From Wikimedia Commons, the free media repository

Hello and well met. I uploaded several pictures of professional wrestlers on Wikimedia Commons from Flickr, but at some point I was asked to hand the origina uploader's license via COM:VRT. I saw plenty of other photos from the same Flickr uploaders which were good to go with copyright licenses and to me it seems I have made the same steps. I would like to ask you to review my uploads and tell me what is wrong with them since they received a deletion tag. The files are:

CommonsDelinker

Hello sir.
Some page on Wikimedia Commons called CommonsDelinker/commands contains the following information:

"Click here to process category move commands immediately."

After clicking, it redirects to https://sbot.toolforge.org/catbot/index.php?ref=cdc, unfortunately the website does not work. Is it possible to fix this problem?

unecessary Flickr review

I'm a reviewer and the copyright holder of some images uploaded to Commons at the same time I upload them to Flickr. I link back to the Flickr file as a courtesy, they are not ported from Flickr. It's not necessary to review these images. Is there some way this bot can skip past these images?

Licencia de imagen

Buenas noches. Saludos. CatPag (talk) 20:42, 12 September 2024 (UTC)

Flickr bot fail more files than usual with size not found

Hi! I noticed that more files than usual fail with size not found. If I ask for a new review it passes the file. Sometimes it takes 4 reverts before it passes. If you can do anything about it it will be great. MGA73 (talk) 16:56, 2 November 2024 (UTC)

The bot has ceased working

Hello Zhuyifei1999, the bot is currently stuck, it seems - there is a huge queue. Files that I have uploaded 28 hours ago have still not been reviewed, but I don't know when the problem started. Thank you for looking into it! Edelseider (talk) 13:03, 28 November 2024 (UTC)

Hello, @Zhuyifei1999: please do something, the bot is definitely not working any more and the queue is growing. Thank you! --Edelseider (talk) 07:47, 29 November 2024 (UTC)

FlickreviewR 2 has stopped again

Last edit 21 hours ago, cc @Eatcha, Multichill, Stang, Steinsplitter, and WhitePhosphorus: AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 18:53, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

I had a look at the process, and as far as I can tell it’s in the exact same situation as described in T374152: a neverending read() from a connection to text-lb.eqiad.wikimedia.org. I recommend the same solution: a health check which automatically restarts the bot if a certain tmpfile hasn’t been touched in a while (see QuickCategories commit) – assuming that each individual edit takes less than ca. 10–30 seconds, at least. FlickreviewR 2 getting 403'd by Flickr

Since 21:30 today, the FlickreviewR 2 has stopped reviewing the files and flr-framework.err is full of ex.

[2025-01-14 22:12:37] Sleeping for 60 seconds, received 403 from https://live.staticflickr.com/7281/16727651966_6951d76d15_o_d.jpg

It seems like I can curl files from the bastion, but from a k8s shell I got

$ curl https://live.staticflickr.com/7281/16727651966_6951d76d15_o_d.jpg
<html><body><h1>403 Forbidden</h1>
Request forbidden by administrative rules.
</body></html>

Seems like this will probably require some contact with them to resolve. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 22:24, 14 January 2025 (UTC)

FWIW, I apparently got a better response once with curl -H 'User-Agent: [my email address]' (curl said it didn’t want to write binary output to my terminal); but after that I now get the 403 error again, even if I vary the user agent a bit. (Unfortunately I used curl -v and mosh ate the scrollback, so I can’t say for sure what the status code of the seemingly-successful response was.) I agree with your assessment, but just to be sure, does the bot use a good user agent? Lucas Werkmeister (talk) 22:37, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
I wonder if there is some hidden rate limiting? The Toolforge bastions have their own public IP addresses while the Kubernetes cluster nodes would end up behind the 185.15.56.1 (nat.cloudgw.eqiad1.wikimediacloud.org) SNAT address.
I just tested 1) from my local laptop, 2) from the dev.toolforge.org bastion, and 3) from inside a webservice python3.11 shell shell on the Toolforge Kubernetes cluster and had identical success with all three attempts. My test command was curl -v -o foo.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/7281/16727651966_6951d76d15_o_d.jpg. I was hoping the -v header dump would show some rate limit counter, but it did not obviously include any. I did see an x-cache header stating "Miss from cloudfront" in the laptop and bastion responses and "Hit from cloudfront" on the Kubernetes response. All 3 responses had different via headers pointing to cloudfront servers. I guess also potentially relevant is that all 3 tests negotiated an HTTP/2 session. -- BDavis (WMF) (talk) 23:30, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
I don't see a User-Agent set in https://yifeibot.toolforge.org/gitweb/?p=botscripts.git;a=blob;f=o/toolserver/bryan/flickr/bots/flickreviewr.py;h=99b13230fb69806edda810e0a25310d63db3e59b;hb=refs/heads/master#l342 . I'll fix that and see if it helps. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 02:13, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
I have added a User-Agent to the image requests. It doesn't seem to have changed anything. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 03:14, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
I've got the same problem with my bot, Flickr now intentionnally limits the number of direct accesses to live.* URLs, see here. It seems they don't want to say what is the enforced rate limit, so probably the WMF has to contact Flickr directly. vip (talk) 00:13, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
I wonder if the Flickr Foundation, who wrote Flickypedia, could help. They at least have an email address. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 00:51, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
Maybe this might be of interest to @Alexwlchan. RoyZuo (talk) 10:27, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
Pinging @Sannita (WMF), as WMF support/resources might be needed here. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 01:27, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
The polite question could be "what administrative rules?".   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:38, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
Based on the forum thread, anything more than 1 request per second will 403 out due to flickr not wanting to be used just as a "hosting" site the you embed, rather they want you to download the file and host it yourself. Still unsure why our usecase would be flagged, but I don't know how the bot gets licensing data. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 04:03, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
The person I know is keeping contact with the Flickypedia people is currently out of office, because she's at a regional conference (or is coming back from it). I'll flag this for Monday to her, and hopefully will let you know soon. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 14:02, 17 January 2025 (UTC)
Unfortunately I don't have any specific information about Flickr's rate limits.
The generic recommendation is to submit a Help request to Flickr directly: https://www.flickrhelp.com/hc/en-us/requests/new
But I’ll also drop a link to this thread in the company Slack, and ask if there’s a way to get the limits raised/removed for Wikimedia Commons users. Do the FlickreviewR/Toolforge requests all come from a articularr IP address? (I had a quick look, but couldn’t find anything.)
[I helped build Flickypedia and I work at the Flickr Foundation, which is a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit and not part of the Flickr.com company.] Alexwlchan (talk) 14:28, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@Alexwlchan: Thanks for your support.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:32, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
I’m chatting to engineers at Flickr.com; two follow-up questions:
  1. Are the HTTP 403 errors coming from image requests, or Flickr API requests? (It sounds like just image requests, but if it’s API requests or both that’s helpful to know.)
  2. What User-Agent is the Flickr Review R bot using?
Alexwlchan (talk) 15:45, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@Alexwlchan: If no User-Agent is currently in use, what would they suggest?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:52, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@Alexwlchan Looks like API requests are working fine, but image requests are getting 429s now. User agent for image requests should be FlickreviewR 2 (yifeibot.flr@toolforge.org; https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/User:FlickreviewR_2) python-requests/2.28.2. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 16:12, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
And like BDavis (WMF) mentioned, all requests from Toolforge should be coming from 185.15.56.1 (nat.cloudgw.eqiad1.wikimediacloud.org). AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 16:17, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
I've spoken to Flickr engineering, and they've pushed a fix for the bot's rate limiting issues – please can you try it and let me know if all is well now? Alexwlchan (talk) 17:31, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
@Alexwlchan FlickreviewR 2 is running again now, thanks for the help. Do you know if they exempted all of Toolforge or just this user agent? AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 17:38, 23 January 2025 (UTC)

Is there any update as to when this bot will be working again? There's currently 17,121 files waiting to be reviewed. (I'm not technical and this bot is very helpful) Gaia Octavia Agrippa (talk) 12:39, 21 January 2025 (UTC)

Update: For some reasons the bot reviewed 3 images on 2025-01-20. All were returned as "flickr_not_found" and were reverted.廣九直通車 (talk) 13:52, 21 January 2025 (UTC)
And it just reviewed a lot of images, all returning "flickr_not_found". Might need a mass revert. 沪A 05683DS5A-0043 11:46, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Flickr is now responding with status 429:

which the bot was not prepared to handle. I have now adjusted the logic and it should handle those appropriately, but it doesn't solve the problem of Flickr blocking requests from Toolforge. As far as rollback goes, [1] indicates there are over 15k files that were incorrectly reviewed. That's way more than I'm going to roll back on my account. User:Sannita (WMF), have you been able to make contact with anyone? --AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 13:00, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Also, thank you for the Phabricator ticket, I forwarded it to my contact point. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 14:37, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
@AntiCompositeNumber, I'm humbly offering my service for the mass revert, as I was the one who reverted the 75k edits by WLKbot. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 16:32, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
In addition to what was said above: there is an abnormally high number of 15K images in Category:Flickr images needing human review. Is it posible to revert or rerun? Thanks — NickK (talk) 20:56, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Reverting should fix it, assuming the bot actually does them properly. All the Best -- Chuck Talk 21:19, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
