Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]

[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

About the book cover, from a very careful reading of the template, and if the date for publishing is correct, then it looks like it should be deleted. I want to know if that is ok with you, and then I shall ask. Is it ok ?

I look around for an image from which to make an artists impression, and I think as with many Islamic people in history there are no images to work from, I wonder then, if an illustration of the man himself is a good idea for the article, when we can only guess, and only upset some people with our guesses ? Then I am thinking possibly a good way to improve the article with an illustration would be with a fancy map like this, showing his movements and battles and timeline ? I finish the latest map request for the volta rivers. For the svg, I think the best place to ask is the illustration workshop, rather than the map workshop, maybe. or both ? I guess it would be easy to mention that it is in both pages. Svg is the one I don't do much of, but Fry does that very well. There are a few others that do it as well. Hello! I'm an admin on Arabic Wikipedia, and i do participate here sometimes: translate files to Arabic and add old photos as well some new ones after i gain permission from their copy right holders. Anyway, i often find paintings and drawings of maps and events that concern the Arab world in particular and Muslim world in general, that are not found here and i'm reluctant to upload any fearing that the lack of info might cause their deletion. But now we are in need for some particular ones, so do you think these maps and painting of a siege here, as well as this painting and the Arabic maps here and the black and white drawing of the ship fleet (scroll down) are suitable for uploading? and if they are (or just some of them) which license would be the best?

As long as the paintings are over about 120 years old, they can be licensed as {{PD-old}}. The maps you will not be able to upload, as they will be copyrighted. -mattbuck (Talk) 08:19, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

I do think, these are photos of a modern Turkish panorama (tr:Panorama 1453 Tarih Müzesi + lifebeyondtourism.org: The-Panorama-1453-Historical-Museum) and doesn't qualify for PD-old or PD-art. Greetings باسم, I've noticed that you created a localized version of a few maps, such as this one among others, Thank you for your effort, but I want to point that generally speaking a PNG file is an inferior format when it comes to maps and computer aided drawings that can be or originally are in SVG format, and creating arabic version of SVG files in PNG formats is probably considered a regression. If you need help working with SVG files and arabic, please let me know, I'll be glad to help.--Uwe a (talk) 00:31, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

If you can point what goes wrong, we might be able to figure out how to fix it, If you feel comfortable using PNG, that is up to you, never the less, its a waster of effort to do both (whether its me or someone else); as I was just pointing out, raster files are much less reusable, much harder to update and much harder to localize, there are a few issues that have to do with text in svg and arabic fonts and what wikimedia supports in the process of creating derivatives, which depend on a few tricks when saving files and similar, anyway, I claim it creates better quality media for articles, whenever you think its appropriate, I'm around, you can always send me "broken" svg files and i'll try to fix them.--Uwe a (talk) 23:43, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

I'm almost done with it, but i have a few issues with finding the following locations:

• Hayat: Can't figure out which city this is, cant find reference to the location
• Dara (the mountain(?); not sure what this location is as well, a village called "عتمان" seems to be whatever is north of yarmouk river, but I'm unable to find a byzantine reference to it, so, what is this location north of "درعا" and the river ...
• Terutia
• Qaturo

The Armenian Apostolic Church is erroneously colored (in red) as being part of the Eastern Orthodox Church in the map File:Europe religion map.png and in all in its different language versions File:Europe religion map-ar.png, File:Europe religion map de.png, File:Europe religion map en.png, File:Europe religion map fr.png etc., which is incorrect because it is a separate Christian denomination. Could you color Armenia and the breakaway Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan in a different color in all these maps?

I updated the original SVG file, and I believe it would be good to add the arabic translation right into the SVG. Could you please provide me with the text which is used in File:Population_of_Taiwan_since_1978.ar.png? I believe it states "Population, millions", like in the source :)

The percentage of Christians in Azerbaijan is below 5% according to various academic sources and research companies. (It is shown as a nominally Muslim Shiite majority country in these sources, but it ranks among the least religious/most irreligious countries in the world according to these same sources as well.)

Hello.

Can you add the borders of South Sudan in File:Fatimid Islamic Caliphate-ar.png which you uploaded, File:Fatimid Islamic Caliphate.png and File:Fatimid Islamic Caliphate He.png, because modern borders are superimposed on these maps and South Sudan has been forgotten. These maps are almost duplicates with the same colors and resolution but are language variants of each other.
