Report by Kevshannon

@Kevshannon: Hi, and welcome. I am sorry to inform you that you have triggered Special:AbuseFilter/153 by trying to cross-wiki upload a smaller (<50KB or <5MP) jpg photo as a new user while leaving the summary intact. The photo you tried to upload is smaller, and you wrote it's your own work. Usually when someone uploads a smaller photo, it is a copyright violation taken from the web. If you took the photo yourself, please upload the full-size original of it, including EXIF metadata. If you did not take the photo, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept it, and have the photographer post Commons:Licensing compliant permission for such works on their website or social media presence or send the photo and permission via OTRS with a carbon copy to you. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 14:01, 1 August 2019 (UTC)

abuse filter is not work. Blocking my own photos to add to my own bio. How to proceed?

The abuse filter is not work. Blocking my own photos to add to my own bio. How to proceed? I am using png. I am using file size under 800 pixels I took the photos myself or the images below to me, (e.g. graphics used for the products I developed.) I have tried about 25 times to upload in every option i see available.

How to simply add photos to my bio and history and continue the process to completing my WikiPedia profile? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Johnfcruz (talk • contribs) 04:16, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

Johnfcruz, the filter worked as intended. Wikimedia Commons is not the right place to promote yourself and your career. --Achim (talk) 09:03, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Edit kind: I am creating a profile bio page with a contribution, but you keep deleting it. Why? I am unable to upload photos. Images that would confirm the accurracy of the content of my bio. Please explain where there is a problem in uploading and creating my profile and why I cannot upload photo. Yes, I did read your instructions and yes the image upload button is working but always after the upload displays "unsucessful" because of your filters. What is the problem? The photo and images, including product images belong to me. Waiting for your solution to this problem. you can email john@imagemind.com as well.
  • Comments: there seems to be problems with the system or my connection. Because I am unable to create a profile. I am unable to upload photo because of your filters even though the photos and images below to me, you display on your page, you think they do not. why do you believe this? And how do I prove it. Please call me telephone number so that these problems can be resolved. Thank you. Johnfcruz (talk) 09:05, 2 August 2019 (UTC)

  • Edit kind: Achim55 you write my bio is self promoting. It is a factual historic record. Please provide me details of how you feel it should be written. I give you another bio as an example that is approved so you can explain to me the difference. EXAMPLE: Since 1987, Gates has been included in the Forbes list of the world's wealthiest people, an index of the wealthiest documented individuals, excluding and ranking against those with wealth that is not able to be completely ascertained.[12][13] From 1995 to 2017, he held the Forbes title of the richest person in the world all but four of those years, and held it consistently from March 2014 to July 2017, with an estimated net worth of US$89.9 billion as of October 2017.[1] However, on July 27, 2017, and since October 27, 2017, he has been surpassed by Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos, who had an estimated net worth of US$90.6 billion at the time.[14] As of August 6, 2018, Gates had a net worth of $95.4 billion, making him the second-richest person in the world, behind Bezos. MY BIO SUMMARY: In 1992, John wrote a video player algorithm that played postage-sized digital video clips full screen in smooth, natural motion without hardware assist on 286/283 Windows Series Personal Computers. At the time, the consumer market had little exposure to see and hear audio/video played from personal computers unless specialized and expensive hardware was added to the computer. John’s software increased the consumer market to the possibilities of the new Window’s based personal computers entering the market. Why is mine acceptable to the previous example?

None of the filter log links you provided have any entries, and in any case, you cannot upload anything unless you are registered and logged in, which you are not.
But searching through all the entries in the log, I'm guessing you may be ItsBlcxrx2 (talkcontribsblock logfilter log) who tried to upload File:Knockbride Crest.png (histlogsabuse log). If so, the filter you encountered prevents low-resolution uploads from newly registered users using the particular upload form that you used. The reason for this is that those overwhelmingly turn out to be copyright violations.
Since you admit here that "the picture was not mine" even though you asserted when attempting to upload it that "This is my own work" and "I attest that I own the copyright on this file", the filter worked as intended by preventing you from uploading a copyright violation with false authorship claims and false copyright claims, which is a criminal offence and a violation of the terms of use of this site. "Giving a reference" in no way mitigates violating the author's rights. Please read Commons:Project scope/Summary to understand what you can and cannot upload to this site. LX (talk, contribs) 09:16, 3 August 2019 (UTC)

Report by 123skiller123

123skiller123: You seem to have some interesting definitions of what "my own" means. When you attempted to upload the file, you stated that "This is my own work" and "I attest that I own the copyright on this file". Even here, you say that it is "your" picture even though you also say that it's someone else's creation. That would make it their work. The copyright of a photo belongs to the person who creates the photo, so the filter appears to have worked as intended by preventing you from uploading a copyright violation with false authorship claims.
Also note that we generally do not need you to upload photographs of yourself. If you are planning to contribute actively to a Wikimedia project, you may upload a small number of personal photographs for use on your user page, but if all you want to do here is to promote yourself (and so far, it looks like that is your only reason for being here), then we don't need that. None of the filter log links you provided have any entries, and in any case, you cannot upload anything unless you are registered and logged in, which you are not.
But searching through all the entries in the log, I'm guessing you may be Sbettin (talkcontribsblock logfilter log) who tried to upload File:SCC logo vector.png (histlogsabuse log), File:Southfield City Centre.jpg (histlogsabuse log) and File:Evergreen Road Development.jpg (histlogsabuse log). If so, the filter that you encountered prevents low-resolution uploads from newly registered users using the particular upload form that you used. The reason for this filter is that such files overwhelmingly turn out to be copyright violations.
If you did indeed personally create these images, as you stated when you attempted to upload it ("This is my own work" and "I attest that I own the copyright on this file"), the expectation is that you should be able to provide full-resolution photos and actual vector graphics rather than the 317×472 and 800×533 pixel miniature versions of the photos and raster version (despite the filename) of the logo that you tried to upload.
Also, you keep saying "we". Is your account used by more than one person? LX (talk, contribs) 22:06, 6 August 2019 (UTC)

I am the lone user of this account and i was also trying to upload multiple versions of the image files. I'll try again loading a full-resolution photo and/or graphics to see if it helps. Thank you.

How exactly would one "look online" to verify that you are who you say you are (actually, you don't say who you are) and that what you say is true? But even though you say it was "your" work, you then say it was taken by "us" – was the camera handled by multiple people at once? And if it's just a faithful reproduction of a van Gogh painting in the public domain, it's not really your own work that you hold the copyright to, is it?
Lastly, please note that we already have File:Van Gogh - Die Seine mit der Pont de Clichy.jpeg here on Commons. LX (talk, contribs) 09:54, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

Did you actually personally create this logotype, as you claimed when attempting to upload it, and are you personally the copyright holder? If you did, then a vector version would be preferable, but it seems unlikely that the copyright of a logo of an event such as this would be held by a private individual. You may wish to read Commons:Guidance for paid editors, which includes information on sharing logotypes correctly on behalf of an organisation. LX (talk, contribs) 11:44, 8 August 2019 (UTC)

So I guess I'll wait till the duplicate is deleted before I try again to upload the correct file, if it still doesn't work I'll upload it under another name and ask to rename it afterwards (There's no success like failure / And failure's no success at all) --Jwh (talk) 07:33, 7 August 2019 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: Thanks for this hint! What I did was in: Properties / Remove Properties and Personal Information / Create a copy with all possible properties removed. The result came as a much smaller file (2.3 MB instead of 16.5 MB !!) but at least the upload worked as File:Canal à Amsterdam, Joseph Kutter-103 - Copy.jpg. Somehow weird as all other files from the same source worked fine without "manipulating" them. --Jwh (talk) 11:21, 9 August 2019 (UTC)

If you took the photos yourself, please upload the full-size originals of them, including EXIF metadata. If you did not take the photos, please see Commons:Licensing for why we can't accept them, and have the photographer(s) license them on their websites or social media or send the photos and permissions via OTRS with carbon copies to you. Report by Sur Vey Maker

Sur Vey Maker: Well you're a bit of a potty mouth, aren't you? It seems rather unlikely that the copyright of a logo of a college would be held by a private individual, so the filter probably worked as intended by preventing you from uploading a copyright violation with false authorship claims. If, however, you are a legal representative the college, (a) your language reflects poorly on your employer, (b) you shouldn't be editing at en:Notre Dame College, Dhaka, and (c) in doing so, you violated the Wikimedia Foundation's Terms of Use with respect to disclosure of paid editing. Laurie Coyle: When you attempted to upload the file, you stated that "This is my own work" and "I attest that I own the copyright on this file". Based on what you write above, that wasn't actually true, so the filter worked as intended by preventing you from uploading a copyright violation with false authorship claims. If the actual author of the photograph is willing to publish the photograph under a license that allows anyone to use, modify and redistribute it for any purpose, including commercial purposes, please see these instructions on how to obtain and submit an appropriate permission statement. Report by Asim Ali (Director)

Asim Ali (Director): The filter you encountered prevents low-resolution uploads from newly registered users using the particular upload form that you used. The reason for this filter is that such uploads overwhelmingly turn out to be copyright violations. If you did indeed personally create these images, the expectation is that you should be able to provide full-resolution versions rather than the 602×599 and 604×600 pixel miniature versions that you tried to upload.
It sounds like you may be the subject of the photos, so unless they were selfies, it seems like the filter may have worked as intended by preventing you from uploading photos with false authorship information. Also note that we generally do not need you to upload photographs of yourself. You may upload a small number of personal photographs for use on your user page, but this only applies if you are an actual contributor to a Wikimedia project. New abuse filter

A filter that prohibits IP and users from adding templates that require vetting, e.g. {{Quality image}} (basically some of the things from Category:Assessment templates). These groups are exempted: Autopatrollers, File movers and Rollbackers. Autoconfirmed cannot be trusted either since the threshold is so low.

I thought of this because I saw 113.172.194.60 (talk · contribs) added a lot of fake QualityImage (the +17 bytes edits). Either a bot has to check for fake ones or we should prevent insertion of these templates straightaway.--Roy17 (talk) 22:43, 4 August 2019 (UTC)

Maybe templates like "{{Quality image}}" should only be added by a group called "Content judges", but then again I wouldn't want to see a whole user group created over an incident that rarely happens. I'm not sure how only stopping IP addresses would be beneficial as someone can just register an account and then do the exact same thing. But then again a lot of abuse filters are created around single incidents or single users so maybe it's not a bad idea. But having a bot automatically compare where the template is used and which images have actually been promoted would be the superior alternative, as theoretically anyone could falsely add a "{{Quality image}}" template, so the bot could alert to all false quality images and then remove the template/report on it. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 06:30, 6 August 2019 (UTC)
@Roy17 and Donald Trung: Why not restrict it to bots? Do humans add those templates too? (I don't pay much attention to it, I mostly notice it when I see talk page spam from bots for QI/VI) - Alexis Jazz ping plz 16:25, 6 August 2019 (UTC)

Your attempt to create a page in the main namespace of Wikimedia Commons was automatically prevented.

This usually happens for one of the following reasons:

You tried to create a Wikipedia article – but this is not Wikipedia. The website you are on right now, Wikimedia Commons, is a media repository used by Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, and others. Unlike on Wikipedia, pages in the main namespace here are not articles. Instead, they are galleries that showcase media files. To get to Wikipedia, visit wikipedia.org. The English Wikipedia project has information about how to create your first article. You tried to create a gallery but used the wrong format. If you are trying to create a page showcasing media files, you should include gallery tags, media files and categories, as explained in the gallery guidelines. You just wanted to experiment a little. That's okay. You can do that in the sandbox. If you have any questions, please visit the help desk.

Please upload the full-size original of it, including EXIF metadata, but it may be judged too complex to be under TOO in the country of origin, so you may need to post COM:L compliant permission for such works on your website or social media presence or send permission via OTRS because we don't allow Fair Use here. Also, any raster image will look jaggy when scaled up, so you may want to upload an svg version, too. If you want to use the file on English Wikipedia, please read WP:F. If you change the summary or use our Upload Wizard instead, you should be able to avoid that filter.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 12:42, 24 August 2019 (UTC)
