File:Nordre Ekre setra 2.jpg what is wrong?

I don't understand what I have done wrong with this file? Is it the fact that I originally stated that it was my own work, and later changed the photographer's name? Does it help if I add "See [Ticket#2012082510004975]"? kj 14:07, 2 March 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kjersti Lie (talk • contribs)

You did not specify a license. An OTRS ticket will help of course. Ruslik (talk) 15:04, 2 March 2013 (UTC)
So this is not enough?

== == cc-by-sa-3.0 I am sorry to be so stupid - but if this is insufficient, I think I have uploaded several files without the correct license information. kj 15:09, 2 March 2013 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kjersti Lie (talk • contribs)

Adding photographs to existing articles

Hi,

I am doing personal research at the National Archives in College Park, MD. This research is currently focused on locating photographs on specific topics. While doing this research I find numerous images that are interesting. For example I have just found a series of photographs related to "Quentin Roosevelt" These photo of his grave, memorial services, monument, and a picture of the German Pilot who shot him down. This photos are owned by the U.S. Government and are available for public use. I would like to add these photos to the existing Quentin Roosevelt article. I have a number of others of "Father Duffy" Col. William "Wild Bill" Donovan, and George S. Patton, etc. that I can add.

Thank You

I'm making a article in english about a japanese painter, and d also i want make the same article in Japanese, How do i make a button on the left side bar to link the english article to my japanese version article and vice versa?

thanks and apreciating your time, Kristina mar — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kristinamar (talk • contribs) 10:02, 3 March 2013‎ (UTC)

You should ask at w:Wikipedia:Help Desk. Ruslik (talk) 15:00, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
Actually, it's very simple, and it's the same thing we do here on Commons to link categories to Wikipedia articles on the various Wikipedias. It's called making an interwiki link (and it will be a link, not a button). For example, if the painter were Vincent van Gogh, at the bottom of the article you would write ja:フィンセント・ファン・ゴッホ. If you wanted a normal inline link to that article, rather than to get this into the navigation, you'd write :ja:フィンセント・ファン・ゴッホ or, if you wanted different text in the link, something like Japanese-language article on Vincent van Gogh. I believe that should answer your question. - Jmabel ! talk 19:36, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

As far as I know, the Wikimedia Foundation, the non-profit foundation which oversees the Wikimedia Commons, does not have a "fraud security department", but in any case, this mail has nothing to do with the Wikimedia Foundation or Wikimedia Commons. Just like anyone can write a fake sender address on an envelope or postcard, anyone can use a fake "From:" line in their e-mails. The real origin, which you can tell from the penultimate "Received" line, is 46.171.1.165, a server belonging to Orange in Poland, so you should contact cert.pl@orange.com instead. Hi, I wanted to fix an error in a physics image, but apparently my account is too new.

The old image is here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Elementary_particle_interactions.svg My new image is here: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Elementary_particle_interactions_new.svg

Can somebody please update the old image with the new?

Adding a licence

I have had an image removed by Nikbot who says what I have shown is a template and not a licence. The image in question is a school crest which I photographed on the cover of a school magazine dated 1952. I could substitute a photograph of the same badge on my old school blazer - would that make any difference. I have read the various references intended to help me add a licence but still cannot see how it is done. Can you point me in the right direction please? Patronicus — Preceding unsigned comment added by Patronicus (talk • contribs) 16:41, 1 March 2013‎ (UTC)

--Lars Severin (talk) 17:29, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

--Botaurus (talk) 18:54, 1 March 2013 (UTC)

"Commons:Categories for discussion" page

I used "Nominate for discussion" in the toolbar, and it created "Commons:Categories for discussion/2013/03/Category:Demolished buildings in New York City". But it added a category to the "Category:Demolished buildings in New York City" page: CfD 2013-03 in red (page does not exist). How can I create a live link? Thank you for your help. Hamblin (talk) 02:51, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Now it seems the page "Commons:Categories for discussion/2013/03/Category:Demolished buildings in New York City" has been deleted and I don't know why. Hamblin (talk) 03:01, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

Commons:Categories for discussion/2013/03/Category:Demolished buildings in New York City looks fine from here, technically speaking. By the way, CfD 2013-03 is a maintenance category that helps keep all the deletion requests organized by date, so it doesn't really matter that it's red. Mono 04:21, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

This is the first time I've uploaded an image to Wikipedia. I went through the Wikimedia Commons and followed the guidelines, but I'm seeing that there is copyright information missing and the image will be taken down in 7 days. I'm not sure what else I need to add/where I need to add it. Help!

--Gbeey (talk) 21:34, 27 February 2013 (UTC)

You don't indicate any licensing, and I suspect that you are not in a position to license it.
  • I presume you do not own the intellectual property rights to the image, so any route involving you granting a license won't work, so...
  • Is this image in the public domain? More specifically, is this image in the public domain in both the US and the country where it was taken, and if so why? I suspect it is not.
In short, I don't think it qualifies for Commons, though I could be missing something. It probably can be uploaded to the English-language Wikipedia on a "fair use" basis (which is not allowed on Commons). To do that, you'd upload it to the English-language Wikipedia (not Commons) and use en:Template:Non-free use rationale.
- Jmabel ! talk 01:31, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
Hi, The bot is looking for a template telling the copyright status of the photograph. To determine the copyright status, some informations are necessary, at least the year and country of first publication and often the identity of the author. Did you scan this photo from the 1976 book ? if so, and if the photo is known, or can be reasonably assumed, to have been first published in Canada, then it should be fine if you add the following status templates to the description page, under "licensing": PD-CanadaPD-1996. Then, at the same time, you can remove the warning tags from the page. While you're there, please also add relevant categories. Also, why does the title say "low copy"? Do you have a better copy you could upload? -- Asclepias (talk) 01:40, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
You're right. The 1976 book may have had a notice for its textual contents. But the photograph was already in the public domain in Canada at that time, and likely used as such by the publisher. I don't know if a notice written about the texts by Grove and Pacey would sort of inadvertently grab the unidentified photographer's work. I suppose there may be some uncertainty unless the uploader can tell more about the whereabouts of the photograph between 1921 and 1976. -- Asclepias (talk) 15:57, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
OK. So PD-CanadaPD-1996 seems a pretty safe guess, but it would be good to check the source for photo credits and copyright notices. I'll add the templates to the photo, but someone may want to look into this further. - Jmabel ! talk 16:38, 28 February 2013 (UTC)
If the 1976 book used the image without permission from the photographer, then USA law states that the photo is unpublished. PD-1996 is only relevant for photos which were first published before 1 March 1989. If this wasn't published before that date, then you need to demonstrate that PD-US-unpublished applies. If this is a self-portrait, then PD-US-unpublished doesn't apply and then the image is still protected by copyright in the United States, unless it has also been published elsewhere. --Stefan4 (talk) 13:46, 2 March 2013 (UTC)

The image is public domain, and the photographer is unknown although it is very likely that it is a posed self-portrait by Grove. Thank you, Asclepias, for updating the licensing and removing warnings. -- Gbeey

Your thanks go to Jmabel. :) -- Asclepias (talk) 20:04, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

RE: additional info about a Wikipedia page, (can't find anywhere to go)

I was looking at a file on a black cross on a white background and the title said "File:Cross-Not-Pattee-Not-Maltese.png". The image displayed, and definiton given, closely resembles what I know to be called a 'Teutonic Black Cross'. The only major difference being the curved parts on the Teutonic Black Cross. Maybe there is a relationship between the two, such as a differential of an artist's perspective? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.31.85.22 (talk • contribs) 10:26, 2 March 2013‎ (UTC)

Link: File:Cross-Not-Pattee-Not-Maltese.png. According to the description this is a variation of en:Cross pattée. Teutonic knights used the more common form of cross patteé with curved arms, but the cross itself is much older. • The full resolution is only 1,699 × 1,000 pixels, so it wouldn't blow up to that size. Commons and Wikimedia Foundation are not involved in selling any images. You'd be free to print the existing image at any resolution that works for you, but it would be a mess blown up that big. Only one of two changes were applied after uploading a new version of the file.

Hi there. I've got a problem, and have no idea how to deal with it. It's with this file: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Cardiff_English_monophthongs_chart.svg

I've made HAPPY and COMMA look normal (not bold and without italics), but it still displays the A in COMMA as bolded. It's the same with the thumbnail, but when you click on the image it looks like it should. I don't know what else I can do, apart from reuploading the file over and over again. --Ahls23 (talk) 02:06, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

Inkscape can really produce some horrible SVG source. If you open the file in a plaintext editor, the source for the part that you're concerned with looks like this (with some whitespace changes to make it at least somewhat readable):
<tspan style="fill:#ff0000; fill-opacity: 1" id="tspan3986">COMM</tspan><tspan id="tspan3959" style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold; fill: #ff0000; fill-opacity: 1; -inkscape-font-specification: DejaVu Serif Bold Italic"><tspan style="font-style:normal; -inkscape-font-specification: DejaVu Serif Bold" id="tspan3044"><tspan style="font-weight: normal; -inkscape-font-specification: DejaVu Serif" id="tspan3045">A </tspan></tspan></tspan>
You'll probably want to move the A to the first tspan and remove the following three nested ones. For more help with SVG, Commons:Graphics village pump is usually the place to go to. LX (talk, contribs) 10:24, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for the help, but opening the file with Notepad just made it unreadable by Inkscape (which by extension would mean unreadable by anything, including Wikipedia I suppose). What did help was removing the ",<enter>COMMA" and leaving plain "STRUT", saving the file, then adding back manually (not by copy-paste, that would too work I think but that's not what I did) ",<enter>COMMA". I then saved and uploaded it on Wikimedia, and that made it work. Problem solved! --Ahls23 (talk) 11:18, 10 March 2013 (UTC)

I apologize for posing a basic question: a friend (who knows me as an experienced Wikipedia editor) asked me to upload several photographs she took to Wikipedia Commons for the broadest possible use, i.e., what I understand to be the Creative Commons ShareAlike 3.0 license. She gave me permission through email to do this. But as I am not the photographer myself, I am baffled as to what license template I should use, as everything I seem to run across has the "self" code in it, and the statement "I am the author of this work," etc., which of course would not be appropriate.

If someone could kindly give advice on my Talk page, and perhaps suggest a specific code template to use for this third-party authorization. would be most grateful. I have (in the past) been a somewhat prolific Wikipedia editor, but the proper uploading/licensing of images is something new to me. I have wanted for years to get good images of various writers who died before my time up on Wikipedia, and have a number of friends with good original images who are quite willing to donate them to Wikipedia Commons if I could only leap what's probably a very simple editing hurdle. Again, many thanks — Sandover (talk) 13:53, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

I left examples on your talk page here and at en:wp. If they were previously published they may need OTRS as well. Commons:OTRS--Canoe1967 (talk) 15:41, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

Windows 8 Start screen?

Would it be fine for me to take a screenshot of the Windows 8 start screen and upload it here (I have Windows 8 legally installed on my computer)? I haven't been able to find such an image on this site. I am unsure if this might infringe copyright.

If not, would I be allowed to upload a photo of my monitor, while it just so happened to be displaying the Windows 8 Start screen? I notice though there appear to be no direct screen-shots of Mac OS on this website, but there are of hardware running Mac OS. Same for Windows Phone.

Cheers. Gott wisst (talk) 01:36, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

If we consider the Windows 8 start screen to be copyrigted my MS, all these "tricks" don't work to bypass the copyright violation. --Túrelio (talk) 08:56, 9 March 2013 (UTC)
You cannot upload screenshots or photographs prominently featuring the user interfaces of Windows 8 or any other non-free software. A photograph of another subject which incidentally includes a screen displaying non-free software would be okay, but it doesn't sound like that's what you have in mind. Basically, if it can be used to illustrate an article on the software in question, it's not "just so happening" to be included. LX (talk, contribs) 08:59, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

I found this Public Domain movie at the Internet Archive and captured a frame of The Clovers performing to include in their infobox. It received a "no license" tag. I'm not too sure about where I went wrong - so I was wondering if someone here could take a look at the image tag and the original Internet Archive page (link is provided in the description at Wikicommons) and adjust the tag so it is correct. I've already added the image to the article.

I have no idea why that template above is here on the help desk, since there is no prose in any language to say what the question is. The page that is linked is currently tagged with and, indeed, no license is given for the file. - Jmabel ! talk 00:42, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

The date given on the page is an upload date, so no use in working out the copyright status. The voice is apparently that of someone who died in 1944, so this could well be public domain or about to become so in 2014 (70 years since death). If the underlying material is, indeed, Goethe, that is certainly in the public domain.

Can someone who knows German better than I help sort this out? - Jmabel ! talk 00:45, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi would uploading these images to a Flickr account be the easiest way for the Inspire Mars Foundation to set copyright status on individual images? Their website is basically just one page (http://inspirationmars.org ), which makes an online gallery on which copyright notices could be posted difficult. If Inspire Mars uploaded the slideshow media released at the National Press Club to a Flickr account and set copyright to Creative Commons Share and Share Alike, I could then fill out an OTRS ticket, note each image, etc. Would that be sufficient for establishing copyright? Thanks. EricMachmer (talk) 22:21, 7 March 2013 (UTC) --EricMachmer (talk) 22:21, 7 March 2013 (UTC)

The simplest way would be for inspirationmars.org to send an e-mail to OTRS releasing the images under an appropriate license. Ruslik (talk) 11:05, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

— Alan Denyer, in: Email from Jonathan Chaplin (Address of artist redacted by Senra)

What are my next steps? Do I upload the file with the above quoted permission (is the correct license in this case?) or do I send the image, along with the permissions document, to someone (would that be OTRS?) for verification first? I am unsure as I am not the license holder in this case and I have agreed with user:Jonathan Chaplin (via email) that I would help him with this.

--Senra (talk) 12:13, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Upload the image file and tag it with OTRS pending. Then you should forward the email from Alan Denyer, including this pdf and mentioning the (then known) filename, to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org (OTRS). If the permission is accepted, an OTRS volunteer will then add a so-called OTRS ticket to the image page and everything is fine. --Túrelio (talk) 14:01, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Why do you think these articles, which even include several photograpies, are "public domain"? One article is said to be from 1976, which is not that long away. Copyright usually last for 70 years after the death of the photographer. The other article, which also includes a photo, looks far more recent. --Túrelio (talk) 14:27, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks Turelio for the answer. one is 1976 the other 1995. They were both done about me and will be linked to a Wikipedia page (someone is working on it). So I do not know how to classify them. Help!--Sharky60 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sharky60 (talk • contribs) 15:20, 8 March 2013‎ (UTC)

Thanks. But, it seems you did not really understand the problem. So far there is no proof or evidence that these 2 images are free or "public domain". Both contain text as well as photographies and both are recent. You need to provide a written permission from all the photographers and from the authors who have written the text. Otherwise, both files will be deleted. --Túrelio (talk) 15:39, 8 March 2013 (UTC)

Based on your edits on en:Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Tommy Miranda, I'm guessing you're talking about creating an encyclopædia article on the English Wikipedia project. The site you're on right now is Wikimedia Commons, a media repository used by Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, and others. We do not host encyclopædia articles. You should be aware that English Wikipedia's guidelines very strongly discourage paid advocacy. LX (talk, contribs) 09:07, 9 March 2013 (UTC)

Okay, will do. Thanks! And whoops on the previous signature... Girona7 (talk) 00:33, 10 March 2013 (UTC)
Girona7, it looks like you're trying to use templates from English Wikipedia here on Commons. That won't work in most cases. With English Wikipedia's en:Template:Db-f9, it worked, because Db-f9 is a redirect to our slightly less cryptically named Copyvio template that can also accept the url parameter. The proper talk page notice to go with Copyvio and corresponding to the English Wikipedia's en:Template:Nothanks-sd is Copyvionote. You'll see the full text to add to the user's talk page if you click the text that says "Click here to show further instructions" after you've tagged a file.
Mono's response is probably based on the image currently being tagged with No permission since. For some unknown reason, Fastily removed your copyvio tag and replaced it with a tag that gives the uploader seven days to provide evidence that the copyright holder approved the stated license. Of course, there is no stated license, just a non sequitur statement that the image isn't protected by copyright and needs no permission because the photo was found on the Internet. The uploader obviously hasn't contacted the copyright holder, and waiting for some permission to arrive is obviously going to be fruitless. Anyway, Image permission is the talk page notice that goes with No permission since. Copyvionote would be the one to go with your original (and more appropriate) tagging. Uploading svg version of NYPD logo - jpg image is already on commons (since 2009)

My apologies if I'm being too obtuse.

There is presently a jpg image of the shoulder patch used by the NYPD on the Commons, here: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b5/Nypdpatch.jpg

I have an svg version of the shoulder patch which I created myself based on images of the patch available online. I'd like to contribute the svg image to the commons if possible, but I am thoroughly confused by the various copyright rules on the commons. The information page for the jpg image - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Nypdpatch.jpg - states that the jpg image should be acceptable under the fair use doctrine; however, it is entirely unclear to me how to determine if the image I have created qualifies or not. If it's acceptable, I'd be happy to upload it (if I can figure that part out as well).

I realize that this question might be a little hard to answer without my image itself; however, I didn't want to upload it without first knowing if it's acceptable and I don't currently have any place to host it.

Two photos for commons

I tried to upload two pictures on a site written about me and there appears to be questions about the copyright ownership. One photo was a portrait of me (Roger L. Schlaifer) taken by my wife and one was a photograph of Andy Warhol and me taken by a former employee as a work for hire. I will warrant ownership of both photos.

There are numerous articles supporting all that the writer of the article put on the site, yet the sire isn't up. The only change I would like to make is that the site be listed as Roger Schlaifer since few know of the middle initial. What needs to be done next? My technical skills are minimal.

Thanks.

Roger

  • Several things:
    • It would help if you would clarify "a site written about me" by providing a link. Are you talking about a Wikipedia article (I don't offhand see one for your name) or something somewhere else?
    • I'm not sure what "I will warrant ownership" means. Physical ownership of the photos is not relevant to intellectual property ownership (e.g. ownership of the copyright).
    • If the pictures have been published elsewhere without a clear statement of free license and are now to be uploaded to Commons, we need a statement asserting copyright and granting a free license. See Commons:Licensing#Acceptable licenses for an explanation of what constitute acceptable licenses and Commons:OTRS for how to email us the relevant release of permission.
    • I presume "sire" is just a typo for site, but even so I can't work out what the first sentence of your second paragraph means. What article, what site? And of course we can't begin to answer what needs to be done next until you help sort that out.
    • It would be helpful if you would end your posts in discussions such as this with ~~~~, which will be automatically turned into a link to your account, plus a timestamp.

However, the Wikimedia Foundation cannot provide formal certification that the uploaders were correct. You might be able to get a more formal statement by contacting the people who uploaded them, but it's hard to imagine why they would give it to you. If someone asked me for a legally binding formal statement about the provenance of a photo and they were not offering me any compensation for that, I wouldn't do it. You're asking someone to take on a legal liability for no financial consideration. - Jmabel ! talk 01:46, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

adding a picture to a page with permission of author

Hello,

Saskia De Coster (http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saskia_De_Coster) has made the cover of her newest novel herself. She has asked me to change her old cover in the new one but now it doesn't get accepted because it is a book cover. It is her cover. You can find it on her website: http://www.saskiadecoster.com/ I have tried more times to upload on her wikipage but it gets blocked. How can i fix this or can you help me? With kind regards inge — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ingejooris (talk • contribs) 20:59, 12 March 2013‎ (UTC)

  • For materials that have already appeared elsewhere and are uploaded by someone other than their creator, we need you to email explicit permission, as described at COM:OTRS. And you should upload to a distinct name, not overwrite the existing image. - Jmabel ! talk 01:48, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Files deleted and I want to restore them

Hi! I have added several files that I have found on Pinterest page of the company about which I am making the Wiki page. And they have been deleted. How can I restore them and provide more detailed info about the source? Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Lapoletta (talk • contribs)

Any image needs to have a valid license, preferably CC-BY-SA. "More info about the source" is not enough. Ruslik (talk) 11:43, 13 March 2013 (UTC)

Software for speech recognition

I read with great interest that when I speak in Hindi it will be typed in Hindi in my computer with a software that has been developed by Shrutlekhan-Rajbhasha which writes, "Shrutelkhan-Rajbhasa is a Hindi language speech recognition software application developed by C-DAC in collaboratiion with IBM, It takes Hindi sound as input and converts to Devanagari text as putput". I would like to purchase this software. Where can I get and what is the cost? Can you please help me? I will be happy to make a donation to your organization also.

My name is Tika Thapa and I live in USA. This software would be wonderful for my folks back at home who then can read in their native language for lack of English language.

Watchlist style changed

I thought surely some would have asked about this already, but I couldn't find anything in the archives here or at the Village Pump. My watchlist formatting changed a while ago. It used to be "normal", which would look like:

(diff | hist) . . Category:Paintings of Greece‎; 18:01 . . (+27)‎ . . Ixtzib (talk | contribs)‎ (Added parent categories) [rollback]

and now it says:

     m ! 18:01 Category:Paintings of Greece‎ (diff | hist) . . (+27)‎ . . Ixtzib (talk | contribs) (Added parent categories) [rollback]

Also, the font for the stuff just before the filename is in a small monospace font.

Is this just me? Is everyone's watchlist like this now? Is there a simple way to get it back to the formatting used on the other projects? WhatamIdoing (talk) 00:42, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

I do not see a change, my watchlist shows the first format with (diff | hist) in the beginning (MonoBook skin). MKFI (talk) 08:32, 19 March 2013 (UTC)
Sounds like the setting "Group changes by page in recent changes and watchlist (requires JavaScript)" in your preferences has been changed. You'll want that box unchecked to get what you call "normal" format. LX (talk, contribs) 08:38, 19 March 2013 (UTC)

I am not sure what you mean by "upload article". Here at Commons there are no articles, only media files. Over at Wikipedia there are articles, but they are not uploaded, they are edited. Anyway, if you meant to know how many people accessed a specific article on Wikipedia, here you go: http://stats.grok.se/ . --Túrelio (talk) 11:50, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Again, please sign your comments with ~~~~. I'll give you the same answer I gave in #Missing a view counter further down the page. You can use http://stats.grok.se/ or tools:~emw/wikistats/. Select Commons as the project and specify the file name including the namespace and the file type extension. I believe this only includes views of the actual file description and not views of thumbnails in articles or hotlinked uses on other sites. I'm not sure whether it includes localised file description pages of files hosted on Commons (e.g. en:File:Catherine Palace in Tsarskoe Selo, Golden Gates.jpg). Copyright help regarding File:CAPTCHA Banner.jpg

Hi, I need help setting the copyrights for the file mentioned in the title. I think it's not copyrighted and its source is unknown.

--Galzigler (talk) 22:21, 11 March 2013 (UTC)

Commons can't accept files without a free license. Since you don't know where it came from, it's impossible to know if it was licensed under a free license. Works are copyrighted by default, so unless you have a source, license, and permission from the author Commons cannot accept that file. Mono 22:28, 11 March 2013 (UTC)
That's why I asked for help, I don't know what its source. It can be found on many sites. Anyway, can't it be defined as simple geometric shapes and/or text? Galzigler (talk) 17:30, 12 March 2013 (UTC)
The meaning was, it was published and got popular, so it's hard to find were it began. None of the sites which are using this image claimed ownership on it as the creator or referred the ownership to another person. The question is, if something like an Internet meme can be copyrighted. Those are published totally ignoring of copyrights issues, so it's really hard to tell who was the first to publish it. Galzigler (talk) 15:24, 15 March 2013 (UTC)
Yes, pictures that become Internet memes can be copyrighted. It says so right in the copyright law, that pictures are copyright upon creation.--Prosfilaes (talk) 22:11, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

The Eva Fidjeland page

Hello, Yesterday I added requested information on my Commons Wiki page, about my reconstruction work for the Vasa Museum in Stockholm, Sweden, among my other merits. Within some minutes my information was deleted. It seems to me that I somehow have been blacklisted, as every piece of information I contribute to the Wiki is consequently automatically deleted. Would you kindly investigate why this is so? I feel certain that some mistake has been made conserning my user status, as I cannot see any conceivable explanation for the deletion. Perhaps the reader of this message could add it to Wikimedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Evafidjeland (talk • contribs)

your page it outside the scope of this project (Commons) as it is here as a repository of freely licensed images. As such your biography might be acceptable on Wikipedia if it falls within their scope. Thanks --Herby talk thyme 16:05, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
Just to be clear: it would appear that prior to this question, your only edits on Wikimedia Commons were to File:Eva_Fidjeland.jpeg. Despite its title (your name), it appears to be an artistic image of some sort, not a portrait or similar. As such, it's not at all obvious how it would fall in Commons scope. Also, you don't seem to have granted any sort of free license for it, so it is likely to be deleted. Please see Commons:Licensing#Acceptable licenses; also, because this is an artistic image, assuming it is considered to be within scope you might need to go through the process described at COM:OTRS to clarify that you are the artist and you are granting a license. - Jmabel ! talk 00:43, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

This is a postcard published more than 100 years ago. It's author is dead before 1930 (>70 years). I guess this is now free of rights.

--Buckfast fr (talk) 09:22, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

If you're sure the author is dead more than 70 years ago (the card being more than 100 years old is not in itself a proof of that), just add PD-old-70 to your file. Jastrow (Λέγετε) 09:31, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

Missing a view counter

Hallo Pro's! First of all, sorry please for my horrable English. I'm quite new in Wikimedia Commons (a greenhorn) and not so familiar with all the functions. From Wipipedia (German) I'm used to click the view counter (Abrufstatistik) under my articles to check how often they were opened. There is a similar function in Wikipedia (englisch) as well, but there is no button and the whole procedure is a little complicating - sad. In Wikimedia Commons I miss such a tool now. Maybe I was just too stupid to activate this function/tool lill now. Could someone help me - or others who are interested as well? Thank you very much!--Frank Gosebruch (talk) 09:44, 15 March 2013 (UTC)

You can use http://stats.grok.se/ or tools:~emw/wikistats/. Select Commons as the project and specify the file name including the namespace and the file type extension. Thanks LX, you're great! That's what I was lookin' for. Why not to implement a link for one of these tools in every picture page?--Frank Gosebruch (talk) 09:02, 16 March 2013 (UTC)
My guess is, it's because it's more interesting to know how often a file is displayed than how many times a file description page is visited.
There is a very similar post at Commons:Forum#Betrachtungszähler - View Counter. A link was added to the footer of action=info (the Page information). -- Rillke(q?) 11:45, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

Question

Hi! I have contacted an Uzbek actress/singer personally on Facebook to get some photographs. She acted in a film together with one of my old acquaintances and that's why I was able to get in touch with her. She has sent me many very nice photos. She gave me full permission to upload them to Commons. How can I upload them without much hassle? I don't want to E-mail Commons admins because I haven't received a reply for my last E-mail that I sent months ago. Can I just upload the photos as my own work? She sent personal photos that were taken during her long career. They haven't been published anywhere. Nataev (talk) 21:11, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

You can't upload photos as your own work if they're not your own work, and a photo is not your own work unless you held the camera and pressed the shutter release button. You'll need the copyright holder's permission to publish the files under a free license. Normally, the copyright holder is the author, i.e. the photographer – not the person appearing in the photos. LX (talk, contribs) 22:56, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
Yes, you're right. But the photos I have are personal photos that were taken by her family members, friends, herself, etc. The problem is that most of them were taken using an iPhone. Maybe I should not upload them after all. Nataev (talk) 23:01, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
Personal photos are generally no different from other photos as far as copyright is concerned, and her family members and friends are just as entitled as a professional photographer to decide who may use their work and how. You'll have to get an appropriate permission from the appropriate people and send it in to our permissions archive in order to upload them. This process is quite slow because of a lack of active volunteers, which is unfortunate, but that's the way it is. LX (talk, contribs) 23:30, 22 March 2013 (UTC)

Animated Icons for Wikipedia

Here's my proposal example;

Educational institution IP address
To edit, please create an account at home and log in with it here.

Due to persistent vandalism (see edit log), anonymous editing from your school, library, or educational institution's IP address is blocked (disabled). You will continue to have access to read the encyclopedia. If you are logged in but still unable to edit, please follow these instructions. To prevent abuse, account creation via this IP address might also be disabled.

If account creation is disabled and you are unable to create an account elsewhere, you can request one by filling out this form. Please check on this list that the username you choose has not already been taken. If editing is required for class projects, please have your instructor or network administrator contact us (with reference to this IP address) at the Unblock Ticket Request System with a contact email address that is listed on your school's website. Thanks for your cooperation.

It's the Wikipedia schoolblock template... With an animated nuvola apps edu miscellaneous. Here's how I did it; I downloaded the image, went into Inkspace, and, deleting un-needed stuff for each of the 3 layers, exported 3 layers. One with the chalkboard, one with the chalk, and one with the letters. I imported them in Anime Studio Pro 7.0, and, at 40 fps, traced the chalk over the letters in time for me to say "To edit, please creature an account at home and log in with it here.". Then I masked the letters with bold letters blended in with the chalk board gradient and as the chalk traced, distorted them to un-cover the areas the chalk writes on. I uploaded it to Youtube here where you can see it in a higher frame rate in HD. I converted this into a gif and uploaded it here. The video is 40 fps (20 fps on YouTube) at 1200x1200. The gif is 40fps and 282x238 pixels. I know it's possible to make it an animated SVG but I don't know all of that complicated script stuff or how I made one. This is just an example. Ezekiel53746 (talk) 01:46, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

No matter what I try, I get a huge gif when I try to have the quality at 24fps and at least higher than 400px. This is ridiculous. I don't know how to make animated SVGs, there has to be some way. Ezekiel53746 (talk) 02:31, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
  • I, for one, find animated icons like this incredibly annoying and distracting. I literally have to cover them up or scroll them out of the way to read anything that is written near them, and I can't imagine I'm totally alone in that. Please be very sparing in using anything like this as part of templates, etc. - Jmabel ! talk 05:41, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
Alright then. I'm fine with that. Also, let's mention that the icon I used is a low quality gif that I don't know how to make higher. :/ Ezekiel53746 (talk) 21:42, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
I think there was this feature in the gif maker that could only play the gif once and not loop it. Maybe that will help? Ezekiel53746 (talk) 21:44, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
Nope, can't get that effect on Wikimedia Commons. NVM. It works! But I'll still deal with the fact if my idea isn't accepted. After all, I CAN just use it on MY wiki (made by Wikia). Ezekiel53746 (talk) 22:19, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
Within closer inspection, I noticed the image will play once once it's visible in the scren. This is pretty convinient to me. To see it again, just refresh. Ezekiel53746 (talk) 22:24, 17 March 2013 (UTC)

  • Some questions and remarks:
    • Question: What exactly is zaped.info? It seems to be some weird commercial wrapper around Wikipedia. What does it have to do with any of this? Sorry if this should be clear to me, but I don't get it.
    • Question: Similarly, what is this about a "page on amazon"?
    • I take it that the two photos in question are File:Roger Schlaifer portrait.jpg and File:Roger Schlaifer and Andy Warhol survey CPK prints.jpg, both of which were, indeed, deleted because at the time they appeared to lack permissions.
    • 2 more questions: did you email the above grant of permissions to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org, as explained at COM:OTRS? And, if so, did you indicate what two pictures it applies to (File:Roger Schlaifer portrait.jpg and File:Roger Schlaifer and Andy Warhol survey CPK prints.jpg).
    • I would also prefer to have my middle initial deleted on the page: If you are referring to something on zaped.info, to the best of my knowledge that has nothing to do with Wikimedia Foundation. If you are referring to something on the English-language Wikipedia, that is, like Wikimedia Commons, a project of the Wikimedia Foundation, but it's a separate project. However, I don't see any page about you there, so I have no idea what page there you would be referring to.
    • Do I correctly understand that User:OddsMan is you?
    • Please sign your posts in discussions here with ~~~~, which the wiki will turn into a signature and timestamp.

If you are asking how you nominate something for deletion, usually you want to use the "nominate for deletion" button on the image's file page. That will fill out all of the appropriate templates, etc., for the deletion process. And there is more to it than just filling out one template. - Jmabel ! talk 01:41, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Company Pictures

I work for a company and would like to upload our logo as well as some other pictures created by our company to Wikipedia. What is the correct copyright I should use? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jandyno (talk • contribs) 16:55, 21 March 2013‎ (UTC)

You could use PD-textlogo for textlogos. All other files need com:otrs-permission from their respective copyright holders. --McZusatz (talk) 17:39, 21 March 2013 (UTC)
It depends on the logo, if it displays a level of original creativity sufficient to be copyrightable, or not, and, if it is copyrightable, how free its author or copyright holder wants it to be and then you would have to ask whoever in the company is legally in charge of dealing with the copyrights. Please see the help page Commons:Threshold of originality for more information. -- Asclepias (talk) 17:48, 21 March 2013 (UTC)

Android Commons App

Hi I'm a user of the Commons Android App and I have noticed that If I try to upload any file with a dot in the name, it gets queued until the infinite. I've uploaded lots of files, but all the files with a dot in the name have been queued for 2 days. Also, I've uploaded some files with / sign in the name and the program changed the Name, I presume it dosen't recognise the sign. But the problem with the files with the dot is urgent. ¿Can anyone fix it?--Coentor (talk) 14:20, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

We can't. But you can report it as described at http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Mobile_QA/Commons_uploads#Reporting_bugs

Art work artist identification

I bought a Limited Edition, signed & numberd print at an estate sale many years but the last name of the artist is so scribbled, I can't read it, so I cannot identify their name & this is my question to Wikipedia. Can anyone identify the artist's last name. If I can't id who to ask for permission to upload a pic of the print, what would my next step be. If I knew who to ask, I wouldn't need to upload it. I don't want to use the artwork for an article, I only want to find out if any one of your experts can id the artist's last name. I thought if I uploaded it, maybe someone could id the aftist's signature. I have googled till I'm blind but I have not been able to find info about artists who did art work for the 1988AT&T Thunderbird Balloon Classics. The only name I have come up with for artwork for the hot air balloon classics belongs to a photographer. I have not found other copies of the print in any of the Poster or Print On Line Stores. Since I can't tell what the 1st letter to her last name is, I can't look under any of the List of Artist's names that I have used very successfully in the past. It would take years? Can any one help me. Since I don't know if it is free or not free, can I upload my pics of the hot air balloons just for a few minutes so someone there could take a quick look at it & then remove it? Please, please help.

Thank you very much,

Barb Greer

I found one by a Rick Vaughn from 1988: http://www.art4now.com/cgi/commerce.cgi?preadd=action&key=ST-19880302 That may not be it though. What city was the 1988AT&T Thunderbird Balloon Classics in? Ebay searches may help as well.--Canoe1967 (talk) 21:21, 20 March 2013 (UTC)
Have you tried using an image search program like http://images.google.com/imghp?hl=en to see whether anyone has scanned and uploaded the image to the internet?
Another option is to directly contact the successor organization, which is Arizona Balloon Classic, or perhaps a historical society in Glendale, Arizona (where the event used to be held) to see whether they could put you in touch with a person who might know the answer. You cannot use a locally uploaded photo from another Wikipedia project without transferring it to the project where you wish to use it or to Commons. Based on Google translations, the license tag used in he:File:HaRav Amram Aburabia -Aburbeh chief Rabbi of Petach Tikwa.jpg and he:File:Or zaruaa - synagogue built by Ha Rav Amram ABURBEH Jerusalem 1926.jpg is essentially PD-self, and he:User:עמא claims to have personally created the photos in 2006. That is demonstrably false, as the subject died in 1966. Since only the legitimate copyright holder can release a photo into the public domain, the PD-self tag is bogus. To determine if these photos are still protected by copyright, we need truthful information who created them as well as the author's date of death (if applicable). Unless the copyright has expired, we'll need licensing permission from the legitimate copyright holder (i.e. the photographer or their heirs). As it stands, the photos would not be accepted on Commons and should not be hosted on the Hebrew Wikipedia either. LX (talk, contribs) 10:33, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

Hi Hurricane, Wikimedia Commons hosts neither biographies, articles nor anything that primarily serves to advertise for a product or a company. The contents of your user page looked like an ordinary promotional web page but we are not a provider of ordinary web pages introducing people or businesses. Wikimedia Commons has a scope. Please make yourself familiar with this scope. Media and texts that are out of this scope, will be deleted. Regards, --AFBorchert (talk) 12:53, 22 March 2013 (UTC)
You can request speedy deletion by clicking the 'edit' button at the top of the page and pasting this:

into the file. Replace "YOUR REASON HERE" with an explanation that you're the author, that it's an unnecessary picture of yourself, and you would like it deleted. Save the page. Check back in a few days and see whether the picture has been deleted. If not, then you'll have to go through the longer, formal Commons:Deletion process.

You inherited many photographs. People usually inherit the copyrights to photographs taken by the dead person. People usually do not inherit the copyrights to photographs taken by another person.
Here is an example: My friend's father died. Her father painted many pictures. Her father took many photographs. Other people took many photographs and gave him copies of their photographs. She is the only child, and she inherited everything.
My friend therefore owns:
  1. The paintings her father made, and the copyright to all of the paintings her father made.
  2. The photographs her father took, and the copyright to all of the photographs her father made.
  3. The photographs her father inherited from other people, which are divided into two groups:
    • (a) photographs that her father inherited the copyright for, usually meaning photographs made by the person her father inherited the photographs from (for example, snapshots made by his parents, who left everything to him).
    • (b) photographs that her father did not inherit the copyright for, usually meaning photographs made by someone other than her father's legators (for example, a professional photographer hired by her father's parents to make a portrait).
  4. The photographs his friends took and gave her father, but not the copyright to the photographs his friends took.
She could put #1, #2 and #3(a) on Commons and use them in Wikipedia articles, but not the pictures from #3(b) or #4. WhatamIdoing (talk) 04:36, 25 March 2013 (UTC)

Problem with interface

Two examples of the problem.

I've been having some problems with the Commons interface the past few days. Intermittently of course, so hard to pin down. Basically, the non-HTML elements don't always seem to load. On the right is an example - on the top, Commons:Upload Wizard, at the bottom an edit window. As you can see in the edit window, the toolbar hasn't loaded. On uploadWizard the button seems 3D (usually 2D) and that table should be across the window or something. I've also noticed the "your edit was saved" popup not show properly, and instead display behind the Commons logo.

Any suggestions what has happened and how I can fix this? I have not noticed any problems on other websites. -mattbuck (Talk) 22:02, 23 March 2013 (UTC)

145 year old file

I have a file from a US patent (http://davidbuckley.net/DB/HistoryMakers/1868DederickSteamMan_files/patents.png) produced 145 years ago. According to united states copyright law, copyrights expire "70 years after the author's death" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/US_copyright_law). I am unaware either of when the author died, or if the patent would belong to the author (Zadoc P. Dederick) or the US government. The image upload wizard says to wait 150 years. Can I upload this image now? --HighFlyingFish (talk) 00:27, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

  • Yes. I'm pretty certain filing a patent qualifies as "publication", so this is PD-US-1923. - Jmabel ! talk 02:59, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
  • Filing a patent doesn't constitute publication, but patents are published, either upon issuance or earlier at the request of the filer. You may be able to find the actual publication date easily, but if not, the year of issuance can be safely assumed (since it's the later of the two options). The inventor is the author/copyright holder for our purposes, although I'm not actually certain that it is possible to hold or to enforce copyrights on a patent's specification or claims: The entire purpose of a patent system is to get knowledge of the invention spread to the widest possible number of people, and allowing the inventor to control distribution of the information would seriously undermine that purpose. WhatamIdoing (talk) 16:55, 26 March 2013 (UTC)
See w:Copyright on the content of patents and in the context of patent prosecution. In the US, patents generally aren't copyrightable. I know of nothing about non-US patents.--Prosfilaes (talk) 01:29, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

Thanks in advance.--Freemesm (talk) 15:06, 26 March 2013 (UTC)

Object to path will convert all SVG objects (ellipses, rectangles, stars, and text) to vector paths. The text is no longer a string of characters referencing vector objects stored in a font, it's now a set of outlines identical to the fonts letters. This isn't a bad thing—it improves display quality here on wikimedia, but its good practice to group all the text and make an invisible backup duplicate (with opacity 0) before converting to paths.—Kelvinsong (talk) 00:08, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

This picture is from the english Magazine 'The Autocar', issue October 11th, 1935, Page 674. I took a photo directly from the magazine page. The same picture is around on different pages in the internet, for example this one: http://alvisarchive.com/p-p-s-posed-probed-and-solved/ . An author can not be found. He's not named in the magazine, and the magazine doesn't exist today (as far as I know). So I think using and showing this picture might be ok. • Being "around on the Internet" can mean little more than that a lot of people are careless with copyrights, and the magazine no longer existing just means that it would be harder to track down any rights-holder, not that there is no rights-holder. - Jmabel ! talk 00:12, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Determining copyright status for two images

Hi, could somebody help with determining if the following two images are PD:

  1. Image 1 from this source
  2. Image 2 from this source

Both images are of the British sculptor George Edward Wade, who died in 1933 according to this. The bust in image 1 was created in 1902, so that one must have been taken that year or before. The statue in image 2 was created in 1893. However, I couldn't find any details on the publishing dates of either image or the photographers. Is it safe to assume, based on the information here, that these images are in the public domain? Chamal TC 16:54, 27 March 2013 (UTC)

I think we may be in a "can't be proven" situation, but it's very likely that it's in the public domain. We need to analyze the artwork and the photograph separately.
  • Per Commons:Copyright rules by subject matter#Art (copies of), the artwork is public domain because it was created/published before 1923 and the artist died 80 years ago.
  • Per Commons:Copyright rules#Dealing with uncertainty, we have two problems: When was it first published (not created), and who is the photographer (or, more pointfully, when did the photographer die)? If the first publication was pre-1923—which seems likely to me, because few people make portraits like this and then sit on them for more than thirty years—then it's public domain.
Have you tried sending e-mail to the website owners to request more information about the source of these images? WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:24, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Template:PD-Art-100? I don't speak the above language.--Canoe1967 (talk) 17:57, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
Ich habe es für Sie gemacht.[6]
(I added pd-art for a plain scan of two-dimensional artwork whose author has been dead for more than 100 years.) WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:40, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

-- Asclepias (talk) 20:48, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Suspicious about copyright claim

This photograph depicts a middle-aged woman, Princess Ghislaine of Monaco. Ghislaine (1900-1991) died 21 years ago. The uploader claims that the photograph is his or her "own work" and that it was taken less than half a year ago. How is that possible? Surtsicna (talk) 19:57, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

It seems to be a simple crop of the photo at http://madmonaco.blogspot.com/2010/10/birthday-of-princess-ghislaine.html so I've sent it off for deletion as a copyvio. WhatamIdoing (talk) 20:46, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Copyright help regarding File:Amygdaloideae.jpg

Can't figure out how to enter copyright status on File:Amygdaloideae.jpg. I think that I've read every piece of linked documentation. I made a composite image from 4 commons images that have licenses that specify "Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported, 2.5 Generic, 2.0 Generic and 1.0 Generic license." or " Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 Generic license" or "Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0 Unported license.". I've listed the sources and the authors of those originals. What code to I need to enter on the file to satisfy the copyright specification? Thanks.

The template  ? -- Asclepias (talk) 21:29, 28 March 2013 (UTC)
Thanks. I've taken your word for it. Sminthopsis84 (talk) 21:51, 28 March 2013 (UTC)

Hepburn's Brownie Recipe

Please correct your article. She spelled her name as "Kathryn," not "Katherine." Whoever wrote the article or anyone else should always check the name spellings.

w:Katharine Hepburn has a different spelling. Category:Katharine Hepburn hasn't got a Brownie Recipe but we may have a file not in that cat.--Canoe1967 (talk) 22:15, 29 March 2013 (UTC)
Found it: http://noblepig.com/2009/02/hollywood-style/ You would have to email that site to correct it. http://noblepig.com/contact/ --Canoe1967 (talk) 22:20, 29 March 2013 (UTC)

Email received

Something else I received an email by Mono? I asked myself what this means?--Annr 13:52, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

User talk:Mono? You should be able to email them back using Commons:Emailing users to clarify why they sent it. You can also use their talk page if it is something that is fine for the public to see.--Canoe1967 (talk) 14:35, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Are these images properly licensed?

Are these images properly licensed? If they are, they would make a great addition to articles about Casiraghi. Surtsicna (talk) 15:35, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

The couple I looked at are. You may find http://wikipedia.ramselehof.de/flinfo.php the easist way to upload them. Only trusted users and the flickrbot can verify the licenses though.--Canoe1967 (talk) 17:18, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
No, several of those are copyright violations. For example, http://www.flickr.com/photos/myalexis/8115843990/ is grabbed from http://www.zimbio.com/photos/Charlotte+Casiraghi/Charlotte+Casiraghi+Attends+Cartier+Exhibition/FbeL81PUJUu. LX (talk, contribs) 17:54, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Can't upload an SVG version of a PNG

At the Wikipedia Illustration Graphics Lab I took the request of making an SVG version of File:SR Montenegro coa.png. When I tried to upload File:SR Montenegro coa.svg, I got an error saying that the file name is too similar to the PNG. I've never had this problem before when making SVG versions of existing PNG files. Is this a new bug, or is there a correct way to do this? --Slashme (talk) 11:46, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

According to COM:FORUM#Upload gleicher Name, this is a new feature in MediaWiki. -- Rillke(q?) 11:19, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Ugh! Thanks for alerting me. I've responded there, but I'm going to see whether a bug has been raised against it yet. --Slashme (talk) 19:32, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

OK, I've listed the bug against Mediawiki. If that's the wrong project, please correct me! --Slashme (talk) 19:41, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Willie L. Williams

I would like to add a picture of former LAPD Chief Williams but the on photo I could find was here http://www.lapdonline.org/chiefs_of_the_los_angeles_police_department and here http://www.lapdonline.org/chiefs_of_the_los_angeles_police_department/content_basic_view/33121 and was wondering if I could use it? If yes under watch PD or license?TucsonDavidU.S.A. 13:58, 30 March 2013 (UTC)

You may not use anything from that website, because all of it is copyrighted.[7] WhatamIdoing (talk) 17:45, 30 March 2013 (UTC)
I think images taken by employees of the state of CA are public domain. Same as New Mexico and Florida. You could email someone from http://www.lapdonline.org/contact_us and see if they can confirm this and/or provide a higher resolution image if it is PD. See:Commons:Deletion requests/File:Bill Gates mugshot.png--Canoe1967 (talk) 14:28, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
No, the Los Angeles Police Department is not part of the State Government of California, so PD-CAGov does not apply. LX (talk, contribs) 20:41, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Copyright help regarding File:Johannes von Matuschka.jpg

Hello I am having a problem changing the licensing status of johannes von matuschka.jpg . the fotographer provides free licensing / free copyright, therfore the picture is free from copyright restrictions whatsoever, complying to the conditions of wikicommons. My question (the picture has been removed twice from the wikipedia entry of johannes von matuschka):

how ca I change the tag (license) if the picture is already uploaded on wikicommons? or do I have to remove the picture (from wikicommons) and have to upload it again with the correct tag?

Thanks in advance

cheers bronco

--Don bronco (talk) 15:35, 31 March 2013 (UTC)

Since it published on the net the photographer may need to use Commons:OTRS email. Probably an email sent from an official source.--Canoe1967 (talk) 20:30, 31 March 2013 (UTC)
