Hi JG - great minds think alike.😊 Just this morning, I sent Jasmine an email asking if Mike had any problems filling out/submitting the form (he is mega-busy). I've sent 2 emails to her so far with no response. Racetracks don't care about copyrights - they just want their name out there. And they are already mentioned in the article as the historic racetrack, so we should probably just stick with the PD tag - maybe change the sources I originally mentioned and add that they came from Santa Anita Park. The same would apply if we decide to upload any of the other images they provided. We'll simply mention the source in the PD tag. If you have a better plan let me know. Atsme Talk 📧

Hi, JGHowes, I completely overlooked getting this done, but it's done now. My apologies, but I sold my ranch during the time this was all taking place, and now I am in the throws of having to move after 43 years of accumulating stuff. Add to that, the fact that I'm not even in the US, yet, and have been negotiating from afar via email, DocuSign, and working with the island's Notaris/Registrie (which is very time consuming). COVID shut-down this little island in Feb 2020, and the first direct flight to the US for me will be Aug 11th. I really do wish Fastily had contacted one of us first instead of initiating a deletion request. I don't understand the long-term pursuit in trying to eliminate that one image considering we are not trying to violate US copyright law (intentional or otherwise) and I'm certainly not going to risk my membership with VRT. Commons Photographers User Group: first board election

Wiki Science Competition 2021 has started

Dear uploader of European Science Photo Competition 2015 and Wiki Science Competition 2017 and Wiki Science Competition 2019, we would like to remind you that Wiki Science Competition 2021 has started in the whole world. It is now completed in Russia (active in May), but it's still open in almost all the other countries.

If you want to take part in WSC2021, please consult this page. Only some national categories are associated to competitions with local prizes.

If you are an expert user, we remind you that images uploaded within the deadline can be included in any case in their national category even if not uploaded with the main interface.

Please keep in mind that there is a new category this year, that is "astronomy".

If you already took part in a country that has completed its upload phase, please consider improving the description in English of your files (click on the edit button), since such description is what the international jury will use to evaluate them. World finalists will be finalized after March 2020.

Quick update on behalf of the Commons Photographers User Group

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I hope you're well and enjoy taking photos for Wikimedia Commons. Here are a couple of quick updates on behalf of our group:

  • Our next virtual meeting will take place on Saturday, August 27. At this point we have two presentations lined up:
  • Suitable! Unsuitable! How to choose photos for a Wikipedia for children, “Klexikon” (Ziko)
  • The aperture and its (less known) effects (XRay)

Question from the CPUG Board

Dear user group member,

I'm writing you to today on behalf of the board of the Commons Photographers User Group. The past year has been a busy one for us. In 2022, we've had more activities than ever before in the history of our group and you'll find an overview on our group's page.

With that being said, 2022 was also a year of learning for the current board members. Most of us hadn't been involved in running the Photographers User Group and we spent quite some time on getting used to our new roles. We all feel it was a steep learning curve.

That's why, at our last board meeting, we decided to ask our members whether they'd be ok with us serving for another year. Extending our board duties to the end of 2023 would allow us to continue the work we've started this year, and to benefit from the knowledge we've built over the past twelve months.

However, in the end, it's up to you and the other members of our group to decide whether such an extension of our board term should be granted. I invite you to voice your opinion on this page:

Wiki Loves Folklore 2023 has started, Join us!

Greetings from Wiki Loves Folklore International Team!

Wiki Loves Folklore is an international photography contest hosted on Wikimedia Commons to document folklore and intangible cultural heritage from around the world, such as folk festivals, folk dances, folk music, folk activities, folk games, folk cuisine, folk wear, folktales, folk games, folk religion, mythology, and many more.

The campaign invites participants to document photographs, videos, and audios linked to folk culture and fit within the contest's theme. Through this campaign, you may become a part of a community dedicated to preserving our intangible culture, which has been brought and passed down for thousands of years.

How to Contribute?

The dates for the submission in the photography contest on Wikimedia Commons are from 1 February to 31 March 2023. Probably you are wondering how you can take part. Commons photographers: next virtual meeting on August 5

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

Commons Photographers User Group: Board Elections 2023

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

in preparation of the 2023 board election of our group, we invite you to take a look at the following page:

The timeline for the 2023 election will be

  • September 15 – September 30: Applications for the election committee
  • October 1 – October 9: Vote for election committee (ideally comprised of three members)
  • October 10: Election committee starts work
  • October 20 – November 9: Nomination phase for candidacies
  • November 10 – December 10: Elections
  • December 15: Results announced

In the first step we ask you to be part of the election committe. Please add your name on the Election Page.

We are very much looking forward to hearing from you. Please use this talk page for your thoughts.
