Archiving bot not working
Hi, does anyone know why months-old discussions at Commons:De Kroeg are not archived anymore? The last time was done by ArchiverBot on 7 October 2018. --HyperGaruda (talk) 21:38, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
- @HyperGaruda: Hopefully, this edit will fix it by letting the bot ignore what appears to be a request for speedy deletion. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 04:54, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Jeff G.: Thanks for trying, but it did not seem to have an effect. I just found out that ArchiverBot generates a log file for its archiving activities and it gives an error saying among others
editpage: abusefilter-warning / Hit AbuseFilter: Adding OTRS permission by non-OTRS member
. While the page's revision history showed no such filter being triggered, a link to an OTRS ticket was added by an OTRS member to a post written by a non-OTRS member. I removed the link, so let's see in about 2½ hours if it worked. --HyperGaruda (talk) 05:34, 23 March 2019 (UTC)- And it is working again. --HyperGaruda (talk) 08:15, 23 March 2019 (UTC)

"List" tab of Watchlist on mobile view
I realized that, on mobile view, the "List" tab of Special:Watchlist can list only pages on the main namespace (or "Gallery", according to Help:Namespaces). My "List" tab is totally blank on mobile view; it doesn't list files or pages on "Commons" namespace. How is the mobile Watchlist very different from the desktop Watchlist? Recent changes
- Pages can use geocoordinates from Wikidata with the
mw.wikibase.entity:formatStatements
Lua function or the#statements
parser function. If they do, they will now be shown using a Kartographer<maplink>
if the wiki can use Kartographer. You can report bugs or ask questions on Phabricator. - There is now an EventStream to see when links are added or removed on Wikimedia wikis. You can read the discussions and plans.
Problems
- Some wikis will not be able to edit for a short period of time on 19 March (UTC). This will start at 15:00 UTC. It will last up to 15 minutes but probably shorter. You can see the list of affected wikis. This is because of network maintenance. You can still read the wikis.
- Editors who use Firefox to edit with the visual editor had a problem with copying text. When they tried to select text that included footnotes, templates or block images in the middle they would often only get part of the text. This has now been fixed. [3]
- Some maps didn't work for a while on 8 March. This has been fixed. [4][5]

When uploading using the Video2Commons tool I seem to get a warning that uploads can't be aborted due to technical limitations but an "Abort" button still appears. How can I notify any of this tool's maintainers about this apparent contradiction? --Donald Trung 『徵國單』 (No Fake News 💬) (WikiProject Numismatics 💴) (Articles 📚) 21:47, 2 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Donald Trung: > How can I notify any of this tool's maintainer
- In the order of preference:
- However, I will probably be extremely busy till mid May.
- Regarding this specific issue, the cost of having the button hidden far outweighs the benefit, IMO. The note just tells you it won't work, and just because it is shown doesn't mean it will work. I would very much prefer if it can be aborted during upload though. The technical limitation is with how celery task abortion works. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 06:50, 12 March 2019 (UTC)

User talk archiving
I'm trying to set up archiving at User talk:Marchjuly. I think I've gotten the page to archive correctly, but I cannot figure how to get {{Archive box}} to work correctly. Can the archive box be set up to automatically list archives by month or do links to the archived pages need to be added manually? If I'm doing something wrong, please let me know and also please suggest a possible fix. -- Marchjuly (talk) 02:45, 18 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Marchjuly: {{Archive box}} is only so smart. If you want to keep archiving to pages of the form "User talk:Marchjuly/%(year)d/%(monthname)s", you will need to start using syntax "{{archive box|[[User talk:Marchjuly/2013/December|2013/December]]}}" with appropriate formatting or "{{archive box|{{Special:Prefixindex/{{TALKPAGENAME}}/}}}}", or copy my solutions from User talk:Jeff G.#Welcome to my user talk page! and User:Jeff G.#Talk subpages. If not, you could go with just numbered archives and leave the archive box alone. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 03:09, 18 March 2019 (UTC)

parameter. Is there also any way customize to have the links to the archive pages so that they are not displayed vertially be perhaps horizontally by year? for example, one line for each year with the links to the individual pages for that year listed also in the same line. -- Marchjuly (talk) 04:37, 18 March 2019 (UTC)- @Marchjuly: No and yes. Do you have any idea why this might've happened? - When you use rollback you will be able to get a confirmation prompt on most wikis. It asks you if you wanted to do the rollback. This is to avoid misclicks. You will have to opt in to get it. On German Wikipedia it will be an opt-out feature from 28 March. [6][7]
- The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 19 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 20 March. It will be on all wikis from 21 March (calendar).
Meetings
- You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on 20 March at 16:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- Admins will be able to block someone from editing a page or a namespace. This already works on a few Wikimedia wikis. You can read more. If your wiki wants to be an early tester of this, you can tell the developers. [8]
- Toolforge will shut down the Ubuntu Trusty job grid. This will happen the week of 25 March. Tools that use this grid needs to be moved to the new Debian Stretch job grid. If they haven't, they will be taken offline. Maintainers can restart the tools later. Users may not be able to use them in the meanwhile. You can see a list of affected tools.

Important Edit
Hello. Please respond to this request ديفيد عادل وهبة خليل 2 (talk) 12:59, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
Pages visited via diff remain bolded
Normally, on my watchlist, "Changes to pages [I] haven't visited since the changes occurred are in bold, with solid markers." Today, however, visiting the latest revision of a page via diff doesn't seem to cause the name of that page to be unbolded or have an empty marker; I have to visit the page proper to make that happen. Is anyone else experiencing this behavior? — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 02:51, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
- Same for me. Pressing diff does not unbold the entry Ronhjones (Talk) 02:58, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
- This seems less of a problem now, but still a problem. Sometimes, clicking the "history" tab or purging the page will hasten the unbolding. I suspect a problem with the job queue. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 22:53, 17 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Ronhjones: I found out in the past couple of days that when I unwatch and then watch a stubborn bolded page, that resolves the symptom for the current revision of that page better (with a higher success rate indistinguishable from 100%) than refreshing and purging. Of course, that is just a workaround and it doesn't scale. — Jeff G. ツ please ping or talk to me 16:29, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

- The new version of the content translation tool will be used for all new translations. The older version will still be used for translations that were started with it. Most users won’t see any change. More than 80% of the published translations are already using the new version. [9]
Problems
- There was a problem with editing with Safari on iOS. When you wrote an edit summary you couldn't save the edit. This has now been fixed. [10]
- The editing toolbar sometimes disappears when you scroll on iOS devices. This will be fixed soon. [11]
- Wikis can over-ride interface messages on-wiki. A problem meant that sometimes an old versions of any changed messages were shown instead. This included the sitenotice and other important parts of the interface. This was fixed at around 2019-03-22 16:00 (UTC). Logged-out users may still get the wrong message. Purging the page should fix it for them. [12]

Unknown error (Special:UploadWizard)
Hello! The file is loaded successfully, but after loading (Special:UploadWizard) it writes such an error. What is this mistake (Key not found in temporary storage)?? — Niklitov (talk) 13:41, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
Missing file
For File:Ja-将軍.oga, the transcode fails. This seems to be because the original file itself doesn't exist anymore. It can't be that the file was originally bad, since it's been uploaded since 2007 and used in a bunch of places. Is this somehow related to the move to MP3? In the past I've noticed some missing revisions on some images, but never the main file itself. Opencooper (talk) 01:22, 29 March 2019 (UTC)
Error message
Hello. For a couple of days, an error message appears in a red box on the right every time I access a page of Commons. The error message disappears after a couple of seconds. It starts with "ReferenceError: conf is not defined". I have not changed anything in my preferences, so I cannot find the cause of it. I do not have any problem on other Wikimedia websites. Do you know how to solve this problem? Thank you for your help. BrightRaven (talk) 12:55, 29 March 2019 (UTC)

UploadWizard and date
- Hello there is something wrong with UploadWizard, until now UploadWizard added the date and hour based from the EXIFs, but with the files I have uploaded today it added the date and hour of the upload here, that I fixed manually afterward. Christian Ferrer (talk) 16:12, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- Recently I’ve noticed a few new files in categories I watch that might well have been affected by this issue: date in info section matching the upload timestamp but with an earlier date in the EXIF. (I haven’t used the Wizard myself recently.)—Odysseus1479 (talk) 22:51, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

CatScan and Petscan
In the Gadgets panel of my Preferences the “updated Catscan tool” link for CatScan V3.0 goes to a 503 error page. I guess the tool has been superseded, because I get a menu item called “PetScan” when I activate the Gadget (and it works fine). Where does one go to get the description & links updated? Is there a help page for PetScan?
Also, I notice I still have a “CatScan” menu item, whether or not the Gadget is on, that goes to exactly the same place AFAICT. But unlike the “PetScan” item it doesn’t pre-fill the form correctly: it starts from commons.wikipedia and, when coming from a Category page, adds an extra “Category:” prefix to the name. Assuming that were fixed, would there be any need for the Gadget? Or is CatScan going to be resurrected, the PetScan redirection being temporary?—Odysseus1479 (talk) 05:32, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- There's a PetScan manual at meta:PetScan. Petscan is a rewrite of CatScan (see http://magnusmanske.de/wordpress/?p=385), I assume CatScan isn't coming back. --ghouston (talk) 08:16, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- The description of the gadget can be fixed by editing MediaWiki:Gadget-CatScan2-link. Please feel free to make an edit request at its talk page. I have that page in my watchlist and will fulfil edit requests. 4nn1l2 (talk) 09:08, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Odysseus1479: I fixed the description of the PetScan tool in the Gadgets panel of Preferences: Special:Diff/347467189.
- The ever-present and malfunctioning CatScan menu item comes from the "ExtraTabs2" tool in your Preferences. I made a request to remove CatScan from Help:Gadget-ExtraTabs2 (Special:Diff/347467851) to solve the problem of redundancy. 4nn1l2 (talk) 13:33, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks for following up both issues, @4nn1l2; apologies for not responding sooner.—Odysseus1479 (talk) 20:27, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
