License Review

Hello Minorax,

There are a few commons files that haven't been review (some for a handful of months now) and I'd like to use them on Wikipedia, but I can't until they're reviewed. Since I saw you've been reviewing some photos in bulk (I know there's a lot to get through) I was wondering if I could ask you to double check their license before I use them on Wikipedia? LIGO Poster is fully in clear

I'm sorry, but I don't understand your fair use issue. We uploaded the movie poster for our film, which is the subject of our entry. There are are no copyright issues. Hexagrams of the I Ching

Hi! I discovered an error in one of the images that you uploaded in this article:

Hexagram 26 has the wrong image, the first 2 lines are incorrectly switched/inverted:

Apparently you uploaded it in August 2019:

(As you can see, the previous 2 versions were correct).

Twitter images posted by their owner

Hello Minorax, You notified me about the possible copyright picture issue which I posted (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Chvrches_Love_is_Dead_US_Tour_2018.png). The picture was originally posted on Twitter by their owners (the music band itself: https://twitter.com/CHVRCHES/status/988417368962420736)

The Twitter TOS specifies that: "You retain your rights to any Content you submit, post or display on or through the Services. What’s yours is yours — you own your Content (and your incorporated audio, photos and videos are considered part of the Content). Why do you say that "kindly refrain from coming to me anymore"?

因為你什麼都沒有告訴我，然後你就說「you're not helping yourself and that's the problem」這話，我不知道你是要我幫我自己什麼，所以我在想，你指的problem應該就是在說：「Will a supervisor prefer a worker who does the same amount of work in 30 minutes or someone who takes a whole 30 days to finish the same thing?」這件事。如果是這樣，這話其實是你說的，只不過我看到你叫別人幫你傳達給我，但是你不能因此做為理由，就叫我不要再來找你，好像你意思在告訴我，我想對你說什麼話就要按照你的方式，由第三人轉達，我認為這樣的方式才是在浪費時間。

Why this file is in deletion requests?

I created this file to use it as a symbol for BJP on various wikipedia pages which requires the symbol of Indian political parties. I have released this file as my own work and under the same license in which various symbols of other Indian political parties are released like , , and there are many more. If it is fair for other political party symbols then why in my case it is requested for deletion?

@SamanyaGyan: Yes, it may be your own work but it's a derivative work of previously deleted files. Also, I don't go around digging for files to nominate for deletion. @Minorax: Okay, a query not related to deletion of the file: The lotus symbol which is the election symbol of the Indian political party Bharatiya Janata Party is in public domain and have no copyright by them as also mentioned in this DR here. Shiatsu.jpg quick delete notice

Hello @Minorax: I think there is a mistake regarding this. Can you please change the quick deletion notice to a normal one while this is reviewed? Movie poster Deletion

I want to know about, Why Korapaak film poster has been deleted? It's their official poster of this film and I don't think that this is any Fair use content. I personally work for this film, so I want to confirm that, This movie has legal, and it's not any non-free logos, covers, screenshots, or reproductions of other copyrighted works. LTAs and reverts

Hi. There is not a lot of value in undoing LTA work, especially this one, until it is known that they are blocked/locked. This LTA just wants to pick a fight, and loves a revert war, and then will move onto you. So it is my experience that they should be noted to be blocked locally or locked via stewards. They generally should be ignored, they are doing little damage and just trying to provoke a response, which you have just done. Re: Deletion request of Aptera images.

All the image files I uploaded came from the Aptera Motors Corp. official site, https://www.aptera.us. One was cropped by me, Fotoguru (talk).

Not finding explicit permission to publically share these files (although sharing links are provided for all these images on their site) I asked for and received permission to use these images on Wikipedia and asked under what license they should be shared. Aptera Motors' CEO, Chris Anthony, replied to my request on Feb. 10, 2020 as follows:

"As for the pictures, anything on the website or in this Dropbox folder is public domain: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/aiv84uz08axfrt3/AAAZxY09df3JBlUweFZzvroNa?dl=0 There is no need to get bugged down with licenses now. We want as many people as possible to see our images and don't care how people might use them. So use anything you think is worthy ;) Let me know if you need anything directly from me. 中文：请问下该图片能不能以fop的形式保留。我最开始判断是这个照片主体是石碑而不是文字，且照片上文字并非清晰所以可以考虑COM:DM，但想了下之前的某个dr存档似乎也有类似的讨论，结果似乎是删除。仔细想了下也无法下定论，所以来此请求您的协助。感激不尽。

English: May I ask if the picture can be retained in the form of fop. I initially judged that the subject of the photo was a stele instead of text, and the text on the photo was not clear, so COM: DM could be considered, but I thought that a previous dr archive seemed to have a similar discussion, and the result seemed to be deleted. I ca n’t make a conclusion after thinking about it, so I ’m here to ask for your help. Thank you very much.

Why did you feel like my file should be deleted

Hi You've nominated and deleted a few of my files i.e. Grand Pool Access Room.jpg May I know why? What documents do I need to upload with the file to be acceptable upload. Deletion requests

Hello!

I see that you have started a few deletion requests with the reason "has no permission". Instead of starting DRs, why don't you just tag the files with {{subst:Npd}} instead?Jonteemil (talk) 04:42, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

That is correct, you are making it easier for an admin to delete. The problem is though, that you don't give the user the opportunity to send permission to OTRS, which I find problematic. I suggest that you use {{subst:Npd}} in the future instead.Jonteemil (talk) 04:47, 18 March 2020 (UTC)

Deletion of File:Flag of italy.jpg

Your deletion of the File:Flag of italy.jpg file is myopic because the Windows operating system does not accept .svg files. Therefore, I can only use .jpg, .png, and .ico. In reverse, Linux does not display .ico files. If it's possible, kindly restore it.

@Ineuw: From what I see, those low res files are used extensively so it can't be deleted as a duplicate. Also, they were uploaded donkey years ago and it makes no sense to delete it as a duplicate of a newer file. SVG error correction

Hello Minorax, do you know a method to fix the SVG errors in this file? Perhaps you can tell me what I have to do or how I need to change the source code respectively. Can you take a look at File:Shoko_Nagata_001.jpg, please? What was your suspicion when you tagged this file? The uploader claims in the file description that they took the photograph. I don't see any indication that the claim is false. Note that, despite the similar file names, File:Shoko_Nagata_001.jpg and File:Shoko_Nagata_002.png can and seem to have different copyright situations. The latter page doesn't exactly say it's their own work (or at least includes a somewhat contradictory remark) in Japanese, so 'no permission' tagging is understandable there. The same doesn't seem to apply to File:Shoko_Nagata_001.jpg - it clearly says it's their own work and even specifies where they took the photograph. Question about Medicine

Hi Minorax. Since you're quite experienced with the translate extension, can you please have a look at Medicine and correct me if I've done something in error? The problem is that translation units don't update the main translation subpage. I tested two times on testwiki before publishing it here, and both times, it worked there with exact the same settings, but it doesn't seem to work here... Thanks! Looking at your contributions, it seems like you created the translation page directly instead of going through Special:Translate. It won't work as the creation of the page in the translation namespace is done automatically whenever you edit through Special:Translate, going the other way won't have the same outcome. Hmmm... not really, I used the translation page, but, for some reason, it just created the translation units. Then I tested on Free City of Danzig, and it worked properly. Interestingly, I had the same problem when I first granted the translation admin right to my account on testwiki, but that problem is gone now (I did nothing to fix it). At any rate, thanks a lot for fixing it; it works perfectly fine now (I tested with the Farsi translation). Ahmad^talk 13:40, 19 August 2020 (UTC)

Questions concerning some deletions

Dear Minorax, I’ve been notified that a whole group of pictures that I misnamed (using Erzurum instead of Gaziantep, a result of a careless batch-conversion) has been deleted as a final step in a process I only half understood. As I still am not quite certain what happened and as you obviously are in the know this message. Am I right in understanding that 1. (after someone suggested I’d do so) a rename-request has been executed so the pictures themselves live on under the right name? 2. the fact they had been renamed made you decide to delete the originals? 3. these originals, with the wrong name, are somehow kept in an archive, but out of sight to viewers? As for that, are they out of sight, or can people approach them? I have the impression that they can, but would need to file a request. I’m sorry for all the trouble I’ve caused, and it was a lesson that hopefully leads to less errors from my side so less of a bother for you and others in the system. @Dosseman: Hi, if you're talking about the bunch of DRs I closed earlier today, such as Commons:Deletion requests/File:Erzurum Nuri Mehmet Paşa Camii 0909.jpg. Dear Minorax, Wow, that’s fast. I indeed refer to that bunch. I have come across the option “redirect” but never created it. If I understand correctly the renamed files have a redirect attached, so clicking on the renamed file brings one to the correct picture? And you have accorded this situation, so the pictures, though not deleted, at least live on with the right name as an entry (though other entries to the wrong name exist). Error in SVG file

Hi, there's a problem with File:Château de Fontainebleau Logo.svg and I thank you for adding a banner to point it out. I don't know where the error came from and maybe I missed something. Since I added the third version, I'm trying to figure out where this came from, but to no avail. I have therefore just added a fourth version and it produces exactly the same inconsistency; however, the third version is now shown normally. Are you experienced enough in this field to be able to help out a bit, or perhaps could you point me to a user who is familiar with it? Thank you in advance. Question about file moving

Hi,

I have been using Criterion 4 to harmonize file name in such a way that the user can see what they mean, rather than using many small categories to make distinctions. e.g. File:Tomb of a Lady Talpur (Tombs of Talpur Mirs, Hyderabad).jpg rather than making a small category for a few images to help the user what the different images are. One uploader of some files objects to this. I will not rename his files therefore, and no one else has objected in the two thousand or so files I have renamed. I know the uploader's wishes should be respected, but is there some compromise? Or am I doing file renaming the wrong way? Thanks, Krok6kola (talk) 20:25, 29 September 2020 (UTC)

Would File:Grave of Mir Mohammad Khan Talpur in elaborate enclosure5 (PK Hyderabad asv2020-02 img10 Talpur Tombs) or some other compromise do? I am also trying to name files so files of the same subject will be next to each other in categories that are relatively small to avoid having many categories with one or a few files, for the benefit of the user.

Or for files of different elements of the tomb complex in the file example given above, should a separate category be made for the files of the "Grave of Mir Mohammad Khan Talpur" (that file), and separate cats for other elements of the tomb complex, such as for the graves of others, for the grave notable for its different style, for the different structure of "ladies' tomb" buildings, for the renovated examples vs. examples not renovated etc. is the way to go? Or should no attempt be made to help the user be aware of what the different files in the tomb complex portray?

Editors for files of important building in India clearly name their files without this worry.

Actually, this photographer is the only one who has objected, so maybe I can avoid renaming his, now that I am aware of his format. and they're all uploader by the same person/or come from the same source, such as flickr (just my POV of this) and taken within a short timeframe. Please give me some information.

I have read the articles about files being eligible to upload well. I have also understood that the copyright was verified with the files I am uploading and I have made sure that there is nothing against the terms and rules of commons. I understood that you previously deleted my uploads because the subject was not notable and I had created a gallery for it. However, I have not created a gallery and the new files I have uploaded have been made sure that they follow all the rules. You have been nominating my files for deletion reasoning that they must be deleted because they have previously been deleted.

Please respond to this request before you take any further action against me or my uploads. Thank You.

Hi! Even though Commons:Project scope/as might have contained no translation at this time, as far as I recall, it had some translation previously, before the introduction of the Translate extension. Are you sure it’s not worth kept? It may be useful if someone starts retranslating the page with the extension. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 00:17, 22 October 2020 (UTC)

I don’t know how to use the Translate extension as a (regular) admin, maybe Nikerabbit has an idea. (Copying is not really an option here, as the important part is the page history.) Incorrect Lint error fixes

Hi! Please don’t fix Lint errors just for the sake of getting rid of warnings. Deprecated HTML tags like <tt> and <center> are deprecated because they convey no semantic meaning. If you replace them with ones that do convey semantic meaning but the usage doesn’t match this meaning, it just makes things worse. <kbd> represents a span of inline text denoting textual user input. Esc probably conforms this meaning, but the quote from the preferences page is certainly not a user input. These are just warnings; <tt> is supported by all major browsers and will probably be supported forever (as there are tons of legacy websites that will never be updated), so there’s no need to hurry and go the easy way. —Tacsipacsi (talk) 21:49, 16 November 2020 (UTC)
