New version of image already here

I have created a modified version of http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:LocationBelize.svg for use at the page "Guatemalan claim to Belizean territory" on Wikipedia. At the upload page for new files, I see no specific option for these (maybe it is a trifling difference from the third option). Which of the following should I select? 

   "* It is entirely my own work
   * It is from Flickr (see our guide)
   * It is from another Wikimedia project
     (Wikipedia, Wikibooks, Wikinews, etc)
   * It is from a US federal government source
   * It is a free software screenshot
   * It is from somewhere else
   * I don't know who the author is, or I don't know what license applies
   * I need help figuring out what the license is"

Do I create a new page for a cropped photo?

I would like to crop a public domain photo appearing in the Commons before using it in a Wikipedia article. Should I create a new Commons page with the cropped version (and a pointer to the original) and point the Wikipedia article to the new version, or is there a better way to do this?

Please do not upload non-free copyrighted logotypes to Commons. If you cannot find an applicable, acceptable license at Commons:Copyright tags, it's probably because the image should not be uploaded here. If you continue to upload copyright violations, you may well be blocked, so in the future, please ask before uploading if you are unsure. —LX (talk, contribs) 17:53, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Markings in photos?

I've uploaded "free use" photos for use in the Shinto Muso Ryu article. (the original website the photos came from has released the photos for public use). The photos each have a certain marking that denounce where the photo came from. As shown in this photo. Are these markings violating any sort of rule for photos on wikipedia? The watermark isn't beautiful, but it's no big problem. The licensing is more of an issue. You aren't the copyright holder of the photo, you cannot release it under GFDL. The site explicitly states "All further use of the content on this site must be for non-profit purposes." This is not accepted on Commons. If the photo is old enough to be public domain, it is yet a different story. In that case, the site cannot claim copyright on the photo either. Do you have any information who made the photo and when? --rimshottalk 16:57, 5 May 2008 (UTC)
I see. Well all the photos I've uploaded are the possesion of the organisation that this website represents. In this case its an organisation dedicated to a Japanese martial art named Shinto Muso Ryu Jodo. I've personally both emailed and talked to in person with the webmaster in charge of both the site and the photos and gotten his clearance to use the pics on Wikipedia. With the exception of the above posted black & white photo, all photos were snapped by and for the website by the above organisation. The Black & white photo is of the organisations current leader and was taken in the 1940's or 50's.
I suppose it would have been better if the website had had a small disclaimer: "these photos are allowed to be on Wikipedia". Fred26 18:56, 5 May 2008 (UTC)

Geographical location / coordinates?

How do you add a geographical location, especially coordinates (longitude, latitude) to an media on commons? I searched FAQ, HELP and Templates without success. Could someone add an answer there as well? Vigilius 17:39, 6 May 2008 (UTC)

Figure out what the coordinates are (using a GPS device or an online map service for example), and then add {{Location}} or one of the other geocoding templates to the image description page. Does that answer your question? thanks, that seems to be it. I looked at the FAQ, at Template:Information (I just updated the doc page and the first steps with a pointer to geocoding templates). However, two more places might useful, please help in adding the information there if possible: I searched Commons:Tag_categories and the only likely subcategory Category:Infobox_templates for occurrences of geo, coord, and location and found nothing. I did just add the infobox category to the location template you describe, but please check whether this is appropriate, and which other categories might be fitting in addition. Image Files

SVG stands for Scalable Vector Graphics. You should be able to simply open them in your browser. If you want to edit them, you'll need a program like Inkscape (free) or Adobe Illustrator. If you would prefer a PNG instead all you need to do is save the thumbnail instead of the actual file and since SVGs are scalable you can make them any size you want. I quick little trick is to put [[Image:File_name.svg|the size you want]] anywhere on this site when you're editing a page. Hit preview and then right click on the image and save it. Copyrights question

I recently added an image at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Financial_District,_San_Francisco,_California showing the boundaries of Financial District. This image was a snapshot of Google Maps.

But this image was deleted by the editor EugeneZelenko marking it as copyrights violation. I am not able contact him. Wiki is throwing some error.

To have valid Copy rights what should I have to do? Since I am not so good in drawing I don't think I can draw a map on my own.

The content at Google Maps is copyrighted and under a non-free license. Commons can only accept content in the public domain and content under a free license. Please do not recreate deleted copyright violations. If you do, or if you continue to upload copyright violations, you may be blocked, so please make sure you read and understand Commons:Licensing before proceeding.
If you cannot draw a map yourself and license it freely, you would have to find a source that provides maps under an acceptable license, such as http://www.openstreetmap.org/. —LX (talk, contribs) 14:05, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

I do not understand why some of my downloaded pictures and files were deleted or are might be deleted. Could you give me more explanation concerning this matter please? Fractal Broccoli copyright ?

Image:WoodStork_Alligator.jpg

How can I go about getting Image:WoodStork_Alligator.jpg deleted? I uploaded the wrong photo at first, and then submitted the right photo, but the bird is not a woodstork so I need that image deleted so I can upload it under the correct name. Thank you! JDiPierro 21:06, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

images of art

I want to upload an image from the National Gallery of Art, the image is of a 1707 painting, clearly the copyright has expired, but is uploading that image a copyright violation, or is any image that ilustrates a material with expired copyrights ok to use?

Animated Map

Well, you need a map, some photo editing software and software to create animated GIFs. The latter is annoyingly hard to find. -mattbuck (Talk) 23:17, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Paint Shop Pro has an extra program called Animation Shop which is able to create animated gifs. Come to think of it, perhaps that program is no longer offered as part of Paint Shop Pro; though it is in the version 5 of PSP that I use. Updated Image

Another user copied an image I created on en:Wikipedia to Commons. Unfortunately, he did this just days before I modified the image, so I suggested that he re-upload it to Commons. Unfortunately, he has re-uploaded it under a different name, leaving commons with two very similar images. I'm not a Commons user, so how do I delete the original image (Image:BurjDubaiHeight.png) and rename the new image (Image:BurjDubaiHeight (1).png) to BurjDubaiHeight.png? en:User:Astronaut 87.115.5.216 09:26, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Is there really any need to delete the old one? You could set up a deletion discussion, but frankly that seems fairly pointless. There's no real problem with having the two images. -mattbuck (Talk) 12:10, 9 May 2008 (UTC)

Modified image

I have created a modified version of this image, placing the two pictures side-by-side, because in some -pedia articles the current portrait format disrupts the page formatting if the article section is quite short. Can I upload this new version (preferably with the same license and credit to "Noever, R., J. Cronise, and R. A. Confused

I am new to the site. I registered four days ago but have had to re-register numerous times to be able to loggin, even though I know I entered my ID and password correctly. I managed to upload an image to Wikipedia Commons, but haven't been able to figure out how to load it on to the desired image box on the desired page. In fact, I can't get to the desired page at all, even using the Search feature. Is there a way to get from Wikipedia Commons to a Wikipedia person page in order to edit it?

Discussion for Images of Inventions

This might be adequate for some images: If one uploads an image that has an exploded view of a device, and the components are numbered in the image, is it OK to use the discussion to relate the component numbers with component names? Doug youvan 23:45, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
No, no one would ever see it. Each image should have a description (see the upload form)- it is in the description you put details like that. A reader who clicks on the image sees the image and the description. The component names should be written in your local language and in English. Details of patents should also go here. Where possible you add a geotag or a [[Category:Location not applicable]] tag as well. The discussion page is used to suggest improvements, debate copyright of the image and the meaning of life! Does this animated gif play?

Does [1] play in your browser? It should be a repeated loop with about one frame per second. I'm especially interested in problems that might be observed on minority operating systems and browsers (not MS, not IE) before I upload more of these and create a big mess. Thanks. Can't upload an image

I'm a registered member, and even received an email for confirmation. In fact I'm updating a page of my own musical band, but when I want to upload a photo, I'm asked to log-in again and again, saying that my account doesn't exist...

Why could be this problem?? Maybe because I'm just in the spanish version and have to create an account also in the english one??

Yes. You need to have an account on each wiki you want to login for now. However note that you can most pages without logging in (exposing your IP address though). I recieved this message. What is the problem. The information (description and licensing) is completely correct! There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Need a revert on an image

This was brought to my attention on en:Image talk:Soldier running in water.jpg, but Image:Soldier running in water.jpg is currently a photoshopped version of the original, and numerous proportions have been altered. As the file history says, the new, photoshopped version was uploaded a couple of months ago by User:Adam.J.W.C. without reasoning. Would someone (any user) be able to revert to the first, un-modified (other than being cropped) version of the file, please? I would do it, but I don't think anons can. I have an account on enwiki, but obviously this is a commons image. Lastly, apologies if this is the wrong place for this message. Actually, a quick read of the page history shows that Adam J.W.C. mentions that "the muscles have been enhanced using photoshop". I don't feel that this is a necessary or appropriate change, however, and his version of the image is a lower resolution. Can anyone else see if they agree with me, and revert to the old version of the image? (old version is here, new version here. File Move

Hello, Can someone please move the file that I just uploaded (Image:UEFA 5 and 4 Star Stadia a.png) to replace Image:UEFA 5 and 4 Star Stadia.png; this is per the instructions given when I uploaded the image. The new version is updated to deal with some of the issues raised at the Wikipedia article on UEFA stadia. I could not directly replace image as my account on Wikimedia is new. Questionable Pic Copyright

This pic is a screen capture, not a photo taken by a person. I have no "proof", but judging by how the pic was taken, how screen captures look and the angle of the picture - this pic was not taken by the uploader. What recourse do I have? Site using Wikipedia pictures without permission?

I know Wikipedia Commons is media for free use, but I just noticed a site that's taken pictures enmasse without crediting Wikipedia or the original takers of the photograph.

It was originally uploaded to WP on 11 September 2005, before popularpets.net's copyright date of 2006, by w:User:RegisCartoons, who hasn't been back since May 2007 (and barely did anything in the meantime, so he's probably unreachable). In all likelihood, it's his own image since he uploaded another image of the same dog about a year later, and the dog was about a year older. So yeah, probably popularpets.net figures anything from Commons is free to use and to slap their own copyright notice on, even though it's GFDL. —Angr 19:28, 13 May 2008 (UTC)

Use of logos etc for defunct manufacturers?

I am working through all the classic British Bikes as part of the Wikipedia Motorcycling Project and need to better understand the position regarding logos and sales brochures etc of long since vanished British motorcycle manufacturers. I've got loads of images but there is nobody still (alive?) around to ask permission to use then here. I find it hard to envisage any of the original authors objecting as this is (to a few of us) an important part of our heritage that could soon be lost and is best preserved here. As long as I credit the originator as clearly as I can, is it OK to use a term such as 'defunct manufacturer'? (See Image:Spitfire badge.gif for example) TR001 07:40, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

How do I get an image I uploaded removed from wikicommons?

Yes, it's possible. An admin can do this for you. Is there a specific reason? Sometimes a deletion request is necessary so the community can decide, especially if the image is currently being used. Rocket000 09:33, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Computer code on discussion page?

On images that I have generated, should I also be dropping my source code into the discussion page of those images? The intent is to describe the image in a manner that will survive a web site such as 2 - which might not be around forever. (The code is owned by me, so there is no IP / copyright issue.) (Yeah, I prefer pics vastly over that other stuff.) So, here is an example - from another contributor - that we can use for this "code discussion". One person might see beauty and another person might see a principle in fluid dynamics. They are both happy with the image as is. A third person, possibly in the field of fluid dynamics, might want to know what is underneath the image in terms of computer code, and ask: Was this years of proprietary work or is there a public-domain, canned program somewhere that could be used to make a similar animated gif in five minutes flat? Let's say the latter is true, but only referenced to a website. Hypothetically, that website disappears ten years from now. From that perspective, it would seem that at least a terse summary of the algorithms should have been deposited - contributor’s option - on the image discussion page. So, placing computer code on a discussion page for a computer-generated image falls between two very different extremes: On the one hand, it is clutter. On the other hand, it enables future work. Missing Commons image, now in .en

I uploaded in the Commons namespace; now it is no longer in Commons, but I see it over in the .en namespace as [2] with links including a project. By the way, images that were published somewhere else before [3] and don't have the same licence there, need a COM:OTRS-ticket, just to proove that you are you and not an impersonator of you. urgent request to move file

Hello, I found that Image:May12_2008_Sichuan,_China_earthquake_shake_map.jpg is too old to be used worldwide. The length of the fault is too short. Now, the fault is believed to have more than the double length. Current file on Commons is ver. 3. USGS is now distributing ver. 7. I think it's better to replace the ver. 3 with ver. 7, because this file is used in many pages in wikimedia and all of ver. 3 needs to be replaced.

I tried "upload a new version" by myself to find that I am too new to do. So, as Upload warning said, I uploaded the file as Image:May12 2008 Sichuan, China earthquake shake map ver7.jpg instead. I don't understand HOW TO apply a symbol to the images uploaded. Does that not automatically be applied when uploading after answering the quesitons in regard to the image? Free .avi to .ogg server?

I doubt there are any websites that will convert avi to ogg for you. You may be able to find some like ffmpeg2theora that will do it on your local machine. Per your second question. It would be great to remain open source. I did try ffmpeg2theora, saw a DOS screen on MS Vista for a split second, and then I could not find any trace of what it had done. I repeated this action, carefully. Same problem. With dll updates coming in frequently under MS control, it is amazing that anyone can stay ahead of them. I'll look at my SAGE installation and see if there is an analogous trick. Where do I post for this community if we figure out a better method to get to ogg? I do believe the ffmpeg2theora is a command line application. So you should launch a copy of the command prompt, and execute the exe for ffmpeg2theora in there. You can also pop onto IRC and see if anyone knows. I believe there are less than 600 videos on commons - so there aren't alot of people uploading. Kudos to you for trying though. As for MP3, it is unfortunately not PD'd you can read about it on en.wp, here. Personally I believe the use of theora is a good thing - but it would be nice to be able to upload almost any format and have it trans coded. I'd say just relicence it as CC-BY-SA-3.0 - the cc original licence just means you can modify it as long as you credit the original author and distribute it under a licence which is compatible with the original. COM:OTRS (sorry, longtimers have a way of speaking in abbreviations noone else understands :-). It's our permission e-mail archive; a small group of volunteers processes these. The e-mail address to forward the permission to, once you got it, is permissions-commons@wikimedia.org. Mention in the e-mail precisely which images are concerned, and include both sides of the e-mail exchange (your asking, and their replies). Each incoming permission gets a "ticket number"; if the permission is deemed sufficient, that ticket number will be mentioned on the image description pages so that it is clear which permission relates to these images, so that it can be re-checked in the future if any doubts should ever arise. Like all copyrightable works, regardless of the publication media used, the copyright holder chooses the license. Because different copyright holders choose different licensing terms, there is of course no license that covers all such images. The licensing terms selected by Google Maps are in their terms of use. If you read Commons:Licensing and Google Maps' terms of use, you will see that images from Google Maps have not been published under a free license by their copyright holder and that they must therefore not be uploaded here.
Maps from Open Streetmap are published under the {{Cc-by-sa}} license, which is compatible with Commons:Licensing. NASA World Wind is a free mapping software (the stable version unfortunately only works under Microsoft Windows) which comes with several public domain datasets, including satellite imagery. Old family photos licensing

I uploaded a photo of my late grandfather Jan Karczewski. I am the owner of the hardcopy of that picture taken in 1945, long before my birth and shortly before his death. I have no idea how to fulfill your licensing requirements - I don't know who was the author, and he is most likely dead anyway. I would like to include the picture in the devoted to him entry of Polish Wikipedia. Please help.

missing from Special:UncategorizedImages?

I have come across an uncategorized image Image:Sopotwaly.JPG and just before adding the category (please don't categorize yet as discussion could become pointless!). I have checked where I expected it to be found Special:UncategorizedImages (&limit=50&offset=450), and could not track it. Is it a mechanism I don't understand or a bug? I've notcied the "links" section in images that are in Wikimedia Commons doesn't contain where the image is used in Wikipedia.

For instance: "Beagle 745.jpg" appears in the Wikipedia article "Beagle" and in Wikimedia Commons. However, if you search for this file in Wikimedia Commons and look at the links ascribed to it all links point to within Wikimedia Commons.

The links section only shows links from pages here on Commons. Use the "check usage" tab at the top of the page to get a list of where an image is used on all the Wikimedia projects. This tool is located on a separate server, so it doesn't work perfectly all the time, but it should be fairly obvious if it's broken or if its database is outdated. —LX (talk, contribs) 17:44, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Godfrey Hounsfield image from National Library of Medicine (NLM)

Hi. Is this image [5] OK to add? It's from the Visible Proofs gallery on the United States National Library of Medicine (NLM) website (image web page URL [6], image URL [7], copyright information [8]). The caption on the image says National Library of Medicine rather than a third party so I'm assuming it's theirs (and thus public domain) but I'm not 100% sure. Thanks. Well first off the proper template to use for NIH images is: {{PD-USGov-NIH}} . As for the specific image, it looks like it is safe to me. The image caption on the image said it was NLM. Canal Icon Images uploaded from en:Wikipedia

The UK Waterways project have uploaded most of the remaining icons for canal mapping from en:Wilipedia to Commons. However, two failed. (Image:BSicon_uxKRZun.svg and Image:BSicon_ugKRZun.svg). Commons says it does not have copies of either of these files, but when I try to upload them, either directly or using Commons helper, it says they are corrupt or have an invalid file extension. The files are direct copies of those on en:Wikipedia, and 50 others transferred correctly. Any suggestions? Bob1960evens 21:00, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

According to Firefox (v2 & v3), those two files are corrupted (on en.wp). When I try to bring up the full version ex here. I get the following error "XML Parsing Error: prefix not bound to a namespace". Well in firefox when text is rendered where the image is supposed to be - it means the image is corrupted. Is it possible the the first frame of this video was corrupted in such a way that commons couldn't generate a preview for it? --ShakataGaNai Talk 05:05, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

Adding catagories

I noticed that there is a huge list of things that are uncatergorized and I would like to help by putting as many as I can into catorgories. I think I know how to do it but I just wanted to make sure. I think that I do it by pressing edit and then at the bottom of the description it says uncatorgorized in brackets and I add the name of the catorgory for each one in there. Is this right? How long will it take to be removed from the uncatorgorized list? How many catagories should I put for each one?

The first one on the list is a former lady wrestler and glamour model so should I put it under wrestlers and glamour model? I had a quick go and tried doing that but glamour model was in red and it said that that catagory didnt exist so i deleted that catagory description so it was just under wrestler. If it says that the catagory doesnt exist should I change the catagory or not?

If you register a account you can use Hotcat, a very easy tool for you to remove, add and modify categories with. When you've put 1 category one a image, you can remove the "uncategorized" template. If their is anything then don't hesitate to ask! --Kanonkas(talk) 18:55, 25 May 2008 (UTC)
There is a Category:Models (people). Perhaps there is a suitable subcategory there. Otherwise you could always create one. Note that category names are normally plural (since we expect there to be more than one file in a category). It's usually helpful to search for categories that one has in mind before trying to add them.
Each file should be placed in as many applicable and specific categories as possible (don't put images in categories that are parent or "ancestor" categories of another category that the image is already in; for example, don't place a map of England in both Category:Maps of England and Category:England). I assume most wrestlers are not models and most models are not wrestlers, so such categories should be independent of one another, meaning it should be fine to add an image to both.

Limit?

My pictures were all deleted

Hello, just wondering what I can do about this situation. ALL of my pictures were deleted because they were all "copyrighted". The thing is, one of the photos was one that I actually took while the other is one from a HS website. It actually was a school logo and there was nothing on it to show that it was copyrighted. Now, in order to use the jpeg, would I need an email from the webmaster then? I didn't expect all of my pictures to be deleted so I want to know what I need to do to make sure this doesnt happen again. Thank you very much. Tccommons 06:15, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

You say "All" of your photos but only refer to two images in your above statement. How many were deleted? Also, it is fairly safe to assume that any logo for any organization is Copyright - even if it is your school. Even if their license allows you to use it - the license may not be "free enough" for commons. Additionally - if you uploaded several photos that were copyright and one or two that you took - more than likely those that you took didn't get noticed - and it was assumed that all of your images were copyright violations. It doesn't need to says "Copyrighted" or "©" to be copyrighted. All images are copyrighted as soon as they're made, with rare exceptions (like U.S. gov. works). That means Commons requires an explicit license. Thus, your school logo should have been deleted. As noted, you can re-upload the image you took yourself. Old photographs

Hi, I was wondering what the copyright status would be for images such as this of and , it is available on several websites I have come accross whilst looking for references and info for these two articles. Links to Wikipedia

1. How do I place a category on an image in Wikimedia Commons so that it shows in a category in Wikipedia ? I’m looking for a way other than using the generic note in Wikipedia that there are images in available in Wiki Commons.
2. How do I format the info in the summary of an image so that it links to Wikipedia content? For example, I placed the name of the building on the summary description of an image but would like to create a link to the article of that building in Wikipedia so that the reader can learn more about the building if they desire. In Wikipedia, they are called wikilinks to other articles.

Hi. In answer to your first question, I don't think there's a good way to do that, though you could add a category to the image's page on wikipedia. Manuscripts

It depends on the country whether copyright can be claimed on a photograph of an old 2D artwork. In the US, no; in the UK, yes. I'm not sure about Iran though. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag. In many countries there may be problems that the photo is not simply of a 2D artwork, as you can see the binding of the book etc. The 3D elements would be better cropped out anyway, to create images of the two pages separately. --MichaelMaggs 21:50, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Single User LogIn

I would like to enable SUL from the german Wikipedia. Now I realised, that I have made an mistake early in working here. I have created 2 seperate accounts (User:PatDi and User:PatDin). Is it possible to merge both accounts to User:PatDi? Otherwise I am going to merge only PatDi with all other Wikis, and the 3 edits with PatDin will be lost. Upload an image from US Wikipedia to French Wikipedia

Hi,

I would like to use this image on the french Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Punt_khoisan.jpg

The copyright on wikipedia says: The two-dimensional work of art depicted in this image is in the public domain in the United States and in those countries with a copyright term of life of the author plus 100 years. Under American copyright law, originality of expression is necessary for copyright protection, and a mere photograph of an out-of-copyright work may not be protected under American copyright law.

Can you tell me how I can use this image and what should I do? There are no equivalent image equivalent on Wikipedia Thank you in advance --User:Zheim

Unused account

Hi, I would like to use a unified account, and I do own the same user name in both Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons (urashimataro). The problem is that I forgot the password to the Wikimedia Commons one, and I didn't give an email address. So that user account is 100% unused, while I use another Commons account (tarourashima). I would like to solve this situation, get rid of tarourashima and just use urashimataro for all projects. Can it be done? I am sure it can. but don't know what to do. Thanks. Upload Form

Is there any chance to not use the Upload Form?

I have several templates that I always use, including copyright statements, descriptions, categories and the like. I would not like to fill in the upload form for any single image, so basically: can I use the old form somewhere?

Classic. It is also a pain because the Permission attribute for the template is not included in the dialog any longer. I upload from other wiki (without a bot) and elsewhere quite often so it is often easier to paste the license that was used or personally educational to find the license that should be used. -- carol (tomes) 08:50, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
Place the configuration code into your standard.js and shift-reload or ctrl-reload. Monobook.js is only for monobook, other skins have their own user scripts. And I just checked, the "Permission" field is present also in the Classic skin. At least it is for me. Lupo 09:08, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for [the link. I was going to ask. I like the new form in many ways, but sometimes I upload a series of photos (either several I took at the same place or event, or a series by the same Flickr user) that need only a minor change in wording in one place between images, making copy and pasting easier than rewriting different fields each time. The new form didn't allow that (eg, if the license and author was already in the description section, I couldn't upload because the seperate author and license tabs were blank). Good to know there is a way around it. Possibly there should be a tab somewhere making this method of uploading less obscure? -- Infrogmation 13:16, 29 May 2008 (UTC)

How can I delete a page I created?

I wanted to put the picture up on the Commons so that I could use it in one of my Wikipedia articles. It unfortunately did not give me the result I wanted and now, I would rather take the picture off. It seems very complicated to just delete a page I created my self.

Screen capture from a History program on television

Hello,
I would like to upload this image on Wikipedia [9].
This is a very low resolution screen capture from a television program about ethiopian history, the image was found on a blog on teh internet.
I have seen that this kingd of image has already been uploaded here, like this one :[10] for instance.
Can you tell me if it is possible for me to do the same given that:
- the name of the channel is given on the picture
- this is a very low resolution image
- no equivalent free-content is available
By the way I can't find the above mentionned licence "non free fair use" can you tell me how to do the same if needed?
For information I konw the name of the program and author ("Fascist Legacy" by Ken Kirby, BBC production) it can be precised if needed

  • Unfortunately you cannot upload that image on to commons, as commons only accepts free work (being part of a TV show & having a copyright logo make it non-free). photo help

I created a page for a friend. I uploaded an image i took on wikipedia, apparently I didn't do it correctly and there was a note posted saying that it was up for deletion. I just uploaded another photo i took of him and i think i did i properly this time. However I accidentally gave the image the same name as the first one. Now his page has no photo, and I am not sure why?? I am also wondering how i can delete the first image? You only have a single image uploaded on Commons. It is not currently tagged for deletion and you have no previously deleted contributions on Commons. See Commons:Deletion guidelines for different applicable reasons and methods for requesting deletion. Derivative work

What should I do if I want to use a cropped version from a free Flickr image? Should I upload the full version using Flickr Upload Bot, and then upload another cropped version with another filename (link to full version file), or upload cropped version overwrite full version, or just upload cropped version and give the original link to Flickr image?
