created the main category for David: Category:David Gandy, and added all the relevant sub-categories to this main category. All you need to do if/when you upload a new pic of him is to add [[Category:David Gandy]]. All the other categories describing him are now on his main category and don't need to be added to separate images. I also created Category:Alumni of the University of Gloucestershire for him and added it to his category. If you need more help with this, or anything else, let me know. I'm happy to help. I also made a small fix to the image and caption in the infobox in his article on en.wiki, and added that same image to his articles on the Italian and Polish wikis. INeverCry 02:44, 14 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Commons:Deletion requests/File:Dolce & Gabbana Shop (Via della Spiga - Milan) 01.jpg[edit]

I moved the comment you made at Commons:Deletion requests/Adam Senn to the subject DR. The Dr of the gallery, where you left your comment, was a mistake. Help with upload a photo[edit]

Please, help me.

I need to upload this image https://brunosantos.com/2018/09/11/bruno-santos-by-juan-martin-2018/ on this wiki article Bruno Santos (model).

I tried to do it but for some reason I couldn't. The photographer and the photographed (both holders of the rights to this image) allowed me to publish it on wikipedia
