Valued image

File:Von Karman vortices off Rishiri Island, Japan.jpg was closed as a valued image, but the template was never added to the image. Schuylar (talk) 00:12, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

User:VICbot added the {{VI}} template to File:Von Karman vortices off Rishiri Island, Japan.jpg in this diff, which looks to have occurred one minute after you posted this question. I have no idea whether the close timing is merely coincidental. --Teratornis (talk) 03:51, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Image of statue

Hoping someone might be able to help me with a confusing licensing issue. I'm trying to figure out if this image (or perhaps a better photo of the same statue) is permissible on Wikipedia. I've read up on "freedom of panorama" which would seem to indicate that images of sculptures installed in public places prior to 1923 are public domain and photos of these are okay to upload. First, am I correct in that? Second, pertaining to this particular sculpture, my research indicates it was sculpted in 1921 (but not cast or installed in a public place), the artist died in 1944 and it was finally cast and installed in 1976. Does this mean it was essentially "published" in 1976 and therefore is not public domain? Curious situation on this one. Any help would be appreciated. You're a bit confused - take a look at Commons:Freedom of panorama. If the sculpture is in the public domain due to age, then any freely-licensed photo of the statue is acceptable, regardless of where it is located. Otherwise, it must be in a nation where freedom of panorama exists and it must meet the conditions for that nation, which generally include permanent installation in a public location. This case is a bit difficult because it's not clear to me whether the act of casting and installation was a creative act which attracts its own copyright protection or not - I kinda suspect the answer is no, but I'm not certain. The statue is indeed in the US. So, if I'm reading [[COM:FOP#United_States] correctly, the date of installation in a public place is the key, yes? So, 1976 would make this out of bounds, I suppose. Historical Perspective (talk) 18:32, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

Copyrighted?

From COM:CB#2D art (paintings etc.):
  • If the original artwork is old enough to be in the public domain it is OK to upload a scan or a photocopy (from any source) or a photograph you have taken yourself. A faithful photographic copy of a public domain 2D artwork such as a painting may always be uploaded to Commons, even if the photograph was taken by somebody else and even if no photographer's licence has been provided: see Commons: When to use the PD-Art tag

although everything seemed to be in order. One explanation could be that there is a missing '}}' after the description. It was when I tried to correct that that I got the spam message...

Oh, now I see! I think I somehow got two images uploaded... please remove one of them, and make the unvisible information visible. This was my first try with the basic uploader, it seems to easily make to uploads at the same time.

Also I had another accident some weeks ago, the name for http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:IT134609_fullsize-1-.jpg (File:IT134609 fullsize-1-.jpg) needs to be corrected. It should be Larsson_Bridge_Grez.jpg or something like that.

It was the missing }} to close the language field {{en|.... This must be closed, otherwise the information template not continues and the software thinks, the "source=" and "author=" is part of the {{En}} and that template doesnt have source or author parameters. suite100 is on the spam blacklist of meta:Spam blacklist, but for some reason I was able to edit File:Gossaert three royal children.jpg which also has a link - dont know what happened. Thank you for the answer, Martin. Somehow I managed to add the missing '}}' (or, more exactly, it just happened after restarting Wikimedia Commons), but after that the source link turned unclickable. I do wonder why a site like suite101 would be in the spam list... Just like you I was able to upload another picture with the same source link. Well, I guess there is little left to do. By inserting one of the Copyright_tags into the "Permission" field, e.g.
|Permission={{pd-user|Erictimewell}}
By adding {{pd-user|Erictimewell}}, you release your photo with the following statement:
      
Public domain This work has been released into the public domain by its author, Erictimewell. This applies worldwide.

In some countries this may not be legally possible; if so:
Erictimewell grants anyone the right to use this work for any purpose, without any conditions, unless such conditions are required by law.

If you look at Copyright_tags, you will see that there are a few others, notably "free use" ones at Commons:Copyright_tags#Other_free_tags.
For future uploads of your own photos, you might want to use the option "entirely my own work" from Commons:Upload, you can pick the license from a list (see "Licensing:" section) and it gets added directly. -- User:Docu at 06:10, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

How to deal with pictures that are not free but I have permission from the owner?

As it is rather obvious from the subject of my post: I have troubles in finding decent license to some pictures that are not free but the owner of the pictures gave his permission to upload them to the commons. I couldn't find any information about the process of how to attach the permission of the owner to the pictures' page and how to include it to the license.

Another file with a missing image

As the user who prepared it is still active, you might want to mention it to Mitchazenia. Otherwise you could just tag it with {{speedy|no file}}. Probably the bot had problems uploading the file thus it needs to be deleted anyways.
One could also attempted to upload it manually and flag it for license review. -- User:Docu at 12:27, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Template "LighthouseArc"

Comparing the year ones to the first one I found on Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:LighthouseArc, I fixed one entry. Not sure why the template would need that many parameters though. Decade looks ok. Image Permission

The Facebook discussion screen shot that you linked to mentions what appears to be a noncommercial restriction. We can't have that on Commons. See Commons:Project scope#Must be freely licensed or public domain. In the event that the creator will release the works under a free license, you can follow the instructions in COM:OTRS to document that. --Teratornis (talk) 08:35, 17 June 2010 (UTC)

If you don't find enough images on Wikimedia Commons, you can also search Flickr for more freely licensed images, using the {{Flickr free}} template like this:
  • Search Flickr for images with the keywords: hotel under these licenses: cc-by or cc-by-sa
which finds 162,559 results, although many of the images are not exterior architecture shots of hotels. You did not specify whether you want exterior or interior shots, or both. Also try the search box to the left, and see Category:Marriott hotels. --Teratornis (talk) 21:44, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

I think he wants to put 2 (or 3) colored squares in categories like Category:Orange and white, etc.

I just want (a) a black border around the white box ■ within a very small distance (b) same shape and size as ■ (c) simple usage. Currently, it just takes 2 parameters. As the template is there to set the color of the font (text), we should probably just change the background to black for a white font. If you use it just for a "■" as text, it seems hard to get a pretty result.  Docu  at 23:46, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Question on possible deletion of same category name

Hey. Have a question on whether the subcategory of Category:Type 64 rifle, which is Type 64 rifle, should be erased. They are the same thing since both pages have the same thing. I've temporarily redirected it in the meantime. Ominae (talk) 09:23, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

In this case redirection is ok. In the gallery, there were just 3 random images from the 5 in the category. The redirect makes it easier for users to see the other 2 images that are just as important to the topic.

No, that means the gallery is a selection - thats ok - or not updated. That requires to add the new files to the gallery and update it but not to redirect it just because its outdated. --Martin H. (talk) 11:20, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Most galleries start small. If we delete all small galleries, we will never have new decent ones. There was some consensus that only galleries with one or two images could be deleted/redirected. --Foroa (talk) 12:21, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Changing photo's name

The link above does not show any mention of KOPASKA. In addition, DZRH is a Manila-based FM radio station in the Philippines. So I'm wondering if it can be changed to something like US Navy in DZRH.jpg? Thanks. Ominae (talk)

Missing file, description page without image

free logo, which licence?

I want to upload the free(?) logo for thew English wikipedia article en:Lynx (web browser). I found one at this link as the author of this page said:

Sorry, but "Feel free to use this logo" isn't free enough for our purposes. It has to be unambiguously released for free use, including commercial use and derivative works. That isn't the case here. Powers (talk) 02:05, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

Syntax

In my page User:Mattes (below "Welcome to my user page at Wikimedia Commons"), the File:Echo.svg is not being displayed under Firefox (and maybe also on other browsers).

I'm not sure what is the problem, but it is ok when I increase or decrease the size for one pixel, try 29px or 31px. perhaps someone else could explain why this happen.   ■ MMXX  talk  19:44, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

Another person, not a Wikipedia or Commons user, wants to give photos of his own. Can I upload them?

I've contacted a guy who took some valuable photos of world famed golf players and instructors and at my request is ready to give them to public domain (his words) for Wikimedia Commons and / or Wikipedia to upload them. Problem #1 is I don't find the proper option in the upload form, it's not my creation, but another guy's creation. Problem #2 is that he's absolutely not willing to become a Wikimedia or even Wikipedia user, you know, he's the old fashioned-not techie type of guy, so he's not uploading the images himself.--Nuares (talk) 13:52, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

If the person is literally unwilling to touch a computer, you will need to have him write and sign a handwritten letter licensing the images appropriately. Then scan this letter and submit it by e-mail to OTRS. Dcoetzee (talk) 21:28, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
Once the person has written the letter and it's sent to OTRS, upload the images with a {{PD-author}} template (making sure to add the photographer's name after a pipe character) and add an {{OTRS pending}} tag. Help with deletion

Help, please. The image I just uploaded does not meet the standards for 'Fair Use' and needs to be deleted. I've been searching/reading for over an hour, and cannot figure out who, what, when, or how to do it. The image is Tim_DeKay.jpg. Thank you.Watsammatta u (talk) 23:28, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

File:Tim DeKay.jpg has been deleted. In the future, you could simply add a {{copyvio}} or {{speedydelete}} tag on the image page. You won't be able to delete the image yourself, so placing that tag on the image page alerts an administrator that it needs to be deleted. Wknight94 talk 01:47, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Confused about the process for uploading an image from Flickr

Hello. I would like to upload an image from Flickr to Commons and use it for some relevant articles on the English Wikipedia, but I'm a little confused about the process. I read http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Commons:Flickr_files and the image I want to upload (http://www.flickr.com/photos/oregondot/3085516372/) appears to be under the http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/deed.en license. Am I supposed to upload the image and then tag it with (flickrreview) or do I need to have it reviewed before I can upload it? How do I tag it? TimeClock871 (talk) 08:09, 11 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello easiest way is to use some script to upload it I use this http://toolserver.org/~bryan/flickr/upload it tags it automatically , you just add categories, description if missing. I'm having trouble using the script. When I put the link for the original, larger image (http://www.flickr.com/photos/oregondot/3085516372/sizes/o/), it auto converts it to http://flickr.com/photo/28364885@N02/3085516372 (which links to an error) and nothing shows up during the preview section. I'm getting an error message saying: "Checking license ... Unsuitable license : <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?> <rsp stat="fail"> <err code="1" msg="Photo "o" not found (invalid ID)" /> </rsp>" This license is the same as another image (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Fowler_and_Governor_installing_solar_panel.jpg) from the same author here at Commons too. Just link to the biggest image, it will upload it, it will show somehow the smaller image but loads the biggest,after you hit next you need to save the image and after that click the spot where it says click this, after that it will upload it, it can take some time, usually its quite fast. Can images from a JAXA spacecraft be used on Wikipedia?

I would like to add this photo to the Wikipedia article about the IKAROS spacecraft. The image comes from this site, which is run by JAXA, the Japanese space agency. Do we have the right to use this photo on Wikipedia, and if so, how can I upload it so it can be used there? Gary2863 (talk) 00:49, 12 July 2010 (UTC)

I would say: Not possible. See http://www.jaxa.jp/policy_e.html (is linked in the footer). "Conditions of use" prohibit modification. "nd" (No Derivatives) licenses are not acceptable on commons as far as I know. --Saibo (Δ) 02:10, 12 July 2010 (UTC)
Not only non-derivative, the use is allowed for edcational purposes, use of the Materials for business or commercial purposes without the prior permission of the copyright holder (JAXA) is strictly prohibited. I just have spent almost an hour trying to upload this: File:2006-02-23 074112 Kashan.jpg from wikipedia. I suppose I am doing something wrong but have no idea what it is.

Error

I added this photo in error from my powerpoint talk on Berlin (a mix of my own photos and I think in this case flickr). File:TheatreWestensKantstrasse.jpg I also think I overwrote a file the same name. Sorry about that, especially to the two authors Can this be rectified please? Modified images

Hi, File:Arbil, Iraq.jpg is apparently a not really well-done composite image (it doesn't even reflect the actual geography of the city), and the same goes for File:Iraqi Kurdish village orchard.jpg (the original sky was replaced; see the clear break along the mountains) and probably this one (File:Iraqi Kurdish villagers.jpg). Smts fishy is going on with File:Iraqi Kurdish village orchard.jpg: It claims to be from James (Jim) Gordon, a now deleted flickr account; while a previously uploaded dupe (File:Hills south west of Sanandaj near the village of Kilaneh.jpg) claims to be from Kuresh Anbari, while it was uploaded by w:Marmoulak. w:Marmoulak claims to have sent OTRS, but either it never arrived or the volunteer forgot to stick the template on it.--DieBuche (talk) 09:30, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

File:Hills south west of Sanandaj near the village of Kilaneh.jpg has OTRS, will be added to the image. It was widely discussed on en.wp the sky hasn't been replaced but just horridly masked (for whatever reasons). How do I remove an image that I contributed?

It always helps in these discussions to be clear about what image you uploaded. File:Atypon logo.jpg is a simple logo; as such, I've tagged it under {{PD-textlogo}} and trademarked. Does that satisfy your concerns? If not, it would be helpful for you to amplify; in any case, you may always use "Nominate for deletion" on the side of the image, which is the standard way to ask the community to delete an image. You could also use {{Sdelete}}; while that's normally what I would suggest in a situation where you very recently uploaded a file you don't want on Commons, this is a preexisting file found on the net, available to us freely, making it less likely an admin will delete it without discussion. If you wish to mark w:Atypon with {{speedy|G7, request of author}}, and it gets deleted, that would increase the likelyhood of this image getting deleted, as then it would no longer have a prima facia case of being in scope.--Prosfilaes (talk) 19:16, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Need help adding a license

I'm looking to add a GFDL self license to this file:(File:Reflect_MorganWikimania2010.pdf), which is a presentation that I created completely by myself. I thought I licensed this when I uploaded it, but apparently it didn't stick :) Now I can't figure out where the license tag goes on the file page. Can someone help me out? It is more convenient for others to reuse your work if you dual-license, for example with {{GFDL}} and {{Cc-by-sa-3.0}}. See COM:L#Multi-licensing. Question: Crediting commons image in print publication

Hello - How do I credit Wikipedia in a caption for Hiroshige's "The Great Wave at Kanagawa," which appears at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hokusai ? The image will appear in a book on the work of Richard Bennett, who was influenced by this image. 198.145.96.33 12:57, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Why would credit Wikipedia? It has nothing to do with the file. File:Great Wave off Kanagawa2.jpg tells you that it's in the public domain, so there's no legal obligation to credit anyone; that the original file is from the Library of Congress, and a quick search starting from their page on the file shows no request for or suggested form of credit; and our file was restored by User:Durova, who does not request credit on the file page, but is contactable through the talk page or by email should you want to ask them if they want to be credited in some form.--Prosfilaes (talk) 13:18, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
I disagree: Commons has hosted the image, provided details as to copyright status, and indexed it so it can be located. An editor of a commercial publication will want to credit Commons for all this effort, and the guys named above, and the copyright holder. Even if it's not a credit line defined by license terms, it's good practice to indicate the source of the image. If you click on "Download as PDF" on w:Hokusai, something like the following appears in the "Image Sources, Licenses and Contributors" section of the PDF:

Newbie can't find his uploads

Hi, I'm a newbie and I've just started to import images from the Geograph project using the Geograph 2 Commons tool. It looks like I've saved the files successfully, but when I use the search tool they don't appear! What's happening? Is there a time lag between uploading the files and them becoming 'discoverable' by the search engine. The next morning around 6 (UTC), they are generally visible through Special:Search.
To be of any use, the images should be categorized into one or several topical categories too (see Commons:Categories). Those I checked on Special:WhatLinksHere/User:Westwalespics were all uncategorized. For Geograph images, try to add each image at least to a location specific categories. More categories depending on what is visible in a specific picture would be great.
If there is an article in one or the other Wikipedia that isn't illustrated and the image would make a good choice based on the other available ones, you might want to add it there too.  Docu  at 05:06, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
There is a Category:Images from the Geograph British Isles project with 273,033 members. The Geograph.org2Commons tool automatically categorizes (via the {{Geograph}} template) the images it uploads into that category, but as a hidden category. To categorize them manually into other descriptive (and non-hidden) categories, you may like to use: Help:Gadget-HotCat. For example, File:Margam Castle - geograph.org.uk - 378297.jpg can go into Category:Margam Castle. Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

/gallery issue

For some years my /gallery has been blank. This has not worried me: I don't do vanity, but it is now confusing Commonist uploads so if I can fix it perhaps I should. User:ClemRutter/gallery is the file- can anyone say how I can clear the glitch- or what caused it? --ClemRutter (talk) 11:40, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

I think the page contains too many "gallery" tags and the server can not process it anymore. You can see the data here, so you could split it up into smaller pages. A simpler solution is to change the title so Commonist can use the new (now blank) page. ;-) - Erik Baas (talk) 13:34, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Uploaded file cannot be seen at English Wikipedia

I wanted to upload a file in English Wikipedia and was invited to upload it at the Wikipedia Commons instead. So I went through the process of registering at the Commons and uploading the file. It is now 20 hours later and my Userid is still unrecognized (red) and the file that I uploaded is unrecognized (unlinked red) in the English Wikipedia article. This is frustrating. If I had uploaded it at the English Wikipedia site, the file would have been instantly linkable. Please explain to me how I can get English Wikipedia to "see" my uploaded file! Your user id is not unrecognized. It is red, because you have not put any text on your user page. Also you didn't really need to register a new account here. As your user account at en.WP was created before the activation of SUL, simply go to the preferences there and activate SUL and from then on you can change to any Wikimedia project without registering or loging in. If en-account and Commons-account have the same password it should also be no problem to unify them. Then you also don't need to log-in when coming here.
Your file is at File:Battle of Sacile 1809 Map.JPG and I can see it in the english article ('Battle of Sacile' in the lower third on the left side). If you don't see it you maybe have an old (cached) version in your browser. Refresh (purge) it and then you should be able to see it too. svg rendering issue

Compare 500px version with 1000px version (looking at Caen, top left). I've done the usual (objects & strokes converted to paths) - does anyone know why the city shows up at the higher resolutions but not the lower? Thanks, EyeSerene (talk) 17:51, 16 July 2010 (UTC)

Try CatScan2. The result includes all file description pages edited after June 30, but it is sorted by upload date and on the far right there is a column with the upload date ("Uploaded"). File Upload Confirmation / Denial?

I uploaded several flickr images through using the Flinfo tool. Added categories, and chose the Licensing option through the drop down menu. Clicked the Upload fle button and just kept getting the same Upload file page with the "If you do not provide suitable license and source information, your upload will be deleted without further notice. Thank you for your understanding." message. I selected the license and the source info is there. How do I know if the image is being accepted or denied? There is no confirmation.

Is there a way that I may upload multiple pictures at once to wikimedia commons?

Bot to fix File names on multiple WPs?

Deleted Content

I'm rather disappointed / concerned about the liberties which are taken by Wikipedia without due regard to the actual content that is being posted. "Educational purposes" is one of the guidelines... I can't think of anything more educational than the suggested FUTURE of a historic building ~ that already HAS been recognized/nominated for the National Historic Registry (just as I posted on the discussion site). And, THEN I am told: "If you do not provide suitable license and source information, your upload will be deleted without further notice. Thank you for your understanding." No, I do NOT understand!! I am the author or source for the information. I do not REQUIRE any "license" for my information. We are not Wikipedia. The information we store is tied up into pictures, video and sound, all of which are subject to copyright. If you posted a picture of a suggested future of a building, we'd need rights from the artist who made that picture. If you took a photograph of something not copyrightable, then we'd need an explicit license from you to use it. Reinhold Lepsius

I am new to Wikimedia Commons and would like to upload a photograph (which I took) of a painting by Reinhold Lepsius (who died in Germany in 1922) of Fritz Springer, one of the founders of the company I work for. I have permission to upload and comment on the photo of the picture, and copyright has expired (70 years), yet the Wikimedia rules say I can't upload a photo of a work of art. Is this true even after 70 years? If not, what should I do?

The painter died >70 years ago, so copyright on his works expired according to German copyright law. You can take photos of paintings by this painter and upload them here. I have photographs and a map that was created by someone. All have never been in publications and have no license attached to them and no copyrights. They were given to me by the author with the full intent of posting them on wikipedia for an article. How do I download them onto Commons because they keep asking me for a license but there is none. I don't know what to do.

How do I update an image?

Hello. There are many images here on Commons that are used on the English Wikipedia to summarize country's laws on specific issues like capital punishment, euthanasia, same-sex marriage, etc. Many of these are updated numerous times to reflect new legal changes. There is a particular one for cannabis (http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:World-cannabis-laws.png) that I would like to change to reflect that Massachusetts has decriminalized it in 2008 per http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massachusetts_Sensible_Marijuana_Policy_Initiative. File data base crash

I have been trying to view the image files I have uploaded to Wiki' Commons, but when I click on 'files uploaded' I get this error:

Images from copyright-expired works (eg on Project Gutenberg)

I wanted to upload some screenshots of cover/inside art from an author (Mrs George de Horne Vaizey) whose books are now copyright-expired and available for free on Project Gutenberg and elsewhere. Could someone please advise me as to what these should be classified under (and if they can be uploaded?)

It's not that simple; Gutenberg works under simple US law, whereas Commons needs them to be free in the country of first publication. So under UK law, we need to know when the illustrator died, to make sure they died more than 70 years ago. Image needs renaming

Hello, On July 9, I added a tag requesting that an image file be renamed, but no action has been taken yet. I added the tag to the file: http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Léon_Bollée_&_Wilbur_Wright_1908.jpg. It should be renamed: Wilbur Wright and Hart Berg.jpg. Leon Bollee is NOT in the photo, as uploaded to Commons. Bollee is shown in the original uncropped source photo at the French online photo site. Somalia

The image File:Saaylac.jpg is described as being of the "Zeila coastline ... in the Awdal region of Somalia". Someone has added "THIS IS NOT SOMALILAND, BUT THE "SUGARLOAF" IN RIO DE JANEIRO" and I can't help but agree - compare it with the images in Category:Pão de Açúcar (Rio de Janeiro). The coastline of Northern Somalia is mostly flat desert landscape with a few cliffs. This image is of a mountains covered in lush tropical vegetation. 84.93.181.172 19:59, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Yes, please see Commons:Reusing content outside Wikimedia. In short, all of our images are available for use for any purpose, as long as you a) provide attribution for the author and b) agree to release any modifications you make under the same terms. Image deletion

Hello - I created an image Trophic.jpg that was deleted some time back. I created the image using Artweaver and indicated clearly that I was the creator of the image. I want to have it freely available and uploaded. Each time I try to upload it I cannot - I keep getting a warning that a previous version had already been deleted, please modify the description and that I should check the log. I've spent an entire morning trying to figure this out and still do not know why it was deleted in the first place. No matter how I fill in the form - the image will not load. In the description I indicated that the other sources all came from free license that could be modified freely. I didn't just re-upload it - I have tried to find out the means to fix the problem. Free licenses require at least attribution of the author, if the original author is not attributed the reuse is a violation of the license terms and license contract will terminate automatically. The image description of File:Trophic.jpg contained only the source information Own work and your name as the author, it did not contain sources, no authors, it does not indicate the copyright status of the used images. See montage or see e.g. File:Cuscoinfobox.png, a montage that I added the source information according to my personal taste, you may find a different layout or way to link, attribute and indicate the license and to add all the required information to your montage. --Martin H. Problem

Hi! I think we have a problem with this picture. Two users are working on similar images, and both were listed as authors. They made this picture together, but after their conflict, each has made his version of the image specifying only itself as the author. Then they start the debate to protect their copyrights. I tried to talk to them, but without success. I have therefore concluded that in the interests of Wikipedia, it is best to remove controversial images because it is not clear who is the real author of these images. This image has remained. I am transferred some pictures from Wikipedia to Commons before the conflict, and I can't delete images on this project, so I need your help and your opinion. Thanks mickiτ 10:12, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

I am wanting to use a photo of the exterior of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Dallas and found one on your site. This would be for the North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church newspaper, but I did not want to use anything that might get us into copyright trouble. Having an account on Wikipedia does not necessarily mean you have an account on Commons. The simplest solution to this is to log into Wikipedia (not here, which is Commons), go into preferences and activate SUL/global account. That should reserve your username across all Wikimedia wikis, including this one, provided that no one else took your Wikipedia username here. No, without permission you can not upload it. Here on Commons the copyright holder must agree to a free license. A free license means not only that someone is acknowledged, a free license is a written permission to anyone, not only you or only Wikipedia but anyone, to reuse the work anytime for any purpose including commercial reuse and modification. The copyright holder must agree to this. If there is no possibility to contact the copyright holder (maybe the guestbook?) you will regretably never have the chance to use the image here. --Martin H.
