1080p versions of old films

[edit]

Hi, I don't know if you follow that page, so FYI: Commons:Graphic Lab/Video and sound workshop#Import 1080p versions. Thanks, Yann (talk) 11:25, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Yann: All submitted with first links, I hope for the best.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 22:28, 30 June 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure what you mean, but there is no point submitting them to V2C, except overloading the system. I already tried that, and they failed. Yann (talk) 10:43, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann: Well, I tried before you wrote that. Three were sent signal 15 (SIGTERM) and the other three got "Error: NoUsernameError: Failed OAuth authentication for commons:commons: The authorization headers in your request are not valid: Invalid consumer", but should not have.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:56, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
As I said on Commons:Graphic Lab/Video and sound workshop#Import 1080p versions, these videos are too big to be processed by V2C. Don-vip made some changes recently and restarted the system. So all previous processes have to be restarted. Please see the details on phab:T365154. Yann (talk) 13:07, 1 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann Thanks, but see phab:T369298.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 14:36, 4 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann I managed to get https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MWRrniYAQDc uploaded to File:Anna Boleyn (1920, 1080p) by Ernst Lubitsch.webm for you, please attend to the licensing. Note that it turned out to be 720 pixels high, so a rename may be in order. I am limiting myself to two concurrent V2C uploads or one concurrent step.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 01:42, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed, but I already uploaded a 720p version. Yann (talk) 09:00, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann Sorry, I used the first external link at the file description page File:Anna Boleyn (1920) by Ernst Lubitsch, 720p.webm for that file at Commons:Graphic Lab/Video and sound workshop#Import 1080p versions. Which has 1080p?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:17, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Here. Yann (talk) 12:23, 5 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Yann: Thanks. Do you have a non-torrent, non-YouTube source for Storm Over Asia?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 03:05, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
IA? Probably the same 2.2 GB. Yann (talk) 07:04, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
To do this limiting, I am waiting until a download is complete before initiating another task; perhaps I should wait until pass 1 is complete instead, as pass 2 seems to be taking longer than anything else? I sure wish we had a percentage shown for pass 1 rather than the barber pole.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 08:10, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Given the recent failures, I am now taking a new approach: removing pass 2 and uploading from the concurrency calculation (that is, uploading after pass 1 is complete on all current tasks)   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:47, 21 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jeff, I noticed some of your uploads of silent films have a copyrighted soundtrack, a copyrighted intro and additional end credits. All need to be removed. I do it myself whenever possible but the higher resolution transcode is not available for those. Thanks, — Racconish💬 13:42, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Yann: You did the research on these. @Racconish: I would be happy to reupload any of these from Category:Videos transferred by User:Jeff G. and children which you identify without sound, but sadly V2C still refuses to overwrite, so I would theoretically have to add "silent" within the parentheses in the filenames.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 15:35, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, a new sound track was added to most old silent films, which should be removed when uploading. Yann (talk) 19:09, 8 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Racconish and Yann: I'm sorry. I have been trying to upload silent versions, but sadly each time I try I run into either "Sorry, but files larger than 4GB can not be uploaded even with server-side uploading. This task may need manual intervention" or "Exitcode: 153". I hope fixes for those can be implemented, or someone else can come along with a better machine and process each file locally. I encourage overwriting them with silent versions, but sadly V2C won't allow that, either. Except one: V2C finally succeeded in allowing me to upload https://archive.org/details/maciste-in-hell-1925-by-guido-brignone to File:Maciste in Hell (1925, 1080p, silent) by Guido Brignone.webm for you, please attend to the licensing. I tagged File:Maciste in Hell (1925, 1080p) by Guido Brignone.webm G7.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:50, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
... and the non-silent version is now gone.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 08:11, 13 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Another Exitcode which needs explanation is 137.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 04:17, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Is this a photograph you looking for as exploitative, it fails Commons:Child protection. Unsyndicated Truth (talk) 23:30, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Unsyndicated Truth: It was kept four times at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Kids skinny dipping in India.jpg, and indefinitely protected for "Excessive vandalism: 5 times unfairly nominated for deletion".   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 12:42, 12 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong message on my talk page

[edit]

Hello,

You've accused me on my talk page of repeatedly violating copyright and threatened to block me without any justification.  None of my uploads in recent months violate copyright (they are my own photos).

I hope this is a simple recipient error.

Please delete your message as soon as possible.

Yours faithfully TCY (talk) 09:51, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@TCY: In this calendar year: For File:Rue de Cimiez.jpg: you could have used {{G7}}. For File:Square et statue Aristide-Briand, Ouistreham 2.jpg, File:Square et statue Aristide-Briand, Ouistreham.jpg, and File:Statue Aristide-Briand, Ouistreham.jpg: you could have considered pcp.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 13:51, 15 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
So for a few deletions that date back almost a year, most of them on a sculpture where, from memory, I'd made a mistake on the date of the sculptor's death which I explained in the deletion discussion page, and regardless of the dozens of trouble-free uploads made since then, I received your threatening message saying “that despite our reminders to order and our instructions.” (which I never received), threatens to block me.
This message is completely disproportionate and could be considered bullying. It is contrary to the rules of exchanges between participants in the Wikimedia movement and the recent Code of conduct. Too bad you don't recognize your mistake. I'm therefore deleting it from my discussion page. Another unjustified message of this type will force me to report you.
Regards. TCY (talk) 08:58, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@TCY: Our original welcome message in 2007 referred to "our basic licensing policy", which phrase has become in your language "politique en matière de licences basique (Wikimedia Commons n'accepte que des contenus libres)". For File:File:Maison de la culture du Japon à Paris.jpg: you should have considered COM:FRANCE. For File:Joe Biden with Fatlir Sejdiu.jpg, you should have done more research. For File:Joe Biden with Fatlir Sejdiu.jpg, you could have commented at Commons:Categories for discussion/2022/07/Category:Freight stations.
For File:Lincoln Family.in Abraham Lincoln Museum.jpg, you could have followed COM:US and commented at Commons:Deletion requests/File:Lincoln Family.in Abraham Lincoln Museum.jpg. You did none of those things. All of these (and more per your user talk page at the time, I could go on) were justifications for my standardized {{End of copyvios}} final warning, not a threat. I don't threaten to block here, Admins do that here. Also, justifications do not expire. Accusing me of threatening to block you without any justification is a false accusation, for which I could report you. Do you really want to go there?   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:43, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
File:Crumbling Castle.mp3 has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Help needed

[edit]

Hello Jeff, wonder if you could take a look at the extracted images of this file. 3 of them in total of Meta Lever, don't know how I screwed this up. Since they are all made at the same time, can you delete 2 of them? Thank you so much Jeff. Lotje (talk) 05:12, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Lotje: You did not specify the main subject Meta Lever in the photo and the duplicated mentions of her crop. I think this edit fixed it for you, please verify.   — 🇺🇦Jeff G. please ping or talk to me🇺🇦 10:04, 17 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Jeff G.: please explain this image that looks manipulative. Recently, Dennis Schultz (a.k.a. Denniss) nominated for deletion to explain why if this image being digitally altered? Unsyndicated Truth (talk) 12:00, 18 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
