Wiki Loves Love help needed

Hello Dyolf77, You endorsed the Wiki Loves Love photo contest on Meta. This photo contest starts on 1 February. To be able to make the photo contest more accessible and available to more people in the world, it needs translations of the upload wizard, templates and pages to your local language. Please help us! Go to Commons:Wiki Loves Love 2019/Translations to see how needs to be translated. (In some languages there are maybe already some translations available.) Thanks in advance!! Hi Dyolf77, i checked the NOAA website privacy policy, where i found the image [1] and it explicitly stated

"4. To request permission to use (or locate high-resolution) images, videos, text, or other site information: Unless otherwise noted (copyrighted material for example), information presented on this website is considered public information and may be distributed freely. If you elect to use materials from this web offering, please cite NOAA as the source, and include the appropriate URL of the page(s) from which the materials were taken. If you reproduce text, please cite the original contributing author and their affiliation.

High-resolution images: In instances where high-resolution images are available, they can be downloaded from their associated large-image pages. The high-resolution version posted will be the largest version that we have available. If a high-resolution image is not included on the large-image page, most likely we do not have a high-resolution version of the image.

Copyright: Selected copyrighted images have been contributed to the site. These copyrights are printed on the image or mentioned in image captions. If you would like to reproduce these images, you must contact the contributing source for approval."

since there was no copyright printed on the image, and there was no mention of copyright on the image caption, I believe it still follows the same privacy policy that the image is still in the public domain and may be "distributed freely" as stated in the privacy policy above.

However, i did find a similar image already uploaded on wiki commons, so i can site this image in my wiki page [2] instead! so feel free to delete my file upload! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sademari (talk • contribs) 16:15, 26 February 2018 (UTC)

Structured Data - file captions coming this week (January 2019)

Hi all, following up on last month's announcement...

Multilingual file captions will be released this week, on either Wednesday, 9 November or Thursday, 10 November 2019. Captions are a feature to add short, translatable descriptions to files. Here's some links you might want to look follow before the release, if you haven't already:

  1. Read over the help page for using captions - I wrote the page on mediawiki.org because captions are available for any MediaWiki user, feel free to host/modify a copy of the page here on Commons.
  2. Test out using captions on Beta Commons.
  3. Leave feedback about the test on the captions test talk page, if you have anything you'd like to say prior to release.

Additionally, there will be an IRC office hour on Thursday, 10 January with the Structured Data team to talk about file captions, as well as anything else the community may be interested in. Date/time conversion, as well as a link to join, are on Meta.

Thanks for your time, I look forward to seeing those who can make it to the IRC office hour on Thursday. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:22, 7 January 2019 (UTC)

The Wikimedia Commons (this website) only hosts media files with a realistic educational purpose and that can be used for any purpose, including:
  • use in any work, regardless of content
  • creation of derivative works
  • commercial use
  • free distribution

See Commons:Licensing for the copyright policy on Wikimedia Commons, and Commons:Image casebook for some specific examples. Some other Wikimedia projects have different licensing policies. For example, the English Wikipedia allows fair use of sounds and photographs. This is not the case on Wikimedia Commons; "fair use" materials are not acceptable here.

Please make sure that you only upload educational content you have created yourself, those which are out of copyright, or those for which you have the required permission for the work to be used in all the ways described above. Please note that derivative works of copyrighted material are also considered copyrighted. Categorization

Hi there. Thanks for this edit. Some users insist on wrong categorization even though you correct them and try to teach them through edit summaries. If I insist in correcting mistakes of these users (like the one you just corrected, please see our edition interactions over categorization of certain food items) I will fall into the trap of a ridiculous "edit fight". Therefore when I'm bored of dealing with the same issues again and again, sorry, I just give up. Cheers. --E4024 (talk) 13:09, 25 February 2019 (UTC)

Structured Data - development update, March 2019

This text is also posted on the Structured Data hub talk page. You can reply there with questions, comments, or concerns.

A development update for the current work by the Structured Data on Commons team:

After the release of multilingual file captions, work began on getting depicts and other statements ready for release. These were originally scheduled for release in February and into March, however there are currently two major blockers to finishing this work (T215642, T217157). We will know more next week about when depicts and statements can likely be ready for testing and then release; until then I've tentatively updated the release schedule.

Once the depicts feature is ready for testing, it will take place in two stages on TestCommons. The first is checking the very basics; is the design comfortable, how does the simple workflow of adding/editing/removing statements work, and building up help and process pages from there. The second part is a more detailed test of depicts and other statements, checking the edge-case examples of using the features, bugs that did not come up during simple testing, etc. Additionally we'll be looking with the community for bugs in interaction with bots, gadgets, and other scripts once the features are live on Commons. Please let me know if you're interesting in helping test and fix these bugs if they show up upon release, it is really hard to find them in a test environment or, in some cases, bugs won't show up in a testing environment at all.

One new thing is definitely coming within the next few weeks, pending testing: the ability to search for captions. This is done using the inlabel keyword in search strings, and will be the first step in helping users find content that is specifically structured data. I'll post a notice when that feature is live and ready for use.

Thanks, let me know if you have questions about these plans. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:34, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

Structured Data - early depicts testing

The Structured Data on Commons development team has the very basic version of depicts statements available for early testing on Test-Commons. You can add very basic depicts statements to the file page by going into the new “Structured Data” tab located below the "Open in Media Viewer button." You can use the Latest Files link in the left side nav bar to select existing images, or use the UploadWizard to upload new ones to test with (although those images won’t actually show up on the site). The test site is not a fully functional replica of Commons, so there may be some overall problems in using the site, but you should be able to get a general idea of what using the feature is like.

Early next week I will call for broad, community-wide testing of the feature similar to what we did for Captions, with instructions for testing, known bugs, and a dedicated space to discuss the feature as well as a simple help page for using statements. Until then, you're welcome to post on the SDC talk page with what you might find while testing depicts.

Thanks in advance for trying it out, you'll be hearing more from me next week. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:59, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

Structured Data - testing qualifiers for depicts

As you might have seen, testing is underway for adding qualifiers to depicts statements. If you have not left feedback already, the Structured Data on Commons development team is very interested in hearing about your experience using qualifiers on the file page and in the UploadWizard. To get started you can visit Test-Commons and chose a random file to test out, or upload your own file to try out the UploadWizard. Questions, comments, and concerns can be left on the Structured data talk page and the team will address them as best as they can. Thank you for your time. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 19:08, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

Could you please explain...

I cropped an image of Denyse Tontz recently. here The image I cropped had what appeared to be a valid OTRS permission received tag. I think an OTRS tag should over-ride any precautionary principle respect we have for getty images.

Those wire services routinely vacuum up public domain images, all kinds of images, and add them to their image libraries. Presumably their customers don't care that they are being made to pay for a public domain image, or freely distributable image, because they are paying for the convenience of being able to look up images from a single extensive catalog.

Since I uploaded the cropped image, and you deleted it, someone has deleted the OTRS tagged image I cropped it from.

Was that you?

Did you see it was OTRS tagged?

If so what explanation can you offer for ignoring that OTRS tagging?

If you didn't notice the OTRS tag I strongly encourage you to restore both images, and be more careful in future.

I am going to draw your deletion to the attention of the OTRS team. Geo Swan (talk) 13:30, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

Structured Data on Commons - IRC office hours this week, 18 July

The Structured Data team is hosting an IRC office hour this week on Thursday, 18 July, from 17:00-18:00 UTC. Joining information as well as date and time conversion is available on Meta. Potential topics for discussion are the testing of "other statements", properties that may need to be created for Commons on Wikidata soon, plans for the rest of SDC development, or whatever you might want to discuss. The development team looks forward to seeing you there. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 18:51, 16 July 2019 (UTC)

Structured Data - testing other statements

You can now test using other statements for structured data on the file page on Test-Commons. Some datatypes are not yet available, such a coordinates, but further support will be extended soon. You can find more information about testing on the SDC talk page. The team looks forward to your feedback. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 16:41, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

File:Ікона св Петра Калнишевського.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Structured Data - computer-aided tagging

The development team is starting work on one of the last planned features for SDC v1.0, a lightweight tool to suggest depicts tags for images. I've published a project page for it, please have a look. I plan to share this page with everyone on Commons much more broadly in the coming days. The tool has been carefully designed to try to not increase any workload on Commons volunteers; for starters, it will be opt-in for auto-confirmed users only and will not generate any sort of backlog here on Commons. Additionally, the tool is highly privacy-minded for the contributors and publicly-minded for the third party being used, in this case Google. The implementation and usage notes contain more information about these and other potential concerns as a starting place. It's really important that the tool is implemented properly from the start, so feedback is welcome. Questions, comments, concerns are welcome on the talk page and I will get answers as quickly as possible as things come up. On the talk page you can also sign up to make sure you're a part of the feedback for designs and prototype testing. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 17:57, 17 September 2019 (UTC)

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at Wikimedia Commons.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Handwritten letter of Kais Saied

Hello, this is Ian (previously User:sambasoccer27) from the discussion about File:Cuscus.jpg.

I was wondering if you knew about the copyright status of the handwritten letter of President Kais Saied in Maghrebi script. In the US, government documents are typically considered public domain. Is this also the case in Tunisia? It would be a valuable image to have on Commons if so.

Thanks in advance for your help. إيان (talk) 22:21, 2 January 2020 (UTC)

File:Abd Al Rahman I.png

Two years ago you moved the file File:Abd Al Rahman III.png to File:Abd Al Rahman I.png calling it an obvious error. On what basis did you reach this conclusion? The description itself refers to Abderrahman III, and both Getty Images and Alamy have versions of this engraving, both naming the caliph in question as Abd ar Rahman III. Further, this seems to be the image that served as the inspiration for one of the Spanish postage stamps featuring Abd al-Rahman III. Yes, the image is used a lot online, including on his Wikipedia page, as Abd al-Rahman I but is is far from clear to me that this is the case and that Getty, Alamy, and the file's own description is wrong. Please take a look at the meeting page and add your name to the list of participants if you’re planning to attend.

Hope to see you in a week! All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 16:45, 23 May 2020 (UTC)

Greetings,

The Structured Data team is working on an alternative, image-focused prototype for media search on Commons. The prototype uses categories, structured data as well as wikitext from Commons, and Wikidata to find its results. The development team would like your feedback on the prototype, as they are looking to work to further enhance the search experience on Commons. If you have a moment, please look over the project page set up on Commons to find a link to the prototype and leave your feedback on the talk page. Thanks for your time, I'll be posting message similar to this one to other pages on Commons. The team is looking forward to reading what you think. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:47, 28 May 2020 (UTC)

File:Education Freedom Day, Tunisia 2015DSC 8951.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Olfa Terras

Salut Habib,

— D Y O L F 77[Talk] 21:15, 7 June 2020 (UTC)

Hi, I uploaded this file, I'm friends with Usama for quite a few years, and he asked the photographer to send the email to OTRS. Is there anything else I need to do from my side? I have contacted the OTRS user who added the template and he's not responded to me, despite responding to other users who wrote him afterwards. Thanks! --Maor X (talk) 06:02, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

Commons Photographers User Group: Meeting on September 26 and other stuff

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I've got a quick update for you, containing three items:

  • I’d like to invite you to our group’s second Virtual Meeting on Saturday, September 26, 2020. As last time, this meeting will serve as an opportunity to get to know each other better, share learnings, and connect in times of the global COVID-19 pandemic. If you'd like to present, please add your name and the proposed topic to the list on the talk page.
  • Also, I'd like to start a conversation about how we should be sharing responsibility for the user group going forward. I'd love to get some help when it comes to organizing things and I'm convinced that we can achieve more if a couple of people helped with coordinating stuff.
  • Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has asked me to spread the word about their latest survey: Universal Code of Conduct Survey. The goal is to create a safer environment on Wikimedia projects and the Foundation gathers feedback prior to coming up with a first draft.

Hope to see you at the Zoom meeting in September!

All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 18:48, 15 August 2020 (UTC)

Reminder: User Group Meeting this Saturday

Dear Commons Photographers User Group member,

This is a quick reminder that our second virtual meeting will take place this Saturday, September 26. The agenda entails presentations about drone photography, about the story behind a featured picture, and about the future of LRMediaWiki. We'll also discuss photographers’ contacts with the Wikimedia Foundation and the election of representatives for our user group. You'll find information about all of this on the event page:

I'm also inviting you to share some information about yourself and your photography work with other members of the user group on our new membership list:

I hope you're well during these difficult times. All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 15:53, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Commons - Media Sarch, new feedback round

Greetings,

I'm following up on a message from earlier in the year about the prototype development for Special:MediaSearch. Based on community feedback, the Structured Data team has developed some new features for Special:MediaSearch and are seeking another round of comments and discussions about the tool. Commons:Structured_data/Media_search is updated with details about the new features plus some other development information, and feedback is welcome on Commons talk:Structured_data/Media_search. Media Search works in any language, so the team would especially appreciate input around support for languages other than English. I look forward to reading about what you think. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:05, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

Hi. Would you mind reviewing this graphic. It appears to be out of scope, but I would prefer a more authoritative opinion. Thanks.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:53, 30 September 2020 (UTC)

Study shows Wiki Love Africa recruitment makes a difference

Hello Dyolf77

We are writing because you have participated in the Wiki Loves Africa (WLA) photo competition in the past. Results have been published and winning pictures may be seen here !

This year WLA partnered with the research organization CAT Lab (previously CivilServant) to help us evaluate the effectiveness of one of our recruitment efforts. You may or may not have received a message on your user talk page encouraging you to participate again in this year's competition.

We are excited to share with you their study found our recruitment message was a success and may have resulted in as many as 2,000 additional contributed photos. We hope you agree this is great news for Africa and its representation across Wikimedia. You can read more about the study and the results in this blog post.

If you have any questions about the study, we encourage you to ask CAT Lab's research manager Juliakamin(cs).

Please participate in the Universal Code of Conduct consultation on Wikimedia Commons!

Dear Dyolf77

Thank you for your hard work to create the sum of all knowledge that is freely sharable to every single human being across the world. As our diverse community grows, we need a guideline that will help all of our work collectively and constructively where everyone feels safe, welcomed, and part of a team. That is why the Wikimedia movement is working on establishing a global guideline called the Universal Code of Conduct, often referred to as UCoC.

After the months-long policy consultation, we have prepared a policy (available in many languages) that has been ratified by the Board of Trustees. We’re currently in the second phase of the process. During this round of consultation, we want to discuss the implementation of this policy. As a member of the functionary team of Wikimedia Commons, your opinion on enforcement is of great value. We want to hear from you on how this policy can be enforced on the Wikimedia Commons community and what might be needed to do so. There are a few enforcement questions so you can easily outline your answers based on them. Please do not hesitate to bring any more questions/challenges you think are not yet discussed.

The discussion is taking place on Commons:Universal Code of Conduct consultation. You can also share your thoughts by replying to this message (Please ping me so I get notified), posting your message on my talk page. I am aware that some thoughts cannot be expressed publicly, so you can always share your opinion by emailing me as well.

As a valued member of the Commons community, please share your thoughts, ideas, and experiences that relate to UCoC. Let us know what needs to be improved so we can build a more friendly and cooperative space to increase editor engagement and retention of new users.

Wikimedia projects are governed by you. So, it is you who needs to step up to ensure a safe, comfortable, and pleasant working environment.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you! Wikitanvir (WMF) (talk) 10:18, 5 February 2021 (UTC)

Merci Mourad. — D Y O L F 77[Talk] 10:34, 6 February 2021 (UTC)

Please take a short survey regarding UCoC

Hello Dyolf77,

I would like to inform you that we now have a survey in place to take part in the UCoC consultation. It is not a long one and should take less than 10 minutes to complete. You can take the survey even if you have already participated in the on-wiki consultation. It has a different set of questions and allows you to participate anonymously and privately.

As a member of the Commons functionaries, your opinion is especially essential. Please click here to participate in the survey.

You are still welcome to participate in the on-wiki discussions. If you prefer you can have your say by sending me an email. You can also drop me an email if you want to have a one-to-one chat.

Thank you for your participation! Wikitanvir (WMF) 13:53, 12 February 2021 (UTC)

Next Commons Photographers meeting featuring large format photographer Ben Horne

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I'm happy to invite you to our next virtual meeting on Saturday, March 20, at the usual time. As I mentioned during our last get-together, I'd like to invite external guests every now and then, given that it seems good to expand our view and learn something from someone outside our community.

Our first external guest, Ben Horne, will talk about large format wilderness photography, followed by a question-and-answer session. Ben is maybe one of best known contemporary large format photographers in the United States. On his excursions to national parks, he shoots 8×10 film and talks about his adventures on his YouTube channel which has attracted more than 48,000 followers so far. He is YouTube's first, and longest active landscape photography vlogger and I'm thrilled that he has agreed to join our next meeting and talk about his experiences.

If you're interested in joining this meeting, please sign up on the page below:

Also, don't forget to post your question(s) prior to the meeting on the following page in order to ensure a good and fruitful question-and-answer session:

I'm very much looking forward to this event and I hope you'll be able to join.

Hello Dyolf77, I uploaded this file and have the proper copyrights for it, and would like the file to be undeleted. The image is of a painting that I made. The photo from which the painting is based on was taken by an individual that sold me the rights to reproduce the image in this specific format. I can provide evidence of this transaction and agreement. What proof of copyright do you need from me and how should I share that with you. Thanks.--PostDocumentation (talk) 16:34, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Dear @PostDocumentation, please proceed by a OTRS ticket to send permission to Wikimedia. A volounteer will validate the permission and then the file will be restored. Thanks -- — D Y O L F 77[Talk] 10:27, 13 April 2021 (UTC)

Report

Hello, please take a look at this report: Commons:Administrators' noticeboard#Files named with meaningless/disruptive names (motivated renaming was reverted without any valid reason) as these are serious everyday violations of the Commons rules and protection of meaningless names (in this case, Kalumny which translates as Columns). User Kazimier Lachnovič with filemover rights constantly performs violations of the Commons rules, creates instability issues and protects meaningless names, thus creates confusion. His Commons admin rights previously were lifted, but it is clear that it is not enough. -- Pofka (talk) 17:09, 26 May 2021 (UTC)

thank you for your reply
what about this
thank you --Ismail2212 (talk) 13:38, 1 June 2021 (UTC)
Hello @Ismail2212, if it was taken by you (you used your camera) it is ok to upload it. But if not, means you are not the photographer, the picture will be deleted.
To make it easy to understand, if the picture is your work, you can upload it, if not (for example, found elsewhere on the internet) don't upload it. Thanks — D Y O L F 77[Talk] 13:48, 1 June 2021 (UTC)

File:Elph in Dead Sea (cropped).jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

How we will see unregistered users

Hi!

You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

If you have not seen it before, you can read more on Meta. If you want to make sure you don’t miss technical changes on the Wikimedia wikis, you can subscribe to the weekly technical newsletter.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. You can let us know on the talk page. You can write in your language. The suggestions were posted in October and we will decide after 17 January.

Thank you. /Johan (WMF)

Your most memorable shot of 2021

Happy New Year! As always at the beginning of the new year, I'm inviting you to share your most memorable shot of the past year. Which of your photos stood out in 2021? Which image created special memories that you'd like to share with others? On behalf of the Commons Photographers User Group I wish you, your family, and your friends all the best for 2022. Tickets OTRS

Salut Habib,

Moumou82 (talk) 21:27, 24 April 2022 (UTC)

Save the date: Commons Photographers meeting next week

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

Please save the date: on Saturday, June 19th, our next virtual Zoom meeting is going to take place. As you know, one goal of these meetings is to share knowledge about different types of photography. This time, we've lined up the following presentations:

  • Photography in Nigeria
  • Photographing vehicles
  • I started printing my images – here’s what I've learned so far…

If you'd like to participate in this event, please consider signing up on this page. Also, if you'd like to present at one of the next meetings, please send me a quick note. Sharing your experiences and learnings with others can make a huge difference!

I wish you, your family, and your friends all the best! Hope to see you on the 19th.

Warmly, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 03:13, 8 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello,

I am messaging you because a contest for a sound logo for Wikimedia is being developed and your opinion as a Wikimedia Commons admin is appreciated. My team would like to know if it is possible for the top finalist sound logos in the contest to have attribution temporarily hidden from public view until all the votes are final? The idea is to let the public judge the sound logo contestants based on the merit of the logo, not the person or people who made it. Again, any feedback is appreciated.

Thank you,

This Sunday!

You're invited to provide input…

Dear fellow member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

At our last meeting end of August, we talked about getting in touch with the Wikimedia Foundation and offering our help for improving Wikimedia Commons. Today, I invite you to provide your input on a draft open letter to the Foundation. Over the course of the next ten days, we'll further improve the text together, before inviting people to sign it. Question from the CPUG Board

Dear user group member,

I'm writing you to today on behalf of the board of the Commons Photographers User Group. The past year has been a busy one for us. In 2022, we've had more activities than ever before in the history of our group and you'll find an overview on our group's page.

With that being said, 2022 was also a year of learning for the current board members. Most of us hadn't been involved in running the Photographers User Group and we spent quite some time on getting used to our new roles. We all feel it was a steep learning curve.

That's why, at our last board meeting, we decided to ask our members whether they'd be ok with us serving for another year. Extending our board duties to the end of 2023 would allow us to continue the work we've started this year, and to benefit from the knowledge we've built over the past twelve months.

However, in the end, it's up to you and the other members of our group to decide whether such an extension of our board term should be granted. I invite you to voice your opinion on this page:

Commons:Commons Photographers User Group/Board Elections 2022

We'll gather feedback until December 27, and we'll keep you in the loop about the outcomes of this process.

Thanks so much for your ongoing support of our group. I wish you, your family, and your friends all the best.

Most memorable shot 2022 / Wikimania 2023

Dear member of the Commons Photographers User Group,

I wish you a Happy New Year! As it has been our tradition at the beginning of the new year for a while, we're sharing our most memorable shots of the past year with each other. I invite you to share a picture that is particular meaningful to you and to describe why that's the case. Also, as Wikimania 2023 will be here before we know it (August 16 to 19), please consider adding your thoughts on our planning page, where we gather ideas for how we can make Commons photography more visible than in the years before.

2022 Picture of the Year: Saint John Church of Sohrol in Iran.

Read this message in your language

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Flickypedia soft launch and a huge thank you

Dear fellow Commons photographer,

I hope this message finds you well. As you might already know, the Flickr Foundation has been busy creating a new Flickr-to-Commons bridge (“Flickypedia”) this year. After a successful demo at the GLAM Wiki Conference in Montevideo, the Flickr Foundation team is now inviting all members of the Commons Photographers User Group to be the first to review their alpha, reporting any technical issues or other feedback via the Flickypedia project talk page.

At the same time, this message is an opportunity for me to thank you for your trust and support over the past couple of years. Since 2017, we've grown into being one of the largest user groups in the Wikimedia universe. I've tremendously enjoyed interacting with all of our members when it came to joint photowalks at Wikimanias, virtual Zoom meetings where we covered a wide variety of photography topics, as well as our annual “Most memorable shot of the year”, among many other events. As I'm not running for an official position in our current board election, this will be my last message on behalf of the user group to you. Thanks for all the happy moments we shared together over the years! I hope you'll continue creating free images for the millions of people we serve through Wikipedia and Commons.

All the best, --Frank Schulenburg (talk) 19:36, 9 December 2023 (UTC)

Mettre à jour la version arabe d'un modèle

Bonjour.

Pourriez-vous mettre à jour la version arabe de Template talk:PD-US en apportant les changement effectués récemment sur la version anglaise ? Ces changements changent radicalement les conditions du modèle.

Merci d'avance. Veverve (talk) 07:26, 18 January 2024 (UTC)

Je me permets un rappel. Veverve (talk) 19:47, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
