Category:Collections of Leiden University Library (uncategorized)

Category:Collections of Leiden University Library (uncategorized) is incredibly overfull (167k!) but the vast, vast majority of the media in that category are actually already categorized within the Leiden University Library category system. Could a bot crawl through Category:Southeast Asian & Caribbean Images (KITLV), Leiden University Library (a child category of 140k images) and remove any media with the 'uncategorized' category? There is a lot more sorting to be done after that but I think that's a simple enough task. --- Ricky81682 (talk) 07:29, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

Also for a file like File:KITLV A142 - Paviljoen met Europeanen te Soerakarta, KITLV 67068.tiff, is it still not uncategorized as it doesn't have any category describing the content of the image? Cryptic-waveform (talk) 15:07, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

Yes, the category refers to uncategorized within the collection categories, not generally uncategorized images. Many of the images just contain one of the collection subcategories and do need further categorization but that needs manual review. I think there are other “uncategorized” images in other categories but I suspect there could be like 100k that overlap. It’s a large overlap. - Ricky81682 (talk) 18:00, 24 January 2023 (UTC)

Corrected by Jacek Halicki

Could a bot run through files uploaded by User:Jacek Halicki and add Category:Corrected by Jacek Halicki to all files that are not in Category:Images by Jacek Halicki? I've tried to fulfil this request myself by using pywikipediabot's listpages (by using a list of files from logevenets), but don't seem able to filter out files that are now redirects. Hi. Do you want to consider only the initial upload or subsequent uploads too? For example File:Tablica wyjście powstańców do niewoli przy ul. Lwowskiej 2a w Warszawie.jpg. Category replace request

Hi, can I discuss the complete request with a bot owner who can do it: when a special categorization is specified, and the parameter value for source is just {{own}}, the category should be removed and a string should replace the own. TC Track maps 2

Could a bot please add Category:Tropical cyclone track maps with the original scale to files already located within Category:Tropical cyclone track maps with command as input code, Category:Tropical_cyclone_track_maps_with_no_input_code, and Category:Tropical cyclone track maps with track data as input code? This can easily be done with Gadget Cat-a-lot:

Search for incategory:"Tropical cyclone tracks" -incategory:"Tropical cyclone track maps with the original scale".
Expand results to 500.
Using Gadget Cat-a-lot, add the category to the first 500 results.
Wait a few seconds for the changes to be propagated to all servers.
Refresh the search page.
Repeat steps 3 to 5.

In that case, {{protectededit}} may be necessary. It seems to derive from the line

After poking at this a little more, it looks like only admins are able to ignore the blacklist. So you may want to get in touch with them: COM:AN. Mass categorization of Wiki Loves Monuments Poland photos

Hi! I'd like to have 50k files from Polish Wiki Loves Monuments added to categories for voivodeship (province) they were taken in. It will help with arranging GLAM partnerships that involve Commons uploads. These categories are hidden and are part of the contest category tree (like WLM in 2022, Featured photos from WLM etc.).

I've prepared 16 lists of files. Every list applies to one category, linked in a header on top of the page:

Photos of Czech president Petr Pavel

Photos File:Petr Pavel photo 6474.jpg and File:Petr Pavel photo 6474 cropped.jpg, which are quite widely used in various wikipedias, are going to be deleted soon, see Commons:Deletion requests/File:Petr Pavel photo 6474.jpg. Bulk-inserting a category to files

I want to insert a user category (Category:Baleswari Odia pronunciation by Subhashish Panigrahi) to keep track of progress. I could find all the files (here) using Petscan. However, I can't figure out how to use something like cat-a-lot to include the category "" to all these files. Will really appreciate any help. Psubhashish (talk) 03:05, 3 March 2023 (UTC)

Help for review needed files

Hi. My request is related to reviewers and some news agencies files. For example: We have 2418 from Tasnimnews, 27722 from Farsnews and 18887 from Mehrnews that review needed. But I'm sure We have more than files form these websites that review needed but upladers didn't follow the guides and forgot to add {{License review}} template and related category like [[Category:Mehrnews review needed]] ! For example : This file is from Tasnim and this file from farsnews without License review template and category. So please run the Bot and add this template and related category to any files from news agencies that dosen't have {{License review}} template with related category. If I understand everything correctly, license reviewers now have to remove two indications when reviewing these files: they have to remove {{LicenseReview}} plus [[Category:Farsnews review needed]]. Vysotsky is right in pointing out that the license reviewer needs to remember to also remove files from Category:Farsnews review needed (and similar categories for other agencies), and that this can occasionally be forgotten. I don't see this as much of an issue as such files can easily be found by searching for: incategory:"Farsnews review needed" -incategory:"License review needed". Alternatively one could modify Template:Fars (and Template:Mehr, Template:Tasnim, etc.) to behave like Template:BollywoodHungama so that a separate license review tag and category is not needed. Category:1870s photographs of Brazil

Could a bot help sort out the images at Category:1870s photographs of Brazil which is a child of Category:19th-century photographs of Brazil? The images though don't have the information within the file so it will need to conduct queries within Wikidata to move them into the relevant month and year subcategories. Category:Image stacks

Replace Date=1970-01-01 in Structured Data of Wikiportret uploads

In some Wikiportret uploads a date of 1970-01-01 was added. I've already fixed the file information templates for the files, but Visual File Change can't fix Structured Data. Can someone with a bot fix the structured data? It's all the files I've edited 15 March 2023 20:15 CET. Correct data wasn't provided by the person that uploaded the photo, so the date is unknown. Creation of many "[year] by topic by country" categories

Example of category name: Category:1700 by topic by country Page content of the category: {{DMC|1700|topic|country}}

These categories are redlinked to, especially so in the more modern years. Lowest I found was 1313 but it will probably suffice to go from ~1700s to modern day. Delete or change a textphrase in over 16.000 images

Hi, this is my first request. I work for the Commons:WikiProject Postcards. There we have section Search postcards by filetype with this Searchlink: TIF-images with a word "postcard" and no postcard-category. Normally there is under 1000 images to deal with. But now this search is flooded with images of the Category:Photographs by Frank Scholten. Because over 16.000 of this images has the text phrase "The dating has come into being with the use of the postcards." - Can a bot change or delete this useless text phrase? The dating was established via postcards that where send by him. This is just an explanation why the date field was entered with their values.

If you want to remove that sentence then there is the option of "visual filechange" for example. There you can change content of files by replacing strings. This can be done with about 3000 files at a time.

Replace "developwoment" with "development" in multiple categories

I've found that there are multiple category pages about men and women by stage of human development which were created with up to three instances of the word "developwoment" instead of "development", such as Category:Men brushing their teeth, Category:Adolescent boys cosplaying, and Category:Young women wearing flip-flops. This includes broken Wikipedia links. Although I've manually fixed a few of these categories, there are too many of them, so a bot would be needed to do the job. Category renames

Can someone please rename the categories Interior of the D.A. Sturdza House, Bucharest to Interior of the Dimitrie Sturdza House; D.A. Sturdza House, Bucharest to Dimitrie Sturdza House, and automatically transfer all the files from the categories to the new names? I would also want to move all the files from Category:D.A. Null edits

Due to edits to SDC-generated templates, there are a large number of pages in Category:Media contributed by the Digital Public Library of America with unknown institution and Category:Digital Public Library of America files missing required SDC statements that need to be purged. Currently, nearly all of these categories should be depopulated once purged, since the required SDC is not missing. Delete inaccurate coordinates from sets of photos from the Brno Exhibition Centre

Please remove all {{Location}} templates and Structured Data coordinates from file sets by Sevela.p.

Ca 654 files affected. The coordinates are very imprecise, scattered at a kilometer distance from the exhibition center. It can be assumed that even for those photos that have a defined position inside the exhibition center with coordinates, the coordinates are inaccurate and do not correspond to the actual location. The number of mislocated photos in a wide area around the fairgrounds makes it impossible to find correctly located photos in this area. (I pointed this out to the uploader on his talk page, he didn't comment. This year, his activity on Wikimedia projects is minimal.) ŠJů (talk) 11:42, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

@ŠJů: I've done some of this. I've used VisualFileChange to remove some of the {{Location}} templates, but VFC can't remove structured data so that's still present. For Category:Autosalon Brno 2011 it looked to me like some of the co-ordinates were clustered around three distinct buildings on the map, so I've preserved those ones and deleted the rest. Maybe someone knows some tools to apply my removals to structured data as well. --bjh21 (talk) 13:32, 23 October 2023 (UTC)

I would have assumed that Help:Gadget-ACDC is capable of this. As far as I see though, it is not, so I raised this on the discussion page. Adding colour space declaration to images

Hi. There are a few hundred uploads by User:ThailandPhoto that have the colour space undefined or incorrectly defined, resulting in weird colour rendering on many browsers. See the original version of File:Bangkok Benjakiti Park 2.jpg, for example, which shows up like this. It seems like the fix should be a fairly simple matter of editing the metadata to have the correct colour space declared, which should be possible to batch process using a command line application, but I have no idea how to actually do that. Delete unnecessary licensing information from files

Hi. Would it possible to have a bot remove some pointless licensing information from a bunch of files related to Allentown, PA? I think there's like 65,000 files that all have the same information. It's not really necessary though and just screws with searches for anything semi-related to things that are mentioned in the details. One example is the licensing information in File:1929 - Allentown - Bethlehem Gas Company - 31 Mar MC - Allentown PA.jpg and Category:Newspaper advertising in Allentown, Pennsylvania, which the file is in, would probably be a good place to start. I have no exact steps, it’s up to the bot owner how exactly to do it. It needs to contain two things for each day:

the file name from Template:Potd/YYYY-MM-DD (e.g. Template:Potd/2023-11-01: Muelle Monroe, Chicago, Illinois, Estados Unidos, 2012-10-20, DD 10.jpg; can be got by expanding the wikitext {{Potd/YYYY-MM-DD}} in the context of API),
all captions from Template:Potd/YYYY-MM-DD (xx) (e.g. Template:Potd/2023-11-01 (en): View of quiet Monroe Harbor in fall at dawn, [[:en:Chicago|Chicago]], Illinois, USA., Template:Potd/2023-11-01 (fr): Soleil couchant sur le ''Monroe Harbor'', un port de [[:fr:Chicago|Chicago]] (États-Unis).; can be got by expanding the wikitext {{Potd/YYYY-MM-DD (xx)}} in the context of API).

It should be stored on .tab pages in the Data namespace, with periodically (e.g. monthly or yearly) new pages to prevent the page to be loaded getting too large, and have licensed CC BY-SA 4.0 because of the captions originating from CC BY-SA 4.0 template pages. That’s the requirements.

An implementation idea is to use the following schema:

I’ve created a Pywikibot script at https://gitlab.wikimedia.org/tacsipacsi/pywiki/-/blob/main/potd_tabular.py. Unfortunately it turned out that localized columns cannot be longer than 400 characters per language, and some captions are longer than that (some language(s) on November 15, November 27 and November 29 in this month – the error message doesn’t include any details other than the row and column numbers, which translate to days and the fact that captions are affected), which make the saving fail. I don’t know why the limit is 400, maybe it could be increased if not entirely removed. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 21:34, 7 November 2023 (UTC)

@Klein Muçi: It depends on what you consider “making interwiki transclusion possible”. I could just not include any captions, which would technically make it work, but I don’t consider a picture of the day without caption useful. While I could also make the script only drop (or truncate) captions longer than 400 characters, I don’t want to do that because it would result in unpleasant surprises: since most captions in most languages would work, people would assume that everything’s okay, and then one day readers would be presented an English caption despite having a translated one, or a truncated caption. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 22:39, 14 November 2023 (UTC)

Remove Template:WikiProject Aviation from file talk pages

See also: Commons:Deletion requests/Template:WikiProject Aviation. The template was a somewhat foolish attempt at adding an en-wiki style WikiProject banner template to the talk page of each and every aviation-related file. Luckily, that never took off, but there are still about 200 file talk pages that have that banner. If someone could remove them so we can move on with deleting the template, that would be great. Polona Upload categories

Special:WantedCategories has a large number of red-link categories resulting from book uploads by the National Library of Poland/ User:Polona Upload.

For example:

Category:Geographia Cl. Ptolemaei (1562)

which includes, again for example:

File:Geographia Cl. Ptolemaei 1562 (101891719).jpg

It should be possible to create and populate those categories, using information from a sample file's {{Book}} template, which gives a year of publication, author, langauge, etc.

Need hard touch on files in a category

@Billinghurst: I am not sure if this is what you wanted, but I went to PAWS, logged in, clicked "new" and "terminal", then ran "pwb.py touch -family:commons -lang:commons -cat:Category_pages_with_broken_file_links" to touch the files and other pages in that category (but not subcategories). Why are backend processes failing so often and so consistently for those cats and Category:Incomplete deletion requests and children that such touching needs to be done? We have had to touch and purge forever, and these mega categories just fail sometimes.
