@Hansmuller: It seems there are many links inside comments. Do we need to modify these links? --Kanashimi (talk) 02:49, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

Dear @Kanashimi , you are great! Thanks ever so much! Sorry for the delay. I will check the files you indicated, do not yet understand "many links inside comments", have to study that. A very grateful Hansmuller (talk) 08:58, 7 December 2020 (UTC)
@Hansmuller: For example, in File:KITLV - 100583 - Stafhell & Kleingrothe - Medan-Deli - Batak village, Sumatra - circa 1890.tif, there are bad links inside comments. --Kanashimi (talk) 02:23, 8 December 2020 (UTC)
@Kanashimi: You were right of course: those bad links inside comments indeed. They just reflect the true upload history with now defunct backlinks, so they are ok. Your thorough list of files to check manually were small postcard files i uploaded privately - not for Leiden University Library - which i had forgotten about! Thanks to your list i could repair the backlinks also there! Have a nice well-deserved holiday. Thanks again, Hansmuller (talk) 11:54, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
@Hansmuller: Per mediawikiwiki:Extension:Echo#Usage, you must link to another user's page and sign in the same edit in order to effectively mention, notify, or ping them, and even then only if they have "Notify me when someone links to my user page" set (which is the default here). Pinging @Kanashimi properly.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 15:11, 22 December 2020 (UTC)
You're welcome :) --Kanashimi (talk) 22:34, 22 December 2020 (UTC)

Change misleading names of French audio files

There are over 1000 French pronunciation files uploaded with Lingua Libre as Finnish in 2019. The uploader wrote about it here, but nothing has been fixed so far. The files are collected here: Category:Lingua Libre misleading items by WikiLucas00 12.19. Please change the name of each file from this category from "File:LL-Q1412 (fin)-<SOMETHING>.wav" to "File:LL-Q150 (fra)-<SOMETHING>.wav" if the new file name is not in use. It will facilitate the use of these files by bots adding pronunciation to wiktionaries. The names on the wiktionary pages, where the files have been already added, should also be changed. Correct coordinates from images in Category:Images from Wiki Loves Earth in Brazil

Many images in Category:Images from Wiki Loves Earth in Brazil for the years 2014, 2015 till 2019 have incorrect coordinates. I corrected many. What is left is 3677 images which have longitude East instead of West. For example File:Cachoeira Formosa.jpg with {{Location|-8.044167|73.565278}} which should be changed to {{Location|-8.044167|-73.565278}}. Mind that there are several templates used for location (like template:Location dec), and sometimes use the Degrees/Minutes/Seconds notation like {{Location|8|2|39|S|73|33|55|E}} which should be changed to {{Location|8|2|39|S|73|33|55|W}}.

Selection:

See this geogroup for all (takes a few minutes to process) or for example this geogroup for 2017.

To be changed to

  • Locations between 0 South - 25 South and 30 West - 75 West

PS: Most of these incorrect coordinates are also added to the structured data. If you are able to update these accordingly that will be perfect, otherwise I can do that myself using Wikimedia Commons Query Service and QuickStatements.

Batch deletion

I accidentally introduced a bug to my code in my last bot run that resulted in several hundred file duplicates being uploaded (once with ".jpg" and once with ".jpeg"). I made a list of all the duplicates that need to be deleted here: User:Dominic/Sandbox. However, I don't have admin rights on Commons. While I could use the bot to tag them all for speedy deletion, but rather than overloading that process, I thought it might be better if there is an admin that can just delete all the linked files on the page with PWB or some other tool. Any ideas? Thanks! Dominic (talk) 16:31, 28 January 2021 (UTC)

I think you should post this on the Admin noticeboard. Most people visiting this page will not have admin rights. Alternative, you could place a speedy deletion tag on your sandbox page and explain that you want all the links deleted. --Schlurcher (talk) 13:14, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Facebook mass categorization

As files uploaded from Facebook can be reliably detected by testing the EXIF/IPTC metadata for a Facebook ID, if not identified in other ways, like including the FB ID in the filename, it seems reasonable that there should be a housekeeping bot task for monitoring new uploads and putting them in a handy category for re-reporting and testing.

Does anyone feel like setting this up? Maybe it can be integrated as part of an existing RC monitoring bot, or hosted on the WMF cloud. -- (talk) 12:42, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

Hi Fæ, could you please link an example. It might also be more appropriate to add SDC-Facebook username (P2013) instead of using a category. Thoughts? --Schlurcher (talk) 13:17, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
It's whatever best suits copyvio handlers. SDC is harder to use as it's invisible to the API, whilst a category is visible to all types of tools and systems. Other systems like tags could be used, but Facebook is just one potential source that a EXIF examining task might helpfully filter for, so a bit too specific for a project level tag IMHO.
The exemplar that started this was a discussion about File:Sami ALZARO.jpg, which was matched to a Facebook image, but also has the obvious EXIF field that FB adds.
BTW, as a bot creator I have the warewithall to try something like this, but have only briefly touched the RC stream and others have much better experience with the latest methods.

Adding descriptions

I'm just transferring a batch of free images via URL2Commons. Unfortunately I'm not able to transfer these files with their respective descriptions. I have exported them into this table – for each file, there is a description in the separate column. Could anyone add those description into the Information template (instead of "PLACEHOLDER")? Other related task would be adding a date to these files – I have stored dates of the scanned photographs in the same table, for the other files it would be necessary to extract the date from EXIF. — Draceane talkcontrib. 21:14, 25 March 2021 (UTC)

Please add these files of the Halletsville Herald newspaper to Category:Halletsville Herald I tried to do that with Commons:Cat-a-lot but I hit search result and batch editing limits, so about 6,000 files are still missing.-- Discostu (talk) 09:42, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

I get 9976 done, no remainers using insource:'Halletsville Herald. (Hallettsville, Tex.), Vol.'. -- (talk) 11:31, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
Category still says 4,045 files 🤔 -- Discostu (talk) 11:52, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
It may be (very long) lags in the public front end. The standard search trying to exclude the category does not work either, it displays plenty that have the category. -- (talk) 11:55, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
(not done) Using Pywikibot replace.py -search:" -incategory:Halletsville_Herald insource:'Halletsville Herald. (Hallettsville, Tex.), Vol.' " -regex "(.)$" "\1\n\n[[Category:Halletsville Herald]]" -summary:'Add [[Category:Halletsville Herald]]'
Remains might be down to the specific search being used. -- (talk) 21:42, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
I still find files not in the category (example) -- Discostu (talk) 21:51, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
Yes, I think this remains a laggy category/search issue even via Pywikibot. Consequently the exceptions where I see duplicate categories, as testing if the file is in the category may return false when it's true. Considering this is more than ½ a day later, it's an operational bug not "normal". -- (talk) 22:01, 16 April 2021 (UTC)

Upload images on OpenI

So basically, https://openi.nlm.nih.gov/ is a database containing millions of medical images. Would it be good if a bot could upload them? Some of them are CC-BY. It has it's own API to filter licensing. It would be great if a bot could upload it. AeschyIus (talk) 13:34, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

In my (personal, maybe unpopular) opinion the last thing Commons needs is another dump of millions of images that nobody will ever take the time to categorize. -- Discostu (talk)
This is part of another project I'm looking at longer term, probably in a few months time. -- (talk) 20:15, 12 May 2021 (UTC)

Taking over User:OgreBot tasks

Owner decided to stop maintenance of bot's operations due recent API changes. Bot produced a lot of useful reports like User:OgreBot/Notable uploads and User:OgreBot/Uploads by new users. It'll be great if somebody will adjust bot's code to new API and will it on regular basis. Code is located at https://bitbucket.org/MagogTheOgre/ogrebot/src/master/. Part of functionality was run on ToolServer. Due to general usefulness of such bot, it'll be reasonable to run it on shared account. --EugeneZelenko (talk) 14:05, 14 May 2021 (UTC)

I should be able to implement most of the cleanup tasks from User:OgreBot 2. I'll have a look at the most recent contributions. I'm not able to read php code. --Schlurcher (talk) 19:43, 15 May 2021 (UTC)
OgreBot was a wonderful bot, and this seems unfortunate. A shared account for ToolServer looks like the best solution for the functionality on there. As for User:OgreBot/Uploads by new users, perhaps this tool can partially replace that. I do agree that having the gallery show up on file description pages is helpful, though. Cyberpower678 might be able to help with adjusting it to the new API, pinging him for ideas. EpicPupper (talk) 21:38, 16 May 2021 (UTC)

Fix white balance semi-automatically

A tool where one could click on an area of an image which ought to be white, and then preview the resulting colour correction and repeat until right, would be very useful. It's a pain to download each image, fix it manually, and re-upload it. The files in Category:Wrong white balance are far from the only ones that would benefit. If it could also remove the yellowing typical of paper of a certain age, the Wikisource people would also be very grateful; see Wikisource:Help:Adding images#Automatic processing with ImageMagick for their current Unix-commandline workflow. Substitute template

Hello!

All occurances of {{Non-admin closure}} should be substituted (Special:Search/com: hastemplate:"Non-admin closure"). I can do it with VFC but I figured it be better if done by a bot instead, so not to spam RC.Jonteemil (talk) 02:15, 13 May 2021 (UTC)

Request filed. This would be with VFC as well, but with a bot flag as to not clutter RC. EpicPupper (talk) 21:52, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
Perfect. Jonteemil (talk) 04:43, 17 May 2021 (UTC)
Still doing...waiting for AWB rights. VFC doesn't seem to be working for me, so I'm planning to use AWB instead once I posses permissions. EpicPupper (talk) 19:07, 3 June 2021 (UTC)
Request withdrawn. Taking a look at the transclusions, they mostly are in users' talk page comments, and I would prefer to not touch those. In addition, this is a template that should be substituted, but does not have to (see also: {{Must be substituted}} and {{Should be substituted}}). Thanks for the idea, but I don't think it is necessary. EpicPupper (talk) 00:09, 5 June 2021 (UTC)

Spell4Wiki Mass audio uploads in Dagbani - help needed to clean up

Hello. I need some help with a number of audio files:

  • rename
  • recategorize
  • add descriptions, and
  • add captions

Some background

Dagbani Wikimedians undertook a project to record and upload Dagbani words to Wikimiedia Commons. We used the Spell4Wiki app which allows users to select their language, and then the app will proceed to add a prefix-language code to the Commons file's name. 4000+ words were uploaded into Category:Files uploaded by spell4wiki in dag.

The issues

  • Some users selected the wrong language to record their Dagbani word. Those wrong prefixed words are at Files uploaded by spell4wiki in CHECK. We would like them to be renamed with the right prefix Dag-
  • When renamed, some of those words in Category:Files uploaded by spell4wiki in CHECK will already exist in Category:Files uploaded by spell4wiki in dag. We want to keep both files (as they would likely have been recorded by a different user), so one of the duplicated file names can be named with the suffix, _1 or _2 (if there are 3 duplicates), and so on. E.g. Dag-Atalaata_1.ogg Dag-Atalaata_2.ogg etc.
  • To ensure conformity for all the words, we want the first letter of every word to be in caps, and the rest of the characters to be in lower case. i.e. Dag-Atalaata.ogg. We would like to rename all such files that don't conform, to now conform to this format.
  • We want to add Dagbani descriptions to all the files. They're currently only English or Tamil descriptions on the files. In Dagbani the description will take the format: Be ni boondi ... shɛm Dagbanli ni. E.g. for the file named Dag-Atalaata.ogg, the description in Dagbani will be Be ni boondi Atalaata shɛm Dagbanli ni.
  • We want to add Dagbani language captions to all the files. The captions will take this format: ... boligu. E.g. for the file named Dag-Atalaata.ogg, the caption in Dagbani will be Atalaata boligu

Many thanks for your help. -—M@sssly 14:56, 10 June 2021 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Africa again

Hello everyone. I have two others needs...

Need 1

According to petscan [1], there are 461 images that were uploaded on Wikimedia Commons as part of the contest, were taggued as belonging to a country category... but miss the general category... How this can happen is a bit beyond me. But bottom line... I need all those 461 images to have the following template added :

{{Wiki Loves Africa 2021}}

Can someone help ? @Vanbasten 23:  ? Thanks Anthere (talk) 19:17, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

This looks like something that can be done with AWB. I'll look into it, and potentially file a bot request for approval if I receive AWB perms. EpicPupper (talk) 21:51, 16 May 2021 (UTC)
✓ Done manually, there were only 10 according to PetScan when I checked. EpicPupper (talk) 21:20, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

Need 2

Also according to petscan [2], there are 225 images without a country mentionned, but also missing the category [[Category:Images from Wiki Loves Africa 2021 with unknown country‎ ]]

Many of those lost images are from User:Bukky658. He uploaded many images such as this one File:Beans porridge and fried plantains.jpg without using the upload tunnel. So categories... are a mess. Would it be possible to query all images done by User:Bukky658 AND with the category [[category:Images from Wiki Loves Africa 2021]] and add to all of them the following

{{Wiki Loves Africa 2021}}
Category:Images from Wiki Loves Africa 2021 in Nigeria‎]]

I am not sure how many images without country tags would remain after this.... but the remaining ones would need [[Category:Images from Wiki Loves Africa 2021 with unknown country‎ ]] ...

Anthere (talk) 19:23, 3 May 2021 (UTC)

(Probably) ✓ Done. I used VFC to query the images by Bukky658, but I'd prefer if someone takes a look at what I did, as I'm not 100 percent sure I did it right. EpicPupper (talk) 21:40, 14 June 2021 (UTC)

Mass Uploading of New Zealand Acts as Enacted

I just found that the New Zealand Legal Information Institute hosts a list of New Zealand Acts as enacted from 1841 to 2007, in the format of PDF, and is acceptable to Commons per {{PD-NZ-exempt}} and {{PD-EdictGov}}. As it is believed that the inclusion of these files will benefit other projects, especially English Wikisource, I'd like to ask if some bot operator can help with the uploading of these files. As COM:BATCH is inactive, I'll place the request here.

For reference, the following texts of acts have been uploaded by individual users, which should be avoided in uploading:

Splitting undeletion request sections into individual pages

Please see this discussion, and "Commons:Village pump/Proposals/Archive/2021/03#Create separate pages for every individual undeletion request" it had 3 (three) support votes and 1 (one) oppose vote. An earlier discussion from 2016 found at "Commons:Village pump/Proposals/Archive/2016/12#Convert Undeletion Requests to one page per request" has 4 (four) support votes and no oppose votes. And the comments by Xover: "Amen! The really high-volume pages are pretty hopeless through the watchlist even on desktop, and watching them drowns out all other pages to watch. Trying to follow a specific undeletion request (e.g. because I filed it) is a nightmare. Xover (talk) 13:35, 6 July 2021 (UTC)." and "I'll also add that the page is currently large enough to constitute a performance problem. Even using the reply tool (which aiui save partial page content through the API and is usually much faster) there is a noticeable lag when replying. Xover (talk) 09:10, 11 July 2021 (UTC).". So this issue is not unique to us mobile users.

So not only is there consensus to add individual pages for every undeletion request, there has been for over half a decade. Unfortunately nobody with the technical skills to do so has done that. I imagine that the layout would be the same as DR's and Requests for CheckUsers and that nothing about the current layout and archival system of the UnDR page have to change, just that sections should become their own pages. --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 10:59, 20 July 2021 (UTC)

Updating many source links

Many many files on Category:Collections from Museums Victoria and its subcategories have (for example) https://collections.museumvictoria.com.au/species/14286 as their source URL. That URL still works as a redirect, but the museum has since changed its website to match their new visual identity, and now use museumsvictoria on the URL. So i keep getting warning messages from my browser, since the old URL's safety certs seem to have expired. Updating them would also help with the common confusion between Museums Victoria and "Museum Victoria". Could someone run a bot to update all of these URLs? The URLs are in several different forms, some are formatted as external links, some are pasted without formatting on different fields of the Information template, some are on the LicenseReview template, but i don't think that affects the task. YuriNikolai (talk) 23:49, 2 August 2021 (UTC)

@YuriNikolai:  Doing…   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 13:51, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
@YuriNikolai: ✓ Done, but there are still 38 results here that don't seem to actually contain "museumvictoria.com.au".   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 16:33, 3 August 2021 (UTC)
So Pigsonthewing commented on Jeff G.'s page about broken links. Contrary to his alerts, most updates are valid and not broken. However, a few seem to be indeed broken. After much confusion, while looking into it (using File:Lantern Slide - Tangyes Ltd, Aerial View of Cornwall Works, Birmingham, England, circa 1909.jpg and File:Aerial View of Tangyes Ltd Cornwall Works Birmingham England circa 1909.png as an example), it seems the external links in all sections using the model http://collections.museumsvictoria.com.au/items/[number], especially on the external link "Info", indeed need to be updated; but the ones under "Image", that directly link to images, get broken when updated to the new URL and shouldn't be bot-corrected. However, some of these old URLs are broken everywhere and not saved even on the Wayback Machine (example here, mentioned on Jeff G.'s discussion page. I believe these should be manually found and updated to the museum's current URL format for them, as that image can be currently downloaded on the page using the http://collections.museumsvictoria.com.au/items/[number] URL model mentioned above, though not viewed directly on the browser ( i don't think that's a problem). Better than keeping permanently dead links as sources on some pages. YuriNikolai (talk) 17:18, 5 August 2021 (UTC)
I posted a proposal about this on Category talk:Tangyes Lantern Slide Collection. YuriNikolai (talk) 02:57, 11 August 2021 (UTC)

DoD images with incorrect dates

There are 876 US Department of Defense images with a wrong "1 January 1980" date: search. Some of them have the correct date in the description field, such as File:USMC-04796.jpg for example.

Could somebody:

  • Extract the correct date in the description field and replace the wrong date?
  • Mark the wrong date with the {{Wrong date}} template otherwise?

Thanks. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 01:01, 3 September 2021 (UTC)

I think it would be hard to programmatically extract the 'correct date' from free-form text like description text here. For instance, in your example image File:USMC-04796.jpg alone, the description contains both September 9 and September 8. How would you determine which one is correct here? – Ammarpad (talk) 15:39, 6 September 2021 (UTC)
The date is oftentimes after the location and between parentheses. In this case I'd say we should replace 1980-01-01 with 2005-09-08. I'd be happy as well with just tagging the date as wrong. Cryptic-waveform (talk) 16:39, 7 September 2021 (UTC)

Newsfeed of new pictures from a large category

Hello,

It is the second time I'm asking because nothing happened on the first try. I am a marine biologist and I would like to be informed when new pictures are added to the category corresponding to the animals I'm working on so I can review them and in particular the identification, and use them in Wikipedia articles. User:OgreBot used to provide me with a weekly gallery of such pictures, which was extremely useful (here's what it looked like), however this bot is no longer active. Wonderful, thanks ! The list would just be Category:Echinodermata and all of its subcategories... Cheers, FredD (talk) 07:07, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
@FredD What kinds of data do you need to show in the list? e.g., file name, user, etc. Kanashimi (talk) 11:13, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
The best would be the closest to User:FredD/Echinoderm_news, which was generated by Ogrebot. I just want to be notified of all new pictures in this categories tree, so I can identify, review and use them when useful in WP articles. Thanks ! FredD (talk) 12:37, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

This request was previously archived, but as there is consensus for it and the only limitation is technical I decided to list it again. @Jeff G.: Do you have the technical skills for this or can only one of the current operators do this? --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 20:54, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

@Donald Trung: I added wikitext and pages to support undeletion subpages on Commons BETA stemming from this edit. Krd has an archiving bot running there every 15 minutes. Please feel free to test, configure for use on mobile platforms, and translate there.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 22:26, 2 October 2021 (UTC)

Files from the Rijksmuseum

Re-categorize files from the Rijksmuseum that have been removed from the category tree Category:Rijksmuseum Amsterdam (examples: [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]) into the category Category:Collections of Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. --RobertLechner (talk) 17:18, 26 October 2021 (UTC)

@RobertLechner: I am a dummy with bot topic, but I just try to answer you something. Your request seems impossible. I can give two alternative solutions:
  1. all files (about 9000 files) from Category:Uncategorized images of the Rijksmuseum to be provided with the category Category:Collections of Rijksmuseum Amsterdam. Of course, it means massive duplicating.
  2. you will quarry a file list from Category:Uncategorized images of the Rijksmuseum, hold this list in your computer or in your Commons user page, and eg in every week or every month compare your list vs new list quarried from Category:Uncategorized images of the Rijksmuseum. So you can see which files have been removed from Category:Uncategorized images of the Rijksmuseum. Sidenotice: AutoWikiBrowser has the function "List comparer" and it will work well to your case--Estopedist1 (talk) 07:39, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
actually I'm interested in the files that are already not in the Category:Uncategorized images of the Rijksmuseum. --RobertLechner (talk) 17:56, 23 November 2021 (UTC)

Cleveland Museum of Art

Hi, Thousands of files from the Cleveland Museum of Art were uploaded by Madreiling (not active since August 2019), and Wikidata items created for them. However,

Could it be possible to fix that with a bot? i.e.

  1. Add the WD Q number in the Artwork template;
  2. Complete the WD item with information on Commons (at least the creator);
  3. Upload a JPEG version with the highest possible resolution;
  4. Add the JPEG version to the P18 property;
  5. Mark the JPEG version as preferred rank in WD;
  6. Use a Creator template for the Artist in Commons.

Thanks, Yann (talk) 14:48, 25 November 2021 (UTC)

Language clarification on UK legislation uploads by Fae.

On a number of uploads of UK legislation by Fae, the "Queen's Printer" version is linked back to a previously uploaded version.

The description given in the gallery entry for these is "Enacted Version", example : https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:The_Local_Authorities_etc._(Miscellaneous_Provision)_Order_1978_(UKSI_1978-440_qp).pdf

The problem is that the langauge usage here is the reverse of what legislation.gov.uk uses, which calls the version with ammendments the "in force" or " revised" version, Whereas the 'enacted' version is used to describe the version as originally enacted (i.e without amendments), and which IS often the same as the Queens Printer version.

Therefore I am requesting that a bot changes the "Enacted version" describer to "Version from legislation.gov.uk, which may incoporate revisions or ammendments" on all relevant uploads.

As approx 42,000 uploads are affected, it's not reasonable to do this manually, or even with AWB.

Thanks. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 12:15, 8 December 2021 (UTC)

As Fae is not currently uploading, I envisage this to be one-shot bot task as opposed to an ongoing situation.ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 12:16, 8 December 2021 (UTC)
Hi. Is there a list so we can know there are approx 42,000 uploads? And is the task just to change the "Enacted version" describer inside gallery tag to "Version from legislation.gov.uk, which may incoporate revisions or ammendments."? Kanashimi (talk) 23:19, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
It would just be a simple text search and replace for the relevant string.
The relevant search query - https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Search&search=incategory%3A%22Images+uploaded+by+F%C3%A6%22+insource%3Alegislation.gov.uk+filemime%3Apdf&ns0=1&ns6=1&fulltext=Search
Not all of these uploads have the specfied string. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 11:30, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
Looking at the task, I estimate that it's about 6000 Public General Acts to check in the first instance. (The bulk of the qp matching will be on various Statutory Instruments.)
Extension task would be to compile a list of all Legislation uploads that are the "revised" versions,(those that don't have the specified string present) and that do not have an equivalent -qp titled version (I.e no "original" version) present, so that other contributors can find the relevant Queens Printer versions for those items of legislation.

ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 11:32, 10 December 2021 (UTC)

@ShakespeareFan00 Hi. I am wondering if the changing in File:The Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) (No. 2) (Wales) (Amendment) (No. 13) (Llanelli etc.) Regulations 2020 (WSI 2020-1040 qp).pdf and File:The Children (Protection at Work) Regulations 2000 (UKSI 2000-1333 qp).pdf meets you request? I will note however that the Chinese translation you provided in the two examples, should NOT attempt to translate "legislation.gov.uk" , In the two examples given it mistranslated that as "legacy.gov.uk" which is not correct. ShakespeareFan00 (talk) 07:43, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Add files in Auckland Museum categories to an administrative category for ISA campaigns

Hello, I work at Auckland Museum. We have run 40 ISA campaigns recently and I would like to have all the files used in them added to the administrative category Category:Images from Auckland Museum used in ISA campaigns. My aim is to run a single SPARQL query that would allow me to extract the “depicts” tags added by ISA users to each item.

These are the categories:

I looked into using Commons Commander and Visual File Change for this categorisation, but neither seemed particularly suited to doing this efficiently. AutoWikiBrowser is beyond my current abilities. Apologies if there is an easy way for me to do this myself; please let me know if so. Thanks, Hugh. —Hugh (talk) 20:10, 17 November 2021 (UTC)

@HughLilly Can you explain more clearly and give some examples? Kanashimi (talk) 23:01, 26 November 2021 (UTC)
Hi. I'd like all of the images in all the categories I listed to also be in Category:Images from Auckland Museum used in ISA campaigns. Sorry; there was an error in my syntax so that category name didn't show up in my original post. I've adjusted it now.
As an example, all the images in the Dresses in Auckland Museum category should also be in Category:Images from Auckland Museum used in ISA campaigns. Many thanks. —Hugh (talk) 20:20, 29 November 2021 (UTC)
It is possible for a bot to do the task. However, how about add all categories to Category:Images from Auckland Museum used in ISA campaigns as sub-categories? Kanashimi (talk) 12:53, 30 November 2021 (UTC)

Re-uploading of files in Category:PD-Gottlieb

Most of the files in this category were originally uploaded from the LOC’s Flickr page, but there are better versions available for download from the LOC website. The LOC file pages are already linked from each Commons file page at the line "Persistent URL".

Could a bot mass-upload the better versions?

Example: File:(Downbeat, New York, N.Y., ca. 1948) (LOC) (5269526040).jpg has a better version on the LOC website, linked from the line:

Persistent URL: http://hdl.loc.gov/loc.music/gottlieb.11221

The identifier "11221" can be used to get a direct link to a higher resolution version of the image at the URL:

https://tile.loc.gov/image-services/iiif/service:music:musgottlieb:musgottlieb-11221:ver01:0001/full/pct:100.0/0/default.jpg

The task would be to upload a new version of the file to Commons from that URL.

Could a bot move and rename every file within the subcategories at Category:San Antonio Express Vol. 39 from volume 39 to volume 49? I think AWB requires an admin to have mass filemover rights as the moving part is fairly straightforward. Volume 45 is also actually 55 as well. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:26, 8 February 2022 (UTC)

Hi @Ricky81682 - could you link to somewhere that explains the correct numbering for these? Thanks! EpicPupper (talk) 05:48, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
Hey @EpicPupper, look at User_talk:Dominic/2021#San_Antonio_Express,_Vol._39. If you check the first page of the volume 39 (like this image), you'll see it is XLIX (49) not XXXIX. The rest there I got the Roman numerals screwed up but 45 is LV (see this image) is 55. At least it looks like the entire volume is incorrect together. There's still over 72k pages in Category:San Antonio Express but that's another matter lol. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 07:03, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
that is a real task. VScode fanboy (talk) 11:41, 30 March 2022 (UTC)

Correction of texts of links to Wikipedia articles in file descriptions

In file description pages, especially in the description parameter, links should not look like e.g. en:Mariupol (with visible “en:”). In this example, either {{w|Mariupol}} or [[:en:Mariupol|Mariupol]] may be used instead (real examples).
More file description pages may be found e.g. using hastemplate:en insource:/\{\{en\|([^}]*)\[\[:en:([^|:#{}\]]+)\]\][^a-z]/.
Is somebody able to run such a task for different languages at once? --Leyo 15:14, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

Note that there is currently a discussion on this topic at Help talk:Interwiki linking and there is currently no consensus. Until consensus forms one way or another, it would probably be best to pause this request. From Hill To Shore (talk) 00:05, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

Newspapers from libraries

Numerous images in subcategories in Category:Images from libraries in the United States are uncategorized images of newspaper pages. For example, Category:Media contributed by Coleman Public Library has probably 5700 files that could easily be organized into a Coleman Voice category (or a Coleman Voice by year category). For example, File:Coleman Voice. (Coleman, Tex.), Vol. 10, No. 48, Ed. 1 Thursday, June 2, 1892 - DPLA - 827d0019c7edef9a9ba1e13daa8bda78 (page 2).jpg could go into Category:Coleman Voice, 1892 which would be a subcategory of Category:Newspapers of the United States, 1892. -- Ricky81682 (talk) 03:16, 20 April 2022 (UTC)

Adding categories to files in Category:Media needing categories

In the Village pump the large number of images without categories is discussed. As a result this request. To clarify I have given some examples. The basic principle is that the bot can check a file with an image whether there is a link to one or more Wikipedia pages and/or Wikidata. Then the bot checks the Wikipedia page(s) for a link to Wikidata. If there is no link to Wikidata, there is no point continuing. The chance that there is a link to Commons and not a link to Wikidata is extremely small in my opinion. In that case, there must be a link to Commons on the Wikipedia page itself. Often these links are "empty" because there is not yet a Commons page.

There are also images that already have a category, but also the "media needing category" category. For example c:File:Sümeyra Kaya.jpg. It is important that when the bot adds categories, it removes the "media needing category" at the same time. It is also useful to check what happens when the bot adds a category that is already present. For example "Dogs" at c:File:Taimyr1.jpg and Wikidata.

With images of persons (in Wikidata Q5) two things are important, namely the occupation and the place of birth. If the profession does not have a Commons category and neither the place of birth, there is no point in continuing. If the profession does have a Commons category, it can be added to the image file. If there are several professions it has to be checked whether there is a Commons category for each of the professions and if so added. If the place of birth is a category, it will be added. If the occupation has a category and the place of birth is listed, but does not have a category, the category of the country is added. Just adding the country as the only category seems to me to make little sense, especially for very large countries.

Example 1. File:César do Rego Monteiro.png has a link to the PT Wikipedia and a link to Wikidata. In Wikidata we see that there is no Commons category. P31 (instance of) is "human" (Q5), then becomes P106 (occupation) important. Here it is politician (Q82955). The place of birth (P19) is known, but there is no Commons category for União. Then P27 (country of citizenship) is Brazil is important and can be added as category. If P27 is not given the P17 (country) value in União can be used. The two categories "Politicians" and "Brazil" has been added to the image file. Humans can change this to "Politicians of Brazil" because I think it will be too complicated for the bot to do that.

Example 2. File:Carlos Grana em 2011.jpg has links to 3 PT wikipedia pages. One gives in the corresponding Wikidata for P31 (instance of) a Wikimedia list and no Commons category, the second for P31 a human (Q5) and the third for P31 Municipal election in Brazil (Q10271631) and no Commons category. The second one should generate the categories "politicians" and "São Bernardo do Campo".

Example 3. When there is a link to a user page on Wikipedia, just skip it. For example File:DjAnupamGopalpur.jpg. If there is a link to a user page AND a link to a Wikipedia page follow the WP as in File:John C McCoy, wife and daughter.jpg, where a link is to Commons "Oakland Cemetery (Dallas)".

Example 4. File:Enrique Wong.jpg has several links to Wikipedia. The links w:en:Enrique Wong Pujada, w:es:Enrique Wong and w:fr:Enrique Wong all go to a page where also the Commons category is given. The links w:es:Periodo parlamentario 2021-2026 del Congreso de la República del Perú and w:fr:Législature 2021-2026 du Congrès de la République du Pérou do not have a Commons category and point to the same Wikidata page.

Example 5. File:Full section of Selangor Symphony Orchestra.jpg has one link to Wikipedia. That page shows no Commons link. The link to Wikidata shows that it is a symphony orchestra (Q239582) with the corresponding Commons category "Symphony orchestras". The country (P17) is Malaysia (Q833) with the Commons category Malaysia. So the categories that can be added to the image file are "Symphony orchestras" and "Malaysia".

Example 6. File:Martha Chávez 2011.jpg has 3 links to the ES Wikipedia and each article has a link to Commons. In that case all 3 Commons categories should be added. "Peruvian general election, 2006", "Martha Chávez" and "Fujimorism". It is up to a user to decide which ones to keep.

Example 7. File:Mounasri.jpg has a link to a Wikipedia page. There is a link to Wikidata. It concerns a writer, and the place of birth (P19). From that place Warangal the Commonscategory (P373) can be found. The added categories are "Writers" and "Warangal district".

Example 8. File:Parche PONAL Verde.png has 3 links to the ES Wikipedia. Only one has a link to Commons, but the link is to the gallery. From there is the link to the category with a different name. The bot should be able to select the category. This happens often that link in the article is to the gallery. The best solution in my opinion is always to go to Wikidata and use the value at P373 (Commonscategorie).

Example 9. to show that things can go somewhat wrong. File:Selkirk Mountains looking west.jpg gives a link to w:en:Ymir, British Columbia. Although the page shows 8 pictures, there is no link to Commons and most pictures have nothing directly to do with Ymir and that causes the problem. The Wikidata shows that it is a "human settlement" in Canada. That should result in the Commons category "Populated places in Canada". I have already added the right category "Selkirk Mountains". In situation like this it is better to have the category "Populated places in Canada" as in this case than no category at all.

Example 10. File:Barrett Creek BC.jpg has a link to Wikipedia. From there is a link to Wikidata. There is no link to Commons. P31 gives that it is a watercourse with the Commons category "Watercourses". Important is the location. For me I would prefer one lower level than country if it is available AND there is a Commons category for it. In this case P131 with British Columbia and the Commons category "British Columbia".

On purpose I did not add categories to most of the files mentioned above. If there are any questions, please let me know. Wouter (talk) 13:15, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

  • We also have Special:UncategorizedFiles. I don't know what you are asking for here as it sounds way too complicated for a single bot to create. Are you asking for a bot to create a list and for humans to curate that? That seems reasonable. If you are asking for a bot that checks a file, looks into Wikidata, reads the Wikidata details and then adds the categories all without human input I expect chaos afterwards but maybe someone much smarter than me can create the AI to do all this. Isn't Category:Media needing categories alone like 4 million files? -- Ricky81682 (talk) 01:47, 19 April 2022 (UTC)
    • I am indeed asking for a bot that adds the categories without human input. The human input is what is available in Wikidata. I don't expect chaos. There are about 1.4 million files in "media needing categories". I expect that on average about 2% can be successfully treated by the bot. That's 28000 files. It takes me about 2 minutes per file to find the right category. For 28000 files it is 930 hours. Plus the extra time spent looking at images that ultimately can't be categorized because of too little information. As mentioned in the Village pump, there is the problem of a huge number of images in one day due to bulk uploads (May 22, 2021 21619 files, March 31, 2022 24942 files). Because the pages have to be reloaded 10-20 times, it takes about 5 hours only to see the thumbnails of a day. That's the reason for me to skip these pages. I expect the bot will have no problem with it. Wouter (talk) 15:59, 20 April 2022 (UTC)
    • I have also asked in Wikidata if this question can be handled better there. Wouter (talk) 20:03, 26 April 2022 (UTC)

Further to a discussion at Commons:Village pump/Copyright, it would be hepful if a bot could put all files tagged with the problematic template {{PD-BNF}} in Category:Files tagged as PD-BNF to be checked, a sub-category of Category:Images from Gallica to be checked. Could it be possible to run the bot from time to time afterwards to check for new additions of the template? Thank you very much in advance. @Yann: FYI. — Racconish💬 18:22, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

@Jeff G.: perfect! Can you also help me for the needed regex to catch the url in {{PD-BNF}}? Thanks, — Racconish💬 17:05, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
@Racconish: The example as written at Template:PD-BNF/doc doesn't work, as "1=" is required to escape the "=" in the URL. Other than that, please be more specific.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 21:04, 26 April 2022 (UTC)
@Jeff G.: , the regex should be able to catch
  • either a "manuscript" url (e.g. https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8626777x),
  • or a "folio" url (e.g. https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8626777x/f13);

  • or without such a space (e.g. {{PD-BNF |1=https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8626777x}})
Thanks, — Racconish💬 08:37, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
Also when the source is mentioned such as https://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/btv1b8626777x, it should be replaced with {{gallica|btv1b8626777x}}. Yann (talk) 09:13, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
As a side note, the replacement mentioned by Yann is IMO merely cosmetic and in any case irrelevant if we are talking about a VFC strategy for the files in their current state. And since we are at it, I notice some file descriptions omit the "1=" part. — Racconish💬 09:22, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
Well, the {{Gallica}} template puts the file into Category:Files from Gallica, which is useful. Yann (talk) 11:10, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
Certainly, but we are talking here about emptying Category:Files tagged as PD-BNF to be checked which is already a sub-category of Category:Files from Gallica, isn't it? — Racconish💬 11:45, 27 April 2022 (UTC)
@Racconish and Yann: There could be a Category:Images from Gallica (flat list) or Category:Files from Gallica (flat list) containing all and exempt from COM:OVERCAT. Whom or what would that help?   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 20:25, 27 April 2022 (UTC)

User:RonBot

has someone taken over User:RonBot's task of identifying flickr files? RZuo (talk) 13:39, 9 May 2022 (UTC)

Purging main page everyday

does someone have a bot that can purge or null edit pages? it would be nice if you can purge Main Page after 0000 UTC everyday. see Commons:Village_pump/Technical#Main_page_shows_me_stuff_from_2_days_ago. RZuo (talk) 14:28, 10 May 2022 (UTC)

Yes, it would be useful. That bot needs to have admin right. Yann (talk) 14:55, 10 May 2022 (UTC)
Maybe it's worth confirming if a purge is sufficient or if a touch/null-edit is needed. The first does not need admin rights, the latter does, as I just tested. --Schlurcher (talk) 10:30, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
@Schlurcher: a purge should be sufficient. i tested before being logged out in incognito mode. i could purge and it showed newest version after purging. RZuo (talk) 11:14, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
i also tried purging while logged in. the main page in incognito mode showed old stuff before purging and new stuff afterwards. RZuo (talk) 11:15, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
✓ Done Added this to another daily purge that I'm already doing. Will move the task also to 5 Minutes past server midnight. --Schlurcher (talk) 09:41, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Minutes of the Defense Plant Corporation Vol. 45 part 2

There are just over 800 images titled "File:Volume 45- Part 2; August 16-31, 1944 - DPLA - 5a2c47def387e577ddbe2e08aa2ca6c5 (page 2).jpg", etc (which is a terrible name)[8] that I would like to add into Category:Minutes of the Defense Plant Corporation Vol. 45 part 2. I don't think file renaming is necessary but it would be helpful if a bot could just add the category so the files are somewhere. :) I'm sure we may break it down further later. -- 23:52, 27 May 2022 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ricky81682 (talk • contribs)

User:Fæ: Portable Antiquities Scheme and more

User:Fæ has understandably but unfortunately left the project. He ran a number of important bot projects. Can someone pick some or all of these up, please? Or comment on any that are already in hand?

In particular, I'd like to see his Portable Antiquities Scheme uploads restarted - these comprise images of archaeological finds from the UK. Also image uploads from the UK Ministry of Defence.

I'm not sure whether the code for these projects is online, or whether Fæ would be willing to provide it by email, but I can ask, if there is interest. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 09:53, 2 June 2022 (UTC)

@Pigsonthewing: - if the last working source code could be obtained, I am interested in looking into it. If source code cannot be obtained, I may be able to look into it at some point, but it will inevitably be much further down on my list of priorities. Askeuhd (talk) 08:46, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Solving FaceMePLS uploads 2022-05-18 Flickr Uploads

There are over 5,000 in Flickr images needing human review that were uploaded by User:1VeertjeBot. These images need review, similar to what User:FlickreviewR 2 already does, however these images are relying on the archived link to prove that they were at some point under the correct license, since they are currently under All Rights Reserved. I am requesting a bot go through these files to review them with their archived links, while also adding {{Flickr-change-of-license}}. Thanks, Elisfkc (talk) 17:16, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Adding missing descriptions

There are ~1200 uploads by Benjah-bmm27 missing a description (incategory:Media_lacking_a_description Benjah-bmm27). The file name could be inserted as (provisional) description using a bot: {{en|File name without extension}} --Leyo 08:49, 21 June 2022 (UTC)

Lampasas Daily Leader

There are about 16k pages of the Lampasas Daily Leader in Category:Media contributed by Lampasas Public Library that need categories. Bot to replace Faebot's potential copyvio finder...

[[9]]

There needs to be an effort made to replace the checks Faebot was undertaking, in the specfic:

  • checking inside the text of a PDF/DJU for a Copyright symbol, ro Copyright messaae.
  • Flagging up licensing inconsistencies such as UK (London, Glasgow) etc published works with a PD-US-Gov license.

Based on the existing work the bot had done, I've already found 3 potential copyvios that may have otherwise not been detected.

Distribution of media files by years

Hello. I have a request for you to use a bot to distribute some of the photos in the Wikimedia Commons categories into child categories by year:

  1. Category:Files from Kremlin.ru - 1,188
  2. Category:Images from RIA Novosti - 254
  3. Category:President.az - 264
  4. Category:Images from tatarstan.ru - 2,962
  5. Category:Images from president.gov.ua - 553
  6. Category:Mos.ru - 778
  7. Category:Media from the Russian Ministry of Defence - 2,266
  8. Category:Images from the German Federal Archive - 85,193
  9. Category:Premier.gov.ru - 263
  10. Category:Government.ru - 223
  11. Category:Files from duma.gov.ru - 614
  12. Category:Media from Council.gov.ru - 425
  13. Category:Files from Prime Minister's Office published by Press Information Bureau - 27,097
  14. Category:Images from the Chamber of Deputies (Italy) - 6,438
  15. Category:Images from Italian Senate of the Republic - 4,447
  16. Category:Images from the Presidency of the Italian Republic - 4,129
  17. Category:Images by Ministerstwo Obrony Narodowej — 4,691
  18. Category:PolishPresidentCopyright — 1,743
  19. Category:Files provided by Senate of Poland — 1,590
  20. Category:Files provided by Chancellery of the Prime Minister of Poland — 15,944

Thank you. MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 19:41, 14 July 2022 (UTC)

These are source categories usually added by a template. These shouldn't be split up by year. The subcategories should be deleted. Multichill (talk) 20:45, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
@Butko and MasterRus21thCentury: I undid the by year modifications to the templates which hadn't been undone already. Multichill (talk) 21:12, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
I have already contacted Butko, but his bot did not work. MasterRus21thCentury (talk) 21:20, 14 July 2022 (UTC)
@Multichill: If a flat list is important, then I propose to put file into both categories - into flat list category and into a category by year. For example, a file will have two categories Category:Mos.ru, 2022 and Category:Mos.ru (flat list). Source code of template will be:

[[Category:Mos.ru (flat list)|{{PAGENAME}}]]
{{#if: {{{year|}}}|[[Category:Mos.ru, {{{year|}}}|{{PAGENAME}}]]}}

This will be more easy for image search and navigation. --Butko (talk) 08:05, 15 July 2022 (UTC)

This is not the venue to try to change a longer standing practice of not mixing topic categories/source categories and to not use templates to add topic categories. Because that actually makes Commons harder to navigate.
If the year is relevant, the file should be in a relevant category like in your example Category:June 2022 in Moscow.
This is not the right venue to discus the changing of such a long standing concept. Go to a broader venue like Commons:Village pump if you think it should be changed. I doubt it, but you'll never know.
Might be more useful to invest your time in structured data on Commons instead of this. Multichill (talk) 16:12, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
I've writen here because it was your action related to this topic. If "long standing concept" is exist, please give link to it. So I will write there --Butko (talk) 18:45, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
Commons:Categories has some info, but the talk page isn't very visible. Multichill (talk) 19:47, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
I can't see in Commons:Categories any restrictions related to categorisation by source and by timing. Can you quote, please? --Butko (talk) 10:33, 16 July 2022 (UTC)

bulk renaming

Within Category:Georgiy Jacobson. Beetles Russia and Western Europe are files whose names are "Jacobs01.jpg" through "Jacobs80.jpg".

At the very least, these files are wrongly named, because the author's name was not "Jacobs", it was "Jacobson". Normally I do my own file renames, but there's 80 of them and I'd lose track. I think there's a way to automate this.

For the 80 files whose names are purely of the format "Jacobs##.jpg", I would like the string "Jacobs" to be replaced by the string "Georgiy Jacobson - Beetles Russia and Western Europe - plate". Can this be done by a script or similar?

Thank you. DS (talk) 04:48, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Multiple edits

In Category:F-35A Lightning II, please edit all subcategories that match the name scheme of "01-2345 (aircraft)". These subcategories use a template string like {{usaf serial|08|0747|F-35A Lightning II|F-35 Lightning II}}. Please replace the third parameter "F-35A Lightning II" with "F-35A Lightning II in service with the United States Air Force" for all of them. This is to diffuse the parent category and sort the registration numbers directly to the US Air Force subcategory. De728631 (talk) 19:09, 23 August 2022 (UTC)

Dictionnaire raisonné du mobilier français de l’époque carlovingienne à la Renaissance

All the files in Category:Dictionnaire raisonné du mobilier français de l’époque carlovingienne à la Renaissance, tome 6 have names that are just 06-###.png, which is not useful; they should at least include the name of the book from which the images were taken. (Ideally, they'd have properly descriptive names instead of just serial numbers, but that's more than can be done in bulk.) There's a parallel problem for the category that has all the images from volume 5. The category for volume 1 does not have this problem, as its files are properly named; volumes 2, 3, and 4 have not had their images extracted as of this posting.

Thus, for instance, "File:06-016.png" should be "File:Dictionnaire raisonné du mobilier français de l’époque carlovingienne à la Renaissance, tome 6 - 016.png". If someone could implement this, that would be most helpful. Some filenames are of the form "06-###a.png" or "06-###b.png" or similar; this would need to be taken into account.

The 411 .PNGs from Volume 5 and the 325 .PNGs from Volume 6 are all in use on User:Edempure/gallery; if those replacements were all done at once, instead of automatically editing that gallery page 736 times, that would probably also be useful. (Easiest method I can see would be to do a global search-and-replace on the wikitext for Edempure's page before doing the bulk renames. Edempure won't mind, as they've been inactive since 2009.)

Thank you in advance. DS (talk) 19:03, 18 September 2022 (UTC)

YouTube

Hello, I'm a patroller and license reviewer. I came across instance where I can see upload from YouTube with Template:YouTube CC-BY doesn't have a correspondent License/YouTube review template in file description, which help admins/reviewer to recognise if the file is suitable for commons or not. So, I request a bot/scripts to fetch files which are missing review template, because YouTube videos are removed shortly and it's hard to determine any change of license or if video was actually licensed CC during upload.

Sharing few instances below :-

Thanks -- C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 13:56, 19 September 2022 (UTC)

Time within a video is also helpful for each screenshot extracted from that video. Pinging @Kalbhag, GorillaWarfare as uploaders.   — Jeff G. please ping or talk to me 18:24, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
Timestamp advice noted for future reference. I uploaded the Loomer screenshot over a year ago so I have no idea what the timestamp would have been, but she's in front of the same background and wearing the same top throughout if you need to confirm that it's from that video. In the meantime, I've added {{YoutubeReview}} so a third-party reviewer can verify. GorillaWarfare (she/her • talk) 18:34, 19 September 2022 (UTC)
@Jeff G. and GorillaWarfare: , May be I wasn't able to convey myself appropriately above. I was saying that the examples which I shared above are not just 2/fews uploads only, that if it caught your eyes you will add review template and mark the file as reviewed or tag it for deletion. My concern was I was investigating user who were having YouTube upload but no review template, and the number is pretty high more than 100+, sadly I lost the bookmark. If you use this {{From YouTube}} in your upload, their is an archive features which doesn't work well all the time. Timestamp will only help if we have the YouTube link working. Lastly, Pinging @AntiCompositeNumber has a bot running for upload with missing license. If something like these comes up for this incidents that would be great. Thanks --C1K98V (💬 ✒️ 📂) 02:39, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
  • As discussed with C1K98V on IRC, this seems to be a valid and current issue we are facing where users forget or do not know about the requirements for license review. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 10:09, 20 September 2022 (UTC)
  • I think it is a good idea to check for files from YouTube without a review. But I tried to do a query on https://petscan.wmflabs.org/ (I can't copy the usual "Link to a pre-filled form for the query you just ran with and without auto-run." for some reason) and I got 54539 results! It seems there are a lot of possible things to sort out. For example if there is a VRTS or if the file is PD-old etc. So to do it we need someone to do a lot of work before we can start up a bot. --MGA73 (talk) 14:49, 20 September 2022 (UTC)

Idea of a location-based categorisation bot

just an idea, not a request. it'd be great if the global map is entirely divided into smaller pieces (as precise as the level of cities/counties), then a bot adds categories based on coord data available on some old files in "Category:Media needing categories as of...". for example, coord shows File:-i---i- (27936399264).jpg was taken in Béni Mellal-Khénifra. a human can do this job but honestly this is just a mechanical task which a bot is capable of. this bot-added cat would serve as a first step for users to sort the files further down the cat tree. Creators with Wikidata items

A bot (or bots) has carelessly added (example: [10]) to many of my files a structured data "creator" property with the value and qualifiers:

While these may be strictly true, there is a Wikidata item (d:Q15136093) which better represents me.

The same occurs for other contributors.

Can a bot resolve this, for my files and others'?

At the very least this should look (in my case) like:

Person's last name in red in categories

There are categories of people where the person's last name is a red link. The manual steps I do are to create a new category of the surname where the only information is: {{Wikidata Infobox}} and [[Category:Surnames]]. The next step is to look up the last name in Wikidata and add the category name to P373 and the category name with Category as prefix for “Multilingual sites”. Is it possible for a bot to look up the categories where there is a red link to a last name and perform the actions described above? Wouter (talk) 11:34, 5 December 2022 (UTC)

Coming back again with another new set of categories

Yet another set were improperly named, and thus a new set of proper ones must be made. These are "[year] by topic by month", going from ~1780 to present day. Conveniently I have recently made a template that allows for DMC usage automatically, {{AutoDMC}}, so simply creating these ~200 categories with that template alone and nothing else will work splendidly. @Jeff G., thanks, but (as per my pings) unfortunately I see issues. The way you added the template at the top broke the "Summary" section header; see e.g. here. I think they should probably ideally go under the {{Information}} template, but they should at least be somewhere where they aren't breaking anything. (Separately, the categorization in this area seems to be a complete mess, so I'm going to open a thread on that at the Village Pump. Category:360° panoramic photographs is currently a subcategory of Category:360° panoramas, but it's unclear what distinction there is, and there are several other categories that also seem possibly redundant.) {{u|Sdkb}}talk 17:30, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

Template documentation talk pages

Please can someone's bot redirect all red-linked talk pages of template dementation subpages, to the corresponding template talk pages, if the latter exist?

For example Template talk:Published/doc to Template talk:Published.

The task then needs to be added to the chores of a daily, weekly or monthly maintenance bot.

This is, for example, done routinely on en.Wikipedia, without issue, and helps to avoid new issues from being raised on the little-watched subpages. Andy Mabbett (Pigsonthewing); Talk to Andy; Andy's edits 15:06, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
